Experiencia negativa: I would give them negative stars if I could!!!!!!!! I am so disappointed with this office. I used to go to this office when Dr. Kleban owned it and it was the best office I had ever gone to. I stopped going because I didn’t need a vet for anything! But last week I took my Frenchie back in because his valley fever came back ( he was only off of his meds for a couple months before he start showing signs). They prescribed meds fluconazole which he was on before but 100 mg twice a day this time they prescribed him 150 mg twice a day and less than a week. My dog is DEAD . I’m not heartbroken that this animal hospital is CLOSING its doors!!!!!!! Please, if you are going there be very careful!!!!!

Experiencia negativa: I brought my dog in on 8/21 when he was in obvious distress. He was prescribed multiple medications, but by Monday, he still wasn’t better. When I called back, I was told to start him on a valley fever protocol, which didn’t seem right to me. Thankfully, I trusted my instincts and took him to an animal hospital on Tuesday, 8/26. There, they discovered he had a wad of foreign material that was beginning to sever his intestines, and they performed emergency surgery. If I had followed their protocol, my dog would have died. I cannot recommend this clinic at all.

Experiencia negativa: Dr John Hynes is the most caring and wonderful vet. We adore this man and he sees all four of our dogs! I am updating this review. This practice has undergone change and has terminated the best vet they had. They are now working with temps. There were fantastic people throughout this office who have suddenly been replaced with rude less qualified individuals. We had been going to RM since Dr. Kleban. It was great. I work with a few animal rescues and within our circles all of us adored Dr Hynes and often took our animals that needed greater care to him. He is just that good. We are now leaving this “practice”. It’s just become a corporate owned business looking to make financial gains by installing a cheaper less experienced and certainly less kind staff. We will find Dr. Hynes. A smart practice has certainly already snatched him up.

Experiencia negativa: Finding a trusted veterinarian at a convenient location is difficult these days, and Dr Hynes was a vet that I trusted and respected very much. He helped my family through a very difficult situation with empathy and professionalism, and that sort of commitment cannot be overstated. I was VERY disappointed to recently find out that he is no longer working at Red Mountain Animal Hospital. I’m hoping he will end up at another clinic nearby, and I will make it a point to take my pets there. ORIGINAL REVIEW: We have been taking our cats here for years and have only had positive experiences with every veterinarian. Most recently, we have been bringing our kitten in for examinations with Dr. Hynes, and his kindness, patience, and professionalism are remarkable.

Experiencia negativa: God bless this vet even though you can’t go in he talks on the phone he’s very supportive did not insist on labs for my 15-year-old cat in order to give him medication/treatment I opted for the labs anyway so we knew what was going on he really listens to your concerns and is very supportive. Came up with a ointment to put in my kitties ear because he hadn’t eaten in five days and then I got him home and he’s eating wet food twice now And that was after he saved my dogs life by providing me with anti-nausea shot and medication when the emergency room would not do it. If you can make an appointment here do that instead of going to the emergency clinic which charges $360 Update today, June 2025 what a nightmare chaos this place is since my Vet is no longer there. Had an appointment last Friday was told the Vet wasn’t going to be there so they rescheduled me for today Monday at 4 o’clock specifically so my granddaughter can be there for her dog. They texted me at 2:30 but since I missed my appointment, I’d have to reschedule again . I called them and ask what they were talking about and they said I had a 230 appointment and I verified with them. It was 4:00 for a specific reason and they had never texted me that there was an issue. The phone tech I talked to admitted she had overheard the conversation at the time because my granddaughter needed to be there because her dog is very nervous around strangers and would need a muscle so she needed to be there to bring him in. It has been a nightmare since they were brought out by a corporation and now it’s all about money.

Experiencia negativa: Very disappointed to hear that my favorite vet John no longer works here. He was the most caring and loving veterinarian I’ve ever had with my animals. John, if you’re out there anywhere You are an amazing vet. Dont ever change. Let me know where you go to next. Apparently, this place can’t appreciate a good vet when they seen one. I would not take my animals here after this. Everyone try to find where John goes next…. You won’t get better care for your animal than John caring for them.

Experiencia negativa: I have been bringing my pets to Red Mountain Animal Hospital since 2001 when it was ran by Dr. Kleban. Due to his passing, others took over. I had tried looking for other vets. When my pets began getting sick in 2020 I decided to try and go back. When I did I was relieved. The care my animals received under Dr. John Hynes was like no other. His patience and compassion does not compare. This is the best person Red Mountain Animal Hospital has ever brought on. I just found out that he is no longer there. I work in a large hospital in Scottsdale for people. I always recommend Dr. Hynes to everyone that asks me about where they can receive great pet care. The people would go and find out just how good he was. They would come back and share what great standard of care their pets received. It is so disheartening and I am disgusted that the management of this place decided to let him go. I am going to look elsewhere and pass the word on that Dr. Hynes is no longer there at Red Mountain Animal Hospital. I can no longer say, this is a great place. Dr Hynes was the BEST THING that had ever happen to this hospital!

Experiencia negativa: I Loved this place up until the recent news of hearing that our favorite vet John who was incredible with our animals, was pushed out and aside from this facility. John was and always will be the heart and soul of what this place was and will be furthermore. The staff here is lacking, and on their phones / distracted from their duties. They are Somewhat friendly but stale and feels fake. Mine and multiple close family’s and friends will no longer continue our presence here. Highly recommend elsewhere to those considering a solid place where their animals are taken care of in a professional and loving manner.

Experiencia negativa: Dr Hynes, it's a very compassionate and understanding veterinarian. I would highly recommend him to anyone who seriously cares for their animals. But now I have found out that Dr Hynes is no longer going to be with Red mountain. That is horrible I've been coming for 5 years and he has been nothing but wonderful for my dogs. Always available that I appreciate it so much. This is highly disappointing and I now have to find another place. What has happened to this place? Very sad.

Experiencia negativa: We are deeply disappointed in our recent experience with Red Mountain Animal Hospital. Over the years, we’ve been loyal clients, entrusting them with the care of four cherished pets—each of whom we chose to have euthanized here due to the compassionate, knowledgeable staff and what had always felt like fair and transparent pricing. Unfortunately, that trust was broken during our most recent visit. We brought in our beloved cat at the end of her life, an already heartbreaking and emotional time. Prior to the appointment, we specifically called to confirm pricing so we wouldn’t be caught off guard in such a vulnerable moment. We were told the cost would be all-inclusive and explained ahead of time. At the appointment, we were informed the total would be in the $300 range, which we agreed to and signed for. However, we were later charged $530—over $200 more than what had been discussed. This additional cost was never explained beforehand, nor were we given the chance to review or question it prior to being charged. We feel we were taken advantage of financially during one of the most emotionally difficult times any pet owner can experience. What was already a painful farewell to a beloved family member was made worse by this lack of transparency and what we perceive as an act of greed. Thank you, Red Mountain Animal Hospital, for tarnishing what should have been a compassionate goodbye with an unnecessary and deeply upsetting financial surprise.

Experiencia fantástica: We had such a great experience with Red Mountain. The vet was able to go through our dogs problems and narrow it down to what exactly was causing our dog Lethargy and back pain. The dog is feeling much better now thanks the Red Mountain. We will definitely be coming back in the future for all our pet's needs. I highly recommend Red Mountain

Experiencia fantástica: I took my dog, Toby to Red Mountain Animal Hospital yesterday for the first time. What an awesome experience! The staff took the time to let Toby get to know them and become comfortable before proceeding with an examination and blood draw. Toby becomes anxious in new environments and with new people. With the gentle approach of the vet tech and Veterinarian Toby was relaxed and happy. Both the vet tech and veterinarian listened carefully and addressed my concerns thoroughly. You can’t go wrong taking your fur baby to Red Mountain Animal Hospital!

Experiencia fantástica: My 13+ year old dog was having a down day for no apparent reason. The vet said senior dogs can do this. I was given the options for more in depth diagnostic testing as well as the option to take him home and monitor him. The staff and veterinarian were very kind and comforting and really showed that they care not only about the pets, but their owners too. I took my boy home and he ate later in the afternoon and then the next morning.

Experiencia fantástica: Update (original review below): I had to be seen again because the issue returned. I swore I wasn’t going to get so twisted with worry about making the appointment this time. I still was, so I went in person to make the appointment and explain who we were to the front desk. Courtney was so sweet, just the nicest and empathetic - a gem. They were booked out a week, not ideal but I’ll take it! They called me shortly after leaving to let me know that they could fit me in through some miracle the same day! (My dog wasn’t quite emergency room condition but waiting a week was going to be hard on her). I saw Dr Hynes this time. I can’t say enough great things about him. I was worried because my dog is reactive to ALL people especially men but that didn’t dissuade him. The measures he took, the time he spent and the abandon of any apprehension to touch my dog made me feel foolish to be so worried in the first place. Dr Hynes went out of his way to help us. I was a wreck again just like the original post but Dr Hynes reassured me that it was “ok”…and it was. And again, just like the first time - less than 24 hours later and my dog seems noticeably less miserable than she was when I brought her in. Still not 100% sure what the cause is but I think Dr Hyde might be the perfect vet to help me figure it out! Original review: I’ve seen the negative reviews on various sites. Here is my experience at Red Mountain. I was so anxious and nervous about taking my German Shepherd in to any vet. My girl came to me through a shelter. I was told that I was basically her last shot because I was the only potential adopter that she hadn’t tried to bite. That being said, I understood why she was surrendered multiple times. I didn’t realize 2 years ago when I took her home, the same day we met, what that meant for us long term as far as seeking medical care for her or any other normal activities people with pets can do. She is the most loving and obedient dog I have ever had…but that extends to me and only me (with very few exceptions). I don’t think that she’s ever been to a vet under anyone’s care . I recently moved here with her from Illinois and we lived our life UNTIL she started losing weight and almost all her hair & scratching uncontrollably until she was raw all over her entire body. Most people with a normal dog take them to a vet. My dog, however, requires a lot of special provisions. Things like an empty waiting area, a muzzle, no probing or handling/touching by strangers….it’s a lot. It’s a lot for anyone to deal with and to ask that of a veterinarian practice caused me a lot of anxiety and stress but she wasn’t getting better - she was rapidly declining. I finally started calling and trying to explain to various animal hospitals that I needed my dog seen but there were certain “provisions” I needed for everyone’s safety. I wanted to be transparent. I was met with mostly rejection….until I called Red Mountain. The receptionist sounded new but she was polite. Even if she wasn’t quite understanding my requirements, she assured me that my needs could be met. I specifically requested Dr Pearson. I thought a female would be received better by my dog. They didn’t disappoint. I was an absolute wreck taking her to the vet. I entered through an empty waiting room as promised. My dog was muzzled (by me) when the sweetest vet tech tried to hold out her hand to be smelled - my dog did what she does sniffed then growled and snapped. I was upset and mortified but not surprised. Nobody batted an eye. Nobody made me feel guilty for having 0 history on her beyond the time I have owned her. Nobody made me feel ashamed that my dog is an embarrassing head case…. Dr. Pearson came in and she was friendly, understanding and as thorough as she could be. She assessed the symptoms and made a diagnosis based on what she saw and prescribed medications as a starting point and they seem to be working.

Experiencia fantástica: I have been taking my Mini Pom to Red Mountain Animal Hospital for 5-6 years and it has always been a positive experience. Dr. Hynes is the greatest. Very compassionate , gentle and loving with my fur baby. He has never hesitated to meet with me and my girl when I have concerns. He has gotten us through some challenging medical issues and the results have been awesome. I highly recommend RMAH.

The staff were great as well and the tech handled the dogs beautifully as well. He also directed us to some less expensive alternatives which I really appreciate. I’m so glad I found this clinic! Experiencia fantástica: We've had a great experience at red mountain all around! Scheduling has been a breeze and the availability is usually same day. Office staff is wonderful, every tech we have worked with has been so sweet to our puppy and made each visit that much easier. Dr. Liz is exactly what you look for in a vet, so intelligent but down to earth and friendly. She always takes the time with us to answer all of our questions and makes sure we are comfortable with the approach. Would absolutely recommend this office to anyone!

Experiencia positiva: The staff is always wonderful. Attentive and gentle with my old dog but $2100.00 plus to clean his teeth is out in orbit someplace. I don't pay that much to clean mine. Granted you want to knock him out for two estimated hours, but you want to charge more than a month-and-a -half of my SS income. That would pay my utilities for 5 months. I love my dog, but both of us would probably not survive without AC. I hope the bones I bought him work.

Experiencia negativa: I’m surprised at the number of good reviews. We have had two pretty bad experiences where I am writing the vets off as quacks and taking advantage of jacking up prices. 1. My cat had inflamed gums so I took her in since “Dentristry” is a clear service on their website. There was a dark mark on a back molar the vet said “showed signs of being a dead tooth” and recommended we pull the molar and 2 teeth with the inflamed gums. I wanted a second opinion before pulling the molar so took my cat to a real dental specialist that knew what they were doing. The culprit of the dark mark? A bit of tartar that easily came off with a cleaning. So he wanted to pull a completely healthy tooth and confidently gave us this recommendation to move forward with. This vet does NOT know dentistry and is a quack. 2. Second issue - I planned not to return for anything besides a vaccine, but my cat had a few bad episodes of vomiting a few days in a row a year and a half later. I took her in since we’re moving in a couple weeks and I don’t plan to establish care at a new vet. Out of concern for a possible hairball in her stomach she’s not able to pass, I wanted to get an x ray a few days after her last episode (after giving her cat lax to help pass it) just to confirm there wasn’t anything visibly showing or obstructing her stomach/intestines. Not only was the X-ray $300, they also told me they “require” an additional $150 fee to read the X-ray by a specialist. I’ve NEVER had a certified vet be incapable of deciphering a simple X-ray. Is there a lump of mass in her stomach or sign of obstruction or not? This isn’t a complicated x-ray like a bone break. If you can’t decipher this without unnecessarily jacking up the price, you’re either a quack that doesn’t know what they’re doing or simply taking advantage of your patients’ wallets. Anyways, I called Adobe vet, got right in as a new patient, and even with paying the $63 new patient fee, walked out with a grand total of $183 bill. And - shocker - the vet I saw was capable of reading an x ray. All of 30 seconds worth of analysis to confirm nothing was in her stomach and no signs of obstruction. Not to mention the new patient exam was actually a thorough exam, not just listening to a heart beat and calling it a day without bothering to look in the ears or anything. I left with peace of mind and the vomiting has totally stopped, confirming she did pass whatever was causing her vomiting (normally after only 1-2 vomiting episodes it comes up, which is why I was concerned to begin with since it was a handful of times.) Do not recommend if you need legitimate care/advice beyond basic vaccinations.

Experiencia negativa: Be aware that if you don't like how they treat your fur baby and over charge you that they will let your business go without an apology or amends or trying to make the situation right. I just had her in 3 weeks ago for a full physical and brought her in 6-14 for an ear infection. They wanted to charge for a full physical and an additional 45.00 to run a swab under the scope to diagnosis her ear infection instead of just looking in her ear and prescribing a wide range of medication to treat her ear infection. To be honest, they did me a favor with providing my girls past care with their facility. This place has gone downhill. Hopefully others will receive better care for their loved ones without the nickel and dime for their services. I attached their letter below that I received from them.

Experiencia fantástica: My dog had been having bad allergies for days & they flared much worse over the weekend. When I called first thing Monday morning I was able to get him in within a couple of house—I was very pleased. The vet tech was wonderful & listened. She even shared ways to help us save money on prescriptions & grooming. The vet, Doc Hynes, was caring, knowledgeable, & took the time to talk to us about various treatments for our dog. What really impressed me was when we told him we were taking our dog on a 3-week camper trip to Montana, he gave us an additional “just in case” dose of prednisone should we need it. Top-notch care!

Experiencia fantástica: I have the most excellent experience at this clinic. All the Veterinary staff was above and beyond with their service. My dog was there for ear infection. Vet. John Hynes showed me how to do the cleaning and how to put the ear drops in my babie ears. He listened my needs, he prescribed her the ear drops. I always have this issue with my cocker spaniel. When she is drinking water I guess her ears get water into her ears. I might have to cut the length of her hair shorter. Thank you to all staff. Amazing Team

Experiencia fantástica: We've been going to this vet hospital for over 25 years! Started going when Dr Mike was there and Dr Pearson. But the atmosphere and care has never wavered over the years! Everyone there are very courteous and caring! Got to meet Dr Hynes this past visit as well as Kara! Both took very good care of our kitty Mimi! Quickly diagnosed the issue and gave her the medical attention she needed along with a few treats! Thanks for another great experience!

Experiencia fantástica: They are always the best! Dr Hynes is always amazing with my dogs. My female golden doodle has chronic ear problems. He has always balanced how to treat her and being affordable. For instance we tried some cheaper solutions to treat a hematoma in her ear before going with the more expensive draining. It worked. He has also always taken the time to demonstrate/teach me proper ways to care for her at home with the hope that he doesn’t have to see her back for her ears! They whole office is full of animal lovers. The front desk is very accommodating and helpful and Dr Hynes is the best.

Experiencia fantástica: We’ve been bringing our dogs here for over 10 years. Front staff is always cheerful and has great customer service. And the vet’s have all been very good and listen to concerns and always seems very knowledgeable. *update* 10/30/2020 I was concerned about my dogs bite/sting and they were able to squeeze him in at the end of the day. The service is always stellar. The doctor reached out to me (due to COVID, I wasn’t able to go in with him) with his thoughts and recommendations. We were asked to follow up after 3-4 days on the medication. Super please with the vet, the service and the staff.

Experiencia fantástica: Took our 10 year old German shepherd sheltie mix here for a checkup, teeth cleaning estimate, and growth removal estimate. My husband and I were blown away by Dr. Hynes expertise and care. Seriously, I’ve never had a more positive vet experience. Dr. Hynes made us feel very comfortable and eliminated our worries when it came to our dogs health. He was so knowledgeable and wanted to make a point to teach us too. I was also very impressed by how they broke down all costs. Very honest about what our dog needed and what he didn’t need. We scheduled a teeth cleaning and growth removal surgery for next month and the estimate was reasonable and lower than we thought. I cannot thank the folks here enough, I highly recommend this vet if you live in the Mesa area.

Experiencia positiva: For a yearly checkup, Red Mountain does an adequate job. The staff is friendly and competent. Getting in quickly for an injury to my dog was not possible. Booking and having them keep a dental cleaning appointment is very difficult and frustrating. Red Mountain ended up referring me to another clinic, which booked an evaluation, then a cleaning with no difficulties. Before this year, I would have had no trouble recommending Red Mountain. Maybe this has just been a streak of bad luck.

Experiencia negativa: Dishonest business. I set up an appointment and the only availability was a month out. I had to cancel it 3 weeks prior because I got our pet in at more reputable clinic. They still charged me $75 for making the appointment even though I canceled it with more than enough notice. Stay away from this place.

Experiencia fantástica: This visit was for an annual check up for my 13 year old Chihuahua mix and the first one after she had a knee ligament surgicall repaired. I actually arrived early and was able to see the doc a little early too. It was a pretty basic visit and all the team there does a very good job and are caring with my pets. Even though I moved from around them, I drive from Scottsdale because I know things will be done right.

Experiencia positiva: I have mixed feelings about this place. The vets are very attentive but twice my pet was given medicines without a full explanation about how to administer. The first time I had to wait 2 hours to give food after meds and was not told. My pet kept throwing up violently. The second time the meds had to be refrigerated. Again, there was no mention of this either verbally, on the bottle, or on the paperwork. I find this to be irresponsible. Be sure to ask for all the details if you choose this establishment for your pet.

Experiencia fantástica: I love Red Moutain. My dog Andy is, let's say on the "difficult" side when it comes to behaving during nail trims and vet exams . He also does not like taking certain medications( especially eye drops!)... The staff there is very helpful providing me with tips to make it easier for me to administer his meds. Experiencia fantástica: I've been taking my dogs here for over 10 years because Dr. Pearson understands that some people can barely afford the visit let alone expensive treatments or medications for a dog with allergy issues that is gonna require medication to treat it for the rest if her life. Unfortunatly the other vets I have seen there don't share the same compassion. Update: Dr. Pearson has since retired but I have found a vet there that does have that same level of compassion for both people and pets and I am so glad he understood that better or newer treatment options aren't going to help a pet when an owner can't afford them. Instead of leaving my pet miserable because of untreated severe allergies when I couldn't afford the testing and treatments, he was willing to go back to treating my dog with medication Dr Pearson prescribed that worked really well for her and was also affordable. This is Dr. John Hynes who I am very grateful to have found when the other vet retired. I make sure to ask for him every time I come so if your looking for a Vet who understands the needs of both people and pets.....make sure you ask for him too when making an appt but call ahead cause it takes a day or two to get in with him sometimes but it is worth the wait.

Experiencia fantástica: I highly recommend this animal hospital. The staff, techs, and Dr's are not only professional but truly care for pets, it is a care that you can actually feel. I left my vet after 20yrs and was in search of a new vet. I made an appointment and was able to sit and talk to Dr Hynes before bringing my dogs. This is the only place that actually let me, meet, talk with etc before ever meeting my dogs. I need to make sure that not only the Dr. was a good fit with his medical beliefs but that the staff was a good fit. I can honestly say my pets along with myself are extremely happy. In fact one of my dogs had an emergency unfortunately, but they were able to get him in, the staff and Dr were so loving, understanding, and caring. They went above and beyond to take care of my best friend. I highly recommend them!

Experiencia fantástica: I wasn't satisfied with my current vet, so when my cat started acting lethargic, I did a search for a new vet, and decided on Red Mountain Animal Hospital in part because of all the positive reviews on Google. My visit with Gabriel was great! The tech was very attentive and asked comprehensive questions about him. Dr. Luedtke addressed my worries about my kitty's condition, and gave me a thorough rundown of options to address it. She gave me a smile when she covered his ears before saying one option was "the cone." I felt confident about being able to select what worked best for the budget I have available, and I still feel confident about being able to explore the additional options if necessary. Going over the treatment plan with the tech in the exam room was a lot less stressful than managing a kitty in a carrier out at the front desk so I really appreciated that too. I feel very good about the care that my cat got at Red Mountain Animal Hospital, and the things that made me unsatisfied with my previous vet were addressed or not an issue at all with the Red Mountain team. Thank you so much, you're my vet team now!

Experiencia negativa: I was not impressed with the office staff, they were not friendly and didn't even smile when I arrived with my dog. The vet tech didn't even acknowledge my dog- just took my dog from me and wasn't at all warm or kind. I had to prepay for an exam, - not sure what this vet considers an exam but they were not thorough at all (didn't even look in my dog's ears. Overall the customer service was poor. I don't feel the vet gave me options for my dog's care. Got the impression he didn't know too much about my dog's needs, hs should have offered a referral.

Experiencia fantástica: My young cat had not used his litter box in over two days. They were able to get him in the next day and found crystals in his urinary track and treated him quickly. Price was extremely reasonable, especially compared to any urgency centers.
