His surgery went well with no complications, and they let me know as soon as he was out. The Universal Cat Distribution System granted me a kitten and when she went into heat, I turned to Emancipet for an affordable spay procedure for her. My cat healed quickly, and got a clean bill of health on a return visit. Emancipet is a gem in our community. They allow us to keep our pets healthy without breaking the bank.

I had actually went to a mobile event at 6 am at the beginning of January but was unable to to get my 2 cats fixed that day due them meeting the limit they could do and i was able to get a voucher, which I am so thankful for. I scheduled both cat appointments online which was so nice instead of having to get up at 5 am and it was super easy. We arrived at 7:50 am and there was a long line of all sizes of cats and dogs. Once the door opened everything moved quickly, the staff is so efficient and on top of everything. The staff was very comfortable with all the animals and you can tell they have a passion for what they do.Thank you for all that you all do

The vet techs are incredibly kind, and the veterinarian (I wish I remembered her name!) was amazing — I couldn’t be more satisfied with the care my dog received. My dog had a lump removed from her tail, and we had to return the next day because she managed to get her stitches out even with her cone on. When we checked in, David at the front desk insisted that her cone must have been removed, saying there was “no way” she could reach her tail otherwise. His tone made me feel accused of lying, which was really uncomfortable, especially when I was already stressed and worried about my pup. Despite that interaction, I will absolutely continue using Emancipet and still recommend them — their medical staff is wonderful. I just hope David can improve his communication and maintain a more positive front-desk attitude moving forward.

The staff was so lovely and kind the vaccinations and the vet visit was affordable and I also got topical flea medication for an incredibly discounted price. These guys make it possible to adopt kitties when you don’t have a lot of money.

Experiencia fantástica: This is a truly amazing service for the community. It helps so many people to get the care their pet needs. My dachshund was treated here for heartworm, and they provided affordable heat worm pills for months to come. We have had 5 other pets fixed here with nothing but great results, no complications whatsoever. With microchipping, heartworm prevention, and yearly vaccines, we were looking at over 1k at a regular vet and only paid a fraction of the price here. That does not even scratch the surface of what is done here and the benefits.

When I arrived there was already so many people lining up. Once they opened they took all my information and told me that I would have to wait for one hour before they could see my dog. After waiting that hour they asked me what was the situation and then told me that they couldn’t help in there. They send me to another clinic that it supposed to be low cost and it wasn’t low cost. Anyways, the should check if they are able to attend your pets at check in time before having you waited for a long time just to say that they can’t help

Get the wait list wait 2 hours ask what the wait is going to be, they said we're on lunch right now, another 30 min goes by and ask how much longer they say 20 min. This is bs, I understand you're a cheap very alternative, but does EVERYONE need to go on lunch at the same time! Update received a call from Emancipet at 3pm. But I had already left, frustrated, and annoyed. Suggestion... Try another location or try Vanguard mobile vet.

Though I do wish that this was an online system so that we don't have to line up in person. It would be a lot easier since my cats don't like to be confined for long.

Experiencia positiva: Great facility for affordable pet care but if you can afford to wait and save for a different vet I would definitely recommend it, incredibly high stress situation for your animal as the lobby is packed and there isn’t separation between dogs and cats; obviously the clinic cannot pick wether or not a dog owner will have the right resources for their reactive animal but being more sat than a few feet from them would be nice. I’m sure most puppies or dogs won’t mind but if you have a feline companion maybe research some other affordable options in Austin the place where we adopted most of our animals(Williamson county shelter) spays and neuters in house before adoption and has free adoption days; that is truly the least stressful and most affordable option

Experiencia fantástica: I brought my gand dog in for spay surgery. The pain meds they prescribed caused one of our previous dogs to suffer serious health complications. We called to request different pain meds and the vet quickly responded with prescribing one we felt was better for our pup. We appreciate the small clean incision, smooth recovery and veterinary response to our concerns.

The vet here was easily able to get her out of the carrier and gave her the shot without her even noticing! Same with the kittens we brought here, they are amazing at keeping pets distracted. Experiencia fantástica: They are very caring about the welfare of the animals. My dog, weighs 50 pounds was still very drowsy when I went to pick her up from being spayed. So much so that one of the women had to pick her up off the ground and carry her to my car. Nothing like a “wet noodle” of a dog. Her surgery went very well and she’s feeling much better this morning.

Experiencia negativa: Usually not one to be a Karen about anything at all honestly but I truly had a horrible experience at this location today. I brought my cat for a nail trim and asked if they had time. I've been to this emancipet several times before and only had very good experiences, the techs always clip my fur babys nails quickly with no issues. We waited an hour which was what we were told it would be, but when we did get seen the male vet tech was pretty rude and dismissive. when I asked about getting my cats shots updated in addition to the nail trim, he just said "well i don't have his records" -- okay, I think it would make more sense to give me more information about that process or how to send my cats records to get his shots done later, but hey i get it, it seems like a tough job and its the end of the day. I am generally very empathetic to any client facing workers wherever i go. I can get his shots updated at the regular vet, no biggie. But then in the office this tech totally manhandled my cat and grabbed the back of his neck in a way that was obviously triggering to him. I said i could hold my cat if that would help, so that he wouldn't be so resistant, and the tech says that's a liability issue, do you want us to stop? I said okay I understand the liability issue and that i can't hold him while you do it, but I think my cat really doesn't like the way you are holding his neck. The tech said "I'm not scruffing him, do you want us to stop." I never said he was scruffing him BTW, just that my cat was obviously scared! I said okay, let's try to get through it but the tech did not adjust the way he was holding my cat down at all so my cat started hissing and I said okay, let's stop now! I was still going to pay and thought they could at least tell me which nails they had trimmed, but the tech just said "okay yall can leave now!" Once we were out in the hallway he sarcastically shouted "y'all have a good one!" The Other tech who had been assisting the male tech looked like she was also uncomfortable. Now I feel uncomfortable to return to this emancipet which sucks because I AM an individual with low income who needs affordable vet services. It's really special when people make the decision to work in services for low income/at risk populations and then choose to act like this. I think a lot of things about this situation were really weird and crappy. Obviously it's disappointing to put my cat through the car ride and the wait and then not be able to get a basic service completed that my cat normally has no issues with. My cat has never reacted like this for a nail trim and I also have not ever seen any techs hold any of my animals like this while trimming their nails at any clinic. It seems like he could have easily tried repositioning my cat and I'm genuinely concerned that the way he was holding my animal was hurting him. And it seems like a pretty alarming display of lack of empathy or compassion for the animal on the vet techs part. His response to me telling him the way he was holding my cat was triggering him, was just to continue restraining him in the same way. I was with a friend who came back with us and also found the techs behavior weird and alarming. I walked away feeling so bad for making my poor cat sit in an office for an hour and go through that. He could have explained why he was continuing to hold my cat that way or given my cat a moment to calm down. The service was rushed, he didn't propose ANY alternative to help my cat get through the procedure other than holding his neck down tightly. The whole thing felt incredibly weird and bad! Emancipet seems like a busy and challenging environment. As a social worker, I know that working in community services is often difficult and doesnt pay enough, but it also is a responsibility that you take on when you make the CHOICE to work at a place that provides a crucial public service like Emancipet does. If you can't handle the heat without causing harm or being rude to your clients, you absolutely need to get out of the proverbial kitchen.

Experiencia positiva: Our dog had a mass removal surgery here to remove a mammary tumor and a small tumor on her eyelid. It was $500 plus $125 to send it off for pathology. Our regular vet quoted us $2-4k for the surgery, so this was much cheaper. She had a number of complications: they had to put her back under soon after the procedure to remove blood clots and stop the bleeding, and we had to go back for 2 rechecks and get additional pain meds and antibiotics (which they told us the wrong dosage on originally). While it's been a difficult couple of weeks post surgery, we're glad the tumor is out, we know more about it, and they did it at a reasonable cost.

Experiencia fantástica: My 8 year old Great Pyrenees had a dental cleaning with Emancipet, and the experience couldn’t have been more seamless. The staff were so nice, and the clinic is spotless. Her check in was super quick, and they gave me a good heads up when she was done and what time to pick her up. You cannot beat the cost of these services either, and I’d recommend them to any pet owner.

Experiencia fantástica: Low cost vet that does great work. BE WARNED YOU WILL HAVE A 3 HOUR WAIT! There are no outlets to charge your phone if you choose to sit and wait the 3 hours like I did with your dog. You will be staring at walls and hoping no one fights with your dog and vice versa. They do offer a service to contact your phone and let you know they are ready for ya, but I think it’s important enough to just sit and wait for your dog to get seen asap waiting in the lobby.

Walter's eyes are so much better now (you can't even tell he had surgery on them) and he hasn't had any more issues with eye infections/redness/pain like he had before the surgery. He can see clearly now and his quality of life is so much better. Thank you Dr. Palvino and Emancipet!

Experiencia negativa: I tried to take in my dog for her yearly vaccination but have changed locations from last year. My dog was not feeling 100% the previous day and had thrown up some water in the morning. When I checked in at the front desk they asked about her health to which I provided the above details. They told me I can wait in line for 3 hours due too many patients ahead of me. Fast-forward to when they could let me start signing paper work, they ask the same questions as before and I respond with the same details. But now I am informed that this clinic does not service pets with pre-existing abnormalities such as vomiting or injuries. So I ask for any information on the staff that has caused me to delay my pet's ability to be seen by a vet or practiced technician. I do not have all the time in the world and missing most of my day is very inconveniencing especially for my afflicted pet. But now I am stonewalled by the staff saying "There is no active manager on shift as they are on vacation. We do not feel safe reporting our coworkers names to unaffiliated people. Any details you wish to learn can be found online." I have not been so rudely dismissed by staff in a few years let alone be treated like I am a threat to an establishments safety. This practice of non-veterinary / non-responsible policies will endanger future pets from receiving life saving care but I guess having less hassles is more important for staff when their managers are away.

The front people at the counter or the ones that give you back your animals do a poor job of explaining the procedure or the after car. It is across the board at the Surgery center, Norwood center and several mobile clinics. Again the vets does good work you just don't get to talk to them.

Experiencia fantástica: I was super surprised at how a non profit was so efficient. My two cats had to be neutered, brothers, Thor and Loki. Emails and texts were sent to prep you for the process. Once there it was a very easy process for drop off and then pick up later that day.

Experiencia fantástica: I took my new 4 month old Boston Terrier puppy to the VERY NICE Norwood Emancipet office for her 2nd set of puppy shots, her rabies vaccine, microchip, and Home Again registration information. The staff was incredibly friendly, professional, and it is very clear they LOVE working with our pets. The vaccine clinic is first-come-first serve and I was the second person there when they opened. I only waited about 5 minutes before I was called back and everything took less than 10 minutes to complete and check out. When I was done, the clinic was much busier but the staff kept everyone organized, it was not chaotic and they continued to see people’s pets quickly, deliver the services they needed in a very organized manner without the appearance that the vets or vet techs were paying any pet less attention or rushing services in the exam rooms. Everyone was getting all the time they needed for services, instruction and answers to any questions they might have. Emancipet offers immunizations, flea, tick, parasite, and heart worm preventions at prices that are more than reasonable and much more affordable than most veterinary offices. It’s important to remember that Emancipet, is a non-profit veterinary care provider in Austin, Texas, and is funded by donations, grants, and support from businesses and community organizations. I was so impressed by how inexpensive my visit was I donated an extra $50 and still paid less than I would have at a traditional veterinarian’s office. Emancipet does not provide services for sick or injured pets. That is not their mission. They are there to ensure your pets are properly protected from disease, parasites and other issues like heart worms. Emancipet also has a spay and neuter clinic that is professional, trusted and inexpensive. I have had ALL of my pets over the years spayed and neutered at Emancipet and have had never had a problem. They are very caring and take exceptional care of your pet while in their care. However visits for the spay and neuter clinic must be made in advance by calling that department and scheduling an appointment. This must be done because there is a limited number of surgical appointments available each day. I am having my 4 month old puppy spayed on February 11th. When you come for the procedure, they begin pet intake at 8:00 am, and will contact you once your pet is finished, recovered and ready to return home. Final pick ups for the day is usually 5:30 pm. Although I’ve never had to wait that long for any of my pets to be ready for pick up. Just don’t worry if it does take all day. They are providing constant monitoring and care for your pet until they are quite certain your pet is safe, comfortable and ready to go home. Once last thing I will say about my experiences with Emancipet is that in coordination with Travis County grants and donations, they do have low cost/free spay, neuter, and immunization mobile clinic services for residents of Travis County who might not have the funds to pay even the very reasonable costs at the regular clinics. If you look online, you will find dates and locations of where the Emancipet mobile clinics will be set up. I know many people who have taken advantage of this very generous program. There are a couple of caveats as the free service is so popular. Even though they begin registration at the mobile clinic at 9:00AM, it is recommended that you arrive at the site where the mobile clinic and staff will be arriving quite a few hours before registration time. Especially if you’re getting your pet spayed or neutered. As this is a mobile clinic there is a very limited number of spots available for any day’s free surgical services. If you have larger dogs, or multiple pets, you need to be in line especially early as space for larger pets is very limited. They can only take a certain number of dogs and cats divided into size categories. They also have immunization services at the mobile clinics on those days as well. You pay what can, if anything. If you can’t pay, that’s okay. If turned away. You will get a voucher.

Experiencia fantástica: We came in about 40 min til closing and waited only about 1 hour. So the staff all waited for us to be seen. Which means they were all working later for us. They were all very kind as we stayed 40 min after closing. From front desk staff, to techs to the Doctor, they were soooo kind and gracious! Dr Frey is seriously a gem! She was so caring and compassionate to us and answered all of our many questions and sooo kind to our dog. Our dog got 3 shots and she didn’t even flinch! The doctor did such an amazing job!!! So thankful for Emancipet and the prices they provide for Austinites!!! Huge blessing!

Experiencia negativa: My cat got neutered today. He was given back to me soaked in pee. From head to toe. What kind of conditions was he held in during recovery for this to even be possible? It has been roughly eight hours since the surgery and he is still incontinent. We will be taking him to a different vet for a second opinion if this continues into tomorrow.

Experiencia fantástica: Love them. They were so nice and kind helping me check on my dogs teeth. They got me in got a cleaning a week later. Such a great low cost option. Tip: try to go on a Wednesday or off day. Monday, Friday, and Saturday are super busy to get your dog checked.

Saturday around 4pm I walk in for some vaccine for my baby cat, first thing we hear as soon as we walk in was “we are not taking anymore” from a asian looking sir, to the other coworker who says back to him “no, we haven’t heard anything so take them.” I am guessing because of that decision, this gentleman was so rude and unwelcoming to US, and my daughter asking us the personal information and we were repeating back to him in a good way and calm way so, my 16 year old was also responding to him next to me. We have been emancipet customers for 15 years. We know that it is a non-profit organization with many volunteers. If this is the position of this gentleman I understand his point is voluntary and they are not paying him but if he does not like it, he gives a bad representation towards emancipate. We were not begging for free services. We were there for low cost service, which is different. It is embarrassing being in front of others customers during a check-in like this, really bad way to receive a customer in. he told us after the check-in if you are not here at 5:30, you’re gonna be removed from the list with a very bad tone. It’s sad because my daughter knows a lot of about emancipet and she wants to become a volunteer soon since she’s only 16yrs now, as soon as we walk out of the building she was sharing with me and clearly told me why he was rude and especially working for emancipet? Yes she said that because we have a different perspective from this organization we’ve been to so many of those low cost mobile clinic and those doctors and volunteers They are super sweet as a watermelon ever since my kids were 4yrs old. We also called the location today before walk in and we selected a return call and the gentleman who called us back was so professional and respectful that he asked my daughter to handle the phone to me to add her into my account in order to talk to her. My apologies for the young man if you were having a busy day today my friend, but At least you were inside an air-conditioned building, compared to those who worked at the mobile clinics at the parks. We still recommend emancipet to friends and family because this organization is amazing and help us, especially Us who get straight animals to give it a second chance. I was curious too because around the time we were leaving at 6:30, a guest came in asking for service and the guy had said “the wait was two hours”, so I don’t understand why he was not willing to take us at 4:00.

Experiencia fantástica: I took my 16yo cat this morning. She and I couldn’t be happier. She had claws that had grown into her pads. I didn’t realize. The fix was quick, but beyond my skill set. The consultation was extended and informative. The staff, from front desk, to the Vet Tech, to the Vet, kind and helpful. Emancipet provides a separate cat waiting room, which limited O.G.’s (Orange Girl) trauma. I can’t remember leaving a veterinary practice without being $150 lighter—today I spent Ten Bucks. My 16yo cat is acting like a kitten again! 10/31/24: Today, as during the past week, I have tried to book an appointment. I waited 33min today on the phone— no answer.

Experiencia negativa: I usually bring my dog here for shots. She threw up some water, and they wouldn't see her. I asked if they did blood work. Yes. So, don't bring your dog or cat here unless it's just shots. The girl at the front desk just gave me an attitude. Superior non-caring attitude.

Experiencia fantástica: Emancipet is the only vet I will be taking my cat back to for his healthy pet visits! After taking him to another ”affordable” vet in Austin and being hit with a not affordable cost for the most basic care, I wanted to try emancipet again after having gone to the Levander Loop location years ago with my other pets. I was SO impressed with this location! Arriving just after opening there was a wait, but they offer a cat room separate from where the dogs wait to keep kitties calm. The vet was incredibly kind and informative, and I was able to get in and out within 15 minutes once it was my turn to see the vet. For half the cost I paid at the other vet(which was a single vaccine along with FLV/FVRCP testing) I was able to get FVRCP, FLV, and rabies vaccines along with his microchip. So grateful for Emancipet for keeping veterinary care TRULY affordable!
