Experiencia negativa: My dog was at a different ER due to a broken bone and we have been trying to get him in for surgery. I just got a phone call from this place and I called back, the lady answered and I explained I just missed a call from this number about 20 mins ago. She asked if I had a pet there, I stated no and she stated well I dont know why we would have called so. I then explained the situation with my dog and explained that Im not sure if someone sent records, or they were calling about surgery etc because i got no voicemail. She stated the surgery team isnt here and wouldn’t have called. I’m shocked, didn’t offer to look up my pets name and double check or offer to touch base with her co workers etc. She was very monotone and cold, if this is how I am to be treated over the phone, I would not want my animal in surgery there to receive the same treatment later.

Experiencia negativa: My mom and I brought our sweet dog Finn in because we were afraid something was wrong with him—which there was—the vet found a large cancerous tumor which had begun bleeding resulting in his distress and later, his death that night. It was horrible having to carry him into the building because he couldn’t walk by himself, and I will never forget that night. In person, the staff (especially the vet taking care of our dog, nothing against her, she was kind) seemed nice and understanding of the heartbreak we were going through. However. After the fact, my mom received an exorbitant bill which she called to inquire about. A receptionist answered and told my mom that she QUOTE “could help with her questions”. My mom started asking more in-depth about the exact charges and services rendered, which we were in fact NOT notified about on that night, or told how much those services cost (some of which our dog didn’t necessarily need, because he was actively dying). The receptionist HUNG UP in the middle of the call, so, I guess they couldn’t help after all. I am just shocked at the unprofessionalism, rudeness, and lack of compassion that person displayed during that call. Whoever that receptionist was should be ashamed. If they could not answer her questions they should have said so and simply made a point to connect her with someone who could. You’d think, and hope, that people working in this field—even someone working at the front desk!!— would have a great deal of compassion and respect regarding what their patients/families have to go through in order to need to be at the emergency vet in the first place. On top of the frankly traumatic experience of our dog dying, we were saddled with a very large bill which was not made transparent to us at that time. This just seems wrong, and feels like they were essentially robbing us in a vulnerable moment. I am hurt by this in a multitude of ways, and would not encourage anyone I know to take their pet to this clinic. I’m glad that our baby isn’t in pain anymore, and they did help him pass peacefully. But it doesn’t take away from the anger I feel to think about this person hanging up the phone when faced with an uncomfortable conversation.

Experiencia positiva: I brought my mom’s dog, Lola, here today after she suddenly collapsed and couldn’t breathe well. The vet and staff were great at keeping me informed. Unfortunately, Lola had a rupture in her heart which was fatal. The vet and the techs were very supportive and empathetic as I said my goodbyes to her. They didn’t rush me at all, which was really appreciated. My only negative feedback is for the person who came into the room to collect the payment before I left. They referred to my mom’s dog as a “he” and used the name “Lucky”. She was a she, and her name was Lola. I know it might seem insignificant to others, but this detail is meaningful to the family of the pet. The only other thing is I didn’t get a receipt. The quote that was shown to me beforehand included bloodwork, but the vet said Lola’s blood pressure was so low they weren’t able to draw any blood. I was too distraught at the time to even think about the details.

Experiencia fantástica: Brought my dog here late January due to an allergic reaction making her face balloon up (started when I was out of town and by the time I picked her up it was clear something was wrong). They did some diagnostics and couldn’t really find anything that clearly caused this, but the vet mentioned that the lump on her leg could be a mast cell tumor- I had no idea lumps could be cancerous and release histamines. I had just had this lump examined by a vet a couple months prior and was told not to worry about it. My girl got her meds to treat her/ keep her comfortable in the meantime. I got her into a new vet and again, not a lot of concern about her leg lumps but the fact that this emergency vet mentioned that it could be the culprit had me push for further testing. Turns out she has two mast cell tumors on the same leg (the smaller lump I hadn’t even noticed yet). I’m really thankful that this possible/ unlikely cause was mentioned because that was the cause of my girl’s discomfort. I will now hopefully have more time with her because of it and I’m very thankful.

Experiencia fantástica: We currently have our dog Chewie under their continued care at the moment. I absolutely love the staff at the South location. Is it expensive , yes but this group of people deal with trauma, angry parents, etc. all while doing it with the biggest heart. I couldn’t imagine doing what they do on a daily basis. I couldn’t go through what we are going through without them. Gold stars for everyone! I’ll bring some in next time I’m there.

Experiencia fantástica: Having to go to an emergency vet for any reason is difficult. But from the moment we arrived with our sweet boy, Jax, we felt that this was the best place to be with him. His care was transferred from the emergency team to internal medicine and Dr. Zaccardi and her team took the best care of him. While we missed him so much when he wasn’t at home, we knew he was in amazing hands. Dr. Adamovich performed a challenging surgery on him and gave him a great shot. Ultimately our sweet boy did not make it due to disease progression, but we are so grateful for the team and everything they did for us and him. I recommend this team whole heartedly.

Experiencia fantástica: I just wanted to take some time to give a BIG THANK YOU to Central Tex Vet South Austin. On Jan 27th I took in my boy Tyson as he was severely sick. Unfortunately we had to make a very difficult decision and put him down. Thank you everyone for all that you do. Keep up the great work! We appreciate you and pray blessings!

Experiencia negativa: I brought my dog to Central Texas Veterinary Specialty & Emergency Hospital late at night after he was bitten by another animal. Unfortunately, my experience was extremely disappointing. The veterinarian, Lachlan Bannister, was cold and dismissive and did not appear to thoroughly evaluate my dog’s condition. I was charged $220 for an emergency consultation, yet during that visit my dog’s wound was not cleaned, dressed, shaved, or properly examined. It is unclear what examination actually took place, given that the affected area was never shaved or closely inspected. Despite this lack of assessment, I was immediately quoted $1,700 for stitches for a laceration on my dog’s neck. There was no meaningful discussion of alternative treatment options or whether sutures were even appropriate for the type and location of the wound. I ultimately chose to wait a few hours and take my dog to a regular veterinarian once they opened. That decision likely prevented unnecessary treatment. Our vet properly shaved and thoroughly inspected the wound and explained that stitches were not recommended because puncture wounds in that area can “pocket,” trapping bacteria and increasing the risk of infection. The safest approach was to leave the wound open to drain and heal naturally. At our regular vet, Sgt. Pepper received proper wound care, a full examination, a rabies vaccine, and an antibiotic injection — all for under $150, less than the unjustified fee I paid for their emergency services. What was especially upsetting is that Lachlan assured us that “any vet” would charge at least two-thirds of what this emergency clinic quoted. That statement was clearly untrue. The contrast between the two experiences made it feel like recommendations at this emergency clinic were driven by profit rather than what was best for my dog. While I was there, another woman arrived in tears because her cat had scratched its eye. Seeing how emotionally vulnerable pet owners are in emergency situations makes this kind of pricing and lack of transparency especially concerning. If your pet is truly dying and you have no other option, you may feel forced to come here. Otherwise, I strongly recommend avoiding this place. If you can make the drive, Springtown Veterinary Clinic in San Marcos provided compassionate, honest, and affordable care, and I cannot recommend them enough.

Experiencia negativa: I brought my dog to the south Austin location yesterday after he had a some sort of episode (maybe a seizure, they never addressed it even though that’s the reason I brought him there). They took my dog to the back, then I did a quick intake with a vet tech. I wish he would have been with me for that or at least brought back to me after they checked his vitals so I could have communicated more about how his behavior then was not normal. The vet tech relayed the information they collected from me to vet who then met with me and sort of just talked at me about pieces of information the vet tech shared with them but never actually asked me questions to figure out what is going on. It was like they took pieces of what I shared to treat (unrelated symptoms), but didn’t take the time to put it all together. I wish they’d sent me somewhere else that could. He’s not the same dog he was the day before yesterday, but I didn’t feel like I could get that point across to them. He’s in serious cognitive decline and I regret so much not taking him somewhere that would have asked me the right questions and recognized something is very wrong. Now I’m out over $800 I could have used to pay for care that could actually help him. Edit: I called after this happened and talked to a receptionist when I originally posted this review. She said I’d get a call back. They never did. I cannot stress enough how much they don’t care. They pressured me into buying medication he didn’t need (did not need based on my conversation with his regular vet after this visit). I still feel completely taken advantage of.

Experiencia negativa: took my yorkie in bc he was lethargic, white gums, pottying on himself. All of his symptoms happened instantly and I took him in. This place charged me 300 bucks to give him oxygen and come out and say, well we close in 30 minutes so we need you to go next door to our sister location. I beg your pardon? My dog is dying and you want me to go somewhere else? They did not act like they cared whatsoever about my dog. Went across the parking lot to the recommended location....they acted interested until I said I wasnt leaving him overnight, then they acted like they could care less! So, since I wasn't going to hand over THREE THOUSAND dollars for them to monitor him overnight, they basically lied and said they can't test him for any toxins or poisons bc they don't do that, but if I thought he ingested medications I could GO TO CVS AND BUY AN AT HOME DRUG KIT AND TEST HIM MYSELF. This place does NOT care about your pets! They only care if you've got thousands of dollars to give them!! Praying my dog will be ok since they didn't want to treat him properly!!

Experiencia negativa: Very bad experience, very rude and condescending nurse, immediately took our business elsewhere . As soon as we spoke to the front desk there was a feeling we were being rushed, and the communication wasn’t very warm. After waiting in a room the vet tech arrived, nurse Tristan, she seemed very unengaged and hurried. If she was doing everything she could to turn us away she succeeded. There was a tone as if she wanted us to feel guilty as if we were neglecting our animal, and several times looked at me and spoke to me in a rude condescending way. While speaking about means of diagnoses i.e. bloodwork to identify possible disease, she mentioned my cat was becoming quite thin. I simply stated we’ve been theorizing she’s been becoming thinner due to her age, and asked if she thinks that could also be a cause of her thinness, to which nurse Tristan looked at me blankly, paused that way for a good second, then in a very condescending tone, as if I was logically daft stated “age is not a disease” which in no way at all was what I asked, and in no way answered my question. After further discussion she then told me she’d be taking my cat in the back where I wouldn’t be able to come with to keep an eye or comfort her. There was so much I could surmise from the interaction. She rudely gave a 5 word response to a reasonable question that deserved discussion and beckoned nuance, and why not discuss to help me become comfortable with her reasoning, a response which- Secondly: made zero sense and caused me to begin to question if she misunderstood me, yet she responded as if I was ignorant or annoying, staring at me for seconds like I was stupid before condescending me. Third: given, obviously, I’m a human who can pick up social cues and takeaway an overall sense of security or lack there of, and communicate with another humans successfully (or not), and this nurse didn’t try a lick to accommodate me on that spectrum of things, to think I’d let her be alone with my cat who can’t complain if she had a bad experience nor is seen as capable to do so if she is mistreated by someone who would take advantage of that fact, is insane. Terrible business model: Guilt trip the pet owner first thing to try to scare the consumer that it could be an urgent matter, then be blatantly rude and condescending, to ruin not only trust/sense of security, but willingness to even pay a dime to a person, and then, mention you won’t be able to be with your pet while they’re being worked on whilst being vague on what will be needed as far as just diagnoses ,not even treatment, and how much the diagnoses will cost. All of which ultimately sets you up to ponder whether you’d trust the person who you’d be handing your family member over to, and pay to do so, just to realize, no this past 5 minutes was actually terrible and full of warning signs. I will give her credit, after we gave some pushback because we wouldn’t be able to be with my cat, she pointed us to a different 24/7 facility across the street, that lets you stay with your pet during everything, and said in reference to her clinic “most people just walk out”. The other veterinary clinic absolutely exceeded our expectations in every way, and I couldn’t thank them enough, seriously, they’ll be receiving a positive review the same length as this negative one, they absolutely went above and beyond. But truly we left CTVSEH with such a bad impression I just need to give this feedback because it is seriously not okay to treat someone with such disrespect, especially whilst coming in with an injured family member, in a sensitive state, like we had. My cat even showed discomfort at CTVSEH and her body language at the other clinic was so calm and comfortable, purring, giving happy eyes whilst looking at the very kind vet tech, complete opposite as when she was at CTVSEH. Seriously Don’t come to this clinic there was nothing warm about the experience upon attempting to admit my pet and I’ll never let anyone treat me disrespectfully and then take my money. (AND MY BABY?!)

Experiencia fantástica: I’ll be forever grateful to Dr. Bailey and the entire team. Our cat Abby had an accident last February and needed surgery for a leg fracture. We were so worried and heartbroken, but Dr. Bailey truly worked magic — she gave us our baby back. They treated us with such kindness and professionalism from the very first moment, fitting Abby’s surgery in as soon as they could and keeping us informed every step of the way. The follow-ups and email communication were always caring and reassuring. Abby is now completely recovered — she runs, jumps, and lives a 100% normal life, as if nothing ever happened. Experiencia fantástica: I am writing this review for CTVSEH Round Rock Location Rehab. Nichole, the rehab technician, handled all of my dog Ally’s care with incredible dedication. She went above and beyond to tailor Ally’s rehab to her unique needs and limitations, showing patience, professionalism, and genuine compassion throughout the process. Dr. Sanudo created a rehab program specifically for Ally, and Nichole carried it out flawlessly, giving each session individual attention and care. She always explained what she was doing and treated Ally as if she were her own. It’s very rare to find someone who loves their job as much as she does—and loves the dogs in her care just as much. Thanks to Nichole’s skill and care, Ally made steady progress, and I always felt confident leaving her in Nichole’s capable hands. We truly hated to say goodbye. Anyone looking for knowledgeable, compassionate rehab care for their dog would be lucky to work with her. —Rana

Experiencia fantástica: Two visits in last few years. A cat that fell from 2nd floor balcony...they put her displaced toes back into the sockets and we were out in about an hour. Another time, cat hadn't been eating and was deteriorating quickly. Unknown to us, Sam had IBS. Intestine swollen shut. They kept her overnight on IV fluids to bring down swelling. She made a full recovery. Expensive but you really can't complain when they're open 24 hours and equipped to handle anything.

Experiencia negativa: THIS EMERGENCY VET DOES NOT CARE ST ALL. DO NOT TAKE YOUR PET HERE!!! This was the worst experience we have ever had at an emergency vet. We took our Pomeranian in because she was acting extremely lethargic, eyes glassy, was falling over when she tried to walk. They saw her and did an extremely bare bones physical exam and said it was an infection (even though she wasn’t showing signs of that) and gave us antibiotics. I asked if she got fluids and they said it was not necessary. The doctor was dismissive and convinced us not to do any more tests and shrugged his shoulders and left. They gave us antibiotics. The next day we took her to a different emergency vet and they immediately gave her fluids, did a thorough exam and told us she possibly had a mini stroke or a vestibular disorder. They told us she was very dehydrated and were shocked that she didn’t get fluids at the other vet even though we told them she wasn’t eating or drinking. They also told us there was no reason antibiotics should have been prescribed. Front desk staff also ignored us to chat with each other and gossip and watch tik tok. Disgusting.

Experiencia fantástica: From the bottom of my heart & ten times over thank you forever to DR. Sam Seramur. I honestly cannot imagine a person on this earth that could have been more of the right human to help me face one of the hardest experiences ever with having to say goodbye to my most special German Shepard Tala. I will forever, be grateful to you Sam for being by my side as I said goodbye to Tala & for covering every possibility in handling his care. The entire team from start to finish were such beautiful humans, on point, and by my side from start to finish which meant everything to me while navigating those precious and critical moments. Thank you again with everything that I am. Joshua Sincerbeaux

Experiencia fantástica: We are beyond grateful for Dr. Khorzad. After our regular vet kept our dog overnight and ran multiple tests without finding answers, Dr. Khorzad quickly and correctly diagnosed the issue. Her expertise, compassion, and thoroughness truly saved our dog. What sets her apart is not only her medical knowledge but also her dedication—she personally answers my calls, even after our visits, to make sure our dog is recovering well and to ease our concerns. It is rare to find a veterinarian who combines skill, attentiveness, and genuine care in this way. Dr. Khorzad has been nothing short of a savior for our family, and we trust her completely with our dog’s health.

Experiencia negativa: When we first arrived, they happily signed us in if you're willing to front $1000. Once you've fronted the money, they take your animal away to be "put in an oxygen box", a very pricy and frequently unnecessary step. Then they put you into a virtual holding cell for 3.5 hours until they get around to dealing with your animal. Even after that time, they took a failed xray that didn't show the actual damage that was done and recommended we leave him overnight so they could fully sedate him and take better x-rays. Their prices start inflated and having him stay overnight so they can "watch" him would of course inflate the price drastically. Afterwards, when they were explaining the course of drugs, the vet was extremely aggressive, rude, and condescending. According to prior reviewers, this place has gone downhill from what it used to be. I don't know how this place is still in business. There's a place across the street that's rated significantly higher. That's where I'll be going in the future when I have a vet emergency.

Experiencia negativa: Please try to take your animals somewhere else. I brought my cat here for an emergency surgery and in the end, I ended up losing her. I understand this is an emergency center but the people who work here don’t seem to understand that most of us do not have $1,200 a night to waste on care that is not sufficient. One of the doctors was rude and would not even acknowledge me when speaking. I tried multiple times to get updates on my baby and the wait times were ridiculous. By the time this company was done “ caring” for my cat, she was in a worse state then when I brought her.. I will not be returning with future pets. I’m now stuck with a bill over 7 grand and my fur baby that had to suffer before she passed! Please avoid this place! There were a few nice techs and one decent doctor, that’s about it..I don’t leave negative reviews unless I feel it’s necessary.

Experiencia fantástica: Today I had to say goodbye to my beloved pup, Sambo. He was originally my mom’s dog and became mine, and we were lucky to share over 13 wonderful years together. Sambo had been facing several health challenges, and I chose humane euthanasia so he wouldn’t suffer. The staff at Central Texas Veterinary were incredible—every person, from the receptionist to the nurse and the doctor, showed such kindness and compassion. In the midst of my heartbreak, their care made an unbearable moment a little more peaceful, and I’m deeply grateful for that.

Experiencia fantástica: I took my poor kitty here at 1:30 AM. That night, I unexpectedly had to send him across the rainbow bridge. I’ve never done that before and it breaks my heart being without him. This vet office took excellent care of him and were all so kind to us in the process. I am grateful to have had these caring folks to guide us through the process. I even received a handwritten note in the mail offering their condolences. Thank you Dr. Miller and all staff that was there that night ♥️

Experiencia fantástica: I cannot say enough about the incredible care we received at Central Texas Veterinary Specialty & Emergency Hospital-South Austin. From the moment we walked in due to an emergency situation, I knew our beloved family member was in good hands. The emergency vets—Dr. Khorzad, Dr. Ramirez, Dr. Newth, and Dr. Floyd—were not only highly knowledgeable but also compassionate, patient, and thorough in their care. The emergency techs who assisted in our dog’s treatment were equally remarkable, treating him with gentleness and skill. Both the day and night reception staff showed such kindness, ensuring we had quality visiting time with him while he recovered. Even the night office manager went above and beyond, helping us come to our own informed decision regarding his care with honesty and empathy. Throughout the entire experience, I felt completely assured that our dog was being treated with dignity, respect, and deep compassion. What stood out most was knowing that the care and love we witnessed was not just reserved for us—it’s how they treat every patient and family who walks through their doors. To the entire team: you truly have angel wings. Thank you for everything you do.

Experiencia fantástica: While I obviously wasn’t happy that my cat was in such bad shape that she needed to go here, they made it a really good experience. She was in critical condition so they took her in almost immediately and began treatment. My vet didn’t think she’d make it but these doctors didn’t seem to have an issue getting to the root cause and nursing her back to near full health. I’d say the only negative is the price but it’s to be expected with 24/7 care.

Experiencia fantástica: Dr Barnes and her team are absolutely amazing and I am so thankful for them. They were able to see my girl the NEXT DAY and were so kind to her and explained to me all the steps and treatment needed. All the medicine was well labeled and explained as well. I already knew I would be following the instructions and medications as recommended. I’d only say the area of improvement could be explaining the cost a bit more - but the cost was more than reasonable and fair. I am so thankful for them - truly. Yes, they can be a bit busy but it’s also an emergency facility and they balanced the emergencies that came in while I was there in grace. We were referred for ophthalmology not emergency- but they are great at balancing both departments. Once again - so thankful and really wonderful team from techs to doctor.

Experiencia negativa: Do NOT go here, it’s a scam! They would not even tell me if they could removed my dogs cyst tonight, they would not be able to tell me the price or any average prices, they try to get you in for $220 and then they are able to charge high prices based on people’s emotions of their pets. The woman who answered was rude, and anytime people secretive about something, you know exactly what they are trying to do. The moment I observed and it, she was confrontational. Do not trust these people, they cannot be transparent and honest

Hello David,
We appreciate you sharing your experience with our client care team. We understand that emergency pricing is important, but without a physical exam and diagnostics, we are not able to provide an accurate estimate of proposed charges or fees. The emergency fee is $220; all additional recommendations for medical care will be based on that emergency exam by our emergency veterinarians.
We aim to assist pet owners with emergency medical care and will review this explanation with our team to improve future communication.
We hope your pet was able to find medical care and is doing well.

Experiencia negativa: Unfortunately Im only giving one star, due to lack of communication and service. I went in Wednesday night to get my cat looked at. My cat had an open wound with muscle tissue showing, the receptionist called for a vet technician to see what issue my cat had. Someone from the back said something over the intercom no one came out. I was asked to have a seat, during my wait three more pets came in and from what I overheard two had diarrhea the third was unknown. Once again the receptionist called over the intercom for a technician to see these pets. Now I understand that cats and dogs getting dehydrated can cause kidney damage and more. These pets were taken back and im assuming treated, while no one came to evaluate the condition of my pet with an open wound with muscle tissue exposed. With waiting a few more moments I had to go to a different after hours clinic. I do hope in the future pets with open wounds and any kind of muscle tissue or bleeding will be addressed promptly.

Experiencia negativa: I took my cat here yesterday for a degloved tail after it was caught in a door. We filled out paperwork and waited over 30min in a pretty empty lobby before someone came to take my cat. We then waited another 2hours before someone took us to a back room to review pricing for surgery to dock his tail. I was in shock over the price. I’m aware emergency clinics are more expensive than regular vet offices but to me the estimated price was extreme. I told them I needed a minute to make a decision so they left the room. I waited over 30 minutes for someone to come back in to check on us. I gave them the go-ahead for surgery (almost $3000 ) only for them to tell me that they no longer could do the surgery or hospitalize him and that they would be sending me and my cat home. They told me all that could be done was to wrap his tail, and take him to our regular vet in the morning. HIS SKELETON WAS EXPOSED AND HE WAS IN A LOT OF PAIN. I felt dismissed by the team and was very confused as to why they even took my cat in the first place if they didn’t have space for him. At this point we had been there for 3 hours waiting for care just to be turned away. In all, for the exam, shaving his tail, and wrapping it in gauze, it was $500. It also took another 1.5hrs before I even got him back from them doing that service. By this point is was past 1am. The wrap was also terribly done. We were lucky to be taken in by Veterinary Emergency Group immediately and they were concerned by the way his tail had been wrapped. VEG not only was kinder and more attentive to me and my cat but was also had an estimated price for surgery that was half of the cost of Central Texas Vet’s which also made me feel like I had been taken advantage of here. The staff was dismissive to me and my concerns, poor communication as well. I really try to give everyone the benefit of the doubt and I know that vet med, especially ER, can be hectic and draining but compassion is key from staff when you are scared for your pet’s life. My experience here was terrible and I will never ever bring one of my pets here again. VEG is less than 5min away from this location and gave exponentially better service and care for my little guy.

Dr. Krista Adamovich, DVM, performed the procedure and took the time to walk us through every detail with clarity and compassion. Her surgical expertise and thorough explanation gave us complete confidence that our pup was in the very best hands. Carolyn at the front desk was so kind and helpful, keeping us well-informed and supported every step of the way. After surgery, Bri provided thoughtful and detailed post-op teaching that helped us feel well-prepared to care for him at home. Experiencia fantástica: I cannot thank CTVSE for the care they provided my pup. We walked in thinking we were going to loose our pup. It was hard having to wait for the Dr, but they were able to diagnose her before the lab results come back. I originally took her to VEG the day before, after spending 1900 with them they had missed diagnosed her. Taking your dogs to ER is always a horrible experience I don't think reviews really help. Experiencia negativa: Do not count on the care here. It is substandard. My cat escaped the house when we had houseguests and had a traumatic injury on a Sunday morning recently, and we brought her to the south location of CTVSEH for emergency care. She had a broken leg and a few open wounds. Their orthopedic surgeon would not be in until the next morning, so we left her over night in their care for pain management and wound care. The next morning their surgeon apparently called out for the week, so we picked her up and took her to a different specialty vet office, Violet Crown, for surgery. Upon arrival, the Violet Crown surgeon did an assessment of our cat and found her wounds open, dirty, and she was in septic shock (infection in her body shutting down her vital organ function). Not a candidate for surgery. They fought to get her stabilized all day, but she was circling the drain and wasn’t going to make it with any good outcomes. We had to let her go. I requested her records from CTVSEH- come to find out all they did was a “rough irrigation” of the wounds, and didn’t even start her on any antibiotics until 2pm- 4.5 hours after she arrived. Because they didn’t clean her wounds, and waited half the day to give her any antibiotics, plus the doctor the next morning didn’t pay attention to her deteriorating condition, she was too sick to even operate to fix her leg. The notes on her care at CTVSEH was just a couple sentences at 8pm, when she had arrived to their emergency room at 9:30am. I have called and left voicemails 4 times with no response from Patti, their business manager. They obviously don’t care that they let our sweet little 2 year old kitty die from infection due to their negligent care.

Experiencia fantástica: We are beyond grateful for the incredible team at Central Texas Veterinary Emergency Hospital. They quite literally saved our schnauzer’s life. After days of uncertainty and concern, we brought him in and they quickly discovered he had ingested a foreign object that required emergency surgery. It was a terrifying moment for our family, but the care, compassion, and professionalism we experienced from every single person there gave us hope and comfort. The vets and staff not only acted swiftly and skillfully performing a successful surgery that saved our pup’s life but they also worked with us to find a way to manage the financial side of things. Their empathy and understanding during such a stressful time meant the world to us. Our schnauzer was hospitalized for four days, and throughout his stay, they kept us informed, reassured, and comforted. We knew he was in the best hands possible. Experiencia negativa: Emergencies happen. But I would advise checking out another option than CTVSEH, even if they were good with other visits - this place has gone extremely downhill. Nobody was there with their pet patients upon our arrival and we got immediately triaged by the staff, however we sat in the waiting room for over 30 minutes while they triaged others and we remained unseen - even after telling them our pet had an extremely high fever. We went to another facility and were seen immediately where they took vitals and our dog’s temperature was 105.3. They immediately got us back and sedated him and gave him fluids to start bringing the temperature down. It had been higher when we were at CTVSEH, so who knows how high it really was - because we had already given him some meds to bring it down. The facility also seemed run down and dirty. Won’t be back.

Experiencia fantástica: I've brought my cat here twice. Once after she was misdiagnosed with a bowel obstruction at another pet hospital. She spent three days at two other pet clinics receiving unnecessary treatment that was actually making her illness worse. When I took her to CTVSEH, they correctly diagnosed her with inflammatory bowel disease, and it only took them a half day. My baby got the right medication and made a full recovery. Without the skilled doctors and great staff at CTVSEH, my cat would have had an unnecessary surgery at another pet hospital, and likely would have died. She has been back one more time after she had a dental surgery at another clinic. She was having pain and nausea after her surgery. They treated her with the right medications and she is on the road to recovery. They always remember her and treat her with care. Amazing staff!!!

Experiencia fantástica: I can't say enough good things about this place and the staff. My cat was attacked by what we think was a dog or maybe another bigger cat. He was seen quickly in a Sunday morning, they explained everything to me and it didn't cost an arm and a leg like I thought. The next day my previously feral cat ripped out a stitch due to the cone he had to wear and they saw him again quickly and helped me get the cone on better. They even got us more meds to keep him somewhat sedated while it healed. When I returned to get the stit jes taken out there was no extra cost associated and they saw us again, very quickly. I am very pleased with this location and all of the helpful understanding staff. Thank you!

Experiencia negativa: Came because there was an eye damage concern on the dog in my care. They kept bumping us down and had us waiting for at least 3.5 hrs without much information or time estimate. Almost as if we didn’t matter unless you started complaining. It’s not the front desk’s fault but the fault of the staff and management. Even when they evaluate the dog in the back, it would also be good to let me know so that I can even take a break. Otherwise, you have no idea when they’ll call you. You’re only valued if you’re in critical condition so if you can wait for your vet, I would just not consider this place. This was really disappointing because my friend even recommended this place so something went really downhill

Experiencia negativa: I’ve held off writing this review for over two years, but I think it’s important to share. My pup was suffering from a severe allergic reaction, and after waiting over two hours, the staff and vet treated us with dismissive, condescending attitudes. The vet told me, “this is an emergency room,” as if to justify her lack of help and imply I was somehow in the wrong place. To this day, I’m still baffled by that comment. Whether heartless or socially-inept, there’s really no excuse. The following day, I took my dog to his usual vet, who decided it was time to say goodbye. His pain was too much to manage. This wasn’t an isolated incident. Over the years, I’ve noticed the same rude and unprofessional behavior from both the staff and the vets here. This was a horrible time, only made worse by the staff here. Looking back, my dog deserved better care and compassion in his final moments.

Experiencia negativa: We absolutely discourage bringing your pet to this hospital. My pet suffered an allergic reaction to a bug bite. He was having some difficulty breathing. On arrival, he was taken from me and rushed to the back. We did not speak with a vet tech or the vet. After 30 minutes of waiting, the receptionist asked us to call poison control because they thought he ingested poison, for which he DID NOT. Another 30 minutes go by, and we had to ask when we could see our dog. Finally, we were taken to a treatment room (which the walls were covered in blood splatter), to talk with the "vet", still not able to see our dog. The "treatment plan" was discussed with us, which was absolutely absurd, and exactly the same as another dogs with a different chief complaint. The vets words were, "we don't exactly know if something else could be going on" and she wanted to do lab work and abdominal Xrays, even though we knew what exactly was wrong with the dog. She also told us we should never give liquid children's benadryl because the tablets are so much easier to give....okay since when?? I truly believe this facility is scamming people, and you should always question their "treatment plans" and methods.

Experiencia fantástica: In 11/27 I had to say bye-bye to my precious, beautiful, furry, oh so sweet Bubba. I want to tell everybody who took care of me and my Bubba during this heartbreaking time thank y'all so very much. The room we were in was touching w the downed soft lites, the little waterfall but was touched me the most was the way my Bubba was brought in to me, he was laying on the cart on a blanket and w a blanket on top of him. Even tho I was in a devastated frame of mind that was thoughtful and I appreciate it. I was also given time w my furbaby w no pressure. I also wanted to thank CRVS for the sympathy card I will keep it. Again, thank y'all so much. Liz Gomez

Experiencia fantástica: It's no fun to go to the emergency vet (or pay for an emergency vet visit...) but I want to say a huge thank you to the team at CTVSH South - I had to bring my kitten in on Sunday and he was diagnosed with FIP. It was a really shocking diagnosis and I was really emotional about it and what to do next. Each staff member made me feel listened to and cared about, and helped provide information to make my decisions. They spent a ton of time with me and never rushed me, despite the many questions I had. I wanted to say a special shout out to the doctors I worked with - Dr Gates and Dr O'Garro-Wilkins, as well as the vet tech Kate. Thank you for taking such good care of Chip and for helping me through this tough diagnosis.

Experiencia negativa: I’m giving 1 star for the following reasons: 1) administered the wrong meds (med errors can kill dogs). 2) did not prescribe the correct amount for his weight, under medicating a dog with severe back pain is cruel. 3) did not examine my dog in my presence (that’s a red flag). I had to prod for information. Then, put him in a cage while waiting for the vet to examine him instead of leaving with me to hold him. Also cruel. 4) when I called the report the med error the girl at the desk told me “it may take the manager up to 2 weeks to call back but it’s not because we don’t care.” That’s a weird way of showing “care.”

Experiencia fantástica: I was helped by the front desk promptly when I arrived. They were caring and got all the info quickly. My dog had gotten into a large Cisco size bag of granola. They quickly induced vomiting and checked blood work. I got there at 3 and left around 4:30. That is pretty amazing for an ER. And they saved my precious Sammy girl. I couldn’t thank them enough. The front desk and the main hero of the Day Chris! The vet tech who was so compassionate and sweet and the doctor as well. So sorry to have forgotten her name. But she was very kind and prompt to help my dog. Edit Sammy also got into some xylitol. I had to pay quite a lot to save her but they were as caring as always. And I was given half my money back. It seems as though this place is very overwhelmed by a lot of intake. There are other locations. I think people go here cuz they trust them. However it does get overwhelmed quickly due to them being short staffed. And I think that is why there are some negative comments. These people care about animals and go above and beyond to do everything they can for your pet. But you might wait hours if it’s not a severe emergency. Which is probably true at most reliable ER animal services. I’m a nurse and it’s surely true for human people. And I work at St David’s which is a top ranked Hospital…when everyone comes in at once you get prioritized based on how sick you are…just wanted to put that out there for people complaining about waits and if they felt the staff was rude…they are overwhelmed and under paid…give them a break! And give them compassion that you show animals!

Experiencia negativa: Our 14 year old dog Yoda was brought to the ER by our Rover pet sitter after he suffered multiple seizures, and unfortunately had to be euthanized while we were over 1000 miles away. I have never met a medical professional in my life who has treated us as incredibly cold, callous, judgmental, and with zero compassion as Dr. Elizabeth A Tawny has. While I don’t doubt her and the staff’s medical capabilities are top notch, she has singlehandedly made this experience much more traumatic than it needed to be. Upon first contact with Dr. Tawny, she seemed to have made it her mission to judge us on how we have been medically treating our dog’s diabetes, and chastised us for not properly monitoring his blood sugar, stating that this is the reason why he ended up here. When my wife asked for clarification on his condition (as we were out of state when this happened), she coldly and bluntly stated he came in “seizing and foaming at the mouth”. When my wife tried to ask her further questions, bawling her eyes out, she heavily sighed, and said in a stern voice, “I CAN’T understand a word she’s saying, can I PLEASE speak to someone else?”. We have spent close to $10k on Yoda in veterinarian bills over his lifetime, which includes regular checkups / visits to our local vet, blood glucose monitoring and diabetes checkups with a Freestyle Libre, and visits to a pet specialist oncologist and internist. Dr. Tawny spoke to us as if we were irresponsible pet parents when she knows nothing of Yoda’s history and our ability to care for him. On our second contact with Dr. Tawny, she coldly summarized that the treatments weren’t working, and that his brain had “melted” due to his diabetic seizures. Her tone instantly changed, and she said in a sarcastic, high-spirited manner, “so, are you guys ready to euthanize?” In my opinion, the number one requirement of someone in a position that deals with difficult end of life decisions and loss is compassion and empathy, and we received neither from Dr. Tawny. When the decision had to be made to euthanize, we had to provide verbal confirmation to the second veterinarian present, Dr. Roxanna Khorzad. Dr. Khorzad was extremely compassionate and empathetic in the short (roughly 20 seconds) we spoke with her, sincerely apologizing for our loss. When the phone was handed back to Dr. Tawny, we got a short, insincere “sorry”, and asked us to call our pet sitter if we wanted to facetime her during the euthanasia. The difference in attitude between Dr. Tawny and Dr. Khorzad was night and day. Dr. Tawny seems to be in the wrong profession, as she appeared to be incapable of showing any compassion or empathy during an extremely difficult situation. The loss of Yoda has left a huge hole our hearts and in the hearts of our family, and we have been robbed of any ounce of peace and comfort in his passing. Instead, we are left only to replay the traumatic imagery placed in our heads by Dr. Tawny. Her judgment and callous demeanor over the phone was unnecessary, unprofessional, and unwarranted in any situation.

Experiencia negativa: We had a really negative experience with this place. We found an injured bird yesterday evening which was a Sunday and we couldn’t find a place to take her. After calling around we called 311 and then we called this veterinary clinic and the woman on the phone said distinctly that they would take her. So we drove 45 minutes there to bring them the bird and when we arrived the woman I had spoken to was no longer there and the people who were there refused to accept the bird. A girl behind the counter was even snickering at us with an evil looking grin as she told us that they won’t help the bird and that it is just a broken wing insinuating a lack of intelligence on our part for trying to help an injured animal. It’s quite disturbing to encounter narcissists like her in a veterinary clinic. It is just my opinion but I think non-compassionate people shouldn’t be working with animals. The bird continued to suffer in what appeared to be agony for about 7 hours before she died later last night/early this morning.

Experiencia fantástica: I cannot say enough good things about Dr. Gates and her team. We arrived to Central Texas Veterinary Services with a very sick kitty on Friday July 19th, after being basically laughed out of another emergency vet for not having enough money. When we let Dr. Gates know about our budget, she was kind, helpful and made a treatment plan for our Mr. Darcy that focused on making him feel better while also honoring what we could pay. Not only were they respectful and kind through this entire interaction (it's so embarrassing to break down in tears and tell someone you can only spend $3000, especially after another vet told you there was nothing they could do for less than $6000), she was also the most thorough, patient and competent vet we've ever met. She explained the treatment plan in detail, described exactly what our baby was going through and how she was going to work to solve it and made sure any questions we had were answered. Throughout Mr. Darcy's 50 hr hospital stay, Dr. Gates and Dr. Ray called us with updates about his progress, made sure we were informed about how he was doing, told us anecdotes about his behavior and let us know when it was safe to come visit him (they let him be off fluids for 30 minutes so we could get in a good cuddle!). I have never met a more compassionate team. Every time we called to check in the vet techs (whose names I can't remember, but should have because they were all delightful) were so kind, and the front desk staff was nothing short of lovely. There is nothing quite as scary as a crisis with your pet, but I know Mr. Darcy is sitting here in my lap giving forehead boops SOLELY because of the care he received at Central Texas Veterinary. If you are in need of emergency vet care, please let them take care of your baby too, you won't regret it. Thank you again to Dr. Gates and Dr. Ray. We owe you the world!

Experiencia negativa: We had not only one bad experience but two. First surgery had a screw break so they recommended our puppy have another one immediately. Then Both surgeries failed and for no good explanation. We eventually had to have our puppy Blu get a third surgery at another vet surgeon who ultimately fixed the leg but not after there was so much bone loss due to the first surgeries performed here. Now Blu will always walk with a bad limp because of the ineptness of this facility and the surgeon.

Experiencia fantástica: Last Sunday our Rottweiler had a heatstroke. We called in route and CTVH was ready for us upon arrival. This was a life threatening scary experience…they were compassionate but frank about what we faced. From Dr. Phan’s initial treatment and Dr. Khorzad walking us through complications…we felt that our Mika was getting the best care. Top notch front desk staff and Vet Techs…all were professional and helpful. Folks have complained about high costs—quality professionals deserve to be paid for providing excellent care. From visiting our pet over 4 days, I watched them handled cases that didn’t end well to wins like our case. We want to express our gratitude to the entire CTVH team and know that should the need for emergency care arise again, you’re our first choice.

Experiencia positiva: They saw my dog when he was pooping blood. Because of the triage system we had to wait almost 8 hours, it was very stressful. The pricing is also kind of high. But I am giving 4 stars because the provider was good and they provided medicine that ultimately helped my dog heal.

Experiencia negativa: My dad and I have both had poor experiences here with our dogs. The reception people are great. As a business they are a tad incompetent. Wait times, general recovery knowledge seems poor to average. They sold me medication I couldn’t use and said too bad no refunds. Just do yourself a favor go on the other side of the highway to the other emergency facility. Cheaper and much better quality.

Experiencia negativa: I wish I could give ZERO STARS for the lack of empathy and compassion showed by the Doctor at my last visit. My Golden baby was 11 + years old. When his health started to decline ( including diabetes, blindness, arthritis and hip dysplasia) we decided not to make him suffer any more. Since my baby had very bad anxiety issues , his vet recommended to have the process done at home. So we made an appointment with << The Compassionate Vet>> on Wednesday the 10th at 4pm. Around 1.30 am on Wednesday my Baby started to have shortness of breath. Few minutes later started to have seizures . It was really hard to see him suffering . So I called Emergency Vet and they asked me to bring him right away. He was picked up by the techs from the car. They explained to me that they had to place an intravenous Catheter and will bring him back to the room. Later another Tech came in and told me they were giving oxygen . When they brought my baby to the room I noticed that his breathing was very shallow .I told the techs I think he is gone. One of the tech said we had to let the doctor know and exited the room right away. Few minutes later ( not even two minutes) a lady entered the room with three syringes filled with medications. She didn’t bother to introduce her self. No sorry , or ask whether you need some time to say good bye or explaining the process. She tried to reach the IV line. I told her I was not sure whether he was still with us , aren’t you listen to the heart beats. She took the stethoscope and listen less than 1-2 seconds and said.<< , yes >> and started to push the medication . All three syringes were emptied within 15 seconds and my baby’s body shake vigorously and my baby is gone. I couldn’t say a proper Goodbye to my baby. To the doctor who treated my baby this way << For you it is an animal and you see only $$$ . For me he is my baby who gave unconditional love for 11+ years. I wouldn’t recommend anyone to have your pet processed by this doctor.

Experiencia negativa: I wish I could give zero stars for the lack of importance I was made to feel by these employees. The first girl I spoke with was kind and helpful getting me to get my dogs basic info and hopefully getting her checked in as soon as possible. I completely understand that there are other dogs that are coming in more critical condition than mine, and I had no issue with the animals in a more severe state of course going in and being seen before us, however I should not feel like my dog simply did not have any issue. To be quite frank, I called before I even took my dog in and told them the issue she was having and they only responded with “yes take her in” which I promptly did and was given the impression I would be seen soon. Again, I get that other animals are potentially in a worse position than mine, but if I spoke to you on the phone and explained the issue, it would have saved me the hour and half I was in the waiting room for nobody to ever even come up to me and ask further questions about what was going on with her if someone just could have said it wasn’t that critical of an issue and I could wait to have her seen during normal hours. I waited so patiently without a word the entire time until I literally could not take it anymore. I get protocol, I feel for the other patients that have issues that require immediate attention, but for heavens sake if you have seen particular similar issues happen before, and know it’s not a STAT problem, you can kindly tell someone over the phone so people don’t waste their time, and ESPECIALLY make them feel like their animal is not a priority in any way.

Experiencia positiva: I recently had to take my elderly Pittie/Cane Corso to the South Austin clinic and EVERYONE there that interacted with us and all the medical staff that cared for Izzabelle were amazing. They were kind, caring, gentle, and extremely compassionate, not just with Izzy, but with her other Mom and myself. We had just lost her "fur brother" four days earlier to cancer. Now we were having to let our sweet girl go. I am so very thankful for all of the loving, dedicated people working there, from the staff at the front desk to ALL the staff in the back. Thank you for helping us get through one of the darkest and most painful experiences we have faced. The only reason I did not give them all five stars was I was told receipt would be emailed to me, and I still haven't gotten one. I was also informed by several people that I would be getting a refund back from the deposit I had paid and I haven't received that either. I would imagine this is an issue handled by the billing department and not by any of the staff at the South Austin location. You are all AMAZING, September & Cindy Davis

Experiencia fantástica: Forever grateful to every staff member working here last Saturday evening. While at home, our 9.5 year old Ridgeback had vomited, then refused dinner less than an hour later which lead us to the decision to take her to the ER. While gathering our belongings, she collapsed and could not walk. My husband carried her to the car. I snuggled with her in the back seat, well understanding that it was likely our last car ride together. This was our first time at this vet ER. As soon as we arrived, my husband carrying her, they got her on a stretcher and admitted her. Out front, they gently explained there would be a $1000 deposit and allowed me to verbally fill out the intake form with a receptionist recording the information. It was the most compassion I’ve felt at any vet or doctor’s office in my life. Within minutes, we were called back to a private room where the doctor explained my dog was suffering from pericarditis: fluid had built up all around the heart- likely from an undetected cancer despite her just getting a clean bill of health a month earlier. She explained that it comes on suddenly, gave us treatment options- none of which would have saved our girl for more than a few hours or days. We made the decision to let her die pain-free and with dignity. We were brought to another private room, more comfortable this time with couches and chairs. They wheeled my girl in who managed to life her head and wag her tail as soon as she saw us. The doctor explained the process and told us to take all the time we wanted and needed with her and to ring the buzzer when ready and she’d come Back in. We sat loving on our sweet girl for awhile. Then my husband rang the buzzer. The doctor’s behavior was heartfelt, yet stoic. This was so hard for us- I can’t imagine what it was like to be in this doctor’s position on a daily basis. Her bedside manner put us at ease during the most difficult and gut wrenching night I’ve had with my dog in 9 years. I got to hold my girl, look into her eyes and tell her how loved she was. I was able to be with her until the very end, just as I’d promised her when she was a puppy. When the life was gone from her body, the doctor told us we should feel free to stay as long as we wanted to. I don’t know how long we stayed there, but it was long enough for the staff to allow my in-laws to also come say goodbye (they rushed to meet us when they heard the news). It’s been 4 days since losing my sweet Nori. In between tears, I find myself grateful for every staff member at Central Texas Veterinary. Not every story has a happy ending, but when faced with the worst, being surrounded by a team of empathetic professionals made the best possible experience for what I knew would happen one day- losing my best friend. Thank you CTVS.

Experiencia negativa: My experience at Central Texas Veterinary Clinic was by far the worst vet experience I've ever had. I brought in a kitten close to death, and upon arrival, they immediately demanded a $1000 security deposit with no explanation. They wouldn't inform me about the services or their costs, only emphasizing their frustration with the kitten's condition, as if it were my fault. They insisted that without paying, the kitten would die, but refused to explain why. The front desk staff was unhelpful, claiming they weren't doctors when I asked for clarification, the person I spoke to was rude and unprofessional in her demeanor. When I requested to speak to someone else, she responded with 'who?' in a dismissive manner. Eventually, I had to specify that I wanted to speak to anyone but her, as I needed answers regarding the charges and procedures. Unfortunately, despite my compliance, I had to put the kitten down. They even made me take him home in my hands unless I paid for their expensive packages. In another incident a few years back, my brother's puppy injured her arm and was limping. The clinic sent her home with pain medication, attributing it to soreness. We later discovered that her arm was broken and had healed incorrectly, leaving her with a permanent limp. The clinic's only offered solutions were an expensive surgery with uncertain outcomes or amputation. As a result, our dog now lives with a limp. I strongly advise against visiting this clinic. Their prices are exorbitant compared to other clinics, the staff is unprofessionally opinionated, and their practices are disorganized and unethical.

Alexa,

We are sorry to hear about your negative experience at our clinic. We strive to provide the best care for all animals that come through our doors. Very sick and unstable patients who arrive at our emergency department who need immediate life saving measures are required to provide a deposit to start that life saving process. Depending on the interventions that pet needs (which can vary and change from minute to minute depending on response or lack of) we cannot provide an exact detailed list of what that will entail. We support our doctors and teams in having the ability and freedom to make necessary choices and changes as needed to save a pets life. We take all feedback seriously and will use this as an opportunity to improve our communication around this request. If you would like to discuss your experience further, please feel free to contact us at (512) 892-9038.

Experiencia negativa: I wish I could rate them zero stars. Take your animals to another group! Trust me as someone who used to be a "customer" for 10 years. They need to learn how to provide patient first care and lead with empathy and compassion. For over 10 years the RR location was my listed emergency vet, and after interacting with this south location, I will never return to this emergency vet group again. Look at the other company around the corner who actually care for their patients with love and compassion.

Experiencia fantástica: Phenomenal. This veterinary practice is so deeply caring. Let alone super efficient. Attracts smart staff. I work with non-profit animal rescues and spay / neuter clinics. Nicole at the South Branch, was able to gather excess supplies (crates, collars, more), clean them, and donate all of them. Camron at Round Rock was also amazing. What she donated, recycled is priceless. The generosity, kindness, communication, and efficiency is absolutely outstanding.

Experiencia fantástica: My poor cat had to be seen by the emergency service this past Sunday. He waited to be seen about 2.5 hours since he was stable, which was in alignment with the time we were quoted. All of the veterinarians and staff we interacted with were kind, efficient, and professional. After getting x rays and a treatment plan, he was on his way. I am happy to say he is recovering well. Thank you for being there for us during a stressful time!

Experiencia negativa: I have waited too long to share about my own experience back in July of 2023, but I think it's time people know about my experience. That summer was the worst summer of my life. I took in my dog because he had a horrible infection from an injury and it needed draining, according to his vet. From the beginning CTVSE asked me to pay upfront a large sum of money. They told me I have to pay the max estimate for him to get treatment. I was hoping once he was discharged, that I would be reimbursed something back, so I hoped that the doctors would not have to go over because the amount was already so high. He stayed a few days more until it was fine for him to be back. During his time, I was told he needed more, but I pleaded for him to come back sooner to avoid more fees (I am a teacher, so I just can't afford more). And of course, not only did they use the entirety of what I had to put down, but they asked for even MORE to get him discharged. If they anticipated more, I wish they could have told me in the first place! I ended up paying more than I ever hoped I would for my sweet dog. There are no payment plans, the only thing they have is for you to apply for CareCredit, which I was not going to do. Everything must come out of pocket. I won't say the prices because they're just astronomical. The problem is that they ask you to pay a lot even when you at your lowest emotional state, i.e. me, who was anxious, crying, and sad, desperate. It's a very scammy move in my opinion, making people pay upfront, no pay plans or nothing, while they're sad and upset. I didn't think about what I was actually paying for until weeks later and I looked at my statements. Guys, I really hope your animal friends are healthy enough to never come here. While my main vet who attended my dog, Dr. Floyd, is a beautiful person and I adore her very much, the costs here are so insanely high. Also in the time I was there, the vet techs I found to be quite rude and cross (such as Jeannie/Jenn I believe was her name). But yes, scary place, and scary fees. I'm sort of conflicted. I don''t regret allowing my beautiful dog to live on longer, but the fact that it costs an arm and a leg to allow that to happen is the most heartbreaking thing ever. They tell you it costs a lot, and before you know it, they raise it up higher because they know you will pay. It's a bit emotionally manipulative, because they know your furry friend's life is at stake here. Now, I have a debt in my CC that will take forever for me to pay off. They ultimately cash out on your emotions. After all, it is a business. I hope to never come back here again. I'm thankful my dog is here and healthy now, but I never want this place to take my dog, or my money, ever again.

Experiencia fantástica: Sick cat needed care on New Year's Day, which was a Monday. Lobby wasn't crowded around 1pm, but there was an hour+ wait to be seen. Staff was friendly and caring. Treatment plan was drawn up after exam, and deposit was required (full amount) before leaving our cat. Unused amount was refunded when we picked him up on Thursday. Emergency care is expensive, and cat was very sick. This was the only Emergency vet open within 40 miles.

Experiencia fantástica: Dr. Nicole Antallfy and the team at the clinic took great care of our cat Mittens, when we brought him in Monday evening. They quickly assessed the situation and started treatment within an hour of us arriving. We received daily updates per phone, and could come in to see him on our own schedule. Everyone was so nice and helpful and made this whole process as pleasant as it could be all things considered. Today we picked Mittens up, and we received very detailed instructions and helpful tips for his care. So far he gobbled up the new cat food, went to the litter box twice, and just took his pill like a champ. Thank you all for everything you did to help our little guy get better. We appreciate you so much! Happy Thanksgiving!

Experiencia negativa: Took our pet here and they didn't understand his species. But they didn't tell us that until later when we called back. They said our pet was fine, but he was in distress with G.I. stasis and had not eaten nor pooped for over a 12 hr period. They do not let the parent inside the exam room along with the pet. We don't know what was done. After a $300+ charge our pet was no better off, not did we know any better on what to do. Do not recommend this hospital if you have an alternative.

Experiencia fantástica: My dog was bitten by a rattlesnake. CTVH staff were amazing with him. They immediately got him into an exam, ascertained the situation and got him started on the appropriate antivenin and pain meds. Without them i don’t know that my dog would still be with us! Highly recommend their services.

Experiencia negativa: Absolutely the worst veterinarian experience we have ever had! Took our dog from us, wouldn’t let us stay with her, never provided any updates. We are in our 70s and the chairs were very uncomfortable so I sent my husband back to the car with our other fur baby. I kept going up to the front desk about every 30 minutes and they never had any information for us. They made us pay over $4,000 in advance. We got there at 11 pm Sunday night and it wasn’t until around 1:40 am that I was finally called into a room. Waited another 10 minutes before a vet came in to give me all the worse possible scenarios in a not very warm manner. Still wouldn’t let me go see my dog - said they could bring her to me. I wasn’t about to make my poor dog, who was in extreme pain, vomiting, on an IV , be hauled out to come see me! It was an absolute nightmare. They said they would have to keep her for at least a couple days. So we went home totally distraught. Got a call around 8:30 Monday morning with the news that something had punctured her stomach and she’d developed a septic abdomen and only solution would be a very risky surgery that would cost 10-12 thousand dollars. Our girl was over 13 years old with kidney problems. There was no way we would subject her to this. I had told them from the beginning that we thought it was something she ate outside and that there had been twigs in her vomit! At least this particular vet I spoke to seemed to care. They should have done an ultrasound hours earlier - we had already paid for it and therefore authorized it! Sadly, we really had no choice but to euthanize our beloved Callie. We are devastated and unfortunately our grief is now combined with anger

Experiencia fantástica: One of the only places in Austin I could find late at night on Friday to give my cat multiple blood transfusions, they really helped us out through the emotional aspect and the medical one. I don't know what we would have done without them. Super thankful for all vet texts that dogs and front workers. My cat is currently in recovery and out of immediate danger, we are thankful for everyone here. They were also upfront with cost.

Experiencia negativa: I am very disappointed in the vet that I saw on Sunday evening. She was very curt, rude and it was all about the money. My dog Dallas had three puppies Saturday and I realized Saturday evening that the vet, I didn't get her name because I was so upset. She told me that I could not pay out the 3000 in payments, I don't have good credit so I could not pass the credit application. She was very judgmental on her part because I could not pay pet insurance, I cannot afford insurance for me. I am a great grandparent on a fixed income and I adopted my fur baby Dallas for support and company.. I even offered to give them the title of my car until I could pay in full. She kept saying that I needed to euthanize her and I wanted to give her a chance so I surrendered her to the Austin Animal Shelter so they could do the surgery. It killed me but I wanted what was best for her. The vet stated "you cannot have her back or adopt her in such a judgmental and hurtful way that I really got more upset. I have three of her puppies and she wouldn't even give me information on how to take care of the puppies. The front desk clerk Ashlin was very supportive and printed out the material on how to care for the puppies. She is a very positive person and comforted me and I could tell she was genuine. She is a definite asset of positive energy in an office where the vet could care less. I hope if this vet has animals of her own that she is more kind to them than she was to me. Shame on her,, she might have college sense but she doesn't have common sense, courtesy or compassion of a human being. I will never darken this vets doors again!

Alfred,
Thank you for sharing your experience at our hospital. We understand that emergency situations can be difficult when your pet is in need. The option to relinquish your pet to save their life is an option we provide as a last measure and we do have to clarify the details that go with this option. We apologize if our emergency doctor came across as judgmental, we work hard to do what is best for all parties involved. We understand how hard it is to relinquish your pet to save them, and we thank you for this selfless act. We will make sure to thank Ashlyn for her dedication to clients and for helping you with the care of the puppies you had to return home to. We wish you the best with those babies and thank you again for your review.

Experiencia fantástica: I just wanted to share that I have taken a few of our dogs here over the years, but last night we had an emergency with our senior dog that ended in putting our baby to sleep. The staff was so kind, caring, and respectful of our needs during such a painful time. We are sincerely grateful for the care we received.

Experiencia positiva: I give this clinic 3 stars based off of the fact that I truly feel they care about money first and your pet second. We were in an emergency situation with my rabbit, and this is the only emergency vet I know that will take rabbits until our usual vet opens during normal hours. I will say, when I brought him in the team was quick to act. What I didn’t like was that I was told I would immediately need to pay $1000 BEFORE they would start working on him and BEFORE they even had any idea what was actually going on with him. Fortunately, I was able to take care of the immediate charges, but imagine if there was someone who wouldn’t be able to afford $1000 upfront for their pet when the vets still had no idea what was going on with them! It wasn’t until LATER that it was explained to me that the $1000 is a “deposit” for care that may or may not be needed. If my rabbit didn’t require the full care amount of the deposit fee then I would be reimbursed whatever amount wasn’t used. Also, just FYI if you want them to try to resuscitate your animal in case needed just know the STARTING fee for that will be $400!! $400 for something that in my mind should be standard care at an emergency vet!! On one hand I understand because this would allow them to work on him without constantly having to consult with me about pricing in possible ongoing emergency situations, but on the other hand I don’t like that I was essentially forced to make a hard and expensive choice upfront before they hardly even knew what was going on. It also just feels a bit sketchy because to no surprise when it was all said and done of course they used the full amount of my deposit…. Plus some. I do hope the team did everything they could, but in the end my rabbit passed in their care. If my cat or dog had an emergency I don’t think I would bring them to this vet clinic.
