Experiencia fantástica: When keeping exotics it is so rare and so important to have a vet you can trust nearby. I have been fortunate enough to live near this office for the decade+ that I have been keeping my collection. Anytime I have an issue with my animals, I trust the team here to take the best care of them. I’ve been so pleased with the care my current rescues have gotten and they’ve been given a second chance at life. But, I have also seen the other side of things when my pets can’t be helped anymore, and I’ve had to say goodbye to them here. Both times, I received a footprint with their name, and I left feeling like I did the right thing for them. It’s easy to be grateful for your vet and compliment them when your pet gets better after their visit, but I am grateful even for the appointments my pets didn’t come home from. This team is amazing.

Experiencia fantástica: I drove clear across from the west side of town to this location, based on a recommendation from a technician from the Veterinary emergency group. I am at the Arizona exotic animal Hospital in Mesa for veterinary services for my baby girl. I have a 15 year-old red eared slider that is egg bound. I will say that I was greeted immediately, Skynyrd, my red eared slider, was taken back to a treatment area immediately. All of the staff are amazing and the doctor is extremely friendly, knowledgeable and understanding. they offer several different payment options to try to help out as well. My experience, so far, has been stellar. Skynyrd is receiving treatment and I will go back to grab her in a few hours and then go home. Here’s to praying she will be OK thank you to the amazing staff.

Experiencia negativa: This place is ruthless. We took our hamster here because she looked unwell and had what looked like vomit on her. The vet told us that it was most likely saliva because she had some food stuck and had been choking. Once he removed that piece of food she was moving around like her old self and he said he could not see anything else wrong with her but wanted to take her to another room so that a colleague could take a look. He said they may want to trim her teeth and gave an estimate of costs $200 ish on the low end $450 ish on the high end. I think because we were saying ok they thought great this family cares for the pet let’s add on whatever we want here. So he comes back and says they do want to trim her teeth and test for parasites in her stool. After this is done we get told they had to give her some anesthesia and medication and she will now need a food that they provide and medication to be administered at home. It all seemed very excessive seeing as she was fine after he removed that piece of food. We paid the almost $500 bill and were told they would like to see her again to check up in a few days and scheduled her for December 27th. I called on December 26th to cancel and was told that it was not a full 24hrs until our appointment, it was 22 hrs so they would be charging us a $50 fee for cancelling. Yesterday was Christmas Day, I explained that I didn’t call yesterday as it was Christmas and the receptionist told me that the phones are manned so I should of called. This place sucks. They were scammy from the get go and to charge someone $50 when they gave 22hrs notice instead of 24 at Christmas is just vile.
Experiencia fantástica: I’ve taken my leopard gecko to this clinic twice in the past month for two completely unrelated issues, and both times I left feeling genuinely cared for. The vets here are incredibly thorough. They didn’t just try to treat current symptoms my little buddy was having, but instead took the time to work with me and identify possible root causes. I also want to mention, I’ve had this guy for six years, and they still managed to teach me things I never knew I was doing wrong, things no previous vet had ever mentioned. After my most recent visit, my little guy was pretty stressed and acting strangely. I ended up calling the clinic literally right before closing, panicked and sobbing. The receptionist who helped me over the phone was amazing. She took her time addressing every concern I had, and if she wasn’t 100% sure about something, she put me on a quick hold to confirm with a vet and then came right back. She did this multiple times and still sounded just as kind and patient as when the call started. This genuinely meant so much to me! This clinic has gone above and beyond for my gecko and for me. I’m so grateful for the level of compassion, patience, knowledge, and thorough care they provide. I won’t be taking him anywhere else.
Experiencia negativa: Sorry but this one star is NOT for the doctors and other medical professionals, they are wonderful ! This one start goes to management and ESPECIALLY FRONT OFFICE. They are not helpful, they are understanding your personal and individual circumstances, the only thing I hear from them is MONEY, late fees- repeated multiple times and not even looking into your eyes. I want to say avoid this place in Mesa but I also want you to take care of your pet as the medical professional work g there is fantastic, however the management and the front office also wants money not to take care of your family pet. By the way it is overpriced too. Good luck!

I have interacted with many different vets throughout my time as a pet parent to several animals, but few compare to the level of care, thoughtfulness, and professionalism that I experienced with Dr. Banta-Long.
Experiencia fantástica: The staff at AZ Exotic Animal Hospital (specifically the Mesa location) has been incredible with our sweet bunnies and in supporting their humans. We also appreciate and thank all of the staff members and thank our vet as well (I think it is Dr. Kragness) who even though we only see once a year, answers our panicked emails with bunny video concerns. They all show genuine love and care for all the exotic pets who are not the "easy" cat/dog patients. The staff here understand that exotics have different needs and temperaments. Our bunnies are safe and loved and treated with respect and empathy. In a previous vets experience (nearly 8 years ago before I started coming here) I was told that my bunny at the time was a "bad bunny" because he resisted the vet trancing him. When I transferred here, he didn't have that issues because the vets and staff knew how to actually care and handle bunnies. Obviously it was no hesitation in coming here for Babka and Caramel Garlic. They don't get stressed in the office and are given so much love and care. We all look forward to coming even if just for a nail trim!

Experiencia negativa: We took our tortoise here and were disappointed. The vet tech was very unfriendly and judgy when we told her we would seek a second opinion. The vet looked at our tortoise for maybe 1 minute. They wanted to charge almost $600. Do yourself a favor and go to the Avion & exotic animal clinic in Mesa instead. The vet there took 45 mins to actually examine and clean our tortoise wounds and answer questions. The total there was $135. I think this place can take care of your pet if you really need them to but we had a much better experience at our second opinion.
Experiencia fantástica: I cannot say enough wonderful things about Dr. Lewis. She has taken care of both my rabbits with incredible skill and kindness. She’s very knowledgeable and always makes sure I understand all of my options. Dr. Lewis patiently answers any question, even if it’s the fourth time I’ve asked. When my rabbit Jonas passed last year (from natural causes), she and her team were amazing—professional, compassionate, and so supportive. Dr. Lewis is not only an exceptional veterinarian, she’s also just an incredible human. She gives me straightforward answers, never sugarcoats, and I’ve always felt that she genuinely cares rather than trying to upsell or overcharge. I trust her completely with my rabbits’ care and feel so grateful to have found her.
Experiencia negativa: DO NOT GO HERE! All they do is check vitals and then drill you with 20 questions where they can document your ability to care for your pet. They did nothing to actually help my sweet pet with her problem. In fact, after securing a payment guarantee, they proceeded to incrementally upsell prescription products and services. They pushed for spaying and vaccinating my Flemish Giant rabbit. I couldn’t afford the egregious charge of $300+ for an X-ray of my bunny’s dislocated toe. I got out of there with $260 spent, but no help for our poor sweet bunny rabbit. The owners of this company should be ashamed of themselves. They are so woke, they wanted to know my preferred pronouns and all my personal information while they required the financial guarantee. Companies managed like this should have to adjust to reality if they want to keep our business. I made a mistake by placing my trust here, and I caution everyone else.

Experiencia fantástica: We came in 15 minutes before they were closing with our cockatiel who was having trouble passing an egg; they took care of her immediately and kept us updated throughout every step of the operation. Then upon checkout the entire staff answered all our questions and even gave us a towel to use as a little nest, so she could be comfy on the ride home. Y'all are amazing. The doctor and both vet techs at the front desk were absolutely amazing. Thank you again ladies. The sense of urgency and empathy from ALL of the staff.

Experiencia fantástica: Staff took great care of Kookie and warmly welcomed Olive Bean to the pack. They gave excellent advice for their diets and bonding sessions. Both ladies who took care of us noted down all of Olive's details from being in the shelter and complimented Kookie, even if he is still a bit chunky from spending time with the grandparents. They helped me understand what was wrong with my bearded dragon and they kindly walked me through the process of putting her to sleep. The vet took extra care in reassuring me it wasn’t my fault, and the path I chose was the right one for her. I felt incredibly safe at this place and treated with such kindness. Experiencia fantástica: Arizona Exotic Animal Hospital is the only place I will take my exotic animals. The staff are knowledgeable, friendly, and take good care of my pets. The doctors are thorough in their examinations and treatment. I've never felt like they pushed expensive tests on me just to make money. The scheduling is decent, no super long waits, and if it's really an emergency they get you in pretty quickly. I've brought pet rats and snakes here and had a good experience every time. Getting me in fairly quickly and being thorough with examination of my pet.

They got me in same day, and I didn't wait at all. The prices were very reasonable, and I am so happy I chose AZ Exotic Animal hospital. Experiencia fantástica: Provided emergencies services when they were needed. Stayed late to treat our parrot, who is already recovering well. Really appreciate the expertise shown too; from the questions we were asked, it's clear that staff is current and knowledgeable in avian care.
Experiencia negativa: I visited this vet for my sick serama rooster, the veterinarian was very rude. She completely ignored my reasoning for the visit. She was infactuated with the fact that my birds feet looked like he stood on "hard ground" which is silly considering chickens live on the ground. She never addressed the emergency with his health. I spent $1100 for the visit and I ended up having to resolve his health emergencies through a different veterinarian. I would not trust them with my animals again.

Being compassionate means a lot no matter how big or little the family member is and it showed this morning with Jerry and I. Thank you as it meant a lot to me that Jerry passed away peacefully.

Experiencia fantástica: I few weeks ago a pet parakeet showed up at my back porch. He was heat exhausted. I brought him in and got him water and some food. 6hrs later he was not doing good. I rushed him here in crisis. Unfortunately, it was to late. The fine staff did everything they could do to revive the poor bird. He had passed in the car ride over. The vet was very sympathetic and kind. He gave some good insight that the parakeet was probably on the loose for a week and a 1/2 to 2 weeks. These birds can't survive on the loose here in Mesa. Please make sure your birds don't get out in the summer. Thank you AZ Exotic Animal Hospital for your valiant effort. RIP Jewel.

The Dr came in said hi and introduced himself and then he took great care with my rabbits and checking them over before giving them the ok to vaccinate. The tech was lovely as well and was able to vax both rabbits in their kennels! Dr fitsimmons was wonderful. Thanks for caring for my boys Not having me sit in a waiting area to move again. Check in and straight to our own room. The Dr comes in and introduced and verified what the appt was for. He also made sure to ask if I had questions and what to look out for
Experiencia fantástica: My sugar glider had a freak accident and I took her here the next morning — the staff was super understanding and helpful in my baby’s treatment, and gave thorough instructions and care. After nearly a month of healing my girl is doing so much better and is reunited with her siblings and thriving. I’m so grateful!

They never rushed us to make a decision and were genuinely empathic, especially with my 7 yo daughter. Dr Zion and Amala were amazing! Experiencia negativa: My poor piggie recently passed away 1 day after his surgery. ONE DAY. I don’t even care about the money, the $2k+ we spent? Oh yea it’s fine and so is my poor baby. Recently brought him in because I was suspecting he had a stone. In fact he did, they gave us meds and a few days later we brought him for his surgery. The surgery was really fast maybe around 30minutes? And when we brought him home he wouldn’t eat or drink and kept wheezing. We wanted to bring him back but by that time the vet was closed. Every hour ir so we got him out to give him food and water since he wouldn’t do it on his own. The next day we did the same. And at approximately 11pm on June 2nd my piggie passed. Me and my mom were going to give him water and food and we saw him dead in his bed. And it wasn’t even a WEEK after it was a day. A DAY… and no the surgery wasn’t risky, they said it’s an easy surgery. And what’s weird is that he was so happy before and wasn’t like this. But after he was horrible he wouldn’t move and kept twitching. Today me and my mom saw that another person had the same issue with this clinic with their Guinea pig. Don’t trust them they’re money hungry and also if you’re late you have to pay a fee even 1 minute late…? The workers where nice but I don’t think they’re good at their job. They also like to give people the highest price and adds extra stuff so they get more money

I've been there twice and both times has been a good experience. All the staff was great! Everyone I came in contact with was helpful and friendly. Experiencia negativa: I honestly dont know if I got the correct service and or advice. I have Henrietta a 2 year old hen with no medical issues until 05/31/25 I found her limp in the coop. I presumed a strained or dislocated leg but they had 2 nurses come in and do a 5-7 min exam and told me without a doubt my hens right leg was broken higher up by the thigh and knee area. I did not get a x-ray because of the options plan explanation and costs. Im confused without explanation from the Vet Doctor on staff just 2 nurses 1 in pink and one in a blue scrubs. I dont believe either we're the veterinarian doctor so im confused if I got the 100$ exam I paid for. I left against medical advice because all options were to expensive I cannot begin to fathom when health care will actually be affordable. It's a chicken without x rays , pain meds , surgery. Why couldn't we like in the old days just try something even a splint without x rays . Doesn't need to be A-Class medical aid. Honestly they make u subconsciously feel bad that u can afford a procedure and give u a million options on ways to pay them to (help or kill ) your animal which is some how cheaper by a few hundred dollars . Insane. I'm sorry they might be able to help other people with medical care but it mostly seems priced to keep the bills and staff paid . Which I dont mind , they went to school and work hard for us, but this is ridiculous. My chickens exam cost more than my human exam without health insurance . Im going to have to cull my hen because lack of help or options to D.I.Y at home or half help from professionals and home care. This world will sadly stop seeking health care and you are just losing customers . I will not recommend anyone to take their chicken here. It's a waste of time and money. They put my other hen down (penny 05/22/24) when I couldn't get her fixed right and the medical bills were 1000$ American dollars... i was hoping coming in and spending money would eventually bring down costs so people are more able to seek care. But quite the opposite. Be prepared with your pockets full of money. I had money at one point in time and spent every penny I could on my anmials. But now when times are tough, im shunned and made felt I dont know what im doing care wise for my animals from the( pink staff lady) I mentioned above. The (blue staff girl) just ran paper work and weighed my Henrietta. Im not mad at the staff per say . More upset at the whole care system setup. Im sure dogs and cats are more profitable or important in some eyes but coming to and exotics vet I'd think there would be some wiggle room . Again this isn't out of emotion this was purely out of experience that I had Today. I hope I didn't get a false exam by students and not a real veterinarian doctor. 100$ is a lot of money to some people.
Experiencia negativa: They looked at my parrot and charged me $150 for 5 minutes without saying anything. My parrot had blood spots on his forehead - for which the "vet doctor" did not say anything. As it turned out in the evening - I realized that it was blood, as from the nose before death went liquid of the same color and were convulsions. The so-called doctor recommended to take tests for 700$ but was told that he could leave at any time. P.S - the recommendations given by the doctor are the same as those advised by GPT.

There was minimal wait, and she answered all my questions with patience and detail. They provided treatment options but were not pushy. I was just amazed at how smoothly everything went.

It was our rabbit's first time being to the vet for a wellness check and we will definitely return to continue care here. Knowledgeable staff with patience - for both animals and owners! Experiencia negativa: My boyfriend and I came in about a month and a half ago with our bearded dragon. The vet did not seem to know what she was doing. Our beardie has had what is very likely an abscess on her foot and we took her in immediately. The vet did not tell us what it was other than a "scratch". A black bulb on a bearded dragons foot wouldn't be a scratch. The top scab then came off as we were cleaning it one night and after calling, all of a sudden they said it's "likely an abscess". We also were not given a full round of antibiotics (only 4 days worth, we needed 7). We were charged the full amount for their error. We took her to her check up, with slight improvement. They then gave us another antibiotic for 14 days. She has gone downhill again and we're now taking her to a different vet. After following this vet's instructions to the T, her foot has become infected and even more swollen. We will likely have to do surgery now to remove the abscess and do harsher medication because of the lack of knowledge. One google search would show that a bearded dragon abscess needs to either be drained and flushed or surgically removed. Part of us wants to request a refund for our first visit as it was not worth $200+ to be told something completely wrong. It felt like these guys wanted my girl to get worse just for more money. I just want her to be okay.
Experiencia fantástica: I've been taking my pets here for years. The doctors are compassionate about the animals they see. Whenever I take my pets here I get supplemental information that really helps me take the best care of my pets. I've taken my bearded dragon, rats (when I had them) and recently my parrot. Every animal is treated with respect and handled carefully. They really love to see every pet that comes through the door. *Edit* I want to add that I recently boarded my parrot and he came back more spoiled than when I dropped him off. The staff must have just showered him with attention because he's been a real brat since getting him home. I love you guys!

Experiencia negativa: I had my iguana checked in to see if there’s any medication that can be provided to help her recover because she was struggling to drink water. They basically gave me a 30 second google search explanation of what I already knew after I dropped 200 dollars. They wanted an extra 400 to find the actual issue outside of their very generic explanation of what’s happening. This took nearly 2 hours to come up with this very simple explanation regarding the health of my animal. The time before this, they had a study group of interns with my vet reviewing my injured bearded dragon, and they wanted to euthanize my bearded dragon. I declined, and he made a full recovery a month later. Be advised, if you need to use them as a last resort, do your research before hand. Otherwise they’re going to rob you. They won’t do anything to treat your animal without you signing on that you’re going to pay the full amount anyways including any collection efforts or attorney fees, so don’t expect to be able to get that money back anytime soon, as you should expect to be chased down for it if you feel like you didn’t receive the services you asked for. From my experience, these veterinarians do not know what they’re doing. They obviously have no passion for their work. Please don’t make the mistake I made. I should’ve stuck with my other vet.

Experiencia negativa: Staff was great and caring...to a point. Sent us home with 7 antibiotic shots for our sick fish. We're first timers at this and accidentally blew 2 of them. We live 2 hours away in Prescott and asked if they could arrange for our local vet to give us replacements. They would not. Asked if we could pick up replacements in their office since I happen to be in the valley. They would not. They said they'd only give us replacements if we bring the fish back in...$170 for an appointment. Come on!!! Carting the fish back and forth 4 hours round trip from Prescott is not easy. We just need to replace two spent antibiotic shots so we can finish the course.

There may have been a miscommunication in trying to help you get replacements for your medications. During your exam it was recommended to bring your pet back in for a recheck in 14-21 days to assess your pets' progress and ensure that the medications were working. You had asked if we could call them into a pharmacy located by you in Prescott, unfortunately general pharmacies do not carry the injections that we prescribed to your fish. It was offered to complete your recheck exam sooner and pick up additional medication to save you from making additional trips to the hospital, we left you a voicemail with this information and did not hear back. We will continue to work with our staff to communicate effectively to avoid any misunderstandings in the future. Experiencia positiva: I made an appointment with AZ Exotics on a Sunday evening after realizing my hamster had wet tail. Not having experience with it, I didn't recognize the symptoms immediately, so I rushed to find anything that was open in hopes it wasn't too late. Petsmart referred me here, and overall I'm very grateful for the care we received. They were able to squeeze us in, saying we could avoid the $100 after-hours fee if we could make it before 5pm, which we barely did! It still cost $234 and we spent 2 hours there, but the good news is, our hamster is doing great now. All we needed was the $14 antibiotics, so I was a little frustrated at having so many expensive things pushed at us, and I felt like such a monster declining their recommendations...but $400 for treatment for our hamster just wasn't feasible. :/ They repeatedly told me she'd need an injection of water under the skin because she was dehydrated, and they said she basically couldn't recover on her own by drinking more water. And yet...after 2 weeks of antibiotics and diligent care from us, she made a full recovery. Neither did we opt to spend more money on a follow-up appointment. This was several months ago, and she's still doing great. My general impression: staff was friendly enough and seemed knowledgeable. I'd recommend the clinic, just be prepared for a hefty bill.

They waited for me to arrive so I could be there with my partner and beardie when it was time to say goodbye which meant the world to us. They even made us two of these clay prints. Hospitals for animals and humans alike can be nightmares. It is especially scary when it is an exotic pet with limited options for them to seek medical care, but this place goes above and beyond. I'd never gone here before in my life, lost my budgie of 8 years in the four hours we were there, and don't regret the visit. From the phone call to them in the beginning they were more than clear with me through each step, and even called back when they had sooner appointment openings. Everything was explained professionally and they were very friendly and thorough with collecting information; which I greatly appreciate. Throughout the appointment we were able to review the payments for the steps we were taking. The handling of my pet was super gentle and they took extreme care to monitor their stress levels. I'd never been the one present for the euthanasia of my pets until this, and I felt I was properly informed by staff the entire time. It was a terrifying experience but I don't look back with regret. They didn't sugarcoat things despite me probably being hysterical, and I was given plenty of time with my best friend in her final hours. They gave me feathers, an imprint of her feet into clay, and even went above and beyond to give me ink impressions of my birds feet at my request. Thank you to everyone on staff who helped us.

Experiencia negativa: Made a 11am appointment to have my tortoise examined. Arrived at 10:30 to fill out paperwork. We were walked straight back to the exam room and waited 30 minutes for our appointment. Fine, appointment was on time but after the exam they asked us to fill out our paperwork. The Vet and technician who examined my tortoise were very nice. They then took her back for a a soak and a poop test. A fifteen minute soak took forever. Poop test took forever. They then told us they found parasites and needed to treat our tortoise. We were told they needed to monitor our tortoise for 30 minutes after giving it medicine to make sure they didn't throw it up. We were told 30 minutes to an hour. We returned after an hour and a half because we hadn't heard anything. They still hadn't given our tortoise it's medication. They offered to give it to them now but I had to leave and they'd still have to monitor the tortoise. We left after my tortoise had been there for almost 4 hours with no treatment. Turns out our technician went to lunch which is fine but don't tell people your going to do something within a timeframe and not deliver. Fine place if you enjoy paying for horrible customer service.

Unfortunately, delays can happen, especially in the veterinary field, with surprise visits and sudden animal emergencies. Patients with more life-threatening conditions will be treated first, followed by more stable patients like your tortoise’s case. Please understand that our staff are fully immersed in tending to critical patients and managing the schedule so we can save as many lives as possible. We do our best to treat stable patients as quickly as we can, but we may have to adjust our schedule from time to time to care for more critical patients as they arrive. We will be sure to review this case with our staff to see how we may better communicate and provide better customer service in the future and are utilizing this scenario as what not to do to prevent this situation from happening again.
Experiencia fantástica: Dr. Emily Thulson took care of my daughter's beloved Chinchilla. Her Chinchilla was extremely sick with Pyometra and we were so afraid she was going to not make it. Dr. Thulson is an amazing surgeon and very kind and caring. There really aren't enough words to express how grateful we are for saving the life of my daughters Chinchilla. I was on the way to the hospital for my own surgery a month later. And on the way, got a call to see how my daughter's sweet fur baby was doing. I am so grateful they saved our sweet little girl! My daughter and our Chinchilla's sister are beyond thankful for the surgery and saving her life. The belly fur has grown back from having the surgery. And the weight is coming back to where she is healthy again, like before the Pyometra. Thank you!

Experiencia positiva: I am providing a four-star rating based on my understanding of the challenges that can arise in a busy workplace environment. I acknowledge that this facility manages a variety of appointments and emergencies. While the doctor provided excellent care, I did notice that the initial technician who assisted us lacked friendliness. However, the overall staff demeanor improved during our visit. Despite having a scheduled appointment, we experienced a wait time of approximately six hours, during which other appointments were seen. I was disappointed to learn that a fee would be charged for dropping off my pet for an estimate without requiring a deposit. I also found the estimated treatment plan completion time to be inaccurate, which I realize can be common in this field. Communication regarding any delays due to emergencies, staffing shortages, or multiple treatments would have been appreciated. In my experience at another clinic, we typically request a 75% deposit for drop-off appointments. I was surprised that this option was not offered at this mixed-practice facility. Additionally, I felt that my status as an employee of another clinic may have led to me receiving less attention. While the clinic was clean, the waiting room was uncomfortably warm. Communication and transparency regarding wait times and procedures could be improved to enhance the overall customer experience. The communication breakdown occurred not only in the medical aspect but also in the financial discussions. I spoke with the front desk about financing options through Care Credit, and we agreed on a 48-month payment plan of $1000 for our $800 bill. However, upon checking out, I noticed that they had set up a 6-month deferred interest plan instead. When I inquired about this discrepancy, I was informed that it was the only financing option available. I am confused as to why the front desk initially agreed with me on the 48-month plan, as that was the basis for my decision to pay $1000 instead of $800. All I got from the front desk was a call care credit to discuss it. Overall the care was okay, I don't have any complaints other than the communication was terrible during the time of the appointment and If they are expecting an appointment to last 6 hours they should offer drop off with estimate deposits instead of fee's.
Experiencia fantástica: Dylan my African Grey Parrot was eggbound. Dr. Lamb saved her life. She had to be anesthetized for the egg to be helped to pass. I live in Prescott and the local vet would not accept Dylan, they referred me to AZ Exotic. Dylan gives 4 claws up, too! Thank you for saving my 23 year old pet parrot! Up date: I drive over 2 hours to bring my African Grey parrot to Dr. Lamb. It is worth the drive and the cost. Explanation of treatment and results by Dr Lamb is exceptional, my human practitioners could get some tips from her.

Front desk people put an appointment in to wait two weeks to get his eye removed when it was supposed to be 2 days, after the surgery i took him home he only lasted a day then died in my arms. We rushed over to the vet and still made us pay for everything. He had at least 5 years left. I understand it was a misunderstanding but that doesn’t matter when a life is on the line. Will never come here again.

They answered all my questions and made sure I had information on how to make my habitat better for my baby and even answered questions about my other baby at home. They made sure I knew what I was doing for recovery before going home. Being very upfront and honest and making me and my baby comfortable at our appointment.
Experiencia negativa: I had $50 credit that I kept on their books so that when I needed to schedule an appointment I knew that the deposit would be taken care of already. I called around 9:00 am and was lucky to to schedule an appointment for 3:00 the same day. Ironically moments after the call ended my ferret awoke and cleared his bowels (my concern was a possible blockage) and he seemed okay so I called to cancel about 40 minutes after my initial call which they asked the reason why and I explained. I was then advised I was forfeited my deposit due to not canceling within 24 hours even though I did not have any opportunity to do so. I was also advised that my request to not have the money forfeited would be messaged to the manager and which I might or might not be given a call back. I wasn't hostile I wasn't irate. I was dumbfounded and silent then pleaded my case. I did my best and my due diligence to communicate and not waste anyone's time. I have lost 1 ferret in the last year due to sepsis while recovering from a blockage removal surgery. I had to have my cat hospitalized and then ultimately euthanized due to congestive heart failure, a few months ago I had another ferret euthanized after his insulinoma progressed in a matter of only months and a couple of weeks ago my cat was diagnosed with kidney disease. I'm not irresponsible and don't understand why or where their stipulation is that if you do get an appointment in under 24 hours it'll cost whether you are seen or not. Now I'm bummed as I really did respect and appreciate my ferrets veterinarian but to not even receive a call back and eff off we're keeping the deposit anyway is highly unprofessional and saddens me deeply. My animal family members are my life and finding another doctor for my last remaining baby horrifies me knowing the vast amount of health issues they encounter and now being extremely hesitant to reach out if and when he does need care is a whole other trauma. It is only $50 dollars but the numerous thousands of dollars in the past year spent is tough to swallow.

My guinea pig needed a CT Scan due to a bladder stone and I was referred to the Mesa location. I drove down from Tucson with my Guinea pig. It was our first time here… the staff was very friendly and welcoming. The doctor was friendly and knowledgeable. She explained things to me with patience and took her time to listen and answer all my questions. The doctor even called me after the procedure was done to let me know my little boy was doing well. When the results came in, I received a friendly call from the doctor explaining the results in depth. She was very helpful throughout the entire process. My overall experience was very positive, thank you!

Experiencia negativa: I brought my hedgehog to see Dr. Taylor Lewis numerous times because my hedgehog was having extremely odd symptoms. I brought her here three times about the same symptoms and Dr. Taylor Lewis would write it off as nothing serious and sent me on my way with doing almost nothing and prescribing one pathetic medication that didn’t do a thing for my hedgehog’s symptoms. I would send emails asking about food diet recommendations and other questions since that’s what the vet herself recommended for my hedgehog’s symptoms and I never got any help and never saw any improvements with my hedgehog. I finally got fed up with this vet shrugging it off and went to another vet who found multiple tumors and all of her internal organs were enlarged. We had no choice but to put her down so she wouldn’t suffer more than she already was. I don’t know if anything would have changed if Dr. Taylor Lewis had found the tumors early on or if my hedgehog would still be gone today, but the fact that she managed to miss it through multiple examinations when the other vet could palpate and feel the tumor because it was so large makes me question Dr. Taylor Lewis’ abilities and if she even cares about animals at all. I would not recommend bringing your pet to this place if they’re showing odd symptoms or even for a regular checkup because your pet could have cancer and you may lose your pet because this vet won’t care to find out what’s wrong and will shrug off the symptoms that may start showing up.
Experiencia fantástica: Arizona Exotic animal hospital is so professional, knowledgeable, and very friendly. My little guinea pig, Hannah, had the best loving care with Dr. Lewis. I couldn't have asked for more! Hannah's doctor was Dr. Taylor Lewis, who is absolutely fantastic! Dr. Lewis removed a mass and ovaries. Hannah was in exceptional hands! I have been to the Phoenix and Mesa offices for Dr. Lewis to care for Hannah. We drove down from Chino Valley. I recommend her to anyone needing a Vet. Thank you
Experiencia negativa: I had an emergency over the holiday weekend with my guinea pig and made the decision to come to this emergency vet. First of all I was at this facility for about 4 hours. Becuase I didn’t have an appt I of course knew it would be a wait but 4 hours? Once you hand off your animal to them, you’re not able to see them again until the payment is processed. Just knowing that my pig was sitting back there not even being seen by the staff. They also openly come to the waiting room (no matter how many other people are there and will openly deliver sad news to you in front of everyone). Lastly, the price - they quoted me $1300 just to diagnosis him. They were definitely playing on emotions, kept telling me how much pain he was in. I knew he wasn’t, their diagnosis covered everything you could imagine. It was crazy. They wanted to put him under which is so risky for small animals, that should be a worse case scenario. I also thought it was funny they made me sign an AMA. I just took my pig to his normal vet and what do you know, none of what that doctor diagnosed or recommended was necessary. I walked out of there spending $500 just on blood and fluids. Unreal. This place is a scam. Do not come here or trust them with your animals. As I was in the waiting room I obviously heard them trying to scam other people as well. Seems like their usual quote to people is around 1200-1300$. Wonder if that’s a quota for them.

Experiencia fantástica: My canary Feather had an issue with the leg id band. It was coming loose and bothered him. The vet said the metal bands are more difficult to remove and there may be problems. The team got the band off safely and Feather made it through the procedure and is now a happy bird. Many thanks to all.

Experiencia fantástica: The staff and Doctors at Arizona Exotic Animal Hospital are very friendly and professional. I've been going to Dr Lamb in Phoenix for years and it's always been a great experience. She's very compassionate and thorough!! Today I brought Sebastian in for his wellness check and RHDV2 vaccine, I had Dr Pilney and he was wonderful too. Dr Pilney was a very good listener and he took the time to ask me about my other rabbits, which was really nice!! I give 5 stars to the staff and Doctors at Arizona Exotic. Here's Sebastian (black/white) back home with his BFF Bodie. I sure wish you had a location further North in the Verde Valley, maybe someday

Each time they've taken not only an extreme caring interest in my rat babies, but the condition of me and my mother as well. Professional, extremely thoughtful, extremely caring, on top of everything. What's more, I just received a lovely hand-written sympathy note for my passed babies, and I can feel the sincerity in it. Experiencia fantástica: Incredibly friendly and helpful staff.Everyone loved Maxwell, my umbrella cockatoo, and they treated him like a prince. Was able to get me in same day as well. Definitely top notch staff. Everyone in all roles was spectacular.
Experiencia negativa: First, we arrived EARLY as instructed and asked. Our appt was at 3:30. We arrived at 3:20. We were not called back until 4:02pm. We then waited for the vet tech to come do the notes and chart. He was less than enthusiastic, wasn't the most friendly, and didn't seem to even want to be at work. After he took his notes, we waited for the Dr. She was very brisk in her assessment, a whole whopping 2 minutes and not a second more, was very assertive and pushy on the euthanasia. I asked for a few minutes to discuss this with my child who was there with her pet so the Dr exited the room. My child was naturally very upset. Next someone came in to discuss the price with us. We asked for a minute to again think this over, he exited the room. We waited 5 minutes and nobody came back, so we exited the room at 4:34 and walked to the desk, we told them we had decided to take out pet home as we have a second opinion with another vet on Monday. I asked them to check me out as I had to be somewhere by 5:15pm. I was told that I had to wait for the Dr to discuss us leaving against her medical advice, which was euthanasia. I waited a few minutes and then asked to be checked out again. I was told that I had to wait, meanwhile let me remind you that I have to be somewhere by 5:15, and I would have made it on time IF their office was running on time and took us on time at our appt time, but instead, I had to argue with them for 30 minutes to take my money and to check me out and leave because I was leaving against their advice and they were not happy with that. My pet is not bleeding or actively dying, he was born with back legs that don't work and a deformed shell, and I am fairly certain that he will live just fine until we see another vet for a second opinion. There was ZERO compassion and friendliness from the staff from the time of my arrival to departure. I am very upset that I was held against my will and that the front desk was actively DENYING taking my payment for 30 minutes while arguing with me about why I couldn't leave against their advice. Seriously, the WORST exotic vet I have ever been too in my 25 years of exotic pet ownership.
Experiencia fantástica: Our Guinea Pig needed urgent care and they let us come bring her in to be looked at. They took great care of her and loved on her. Rosie is the best! She was so personable and sweet and loved on our pet as if it was her own. It was a long night but everyone was so sweet and we got to take home a much happier GP. Thank you everyone! Experiencia fantástica: This is our first interaction with Dr. Taylor Lewis, who gave us a strong perception of genuine care for our super giant leopard gecko. Wow! She seems to have integral passion for the care of animals. She was well prepared for our visit, reading charts in advance, and ready to answer our questions. She spent time with us, true time, providing information and valued guidance. Very helpful for us in trusting her for any future visits in helping us care for our geckos. Experiencia negativa: I took our 6 year old Beardie to this hospital on Tuesday 6/27/2023 because they are the experts with reptiles. He had not been eating and had a prolapse. The Doctor told us during the exam that she did not like that he was so thin and his tail was enlarged but could give him sutures so he would not prolapse again. After surgery she said he bled and I asked her if it was normal and she said no with these easy type of prolapse procedures and that it could be cancer. We took him home and prolapse happened again next morning but this time it was worse. It was terrible. I called to get him in again that next morning but they were completely booked that day and we would have to wait with another “ emergency charge “ along with another prolapse surgery fee. I really wish she would have of covered the risk of the surgery potentially prolapsing again and we could have decided to let him go due to his quality of life that very day. I get surgeries are a risk but she alluded that this was an easy surgery with a few sutures. She knew his condition was severe because she’s a specialist but instead took our money and then the nerve to charge another 500-600 $ the very next day. It’s not even about the money because I have an excellent job but the quality of life for our beardie was most important. To see him have another prolapse AFTER the surgery was heartbreaking. I would never take my animals here. Again, I understand surgeries are risky but cover what could go wrong. P.s. I have never written a bad review!
