Experiencia fantástica: Amazing staff and team! I am so grateful to everyone who stepped up and took care of Charlie. They were with him on the floor, loving him, taking care of him. He is doing well now and it’s due to this facility and the team who work there. Above and beyond in my book ❤️

Experiencia negativa: Our dog got attacked by another dog. We live in Kyle and our emergency vet couldn’t get him in because they had other emergencies so they referred us to VEG. VEG was very loving and helpful. Our dog is difficult and doesn’t like vets but they did everything they could to help him. Why two stars? Our dog had surgery and they didn’t wrap his foot. They knew that he was VERY active. He needs the stability of a bandage. Well last night he bled all over the bathroom. He was wearing a cone and moved very little because of the anesthesia but the foot just kept bleeding. We are now at our emergency vet in Kyle trying to see what the next steps are.

Experiencia negativa: We were there for almost 3hours and all they did was test my puppy which took 30min and got moved to another room to wait longer for them to just check her temperature and leave for another 30min+. Nothing was given to help my puppy feel better as she came positive for parvo, so many workers not one came to give her something to help. We left since no one was coming and got charged $348 for TWO things(temperature and a test for parvo)

Experiencia fantástica: Dr Ellie, Noemi and Rachel were outstanding providing care for my Gigi (yorkie) after she was attacked by a Pitbull, Rachel was so kind and reassuring during the initial phone call and when we arrived, Noemi and Dr Ellie treated her with gentleness and calmed my anxiety, Thank you for all you did for our Gigi

Experiencia fantástica: My pup was definitely not the most critical, but they made us feel important and valued. The service was timely and detailed, and nothing felt rushed or dismissive, which is hard to get at an ER. They talked me through everything and were so considerate and kind.

Experiencia negativa: I have a 7yo dog I took to this clinic on 2/20. She is undergoing chemo for a separate issue and she almost fainted for 15 sec when I was feeding her. I rushed her to them as they were closest to me and rated very well. I would say the nursing/assistant staff that attended us was great and polite. They kept checking if we needed anything and regularly monitored my dog. The front desk was nice as well. The best part was that we were with our dog all the time so we knew what was happening. Now the most concerning part : We had to call them multiple times after 2 days because the reports hadn't reached our primary vet and oncologist as promised. They said they weren't ready and finally sent them over(including us) after another call. We checked her heart rate at home after she fainted and it was 38bpm with irregular heartbeats, so we panicked and took her to the vet. In her reports the vet has mentioned her heart rate to be 100bpm. I was right there and have pictures that it was never ever 100bpm. It fluctuated from 55 to 63bpm which was on the lower side. She has arrhythmia(which was in the report). There is no note/data of her blood pressure on the report which was significantly high. Why this is important? These reports are shared with our primary vet, oncologists and cardiologist. The team will make the decision based on this data if she is ready for radiation therapy and can be put under anesthesia. I have to call each of these specialist vets and explain them that the bpm in the report is incorrect and explain them the blood pressure variation as well. This is really horrible, after paying thousand $$$ , I can't even expect the report to reflect accurate data.

Experiencia fantástica: I was nervous to go to a new emergency place since Central Texas Veterinary knows us and our pets. VEG blew me away..took us in right away, the veterinarian was so sweet. Morgan was too. They were thorough and quick. While the tech was giving our pup fluids he was kissing her on the head❤️ I will use this emergency hospital from now on..thank you so much, Charlie and family

Experiencia negativa: I called to try to get an understanding of what I could do for my cat while I’m traveling and trying to get home. “Dr. B” was so extremely rude the moment she picked up the phone, it was completely obvious I was inconveniencing her. After explaining that I am just trying to stabilize my cat to get her back home because I am only visiting, she just kept repeating herself as if I was some kind of idiot. Saying that she cannot prescribe any medication without seeing her & evaluating her (yes of course this is a no brainer but apparently she felt the need to tell me this 3 times!) - She went on to say that she would then offer the recommended test’s & treatment plan. (Aka I’m going to run your bill up as high as I can and then tell you there isn’t anything I can do for you.) I asked her if she was going to have some compassion & understand the situation that I’m in and what I’m trying to accomplish was to just get her a simple diuretic to help with her edema so I could get her home & then have her further evaluated/make the decision to put her down. But of course she doesn’t want to hear that because that means no money for her. Such a shame there is no compassion or understanding on a case by case basis anymore - you are just treated like a number.

Experiencia negativa: Here’s a professional and effective way to express your frustration while keeping your review credible and impactful: ⭐ 1-Star Review for VEG Emergency Pet Hospital I had an extremely disappointing experience at VEG Emergency Pet Hospital. When I brought my dog in for an urgent situation, the level of attention and care was shockingly poor. Despite clearly explaining the severity of my dog’s condition, the staff seemed disorganized and indifferent. We waited an unreasonable amount of time before anyone took our concerns seriously, and even then, the overall attitude felt rushed and dismissive. What upset me the most was the lack of genuine compassion or urgency—something you’d expect at an emergency facility. It felt like my pet was just another case on a list, not a living being in real distress. For an emergency hospital there was a lack of urgency while the staff yaked it up in the back area. I truly hope they take steps to improve how they handle critical situations and show more empathy toward the animals—and the owners—who turn to them in moments of panic and fear. I would strongly encourage others to consider alternative options if they want attentive, compassionate emergency care for their pets.

Experiencia negativa: I took my bunny here they did a ten minute check up and sent me home with probiotics and stomach lining medicine. Her health declined the next day she wasn’t eating nor pooping despite what they had said. I had dropped all the money I had and trusted she’d be fine. They didn’t “feel” as she didn’t need any labs or medical help. If I would’ve known she’d die in my arms today I would’ve never taken her here off of a “feeling” she’s “okay”. Blood in her stool is never okay. I lost my bunny today. I also called and told them I didn’t have the funds to get her seen again and one of the front desk lady’s said to “save a trip” get oxbow and syringe feed her. Turns out the made her probably do faster. I’m so disappointed and I wasted the little money I had saved up to save her was wasted.

Experiencia fantástica: The staff at VEG were so sweet and thoughtful when we brought our Moka in. He was not doing well, but the techs, doctor, and receptionist were all so supportive to us during this hard time. We were offered seating to spend our last day with him. The overnight doctor called us and was very honest and caring when she took over. Although Moka did not make it home with us, his final moments were very special and memorable. I am so grateful for the staff. Facility was clean and comfortable. I hope I wont have to return with other pets, but if that is the case this will be my first choice

Experiencia fantástica: Any time you bring your dog to an emergency vet, you are filled with dread. When I arrived at Veterinary Emergency Group, I was initially anxious, but the staff immediately put my worries at ease. I appreciated the way the team took their time to evaluate my dog, considering all possible explanations for her discomfort, without rushing through the examination. The open environment allowed me to stay with my dog throughout the visit. All of the staff were exceptionally professional and compassionate, taking the time to explain every procedure and answer all my questions. Overall, my experience was exceptional, and I cannot express how grateful I am for the care my dog received.

Experiencia fantástica: My little shadow needed emergency surgery and VEG took the bestest care of my bestest girl! I was triaged within 5 min of arriving. My precious little baby was assessed and we had a plan in place with in 20 min. Even after all was said and done and we got home, I called to run symptoms past the doctors and staff and they made me feel confident that I could take care of her at home! I won’t trust anyone else my emergency care for my fur babies!

Experiencia fantástica: I just want to thank everyone from the 1/30 and 1/31 staff (Dr. Q and the Dr. who took over for her the next day, Gina, Morgan, Marysol and everyone else) for taking such good care of my child, Amarah, in an emergency situation and making sure I didn’t lose her. I am forever grateful for yall making a stressful situation much less so and appreciate everything. I hope we don’t end up seeing yall on a Friday night again but if we ever do, I have great peace of mind that there’s a place that can take such good care of her (and me lol) in that kind of situation. Thank you thank you!

Experiencia fantástica: These veterinary professionals were able to take care of my very sick dog during a terrible ice storm here in the Austin area. My local vet and the closer emergency vet couldn’t see us, but as soon as we went in, we were taken care of at VEG. Everything was perfect… YOU CAN TELL THEY ALL LOVE WHAT THEY DO FOR A LIVING.We were taught how to take care of Beebs at home. Can’t say enough positive.

Experiencia fantástica: The staff was all incredibly supportive, patient and kind. We unexpectedly had to say goodbye to our kitty, Zlatan, after he began to have trouble breathing. The doctor was clear and helpful in her explanation of our options. When we made the decision to say goodbye, we were encouraged to spend as much time as we needed in our final moments. We were thankful to have this peaceful time and appreciate that Zlatan didn’t suffer and was treated with respect.

Experiencia fantástica: I cannot say enough kind things about April and Dr. Max. After my lab, Blaze, got into some Advil liquid gels, I was terrified and completely overwhelmed. From the moment we arrived, April was incredibly attentive, compassionate, and calming. She didn’t just take care of my Blazey boy—she took care of me too. April met me on a true human-to-human level, reassuring me, listening without judgment, and helping calm my racing thoughts during such a scary moment. Her kindness and empathy meant more than she probably knows. Dr. Max was thorough, knowledgeable, and reassuring, taking the time to explain everything clearly and making sure Blaze received exactly the care he needed. Together, they made an incredibly stressful situation feel manageable and safe. I am beyond grateful for their compassion, professionalism, and genuine love for animals and their people. Blaze is so lucky to have been in their care, and so am I. Thank you, April and Dr. Max, from the bottom of my heart. ❤️

Experiencia fantástica: Dr. Lucas and his team were amazing. We would like to say a special thank you to Nurse Corinne, who my husband and I watched try to revive my dogs puppy for over an hour. While the puppy unfortunately didn’t make it, we left knowing he was in the best hands possible and every means necessary was taken to try and get him to breathe. We will always be thankful for you Corinne. And Dr. Lucas, who performed our emergency surgery and got our sweet Harbor back home safe to us. Also a special thank you to Morgan, who welcomed us with a smile during a scary time and even got us coffee which was much needed after staying up 30+ hours with our dog in labor. Thank you guys so much and everyone else involved for everything you all did. You will all always have a special place in our hearts. A big thank you from Harbor too, if she could talk she’d say you were all amazing❤️

Experiencia fantástica: I had an incredible experience with VEG in south Austin during a very frightening moment. From the very first phone call, the entire team led with heart, urgency, and compassion. I had just learned my dog, Bonnie, had a massive splenic mass (later found to weigh 8.5 pounds) that could rupture at any moment, yet another emergency clinic told me surgery wouldn’t be possible for weeks. When I called VEG, Dr. Lisa answered and immediately said, “Come now.” That moment alone meant everything! She recognized the urgency and helped me navigate an incredibly difficult decision with empathy and clarity. She is such a kind person! Dr. Nina, who performed Bonnie’s surgery, was outstanding. When I met her, I immediately felt reassured because she had such a calm confidence. This was a very high risk surgery, but I felt like we were in the best place we could be. And I was right because surgery was a success! The nurses and techs - Noemy, Kelsey, and Gina - were also amazing. They stayed in constant communication and made me feel informed, included, and genuinely cared for every step of the way. I’ve never experienced veterinary care like this. VEG didn’t just care for my dog. They cared for me and my whole family, and I will always be grateful.

Experiencia fantástica: If you have a pet emergency, this is a wonderful place to go. They have an interesting "open concept" triage, but all of the pets are so well behaved and cared for. Their care is very integrated, careful, and attentive to each pet's needs. I loved the way each vet and nurse took their time with each patient, showing love as well as quality care. They're all saints.

Experiencia fantástica: I cannot speak highly enough of my experience here, even though we unfortunately ended up leaving without my dog. We brought my dog in with concern of a mass rupturing and was met with immediate action. I wasn't put in a waiting room but had a very nice receptionist pull me in a room to help me fill out paperwork. Shortly after a vet told me about my dogs condition, and what the recomended care was. Being with my young daughter I was overcome with emotions and very overwhelmed. The receptionist took my 6yo daughter and got her hot chocolate and coloring pages while I talked to the vet and finished paperwork. After having to put my dog down one of the techs walked in and since I was there with my parents, she made nose and paw prints for all of us to have. It really is the little things that matter so much in these times. I couldn't be happier with the experience, even thought we couldn't take my dog with us today. Cremation services were also surprisingly cheap compared to what I have been quoted.

Experiencia negativa: I brought my pregnant Yorkie to Austin VEG during an active labor emergency. An X-ray and ultrasound were performed, and we were clearly shown that one puppy still had a heartbeat but was malpositioned. I was then quoted an extremely high cost for emergency surgery that was not financially possible for me. No alternative options, reduced-scope care, or meaningful discussion of what could be done within a more realistic cost were offered — only the full, very expensive option. Because of this, I was forced to leave and seek care elsewhere. My veterinarian was able to perform an emergency C-section, but by the time surgery occurred, the puppy had died. I understand emergency veterinary care is expensive. However, in a time-sensitive situation where a living puppy was confirmed, it was deeply upsetting to feel there was no flexibility, no problem-solving, and no attempt to bridge the gap between cost and urgent care. In this case, pricing — not medical urgency — determined the outcome. I am sharing this so other pet owners understand what to expect when faced with an emergency and financial limitations.

Experiencia fantástica: The team at VEG in South Austin was awesome. My dog Bailey had had 2 seizures within a 6 hour period on New Year's Eve morning. My regular vet recommended VEG. I LOVE the openness of the facility. I've always hated watching my pet be taken behind closed doors and not knowing what is happening. I love that pet owners can stay with their pets during treatment. I was not able to stay as my mom was in the hospital too. The staff was very understanding and texted and called me with updates. It was very comforting to know that my dogs was in great hands so I could focus on my mom. Both my mom and my dog are home now and doing well.

Experiencia fantástica: They got us in right away and the vet was there immediately to check on our parrot. His nose was bleeding... She quickly treated him and gave us some extra medicine in case it started up again. They were very good with him and did not scare him. We were very nervous and they were calm and kind. Happy to report that Goober is doing good now!

Experiencia negativa: Last night, I chose this emergency vet because of their stellar reviews. But I was left sobbing in a corner with the lights off for hours, hidden from staff, who at one point called me delirious because I started crying because they hadn’t come to check on me in an hour. One staff member literally said to the other as I turned back to go check on my dog and said, “Don’t apologize! She’s delirious! She’s been crying since she got here.” I was very scared and crying because I’d never seen my dog in so much pain before, but I definitely was not delirious and had time stamped texts to my friend to show the staff I really had been ignored for an hour when they eventually came by again to ask if I had questions. They never apologized until I called this morning to file a formal complaint. The worst part wasn’t just that they dismissed me but that they dismissed my dog’s pain. When they took him back to x-ray him, he yelped and whimpered, so I asked if they could try to pick him up another way. The nurse/tech snapped at me, cut off my sentence, and said they had to carry him and since he’d already been given pain meds and sedation, he was fine. Every time he reacted or yelped and I asked if they could try something different, they had the same dismissive reaction. I just felt so helpless and unable to help my pet. Every time they came to talk to me I felt dismissed. The nicest they were to me was when they finally discharged him and helped me carry his crate to the car. I appreciated the small gesture, but I had already been through so much that night. I understand it was late at night and an emergency vet is a stressful place to work, but the staff treated me and my dog horrendously, and we will never be back. For all the people on here who have said they had great experiences with the vets here, I wish I’d gotten that level of treatment. Update: I’m attaching pictures from that night showing how staff hid us in a hallway away from the open concept triage area, and then turned off the lights, forgot we were there, and tried to cover it up in their notes. The first picture shows us when we arrived, around midnight. The next shows when they turned off the lights, around 2 AM. The third photo is a screenshot of the vet records they sent me at my request. The time of treatment does not line up with the messages I have from that night. The following texts show time stamped updates to a few friends who were awake. One also shows me describing how they dismissed my dog’s pain when carrying him to the x-ray. The vet told me they would discharge him with pain meds and referrals, which I texted my friend about at 2:47 after the vet walked away. I flagged down a staff member going to the restroom around 3:20 AM and asked her to check on the meds and referrals. She said she would and never came back. When I went back to find staff, it was 20 minutes after that request. That was when I burst into tears again and the staff called me delirious. A few minutes later, a tech came by to ask if she could help. After I picked up my phone to show the texts, she said, “Well, someone came in with a dying cat so I had to take care of that first.” When I said I understood but that it had been an hour since I’d gotten an update, she said that they were waiting on bloodwork and radiography, which was not at all what the vet told me and not what my texts show either. They were making excuses to justify forgetting I was there with my pet. The entire time I was waiting alone in the dark, I could hear staff making small talk and being chatty with each other, while ignoring me. When I came into the open concept triage room, the staff member I’d flagged down jumped and cursed under her breath because she’d forgotten I was there. And for more evidence they forgot I was there: I heard them say they had a muzzle and towel in the x-ray waiting for my dog (screenshot included). I paid an entire semester of my graduate school tuition for my dog and I to be treated this way and there is no one trying to make it right.

Experiencia fantástica: VEG literally saved my pup’s life. The vets here are highly educated, incredibly kind & personable, and just overall exactly the type of people you need when your pet is sick. They move quickly and efficiently, they take the time to answer questions despite being busy. I was having a full blown meltdown in the middle of their clinic out of exhaustion and fear and dealing w it all by myself, and they took the time to talk to me. They really do give their all and i am so thankful for them.

Experiencia fantástica: Great experience at VEG. It's obvious that every employee that works there loves animals. The open concept was weird at first, but I got to stay with my pupper THE ENTIRE TIME THEY TREATED HER. It was so nice to be able to be with my dog while she was in this normally stressful environment. I had a great experience and highly recommended VEG when you have a pet emergency.

Experiencia fantástica: My dog died at home suddenly in the middle of the night and this was the closest emergency vet. I am happy to say that this was the most compassionate end of life care that I could have asked for. It was 3am and the staff immediately took us to a private room when we arrived and gave us all of the time we needed to spend a few last moments with our pup. They were patient and kind as we discussed cremation options, as well. I will be forever grateful that they helped make a traumatic experience less stressful.

Experiencia fantástica: My Celia was very sick and refusing to eat or drink. The Doctor and Nurse found a course of treatment that made sense to me and handled my pet wonderfully. My pet is recovering well and my home vet agrees with the course of treatment and will continue with it in the future. It has been a good experience. I have never been to an emergency animal care center before.

Experiencia fantástica: I took my dog chispa on Christmas Day, I was really worried it was our first time in the ER. It turned out she had a urine infection. The vet and staff were amazing, really clear on the instructions and helped me come up with a plan for follow up. I called a couple days later with a couple questions and were able to talk to the vets on staff. Also if you save receipts… you can get reimbursed depending on dog insurance.

Experiencia fantástica: In a better world, I wouldn't be leaving this review tonight. Thankfully, the experience was the best it could be given the circumstances. My 15 year old cat Blair had a long history of medical issues. She'd been on a steady medication regime for about 5 years and just started a new medication for her thyroid. All this to say, I know she hasn't been at perfect health for a while, but when she started wheezing this morning, I knew that was a red flag. Her breathing was very labored, she didnt want to be touched, wouldn't eat, and then peed on my bed, which she has never done before. Our vet didn't have any availabilities for the day by the time I was able to call, so my husband and I took her to VEG. We were seen immediately, and everybody at the clinic worked with a really calming efficiency. They took her vitals, identified fluid in her lungs, got her some oxygen, and then sent a cost estimate for the potential tests. Here's the thing - we lost our other cat earlier this year, about the same amount of time after starting her on the medication Blair just started, so we were skeptical about the necessity of all of the tests. Dr. B was very honest and frank with us about Blair's health. She looked over her past blood work and vitals and let us know that our Blair was in end stage, and getting the fluid out of her lungs would be... difficult, likely impossible given her current health. And taking her home tonight would mean risking her passing in a painful way. So with the help of the VEG staff, we said goodbye to my best friend of 15 years tonight. I would have rather been able to do it at home, but I wouldn't risk making her last moments a struggle for anything. They had a nice private room and let us spend time with her there until we were ready, and even got prints of her nose and paw for us in ink. Thank you, even though this sucked a lot, you were all very supportive and kind.

Experiencia negativa: Use this place at your own risk! 1 star is way too much for them. On Nov.3 I took my dog in because he was having obvious signs of vision issues. I also noticed that he was lethargic and not himself. They did nothing! I had to point out that my dog had swollen lymph nodes because the doctor failed to mention it. I was present for the entire exam to which I saw nothing but him pressing around on my dog. I would say we were there less than an hour for the doctor to determine... He has vision issues. No answers nothing. I had to ask for pain meds because it was obvious he was in pain. I asked for antibiotics or penicillin to which I was denied. I was then slapped with a $250 bill for telling me the obvious. Fast forward two days later (and another vet bill). My dog had an eye infection! Thanks VEG

Experiencia negativa: ** Update-they never reached out!!! DO NOT TAKE YOUR PET HERE. We had a very disappointing experience at this emergency vet. We paid $1,600 and left with no clear answers about what was wrong with our dog. When we asked about next steps, we were told that additional testing and monitoring would cost another $3,200, which felt excessive given how little information we were given up to that point. What was most frustrating is that we had to take our dog to our regular vet the very next day, where we could receive actual help. Unfortunately, the emergency vet had suggested medication to be mixed with food, despite the fact that our dog could not eat because she was so sick. This visit felt like a complete waste of time and money during an already stressful situation. We went there expecting urgent care and guidance, and instead felt pushed toward expensive testing without meaningful help. I would not recommend this place. It felt far more focused on billing than on the well-being of our animal.

Experiencia fantástica: VEG saved my dog’s life today! The exceptional care our dog received helped to extend the life of a pup that is truly irreplaceable to my family We brought our dog into VEG during an unexpected emergency and every single staff member of VEG worked diligently to keep my husband and I informed on the status and prognosis of our very loved dog Dixie. Not only did they care for Dixie, but they were exceptionally kind to my husband and I who were a mess throughout the night while trying to make the best decisions for a dog we love dearly. They allowed us to stay with her constantly and provided our dog with the best care imaginable. I would recommend this emergency clinic to any pet owner I know!

Experiencia fantástica: My husband and I just left VEG on Christmas night and wanted to share how positive our experience was. Every person on staff was kind, attentive and shared in detail what the care plan was for our dog. The emergency vet can be stressful but we felt at ease being in their care.

Experiencia negativa: DO NOT TAKE YOUR PET HERE!!!! Poor bedside manner and lack of attention and care was given to my dog that was clearly in distress. We were told it was a muscle problem and to treat with NSAIDs. Symptoms got worse over night and required us to make another trip to the Emergency Vet (a separate and much better one), where the doctor stated my dog needed emergency surgery to treat. I feel like this vet took advantage of us and charged us an exorbitant amount as well. While I don’t think all the doctors are guilty of this poor bedside manner, we will be avoiding this emergency vet and all its locations to avoid those who are.

Experiencia negativa: HORRIBLE experience with Dr. Q. Dr. Q told us that my kitten had the worst fever she had ever seen and that his symptoms were very concerning. She emphasized that the top priority was to immediately bring the fever down with IV fluids, and that if this was done quickly, my kitten might not need to stay overnight. Despite this urgency, we were left waiting for over an hour with no treatment started and no communication. Given how critical she described my kitten’s condition, this was extremely distressing. I approached a nurse to ask why no action had been taken yet. Instead of addressing the delay or my kitten’s care, Dr. Q came out and accused me of yelling at her staff—which I did not do. I was clearly anxious and scared for my kitten’s life. I then asked her to continue the conversation with my partner and stated that I authorized my partner to make decisions on my behalf. She refused and told me that she would not speak to my partner, and that if I didn’t like it, I could leave. The position she put me in was unbelievable: comply or walk out, despite my kitten being in a critical state. There was a complete lack of compassion, communication, and regard for my kitten’s wellbeing. I would never trust this doctor with an animal in an emergency again.

Experiencia fantástica: I can’t say enough good things about the care Noelle received at VEG South Lamar on Sunday 12/14/2025, especially from vet tech Mandy and Dr. Johnson. Our rescue has brought multiple dogs to VEG over the years and we’ve always received excellent care, but this experience felt different. The moment Noelle came through the door, Mandy and Dr. Johnson treated her with urgency, compassion, and a level of personal care that made it feel like we had brought in their own dog. Noelle came in with an embedded collar and a severe neck wound. It was scary, emotional, and time-sensitive. Mandy was calm, kind, and incredibly attentive, never once making us feel rushed or dismissed. Dr. Johnson jumped into action with confidence and empathy, explaining everything clearly while prioritizing Noelle’s comfort and safety. They didn’t just treat a medical emergency. They treated Noelle like she mattered, and they treated us like partners in her care. Thank you both for everything you did for Noelle.

Experiencia fantástica: I recently visited VEG on South Lamar after my dog was attacked late in the evening, so my vet was not open. I was very impressed by everyone working at this facility but Dr. Lisa Buehler really went above and beyond. She examined my injured pup quickly and gave him the best care I could’ve asked for. She also followed up with a thorough health report and care instructions. I’m so grateful for the wonderful experience I had during such a traumatic time. Highly recommend to all!

Experiencia negativa: I took my dog here twice for a seizure. Unfortunately a weekend. $250 for them to look at her for 5 minutes and say she was fine. She had another seizure hours later. They wanted to charge me around $5,000 just to monitor her. This just was putting her in a cage with an iv. I called a vet friend from out of state. She said that was insane. I had to tell the vets what medicine to give her. It worked instantly. A simple seizure med. They were willing to let my dog die unless I paid over $5k. They should have given her the seizure medicine the first visit. And guess what this medicine costs there? $250 for half a month. From my regular vet.. $20 for a month. I get that it’s an er and they have to up charge but that’s insane but the craziest thing is they are willing to risk a pet’s life for profit. My dog has been 4 months and doing great since the seizure medicine recommended from another vet. If I would have taken their advice, my dog would probably be dead and I would be $10k in the whole

Experiencia negativa: Would never go there or tell anyone to go there!! They literally charged me $600 for one xray not multiple Xray like they said.. only to see what they showed me on the ultrasound that’s crazy, I basically got charged for the same thing. And after all the money i spent they still said we don’t know what’s wrong with him!!! Put something up his peeing hole and he came home peeing blood which scared me!!! And they wouldn’t do anything more tell you paid that’s not an emergency vet that cares that’s a place that wants money!!! And I had to keep asking when I would know the results and I kept getting brushed off and my husband asking questions and nurses were getting irritated!!! Like why the hell !!! I think i should get Reimbursed some of my orient back cause you literally did an ultrasound and xray of the same thing !!! Why would you do that to me and charge me an outrageous payment especially if you didn’t know it have a clue what was wrong with him that’s crazy !!!

Experiencia fantástica: The team at VEG ER made what was one of the worst days of my life as tolerable as possible. I came in around 0400 with my chihuahua, Dallas, and they immediately met him with care and me with grace. Throughout the entire diagnostic process they were communicative and sincere. Ultimately I had to make the choice to put my best friend down. The team there was so patient with me as I tried to ask questions, I know it wasn’t easy talking to me in that state. They let me have others join me and I even got to bring my other dog so she could say goodbye to her brother. When it came time to send Dallas off, we were in a private room and never once rushed. Obviously losing my best friend was a terrible experience, but the doctors & techs here really did make it as not-awful as possible. I’m so grateful they could stop Dallas’s suffering. If I ever need emergency care for my other pup, I’ll definitely be coming here.

Experiencia fantástica: We received great care from Dr. Johnson and the team at VEG. Our dog is really sensitive and Dr. Johnson took extra care to put her in an area where she would have a lot of attention throughout the day we had to leave her. Experiencia fantástica: I can’t say enough good things about this ER vet. I came in late at night worried sick because my dog, Kevin, was having what looked like seizures. They had zero wait time, got us seen immediately, and every single person I interacted with was incredibly friendly, calm, and reassuring. They examined him thoroughly, figured out the issue right away (a twig stuck on the roof of his mouth!), and even offered to watch him overnight at no charge just to make sure he was okay. When we left, they didn’t charge me for the visit at all — something I absolutely didn’t expect, and it meant so much. It’s rare to find a place that treats both pets and owners with this level of care and compassion. I’m beyond grateful for how they took care of Kevin and for the peace of mind they gave me. Highly recommend this team to anyone who needs emergency vet care.

Experiencia fantástica: Our pup Cashew came in after eating well over 100 raisins and was in critical condition, as he could have died from kidney failure. Dr. Davis explained calmly the seriousness of the situation without creating panic. We were advised correctly that he should be placed in care overnight and he stayed 72 hours. She shared the charts of creatinine and BUN levels to help us understand what was going on in his kidneys. Everyone on staff was extremely kind and compassionate. We were allowed to be with him during blood draws, and to visit/open his kennel and be with him as often as we wanted. They all showed Cashew tons of love during his 3 days there and made him feel part of their family. They let him out for walks (frequency of walk breaks wasn’t as much as he normally gets at first, but they accommodated the request to let him out more because of his small bladder and continuous fluids) and gave him lots of pets. Overall incredible care. The survival of our dog was the top priority and helping us understand what was going on was very helpful. Great experience given the life or death circumstances of the situation.

Experiencia fantástica: We had a great experience at VEG, in a very scary situation. The staff attended to our Bailey quickly, and wth care and concern. They let us know what to expect in the way of procedures, and expense. We had to wait for test results, but that was expected, and I'd rather not rush tests and get unclear, or wrong, results.

Experiencia negativa: PLEASE do not come here unless you are prepared for extremely poor veterinary advice that could seriously put your dog’s health at risk. I brought my dog in because she was sick. They told me she might have early bronchopneumonia even though her X-rays were clear. An ultrasound showed a small questionable area, but they reassured me from the start that they were “not worried at all” about her being oxygen-dependent and that she appeared stable. The next day, when her coughing worsened, I called and was told it was “completely normal.” By day four, she still wasn’t improving, so I brought her back. The experience that night was awful. The overnight veterinarian was extremely rude, and when Dr. Kirsti Novikoff came on shift, she was even worse. She told me it wasn’t “worth spending my money” on my dog because they didn’t know whether it was early bronchopneumonia or congestive heart failure. That either way she wasn't going to make it. They even told me my dog was at “graveyard,” yet still couldn’t provide a clear diagnosis. When I asked for a second opinion at another clinic, Dr. Novikoff refused to unhook my dog’s IV and would not let me take her elsewhere. It genuinely felt like they were preventing me from taking my own dog out of the clinic. To make everything worse, when I reviewed the bill later, they had charged me the full amount for services they didn’t even perform. I had to dispute the charges myself, and had I not done that, they would have gotten away with it. Please, if you are already there, get a SECOND opinion. I am incredibly grateful that I went elsewhere and got a second opinion and didn't stick to euthanasia, which is the only thing they were offering me. Yes, this visit was a year ago exactly, (11/20/24-11/24/24) but the amount of time that has passed doesn’t excuse what happened during that appointment. My review reflects the care and behavior we experienced, and I believe it’s still important for others to be aware, regardless of when it occurred. The vet that initially took her in was the one who told us she was "grave yard" not Dr. Novikoff. Therefore, Dr. Novikoff isnt the only problem.

Experiencia fantástica: Recently, our 10 month old pup needed a visit to VEG for digestive issues. Right away, the VEG team displayed high professionalism and emotional intelligence while caring for our dog; everyone from the front desk to the medical team were caring and attentive. Specifically, Nurse Noemi and Dr. Lisa Buehler were informative in explaining the treatment plan options, patient while we decided the best course of action and quick to take remediating steps towards a solution. Experiencia negativa: Unfortunately my wife and I had a bad experience. My dog was throwing up all day and we took him here out of concern. When we got in they weighed him and checked us in. The vet took a look at him and said he was salivating that is all. They then brought in a bill for $1500 saying they will have to run tests to see if he is ok. We said no and would like to have him seen somewhere else. They said they did a full exam and demanded a $200 payment for the exam. We felt misled and tricked into having to pay. We eneded up asking for nausea medication as we felt it would have been a wasted visit otherwise. Will not be going back and would not recommend this place.

Experiencia fantástica: My pet was carefully and lovingly cared for, in an expedient manner. She was itching her neck so bad she was bleeding, they cleaned her up very well. Experiencia negativa: Called ahead and was told I could bring my dog in they had availability so I brought her in for broken sutures and bleeding which we spoke about 10 minutes later, was told to wait because another patient was dying which is completely understandable but not mentioned previously. When I asked for napkins or something to stop the bleeding I was told to wait that a doctor would be right with me. Because of the open floor plan I could see other people not assisting with that patient so I believed they could've brought me a napkin or gauze so i asked again. There was a literal pool of blood on the floor from my dog. So when I asked again a nurse told me not to worry about it. So I grabbed napkins from the coffee station and cleaned her up and the blood off the floor myself so she wouldnt step in it. I was then told it was going to be a long time and I could find another vet. No judgement on vet skills here, just wish they were more honest about wait times, and if the open floor plan is the move they should communicate more effectively what they are doing when saying there is no one to help, especially if we can see everything and it appears people are available to assist

Experiencia fantástica: The absolute best emergency VET in Austin TX. Dr Nina and Dr Connor are nothing short of miracle workers. My dog Cairo was terribly sick with a grim prognosis (25% chance of survival). They performed emergency surgery which was a success, but only half the battle. He had sepsis and trying to recovery from intestinal surgery while having sepsis and being a 12 year old pitbull, was going to take a miracle to get through. Luckily for us, VEG allows you to be with your pup the entire time they are there. And I mean the entire time. They provided an entire private room for my wife and Cairo to stay in while Cairo recovers from surgery/sepsis. The room has a couch with a pull out bed which was perfect for my wife and Cairo to cuddle in while he recovered. Fast forward 3 days and Cairo has been discharged! I am convinced that being allowed to stay with our dog while he recovered, was instrumental to his recovery. He never had to worry about where he was or where we were the entire time he was there, which allowed him to rest and focus on recovering. His swift recovery really surprised us all. He still isn’t out of the woods, but the hard part is past us now thanks to VEG! And thanks to all the nurses that participated in Cairo’s recovery. There were at least 6 that helped look after our pup and I can’t thank them all enough.

Experiencia negativa: I was in your clinic for a total of 6 hours. When my cat Milo and I arrived, his temperature was taken externally and it was identified that he had a fever. We then waited 3 hours to have his blood drawn and x-rays taken. Never in those 3 hours did anyone offer anything to reduce his fever. After we waited another almost 4 hours for his blood and x-ray results (which I was told would take an hour), I was told that his bloodwork only indicated that he was dehydrated (which after reviewing the results with my primary vet, that evaluation was highly inaccurate). The blood results were never actually reviewed with me, just the short statement about dehydration, which was obvious without the bloodwork. At 3:15 AM after being in your clinic all night with little actual care being administered, he was given a nausea shot, subcutaneous fluids and we were sent home. Also, I was supposed to be given an antibiotic that evening but it was forgotten and I could not pick it up until the next day. The next day i took him to our family vet, and his fever was worse.... he died later that day. Upon reviewing bloodwork with our family vet, its apparent that he had an infection and complications from having an untreated fever as well as a possible underlying cancer diagnosis. I was honestly appalled by the service we received at your clinic, as I was treated like we were not a priority at all. Also, him not being given any sort of fever reducer at all during our 6 hours there is borderline negligent. I am requesting a full refund as my cat and I spent some of his last hours waiting and waiting for your staff to basically do nothing for him. Not reviewing bloodwork, that clearly had abnormalities that were glossed over is another huge issue. I will never be bringing another pet to your clinic. My family lost a treasured member this week and I can't help but think that if your clinic had treated his symptoms differently, he might have survived.

Here they met me at the door and immediately walked me over to triage my dog and made me feel relieved and lime everything was under control. They had extreme care with her and went over all the possibilities and went through ruling them out and investigating. They also gave us snacks and had a sparkling water machine with vitamins and caffeine. The staff was all incredibly friendly and compassionate and made us feel okay in one of our most scared moments. Experiencia fantástica: My dog got into some chocolate and after calling my primary vet, they recommended seeking emergency care. I found VEG and immediately called. From the first phone call to them walking me out the door, I was so appreciative of how kind, knowledgable, positive, and attentive every Vet tech and Dr was. They administered nausea medicine and my dog was able to purge majority of the chocolate he ingested. They gave him some fluids and anti nausea medicine and gave me clear instructions on what to monitor for the next few days. The vet space was open concept and very clean. I thought the open concept might not work for my reactive dog, but I think the calm environment and ability to see what was going on throughout the room actually calmed him. All the techs were very kind and understanding when he did display some reactivity, too. If my dog is ever in need of emergency care, I will not hesitate to take him back to VEG. thank you to all the staff!

Experiencia fantástica: I cannot recommend VEG enough. I had to take my senior dog to this location after she was attacked by our foster dog, and the VEG team was attentive, compassionate, and quick. I called them on my way to the facility, and they were patient and informative, giving me as many details as they could over the phone and encouraging me when I became emotional and scatter-brained. They took great care of my Nola girl, and we were in and out within a couple of hours (pretty much unheard of at an emergency vet facility). In some ways, I hope I never have to visit them again, but I'm grateful to know that if something happens to my beloved pets, there's a reliable and affordable place to take them. Thanks so much to the VEG team for taking care of our sweet animals with love and expertise.

Experiencia fantástica: Though the diagnosis of our dear Heeler friend Mojo was dire, we experienced the most caring, professional, capable & and empathetic care we could have hoped for. Special appreciation goes out to Dr. Maxwell Polyoka & Miss Sarah Smith. Sincerely, Jim & Lauren

Experiencia fantástica: I would recommend if you are having an emergency of going to this location. Everyone we encountered during our stay was exceptional. It was evident that everyone involved was highly intelligent and well-equipped to manage the stress of the situation. I felt like my dog had the highest quality care and loved that I was allowed to be with her every step of the way. Her care: Maya came in with water intoxication. She plays with the hose and is tiny 9 pound dog and drank way too much. We went in around 7 pm on a Thursday night. Took maybe a half hour max to get the diagnosis and treat her. I feel bad for the one star reviews on here but went I went from Thursday - Friday (24 hour stay) there seemed to be enough staff and she was treated as quickly as possible after confirmation of the blood work. This was needed in order to not cause any neurological damage. It was in her care plan to get blood work done every 4 hours and initial was 30 minutes to 1 hour check in for temp and heart rate due to her condition. The nurse never missed and was always on schedule. During this time my husband and I were asked multiple times if I needed any thing. I wish I remembered the names of her care team but even everyone around 10/9 -10/10 & her final blood work check in 10/11 were nice and helpful and made sure I knew I could ask anyone there for help.

Experiencia fantástica: My husband and myself visited VEG several times over the past month as our 13-year-old cat, Moustache, needed urgent hospitalization for a severe case of chronic pancreatitis. From our very first visit, we were consistently impressed by the team’s expertise, empathy, and professionalism. The staff treated Moustache with incredible patience and compassion, even when she was understandably stressed and feisty. At every stage of her treatment, they made sure she was safe and as comfortable as possible, while always keeping us fully informed about her condition and care plan. One aspect we especially appreciated was VEG’s open-concept approach. Being able to stay with Moustache throughout her treatment (except during X-rays, which is completely understandable) and visit her at any time while she was hospitalized made a world of difference to us. It brought us so much comfort to be by her side, especially knowing how anxious she was away from home. Despite the team’s tireless efforts and dedication, Moustache’s pancreatitis kept recurring, and her condition sadly continued to decline. Ultimately, we had to make the heartbreaking decision to let her go. Even in those final moments, the VEG staff stood by us, offering unwavering support, compassion, and understanding. We are deeply grateful to the entire VEG team for their exceptional care and for doing everything possible for Moustache. Their empathy, transparency, and commitment made an incredibly difficult time a little more bearable, and we will always remember the kindness they showed to both our beloved cat and our family.

Experiencia negativa: TLDR: After being unable to answer questions, rude vet (Dr. Janet) condescendingly tells me it’s my job to find out why my cat is sick after I pay them $4k I am so upset about my VEG experience, mainly my one on 10/4 and 10/5. Dr. Lisa saw my cat when I arrived on 10/4 and care was a bit slow, but I completely understood because they were super busy and my vet took forever to send over her records. I was told she wanted to redo X-rays and lab work and then have her stay overnight to get an ultrasound in the morning. She said she would call around 5pm with updates. I never received a call, so I called at 8pm and the oncoming vet who hadn’t seen Toothless answered. She updated me about her labs and x-rays and was nice, and said the sonographer would be there about 10am the next day. When I called the vet on 10/5 to ask if her ultrasound was done, she goes “Oh, did they not tell you? They did it last night.” I was so upset as they had not updated me at all, and I had only agreed to let them keep her overnight because they said the ultrasound sonographer didn’t come in on Sundays (or so they said). Aside from all of that, when I picked her up on Monday Dr. Janet was so incredibly rude and condescending. I had a list of questions from my boyfriend as he was not there with me to pick her up and she was very annoyed to be answering them. When asked caused this she goes “that’s for you to work with your primary vet to figure out, we’re just here to take care of her clinical symptoms” which is INSANE because I literally just paid $4000 majority for diagnostic testing. Some of which my primary vet already did but they scolded me for not following the “gold standard of care” when I asked to cut out repeat lab work, x-rays, or duplicate meds. Dr. Janet then promptly stopped me from asking more questions by going, “the nurse will go over medications with you now”, and walked out. I cannot believe the lack of communication at VEG between vets and to owners, and how dismissive Dr. Janet was.

Experiencia fantástica: Amazing staff. They were able to see my ferret immediately. They worked with my budget as a college student to help me out a LOT. Isabella was great and kind. They did all they could in the moment to help my ferret such as administering subcutaneous fluids, and prescribed meds to help him. They were understanding and nonjudgemental about me being emotional. They also recommended some good affordable exotic vets to take my ferret to for more in depth care.

Experiencia fantástica: I brought my dog in after he suddenly started crying in pain and couldn’t move his head. It was an incredibly stressful night, but the team here was calm, kind, and truly compassionate from the moment we arrived. They handled him so carefully, even though he’s nervous and reactive around new people, and made sure he was comfortable right away. The doctor explained everything clearly, gave us options, and treated him with patience and empathy. I left feeling reassured that he was in the best possible hands. I’m so grateful for the care they gave both to him and to me as a worried owner. Highly recommend this clinic to anyone facing an emergency with their pet. they combine professionalism, compassion, and skill in a way that makes a huge difference when it matters most.

Experiencia fantástica: We tried VEG for the first time because I was disappointed with other ER vets in the area. Our dog, Beau, was seen immediately. The staff was so patient and kind and brought my husband and I coffee and water. The vet techs were very gentle and patient and Dr. Johnson was quick and explained everything to us thoroughly. Obviously, we hope to avoid anymore emergencies but with two very large dogs that’s inevitable. We will definitively be going to VEG again.

Experiencia negativa: I’m begging every pet owner to and read the other 1 ⭐️ reviews before bringing your pet here. The number of families whose loved ones were ignored, rushed through care, & then discharged as “stable” only to pass shortly after is disturbing & gut wrenching. The following is my senior dog Finnagen’s story. We were there for 4 hours in total. It was at least an hour after arriving before a vet tech came to look him over. During that time he leaked water like fluid from his anus then threw up. After he threw up, someone finally brought a blanket for him to sit on so he might get comfortable. It was still another 20min before he was actually assessed. They ended up doing blood work, X-rays, & a mini ultrasound. Was another hour until they came to do the X-rays. During which he was clearly panicking & stressed, to the point I started crying watching how scared he was. Didn’t seem that making the experience less scary & stressful was any kind of priority. They followed w/bloodwork, then took us back to wait another hour. The vet finally came to see him & they did the mini ultrasound. I was told that he had masses on his liver that could be cysts or tumors (cancerous or not), & needed close monitoring and inevitably removal, though at my dogs age he isn’t a good candidate for surgery. Vet told me they’d send us home with meds & to call our primary in the to discuss options, but that main focus at this point should be quality of life. She was there for maybe 7min, then we were left alone. And I sobbed. Because I’d essentially just been told my he was on borrowed time. I was left alone & devastated for 20min before a vet tech finally noticed & tried to comfort me some. At which point I already felt as if no one cared. Most of our experience there left me feeling like Finnagen was an after thought. Worth noting that during all these waiting periods we were checked on maybe twice. Any other interactions were because I had to leave my dog’s side to flag someone down, including after he threw up & had bowel discharge. By the time we were discharged, my dog hadn’t been able to keep food down for over 24hrs. Despite his symptoms, photos I showed of diarrhea w/yellow bile, & nearly orangish pee from an accident, his blood levels, the X-rays, & mini ultrasound, not a single person mentioned the possibility of sludge or a gallbladder stone blocking passage through the duct. Nor did they show concern about immediate rupture of a mass. When I got him to the primary vet in the morning, 1st thing noted was concern about sludge or a gallbladder stone based on the imaging from the night prior & symptoms. Things escalated quickly from there. I’d learn late afternoon that early morning, one of the masses VEG said to monitor so they didn’t “get too big to rupture and cause extreme pain” had already done just that. By the time I learned what had happened we were at our second ER in 24hrs & he’d been suffering in pain for hours as it took awhile to get the right pain meds dosage. At the second ER he was finally able to get a full ultrasound where the gallbladder stone was found along with free flowing fluid in his abdomen from a ruptured mass. By then, there was only one compassionate choice I could make. But he passed so drugged up I don’t know if he even realized I was there. That he wasn’t alone. And he passed in a sterile room after 2 days of anxiety, fear, and pain. I know his passing couldn’t have been avoided, but I can’t help but wonder how it might have differed if more attention & care had been paid while we were at VEG. Maybe he would have had the time needed to pass while sunbathing in the grass, his favorite. Maybe the rest of his family would have had time to drive up and be there with him. Or at the very least maybe, all the anxiety and pain he experienced at the end would have been cut to a fraction of his reality. A reality he didn’t deserve it. It’s clear VEG was understaffed, among other issues. The abysmal management should feel disgusted with themselves. May your loved ones never know the fear & pain Finnagen did.
