Experiencia fantástica: I’ve had several experiences with 1st Pet Veterinary Centers, especially their 24/7 service, over the years, and they have always been there during some very stressful situations involving pets. Most recently I brought my cat, Lola, in for an emergency visit when she developed sudden concerning symptoms. The staff took the situation seriously right away and performed a thorough evaluation while explaining the possible causes and next steps. Thankfully, Lola is doing great now. They also previously helped when our dog Dani had a breathing emergency, and the team handled the situation with professionalism and compassion. During another difficult moment, they were very supportive when I had to say goodbye to my childhood cat, which meant a lot to me. I’ve also seen them respond quickly to a very serious wound situation involving a dog, and they provided a clear and appropriate wound care plan while treating the case with urgency and care. I’m very grateful for the work they do and the way they support both pets and their owners during difficult moments. Their team clearly cares about the animals that come through their doors.

Cute pictures!!!!
Chante, Thank you for sharing this and for trusting us through so many important moments with your pets. That means more to us than we can say.
We know how scary those emergency situations can be, and it means a lot that you felt supported when Lola needed help and during Dani’s breathing emergency. And saying goodbye to a childhood pet is one of the hardest things a person goes through. We’re honored we could be there for you during that moment.
Hearing that Lola is doing great now truly made us smile. Thank you for trusting us with the animals you love.

Experiencia fantástica: I’m so grateful for this amazing vet team. My American Bulldog, Bougee had a potential blockage, and instead of rushing to extreme measures, they carefully evaluated her, explained our options, and chose the safest approach first. They were thorough, compassionate, and treated her like family. You can truly tell they care. Highly recommend for anyone who wants thoughtful, trustworthy care for their fur baby. We were expecting to pay thousands of dollars and leave us broke. But $318 later fixed her up. The 24/7 availability was a plus with no waiting on a Sunday.

Natalie, This means so much. Thank you for taking the time to share this.

We’re so glad Bougee is doing well and that you felt heard, supported, and fully informed every step of the way. Taking a thoughtful approach and walking through options together is exactly how we believe care should feel.

And we know how scary it is to prepare for the worst, both emotionally and financially. We’re really glad it turned out to be something simpler and that she was able to get what she needed without that added stress.

Thank you for trusting us with your sweet girl. Give Bougee a gentle hug from all of us.

Experiencia fantástica: First pet has emergency care, Surgery, internal medicine, and general veterinary doctors. We have been very happy with all of the care that first Pet has given to our Service Dog, Charley. The exam he had before his teeth cleaning was thorough. We were especially happy that they would be able to take dental x-rays to make sure that no teeth had to be extracted. He also had his spleen removed by a first pet surgeon, and Charley is doing very, very well. Charley has always been treated with great kindness. September 2025 Charley was very sick on a Sunday morning. We took him to the 1st Pet emergency room. Charley’s primary care doctor is at 1st Pet, too. So at the emergency room, all of Charley’s records were available. Charley’s vitals were taken as well as a blood test, which was thorough. They also examined a 2mm lumpy bump on his head. They let Charley stay with us while they took his blood sample and aspirated his little lump. We are clingy parents. The blood test evaluation was available in minutes. The pathology test for his lump was available in about two days and the doctor herself called me to tell me the results and the next step. The doctor and staff were kind and understood how much Charley means to us. They called several times after his emergency visit to ask how he was doing. He’s okay now, but I’m still a helicopter mom. There’s nothing they can do for me . . . I said to the doctor, “He’s like my baby.” She said, “I know he’s your baby. I understand.”

Experiencia fantástica: My sweet kitty Cinder was brought in to 1st Pet by a stranger after she was hit by a car. The staff and vet made her comfortable while they waited for me to arrive. Everyone was so compassionate and caring during this very difficult time. Ultimately, she passed, but I will always remember the kindness and sensitivity demonstrated to me and to my girl during her care. Thank you all; I will never forget you! Also, thank you to the person who picked her up and brought her in to the emergency hospital. I really appreciated the opportunity I had to say goodbye.

Experiencia negativa: It was horrific horrible I will never recommend this place they are crooks here they lie about everything they over charge you for and do unnecessary services and test to get your hard earned money and they do not care they lie about the care your animal receives they scare you into thinking your pet needs tests it doesn’t need they play on your lack of knowledge they lie straight to your face about what your pet needs they talk you into things that you don’t need if your pet is going to die anyway they do not tell you that they encourage more test more treatment when they know for a fact, your pet isn’t going to survive instead of being upfront with you, they string you along telling you that your Pet is doing well getting better when in fact it’s not they make you feel guilty. If you don’t do certain test that you’re not doing everything you could for your pet they tell you you’ve gone this far might as well go further when there’s no chance of your pet ever surviving it and then they twist it and turn it around when you confront them. I regret ever taking my dog there. I only did because her vet was closed. They straight up lied to me about everything and took $15,000 of my money knowing she was never going to make it. It was VEG when I took her out of first pet because they drained me of all my money it was VEG who read the records and told me my dog was never going to survive what she had she had IMHA and they told me we will euthanize your dog for free if you will do it because she’s starting to suffer. She was never going to make it do not ever use first pet. They are the worst they act like they’re compassionate and they’re not. They lied about taking my dog on a walk she couldn’t even walk.

Experiencia negativa: My puppy died a slow, painful death following a visit. I brought my 4-month-old teacup Yorkie in on January 23rd to establish care after moving to AZ. He was cleared as "perfectly healthy," but after receiving a rabies vaccine, he began a terrifying decline. He lost the use of his back legs, stopped eating, and his health failed day by day until he passed away yesterday. Watching him slowly die over the last 10 days has been a nightmare. To make matters worse, the clinic never provided me with any physical paperwork. I was told I’d receive an email with his exam notes and vaccination records, but I have received nothing. I have no record of what they actually found or what they injected into my tiny puppy. I don't believe they properly accounted for his age and fragile weight. A "healthy" puppy does not decline and die immediately after a routine vet visit. I am left with no answers and no puppy. Please, if you have a tiny breed, do not trust them with your pet’s life.

Lani,
We are truly sorry for the loss of your puppy. Losing a young pet is devastating, and our hearts go out to you during this incredibly painful time.

Because of the seriousness of your concerns, we conducted a thorough review of medical records across all three of our 1st Pet Veterinary Centers. We reviewed appointment dates, patient age, breed, and the details you described, and expanded that review to include surrounding dates to ensure nothing was overlooked. Based on this review, we can say with certainty that the visit you described did not occur at any of our locations.

While this care was not provided by our team, we recognize how overwhelming and isolating grief can feel. Our veterinary social work team offers grief support resources and support groups that are available to anyone coping with the loss of a pet, regardless of where care was provided.

We are truly sorry for what you are going through and wish you comfort and peace as you grieve.

Experiencia negativa: I took my Andy in Monday for respiratory..they brushed it off yeah it's over exertion with new kitten.. over 500.00 for the he visit. Not getting better, took him back in Tuesday about 330 am not breathing and coughing. Such a bad experience. Tech came in 30 min later vet came in. Ran tests. He was already stressed...when he returned from test his arm was seeping blood and he was wet underneath sliding all over the table! Hey get me a towel please. Vet came back in another 30 min and made a list of meds great! Something I already new he needed from the start! I had to flag someone down on what the delay was in getting him his meds because he was getting even more stressed and I was too. An hour goes by after flagging 2people a tech comes on with an attitude heres this that well you can read it later.. over 1200.00 to be treated this way after spending 4000... Over a two month period trying to get my cats balanced after getting a new kitten. Do your research! Some things like dehydration and pet not eating items can be found there, which the vet won't tell you. Under the weather paste and liquid to provide quick hydration...very disappointed during a most difficult time over the last two months..if I could get some of this as a refund/ credit because 1200.00 was overpriced for the treatment I received in the urgent care side.... Experiencia fantástica: I love the doctors, vet techs, and entire staff at 1st Pet in Chandler. This group of professionals is still independent, and not owned by one of the conglomerates. Their independence shows in the time they take with each patient (and the pet parents!). I can ask as many questions as I need to, and I will always get a straight and honest answer. The staff are also very caring with the animals, knowing each has their own quirks and personalities. And they fully understand these are our family members. Experiencia fantástica: I brought my 7 yr old cat to 1st Pet ER after a recommendation from her primary vet. Unfortunately, within a few hours she had to be put down. This was my first experience putting a pet down, and it was incredibly emotional, but Dr. (I believe was her name) and the entire team were amazing. They were patient, answered all of my questions, offered multiple options, and provided honest, professional guidance. Their compassion and support during such a difficult time meant so much to me. Experiencia negativa: I unfortunately left this visit feeling disappointed. I brought my cat in because he was ill. They kept him for a “full exam”, did bloodwork & gave him fluids & was sent home. The day after we arrived home, we discovered an anal gland abscess. I took him to a different vet who confirmed that this was the root cause of his issues. Because of that, the bloodwork & fluids wouldn’t have needed to be given if they had spotted the abscess in the first place. That also leads me to believe that a “full” exam wasn’t really done. They ultimately diagnosed him with “overexertion from our stairs”. I did follow up with the clinic afterward. They were responsive and offered a partial refund, which I appreciate, although it didn’t fully reflect the cost of the visit or the impact of the missed issue. The staff was kind and professional, but this experience affected my confidence in the thoroughness of the exam. I’m sharing this in hopes it helps improve exam consistency and communication for future customers.

Experiencia negativa: I went to this place. I have called before I go. I told them I don’t have insurance for my cat and she is throwing up blood. She’s dying. It’s really emergency. Can you guys take her? I don’t think I will be able to make a payment today and they told me oh she seems like having a hard time you have to bring her anyway either you can pay or not. Then when I get there, it’s totally change. The doctor told me having a pet is a privilege if you can’t pay for it, take her to the shelter and they left her vomiting blood without trying to do anything for her even if I wasn’t able to make a payment it’s emergency they supposed to take the pet to save their life. Not watching them dying that’s not what doctors should be if it’s emergency you should save lives not only for money This is the worst place ever you could go to.

When I was finally seen, the vet did not listen to any of my concerns and pushed for more expensive testing. Thank you for sharing your concerns. We reviewed the chat messages with our team, and we can see that you let us know Peggy was still having symptoms. Our staff continued the conversation, asked follow up questions, and checked with the doctor to give you guidance based on her history and what had already been tried. We are sorry if this did not feel helpful in the moment.

Ongoing diarrhea can have many possible causes, and sometimes it requires follow up with a primary care veterinarian who can run the next level of testing or help manage a longer term plan. We would be glad to talk with you directly and make sure Peggy gets the support she needs. Please reach out to us at [email protected] so we can help.

Experiencia negativa: This place is the worst. Overpriced and they didn't help my dog. She's still sick. They reached out again "to check" on her and when I told the Dr the dog is still sick, the Dr suggested I bring her in again. Why? So I can pay more money and you not do your job again? Avoid this place unless your pet is dying and even then you should probably go somewhere else.

Experiencia positiva: Not 24 hrs when you lock the front area. No reception and locked doors at 7am is NOT 24 hrs. You have people waiting in a locked area for their sick dog to be seen. Called and pressed button. Worker came but still did not open the door for people to be seen. This is time sensitive and not ok. Edited- I appreciated the very fast response to make sure this doesn’t happen again! Thank you

Experiencia negativa: We took our little boy to the emergency room because we found blood in his urine we got there at about 6 pm didn't get back home till after 1 am in the meantime the vet explained that he had bladder stones and will cost between 5 and 7k we ask if there was another alternative he said the can put a catheter and push the stones back into the bladder, but he just kept insisting that he needed to perform the surgery and he would not stop insisting finally we tolthe surgery d him no and to do the catheter. The next day I went to another vet ask about the price for the surgery I was told that it would be about $2500.

Experiencia fantástica: I have never met a more genuine and amazing vet staff in my life. This was the first time I had to bring my puppy Biscuit to the vet, and it was at night, which made it a little more difficult and alarming. From the moment I walked in, to the moment I left everyone was so gentle and kind. They were able to retrieve what he swallowed and I am grateful! Biscuit left smiling with his tail wagging. Thank you all!!! UPDATE: We have been going to Dr. Nicholson and staff and the 1st vet emergency center for almost a year now and they continue to amaze me on how pleasant and caring they are with Biscuit. Experiencia negativa: I’m writing this review regarding the recent loss of my dog, Yoshi. Before I begin, I want to emphasize that Dr. Stanton has been an outstanding veterinarian and has cared for my wife’s family’s dogs for over 20 years. She was not involved in this incident. Yoshi was also an older dog at 16.5 years, so we recognize that age was a factor. The issue arose when we brought Yoshi in for treatment of an anal abscess. He walked into the clinic on his own, and several staff members even commented on how well he was doing for his age. At that time, he had no issues with his back legs or hips. After the abscess was drained, we took him home, but shortly after, he began screaming in severe pain — not just a yelp, but intense, ongoing cries. He was unable to support his hind legs, collapsing whenever he tried to stand or go outside. We immediately called the clinic and were told to bring him back. When my wife did, the staff reviewed his chart and stated that his condition wasn’t their responsibility since he had previous issues. They offered additional x-rays — at an added cost — but ultimately just prescribed pain medication, which we were still charged for. That night, Yoshi continued to cry out in pain and could not stand, eat, or drink without collapsing. By the next day, despite further calls to the clinic, we were told it might be due to anesthesia or medication. His suffering worsened, and ultimately, we had to make the heartbreaking decision to put him down. What has been most upsetting beyond losing Yoshi has been the lack of accountability and communication from the clinic afterward. Despite multiple calls requesting to speak with a manager or owner, no one reached out. When we finally followed up, we were told the staff was “aligning communication” before speaking with us — which felt less like compassion and more like avoiding responsibility. Also, David the director hung up on me due to him not wanting to speak with me regarding this issue. In our experience, the focus seemed more on deflecting blame and charging for additional services than on helping our dog or supporting us through his decline. For this reason, while we continue to deeply respect Dr. Stanton, I cannot recommend this clinic for emergency care and would urge others to proceed with caution.

Experiencia fantástica: Absolutely love the team here at this vet. They are all very friendly and show genuine care for my pup! He actually loves going to the vet and it’s because of them! They always call the next day to check on him, even if it’s just a routine appt. They send him home with a “get well soon” card, with personalized notes from the entire team, after any surgery or procedure needed. They really go above and beyond to care of their patients and put owners at ease. Also, very helpful that they have late hours so even routine visits don’t interfere with my work schedule. They have an emergency clinic onsite as well, which just provides peace of mind. 10/10 would recommend!!

Experiencia negativa: ⸻ We have been coming here for over 20 years to see Dr. Stanton, who has always been fantastic, honest, and caring with our aging pets. Unfortunately, our most recent experience at their emergency clinic has been extremely upsetting. We brought in our 16-year-old dog for a simple, non-life-threatening anal abscess. He walked into the clinic just fine, but after mild sedation he was returned to us in obvious distress. We were told his reaction was likely due to the medication and that he would be fine once it wore off. However, once we brought him home, it became clear something was very wrong—he could no longer walk and was not using his back leg. We immediately took him back to the clinic, where we were met with inconsistent explanations. The vet first stated that she had not handled him herself and that the technicians had performed the procedure. When questioned further, she backtracked and said she had been present. When I asked who caused the injury, I was told “no one.” Instead, we were told that unless we paid $540 for X-rays, they could not help him. When I asked what the X-rays would show, the response was “a fracture or arthritis.” I then asked how a fracture could possibly have occurred during such a routine procedure, but no clear answer was given. In the end, nothing was done to help him, no accountability was taken, and we were left with a dog who is now unable to walk and is urinating on himself. It is heartbreaking to place your trust in a clinic to care for your pet in a vulnerable situation, only to face this kind of outcome. After this experience, I would strongly caution others to be wary and to never let your pet out of your sight while in their care

We are truly sorry for how distressing this experience has been for your family and for the loss and suffering you’ve described. When a pet’s health changes suddenly, especially in a vulnerable moment, it is heartbreaking and deeply emotional. We recognize how upsetting this situation has been and how much trust you placed in our team.

We value the long relationship you’ve had with our practice and with Dr. Stanton, and we never take that trust lightly. Our emergency team’s goal is always to provide safe, appropriate care and to communicate clearly about findings, options, and next steps. We understand that in this case, the outcome and the communication left you feeling unheard and unsupported, and we are genuinely sorry for that experience.

Our leadership team has been in direct contact with you to better understand your concerns and to review what occurred, and we remain committed to learning from this and improving how we support families during emotionally charged situations.

Out of respect for your privacy and the complexity of medical cases, we’re unable to discuss specific details publicly. However, we do want you to know that your feedback has been taken seriously and reviewed internally.

We appreciate you sharing your experience and wish peace and comfort to you and your family during this incredibly difficult time.

Experiencia negativa: I brought a very sick stray cat to you yesterday, and the way he was handled was unacceptable. A tech came into the room and said, “That cat is feral and almost got back outside and ran away.” Then I was told the vet couldn’t do much because he was “wild.” He is not feral. He is not wild. I held him and petted him before bringing him in. He was sick and scared. And what do you mean he almost got back outside and ran away? Do you leave doors propped open while assessing sick, frightened animals? That alone shows a complete lack of care and safety. You told me he “wasn’t sick enough” to help. I then asked that you humanely euthanize him at my expense, because it was clear he was suffering. Said the vet would have to do another assessment - for over $250 - What?! However, the vet refused my request. This morning, I brought him to a real hospital for a proper assessment. His body was already shutting down. He was old, every tooth fractured, lethargic, suffering from an irregular heartbeat, his kidneys were failing, malnourished, & dehydrated. I paid $311 to have him humanely euthanized and finally given peace. SHAME ON YOU FOR DENYING HIM CARE. SHAME ON YOU FOR REFUSING HIM DIGNITY. SHAME ON YOU FOR MAKING HIM SUFFER NEEDLESSLY.

Experiencia fantástica: I cannot shout out this clinic enough — especially the absolute rockstars running the emergency side at 1st Pet Chandler! I came in last week facing one of the worst moments of my life, terrified I wouldn’t be bringing my boy back home. But the emergency team showed up with unmatched compassion, skill, and grace from the second we walked in. From the chaotic (and yes, very tearful) intake to the incredible moment of discharge, the care we received was nothing short of exceptional. I met so many amazing techs in such a short time that I wish I could remember every name — because every single one of them treated my pup like their own. Their love for the job and genuine care for their patients radiated through everything they did. Dr. Berko and Dr. Sanchez — THANK YOU. You gave us the straight talk when we needed it and didn’t let go of hope when it mattered most. You connected us with specialists and helped lay out a plan forward, which made all the difference. And Ricky — you are a LEGEND. Your constant check-ins gave me peace of mind I didn’t think was possible in a time like that. Because of you, I didn’t feel the need to call or show up constantly — I knew he was in the best hands. To the entire 1st Pet Chandler Emergency Clinic team: THANK YOU a million times over. Experiencia negativa: Ive taken all of my pets to this clinic for the last 10 years. I was always pleased with the care... until today. And I didnt even have to go in the office for them to be rude, assuming and judgmental of my choice of when I wanted an appointment. Im so sick of Vets like this. Its already stressful to have to get your best friend care, but to be subjected to the judgement of not bringing them in for a $250 er visit when you can make an appointment for the next day. By the way they have ER visits and vets avail but no time available for a regular visit. I will NEVER come to this clinic ever again. And thats sad because I think they provide good care for animals. If they were focused ON CARE, not churning ER visit fees, maybe then they would be worth returning to.

Experiencia negativa: Way too expensive!! Very poor service. I got home from work and found out that my dog had been peeing blood. I grabbed her and went to 1st Pet. After waiting 2 hours they put us in a room. An hour later the Vet came in and diagnosed a possible kidney stone. Said to sit tight for an x-ray. My dog and iat tight for approximately 5 hours and never saw another person. By now it was 2am, I picked up my sick dog and walked out. I called the next morning and was told someone would be calling me. I figured fat chance and I was right. I realize this is an emergency hospital and no one thought it was an emergency except me. My dog just needed some relief. Many people that came in AFTER us came and went. My dog sat there in pain. The dog after us had been lethargic for a week! He was of more importance. He even left 5 or more hours before us. REALLY, POOR SERVICE!!!! HAVEN'T GONE HERE SINCE AND NEVER WILL!!!!!

We’re sorry this experience felt so frustrating. We know how difficult it is to see your pet in pain, especially during a long and emotional night. As an emergency hospital, we prioritize care based on the severity of each patient’s condition, which can sometimes lead to longer waits for stable pets.
We’d really like to look into this further, but with limited information and no recent visits under your name, we haven’t been able to find your or your pet’s record. If you’re open to it, please email us a [email protected] so we can better understand what happened

Experiencia negativa: Stay away from this clinic if you care about your fur- baby. I’ve posted about my experience there and unfortunately got a response that makes this clinic look even worse : besides being not attentive, not providing the necessary help and care and claiming they are “fear free” , sadly they are lying about the real situation happened… From their response: “ At your visit, your dog was already extremely anxious, and placing a muzzle escalated the situation. Our doctor asked for the muzzle to be removed in an effort to de-escalate and support your dog’s emotional needs. Unfortunately, communication became difficult, and our doctor was not given the opportunity to fully explain her recommendations. Several of the medications that would have helped calm your pup were declined, making it unsafe to proceed with the full exam. Our veterinarian respectfully recommended rescheduling the exam after the dog had taken the recommended medications, which is standard protocol in Fear Free practices.” 1. The real situation was completely different. This pup is very friendly, he loves everyone but has an issue of jumping.. 2. The tech decides to muzzle him and after fighting with the pup for a few minutes, she pinned him down on a floor..On his side, holding his head!!! She wasn’t able to put their muzzle.. It was so heartbreaking to watch what she was doing to the pup , to realize her unprofessionalism and obviously her forced actions!! I had to step up and put my muzzle on the pup.. 3. You can imagine how the pup and we were feeling after “ the tech’forced interaction “.. 4. The reason for the visit was to do the bloodwork and get some anxiety meds that help with his overstimulation.. 5. The doc refused to perform the bloodwork and prescribe the meds but requested to come again to get this done .. 6. Then she came up with the pre-visit sedation that might cause the adverse reaction- I told the vet about it, and I’ve asked to give the different meds.. Sadly she wasn’t willing to work on it , she completely ignored and insisted to go with her meds instead . 7. Same with the pain meds: we’ve asked for the pain meds . Gallprant to be specific as it has no side effects and is very effective.. She wanted to prescribe the carprofen that has all kind of side effect plus might damage the liver and kidneys.. 8. After that all above, We’ve decided to end up our visit being very stressed from this experience and feeling very disappointed and overwhelmed by how this clinic treats patients.. 9. Besides the fact how they made us feel, our pup was terrified of the vet and her technician and was extremely fearful until today, that is the 4th day after that vet visit!!

Experiencia negativa: Said they gave my pet anti seizure med a SHOT and then charged me for a shot that was not approved by me.Then had the nerve to charge me $755.00 for putting her to sleep when I just brought my senior pets in for half that price. This is outrageous everyone else in the valley charges $30 too $100 for a 10 lb chichihua.Taking advantage of us doing our pets time of need.

We’re so sorry for your loss. Saying goodbye is never easy, and our hearts go out to you during this difficult time. Every pet we care for is treated with compassion and urgency, especially in emergency situations. Euthanasia costs are based on the level of care required, not a pet’s size. We understand how emotional this time is and wish you comfort as you grieve.

Experiencia fantástica: This is the place to take your pets. The staff is friendly, courteous and kind. One of their best attributes is that they are also open 24hrs a day. I happened to be walking my dog on a Sunday morning and decided to check to see if they were open. Sure enough they were and I was able to get my dog set up with his first shots and also a neutering appointment for later this month. They accommodated me according to my schedule. I’m working a 9-5 job so this helps me out a lot! They are my “go to” now. Thank you 1st Pet!!!!

Experiencia negativa: Absolutely do not take your pet here. My dog has gone here twice- on emergency and regular visit. Aside from charging ASTRONOMICAL prices, they also do not do their due diligence understanding symptoms and concerns, and are more concerned about how much money they can get out of you. Last week, I took her in for an emergency visit after I noticed that she wasn’t breathing correctly. After ordering scans and bloodwork, they said that she evidence of fluid in the lungs but weren’t concerned enough to keep her overnight. I was told to take her in the next day for a regular vet visit, which I did. That vet was much softer, and a lot kinder. However, the testing that I could afford was blood work. She had anemia- the first sign something is wrong. I was told to monitor and come back in a week if symptoms persist. I took her to a vet today, and he was incredibly appalled by the way 1st pet handled my dog. He was so upset that they didn’t keep her for monitoring, didn’t suggest secondary ultrasounds, and even sent me on my way. We found out that she has stage 4 lung cancer- something that should have been caught during my INITIAL emergency consultation. Now I am stuck paying over $700 for two vet visits that warranted zero help, and am having to scramble to find a way to put my dog to sleep in the comfort of our home. I am incredibly disheartened with the level of service we received, the failure to catch a seemingly obvious ailment, and the ridiculous amount of money I now have to pay to veterinary center I will absolutely never go to again. 1st pet used to be great. It’s evident now that they are in it solely for the money and hire subpar staff. Edit, after 1st Pet sent a response: The first veterinarian performed a FAST scan and found evidence of fluid in my dog’s lungs. Despite this, and concurrent signs of anemia on her blood work, she expressed no concern. The next day, at a different location, the second veterinarian ran additional blood work and found that her RBC count had dropped even further. As my current vet has explained, anemia is often an early indicator of serious illness in animals. Yet, even with this knowledge and visible respiratory distress, no effort was made to perform an ultrasound or further investigate the fluid previously detected. Instead, I was told to “monitor her symptoms” and return in a week if they worsened. Both providers failed to act on critical clinical signs, choosing instead to recommend unrelated tests that delayed an accurate diagnosis. This not only prolonged her suffering but directly contributed to a later-stage discovery of her cancer. What is most concerning is that neither veterinarian seemed alarmed by three very obvious red flags: A) She was severely anemic. B) She was visibly struggling to breathe during both visits. C) Her gums were nearly white, and she had drooping eyes—both classic signs of lung distress. This is far below the standard of care expected by clients, and presumably by stakeholders in a multi-location practice such as yours. The apology I received, paired with a vague justification that financial concerns were the reason proper diagnostics weren't pursued, is unacceptable. It reflects not only poor judgment but also a lack of accountability and compassion. It is difficult to believe that the health of animals is a priority for this organization when obvious, concerning symptoms are dismissed and opportunities for intervention are missed as well.

Experiencia fantástica: Outstanding. Everyone at First Pet made an extremely hard day a bit easier to cope with. Sadly, we had to have our cat put to sleep. He was a beloved pet of 14 years and it was a very hard decision. All the staff were so considerate, caring and thoughtful. They really cared for my family and I. We were not rushed, they explained everything, and made sure everything was done respectfully and per our wishes. I cannot recommend these folks enough.

Experiencia negativa: If I could give 0 stars, I would. I brought my dog for an emergency visit, their night Dr (Brunce) was insisting it was valley fever. Even when X-rays were done, he was unable to read them correctly. Due to his negligence, a few days later my dog had to have emergency surgery. Tragically, he did not make it & passed away here at 1st Pet. Stay away from this place. They will charge you an arm & a leg just to misdiagnose.

Experiencia negativa: BEWARE - DONT EVER GO TO 1ST PET VETERINARY CENTER IN CHANDLER AZ Our dog Carlos has been very sick, diagnosed and treated for Valley Fever, hepatitis and a lot of "gunk" in his gallbladder. He has been very sick for almost 2 months requiring us to go to the ER, a specialist hospital and ultimately, we were advised to follow up with an internist vet. We chose to see Dr Maeckelberg, an internist at 1st Pet Veterinary Center in Chandler AZ. We saw Dr Maeckelberg one time and then 2 weeks later we had our second visit with her. The internist was treating our dog with medication for the Valley Fever, the liver issues and his gallbladder issues. Blood and x-rays were again taken at this visit. The doctor addressed the Valley Fever and liver issues but did not mention the gallbladder, so we asked about the gallbladder, and she said she couldn’t see the gallbladder. Nothing more was said. Our dog continued to be very sick and would not eat. Twelve days after our second visit with the internist we again had to take our dog to the ER where our internist worked. There they discovered that his gallbladder was so enlarged it needed to be taken out. Again, we were very upset and scared, especially since Dr Maeckelberg ignored our dog's gallbladder at his last visit. However, we wanted to do what was best for our dog, so we agreed to have his gallbladder taken out. The next day, 13 days after our visit with the internist, Carlos’ gallbladder was removed and we were at the hospital every day, 3 days, to be with him. The vet-tech we’d seen on prior visits stopped by once to check on Carlos and even though his Internist saw us in the parking lot and waved hi, she never came by to say hi or check on Carlos during the three nights he was in the hospital. Fortunately, the surgery went well and after post-operative recovery and lots of money Carlos was discharged home. Unfortunately, he was not given enough anti-inflammatory medication, Rimadyl, requiring us to have to call and ask for more. We were doing everything that we were advised to do and finally after a few days of taking the anti-inflammatory, Rimadyl, our dog started responding positively. Sunday was our last dose of Rimadyl as they only gave us 3 pills or enough for 6 days, so on Monday we called the Internist requesting more Rimadyl. Starting at 10:30AM we called the clinic several times, were told that the doctor and or tech would get back to us or call in the prescription, but this never happened! Finally, at 4:15 we called and was told that our doctor wasn't working that day and no other doctor could read the chart and write the prescription for the anti-inflammatory medication! We were advised that we would need to go to the ER for this prescription! We delt with our dog’s illness for 2 months, We spent a huge amount of money, We watched our dog suffer and then, when we were desperate and needed help- We were lied to - the doctor wasn't working when they told us they were getting messages to her - and absolutely worse of all there was NO COMPASSION for our dog and for us! The medication that FINALLY seemed to help him, the medication that we were requesting is an ANTI-INFLMAITORY medication, a medication that is not a controlled drug or opioid but a prescription medication only for animals and is an ANTI-INFLAMITORY medication. We have changed our internist to another internist who will hopefully be more compassionate and responsive.

Experiencia fantástica: I brought my 15 year old cat, Rocky, in for an emergency visit. The staff was amazing! The doctor was very caring and patient with me and talked in great detail about all my options. When it was time to send Rocky over the rainbow bridge- they gave me all the time I needed. The next day, a social worker called to check on me. And about a week after, I got copies of Rocky’s paw prints with a sweet condolence card. (And the card was not a “form letter” card!! It was personalized to me and my sweet boy) Excellent service and wonderful staff!

Experiencia fantástica: I have two dogs and have needed to bring them here twice. Once when my pomeranian puppy had a food obstruction and once last month when my older lab mix was dying and needed to be assessed before getting euthanized in the middle of the night. Both times were upsetting experiences for me but the staff was very kind and compassionate and I didn’t need to wait either time. I just picked up the paw print they had made of my dog and the staff all wrote nice things in a sympathy card along with it. I have a lot of respect for veterinarians and the other related professionals! It can be a thankless job considering that people are often upset with the high costs or care and the poor health of their beloved animals. Thank you all for what you do!

Experiencia negativa: Brought our dog to this emergency vet coming from his PCP Vet due to emergency nature with his urinary being full and unable to urinate. Dr. Then told us we have 12 hours to decide whether to do surgery which cost 5k to 6k or euthanize our dog if we don't decide surgery the surgery does not guarantee that our dog will be better so we are thinking why put him in so much pain. We then took him to another vet who sent us home with antibiotics our dog peed the same day. Their decision almost cost us the life of my pet. I would suggest take your pet to a different emergency vet. After 2 days of antibiotics our dog went back to his normal state. People here are nice and courteous but i believe improvement of care is needed.

Experiencia fantástica: 1st Pet is the best vet/emergency vet I’ve ever been to. They care for your pet as if they were their own. I’m wrecked with grief after having to let go of my precious cat today. He was my best friend and the sweetest cat anyone had ever met. He greeted everyone that ever entered his home and was just a happy go lucky kitty. He hid his illness too well, until he couldn’t anymore. I wish I remembered specific names, but everyone involved in Dexter’s care was phenomenal. They provided such great care for me, my financé, and our sweet Dexter. Experiencia negativa: This clinic is ridiculous. When my dog hurt her paw a few years ago, they told me it would be 72 hours before they could see her. More recently, after eating chocolate, they would not just take her in and induce vomiting and give charcoal. They insisted that I call and pay another fee to poison control. Found another emergency clinic that induced vomiting and gave charcoal. Would not recommend this clinic they have gone downhill in recent years.

We’re sorry to hear about your concerns and appreciate you sharing your experience. A few years ago, during the height of COVID-19, many veterinary clinics faced significant challenges, including high demand and limited availability.
Regarding poison control, it has been our long-standing policy to ask clients to call them before treatment (they are paid directly by clients). This is because poison control provides essential, case-specific guidance tailored to the substance ingested, your pet’s size, and medical history. This ensures your pet receives the safest and most effective care possible.

We know emergencies can be incredibly stressful, and we’re committed to providing compassionate care during these moments. If you’d like to discuss your experience further, please reach out to us at [email protected].

Thank you for sharing your feedback. As with many veterinary and human urgent care providers, recheck appointments are billed separately since they involve additional time, resources, and expert evaluation. This is a standard practice that helps us provide thorough care for every pet.
In this case, after we provided the recheck, no payment was made, and we were informed that a negative review would follow if we didn’t waive the charge. While we understand financial concerns and aim to work with each client, our priority is maintaining fair and consistent policies to support our entire pet community. Please reach out if you’d like to discuss this further.
Regarding the dental estimate, we know that extensive dental work can seem costly, especially when a pet's dental disease is advanced. Our estimate reflects the thorough care required to safely and effectively treat severe dental issues and help improve quality of life. If you have any questions or would like to discuss options, please reach out. We're here to support you and your pet’s health in any way we can.

Experiencia negativa: Dog got a gash and needed stitches: Came in at 6:30pm and waited for 5 hours in the exam room for a doctor, only to find out that we did in fact need stitches. Surprise! And that we’d need to wait another 3-4 hours for enough nurses to come in for her “procedure”. Not sure how many doctors and nurses you need for a few stitches but these people don’t care for your time and will jerk you around without disclosing important information that would make you go elsewhere. They kept claiming additional emergencies were coming in despite no sign of any activity at the only entrance to the office. Their office staff’s goal seems to be to make you wait until you have no other choice but to stay and the doctors simultaneously don’t care at all about your time. Avoid this place if you can, though as they seem to know, they are the only ones available in the area for 24/7 emergencies and will take advantage of your love for your pet to make as much money off of you for as little effort on their part. Worse than a crooked mechanic shop. Update: Quoted $800-$900 for stitches after waiting 9 hours. Don’t have any other choice now without risking additional scarring and discomfort for our dog. Don’t let them get you like this.

Experiencia fantástica: I took my dog at 11 pm and night and everyone was still so friendly and attentive. The best experience I have had with a vet and everyone was so nice and patient with my nervous dog. I left feeling comfortable they helped my dog and educated me on how to help my dog at home.

Experiencia negativa: Our child took their pet in, it was 3 yrs old. Used other location before, so thought would be okay. $4300 later one day of fluids and gave false hope saying numbers were increasing, so did an ultrasound then all of sudden numbers are worse. Pet passed. Glad I could assist in lining their pockets. offering 6 months waived interest for a bill like that is just adding insult to pain.

Experiencia negativa: Brought a puppy here once and was told she had parvo. We couldn’t afford treatment so they offered to put her down for us or treat her if we turned her over to them. Went home, did some research, and decided to treat her ourselves. She ended up making a complete recovery and to this day we’re not entirely sure parvo was the real issue. Our dog’s been great and we’re so glad we didn’t listen to these people. Saved us a lot of money too. Haven’t been back since.

Experiencia negativa: I’m writing this as I sit here with my beloved dog Buddy dying next to me. This place didn’t kill him. He had a bad reaction to medication. The reason for my review is simple. I feel taken advantage of by this place. We brought him in as a last resort, fully prepared that he would die soon, based on imagine done by our regular vet. We came to confirm this so we could proceed with euthanasia before his kidney issues got any worse. By the time they were done, they convinced me that he could be saved and needed to be admitted. Two days later, he’s in worse shape than when we started. We were billed nearly 7000 dollars to keep him, run tests, and put in a feeding line. Once we saw his condition it was clear he would not survive much longer. Yet the doctor who came in told us at first that all he needed was to eat, and he should pull through. One last bit of false hope. Not 5 minutes later she returned and offered us the option of putting him down in their office. Apparently she hadn’t even bothered to look at him before giving us the original prognosis. We were left sitting in the waiting room after a tech carried him back to remove the tube, and failed to hold him carefully. I had to ask the receptionist twice to get someone to hurry up and return him to us, before he died there. We planned on home euthanasia and didn’t want him dying in a strange medical building. I’m not blaming them for his death, but I feel that they took us for every cent they could based on providing us false hope. And to add insult to injury we were charged 150 dollars for meds that we said several times he would be unable to take as he wasn’t interested in eating. We explained we already had pain meds in liquid form and didn’t need anything else. I’m heartbroken about this and the vet did nothing but give me a huge credit card bill to stress over, simply because I love my dog and thought they would help him. Because that’s what they told me.

Experiencia negativa: If you love your pet DONT TAKE THEM HERE. Went in about 4-5 times in one week. First the ER gave us false hope that my baby would be able to live through this small tumor on her lymphnode. Then 2 days later internal medicine tells us (very rudely like we should have known already?) That her cancer is most likely terminal. Had us pay even more hundreds of dollars for a test that my cat didn't stay alive for the results and they still charged us. So 2 days after i had to say goodbye to my baby, i got a call telling me she had a rare form of double cancer.. gee thanks?Every single time we came in nobody knew my cats gender much less what we had previously came in for that SAME WEEK. So we had to re explain every single time. To top it off, after we had to put my baby of 14 years down, we wanted to view cremation, where they will charge you an additional 500 dollars just to stand there on top of the 500 they charge you already for the service. So I had to find another place while they held her body. I called at 6am yesterday and asked them to thaw her because we had to do her paw prints ourselves prior to the cremation appointment with the new place, I was greeted with snooty remarks talking down to me because they were pissed they had to thaw her and refund us? And guess what THEY NEVER TOOK HER OUT. So during my baby's cremation appointment, my poor bf and i had to use body heat to thaw her just enough to get a few paw prints. It was traumatizing as hell. This place is a joke, nobody knows what they are doing and everyone is so so so rude. If they don't refund me for the test we didn't need or ask for, I'll be disputing with my bank. These people don't deserve a single cent and I only went there out of desperation, they are as bad as banfield pet hospital. steer clear from both and keep your fur babies safe.

Experiencia fantástica: I was able to get same day appointment for my cat at 1st Pet Primary Care. Most other places were booked out for 1-2 weeks. Staff was professional and caring. My cat was calm during exam and treatment plan explained to me.

Tabitha Gardner Publicada en Google 1 year ago

Experiencia negativa: There was a distinct lack of compassion from the staff. One tech even manhandled my pet in his crate as he was dying all because they didn't believe me when I told them they did not give back his comfort toy when they took him away. They eventually found it in their back room shoved between two crates. There was no need to hurt my poor baby! My pet needed a blood transfusion but all they were willing to do was give fluids and pain relief. Which did nothing to prevent them from being on death's door less than 24 hours later. Everytime I've gone there, no mattet the reason, their answer is just "fluids" and an enormous bill. My baby was dying before their eyes with all the clinical tests proving it and yet the doctor didn't give my pet the treatment they needed to stay alive. As a result my precious baby's health quickly deteriorated to the point they could not be saved. All they want is your money, to do the bare minimum to get you out the door, and certainly no willing to do what is needed to keep your pet alive!

Experiencia negativa: 1st pet tried to put my dog through surgery for a split disc as there 1st option. Once we asked for what other options are available outside of a $10,000 surgery they said we could try rest and medication. They charged us over a $1000 when they agreed to monitor him overnight. He ended up walking around about 15 minutes after we left and stated we needed to pick him up and he could not stay for monitoring. We had bad experiences before with them and will never use them again. Our dog recovered fine with rest.

Experiencia negativa: Horrible experience here. We brought our pup in for lethargy, vomiting, and lack of eating. We were going to have X-rays done and follow up with blood work if needed. It took these people 9 hours to call me back with the results (after us calling 5 times to check in). Turns out my dog had swallowed what they thought was a rock and would need surgery to remove it because it was “highly unlikely that it would pass naturally.” They quoted me an INSANE $10,000 for this surgery and of course wanted me to pay for an overnight fee because they couldn’t possibly do the surgery that day (at this point he’d been there for 12 hours). The vet was extremely unprofessional, saying that she was trying her best but was tired and only had one meal that day basically excusing her poor quality of care. She was rude and admitted that my dog had not received any food, fluids, or gone to the bathroom that day. I decided to take him home for the night and bring him somewhere else in the morning since he’d just be locked in a cage. Literally within 2 minutes of being home, we take pup outside and he poops out a small piece of a plastic toy. MIRACULOUSLY this was the “rock” that they had found and he instantly felt relief. Thank god I took him away from this dumpster before going through with the surgery. Just AWFUL.

Experiencia fantástica: Taking your Pets in for routine or emergency healthcare is always a little stressful. At 1st Pet they make you feel like you and your pet are their first priority as soon as you come in the door with a warm greeting and then being taken to a private room for treatment. Our dogs are always excited to come in too. We never have to wait long to be seen, always are sent home with clear instruction on care and follow-up appointments scheduled if needed. Questions are always welcomed and answered clearly. Thank you all for taking such great care of us, Cooper and Pedro

Experiencia fantástica: We brought our 75 lb lab there in the middle of the night and they were waiting for us in the lobby with a gurney and brought her back right away. Unfortunately it was time for our beloved pet to pass on, but they were so compassionate and patient. They were honest and had fair pricing, they allowed my child to sit in the waiting room (she didn’t want to see the end) and brought her snacks, they explained everything in the process, and everyone was professional and caring. 10/10 would recommend this place to anyone experiencing a pet emergency.

Experiencia negativa: On February 2nd I brought my dog into first pet presenting with the following symptoms: straining to deficate, blood in stool, and I visually identified a rectal protrusion (I made the mistake of mentioning that it was possibly prolapsed). As usual with emergency vets, we waited for a while until the vet tech was able to take my dog back to be examined by the veterinarian. From the moment Dr. Shana Nagy walked in, I immediately felt dismissed. Because my dog wasn’t prolapsed, she did no further investigation into the fact that I identified *something* protruding from my dog’s rectum. A few X-rays were performed, her stool was tested, and I was told a thorough rectal exam was performed. $1000 later we were sent off with the diagnosis of a bacterial overgrowth and some probiotics. On March 22nd my dog presented with the exact same symptoms as she did in February with me identifying the same protrusion from her rectum. I brought my dog to the Mesa location since Chandler was busy and after a brief exam the vernarian, Dr. Ryan Bunce diagnosed my dog with a rectal tumor. My dog had emergency surgery on March 25th to remove the 1 inch long, 3/4 diameter tumor and on April 1st, I was told my dog has cancer. I generally like to give people the benefit of the doubt when it comes to mistakes, but I have a hard time accepting that a tumor of that size was able to be missed if Dr. Nagy had in fact been thorough with her examination of my dog considering it was exactly where she supposedly was looking. I know there aren’t many options when it comes to emergency vets in the area, but I’d truly recommend going elsewhere if your dog isn’t critical and you have the few extra minutes to go somewhere further. Small mistakes are understandable, but missing a tumor that ended up being cancer is something I hope never happens to anyone else. I’m lucky that a month and a half wasn’t the difference between my dog surviving or not, but I know not everyone else will be that lucky. I’m left wondering if the tumor had been caught in February instead of March whether or not the cancer would’ve had the chance to spread as much as it did.

Experiencia fantástica: We had a wonderful experience here. The staff was very friendly and efficient and amazingly helpful. We came here very concerned with a dog we’d been told was not pregnant previously by another vet. Luckily for us, it was a very happy birth of two puppies after arriving in the vet center. The staff was really amazingly helpful from the moment we called to when we left. I would definitely recommend this vet to others in need. Thanks so much!

Experiencia negativa: 1st PET should not be on anyones list for adequate VETERINARY CARE. They had 3 years to provide care to my puppy and 2 months after his last appointment with them in 2020, he was diagnosed with lymphatic STAGE 3 CANCER, I had to put him to sleep 1 month later. They could have told me about the veterinary CANCER HOSPITAL in the same town but that was nit on their list of important information.

Experiencia negativa: My cat had a potential emergency, brought her in late one weekend. Unsure what was going on with her, will this clear up on its own or is it serious. The front desk staff, the vet techs were all very nice. The vet, however, was not. He showed no emotion, no compassion, didn’t even interact with my cat, didn’t listen to me. They wanted $1500 of work done - meds, bloodwork, X-rays, but he wouldn’t tell me what they could possibly be looking for. It honestly felt excessive - he said something about seeing a radiology expert, thyroid testing, none of which made sense to me. “This can’t be a thyroid issue can it, she has no other symptoms” “well we don’t know have to find out”. She literally had one acute symptom and is in perfect health otherwise. I don’t have that kind of money, they’re very much “no money, no service”. The vet didn’t give me any insight to what might be the problem or maybe do these tests in steps first. I can almost guarantee that if I did get all the work done, that $1500 would only have been the start, I’m sure they would have wanted more testing after that. This was the equivalent of talking to a mechanic to get your car fixed. I paid the $200 for the exam, another $100 for some fluids under her skin then left. I didn’t feel comfortable with this vet at all, even if I did have $1500, I wouldn’t have felt comfortable with all that testing. Just felt excessive. The next day at home, my cat finally used the litter box, her body just got rid of whatever the issue was and she’s 100% better.
