Experiencia fantástica: Late Friday night we discovered a large lump on our dog that seemed to have happened quickly, so we brought him into SAV for an exam. His overall condition was considered abnormal and they were a bit perplexed by what was causing his ailment (we had also brought him to Pantano Animal Clinic who thought the same thing, so this was a universal opinion), so they were very thorough in covering all bases by working their way through several tests. They remained conservative, only ordering tests in waves so that they didn't have to have us spend more than was necessary. He had to stay overnight for monitoring and fluids, and they took very good care of him and collected a lot of data to help diagnose his condition. All in all, we saw about 4 different vets over the last few days, the last of which was Dr. Gordon. They were all incredibly kind, professional, and thorough and explained things well to us. Information was passed from one Vet to another and everyone was up to speed on the situation by the time we talked with them. The staff at the front desk were very kind and helpful as well, keeping us informed through all hours of the night when we'd call to see how he was doing. Additionally, SAV was very efficient in proactively sending test results back to our primary at PAC so that they could remain informed about our dog's progress as well. Hopefully we don't have another emergency, but if we do we'll definitely come here.

Experiencia fantástica: The staff is so caring. I had to have my baby cross the rainbow bridge after 13 years. It was very late so I didn't use my regular vet. The staff was so caring and compassionate, When the ashes and paw prints came back spelled wrong, they did everything to fix it immediately. Thank you Michael.

Experiencia fantástica: I've had only good experiences with them. Both their expertise and care far surpass any other veterinary center in the city. They've been able to identify, medically, what others have not. They are attentive and responsive. They care for your pet's well-being.

Experiencia negativa: Instead of offering affordable euthanasia, they charge $175 for Quality of Life exam, then twice that to actually care for your pet.

Southern Arizona Veterinary Specialty and Emergency Center

Conversations around quality of life and end-of-life care are never easy, and our goal is always to provide compassionate guidance and support for pets and the people who love them. Experiencia fantástica: Unfortunately our loving dog was hit by a car. We brought her here and Dr Dow and the entire staff were wonderful! She was sadly put to sleep, and the kindness they showed was above and beyond. I highly recommed them!

Experiencia fantástica: Our 13 year old dog suddenly started acting strange and we brought her to Southern Arizona Veterinary Specialty Emergency on a Saturday. Every person we interacted with was kind and attentive. Dr Darcie Nightengale was focused and provided a clear explanation of her initial diagnosis and treatment plan. The following day, we were informed the prognosis was grim, as we had suspected. While it was a different vet, Dr Cynthia Gordon was well-informed about our dog's situation and incredibly compassionate. She explained options and answered our questions. She didn't push us toward any one particular option. We made the hardest decision, to let our dog go. As soon as we did, the vet acknowledged it was the right thing to do given the circumstances. As brutal as that experience was, we would highly recommend SAVSE to anyone for care of their pet. They were kind, compassionate, accommodating, and understanding.

Southern Arizona Veterinary Specialty and Emergency Center

Thank you so much for sharing your experience. We’re so happy to hear that Dr. Nightengale and Dr. Gordon were able to provide compassionate support during such a difficult situation. Experiencia negativa: Hundreds and hundreds of dollers later we still left with out a diagnosis they were insinuating she got into marijuana even though we don’t use that!!!!!very judgmental second time they done that to me in 2006 they insinuated that aswell!!!!test came back no toxins ofcourse as we knew!!!they checked her for Parvo Knowing I declined against that, they were just trying everything in their power to make me spend money on unnecessary test. My dog was around another dog that we didn’t know had kennel, cough, and we advised them of that and they still didn’t check for that turns out my dog does have kennel, cough.called a manager she was very nice understanding doing investigating hoping someone makes it right I feel we were discriminated felt very uncomfortable

Experiencia fantástica: I had to take my old man Snickers in to be put down today. He didn’t have a primary vet so no other place would take him without being a patient and to get set up it would have been $300-$800 in order to put him down. This place was a very fair price and the staff were so caring. You get to be in a room with your pet, give them chocolate and the doctors and nurses were so sweet and caring and my boy was comfortable and happy the entire time. It was so peaceful and they were so kind. Thank you guys for helping his journey P.S they are walk in only.

Southern Arizona Veterinary Specialty and Emergency Center

Thank you for trusting us with Snickers during such a difficult time. We’re glad we could help make his goodbye as peaceful and comfortable as possible and that our team could be there to support you. Your kind words mean so much to us, and please know we’re thinking of you.

Experiencia fantástica: A wonderful experience at an incredibly stressful time! From check in to triage to talking with the doctor, everyone we interacted with was kind, patient, and helpful. The doctor laid out all of her thoughts, concerns, and potential treatment options. She fully supported our wishes to be as minimally invasive as possible and did not push costly, stressful testing on our highly-reactive cat. I felt she had a lot of care and concern for doing what was best for his overall well-being, not just the current emergency. The wait times were long but I didn't feel like they were unreasonable because you could tell they were actively working on bigger emergencies. I hope we never have to go back but feel confident if we needed to, our pets will be in capable, loving hands!

Thank you for taking the time to share your experience! We know how stressful urgent situations can be, and we’re glad our team was able to support you and your cat with compassionate care. We’re grateful to be here if you ever need us again.

Experiencia fantástica: We drove from Safford AZ which is roughly 2.5 hours to this vet, they immediately took our Doggo back, and while they were determining what was going on with him, they treated our other pup like a princess. We had to bring her due to us leaving town. They gave her treats and loved on her making her feel easy about being there. Within 20 mins they had a diagnosis and treatment plan which included sedation. Showed us our options for payment and made the ENTIRE process very pleasant given the circumstances all while being considerate of us traveling from that far away and us getting there at 10:30pm. Michael at the front desk was amazing and very helpful throughout. Absolutely recommend and will be forever grateful for saving our pup.

Experiencia negativa: Very nice and friendly staff but sadly after about 4 hours of waiting they said it could take another 4 hours before they might be able to see our dog. Made us feel like we didn't matter. We left with no care for our dog

Experiencia negativa: I brought my bleeding family member to these people, and the only thing they cared about was bleeding my wallet dry. $3000 just to see what was wrong, after paying the $200 cover charge, not even to offer help. I don't have that kind of money laying around so I said to give me 2 hours to figure it out. In those 2 hours they called me many times, they emailed me many payment links, they texted me many payment links. Constant hounding for cash. 2 hours later I finally arrive at the location. After so many calls, you'd think this was urgent but no, I'm made to sit in a windowless room for over an hour waiting for the doctor while my poor boy dies in the back room. I had taken their quote to the hospital up the street and they said the cost is $600 for the same diagnostic process. I feel like they're the reason I'm currently building a tiny coffin in my garage. $400 for nothing.

Experiencia negativa: Our pets are family. After our dog, Rico, passed away, we were treated without empathy and threated with police involvement. Rico had been under their care, and they already had all of our information on file. Despite this, compassion was absent when it mattered most. We ultimately took Rico to Cavano Animal Hospital, where we were treated with kindness and respect. WE WILL NOT RETURN TO SOUTHERN AZ VETERINARY SPECIALTY AND EMERGENCY CENTER.

Experiencia negativa: I took my cat in because she hadn't had a bowel movement in 4-5 days, he was seen, given an enema with no results, was told to take him home to see if he went, but if had not gone I could bring him back and for another $219.00 they give him another enema...I paid $553.00 for no help. Referred me to a regular vet. Give metamucil ..not fair .they said constipation was not an emergency. .

Experiencia fantástica: The care my cat Luna received here was absolutely amazing! Every doctor and technician we interacted with was incredibly kind, compassionate, and attentive. During such a scary and overwhelming situation, I felt genuine relief knowing my girl was in such great hands. They have an excellent system for triaging and prioritizing patients, which made it clear that every animal is evaluated carefully and given exactly what they need. Even though emergency care can be expensive, I never once felt pressured to approve anything unnecessary, the team was transparent, flexible, and very reasonable when discussing options. Luna had to stay overnight for multiple nights, and the staff did an amazing job keeping me informed. They were patient with my many phone calls, answered all of my questions thoroughly, and made sure I always knew how she was doing. Their communication alone made an incredibly stressful experience so much easier! I am beyond grateful I found this place. They truly saved my cat’s life, and I will never forget the care and dedication they showed to Luna and to us. Thank you, thank you, thank you!

YOU CANT EVEN CALL ME BACK AND OFFER AN APOLOGY FOR MISDIAGNOSING MY PET ⁉️ YOU HAVE NO COMPASSION AND HOW DISGUSTING THAT YOU RUN YOUR BUSINESS LIKE THIS‼️

Experiencia negativa: I had the unfortunate need of taking one of my dogs to the ER as she was really sick, I didn’t want to come to this place as I’ve heard awful things however due to my desperation I didn’t have a choice. I can see why this place has the reviews they have. My family and I requested a couple more minutes to talk about what next steps to take with our dying dog and the vet assistant states “well I did end my shift, like 10-15 minutes ago so I guess I can give you 10 more minutes”. Who says that to someone who’s about to make such a heartbreaking decision? Where are her priorities? How insensitive and inhuman can someone be? We get it , working in Healthcare is tiring but there are times and places to say things. Yeah guys , if you’re looking for a place that only sees you as a check and doesn’t care for your pets. THIS IS THE PLACE FOR YOU!!

Southern Arizona Veterinary Specialty and Emergency Center

Experiencia negativa: I know they have to see really really emergency cases first, but my dog has an open wound on her face and they charged us $175 to take her vitals and then make us wait for over 2 hours with no update, nothing. I’ve seen some other reviews that said thag waits have been even longer, with even less communication. Anyway, finally, we are told we are “assigned a doctor, just waiting for a tech to be free.” Said tech people were nice but obviously gabbing away while people are waiting and wondering, because they only came out for a transfer from another vet. They were free, they didn’t want to help. I understand it’s late AND a holiday weekend, and some cases really are more emergent, but it’s frustrating to know that they seem to pick and choose when they want to help patients and when they don’t. And to charge a fee that high just to get their vitals it’s kind of insane.

Southern Arizona Veterinary Specialty and Emergency Center

Thank you for sharing your feedback. We know how stressful it is to wait when your pet needs care, and we’re sorry for the frustration this caused. Our team strives to keep communication as clear and timely as possible, and we see every pet as quickly as we can while triaging the most emergent cases. We’d be happy to discuss your visit in more detail if you'd like to reach out directly.

Experiencia fantástica: I took my dog Oakley in and from the moment we walked in, I knew he was in good hands. Michael and Meghan got him back right away and Dr. Zumpano and her team worked quickly to manage his pain. The next morning Dr. Gordon spent a lot of time with me going over what she was seeing (Dr. Zumpano did as well the night before) and helped me make the right decision for my pup. Every staff member was caring and compassionate. (I'm sorry I don't remember the names of the three others that assisted with the euthanasia, but they were very sweet and kind.) Thank you all for your excellent care and compassion. Having Michael at the front desk as the first person to help made me feel he was in good hands from the beginning.

Experiencia negativa: Took my Lexi girl to this clinic, my vet set up the visit and had asked staff to do certain tests and tasks. The clinic did an ultra sound which my vet had asked them to do. My vet couldn’t tell what type of object was in Lexi’s stomach off of an Xray. The vet at the clinic didn’t see anything questionable on the ultra sound. My vet did bloodwork and X-rays which was sent to the clinic. I don’t think the staff even looked at Lexi’s chart from my vet. The clinic totally misdiagnosed my dog. The next day I took Lexi back to my vet where they did X-rays again and did another ultrasound where my vet could tell what was in Lexi’s stomach off of the ultrasound that SAAV missed. Did they even do the ultrasound??? I will never know but they definitely charged me for it. I did not have a great visit and they didn’t help my dog in any way, Lexi was very dehydrated no fluids, no pain meds. I will not be back.

Experiencia fantástica: I just want to say thank you to everyone at this hospital! My boy was transferred here from another clinic because he needed 24 hr care. I was a complete wreck coming in with my boy and Every single person from Michael at the front desk to every single tech I came in contact with were very professional and so caring. The first Dr we saw( i can't remember his name is know it started with an M) put me at ease and explained everything my boy would experience while being there overnight. They gave me a # I could call at anytime to check on him and everytime I called someone answered and gave me updates. Which I am very grateful for because we live an hour and a half away from Tucson. The next day I went in around 3pm and I met with Dr Dawson she is the sweetest and answered every single question I had. They treated my boy like family and im very thankful that he was on the mend and got to come home the next day! Thank you to everyone at this hospital for taking care of my Thor! ❤️❤️

Experiencia negativa: 3 years ago I had a sick kitten. I didn't put any thoughts into this then because I was just distraught and wanted her better and the shock after the loss, I guess I didn't bother to evaluate or fester. Anyway, it was like 9 at night and with no one in the waiting room except me I didn't lose my temper or evaluate the time of waiting for 7 hours with no one in the hospital because that's how bad I wanted the good ju ju of a thankful and happy outcome. She got taken for evaluation and was gone for another three hours. Blood work to determine kidney failure and euthanization cost over 800 dollars. At random a week ago I looked up the cost of blood labs for a human and Google said blood drawings range in 20-40 dollars, so basically a test and lethal injection are over 760?

Experiencia positiva: are chihuahuas attacked by a German Shepherd and had severe wounds.when they came in to tell us what they had figured out for treatment options for her the first thing they started doing was pushing how much can you pay. I understand they need to collect payment information but I was more concerned about how my dog was doing and what Her diagnosis and prognosis was. leading in with that would have been way better than telling us how much we had to pay before we even knew what was wrong with her how serious she was injured. because of the cost but mostly because there was no guarantee that the dog would make it we opted to have her euthanized.I can't say that if the price was free that I would have made any different decision thoughbecause of how badly she was wounded.when we opted to have her euthanized there were options that they were afforded us such as a small Urn to put the ashes in and her paw print in clay,.and they were all wrapped in a little velvet bag. the staff did work very quickly to try and save her but I fear the damages were too severe. as I said I do not think I would have made a different decision even if the cost was free and they're Aftercare was excellent.

Experiencia fantástica: The staff here are absolutely wonderful! I brought my cat in who had been vomiting for 3-4 days. I was really worried he was going to need surgery for an obstruction. After some fluids and medication he was almost to 100% the next day. The staff was very open to answering any questions that I had, after moving across the country I feel relieved knowing I can bring my pets somewhere in case of an emergency!

Experiencia fantástica: We took our pup in for an emergency visit and could not be more impressed! Michael at the front desk is by far the kindest and most compassionate person I’ve run across in years! Dr. Joshi was so patient and reviewed all of our options with us. The thing I most appreciate is, they didn’t try to upsell us to do a lot of tests and services that our dog didn’t need. I hope I don’t have to use their services for a long time, but they will be my first choice from here on out.

Experiencia negativa: Receptionist was really nice. I took my dog in at 10:30pm because he was unable to urinate. We waited 2 hours to see a Vet, but never got to speak to one. A tech later came and told us they only had one veterinarian and they were busy with a critical case so they were unable to see us and referred us to VCA animal hospital. I paid $175 to be referred to a different vet.. a waste of time and money.

We’re sorry your visit didn’t go as expected. We know how stressful urgent situations can be, and while our team works to help every pet, we have to prioritize the most critical cases. We hope your dog was able to receive the care they needed and is doing well. If you’d like to talk more about your experience, please feel free to reach out to us directly.

Experiencia negativa: I share this information with the hope that no one else will have to deal with the same frustration. I took my dog to this center last Wednesday for an ear hematoma. After waiting about 5 hours and having to call or go into the lobby for updates, I got my pup, paid the bill (they had already charged my card $979 and indicated I'd be getting a refund of $360), and left. I'd like to mention that I don't know anything about veterinary care or how much emergency services usually cost. Someone from the facility called me over the next couple of days. Each day they left a message. Not asking about my dog, but letting me know they forgot to charge me for 2 procedures. When I called back, I spoke to someone who indicated that after the new charges, I would only be getting a refund of close to 2 hundred dollars instead of the original $360 they quoted when I left. I asked for an itemized bill and an itemized invoice before I would authorize any more charges/refunds on my card. I got those documents but it was still not clear what I had been charged up to that point. The next day I got a text indicating I would be charged an additional one hundred and ninety dollars on top of what was paid and no refund would be given. ??? What? The two charges they forgot totaled over $530!! I tried to explain what I had been told already but got no response to my message (they let me know via text about the additional charges). The next day, I got a phone call from a supervisor. After discussing the matter with her, she indicated they created her position because the vet technicians OFTEN forget to add charges, and she always has to follow up. "It happens all the time" she said. I explained that is a real problem because I thought I had paid my bill and was done with the matter. She also told me she discussed the bill with the doctor and they gave me a "considerable discount" so I would get a refund of 100 bucks. How much of any of this is true? I got 4 different stories from 4 different people. I can't recommend them. Very unprofessional. Poor communication. I gave 2 stars because the vet was kind to my dog. Without that... one star. Pic of my pup for cuteness.

Thank you for sharing your feedback. We’re very sorry to hear that your experience with our hospital left you feeling frustrated, especially with the communication around your visit and billing. Experiencia fantástica: My furbaby (7mos) was not feeling well the full sickness vomiting, loss appetite, diarrhea and very lethargic for 2 days. Early AM I rushed her to the ER and was told she was postive for parvo. My sweet girl was so sick however she was still alert and able to walk on her own. Being said, 3 treatment options were given, hospitalization (not affordable), out patient treatment (reasonable and home treatment) or euthanized (not a choice for us). We chose *Out patient treatment which all medications, antibiotics, injections, IV, etc included to get her well to recover. The vet technician explained every step for her treatments to me being I will be the one to do it and showed how to do the IV/injections. This treatment included a shot called *CPMA Injection VIAL (canine parvovirus Monoclonal Antibody) this option can be with or without the treatment however this Injection is highly recommended to help your pet's body fight off the parvo virus also this Injection will be given to your pet by the Vet technician before taking your pet home. Keep in mind, based on my experience *Out patient treatment requires alot of time, patient, ❤️ LOVE,learning your pets reactions, etc. Parvo makes the body very weak and hard for the pet to open the mouth to eat/drink so we had to slow feed by inserting small portions of food ( Gerber chicken baby food) by hand together with the meds/insert water with a syringe. First days of treatment was the hardest of course isolated from other pets, diarrhea in full effect ( lots of daiper changing),hand feeding, Slobbering (constantly wiping her mouth),constantly disinfecting the house( clorox/water solution), took about a 1 week 1/2 for my pet to finally drink on her own small amounts but still needed to be hand fed with medications. 2nd week she was able to eat/drink on her own small amounts ( baby food due her stomach is still recovering can't take large portions or hard dry food)recovery was looking good. She had a FUP check up with her primary VET and received good feed back on her health. Her VET recommended to bring her back in a week to do a Parvo test. It's now the 3rd week , my pet has made great progress and improvement she is back to herself with lots of energy Items used daily (we purchased): Daipers, training pads, baby wipes, A&D ointment (was needed for rash due to diarrhea) this ointment healed the rash quickly and is recommended for pets, medical gloves (sanitary purpose), clean water/food bowl daily refill with fresh water, clorox water mixture, lysol spray, & clorox wipes for cleaning Huge Thank you to the staff for assisting us with our pet ❤️ the guidance thru the process and made sure we were cared for. This was a roller coaster experience but definitely worth it for my furbaby

Experiencia fantástica: The staff here are nothing but kind and understanding; I've had to take two of our family members here for their final goodbyes and each time I was greeted with empathy and quickly taken back. Experiencia negativa: I hope this message gets total attention, this message is only with the intention of bringing awareness,a while back brought my doggie (sparky) to this place by request of La Vida animal hospital, sparky was very ill at the time and the attending vet couldn't figure out what was going on, so she just took the easy way out by suggested to me 3 times to put my doggie to sleep, i refused since i know my doggie and knew in my heart he wasn't ready to be put to sleep yet, after being under hospitalization care for 3 to 4 days i decide to take him somewhere else, since female vet still couldn't figure out what was the cause of the pain and her final answer putting him to sleep! Well thank God i took him somewhere else because let's just say sparky was put in a treatment and make a fully recovery from a bad digestion, unfortunately can't remember the vets name just know she was a white female, but please don't settle for some vet first diagnosis (put your beloved companion dog/cat ect..to sleep) this female vet was going to kill my doggie sparky, and I'm so grateful I follow my heart after 3 years sparky still here and been a happy pup mommy's name Silvia figueroa. Please coordinators/management, staff, vets, nurses, pay attention to this type of matters. Our beloved animals are family their lives matters.

Southern Arizona Veterinary Specialty and Emergency Center

Hi Silvia, we understand how upsetting it must have been to see Sparky so ill, and we are truly glad to hear that he is doing well today. We would like to assure you that our veterinarians never recommend euthanasia unless it is considered in the pet’s best medical interest after careful evaluation and discussion with the family. Experiencia negativa: I took my cat to this vet this morning around 3:00am to be euthanized. He was struggling with chronic kidney disease and anemia for a little over a month and was in treatment but it wasn’t working and he began to decline. I took him to this vet on a whim because they said they would hold his body for me so I could pick him up in the morning and take him to get cremated by a different company. I was with my friend at the time who came with me for support knowing I had to euthanize my cat. Upon arriving, they took my cat promptly. The speed of service was appreciated. The tech that helped us was nice but I noticed immediately that she was directing all of her questions about my cat to my friend. I was holding my cat when I walked in, I provided the information about what was wrong with him. I filled out the intake paperwork with all of my information because he was my cat. She took us to a room and let us know that she would be back with more forms to sign, again, mostly speaking to my friend regardless of the fact that he was not speaking back to her or answering any of her questions because it was not his cat. She brought in the tablet to go over what I wanted to do with the remains and to sign for permission to euthanize. She faced the tablet mostly toward my friend and spoke directly to him. I had to sit up and move my body slightly in front of his to get her to talk to me. I paid for the euthanasia before the service and I signed for everything and answered all of her questions myself. She then brought my cat in and tried to hand him to my friend. I had to stand up and step in front of him to get him in my arms. I spent time with my baby and said my goodbyes. The doctor came in, Erin was her name, I believe. The doctor was amazing. She sat directly in front of me and didn’t make me move Tim at all. She spoke directly to me and me only. She knew it was my cat somehow when the tech didn’t. She made the process as easy as it could have been given the circumstances. I really appreciate her kindness. I would not have been upset if the tech, (Kelsey?) was talking to both me and my friend. I was upset that she directly spoke almost only to my friend and hardly to me. I understand she doesn’t know us and can’t automatically know whose cat it is. But I feel like it was clear after I answered all the questions, filled out the paperwork, and paid for the service that the cat belonged to me. I picked up my cat at around 5pm after going home and sleeping for a few hours after the rough night/morning. There were two techs that met me around the back and gave me my cat in a little cardboard coffin. A young man and woman both with dark hair. I did not catch their names but they were so nice to me in the few seconds of interaction I had with them and I really appreciate their kindness as well.

Experiencia fantástica: As I traveled across the country, I faced a heart-wrenching challenge on my 6th day of a 10-day journey. My beloved Louie (16.5 yrs old) suddenly took a turn for the worse in the Arizona desert having a stroke. Despite being in a remote area, I searched several small towns & found solace in the kindness and compassion calling Southern AZ Vet. I drove another 85 miles to reach them & they immediately took me in without an appointment. Dr. Shannon Cochran & her staff were consoling & compassionate while I had to make the most difficult decision to not let him suffer another day. Louie's peaceful passing in my arms will forever be etched in my memory, and though grief followed, I found peace knowing I made the most humane decision. Receiving his ashes today brought me closure, and I'm grateful for the time we shared.

Experiencia fantástica: From start to finish, hospital staff provided excellent, compassionate service for my doggo, who had some acute GI distress. Front desk staff conducted a thorough triage and intake, the vet (Dr. Nightengale), promptly came to the room to give her impression and provided a thorough list of treatment options. Her patient education was stellar (I learned some helpful info!). She offered both an interventionist and wait-and-see option, which I appreciated. The decision-making felt collaborative, and she supported my decision to monitor and seek primary care follow-up instead of admit my dog for monitoring and fluids at the hospital. After bloodwork, UA, and exam fee, I paid about $500, which was pretty comparable to what one is expected to pay at an ER vet. For what it’s worth, the exam fee ($175) is effective for 24 hours, so you don’t have to pay it twice if your pet has multiple ER visits in a 24-hour period. I thought that was a really nice touch. The vet also emailed me the visit and discharge summary within a few hours of my dog’s visit, which was so helpful. I know it’s always hard (and expensive) to take your furry loved one to the ER vet, but this one is a good as they come!

Experiencia negativa: My review is from my experience in 2023 and the reason I’m leaving a review now is because I’ve now experienced emergency care from another emergency veterinary hospital. My dog, Murphy, needed emergency surgery due to a squeaker getting lodged in his small intestine. What transpired after that surgery was a nightmare. I truly understand no veterinarian can predict how a dog will respond to surgery. Murphy was otherwise a young and healthy, three year old boy. I expected a couple days in the hospital, but what I did not expect is as his progress worsened, no one had an answer or a game plan on how to proceed. Specifically, Dr. Joshi, came into the room after I requested an update from a veterinarian (he looked worse each time I visited) during one of my daily visits. He spent about 2 minutes in the room with me, advising me he had not had an opportunity to look at my dog because frankly he’s not the most critical animal there and after skimming Murphy’s notes, he didn’t really understand what was happening with him either and would try to take a look at him before his shift was over. This was a reoccurring theme each time I visited him. I was fortunate enough to see Dr. Gordon once who did sit with me and break some things down as to what was happening. Eventually Murphy did come home after about 4-5 days. I waited another 4 hours to be seen for an issue regarding his incision and staples. Murphy was so uncomfortable he couldn’t even lay down during the entire wait in the lobby. Dr. Dow, took him back and cut one of the staples and squeezed out some pus. He also let me know he thought my dog was just being dramatic. I don’t know who the theatrics are for and why he would stand for 4 hours straight but ok. I returned again due to continued discomfort from the staples and spoke with another young lady who I hate I cannot give the credit to. She validated my concerns and said she did believe he was in pain and not just being “dramatic”. She provided additional pain medications that were able to make him comfortable enough to lay down and rest. Two stars for the front office(they were easy to work with and kind) and the two female vets that took time to speak to me thoughtfully.Im grateful Murphy survived but if I had not had an employer that was also compassionate about animals I might have lost my job trying to advocate for my dog and not go insane. Sadly, we are working with VCA on 22nd due to our other dog dealing with a spleen tumor rupture. The experience has been night and day. We received daily (normally 2x a day) check ins from the Veterinary and have not had to call and beg for one. We’ve seen/spoke to a vet each time we’ve visited and despite there being complications, they have always spoken to us compassionately and with knowledge of our dog’s current state to help us make decisions. If you’ve made it through this lengthy review, I highly recommend you trust VCA on 22nd with your ER needs. You’re already experiencing something incredibly difficult, don’t experience it with a place that makes it incredibly difficult on you to get an update on your pet or to be told each visit that his symptoms and behaviors are “odd or dramatic” without any plan or communication of what might be happening.

Experiencia negativa: On May 27, I came to your ER with my GSD Zelda. On our arrival, I described her symptoms, which were very serious. After sitting in your lobby for a very long time, several people coming in after us, and being taken back, I decided to try to contact my own vet, who agreed to see us right away, because the symptoms I described were so serious. I left after waiting over an hour. My dog, unfortunately did not survive the day. I would just like to express my utter disappointment and disdain for your triage system. I don't feel you listened to my description of what was happening with my dog...In the past, we have used your facility, but I will never again entrust you with the care of any of my remaining dogs. Experiencia negativa: I waited seven months to write this review. It took a trip to an excellent emergency hospital to get motivated. I brought in a very sick dog having trouble breathing. I'm sure her care and treatment were correct. The bedside manner of the vet that treated her was horrible. I had compassion for the stress of the Vets job. I wish he had had compassion for my fear for my dog. They took her to the back and I never saw her again she died around 12 hours later. I had to call after around 8 hours to get an update . No one kept in touch with me. Before I left the vet talked to me about her condition . He mildly guilt tripped me for not bringing her in sooner. Not realizing I had taken her 6 days earlier to my regular vet because of knew something was off and she got a clean bill of health from that visit. He was obvious in his dislike of her breed. French bulldog and when I said she was a young dog ( 6 yrs old) he said she was not young . The average life span is 10-12 years. He was very negative about her prognosis. He made a horrible situation worse. I would never go here again. I recently had a different emergency hospital visit and they were so well staffed there was no wait. They allow you to stay with the pet thru their treatment and all day if you like. Their mission statement even says if your pet is hospitalized overnight. You can stay overnight with them .there was no negativity. Just kindness and compassion.Something I did not receive at Southern Arizona Emergency Clinic

Experiencia fantástica: Southern Arizona Veterinary has been so helpful when we needed to help 2 of our fur babies cross the Rainbow Bridge This last time (4/24/2025) they completed everything. We were provided with a room where we had the opportunity to say "we'll see you at the bridge". Able tell her how much we loved her. Feed her a lot of chocolate They handled the euthanasia of our girl, Mystic, and provided the cremation. It was absolutely awesome. We received a wooden box adorned with flowers for her ashes. Experiencia negativa: Just spent $175 to have our little 1 year old pup get weighed and ear temperature taken by a kid complaining that she only gets paid minimum wage as we sat in the lobby for almost 2 hours being passed over for a couple of cats that were en-route but had not arrived (we also called ahead and were told appointments weren’t taken). Pretty sure you should at least have a resident do the diagnosis and not a kid from Pet Smart University. No communication and an air of dismissiveness. I co-own a medical clinic for humans, and I would terminate both those employees working tonight.. After asking how long we would need wait…2 or 4 more hours the “underpaid” young lady said maybe, and that we were welcome to call our own vet in the morning. Our little guy is back home still peeing out his bottom and has thrown up again (2 days straight now).

Experiencia negativa: My dog had emergency abdominal surgery at this veterinary center two days ago. Unfortunately, there was a lot of concerning events that would make it so i would not recommend this vet to anyone. After my dogs surgery, i picked her up and she was covered in her dried feces. my dog, after a surgery, was kept to lie in her own poop until we could pick her up and clean her the next day. not only does this increase risk of infection, but my dog was probably terrified. She also had bloody fingerprints all over her back - hopefully not another animals blood. the tech triaging us was also very unprofessional, my dog puked during and she never turned away from her computer or helped us to clean up. She sighed and rolled her eyes multiple times. Overall, i feel my dog was uncared for by staff and the place was unclean. I was told a manager would call me back yesterday about these concerns but no one reached out to me :/

I finally said I needed to go as I had decided to take my pup home and have them give her a Parvo antibody shot $1400 and do the sub q injections at home. They said there were going to go put the IV in her and give her the shots and would be right back to show me how to do the sub q. I waited another 45 minutes and said I really needed to go and asked if they would check to see how long it would be before they would actually be done with my dog. they said 45-1 hours so I left. I was gone about 10 minutes and got a call stating that I could come back. FYI I had not slept all night, eaten, or fed or got my other dogs out...I was there a total of over 4 hrs and now have to go back. I FEEL they take advantage of the fact that your are desperate to save your dogs life and can take advantage of your desperation and charge you enormous amounts of money just because they can. However, there really are no alternatives but I would not go back to them. I will say that the vet tech Selena? tried her best to help me and was patient with me with all the medications and showing me how to do the subQ even though I know she knew I was upset about the length of time it took for me to get my pup out of there and home. I am treating her at home after getting her the Parvo antibody, subQ and other medications...I do think she did a good job

Experiencia negativa: People are super nice but it's like being at a car dealership. We took our puppy for what we pretty much knew was a UTI but. After nearly 4 hours and nearly $800 I was given clavacillin and an anti inflammatory for a UTI. Unfortunately our vet is closed on weekends so we had to take her here but it won't happen again.

Experiencia negativa: Quite truthfully this place is a money grab. They really dont care about your pets it's just something they do. When you call them about their fees, they'll share the initial fee of 175 dollars but, when you ask how much are blood panels, or hydration packs, or very specific things, they reply, "i cant give you that answer " Pets and their owners deserve to be treated with honesty and open information. We have a right as clients to have an idea of what we're facing. Very unimpressed And SOUTHERN ARIZONA VETS.....dont post some canned BS response that acts like you care to this post. Its insulting!!! Ive seen your other replies to your 1 star reviews and its rediculous.

Experiencia fantástica: I have to thank everyone at SAVS for being so gentle, kind, and thorough with my boy Otis. It was so scary and heartbreaking for us, but the love of animals was so amazing here. Everyone from the Veterinarians, to the nurses, technicians and even the sweet woman going around and making sure the place stayed clean, greeted Otis with love. He went to heaven knowing he was so loved and such a good boy! I highly recommend this place for all your Veterinarian needs and especially emergencies!

Experiencia negativa: We took our 4 year old American Bulldog to this Emergency Vet. He was suffering from severe anemia. Our local vet recommended we take him here. After his first night there the Doctor directed a clerk to call me and ask for over $2000. more before she even gave a report on how my dog was doing. In fact she never called, I had to call her. During the call she tried to talk over me and Twice I had to tell her to let me speak. I found her to be rude and disrespectful. The information I got from her lead me to believe my dog was doing better. When I picked him up the next day, he clearly was not doing better. After he came home he continued to deteriorate. He didn't even last 24 hours and he had to be put down by a local vet. This is what you get from this vet for $8000. Good luck.

Experiencia fantástica: 5 stars because we had the most unfortunate visit this evening. Our cat experienced a medical Emergancy that we could may have predicted and from the moment we arrived every staff member was not only kind but compassionate and patient with us. No one ever wants to have to seek euthanasia for a beloved pet and the entire team here did everything possible to make the process easier for us. Pet emergencies are scary and emotional but the team here after hours were angels

Experiencia negativa: Update: March 2025, still no communication for ownership. They killed my cat and don't care On September 30th, 2024, we brought our cat to your facility due to low body temperature. Dextrose was administered via IV, and the cat’s condition improved significantly during the 24-hour stay. We picked up our cat the following day, October 1st, and shared with Dr. Nightingale that the breeder was confident the cat had an upper respiratory infection. Dr. Nightingale agreed this was a possibility, as all tests had been coming back clear. We were prescribed antibiotics at that time. On October 3rd, we returned to the facility as our cat was on the verge of death. Despite being fed high-calorie supplements, which we had discussed with Dr. Nightingale (who approved of this plan), our cat had lost more weight. Upon arrival, the cat was warmed up again and given more dextrose. While visiting our cat in the back, one staff member informed us that levels were improving. However, I witnessed Dr. Nightingale preparing a syringe to administer more dextrose when another staff member (presumably a doctor) walked by and commented that the volume needed to be watched. Dr. Nightingale appeared puzzled and then switched to a smaller syringe, which was approximately one-fourth the size of the original. The entire smaller syringe was administered. Shortly after this, we were informed that our cat’s condition was improving, and we left the facility. Within the hour, we received a call stating our cat had suffered a seizure and was unlikely to survive. Upon returning, we were told our cat would not recover and were advised to proceed with euthanasia. We paid for a necropsy to be conducted by the University of Arizona. On October 14th, we were informed that our cat’s ashes were available for pickup. When we inquired about the necropsy results, the staff member stated they were not yet available. On October 25th, we followed up again and were told the results had been received on October 17th but that no one had contacted us. We were eventually connected with a doctor who reviewed the results and stated the cause of death was “negative energy” and lack of fat on the cat. During this conversation, it was also revealed that Dr. Nightingale is a resident and should have been under supervision at all times. This raises significant concerns, as there appeared to be little to no supervision during our visits, aside from the comment regarding the syringe volume. Based on the circumstances, I believe Dr. Nightingale may have administered an overdose of dextrose, which led to the seizure and subsequent death of our cat. We are deeply concerned about the care provided, the lack of supervision, and the delay in communication regarding the necropsy results. We askwd for a detailed response addressing the following: (AND THEY WONT RETURN OUR CALLS) 1. The level of supervision provided to Dr. Nightingale during our cat’s treatment. 2. The protocol for administering dextrose and whether it was followed appropriately. 3. An explanation for the delay in communicating the necropsy results. 4. Any additional information relevant to the care and treatment of our cat. Bored complaint has been filed!

Experiencia fantástica: They were so kind and took such good care of us and our beloved elderly cat. We were in a bad position with having to find a vet to help walk him over the rainbow bridge as our local vet was closed and we didn't want our boy to suffer. The vet and staff were patient and kind during a difficult time.

Experiencia negativa: Wow!! Almost zero empathy, very cold.. All about $$$ They would not do anything at all to help our cat untill we paid up front. I will give it to the Dr. Because she did try to work with us. Basically we were there for 5 hours while they tried to rack up an 8k bill.. Long story short our cat has been treated and doing great , and with our vet it was in the small hundreds. Don't want to say how inexpensive but trust me it's unbelievable.. So think twice b4 coming here. Maybe if they practiced fair treatment and learned how to communicate without trying to scare you they would have more fans.. Remember, People go to you for an emergency,, they need guidance... Not robbery

Experiencia negativa: Do not go there. HORRIBLE EXPERIENCE. They tried to SCARE me into spending more money! Who has 8000 dollars in their pocket. They gave me pamphlets for help but also said that he needed surgery in 2hrs. Or he would not make it. I spent $385.00 and got nothing but fear and wasted time. His precious painfully time. Long story short,I got someone to help me and he is fine. He did not get his surgery in two hrs. And he was fine. Just one of their scare tactics. Anyway, please don't go there for your pets and your own sake.I could not eat or sleep for ,2 days thanks to them. When I remember things that they said I feel sick to my stomach.Either I paid them 8000.00 RIHHT THEN, or they would not help him

Experiencia fantástica: When our senior cat had blood in his stool and started throwing up, no vets in town were available to take him in, but Michael with Southern Arizona reassured us that they could get him in and took all our info over the phone for a quicker check in after the hour long drive. Experiencia fantástica: The people who work here are some of the most compassionate, helpful, and inspiring beings this planet needs. They helped my Frizzle girl (6 mo orange tabby) who I was afraid for because she was throwing up. I live paycheck to paycheck, and they took the time to help me find resources so that I could help my baby get the x-rays and tests she needed. She had a linear foreign body obstruction and needed surgery ASAP. They didnt do the surgery but they gave me my options for Frizzle and provided compassion and care. Frizzle ended up getting the surgery she needed and is now recovering at home safe with us and her brother Fred. Also, a HUGE thank you to Michael and Dr. Chantelle, you guys made the reality of Frizzle being safe and alive possible along with HEART, she is my everything, I will never begin to know how to express the kind of greatfulness and thankfulness I feel towards your whole center and the kind hard working people who make it possible. THANK YOU

Experiencia negativa: I (the daughter) just wanted to take the time to remind the staff and doctors here that it's now been over 6 months since our beloved Dewey was laid to rest at this horrible place. Dewey was a cancer patient of Dr. Klein and was loved by anyone that she came in contact with. She did not deserve her last moments on this earth to forever be scared by the absolute horrible treatment this staff displayed that evening. This night has forever scared our family and reminds us every single day how much we never want to step foot in another SAV clinic again. The disgusting lack of care or concern for her or any questions we had was just plain wrong and our family and her Dad (Shawn K) have not forgotten and probably never will. May what goes around comes around to this place and the horrible staff. Don't even try and pretend you guys cared we asked for oncology to give her a checkup and they declined multiple times telling us to see a regular vet which we did and alot of good that did she had to suffer with cancer for months and no vet could figure it out until we rushed her across town to another ER that they told us the cancer was all over her body. In other words complete incompetence on all levels from this company! Thanks again we will keep reminding people of how we were treated by your staff and hope no one endures what we went through.

No one was pushy to do over extravagant care and talked me through what was needed.

Experiencia fantástica: We have taken several of our cats here, both emergency and internal medicine. They always get the best of care and everyone is so nice. But what I really want to tell you about is our cat, Henry. Henry was only 8 but he had bad kidneys from being poisoned by a lily when he was 2. We managed him for several years but a few weeks ago he started going down hill. He stopped eating and we headed for the ER. Although they thought they could bring him back, his kidneys shut completely down. They allowed us to stay with him for nearly 12 hours in a private room before he let us know it was time for him to pass. I have never seen a vet as kind and compassionate as Dr. Gordon. The entire team, both doctors, techs, and front desk were so kind to us...everyone kept checking on us while we were spending time with Henry before he left us. This is the only vet I will ever take my cats to for emergencies (and hope that Dr. Gordon is there) and for Internal Medicine, Dr. Bachman. Thanks to each and EVERYONE of you. You are all Angels! (Henry is the kitty laying down in the picture...he has passed. The kitty sitting up is Buddy and he is a liver shunt patient of Dr. Bachman's and is doing very well). Thank you all again! Denise & Don Ross!

Experiencia negativa: Told us our pet should go without antibiotics for one day in the middle of a course because the doctor was not going to come in for another 3 days and so she could not send the prescription to the local pharmacy. The only alternative was to come in and pay another $175 visit fee plus medicine fee to get a refill

We’re sorry you were disappointed with your experience. We understand how important it is to ensure your pet gets the necessary medication. However, we do have to follow our policies regarding prescription refills. Please feel free to reach out if you'd like to discuss this further.

Experiencia positiva: Firstly, the vet herself was phenomenal when we were making the decision to let our sick dog of almost 12 years go. She kept us well educated and gave realistic expectations. We came home to our dog seizing and immediately took him to the vet, after their efforts to prevent any further suffering, we had to put him down, it was suspected given his age it could've been an internal tumor unable to be seen on scans. However, I want it known that when the initial questions were asked by the tech we told them how he's never had seizures, not on medications, not diabetic, no plants in our home, the tech asked if there's anything else? And we said no not that we can think of. Given his age he'd become very picky about his eating times, he's not an over feeder so we always keep his food and water full to the brim because he ate whenever he pleased. And when she came in next we remembered when he was 6 months old as a pound rescue he did have kennel cough, just incase that was important. And she said, "Does he have it now? Because that's obviously something you should've already said to us." Large roll of the eyes and she gave us the most disgusting attitude, lack of empathy for the gravity of the situation and our minds trying to think a mile a minute for our dog. I clapped back at her with, "this is a very intense situation and your attitude is unnecessary". After that initial moment she was on her best behavior. Very shallow empathy and judgement from the female tech that was on duty that night. Everyone else was phenomenal. She showed zero professionalism until she was checked.

Experiencia fantástica: I’ve had two experiences here. One where I lost my beloved cat to a blood clot. The staff was supportive and helped us make informed decisions and put our boy to rest. The second one was a scare with our dog. The vet, Dr. Simpson, was amazing. Her bedside manner and ability to be transparent on treatment was incredible. She was kind and I felt like I was talking to a real person with empathy that listened to me. 100000/10 doctor. The supporting staff was excellent and took me in as soon as they were able. Despite a busy day for the staff, I still felt cared for and I felt like my animal was a priority. The big mystery scare ended up being a very treatable UTI but the staff here took all the precautions to help identify what was going on. The fees were clear and while not cheap, it was not unreasonably expensive for multiple tests and scans at an emergency location. When your animal is sick or something happens that you need to take you pet to an emergency clinic, I’d say this staff does their best to make it the least painful experience possible.

Thank you for sharing both of your experiences with us, Alana. We’re so sorry for your loss but are glad we could be there for you during such a difficult time. Experiencia fantástica: We had the unfortunate displeasure of having to put down my friend’s sister’s dog who passed away unexpectedly and we were scrambling to settle her affairs, one of which was her 16 year old only “child”. :( Given we were from out of state with no proof of ownership nor documentation from her sister, we understandably had difficulty finding a vet that would help us. But S. AZ Vet Specialty, Michael especially, understood our situation and helped us through the ordeal with compassion and much appreciated efficiency. For the brief time we spent in the lobby, it was clear that the customers value this place and the atmosphere was more like a friendly get-together than a doctor’s office. Thank you all very much for making a terrible moment more bearable.

Very transparent about costs and details upfront, which is also a plus. __Update__ Another friend has passed, this time at home in his sleep, thankfully. Experiencia positiva: This place was a lifesaver. Dr. Gordon was amazing, gentle and so compassionate. She explained everything to us and took interest in our fur baby. She is why I gave it 4 stars. The downside was that our price changed four times while we were waiting to be seen. It was very frustrating. Also, the check out person Michael appeared very rude to us with his tone and body language. Luckily we didn’t meet with him until we were leaving otherwise the rating would have been low.
