Fantastic experience: I just brought my 16 year old cat for a check up. My cat wasn’t so excited about the visit, but my experience couldn’t have been better. The staff - everyone from the front desk to the vet assistant to the doctor - are animal lovers and truly kind and welcoming. A great veterinary practice. Highly recommend them.

Fantastic experience: Dr Kim Rosenthal saved our sweet dog's life and continues to monitor his complicated health. She is the smartest, thoughtful and compassionate person and always goes way beyond our expectations. She is attentive to every detail, remembering all of his medical issues and his quirks. We thank our lucky stars every day (not kidding) that a mutual friend put us in touch after the specialists at Blue Pearl told us to put our dog down. Dr Rosenthal nursed him back to health, little by little, with thoughtful tweaks with medication. She doesn't give up and at the same time she is very aware of the quality of life of her patients, which we really appreciate. We love her! Also the staff are fantastic, always trying to make our experience less stressful. They are professional, warm and caring.

Fantastic experience: I've been a client at Westside Veterinary Center for almost 30 years. The doctors, vet techs and staff are all top-notch. I moved out of the neighborhood 7 years ago, but I still go there. I don't trust anyone else with my furry best friend. Special shout out to Dr. Bodkin who has been there since the beginning. She is kind, practical and compassionate. She takes care of me just as much as my cat, as I tend to be a very worried pet parent. I love Westside Vet!

Fantastic experience: We've lived in the area for ten years and have brought our two cats there when needed. We've had wonderful experiences with both Dr. Rutherford and Dr. Smith and many of the assistants, especially Shanice. The front desk can get a bit hectic but the care and attention our pets get is wonderful. We are very happy with their devotion to our loved ones.

Fantastic experience: Westside Veterinary is the BEST. The staff is wonderful. Dr. Friedman took very good care of my cat. She was very knowledgeable of the issues Sterling was having and was able to resolve them. I loved how she took time to call and check in on Sterling's progress days after his procedure. In addition, Dr. Chang was great as well. She was very attentive and gave me a detailed report of Sterling's catheter removal process. Going forward WSV is definitely my choice for all of Sterling's medical needs. Thanks to Dr. Friedman, Dr. Chang and the entire Westside Veterinary Center staff from Sterling and myself!

Fantastic experience: I had a great experience at Westside Vet - it was my first time taking my dog to get a bump on her head checked out. Dr. McArthur was very thorough, friendly, and was able to get the removal + biopsy done quickly. I had previously used small door, which had wanted to charge us for general anesthesia for the procedure, which was risky and unnecessary. It feels like Westside has more of our best interests in mind, would highly recommend them for your pet.

Fantastic experience: I moved away from the UWS and tried a vet in Chelsea. It reminded me how amazing this place is. 1. They are so excited to see your pet and will remember them 2. The wait is never longer than 5-10 minutes 3. The prices are far more reasonable than the vet I just went to elsewhere. It was 3x more. Highly recommend Westside vet center, I will be bringing my cat up to here rather than going local next time - it is worth it.

Fantastic experience: I can’t say enough good things about this Westside Veterinary. Over the years I have had personal experiences at other vets in nyc of being upcharged during the most vulnerable moments in which my beloved dog was in need of treatment and felt taken advantage of by costly unnecessary tests. The team here is incredibly honest, compassionate, and skilled. They always focus on what’s truly necessary to diagnose and treat my Old English bulldog Lulu, never trying to upsell or push unnecessary tests or procedures. It’s so refreshing to have a vet I can completely trust. They explain everything clearly, take the time to answer all my questions, and genuinely care about both the animals and the people who love them. I wouldn’t take my dog anywhere else! Highly recommend to anyone looking for a vet who puts integrity and quality care first.

Fantastic experience: I have used the services of West Side Veterinary Center for more than 20 years. They have always taken wonderful, compassionate care of my cats. You can see in the waiting room that even the nervous patients are still happy to see the staff, which says a lot. I am grateful to have this hospital nearby!

Negative experience: We were overcharged and said we should be grateful for it. We came in midday on a weekday with our cat because he was having urinary issues, they recommended surgery and said they would keep him until the surgery because he was blocked. We were given a quote that we agreed to. The next day Dr.Lewis called us saying there might be an emergency surgery charge of 200-500$ that is usually waived; we assumed it would be because it was not an emergency. When we went to pick up our cat the charge was 800$. We queried the charge and Dr Rosenthal came and spoke to us. She berated us in the waiting room saying we should just be happy that they saved our cat and it would be more expensive elsewhere. She was very disrespectful, argumentative and condescending, interrupting me several times. Eventually Dr.Lewis got in touch, apologised and refunded us 300$ but I can't get over how poorly Dr. Rosenthal spoke to us; I wouldn't use this vet again and don't trust their charging practices.

Fantastic experience: I've been taking my very own pinky and the brain (i.e. dog and cat, respectively) here for a few years now to see Dr. Rosenthal and I have only good things to say. Not only is Dr. Rosenthal incredibly knowledgeable, she quite clearly cares for each and every animal as if it's her own. On more than one occasion, she has bent over backwards to fit my animals in for an appointment and seems unfazed by my kitty's quest for world domination. I also want to say that the staff is incredible. They're friendly and go above and beyond to make sure the animals (and humans) have as stress-free of an experience as possible.

Negative experience: Went there for an annual checkup at the suggestion of some dog owners in the neighborhood. Will be returning to my old vet in our old neighborhood next year. Very expensive and not worth the markup IMO. The checkup was very fast, did not feel thorough. Vet offered no suggestions to any issues I brought up. Said I needed a teeth cleaning and sent me a quote of $1980, after much searching I found another provider for half the price. Other people had told me they got their teeth cleaned at the same place for less money so it feels like they either raise the prices constantly or just tack on fees to see if you'll pay. It's very hard BTW because each provider wants to bring your dog in for a checkup first before giving a dental estimate so it almost feels like they're using that over you to charge so much more than they should. The 10 minute checkup was $170 and they marked my dogs records as having done bloodwork and a stool sample though none was offered (this is offered annually at my old vet). Did not offer me a prescription refill either or let me know about the newer medications available for tick/heartworm. The pros was the the appointment was very easy to make thanks to their online system.

Fantastic experience: We started using this vet because they can handle the paperwork for international travel for pets. However, the doctors are both skilled and sympathetic, and the staff is efficient and caring, so we have stayed with them even though it's a bit of a schlep from our home.

Fantastic experience: I have been bringing my dog Max here f or over 11years and have always been impressed by the high quality of care provided by all the staff. From the time you come in ..the receptionists are so nice and helpful, the aides and nurses so caring and professional. And the doctors Great! Max does have his primary Vet who is terrific, Dr.Cantor. But one of the many great strengths is that all the doctors that Max has seen have been excellent! That is so comforting to know that whoever sees him will take good care of him. I find the costs to be quite fair I have never been overcharged. Everything and procedure has been explained and no unnecessary procedures done. Best of all it is a 24/7operation. When Max got sick at 2am I called, took him in and he was seen helped and lovingly cared for. What an amazing place!

Fantastic experience: We recently switched to Westside Veterinary Center and are very pleased with our choice. Dr. Emily Chang is absolutely wonderful with our two dogs. She also accurately and quickly diagnosed a health condition which our previous vet clinic had been unable to diagnose for nearly two years (and which sadly resulted in needless suffering for our dog and thousands of dollars in fruitless expenses for us). Thanks to Dr. Chang and the team at Westside, we have our dog back. He is active, alert, and his engaging personality has re-emerged. We're extremely grateful. I'd also like to mention and thank the caring, well-organized and friendly front desk staff and technicians/assistants. Fantastic experience: While out of town my dog started to have a limp in his walk. I immediately contacted my vet at WSV and after arriving home on a Wednesday they saw me the very next day and performed the necessary surgery to repair Max’s torn ACL. He’s now recovering and am assured he should be fine. This is a level of care that keeps me a very happy dog dad and client of WSV. Thanks to all for your help.

Fantastic experience: I am so thankful for Westside Veterinary Center. Very few places care for parakeets and the one or two Avian places are ridiculously expensive and expected money upfront before I even brought my beautiful budgie "Cookie" in for her first wellness check when I rescued her after she was abandoned in an apartment for 6 days with hardly any food or water. So grateful that Dr. Cantor was able to see her fairly quickly and didn't charge me a fortune to do so. She is very kind, caring and professional. The facility is clean and is always "buzzing" with dogs, cats, etc. and their owners. The staff is always kind and helpful on the phone and in person. I've had Cookie for a little over two years and am still learning how to care for her because I always had dogs in my life. Dr. Cantor has been extremely instrumental in helping me and somewhat educating me about caring for my parakeet. I can't imagine going anywhere else and getting the attention to detail and kindness that my sweet bird and I have received.

Negative experience: My cat was wrongly diagnosed by dr Lewis ( skin infection . - she had no skin infection as it turned out . . Dr Lewis likes to suggest shots , it is her thing ) My cat was given a bad advice by dr Rutherford - it costs me thousands of dollars . Dr kantor learned of a medication that helped my cat from the nurse . She never heard of that medication. But ! This place charges for every step , they suggest unnessasary procedures , ( I am sure they know it ) they like sedating animals to take exams ( where no sedation needed ) . I trusted them for years until I moved to another place - Brilliant vets .opened my eyes . Shocking what I trusted and paid for

Dr. Lewis is a top-notch veterinarian. There are routine vaccines that are recommended. If a veterinarian does not mention the vaccines that are due it would be negligence.
Diagnostics are used to help determine the health of a patient and if need be, to help setup an appropriate treatment.
The medication recommended for your cat by a nurse is not a common medication recommended. The nurse had received a transdermal antihistamine from a dermatologist not commonly used. Dr. Cantor did her research and special ordered it for your cat.
All our doctors are top-notch and are practicing high quality medicine.

Negative experience: Took my dog for a vet check and fecal test. The vet just sold us (yes, it felt like she only care about the money) some supplements that didn’t help (which is ok, happens) but when we emailed her and updated her (as she told us to do) she didn’t answer and it took us 4!!! Emails and phone calls to get her response after 1 month. Very very bad service. Would never go back

Negative experience: I went here to get my dog a rabies titer test so that she could travel. They knew the timing was tight. The dog failed the titer test ( not their fault) but they knew for 9 days before they called me making it almost impossible for her to be vaccinated again and retested. Unacceptable.

Fantastic experience: I can’t say enough good things about this veterinary practice. I recently moved to the neighborhood and needed a new vet for my 13-year-old dog. I asked other dog owners and could tell by the many warm recommendations that this place is a cherished local institution. I’ve since brought my dog here at least once a month for his monthly arthritis shots and other senior dog issues. I’ve never seen him so happy and comfortable at a vet — even though he knows he’s getting a shot! At every other vet, he’d been an anxious whiny mess and resisted entering, but here he prances right in. Everyone on staff is wonderful, and despite being a busy practice, I’ve always heard back from the vet within a few hours when I've called about issues. They'll tell you not to bring him in if it's unnecessary, but I can always get him checked out right away if it's more serious (this is so huge for a senior dog). It’s easy to see why everyone loves this place so much.

Fantastic experience: Dr. Kim Rosenthal is an amazing vet, the absolute best. She has treated our dog Lola for 15 years. She was able to detect that Lola had a very serious, neurological, life threatening issue when she was 2 years old and sent us to a specialist who saved her life. Over the years she has treated Lola for various issues that required surgery or specialized tests, going above and beyond. She is passionate, professional and caring and has been extremely kind with Lola. She is also as equally wonderful in her communication and follow up with us. It's obvious she loves her profession and we are very lucky that she is Lola's vet. She is amazing. Her love, care and knowledge keep Lola alive. We trusted her unconditionally and always knew she was getting the best possible care. We also feel the same with the staff.

Fantastic experience: Dr. Rosenthal and the staff are the best. Kind, compassionate, caring and extremely competent. My brother went to Dr Rosenthal for decades with his dogs and always spoke highly of her. When I adopted my cat 16 years ago I initially went to the vet recommended by the rescue agency. But a few years later he had an upper respiratory infection that several vets failed to cure till I went to Dr Rosenthal. It’s now been many years and it’s always a pleasure to see her even in stressful times.

Fantastic experience: Kind and super professional ! I'm so appreciative of the kindness and generosity of the staff at Westside Vet. In challenging times they provide 24 hour support and care. The staff in the office and in the hospital are caring and attentive and professional. With appreciation from Scotty!

Negative experience: Our beloved dog of 10+ years was treated at Westside Vet. After 5 visits (with a different doctor each time) in the space of 3 months, they were unable to diagnose his illness. They also didn’t stress the urgency to get an ultrasound which would have identified his terminal cancer. This is shocking in retrospect given our dog was over 10 with multiple symptoms. We said goodbye to our sweet boy very suddenly last week. Highly suggest avoiding this clinic if you want the thoughtful, holistic and well informed care your pet deserves.

Fantastic experience: I highly recommend this veterinary clinic! They truly care about both my dog and me. My dog has arthritis, and after just one acupuncture session with Dr. Jones, I noticed a big improvement. She’s the best doctor in NYC—compassionate, knowledgeable, and attentive. Negative experience: One evening my puppy got sick. Symptoms of common food poisoning. The next day we took him to this vet clinic because the symptoms became more alarming than just an upset stomach. We were unlucky to get there during Tamika Lewis's working hours. When we entered the office my puppy had diarrhea and the smell was so frightening that I realized it was something very serious. I have been with animals since childhood and have never heard such a terrible smell from diarrhea in any animal in my life. I told Tamika Lewis that the only vaccination we didn’t get yet was leptospirosis and the other day my puppy found an old puddle from which he tried to lick the water and the other day I pulled half the body of a dead baby squirrel out of his mouth and I have very strong suspicions of leptospirosis. Tamika Lewis assured me that she is a highly qualified doctor and can immediately say that it is not leptospirosis but at most a parasite and only took a stool sample for parasites. She said that today my puppy will stay at the clinic overnight and tomorrow at lunchtime I can pick him up. The next morning we came to pick up our boy, but since it was still very early we were told that they would take him out just to say hello and at lunchtime when Dr. Tamika Lewis would be on shift we could pick him up. When they brought my boy out to me I almost lost consciousness, he was absolutely lethargic and literally immediately he started having bloody diarrhea, difficulty breathing and constant vomiting. I had a panic attack and thank God there was another doctor on shift who took his blood for a leptospirosis test and started giving antibiotics because it became very clear that this was a severe case of icteric leptospirosis. That same day we took our boy to AMC and fought for his life for a whole week with dialysis, blood transfusions and mechanical ventilation lungs. Unfortunately, we were unable to defeat him and he died. I don’t know if I can forgive myself for not listening to my intuition when I met such a non-specialist. She was simply 100% sure that it was not leptospirosis and perhaps on the that day we brought him in and the doctors would have been more skeptical and started the right treatment, my boy would have had a chance to live.

Fantastic experience: Westside vet center has been great. I have taken my dog Gigi for acupuncture for her IVDD with Dr Jones who has been great. Day before Gigi’s third appt I called clinic due to Gigi having a bit of a set back. I was not sure if I should take her in for acupuncture or wait until she felt better. I had the pleasure of speaking with Jordan on the phone who was kind and patient as she listened to my concerns. Jordan said she would speak with the vet/s that were in clinic today and get back to me. Jordan called me back in less than 1/2hr. after speaking with vet. They said I should take Gigi in for her next appt. This place has been nothing but GREAT.

Fantastic experience: My first visit to Westside Veterinary Center could not have gone better. Everyone—receptionists, the vet tech, Dr. Chang—was amiable and attentive, and my concerns about my cat were immediately allayed. I was also able to secure an appointment just a few hours after calling (on a Saturday), which was a relief! I will certainly return to this clinic for all my veterinary needs.

Fantastic experience: We switched from Smalldoor a year ago and couldn’t be happier. Much better care, prices, and closer to our apartment. I trusted reviews and so far, so good. We’ve seen Dr. Friedman and really liked her! Our 8 year old rescue lab/pitt mix has had a check-up, a full dental cleaning, & nail trim here. Dental cleanings are expensive but their quote was much lower than smalldoor. They did bloodwork & were able to get my dog in within a couple of weeks, were very communicative the entire time when she was done. Her teeth look great. We also love that they save a few time slots for nail trims each week - this is so helpful. Thank you to the great staff!

Fantastic experience: Westside is absolutely outstanding. Dr Cantor has treated my dog and cats for almost 20 years with state of the art care and compassion. The entire staff is wonderful. Their 24h emergency care and hospital are added features. You can even call the nurse in the middle of the night to check on your hospitalized pet! The best in NYC by far.

Negative experience: While I think that the treatment at this veterinary center is excellent, I believe that this center engages in unfair business practices that harm customers, and further has a reception team that is quite abrasive when raising concerns about such business practices. I would recommend purchasing medication from another center and would encourage management to train its reception team better. Specifically, the center does not inform individuals about the cost of medications and services prior to picking up said medications. I was told to purchase medication from the center for my dog, but was not told what type of medication it was or its cost. As a consequence, I was unable to—until receiving a notification that the medication was available at the center—compare the cost of that medication to other vendors. The actual cost of this medication ended up being over two and a half times the cost of medication available from other vendors. The center invited me to call back to discuss concerns, and so I did. When I asked to speak with someone, reception informed me that it was “my responsibility to assess and ask the cost of medication prior to purchasing it.” The problem with this argument is that, given these facts above, it would be difficult to find and seek out alternative, cheaper medication for my dog, without knowing the name of the medication. It ought to be the responsibility of the provider to inform customers of the name of the medication prior to ordering it and making it available for the customer, so that they can fairly evaluate the price. This provider did not do that, which is quite surprising — I’ve never had a veterinary provider not provide me with the expected cost of medication prior to pickup, let alone defend that practice and claim that such a practice is not uncommon. In addition, I found that the receptionist team was neither kind nor accommodative in their response. I did not ask for a refund, nor did I ask for fair compensation; all I stated was that this business practice (not to affirmatively inform customers of the cost and name of the medication prior to pickup) of the center was unfair, and that at the very least the center ought to change that practice. I was met with a level of derision that I think is quite unbecoming of any customer service provider, and the exchange left me questioning whether I should switch veterinary providers more generally. Again, my issue is less with the cost of the medication, and more with the practice of not affirmatively providing customers with the bill prior to expecting said customers to foot the bill. That is a very simple fix that can change easily, but it does not appear that management is interested in changing that practice, to the detriment of customers. In short, I think that this center is excellent in terms of veterinary care, but that it engages in practices that are unfair to the consumer. I hope that they will resolve this issue in the future.

Fantastic experience: I have been taking my pet Rex here for years. Everyone has always been so helpful, kind and accommodating especially when Rex had to be seen as an emergency multiple times. Doctors are all very knowledgeable and take the time to really explain the diagnosis and treatment plan. 10/10 recommend.

Fantastic experience: WSV has been taking care of Kitty for 15 years. They've helped him get through some very serious health issues. Recently when I went to pick up food and medicine, the Front Desk Angels showed me a lot of love & compassion. It renewed my hope! We saw a new veterinarian, Dr. Emily Chang who got Kitty through this latest crisis and gave us a plan.❤️ Kitty has been taken care of by other stellar veterinarians, Dr. Jaime Napolitano is wonderful too! She changed medicine and food and it really helped Kitty.❤️

Fantastic experience: I have lived on a horsefarm for many years with the need for various animal care. When I returned to NY I looked far and wide for the same attention, ease of getting an experienced, knowledgeable doctor to care for my fabulous Bernedoodle. Well, I found everything I desired and more. The kindest staff with the same sense of urgency we all have when we call with a problem for our beloved pets. Fantastic experience: I cannot overstate how wholeheartedly I recommend this Veterinary Practice. They provide world-class care to both my senior Jack Russell, and my younger King Charles Cavalier. Our Vet, Dr. Napolitano, is exceptional, and the entire staff at WVC is extremely competent and compassionate. Especially Murray, the practice manager, who is also exceptionally caring and communicative. Great full service practice , not only vet care , but also pharmacy and boarding. Fantastic experience: Excellent vets; I live uptown near two other large veterinarian practices, but I walk my dog over a mile (or take taxi in less-than-ideal weather) to this veterinary practice. Dr. Brodsky is amazing, but I have seen other, more junior vets, who are excellent as well. Update: March, 2024. In 2021, I moved across town brought my (now) 14 year old beagle to a more conveniently-located practice. As my dog aged, she suffered with various health problems, and I wasn’t confident I was getting good veterinarian care here on the upper east side - so I came back to Westside Vets. It’s worth the taxi ride across town. Now that Dr. Brodsky is retired, I’ve been seeing Dr. Melanie Friedman, and I feel like I am in good hands.

Fantastic experience: In spring 2019, my puppy was attacked and bitten in the face. They arranged for us to be seen very quickly. Dr Lauren seemed very caring and patient. 4 instead of 5 stars because they separated me from my dog to clip the wound area and flush it. I would have preferred to stay with her. Will go back there. It was clean and the staff were helpful and nice. Jan 2020: Last week I went back to the clinic when my dog had an ear infection. Dr Lauren moved to California so I saw Dr. Rutherford. She was kind, gentle, patient and thorough. Two things stood out: 1. At the time of the visit, my pup was also due for shots but they could not administer all on them at the same day so Dr Rutherford arranged for the next round of shots to given by a nurse - no appt necessary and no visit fee. 2. Dr Rutherford phoned three days after our visit to check up on how my pup was doing. It was a nice touch and I plan to make her my pup's primary caretaker in the future. Highly recommended!

Negative experience: I was very unhappy with my experience for my cat. My vet did an ultrasound and made it sound like my cat can die by throwing out lots of diagnoses which cannot be confirmed without a biopsy. When I learned a biopsy could not be performed without vitamin k pills, which would need to be administered by a paid nurse to possibly improve clotting, I was not told of other options besides a monthly cortisone shot. No side effects were explained to me or daily budesonide as an option which has less side effects works very well for IBD. I had to basically demand to speak to the vet about the ultrasound and not in a room of course but while I was in the waiting room when I was in tears. This place does not treat people or animals with the proper respect and I will never return.

Fantastic experience: My cat was diagnosed with cancer and her old vet gave up on her. We were then recommended Westside by a friend and they quickly took us in. I could not imagine going through such a journey anywhere else. Dr. Rosenthal is so caring, careful, and honest. The care, attention to detail, and love that pours out of this place is unparalleled. Lenox ultimately passed away but we gave it all we had with the help of Westside Veterinary. She received the love and attention all animals deserve and passed away peacefully.

Fantastic experience: I'm thrilled with the wonderful care and affection my fur baby Diego it's been given by the hospital manager Murray and his amazing stuff for almost a year now. My baby Diego is a chihuahua mix 16 years young:) and he boards 3 times a week. He loves being showered with their love and affection but who dog doesn't :) In the beginning he was nervous of going due to the fact that we have a very close bond we're pretty much inseparable but very soon he started showing excitement. Fantastic experience: Over the course of 25 years, I’ve been to several veterinary practices . Westside Veterinary Center is by far the best. I transferred my dog’s care here three years ago (when Buster was 9 y.o.) and only wish I had done it sooner. Westside Veterinary Center is a principled, five star practice that has maintained a superb reputation over decades. They have a large staff of top notch veterinarians, including many with decades of expertise. They are supported by a terrific team of vet techs during visits and procedures, and a knowledgeable administrative staff who are efficient and polite no matter how busy it gets. WVC is open 7 days and has extensive evening hours. I don’t know of a private practice that offers more access to quality care. Fees are standard. I am most and forever grateful to Buster's extraordinary vet, Dr. Kim Rosenthal. She took Buster on knowing his was a complicated case, and has looked after him tenderly and beautifully, visit after visit, and following 2 life changing surgeries, performed by Dr. Kosovsky. Veterinary care is not more or less the same everywhere. Bring your animal here.

Fantastic experience: The Best Place ever. Had a hard time finding a place to take my turtle.for care. They were prompt, on top of his care diagnosed him. Negative experience: Not a great experience at this vet--the appointment was very rushed and my pet's sensitive test results were delivered in a crowded waiting room among lots of other people and pets. The vet was clearly overbooked and rushing between appointments. After seeing the vet, I waited at least 30 minutes in the waiting room for the vet tech to bring out my pet's medication which they kept forgetting; eventually, the receptionist told me I needed to move spots to sit right outside the vet tech's office or else "they would never remember to give it to me," which I thought was strange as it's their job to give me the medication I had already paid for. I do believe Dr. Friedman is very knowledgeable and caring but is not able to give clients the personal attention and care they need due to the volume of patients.

Fantastic experience: I switched to Karen Cantors care at Westside Veterinary many years ago after a horrible veterinary experience with my dog Allie. Karen has taken care of 4 of my dogs since then, through their initial exams , heart disease, cushings disease, orthopedic surgery, and i never had to question their care. She has helped me recently with my new overly energetic puppy- with finding a trainer as well as classes for him. Fantastic experience: My cats see Dr. Lewis and she is just wonderful. She's very kind, good with the animals, and clearly explains concepts to people. She's also very transparent about costs and time commitments. Since seeing her, my senior cat with tummy trouble has completely improved. I can't recommend her enough. The rest of the staff is wonderful as well. Even though it's a super busy place, they're always so kind and attentive. If you live in the area, Westside Vet should be your first choice. In all of my years owning animals, they're just the best.

Fantastic experience: I’ve been going to Westside vet for about 20 years with an assortment of critters - dogs, rabbits and a bunch of cats. What can I say about Westside? They are kind and compassionate and they provide the best care possible - and the fact that they are on the short list of places that provides care for exotics (which includes bunnies) can not be underscored.I cannot recommend them highly enough. They have saved my guys bacon more times than I can count.

Fantastic experience: Dr. Friedman is simply phenomenal! As I rushed into the Center early morning (with no appointment), I saw Dr. Friedman walk in with her hot beverage. She was probably looking to enjoy her beverage before starting her day. But as soon as she overheard me tell the receptionist my little princess Lulu's condition, she left her beverage, rushed to the front and immediately took us in! She examined Lulu with such care and kindness, and proceeded to patiently explain matters in layman's terms so I could fully comprehend what was going on with my precious fur baby. She even followed up with a call the next day to check on Lulu. I can't begin to express my gratitude and appreciation for Dr. Friedman. This was my first visit and I will definitely be sharing my positive experience with pet owners. Thank YOU Dr. Friedman!

Negative experience: This place is likely fine for routine care, but I will not and would not recommend to rely on this vet for any serious issues or illnesses in your pet. I'm sick of non transparent veterinarian care, i am not okay with my pet being taken "into the back" with a particular plan to only find out in pieces what actually was done after the fact. Just to find out the most time critical test was not performed until the next day. I will not tolerate a vet I can't get a hold of by phone for an entire day in an emergency especially when the vet stated they would call to follow up that day! I will not tolerate a front desk staff staring no vet is available by phone to discuss what is going on with my pet after an emergency appointment. I will not tolerate a vet telling me they "heard i was concerned with the cost" when I never stated so.

Negative experience: Appointments are incredibly short, I had to wait. Staff were rude. Vet was distracted and paid little attention to my concerns. Tried to upsell dental cleaning. It’s quite clear that this place values pumping out 15-minute appointments as fast as possible to make money. I have since switched to Bond Vet were the vet was genuinely concerned and communicative. My appointment lasted over half an hour. The Vet actually discouraged the dental cleaning given my pet’s other conditions. Better individual care. No rude front desk. No stressful lobby area. Staff take time to explain treatment options and plan. It was also much cleaner & more affordable.

Fantastic experience: I first came to this place a couple years ago after a cat-specific vet turned my boy away while literally telling me if he wasn't seen right away he could die. Westside took him right away. They seem to really care about the animals they work with and overall are very, very good at easing worrisome pet owners such as myself. It is hit or miss with specific vets, some of course are better/more caring/nicer than others, but as a whole this place is great. The vets call to check up if it's an ongoing issue, they return calls almost always same day, and they will slow down and take the time to listen and explain when asked. They also are always trying to make sure that you aren't spending more than you need for various treatments. Definitely recommend!

Fantastic experience: We have been very pleased with the care that our two cats have received from Westside Veterinary Center. Dr. Napolitano is professional, personable and caring; and both Drs. Bodkin and Friedman have been very helpful in emergency situations when we haven't been able to get in with Dr. Napolitano. Because we are first-time pet owners and have only been to Westside Veterinary Center, I can't comment on this practice's pricing in comparison to others. However, it does seem to be fair and priced according to NYC rates. Lastly, all of the veterinary assistants and front-end receptionists we have encountered at the practice have also been lovely to us and to both cats.

Fantastic experience: Dr Friedman is a gift from Heaven. My dog and cat have been seeing her several years. She picked up on my dogs lung cancer extremely early and saved his life. We were referred to specialists who promptly removed the cancer. She is the absolute best. Extremely professional and extremely kind human being. Her support staff is equally fantastic and I paid some of them to walk the dog when I was out of town. They are all fantastic. Best vet clinic I’ve ever been to, and I cannot sing the praises for Dr Friedman any louder. She is so very brilliant and kind.

Fantastic experience: I am one of the oldest clients-- since before the doors opened in the 80's. I have had excellent vets, the lives of cats saved in emergencies and prolonged in ordinary non-emergency life. It is always state of the art care--and personal. Photos are of emergency survivors--a litter of 5 at 6 weeks from food poisoning and cardiac arrest during castration. Thank you, Westside.

Negative experience: Too busy, noisy and lobby is stressful and too small to watch for other dogs and deal with paying. Dr was distracted and did not really explain anything. Was given medicine but no explanation what it does or side effects. Appointments are incredibly short, I had to wait. Staff were rude. It's clear this place values pumping out appointments as fast as possible to make money. EDIT: I go to Brilliant Veterinary now instead. Better individual care. No rude front desk. Positive experience: The vets at this practice are kind, knowledgeable, and great to work with. We’ve seen a few different vets with our French bulldog and they have been patient and warm with both the animal and the humans in the room! While the vets are top notch (and really…that’s what you’re here for) prepare yourself for a frustrating waiting room experience. It could be that the team is simply understaffed right now, which is understandable. But the last three visits, after a smooth and easy 20 min appointment with the vet I’ve been stuck waiting for another 30 min or longer just to have prescriptions filled and pay my bill.

Fantastic experience: And again Dr. Rutherford and her staff were amazing with our big dog. They were friendly, kind, professional, and caring during the exam and while drawing blood from my 10 year old dog. The place was very clean and welcoming. Great place to go with your pets!

Negative experience: Do not take your pet to this vet! I took my dog here for about 2.5 years because it was close and they have great hours for owners who work full time but it is not worth it. There are much better vets in the area. The last straw was recently when my dog had a cough and the vet kept him on the same antibiotic for two weeks before telling us to come in for a chest x-ray. I brought him in at 7pm for them to tell me that the x-ray machine was actually broken since that morning and they didn’t know when it would be fixed. When I asked why they didn’t call me so I could reschedule, the vet said the “front doesn’t always know what’s going on in the back.” She then said she wouldn’t charge me but after having a 10 minute conversation said she was going to give me a “low charge” of $30 because we “had a conversation.” I thought a short conversation was the least she could do for wasting my time bringing my dog all the way there after work just to find out the machine was broken. Needless to say this was extremely unprofessional and I never went back. Our new vet took a chest x-ray the next day, switched the antibiotic immediately (as the first one obviously wasn’t working) and then suggested zyrtec for allergies when the new antibiotic didn’t work after just a few days. This did the trick. Westside Vet was going to give him an opioid cough suppressant. Previous terrible experiences include having to leave my dog there over night, going home to get his dinner to bring back to the vet, to find out when I picked him up the next day that they forgot to feed him dinner. They could not offer an explanation. A $1000 bill and they could not even remember to feed my dog. Another experience includes calling them when my dog had extremely bloody diarrhea. The clerk at the front desk told me they had no appointments for 3 days, but to feed chicken and rice in the meantime. Chicken and rice is not proper medical advice for a dog whose stool only consisted of liquid blood. He needed medication and fluids right away. The only reason we didn’t switch vets sooner is because my dog barely goes and they were fine for routine check ups and shots. The lack of caring, terrible administration, and unprofessional veterinary service at this place is unacceptable and I’m shocked they have as many good reviews as they do. They do have one vet who I liked, but it was not worth all of the negatives of this place. Do yourself a favor and go elsewhere.

Fantastic experience: My pup Gooses’ has gone here to see the Doc several times and each time the visit is timely and thorough. We’ve visited several vets and I must say our experience here feels TOP NOTCH each time. Also a bonus that they’re really nice when accommodating our schedule. Thank you Doctor Rutherford and the whole team!

Fantastic experience: I can’t say enough good things about west side veterinary center. They are attentive and caring….I brought my little boy Diesel here on several occasions…. From Dog bites to paw injuries….. and time and time again…. from making an appointment on the phone. to the receptionist….. as well as the Doctor……in this case it was Dr.Bodkin…. They were amazingly nice thoughtful and caring……Please bring the little member of your family here …… you won’t regret it. Thank you guys……From Diesel Rivas the Yorkie and his Dad….❤️❤️❤️❤️

Fantastic experience: The dreaded emergency visit to the vet is enough to set most humans on edge for multiple reasons. I'm not sure if the design of the office was conceptualized for what I'm about to point out but the openness helped alleviate stress. We were seated parallel to the window and could see through towards the back. At another vet's office we waited in the front while they took our cat to the back. At this location we accompanied our cat to the examine room. She was escorted upstairs for bloodwork while we briefly waited in the examine room. This process felt inclusive and natural. The vet was compassionate and discussed cost along with procedures. We didn't feel vilified for considering budgetary choices. The staff is respectful and friendly. On one visit to pick up medication I gave my cat's name and one of the nurses gleefully repeated the name because she remembered my cat. It felt like home in that moment.

Fantastic experience: Our (currently) 7month old pup Stella has been seeing Dr. Jones since she was 8 weeks old and she LOVES her and WVC!!! Everyone at WVC has been fantastic and we feel our girl is in the best care when she’s here. When she realizes she’s on the street of the vet’s office, she gets very excited and runs to the door. We’ve also had visits with Dr. Freeman and Dr. Canter and both were fabulous, too. The best bedside manner and timely and caring and SO knowledgeable. Thank you Westside Vet!!!

Fantastic experience: Dr. Rosenthal is the absolute best Vet we have ever been to. He has never been happier and healthier. Great staff and vet techs! They answer the phone 24/7.
