Experiencia fantástica: We took our Siberian Husky to this facility for a molar extraction. When we were driving to Westgate Pet & Bird Hospital, I was a bit nervous not knowing what to expect from this facility. The moment we walked in, we were greeted with a friendly hello. I immediately felt at ease. The front desk staff, Vet. Techs., and Dr. Hogan were super friendly and made our visit very pleasant. I cannot say how great this place is with pets. They treated my Husky as part of their family. Many thanks to all for such a wonderful job Yuri received. He is recovering from his two molar extractions. A special thank you to the discharge nurse who brushed and removed some of the undercoat from Yuri when he was under sedation. ( Wish I could remember your name.) She went over and above doing this. We will definitely recommend this place. Also, a big thank you to Dr. Hogan. You are awesome! Will definitely bring our other Siberian Husky to this facility.
Experiencia negativa: I have always taken my pet rabbits to this vet and have never had a problem with how we were treated . I use to take my rabbits every 2-3 months due to GI stasis - which as you know can be costly. Over the years I have done better with diet ,reducing stress and grooming issues . I take them in 1-2 times a year now and it’s mostly for a check up or dental issues. I recently called and requested a preventative medication for pain and gut mobilizer and was told that they needed to go in for assessment. I just took them in a few months ago and they told me that my rabbit would need to be assessed for GI stasis - which I let them know there was no need since they were improving. I have no problem paying for their preventive meds , but that the vet would require now for me to take them in each time. Who can afford that in this day and age and so now I am forced to look for a more affordable and reliable vet. Truly saddened and disappointed with their treatment after 6 years of loyalty to them.

Ziggy is getting older and is experiencing difficulty walking and getting up. Dr Lusk listened and asked questions before examining Ziggy. We then discussed next steps. Dr Lusk is always friendly, compassionate, patient and knowledgeable. Thank you.
Experiencia negativa: TL;DR: Trusted Westgate Pet and Bird Hospital with my dog when she couldnt lift her head, and they tried to upsell shampoo and essential oils. Took her to a real vet who actually treated her and saved her from PERMANENT PARALYSIS!!! ~ I brought my pup Leona in because she was walking with her head down and stumbling after playing a little rough with our other dog the day before our visit. The staff was pleasant enough, but the actual care we received was disappointing at best. The doctor briefly examined Leona’s neck, suspected a neck injury, and said she’d prescribe something for pain and inflammation. Leona is an American Bully, and anyone familiar with the breed knows they’re prone to skin issues. Hers were mild and absolutely NOT the reason we were there. Despite that, the doctor fixated on her skin and barely addressed the real problem. She handed us antibiotics “just to be safe,” pushed a medicated shampoo we were supposed to use twice a day, even though Leona couldn't stand safely on a non slipperly service, and even tried to upsell an additional essential oil treatment. After all that, the doctor left to "write" everything up and still gave zero after-care instructions for what she supposedly believed was a neck injury. I even asked the vet tech if there was anything we needed to do, any precautions, anything to watch out for. The answer? “I don’t think so, just help her walk and keep her from falling.” That was it. We took her home and, the more we thought about it, the less the entire visit made sense. We spent most of the appointment talking about a minor, non-urgent skin issue while the urgent concern (the reason we came in) was barely acknowledged. Westgate Pet and Bird didn’t offer X-rays, despite knowing there was a possible neck injury. Over the next five days, Leona’s mobility got worse and worse. By Sunday, she couldn’t walk or stand at all. We took her to our regular vet, who performed a similar exam but immediately recognized how serious this was. He suspected intervertebral disc disease (IVDD) and ordered X-rays right away, explaining that she would eventually need an MRI to officially confirm it. When we told him the injury had happened nearly 7 days earlier, he was extremely concerned! Leona was at risk of PERMANENT NERVE DAMAGE and PERMANENT PARALYSIS. Time was critical, and we lost 5 days after being sent home from Westgate Ped and Bird Hospital with nothing but shampoo, antibiotics, pain killers and an essential oil pitch. The X-rays supported what he suspected. Unlike the Westgate Pet and Bird Hospital, he gave us a detailed, clear treatment protocol. He gave her a strong steroid injection and we set up follow up calls and appointments. Thankfully, Leona did start to stand again, and she has been slowly regaining her mobility. But the truth is, if we hadn’t sought out a second opinion, we could have lost her, or she could have been permanently paralyzed because Westgate Pet and Bird Hospital simply didn’t take her condition seriously enough! Do not trust your pets’ lives to this place. They seem far more interested in upselling unnecessary products than in actually treating your pet’s medical emergency!
Experiencia fantástica: Westgate Pet & Bird continues to be a great vet practice to take my dog. They have a big practice, every vet who has checked up our dog has been kind and very competent, and I still think it is much better priced and run than many other vet practices I have been to in the past. Our dog is coming up on her first sedation tooth clean to remove plaque, and Westgate Pet & Bird Hospital gave me an estimate (based on her very moderate levels of tartar) of $500. That seems pretty sane for what all is involved, and so I'm going to get it done soon instead of putting it off, risking more build up on her teeth. from my last review: "This is a well run vet operation with a nice staff. It is no frills, but they treat our dog well, and the pricing seems very fair."

Sikand. They took their time, were so informative and kind. This office is very far from me 1.5 hours but they made it worth the drive. Loki did not want to go, but once they got to WPBH, he calmed down a bit, and decided to cooperate with the process. All the humans involved were lovely, and we appreciate their kindness for Loki. I think next time he may be even calmer.

Experiencia fantástica: During covid I had to bring my elderly bearded dragon in to be euthanized. I really appreciated the empathy and kindness we were shown in an already terrible and trying time. We received her back in a beautiful wood carved box and a "claw" print plaque. Since then I have brought our dog and more recently my daughter's cat who has had urinary issues off and on. Dr. walker and Dr. Hogan have both seen him and are always thorough and knowledgeable about his condition. They also understand the financial burden can be tough and always offer the best treatment plans within my budget. The vet techs are friendly and always make sure all my questions are answered. The office is always clean and well stocked with the special food our cat needs. All around great experience. 10/10⭐

I’ve never had a problem requesting an apt and getting it. Very informative on issues that a French bulldog have. And could possibly have. Experiencia fantástica: Dr. Rae Hogan and their staff were spectacular at my chinchillas first vet visit due to dental issues. I was quite worried and scared, as most pet parents are, but their friendly staff made those worries disappear. They were so gentle handling my chinchilla. We loved Dr. Hogan’s bed side manner, they were very attuned to my chinchillas physical cues, and gave us the information we needed. He’ll be going back for dental surgery but I’m sure (and hoping) it’ll go smoothly. (Picture of my chinchilla, Pistachio, outside their office)
Experiencia negativa: I am adding on this review after 4 years. I will make it short. I am still not over this horrible place literally killing my cat, Sky. I had an appt for her the day they killed her because she was not feeling up to par. I took her in about 5 minutes early and they actually got mad and said they were busy. They did a cursory exam and then asked me how much I wanted to spend on her!!!!! Next thing I know they have this horrible contraption out actually putting my cat to sleep. They wanted me to help. I was and still am devastated. They then charged me $800.00 to kill her. Next day, my other cat started exhibiting the same symptoms so I took her to the emergency clinic nearby. Within an hour they had given her a blood transfusion and she was on the road to recovery. I picked Sky up the next day and to this day she has never been ill again. Both my cats were ill with a same common ailment but this vet office vet could not even tell what was wrong- it was low on blood from flea bites. It was NOT some rare disease! They are incompetent! This vet office was so incompetent they let my 4 year old cat die when they could easily have saved her with a blood transfusion. I brought in my healthy 4 year old female cat around noon on a Friday and by 4 o'clock she was dead. The first thing they told me about her was she was anemic due to the very visible symptoms of pale gums and lethargy. They noted she also had fleas even though I regularly gave her a topical flea medication Advantage II. NOTE: If you type in these three symptoms online it comes up the cat needs a blood transfusion. If only they had done that my beautiful cat would still be alive. Four hours after bringing my cat in to their office in distress they delivered me a dead cat and a bill for almost $800.00 telling me they had no idea in the world what had been wrong with her. I had asked nicely about an hour after I brough her in if I could see her and they reluctantly agreed and there she was all by herself in a cage with no one even helping her. I felt they hurried me as I wanted to tell her to hang on with all she had. She perked up so I mistakenly belived she was going to make it. Was I ever wrong. She "crashed" (their words) about an hour or so later. That was that. So I paid the outrageous bill and left not having any idea what had killed her. About a week later one of my other cats had the same identical symptoms happen to her so i rushed her to a different vet. They immediately diagnosed what was wrong with her (within 5-8 minutes) and she was given a blood transfusion and the next morning she was alert and seemed well. Within a couple of days she was back to her happy self. Now Westgate vet office will not even discuss this matter with me so I am now taking legal measures to get justice for my cat I loved so much it feels like I lost a child. I would not have this degree of sadness it if I had taken her to the right vet in the first place. The other thing is all my cats regularly get flea medicine but the new vet told me there is an ingredient in Advantage II that is making the fleas resistant to this medicine. These 2 particular cats were a healthy weight and never acted sick or scratched themsleves and I never noticed fleas. This vet office is guilty of gross incompetence at not realizing a very simple cure available. My very loved cat would still be free to live her life she enjoyed so much if they had just used their heads. I am still in disbelief how they missed this. I will note that in the week before my other cat got sick I finally got Dr. brandt to return my call and he told me my cat Sky had some rare disease no one has ever heard of. He told me this garbage just to shut me up, he was not even the one treating Sky. Well, we will see what the courts have to say about this matter. No one should be treating sick animals if they do not know what they are doing!! And last but not least what really struck me as cold dr. brandt actually told me "Yeah, we had to drop everything we were doing to help your cat!!!"
Experiencia negativa: If I could negative stars I would. I brought my cat into westgate pet & bird hospital in April 2023. My cat had an obvious ear infection & I was hoping to receive some medicine to help the infection. The “vet” coerced me to give my cat a rabies & cat herpes vaccine after I begged if we could wait till AFTER her ear infection was healed. Her immune system was already compromised & I didn’t care to attack it more with vaccines. To me this is basic common sense. He called me neglectful & threatened that I would be sued if my cat scratched any one of the techs. I desperately wanted some medication & felt scared & confused. I totally caved. Well, after those shots my cat got significantly worse off & has not gotten better. She has had a constant “cold” now. It’s been almost 2 years. I hate this hospital. They are idiotic to think that giving sick animals vaccines would be fine. In order for a vaccine to “work” it has to injure the immune system. Now my baby is permanently damaged because of THEIR neglect. I will never ever recommend this abusive facility to anyone.
Experiencia negativa: Very disappointing experience. I arrived and waited in the waiting room for 10 minutes while two receptionist behind the desk made no attempt at a greeting. Once in the room, the technician could not properly hold my puppy, and the doctor did a quick exam and medical procedures without asking or giving an estimate first. Then they sent eat medicine with improper follow up, the wrong size heartworm medication was sent home, and they never shared the results of the fecal test.
Experiencia fantástica: My dog was in pain from a flare up of an inflamed spinal disc, so I called at 8am on a Saturday when our regular vet was fully booked out, and Westgate Pet was able to squeeze me into an appointment at 9am which I am so grateful for! My dog is very nervous at vets, but the vet tech and vet were so patient and kind to her while still being cautious and allowing me to help with her exam. Our vet was thorough and knowledgeable, prescribing an NSAID and gabapentin to get her feeling better quickly with helpful and clear instructions for recovery. She answered all my questions and concerns with honesty and empathy. With the $73 vet exam and meds, our total bill was $133, a very fair price I was happy to pay for the level of care I received. Thank you to everyone on the team for getting us seen quickly and compassionately!
Experiencia fantástica: I cannot speak highly enough for the wonderful folks there! My daughter got a hamster for her 10th birthday and we had the unfortunate circumstance to choose one with health challenges. I brought him in to be seen by their staff between 3-4 occasions and every single person I've interacted with there, from the front desk to the clinicians to the Doctors, Doll and Brandt were all so kind and caring. This isn't the first vet practice I've brought pets to either and they now have a customer FOR LIFE! I have a cat I'll now bring to them for check-ups. If you live in South Austin, this is the place to bring your pets to be cared for.
Experiencia fantástica: They did so well with my rabbit! Everyone there is super nice & professional, they explained everything well & put me at ease—especially the technicians! I like that the clinic seems to be a mix of traditional & modern practices as well. Money-wise they’re pretty affordable when it comes to exotics. Exams are typically $80 & neuters can range from $297-$400 which is average cost for this area. Obviously that changes year by year but overall it was a great experience & they’re my go-to vet now

Experiencia negativa: This is the worst vet that I've ever dealt with in my entire life. I took my chicken here that was severely ill, and Dr.Brandt wouldn't even let me speak and just spoke over me the entire time. He prescribed me medication that I couldn't get until days after, how does that help my chicken? They took a lab test, but didn't state that it would take 4 weeks to get the results back. My chicken's health continued to get worse, and I called to let the vet know that. No call back or they wouldn't even let me talk to him directly. My chicken ended up dying, and I was furious. This place is a complete scam and only cares about your money. I demanded a refund back for the lab test, and was told that I would be refunded. Now, when I try to call to get my money, they dodge me and tell me that their office manager Kathy is "busy." Looking forward to taking this people to small claims court if I don't receive my refund I was told that I would receive back. DON'T TAKE YOUR PETS HERE!!!

Their treatment of my chicken saved her life and they’ve been so kind, caring, and supportive. At the same time, they were honest about the odds of success. So far, so good. We have sugar gliders and dogs and it's nice to know that they're all in good hands every time we come here, whether it be for regular checkups, medication refills/updates, or emergency appointments. My oldest suggie, Yoshi was having issues last year and after running every test and doing everything they could to compassionately supply us with information and options, we ended up having to do what was best for her and let her go humanely. Even that experience and the devastating circumstances were handled so gently by Dr. Villalva and the rest of the staff though, that I was appreciative afterwards because it could've been made much harder with people who didn't care half as much as these folks do. They really do care and it shows. If you're looking for a good vet, look no further.
Experiencia fantástica: Our vet tech, provider, and vet student all made a wonderful team and handled our beloved bird, Pancho, great! They were very knowledgeable, kind and easy to trust. We are very thankful we found this facility and look forward to our future visits to allow Pancho to live a long healthy life. Side note that we have had Pancho for about three years and he is well socialized. After reading several previous reviews, training your bird to be toweled and handled will contribute significantly to a positive vet visit.

Experiencia negativa: I brought my bird here four times in a matter of three weeks. My bird ended up dying because the vets didn’t make her breathing issues an urgency even with me showing videos and bring her upon emergency and still considering her stable. I asked questions about what they would consider stable? She had a heart murmur as well which is considerably worse when birds have breathing issues. Unfortunately our oven caused smoke I brought her urgently to bc I was concerned that her breathing was labored and heavy and she was fluffed. The vet prescribed meds and 4 days later I had to bring her back bc she wasn’t breathing well that’s when doctor stated she was stable and well. Just how could they say that to me? Said her airways when clear and well. I took her home but she was still having issues. Her tail was dipping I showed them and pointed it out. They denied it dipping and said she looked fine. Think about that how frustrating that is.I brought her back again a few days later only then did the vet recognize that my birds breath was off my bird had to be rush to an emergent hospital 4 hrs away only to be told she so sick I had to put her down ??? I’m writing this post to state if your vet telling you your animals ok and you see something else go with your gut if I had listened to my gut my bird probably wouldn’t have had to be euthanized, I had that parrot for 28yrs! I’m sure you could imagine the heartbreak I felt thinking everything was fine and that the vet knew what was going on with her ?? They are inaccurate they didn’t see the signs ?? My bird died bc of the inaccuracy of their prognosis.
Experiencia fantástica: Our little friend POOKIE, the bearded dragon went in for a check up and ended up needing to be put down, I was so thankful we went here. The staff was super compassionate, warm and patient as we went through the process of putting our little guy to rest. Dr. Hogan operated with integrity around the entire process with respect and dignity for our little friend, which took the edge off this tragic ending for our buddy POOKIE ❤️ Thank you for your warmth and kindness through this very difficult process!

Experiencia fantástica: We live in Marble Falls and after the chaotic experience we had with another vet, thank God we found Dr. Paul Brandt and his team. I'm very nervous about my nearly 11 year old baby girl and get upset if I think something bad is happening to her. Dr. Brandt and his team treated my baby with love and care and kept me updated continually through the process while I waited outside in the car. I will forever be grateful for them doing her surgery successfully. It took an incredible load off of my heart and mind knowing she was in caring and capable hands. I will NEVER use anyone else. Experiencia fantástica: I brought in a very sick little budgie (he was barely showing signs at that point, but it I’m a worrier so off we went). The staff was just wonderful, checked him out thoroughly and since he wasn’t showing outside signs of a tumor or anything terrible, they sent us home with (flavored!) pain killers. When he wasn’t better, but visibly worse two days later, we went back in. Tests and x-rays discovered that he had a bacterial infection. Lord am I forever grateful that that they were there for him. That was three days ago and he’s finally showing small signs of feeling better. Freddie (full name Freddie Mercury because of his amazing singing) is now known all over the clinic. They asked me to send pictures of his “music room” and other furnishing, and the buzz about the tender, friendly, mild mannered, musical budgie is now famous all over the clinic. They took such good care of him, It’s hard to find bird vets. These guy get it. Not just the workings of a budgie, but they also get the bond between bird and human. I’ve had dogs, a cat, fish, other budgies, a cockatiel, a Goffin cockatoo, and even a frog. But my bond with Freddie is unique and I just knew it wasn’t his time to go. Thanks to Westbank, they got that too and just did all they could to make sure Freddie stays around a bit longer. Ten stars!
Experiencia fantástica: This places is an excellent avian hospital. Miss Vialva was so wonderful with African grey who was experiencing stomach issues. She knew how to address the condition and give me further information about what going on with her. Also, she was very good at providing helpful techniques to medicate my bird without over stressing her. Very knowledgeable vet that really took the time to oversee my parrot. I’m very thankful to have found this place. Thank you!

It’s clear she is knowledgeable and experienced in their care and that she cares deeply about their wellbeing. The staff is excellent, efficient, professional and welcoming. Most of all Dr. Brandt & his staff provide the best care possible for my cats and he will do the same for you.
Experiencia fantástica: Truly one of the best vet experiences I’ve ever had. They weren’t pushy AT ALL! Most places would have demanded an X-ray and I love that the first route was rest and meds first so we didn’t spend a fortune. Our new pup Pickle was taken care of so well by Deirdre and Dr Hogan. I’ve never had a better vet tech. Even with my pup being in tons of pain she LOVED Deirdre! My pup is finally feeling like her normal self and we couldn’t be happier

Experiencia fantástica: I've been taking my pets to this practice for over ten years. Dr's. Brandt and Lusk are knowledgeable, thorough and caring. I haven't had any experience with the other veterinarians at the practice, but I have heard positive things about them as well. The techs and staff are friendly and patient.
Experiencia negativa: I chose this vet due to the reviews online. Boy, was i wrong and feel bad for the stress and trauma my bird went through. I own a 60g mooncheek, female conure. I have had her for about a month and wanted to have her looked over to ensure her health. I also opted to get a chip implant. Being my first bird and first ever visit to a vet, this was by far the worst experience I've ever had. No real information on how thus procedure would go. At first, we had our own little room to examine my bird. The exams were very stressful to the bird, forcing her to be wrapped in a towel while screaming. Ok... she's not much on being bound in a towel. She's very friendly, docile, and actively social with me and others around me. After the bird was taken to the back for the implanting, I was moved to the front of the building in the waiting area with everyone else because "they needed to see the other animals waiting." And my bird would be brought out to me..... Here is where I begin to get upset. I brought my traumatized bird to the waiting area in the front around dogs and other animals to keep an eye after the procedure.... i asked if there was a room to go to because of then other animals...... avians don't do well with dogs and other animals that are not family! So I was moved to a FILTHY GROOMING ROOM WITH A DISTRAIGHT AND VIOLENT BIRD WANTING NOTHING TO DO WITH ANYONE INCLUDIJG THE DOCTOR. once in the nasty non approved room for birds, the vet tech comes in and says he needs to give my bird another shot because her BENT the needle giving her her first shot!?!? LONG AND SHORT ILL NEVER RETURN TO THIS LOCATION FOR ANY SERVICES!!!! IF YOU CARE ABOIT YOUR AVIAN FRIEND LIKE I DO, SAVE YOUR BIRD AND GO TO A CERTIFIED AVIAN CLINIC! IF I COULD GIVE 0 STARS, I WOULD! My bird was anything but calm. She was so mad and violent that she split my ear, nose, and lip while in the grooming room. Dirt, dog fur, animal fur, dead insects, and tons of areas my bird could have hurt herself in there! SHAME ON ALL OF YOU AT THIS CLINIC!! I FELT THAT THE MONEY WAS ALL THEY CARED ABOUT SINCE THE CALMING QUIET ROOM FOR MY BIRD WAS NEDDED FOR THE NEXT CUSTOMER. YOUR REVIEWS IN MY OPINION ARE VERY MISSLEADING WHEN IT COMES TO BIRDS. MY BIRD IS BRUSED ON HER CHEST AND WAS SEVERLY TRAMATIZED DUE TO THERE CARE AFTER TAKING THE BIRD IN THE BACK! *WARNING, DONT BRING YOUR AVIAN HERE IF YOU CARE ABOUT THEM, THEY MIGHT NOT LIVE* FINE A CERTIFIED AVIAN THAT KNOWS HOW TO CARE FOR YOUR BIRD. Experiencia fantástica: I took my sugar glider here for a wellness exam after her cage mate passed away suddenly and the experience was amazing! The technician was very sweet and gentle with my glider even as she screamed through the entire exam . Dr. Hogan was super nice and very thorough about her findings on examination and reassured me that I was feeding my glider properly. I recommend Westgate to any one with sugar gliders or any other exotics.
Experiencia fantástica: I moved to Austin at the beginning of 2010 and have taken my 4 cats and 1 rabbit to Westgate continually during the past 5+ years. Dr. Lusk and Dr. Davis have been our critters' primary caregivers and I can't thank them enough. Our rabbit had emergency bladder stone removal, cats have had ultrasounds and teeth removed. Dr Davis diagnosed asthma in one of our cats, solving a several month mystery. And all the staff and the front desk make everyone feel welcome and comfortable and calm. They're also great about handing out the compliments, which all felines of course feel entitled to. Always caring, professional and knowledgeable

Experiencia fantástica: This has been my go-to vet clinic for my rabbit for the past 8 or 9 years and they did his neuter, and now we have brought our dog (a pit bull) here for the last year and a half since adopting him. We have always had great experiences with the all of the staff and their care.

Experiencia fantástica: Adding more to my review because I love this vet so much. My little guy was sick with gastritis and they fit him in the same day which saved me waiting at the animal hospital. Everyone is here SO nice. I had a really positive experience here. My dog gets anxiety at the vet and everyone was super patient. I also felt that prices were fair and that unnecessary treatments and meds were not pushed on me. I will be returning.

I am new to the Bearded Dragon world and both my appointments with them have been great. They are kind, patient, and always so gentle with Jack and are NEVER irritated with all my many questions; and I do ask a lot! I am extremely grateful for your vet office and the awesome people!

Experiencia fantástica: Dr Doll is absolutely the best! I have two Shi Tzus and one that is very difficult with vets. Her calm and kind demeanor allow them and us to have a pleasant experience during our visits. She does a wonderful assessment on their health needs and only recommends what they need. She listens to all our concerns and adresses each. She personally calls us to provide their test results and thouroughly explains and or recommend options for treatments. I wouldn't take my fur baby's any where else. We love Dr Doll.

Experiencia fantástica: Everyone at this pet hospital cares about service and pets. I received a very cute greeting card from them in mail, absolutely loved it. They respond to inquires (from email and phone calls) in a prompt manner. Easy to set up and update appointments. They are considerate and responsive. Dr. Doll was easy-going, attentive and caring about my hamsters. She made me feel I'm in good hands. Nurses were very patient providing support and explaining how to feed medications to the small animal. Staff were all nice and helpful. Billing was clear and reasonable.

Experiencia fantástica: Been bringing my Toby to Westgate P&B since 2020. As a first time bunny mom, I didn't know how to care for a bunny when I first got him as a baby, but they educated me and continue to listen to my concerns. The front desk personnel are also very kind! As much as Toby hates vet visits, we know we're taken care of!
Experiencia fantástica: Everyone from the front desk, vet techs, and Dr.'s have been amazing. My dog, Wallie, still likes going there even after having multiple surgeries. I've always been given information regarding her care and detailed post care instructions after procedures which helped me feel confident in caring for her. Great office! I also used to have pet rats and the office was great with helping me with them too.

It makes the quick time during check in and out so enjoyable and makes me and my little creatures feel very loved! I trust and appreciate every veterinarian here so much that I rarely request any one in particular, they are all extremely compassionate and knowledgable. They are willing to research and accommodate your pet's needs at every step and after 36 years of pet ownership I can say that this is the best practice I have ever known, paws down!

I trust my pets to their care when I'm in the hospital. I have had help through many health problems my cats have had. I have been guided as my pets age with diet and medications. I have experienced care and concern when an aged pet has had to be put to sleep. I trust no one else with my beloved pets.
Experiencia fantástica: I’ve heard about the care of Westgate for a long time. I was in need of care for my sick Duck and they were amazing at getting me seen, diagnosing the issue and giving me tools to treat. Staff is very caring and Dr. Lusk’s specialty knowledge on birds is amazing. Turns out my duck ate metal and he’s doing much better on his way to recovery.
Experiencia fantástica: So great, all the way. We use them for our dog and many rats over the years. They are super friendly, squeeze you in if they can, my dog used to hate the vet and now gets excited at the door (he just went through a big health thing too so he spent some time with them).
Experiencia fantástica: Amazing people here! When my dog had an emergency they were able to see my dog incredibly quickly and did a wonderful job caring for my pet and explaining the options to me. They were faster, better, and more affordable than other vets in the area. And my dog agrees.

Have always had excellent service and being in people medicine (I fully realize that I am no Veterinarian) I am familiar with the general medical logic and approach to diagnosis and care. Experiencia fantástica: I love Westgate Pet & Bird Hospital! They have done such an amazing job taking care of my cats and have helped me so many times! I always feel so comfortable calling and know they will give me the best care! Dr. Hogan is the best and has helped treat my cat through urinary and stress issues.
Experiencia negativa: I called the clinic to ask a generic question. I have a pet who, due to injury, cannot travel the distance of 40 miles to the clinic. I offered to pay the cost of an office visit just to be able to ask Dr. Brandt a question. I was not seeking a diagnosis or medication. Just a simple question. The lady (Ashley?) who answered the phone put me on an extended hold to "find my records". She then proceeded to tell me that she wouldn't ask the doctor, as she already knew he would say no. I asked her if she could just please submit my request, and she said she didn't want to leave a detailed message for him when she already knew what he would say. How nice to be able to read your employer's mind! For those of you who left 5 star reviews, I'm truly happy that you got care for your beloved pet. But, for someone faced with making a decision no pet owner wants to make, I find this attitude reprehensible. My past experience with Dr. Brandt was very positive, but one employee completely changed my mind.
Experiencia fantástica: Excellent visit, as usual. I highly recommend Dr. Doll. During my checkup, she mentioned at least 3 recent studies relevant to caring for my cat. I really appreciate any doctor that keeps up with current scientific developments, especially those that specifically impact me and my kitties.
Experiencia fantástica: Wonderful veterinary office with a clear love of animals. Both times I have taken my pet bird (cockatiel) Kirby to this vet, Dr Doll has taken the time to carefully walk me through her observations and suggested treatment, while making time to hear my concerns and preferences. They are great with parrots and pet birds at this office, which is not something that all veterinary offices specialize in. I would highly recommend using this office if you have a pet bird and want the highest degree of care for them. It’s a bit of a drive for me, but one that I am happy to make. Edit Nov 17 2022: Just returned from my bird’s vet visit. I was 15 min late and Dr Hogan still saw me and was wonderful with my bird. I got great advice and they handled my bird with care and compassion. Thank you Westgate!

I consider them family (and so do my pets)! 11/10/22 I have to add to this post because these people are more than amazing they look after and love not only your pets but you!! Experiencia negativa: I brought my cat to this facility for emergency bladder surgery a month ago. The surgery was performed well but my cat just didn’t seem to recover from the procedure. I brought him in a few weeks later, they ran $700 worth of tests to tell me they had no idea what was wrong. Dr. Brandt listed several costly surgeries to fix the potential problem. My cat was not looking well, I suggested the possibility of euthanizing if it came to it and he refused. So, I sought a second opinion. I brought my pet to Austin pets alive where he was adopted. Within 10 minutes into the exam the vet determined he had cancer and suggested putting him down was the best option. After he was put down, I spoke to Dr. Brandt on the phone and he was so obviously dodging bullets and back peddling and making excuses to justify the cost for all those useless tests to give me zero results. It became abundantly clear that this facility only cares about one thing: profit. I do not believe this facility handled my difficult situation in an ethical way and I would not bring a future pet here.
Experiencia fantástica: This is the only very in Austin I'll take my birds. Don't bother with the others... Dr. Hogan saw my cockatiel this weekend and it was the first time in my bird's 23 years that she didn't leave the vet agitated. Dr. Hogan was incredibly knowledgeable and personable. The vet tech, whose name I do not recall, was also very careful with Kiki. Finding a team who knows birds and can handle them is so rare. I will request Dr. Hogan every time I visit; they were fantastic! Thank you for providing this wonderful care team!
Experiencia fantástica: The front desk staff were warm and friendly and quick to check us in and out. Robin and Tracy were especially warm and helpful. I felt that they had so much compassion for my dog who was there for complications from a venomous snake bite. Dr. Doll was amazing. She clearly cares about my pet and myself. She diagnosed a problem that was missed by another vet and that was causing significant suffering for my dog and turned her around thoughtfully and quickly. I was very afraid when I got there, and she helped ease my mind significantly. I felt that my dog was finally in good hands. I did not have to wait much at all, and I got great communication all along the way during drop offs and pickups and while my dog was hospitalized for almost 17 hours over 2 days. I’ve been bringing pets to this clinic since 2000 and there have been ups and downs, but this experience has me feeling very secure about choosing to get care here.
