Experiencia fantástica: We were concerned that we were going to have to put down our sweet 12 year old Cockapoo. We weren’t happy with our regular vet, so we sought a second opinion. Dr. Van House did a thorough clinical examination and the minimal amount of testing (ultrasound, UA, bloodwork) to rule out cancer, stones, etc. In the end, it was a nasty UTI with lots of inflammation. A specific antibiotic that penetrates deeper into the bladder walls was prescribed along with an anti-inflammatory. Within 4 days she was acting like the dog we knew. I completely trusted their advice and I’m happy to report our dog is doing well! Very professional staff!

Experiencia fantástica: My dog came in for a mass on his throat, it’s a hard enough situation in the moment I think I might have given the people here the cold shoulder but I’m just dealing with the emotions that come with finding these things out. Reviewing his post exam paperwork has me in tears, it was noted “bright, alert, and friendly - LOVES attention and turkey” I’m so happy other people can see how sweet my boy is even if it was for a short time. Experiencia fantástica: We went for an oncology consultation. Our Chocolate Labrador Retriever had several cancerous tumors removed over the summer and fall. He had a tumor removed from his mouth which required removal of several teeth and about a quarter of his upper palate. We were seeking advice on follow-on treatments. We were offered two courses of action, quarterly screening or chemotherapy. We opted for screening. The Oncologist and Veterinarian Technician were polite and professional. They outlined the pros and cons of each treatment option.

Experiencia fantástica: Terrific experience at Southern Colorado! The atmosphere is calm and they quickly place you in a room to make the whole process as stress free as possible for my dog. Dr. Wood was patient, kind, and took the time to answer any and all questions. She was also very thorough and gave my pup the best care possible. When you are not sure what is wrong with your dog, it is scary, but Southern Colorado really helped ease anxiety and make sure my dog received the best care.

Experiencia fantástica: Good appointment with Dr. Keith. Friendly & knowledgeable. Very respectful and responsive. Quick to provide follow up. Update (3 weeks later): I can’t say enough good things about this practice! My 14 y.o. dog was diagnosed with diabetes by my primary vet in early November. Tried to manage it through my primary vet. It did not go well. Diabetes is a disease that is way beyond the scope of most primary/general vets! It takes someone who knows the disease and all of its quirks (there are many!). These guys know their stuff! We are still working on figuring out his insulin dose, but getting closer. The Internal Medicine department at SCVIM is beyond attentive! I get frequent check-in calls, even on Sundays! I even got one on Christmas Day. I have actually talked to a veterinarian more than once about how things are going. They have made adjustments to his insulin without me having to bring him into their office. Yes, my initial visit was expensive, but I have gotten more than my money’s worth from them since. Given how stressful figuring out diabetes is, the follow up/support they have provided us helps with my peace of mind. Hoping we find the right insulin dose soon (getting closer). In the meantime, I know I will have amazing support from SCVIM! Thank you so much!

Experiencia fantástica: If you are in the unfortunate position to need their expertise and competence you will be in excellent hands. The compassion and care is beyond measure. All personnel, the front desk staff, vet technicians, nurses and veterinary doctors, were exceptional at the service they provided. Our dog needed surgery and the confidence in the competency of the veterinary staff instilled in us the ability to easily make the decision knowing he was in their hands. Highly recommend.

Experiencia negativa: First off the good. I've seen Dr. Keith in internal medicine several times for both our cat and dogs. She is great. Now the reason for two stars. I don't know what the heck is going on with support staff there. The customer service is outrageously bad. Dr. Keith had said I could call with follow-up questions to our cat's appointment. I talked directly to someone at front desk. I emailed the front desk. I left a message in voicemail for Dr. Keith's staff. And yet no one over the course of a week called me back, or got in touch with me through any type of channel. Absolutely atrocious customer service and support staff. Do better.

Experiencia fantástica: Dr McReynolds was fantastic and one of the most thoughtful, and insightful veterinarians we have ever met! His approach to our Goldendoodle’s issues was refreshing and extremely thorough. He conducted an ultrasound immediately, did blood tests, all without having to schedule them sometime downstream and provided us the results once they were completed. Another example of the way he conducts business, all focused on our dog and us. There is no question that we will continue to see him, as required, once we sort out what’s going on with our dog. I can’t say enough good things about Dr McReynolds, but if you need an internal medicine vet you only have one choice as far as I am concerned, Dr McReynolds!!

Experiencia fantástica: We have had excellent and timely service from Dr. Sztukowski and the staff here. Our dog Bow was diagnosed with melanoma on his gums when he was 10.5 years old. After that, he needed chemotherapy and immunotherapy as well as various tests along the way. He lived another 3 years due to the exceptional support from Dr. Stu and the staff here.

Experiencia negativa: Never in my life have I ever felt so much pressure to put my pup down as I did this last week. I felt like my pups care was driven by dollar signs and false reports. I decided to bring her home and to my surprise she’s eating just fine when I was told she wasn’t. She hasn’t thrown up once when I was told she was throwing up all liquids and foods. She hasn’t coughed up anything when I was told that’s what she was doing. She’s mobile when I was told she wasn’t. She’s using the bathroom normally when I was told she wasn’t. Thank God I listened to my pup and brought her home and didn’t cave to their countless obnoxious pushes to “humanely euthanize” her. $10,000 in care and I now wondering how much of On me it was necessary. We feel like we were lied to. The prices for care were absurd and ridiculous. $176 bucks for oxygen each day mind you it’s nothing significant it’s like turning on a cpap machine. $97 bucks for 0.7 mg of Carprofen (only one dose was given to her) when I can order 100 mg and 100 tablets from chewy.com for $31.20. She only needs 2mg per pound. My 5 lbs dog needs to 10 mg. They legitimately increase their prices 100 fold if not more. I wonder how many other things on the 25 pages of the invoice are inflated beyond what’s ethical or what is on there that’s not needed. Then the front office staff, my goodness RUDE and unprofessional come to mind. The tone of their voices, the belittling and pretentious behavior was outrageous. Listen, no one in those situations needs to have their sarcasm and demeanor spewed at them the way they so easily spit their venom. Honestly I pray no one has to come here. It’s a darn shame. The 24 hour hospital next to them are gems.

Experiencia negativa: Highly disappointed in the care we received from oncology here. After trying to find the best options to treat my Charlie with metastatic cancer we decided to continue his treatment here following diagnosis and start of oral chemo in another state. Ultimately on my sweet Charlie’s 2nd round of IV chemo he went downhill pretty quickly. He was administered chemo Thursday and we were told everything was looking great. Unfortunately his loss of appetite Friday didn’t seem too concerning as we had dealt with this before. The team refilled his anti nausea meds to in anticipation of this. By Saturday night he began pooping blood pretty uncontrollably. We took him to the ER connected to the building and kept him there until Monday awaiting the onc team to give us their opinions on his care. His ICU team agreed with this plan to keep him until his treatment team could assess him and give us their advice. I had reached out Saturday via text updating them about his decline and informing them we were heading to the ER. Unfortunately by that Monday morning I was informed Dr. Stu wouldn’t be in and as they hadn’t been able to control the bleeding all weekend and my poor baby was dying in that ICU with very minimal attention being paid to him we made the decision to bring him home to say goodbye. This was ultimately the best decision as he was barley able to walk and could not even keep water down. After all of that I assumed we would hear from his treating oncology team immediately on Tuesday when they were back at work. By lunch when we hadn’t heard I called and left a voicemail the vet tech returned, however I didn’t receive a call back from Dr. Stu until 6pm Tuesday night, more than 24 hours after we had to say goodbye to Charlie. I still haven’t gotten any explanation about what happened but I suppose nothing can take back the events of that weekend. It makes me sick to think about those days and all the trust, money and care I put into my Charlie’s treatment for his oncology team to leave us abandoned in a medical crisis following their administration of chemo. I tried to do my best research and find the best team for my Charlie and I think it’s important people know this is how we were treated after investing so much in his care and treatment. Edit after their response: Their team was not there for us that Monday as Charlie was dying and we were left entirely abandoned. Disappointed that they would lie about this. As I stated I called their office first and actually called twice attempting to speak to Dr. Stu. They did not reach out to me first. After missing her twice I was upset and sick with the treatment team to follow up again

Experiencia fantástica: Been a client for over 10 years and 6 dog’s lives. They have treated cancers to diabetes successfully with nutrition, drug therapy and knowledge. This round for my current shitzue who gets recurring bladder stones, they were booked out a week to see her. Thankful to regular vet getting her in for abx to treat uti. Front desk handled the issue very well working my dog into a cancellation slot in order to get ultrasound done for pre surgery records. Now they doing the same for the hydropulsion surgery.

Experiencia fantástica: My cat was transferred to the service after he was stabilized by the ER. They took their time to explain to me what they believed was going on. Offered extra screenings to rule out any other issues. My cat is home recovering well and actually making a meow sound for the first time in a year. I’m so grateful. Experiencia fantástica: We had to admit our dog and in the end say goodbye to her. The staff, particularly Dr. McReynolds was so kind. He over explained everything and did not pressure us one way or the other through the whole time. He gave us information and let us make our own decisions. He was prompt with his phone calls and was there when we needed. Afterwards he sent a personalized card to us that meant so much.

Experiencia negativa: They were good at first and helped my dog with his diabetes diagnosis in the beginning after paying $6000+. When they first sent me home with him, they gave me the wrong insulin dosage for him - told me he only needed one unit when he needed TEN units. Even my paperwork had 1 unit on it so it was an apparent typo. I let this go as I know accidents can happen. However, after less than a month, they stopped being proactive and reaching out to me about my dog. I would call/text and sometimes not get a response. We would show up to the office to let them know if my dog was having issues and they would say the vet would reach out but they never did. I will be looking for a new vet that hopefully will care about my dog going forward.

Experiencia fantástica: Really great care of our Tamaskan Wolfdog Teyla. She passed late last year and I held off for a long time to do this. We she first was discovered with cancer and lost her leg vets told us she wouldn't survive long. These guys did so much to help her and gave our family so much more quality time with her. The staff was always friendly, understanding, and caring. Spaces were always clean too. Teyla was my first dog and did so much for me. It was nice to have a vet that was honest and helped her. They warned us of the risks every step of the way. Thank you to everyone there who helped her.

Experiencia positiva: The doctors and technicians have been wonderful to my pup and I as we underwent the AUL diagnosis and euthanization after we tried everything. My one complaint is to not offer the dog hair removal at the clinic and pay to have the hair removed by the crematorium. It wasn't in the bag with his urn when I picked it up and went back in to get it. I was told it may have gone home with a different family but I found out today they forgot to do it entirely. My grief has already consumed me and this just made my heart sink even deeper. Please, please, please don't let this happen to another grieving pet parent.

Experiencia fantástica: An excellent experience with Internal Medicine. Dr Keith, Techs Michelle and Heather, and reception staff are exceptional. Reception kindly kept in contact for appt cancellation list and got me in 1 month early, techs promptly answered emails and tel calls before and after appt, and Dr Keith always kind, patient, explains illness, and thoughtfully answers questions. In his senior years (age 14 w/ Cushings), Davey (NMDR fka Mr Noodle) is in good hands. This vet team are my heros!

Experiencia negativa: I'm writing this review to warn other cat owners about unnecessary procedures and concerning practices I experienced with Dr. Amelia Keith at Southern Colorado Veterinary Internal Medicine. What should have been treatment for my cat’s sudden acute vomiting turned into high-pressure sales tactics for expensive, potentially dangerous procedures. What Happened: My cat developed vomiting after 9 days on UTI antibiotics. When I brought her in, Dr. Keith proposed a treatment plan costing $4,700-$9,000 that included multiple unnecessary procedures for a dehydrated, vomiting cat. Major Red Flags: Inconsistent Testing Approach • Initially Dr Keith said she'd test for pancreatitis and urinalysis • Actually tested kidney values and potassium instead • Changed antibiotics without proper testing • Later insisted on the same tests she previously said weren't needed • When I asked if test results would change treatment, she admitted they wouldn't Inappropriate Procedure Recommendations: • Wanted to surgically insert a feeding tube into a cat vomiting every few hours. When I asked what happens if a cat with a feeding tube vomits, she admitted it could become dislodged - a potentially fatal complication. • Recommended endoscopy requiring anesthesia on an extremely dehydrated, vomiting cat instead of addressing the acute symptoms first. High-Pressure Hospitalization Tactics: • Insisted on mandatory overnight hospitalization for "several days" • Refused day-only hospitalization despite my ability to provide home care • Used fear tactics: "If you don't hospitalize RIGHT NOW, we can't help later without expensive ER visit" • Became visibly upset when I questioned the necessity The Reality: When I insisted we focus on the immediate issues (dehydration and vomiting) rather than all the expensive procedures, we settled on subcutaneous fluids and Cerenia injections. My cat recovered completely within 36 hours at home - no surgery, no hospitalization, no feeding tube out the side of my her neck. The symptoms that supposedly required $4,700-$9,000 in procedures resolved with home supportive care (Attached it their estimate for what they wanted to do). After my cat's successful recovery, I sought a second opinion about all the other procedures that had been recommended. Unprofessional Response to Second Opinion: When I informed them of my second opinion, they called to say they would no longer treat my cat and refused to provide me with her prescriptions. When I asked, "Are you saying you don't want to treat my cat because I got a second opinion?" the staff member said "I didn't want to put it that way, but..." - essentially confirming they were retaliating for me seeking another opinion. Bottom Line: Dr Keith appeared more focused on maximizing revenue than providing appropriate care. The dangerous procedures recommended for my acutely ill cat, combined with high-pressure tactics and retaliation for seeking a second opinion, suggest this practice prioritizes profit over patient welfare. I would seek care elsewhere. At least, I'd get a second opinion before agreeing to any expensive procedures, and be prepared for potential retaliation for doing so.

Experiencia fantástica: My dog has hated the vet his entire life, he shakes and cries anytime he has to go, but not here. Ever since we have been coming here he actually gets excited to come inside. The techs know his name and he’s happy to see everyone. Everyone here is kind and takes care to make sure you understand your options and exactly what is happening with your pet’s health. Your pets are loved here. Can’t recommend them enough.

Experiencia fantástica: I had a very sick dog that was seen here. He had to spend a couple of days in puppy ICU. Dr. McReynolds was so caring and honest about my dogs situation. Every person I interacted with was so caring and I know that my dog was will taken care of during his stay there. I appreciate the upfront nature of the costs. I hope the no one finds themselves in the situation I was in, but if you do, I highly recommend this clinic.

Experiencia fantástica: So far we've had multiple appointments to figure out what is going on with our six year old GSD (7 in July). We have found out that he has renal carcinoma and we went forward with having a CT scan and we now have a surgery consult on Tuesday. So far we have been very appreciative of the kindness and competency of all of the doctors, nurses and staff. We are confident that we are getting the best possible treatment for our boy as we can, and we would highly recommend them to others. Edit to add: We have had such great experiences in having our GSD Hank diagnosed and treated for renal carcinoma here. We had an ultrasound, X-rays, and a CT scan done, blood and urine tests too. We felt VERY confident after meeting with Dr Morgan for the pre-surgery consult and she did a fantastic job in removing the affected kidney and tumor. The whole staff took very good care of him while he was there. We are now seeing Dr Stu for chemotherapy and she has been simply fantastic also. Both doctors have been very professional and are well experienced, yet personable and easy to talk to. They don't sugar coat anything, but they presented the facts in a manner that allowed for us to feel we were not being pressured towards any particular form of treatment or direction. They enabled us to make the best informed decisions we could for our family. All of the nurses we've encountered in our many visits to date have been wonderful, too. They're kind to the animals there and put us at ease with their confidence and friendly mannerisms. Even the receptionist staff has been great. In calling to make appointments, or to ask questions, and in paying attention checkout. Our Hank's personality undergoes a transformation when we arrive at the clinic. He gets a bit over the top in his exuberance from anxiety and excitement. He gets loud and he can drag us and the nurses around a little bit in all of this. I know he scares some people because of this and his size combined. But never once have we been made to feel like we are irritating to the staff there because of this. They're always good at making us feel welcome. We wholeheartedly would recommend anyone to Southern Colorado Veterinary Internal Medicine and Oncology for all of these reasons. They're simply outstanding!

Experiencia fantástica: Having a sick or injured dog that you love is one of the hardest things to face. To be able to go to a clinic where the doctor and nurses will sit and listen and thoroughly explain everything to you is so helpful when you are going through difficult times with your pets. This clinic is EXACTLY that. Our nurse Cassie and Mae (sp?) were absolutely wonderful. Both thoroughly explained the medications that they were sending me home with to give to my dog and went over the correct dosage and what to do and or not to do. Dr Van House was wonderful. She sat and went over everything with me and thoroughly explained the process of what was going to take place. I love that they are not only upfront and honest with what we are facing but they are very compassionate. You can see everyone in that office truly cares for pets and their owners that walk into their clinic. I would highly recommend their clinic to anyone.

Experiencia fantástica: Dr. Keira Sztukowski was wonderful and informative. She explained where we were in our dog's cancer process and provided us all the options to move forward. This included a cost scale with the pros and cons for each option. The best part is she told us that our dog's quality of life was her first priority. Knowing that her recommendations would be in our dog's best interest and not just because we weren't ready to say goodbye was a huge relief. Once the chosen procedure was done she thoroughly explained what the testing told her and what it means for our dog. We are still waiting for some results and options to move forward. I trust her to give us honest continuing information and recommendations.

Experiencia fantástica: We checked into the ER with our dog at 3:15 am. He was stabilized, tested, diagnosed, and in surgery less than 12 hours later with a gallbladder about to burst.. Doctors and staff talked to us on a daily basis. We were able to spend cuddle time each day with our pet (in a soft blanket). Followup was outstanding - adjusting meds, adapting diet, sitting down on a Saturday afternoon to answer a few more questions. And even....two cups freshly brewed coffee hand delivered while we waited in that small examining room that first stressful night. Bravo to the entire Southern Colorado staff!

On the human side, the daily follow-up calls with Dr. McReynolds are invaluable, not to mention how easy & comforting it was to visit Smokey while he’s being cared for. Your visitation rooms are the best, as are the staff’s ability to accommodate even the pickiest cats’ eating & potty requirements. Every update was full of vital information on his eating, elimination, levels being monitored & status, & his disposition. We recognize the work, kindness, documentation & care you put into our entire experience, whether from daily budget updates (thank you Heather) or the ICU staff that were clearly adored by Smokey during his traumatic event. Experiencia fantástica: Scamp was scheduled with Oncology for Friday, May 16. I was called back almost immediately for an opportunity to be seen on Monday, May 12, because of a cancellation. Scamp was seen by Dr. Beck Mayland. He explained lymphoma, treatments, and answered all of my questions. He emailed a comprehensive clinical summary, and called me on Wed with the cytology results, and ensured I understood the treatment plan going forward. I am very appreciative of the staff and care. Experiencia fantástica: This is the best internal medicine facility for animals that I have ever had the privilege of frequenting. My service dog, recently retired, was having liver issues. There's no greater fear to an owner than losing your dog early. Once I got to this Hospital they were super kind and loving with my dog. The ultrasound covered multiple organs and they showed me each image and explained them. Needless to say my service dog is doing much better. I have a great veterinarian where I live and they referred me to Southern Colorado Veterinary Internal Medicine and Oncology. The ER here has also seen my dog. They have taken amazing care of her and she's doing much better. Many kudos and a massive thank you to the outstanding staff!

Experiencia fantástica: SCVM is amazing. They saved my 10 year old cat’s life & I trust them wholeheartedly. They always have the animals best interest and they’re so kind and compassionate. Doctor Bangert is our hero and we love her dearly for how much she’s helped us over the last year and change with our boy Tucker. She preformed a lung lobectomy on him, and while I was very nervous, her and her team were incredible with how caring, knowledgeable and reassuring they were/are. They updated me every step of the way and kept in great contact. I never felt like I had to be the one to reach out to get answers. She went above and beyond to figure out what was going on with Tucker, and how to continue his care. She also always asks about how me and my family are doing, including our other pets, and chats with us. I never feel like I’m being rushed out of there. Everyone from the front desk staff to the techs and doctors are absolutely wonderful. & not that this part is a make or break, but I always thought it was so nice and thoughtful that they have snacks and drinks for you while you wait. 11/10 recommend them!

Experiencia fantástica: I’ve been taking my dogs here since I moved here 7 years ago. I trust them with my dog’s health and well being. I have multiple dogs and some with complex health issues. My most recent visit was with my little pom who has severe collapsed trachea. She was on deaths door 5 yrs ago but with medication she is doing well and stable. She’s not a good candidate for surgery so each day is a blessing. I also have a dog who had pancreatitis & anemia and with treatment she’s doing great. Without the help of Dr McReynolds I would have lost her years ago. The staff is amazing, friendly and knowledgeable. I’ve literally never had a bad experience here. Dogs live a short life so it’s important to me to keep them healthy for as long as possible so we can enjoy life together.

Experiencia fantástica: Let me start by saying I’m not a person who normally writes reviews, but I am someone who relies heavily on reviews before I give a place both my business and my trust. My dog, chance, has been seen here for 20+ visits over the course of about a year and a half after he was diagnosed with IMHA. Initially he was a perfectly healthy boy and he started acting very lethargic one day. He was taken to another emergency vet in the springs and we were devastated when the vet told us that we may have to euthanize due to how low his red blood cell count was from the disease. After a blood transfusion he was transferred from the emergency vet to SCVIM. The doctors are staff here assured us that imha was treatable and they have good results with the treatments. My wife and I went on an emotional roller coaster ride from a very COLD hearted ER clinic that basically told us his survival was unlikely to SCVIM staff who were extremely empathetic and professional. We had another emergency visit about 6 months to the Animal ER care facility that is attached to SCVIM. We were AGAIN were told our little doggo may have to be euthanized due to a possibility of liver failure or cancer. We were advised to immediately do imaging (ultrasound of liver and stomach) and biopsies to test. We paid over 2,000 dollars for this emergency visit for them to tell us he might just have a tooth infection… maybe it’s Standard operating procedure for emergency vets to tell you your dog is going to die and then they milk you for money with expensive procedures? Our experience at the animal Er Care is. 2/5 Our experience at SCVIM with Dr. McReynolds and all the nurses and staff is 5/5. Dr. McReynolds is a true professional in his field. He has an extremely methodical approach with any and all procedures with an unparalleled attentional to detail for your pup. He doesn’t recommend any bs expensive procedures you don’t need and he even recommends other avenues that can potentially save you money on prescriptions and procedures. I cannot express how grateful I am to have met the team at SCVIM. I trust them wholeheartedly with my little fur baby’s care.

After countless visits to other veterinarians where unnecessary tests were done, and no diagnosis was found, we were fortunate to find Dr. McReynolds. He and his team immediately stood out for their professionalism and genuine care. They went out of their way to ensure they only performed the most necessary procedures, taking into account everything we had already been through. Thanks to their expertise, they were able to save our 5-year-old dog when we were starting to lose hope. I can confidently say that without Dr. McReynolds and his team, our dog wouldn’t be here today. If you're considering taking your pet here, don't hesitate—just do it. Experiencia fantástica: We brought our critically ill dog, baby to the ER and internal medicine. The doctors and staff tried to save baby, but after three days, she had to be put down. Dr. Garcia was so caring as were the staff. They all went above and beyond and made our loss a little easier to deal with. They helped us place her remains in our truck for the ride back to Penrose. When I finished her final resting place, I opened the box and the had placed a blanket over baby and a toy under her paw. You guys are so caring to have done that. Experiencia fantástica: This clinic saved my dog's life! We got his lymphoma diagnosis in November and our vet said he only had a few months. He said chemo might give him a few more. We went to Southern Colorado without much hope, but they have been absolutely amazing from the first minute. Every conversation with Dr. Beck and the staff has been about Sam's comfort and quality of life in connection with giving him the best chance. Dr. Beck has emailed me back on a weekend evening to answer questions - amazing!!! Sam is now at the end of treatment, in remission, and feeling great! We know it's not forever, but he's happy and living his best life, and that's worth every penny!!

Experiencia fantástica: We have been going to SCVIM since October 2023 when our 1 year 4 month old schnoodle got very sick. She is now 2 years 7 months old and doing great. Dr. Miles and his staff have taken amazing care of Stella and shown us ongoing grace and kindness. We are there every 6 months or more, depending on how things are going for her. The staff always takes or returns our calls really fast and they are always patient. Dr. Miles, himself, calls us the day after our appointments to discuss lab results and review the plan going forward. We never feel rushed with anyone there. They genuinely show that they care for us and our little dogs.
