Fantastic experience: We had a great first time experience at Avian and Exotic Animal Care. Upendo our hognose did not seem to be acting appropriately. They were kind and compassionate, and we were impressed with their skill and knowledge. We will definitely be coming back for both preventive care and problem based care.

Fantastic experience: Wonderful people with an ability to help exotic pets and their owners. They have helped my guinea pigs with upper respiratory issues, hay poke, and give wonderful care. I would suggest getting your exotic pets in for regular check-ups here if you plan to use Avian & Exotic at all, as being in the system makes fitting your pets in for emergencies easier (in my experience).

Fantastic experience: They found out immediately what was wrong with my bearded dragon. He has to have surgery and the only downside was the price. It is pretty expensive but I don't have a choice so he has a healthy life.

Fantastic experience: Avian and Exotic Animal Care always have friendly and informative staff to greet you at the front desk. Appointments are dealt with promptly and efficiently and in a kindly manner - both to the pet and the owner. For Messi, my parakeet, the nail and beak trim cost is half that of our local veterinarian practice. Wouldn't go anywhere else!

Fantastic experience: Avain and Exotics was the only vetinary hospital willing to see my flock of 5 Cockatoo Parrots for general health exams in one appointment. This was a tremendous help as they were 2 1/2 hrs away. Dr Locke and her team did an exceptional job. Each bird watched with curiosity and calmly waited for their turn without fear of harm. It was a great experience. Thank you.

Fantastic experience: My parrot has received excellent care for an intermittent seasonal issue over a number of years. I have been very pleased with the avian team from doctors to staff. This is a hard working, knowledgeable, caring team. I also board my parrot there when I travel and appreciate the attention he gets during these stays, allowing me to travel without worry.

Fantastic experience: 2nd review: My 20 year old female African grey parrot who has heart disease became egg bound and thankfully A&E worked her in as an emergency patient. Dr. Gallentine tried several techniques to help her lay the egg on her own. But when it became clear that she wasn't going to pass it, Dr. Gallentine did an ovocentesis (surgical egg removal) which was a success! My grey is not an easy patient (high risk due to her active heart disease) and I was concerned about her making it through the surgery. My grey is in much relief now and back to her normal self. I feel the care she received was the best avian medicine has to offer. Thank you! 1st review for preview services: Dr. Gallentine and assistant Marie were fabulous with Jackie and me. Dr. G was sensitive to my concerns and answered all my questions. She was realistic about what to expect regarding my grey's health problem. Marie was thorough and supportive.

Fantastic experience: I found my way to this practice when my 18-year-old Quaker parrot, Bibi, broke his leg. We began weekly visits with Dr. Eckermann-Ross as we worked to heal it, but unfortunately it was ultimately determined that amputation was necessary. Dr. Eckermann-Ross performed the surgery and supported us through the entire recovery process. I felt informed, cared for, and truly supported throughout the ordeal, and I am deeply grateful to the entire team for the compassion and love they showed my bird during such a difficult time. Since then, I have used their boarding services many times and always have complete peace of mind knowing Bibi is receiving excellent care while I’m away. Carissa consistently sends daily photos and updates, which means so much to me. We recently had a visit with Dr. Sokolik, who was just as warm, compassionate, and wonderful as Dr. Eckermann-Ross. Honestly, the silver lining of Bibi breaking his leg was finding this practice. If you have birds, I cannot recommend them highly enough.

Fantastic experience: Updated 1/27/26: Yesterday the time came for my heart rat to move on to the next world. It was sudden but they got us in right away. Dr. Gallentine was professional, empathetic and super nice- she treated my little man as if he was one of her own. It helped make the process of losing Julius a little less awful. I am forever thankful for all their hard work, and the fact that my little sick feeder rat lived an incredibly happy life for almost 2 years is a testament to their dedication for these animals. The doctors and nurses always treat my ratties with love; they are gentle, helpful and informative. We LOVE our usual vet Dr. Sokolik, but had a last minute emergency with one of my girls, so we saw Dr. Boon. She was great, also! You can’t really go wrong here with any of the veterinarians and nurses.

Fantastic experience: Everyone at this clinic was wonderful when I brought my parrot in for an emergency visit. They were able to see us right away, and were patient with us throughout the visit. I am so grateful for the kindness and expertise of the entire staff. Thank you for helping me through a difficult time.

Fantastic experience: Amazing kind and knowledgeable staff. Brought 2 snakes, a bearded dragon, leopard gecko and a hedgehog here and have always had a great experience. Will bring a holland lop soon.

Fantastic experience: I’ve been taking my Green Cheek Conure, Gucci, here ever since I got him nearly 4 years ago. Gucci is my first bird, and when I first brought him here to the clinic, the staff were so friendly and informative. He’s been coming here ever since for his checkups and boarding! They take such good care of my little guy, we are very happy clients.

Fantastic experience: Dr. Dan did a surgery on our sweet little piggie about a year and a half ago and he was extremely knowledgeable and patient with us. He even let us board her bonded sister with her while she was there. Fast forward, about five weeks ago, our baby girl had another tumor that turned out to be cancer. Dr. Dan, Dr. Locke, and Dr. Eckermann-Ross took great care of our girl and assisted support our at home care and helped us with everything we needed. They always made time for our girl and for us and never rushed our appointments. Unfortunately today, our sweet Cinnamon lost her battle and we made the decision to let her go. Dr. Locke was so kind, caring, and compassionate and was with us every step of the way. I cannot recommend Avian and Exotic Animal Care enough. They are wonderful. The front office staff is kind and the techs are also so sweet. They all took the time to get to know us and Cinnamon. I am forever grateful to them. Their experience is unmatched but most of all, they truly care.

Fantastic experience: I can’t say enough good things about this veterinary clinic. They took excellent care of my birds and demonstrated an impressive level of knowledge about avian health. What truly stood out was how kind and patient the staff was with my 12-year-old daughter, who had so many questions about her birds. They took the time to answer every question thoughtfully and made her feel included and confident. We travel an hour and 30 minutes to visit this clinic, and it is absolutely worth the drive. It’s clear they truly care about both their patients and the families who love them. I highly recommend this clinic to any bird owner.

They are treating Bluey for lipoma's on breast and back.

Fantastic experience: Amazing staff across the board and they truly care about your animals. From the minute you walk on to the minute you walk out, just kindness all around.

Negative experience: If I could give 0 stars, I would in a heartbeat. I highly do not recommend taking your fur babies here at Avian & Exotic for any health crisis. Due to limited exotic vets in our area for our guinea pig, we thought we could trust this vet with their “knowledge” with guinea pigs and overall compassion. I woke up in the middle of the night after leaving our Brownie overnight with Avian & Exotic (to help with GI Stasis and file Brownie’s molars) with this strange feeling and knowing something just wasn’t right. Even I knew and could sense Brownie was not doing any better hours away. The next morning arrives and we get a call from the doctor informing us Brownie has not made any progress overnight after all their “treatments”. We make the trip back to our Brownie and one of the assistants brings Brownie in the room we were waiting in, and we noticed a streak of blood on his fur—like y’all couldn’t have any HUMAN DECENCY to wipe that off of him before bringing him in the room or was that going to cost money too?!?? Just SAD! The doctor even informed us that Brownie’s (personality) was not as bright as he was the day prior (which was yesterday and his very first visit) and showing signs of a head tilt and Brownie keeping his head low. These were all NEW symptoms after just ONE night stay with Avian & Exotic. (We could tell he was lifting his head involuntarily too, and that’s when I realized it was convulsions later on) We informed the doctor that we will be taking over the responsibility of syringe feeding (like we already were doing at home) and administering Brownie’s medication that he was discharged with. I was also messaging with a guinea pig expert in another state too (who also has a YouTube educating about guinea pigs) ever since Brownie wasn’t himself and not eating all of a sudden and they informed us to take Brownie home as soon as possible (which we were going to, because I didn’t want brownie staying another day) because at this point everything they were doing (and of course they were going to keep charging for their “basic care” ), we could do at home. *Please do your research and ask what they will provide your fur baby (the drugs, medicine, etc.) if they will be performing a surgery. Advocate for your fur baby! The emergency drugs could be harmful especially if given altogether. We understand that there are minor or severe effects after an animal has drugs and surgery but don’t dismiss the fact that WE KNOW our fur baby and knew what symptoms he had before we left him in your care and after. The next day, our sweet baby boy, Brownie, crossed the rainbow bridgeWe did not want Brownie to suffer any longer. In the waiting room at another animal hospital, he was wrapped up warm in our arms, giving him all the love and kisses that he always deserved. So calm. So perfect. Our baby knew it was his time…he crawled up so fast to our neck, almost flying out of our arms and started seizing for a couple of seconds as soon as we got in the room for him to be put to sleep. We felt that the doctor and the care provided failed Brownie as his health deteriorated and he was displaying new symptoms that were heartbreaking to watch your fur baby go through. She is clearly avoiding a discussion via phone regarding the drugs administered to Brownie. Since Brownie was under her care, it makes sense to want to talk to the doctor that was treating our fur baby. From our visits and emails, their staff is unprofessional especially the front desk (that one dude is an example), unorganized, and lacks efficient communication (which is why I wanted to speak via phone) and will keep going back and forth with you as if you don’t know your OWN fur baby. This place needs to be reviewed and their exotic license because my Brownie’s story clearly is not the only one I see by looking at their reviews… Also, be aware of letting them know how much you have for credit beforehand They are SNEAKY and absolutely NOT worth it in the end result! Fantastic experience: I've been taking my two male guinea pigs to them for years. They always treat them like guinea pig royalty. Everyone is always friendly. You can tell they really love animals and love their jobs. I would recommend them to anyone.

Fantastic experience: They are the best reptile veterinary in the triangle. Everyone is super friendly . We had an emergency with our gecko and they found us an appointment right away and we're able to help us.

Fantastic experience: I took my budgies Pea and Lief in today for a wellness check-up, and being a new budgie owner, I had a lot of questions. They were super patient with me, answered all my questions and even put together a whole folder for me of common illness so I knew what to be on the lookout for! They were super gentle with my birds, up front about costs and never once made me feel judged for the (many) questions I asked. Overall, I'm very happy with the service I recieved!

Negative experience: We used to take our hedgehog here since they were relatively affordable. Our hedgehog (she) had periodontal disease and the vet here wanted to have all of her teeth removed. We decided not to and instead, we put her on meloxicam that they prescribed for her for the pain. Months later, she started peeing blood so we went back here. We felt guilt tripped/fear mongered by this place since they said it was due to us not having her teeth removed and that the disease spread/she might have cancer. They wanted to run all of these tests and have her come back every week/couple of weeks for check up. Anyways we went to NC State Vet for a second opinion. They told us we made the right decision to say "no" to the teeth removal procedure since it would lead to unnecessary stress and that it wouldn't have prevented her other conditions from developing. The blood in her urine was unrelated since it was due to vaginal cysts. Additionally, the meloxicam prescribed to us could have led to her developing kidney disease. We told Avian and Exotic our concerns with the medication before, which was just brushed off. NC State was so much more competent and understanding of our situation compared to this place. I wish we went to NC State Vet first. Summary: Avian and Exotic Animal Care is a guilt trippy organization that does not know what they're doing with hedgehogs. They just want your money by running unnecessary tests and procedures without providing strong scientific backing. Maybe this place provides better service for other animals, but if you have a hedgehog, I do not recommend you coming here.

Fantastic experience: What a fantastic facility if you have any exotic animal. I have an eleven year old African Gray. Of course she doesn’t like going to the vet but this staff is so good with her. She has never had an issue of any kind since being under their care. I highly recommend Avian and Exotic Care.

Fantastic experience: I recently had an emergency with my Green Cheek, Poblano. Panicked, I called Avian and Exotic Animal Care. I didn't know what to do, so I called them because I had been going to them for her general vet business, shots, etc. The team was quick to tell me to bring her right in, no questions asked. The team saved my baby, and she is currently back home recovering from her injuries and doing so well. I can not recommend this place enough. From the front desk team to Dr. Gallentine- they were incredible, sensitive, and honest with me and my bird. The team is so knowledgeable and worked seamlessly to handle not only my emergency, but what I can imagine was a full house of different animals as well. They also gave me a tutorial on how to give my bird medication and took the time to explain and show me how it was done. I was also kept in the loop about her condition throughout the day. If I could give a 6-star review, I would do it in a heartbeat. Thank you for helping Poblano. I am forever in your debt.

Fantastic experience: We've been taking our guinea pigs here since 2019. There is no one else we would trust with our pets. We've seen them for everything from surgeries to palliative care to ringworm. They are knowledgeable, compassionate, and competent. More recently, our guinea pig Jalapeño hadn't walked in five days. After Dr. Sokolik saw her and prescribed treatment, she was walking in two days. Thank you guys for taking such great care of our piggies.

Fantastic experience: These guys are the best from Dr. Dan Johnson and all his staff and techs. They are compassionate, they truly care about your baby and your feelings. They were very knowledgeable, professional and made you feel like your baby was the only one. I would highly recommend them to anyone and I will be using them again.

Fantastic experience: Carissa and staff are very professional, knowledgeable, caring and kind care takers. They will keep a watchful eye on your pet. They also stay in touch with you daily on the status of your pet and send pictures as well. We have had an excellent experience boarding our Blue and Gold macaw, Simon.

Fantastic experience: This place is the best! Everyone is so friendly and helpful. If it weren't for the vets and staff, my rabbit Brandon wouldn't be here today. They did a great job with his tooth abscess.

Negative experience: Doc Johnson and his assistant showed up late to our home appointment that took two weeks to get only after a booking fee. I was denied any information about Elvis after reaching out by text and a phone call. Sam only wanted my credit card number and had no total of cost or breakdown of services. I was at work during the appointment time and company policy is no cell phones which was relayed to the office, and supposedly they made a note. After completion of payment I was told I would receive test results and notes about Elvis's health in an email and it still hasn't arrived. Very disappointed I paid $500.00 for nothing. I checked their app as well and nothing. The bill collector and the assistant were very condescending and rude. I don't like being treated like Elvis doesn't matter!

Fantastic experience: I went here a couple months back for my Uromastyx, Jiji, and this hospital is fantastic! She has been doing a thousand times better since we took her here right after we got her. Dr. Boon and the team were super kind, helpful, and patient with us as well. The hospital was clean, organized, and everything was kept on top of. We had a great time! Edit: these photos are almost 4 months apart, from the time we first brought her here to now :)

Fantastic experience: Bring your pet here without a doubt that they will receive the best care and you will be taken care of kindly as well! I brought my leopard gecko here when he was sick and dealing with multiple symptoms. I felt very scared for him and didn’t know where to turn. I ended up getting him in to see Avian and Exotic Animal Care, and after an initial appointment and some rechecks, he is feeling all better. The staff taught me how to administer his medications, as well as advised me on changes to make at home. In the age of the internet, this clear information is very helpful and invaluable. This is also a very safe space for all identities. Thank you all at the office & book today for your pet!

Fantastic experience: I can’t say enough good things about Avian. My ferret, Winnie, had to be euthanized August 29. During her sickness we received the best care for her. They went above and beyond to do everything for her. She was loved so much and is missed greatly. They are still taking care of our other ferrets. If you want to complain about prices just remember you get what you pay for. I would do anything for my babies. Thank you to all Avian employees.

Fantastic experience: Took my bird for a beak wing and nail trim. I was coming a long distance. The staff was great. I really appreciated that they held by bird for a coupel hours since it was so hot out I feared for his safety. I was able to spend time with a friend I had not seen for a long time to celebrate her birthday. Thanks for exceptional customer service which is lacking in our avian business arena today!

Fantastic experience: I love this place. They are caring and keep you informed. They take the time with your pet - I have had a dwarf rabbit named Grey until he died and that is the only place I would take him. I have a Green Cheek Conure "Baby Boy" and newly acquired Bearded Dragon "Asher". Asher spent a few days with them because she is so young she could not be left alone. They called me every day and sent pictures. They took very good care of my baby

Fantastic experience: This is Coconut. Dr. Sokolik (and others when she was out of town) cared for her for several years, as she had a severe heart murmur and was so stubborn that she would not consume hay, forcing us to have her teeth trimmed. The anesthesia was troubling given her age and heart, but the team took great care of her. When it was time to help her cross the bridge, there was only one doctor I wanted, and that was Dr. Sokolik. Her empathy was not unnoticed and the team gave me as much time as I needed to say goodbye. Can't say enough about the team, from the front end staff all the way up.

Fantastic experience: I brought my two spider babies Maggie and Lily in for a check up .. Dr Johnson and Dr Sojolik came in to check out the babies.. they were both great.. very caring and knowledgeable .. I learned a lot about there diet today also.

Fantastic experience: Had an emergency with one of our birds. He had a broken wing bone. I called the night before and they set me up to bring him in first thing the following morning. They saw him right away and treated him with pain medication and antibiotics. They wrapped and stabilized his wing and sent us home with all the meds we needed. Even though they had several walk ins that morning they still treated my bird quickly and with compassion. I love this place and so do my birds.

Fantastic experience: I really enjoyed bringing my baby Budgies to their office. The staff was very friendly and gentle with my timid babies. This is going to our go to from here on out. I recommend anyone who needs Avian Care to please go here. The staff is very knowledgeable and will answer any questions that you have about your little one.

Fantastic experience: I wouldn’t take my birds anywhere else. They always take great care of my babies, and even when we recently lost one of them the team was so wonderful with the process and helping us coordinate after life care. I will continue to take my conure here, and I’d definitely recommend this vet to anyone looking for for somewhere to take your babies for excellent veterinary care!

Fantastic experience: I had the wonderful opportunity to have my bearded dragon be treated by Dr. Galentine, she was an absolutely amazing vet, she answered all of my questions and concerns with confidence, reassured me of my worries and kept me up-to-date with my blood work results the following day. I will definitely be coming back to avian and exotic animal care vet in the future, and I will be recommending it to anyone and everyone that has an unusual pet!

I was very anxious to have my rabbits spayed and neutered but the team answered all of my questions and reassured me throughout the process. Both of my rabbits are recovering beautifully. I’m glad I chose Avian and Exotic animal care for my rabbits. We will continue to use them for our exotic vet needs!

Fantastic experience: I have been bringing Olly my Jenday Conure to Dr. Dan and the techs there for 11 years now. Olly is going on 12 years old :) They always have the time to answer your questions. They care for my bird with the upmost care. I love the staff there too. But Dr Dan is my go to. They are available any time, which is great, when you do need that.

Fantastic experience: The entire staff was friendly, courteous and professional! Dr Dan exhibited the same characteristics, and he was genuinely interested in the health and well being of my pet! I highly recommend this practice!

Fantastic experience: The ONLY vets experienced and specializing in exotic pets, such as parrots, reptiles, and other unusual pets. I have seen 2 of the different vets there and they were both remarkable and treated my poor Conure, who has an enlarged heart (like the great Secretariat), with care and kindness. Raleigh is extremely fortunate to have specialized vets like these, as many cities and towns don't. Expect to pay higher than vet prices for cats and dogs, since this is a specialty practice, and compounding medicine, if required, is made right there, as is special dietary foods for birds that normal pet stores don't carry. There's even a Customer Re-Homing notebook, where people can post their own unusual pet that needs a new home for whatever reason. If you buy or rescue an exotic pet and don't know exactly how to take care of it, take it in for annual health checkups, just like you would for any other pet, child or yourself. They will answer any questions about care and nutrition to help. As long as my bird lives, this will be his doctor and I'm happy to recommend it.

Fantastic experience: Everyone of you guys there have went above and beyond for both of my marmosets! Harlow was taken care of so fast and y’all got me in the same day without hesitation. And this past week you did the same with Honey. She is such a happy girl now thanks to you all. I honestly can’t say enough amazing things. If anyone needs a vet THIS is the one to go to. We drive almost 3 hours each way and it is WELL WORTH EVERY MILE!! We love y’all so BIG!!!

Fantastic experience: I have been taking my bearded dragons here for years. As my oldest beardie has gotten older and had more health difficulties, they've been here with me the whole way. My concerns are taken seriously and the care they deliver is superb. I trust no one else with their health.

Fantastic experience: I brought my bunny in for stasis symptoms. We got in within an hour. The staff were so kind and supportive. Dr. Boon was amazing. Within minutes, she had determined the root cause of my bun’s symptoms (liver lobe torsion) and he was prepped and ready for surgery. I have heard from many other bunny owners that a lot of vets would have missed this diagnosis. We are so grateful she caught it and preferred the surgery so successfully. She kept us in the loop every step of the way, explained things so I could understand, and even had Kleenex when the tears were flowing. She is knowledgeable, pragmatic, and kind - couldn’t ask for a better vet for our bunnies!

Fantastic experience: The staff at the front desk were friendly and the vet and assistant were knowledgeable and helpful. I brought in my two Green Cheek Conures and I felt that they were cared for and respected, even when they were being less than cooperative.

Fantastic experience: For two years, I have dreaded the spay on Kaia. From all of the horror stories that you hear about monkeys and anesthesia Dr Dan and his staff were absolutely amazing and so attentive to my precious girl they go above and beyond the front desk, even handled my annoyance by having them go back and check every 20 to 30 minutes lol Even after we left Dr Dan kept in touch to check in on Kaia. We drove three hours to take her to him to do the procedure per referral from other primate families. I would have made 10+ hour drive if that’s what it took to go to the best and this place is definitely the best! Thank you all so much for making this very scary situation to a smooth and caring process.

Fantastic experience: I was worried to bring my 1-year old bearded dragon to a normal vet, knowing that they wouldn't have any expertise on reptiles. Although, in my area that would've been my only option. So about an hour and a half away, I took my pet Calvin, to this vet, and I couldn't be more thankful. Knowing that they only work on exotics relieved my stress, and they were the sweetest people. I would always recommend Avian and Exotic Animal Care!

Fantastic experience: We came here for urgent care while visiting family. This practice was clean, professional, and state of the art! All of the staff were very professional and very knowledgeable, and the vet took time to thoroughly examine my little budgie and gave him excellent care! I drive an hour to take my Bearded Dragon here because they are the best in the region, and will do the exam with you in the room. I highly recommend Avian and Exotic Animal Care. Fantastic experience: Everyone we met with was kind and welcoming. We came during an emergency and the vets and techs gave us time and space to plan our pet's care with no judgment or pressure. All staff were highly knowledgeable and if they weren't sure of something would refer to other colleagues. The facilities are state of the art and all inhouse. I was extremely impressed with the speed and efficiency of the care. All pricing was transparent and made clear before services were rendered. There we no surprise fees or add-ons. This vet is better than most doctor's offices or hospitals I've been to. Over all I was extremely pleased and impressed. Thank you all so much!

Fantastic experience: I'm a first time rabbit owner and when looking to get my girl, Fufu, spayed, I decided to go with Avian & Exotic Animal Care. It was a little less than an hour drive but completely worth it! All of their doctors are qualified, professional, and efficient at their jobs—I knew my bun was in good hands. They gave update calls before and after her surgery, as well as the morning after to let me know how she was doing which was very much appreciated. They're also fair in pricing compared to other exotic places I checked out, so I definitely recommend Avian & Exotic for anyone looking to take their special baby to the vet! They've earned a permanent customer if I ever decide to get another exotic pet. P.s. here's my baby girl after she got home from her spay included! ☺️

Fantastic experience: Thank you to the incredible Avian and Exotic team and Dr. Sokolik for seeing 10 of the birds recently rescued from the Raleigh puppy mill bust. Given the birds’ condition, it was a long and detailed appointment, but the rescued chickens received truly exceptional care from a team of highly skilled and deeply compassionate veterinarians and technicians. For the first time, these birds experienced the level of care they have always deserved. While one of the hens received a more difficult prognosis than we had hoped, we are so grateful that the veterinary team didn’t give up. Instead, they are working tirelessly to improve her quality of life for as long as possible. She’s fighting and so is the team. We are beyond grateful for the expert knowledge, kindness, and dedication shown to these animals. Raleigh is incredibly fortunate to have such an outstanding team of avian and exotic specialists. Fantastic experience: Avian and Exotic animal care is absolutely amazing! You can tell that all the staff members there truly care for animals and want to help in any way they can. I have always had amazing interactions with all the receptionist! I of course have to shout out Dr. Dan as he saved my guinea pigs life more than once! He is very good at what he does and is very caring about you and your animal. I don’t know what we would have done without him!

Fantastic experience: I have brought my sun conure, Mango to this vet for 5 years now. There are other Avian vets I can choose to go, but hands down this Avian vet cares and goes above and beyond. Fantastic experience: Dr. Ashton Boon and this clinic’s staff were incredibly caring, knowledgeable, and thorough during my three visits for my elderly Syrian hamster, including the final visit for euthanasia. Thank you for taking small pets seriously and helping me care for my companion until the end. (My only suggestion is to consider playing more chill music in the waiting room if possible. It felt a bit dissonant to listen to loud rock while waiting to put my pet down.)

Fantastic experience: I love this clinic! I drive from Walnut Cove to have them examine my birds. This past visit I was waiting for test results for one of my birds. The vet told me it would be a week. It ended up being two weeks. Thankfully, the test result confirmed my bird is healthy, but that was an agonizing wait. One piece of advice I would offer is to not leave pet owners twisting in the wind. I would've greatly appreciated an email or text letting me know that the test is still at the lab instead of 13 days of silence. I still love this clinic, but I hope I never have to wait for test results again.

Fantastic experience: Vader wishes she could rate this place more to offset all the 1 star spam reviews because without this place she would not be here. Vader had a tough start with a bout of tail rot and early diagnosis of gout in her first 4 months. However, this establishment has given Vader a second chance on life and the outlook looks great for the next many years. Vader has gone from barely moving to nonstop energy and 115 grams at 6 months. Dr. Tepedino has helped with providing an objective prognosis, treatment options, debunked my reddit worries and provided top care for Vader I am thankful for the staff, the techs and doctors that provide care for the number of exotic animals that come through their doors.

Fantastic experience: The vets here have been great helping me with my Chahoua gecko, that from what I understand is not common for them. A plan of care was worked up and she's been improving daily. They also have been wonderful about getting me appts that work with my schedule.

Fantastic experience: I brought my marmoset Milo here expecting to have to put him down after a decline in health and him mourning the loss of his buddy. Dr. Dan squeezed us in as an emergency, I drove the 3.5 hours and he was very thorough… and immediately diagnosed and did test to confirm his suspicions. That was about a month ago and Milo while still recovering is doing MUCH better and continues to improve everyday. I couldn’t afford the treatment plan Dr. Dan recommended initially (overnight ICU stay for multiple days) but he was very kind and provided some alternative options and additional supports to help me nurse him back to health at home. I do believe his pricing is reasonable for exotic care! I will continue to see him for all my monkey needs. I am very thankful for him and his staff, I did not expect to leave that office with my baby and surely didn’t expect him to bounce back the way he continues to do everyday :)

Fantastic experience: Dr. Kapp was amazing with my rescued corn snake for his first wellness exam. All of the technicians, assistants, and customer service staff I encountered were very friendly and thorough. The atmosphere of the hospital was great as well. They were helpful and understanding over text when I had to reschedule my appointment when my snake went into shed, and were able to get me in promptly a few days later. I will definitely be returning with my guy, and all exotic pets in the future!

Fantastic experience: This is the only place I trust to bring my ferrets. They are all incredibly knowledgeable and all the employees are very kind. I drive over an hour one way to see them every time I have an appointment, and I continue to do it because they are very best.

Fantastic experience: I took my rabbit to AEAC. She was acting off. The staff were great at comforting my rabbit and running tests to diagnose the issue. I love that AEAC loves my rabbit as much as I do. 05-20-25: The staff was very good with Dasher. She was extra wiggly during the visit but the staff contained her and performed all the needed tasks with care and consideration for her well being.

Fantastic experience: Amazing Vets for bunnies! I took my baby bunny for an emergency consultation because he was going through an extended GI Stasis which had lasted 1 week. Before going to Avian I had taken my 5 month old bun a week earlier to Emergency Vet Hospital in Cary, for GI Stasis, where he was seen and somewhat treated, the vets were nice but only told me stuff I already knew about GI Stasis and prescribed him anti inflammatory medicine and critical care. He unfortunately didn’t get any better despite taking both. A week later I called in early morning to see if Avian had any openings and they kindly accommodated me and my bun. I have a rat phobia and they even made sure there wouldn’t be any rats/mice at the time I would be there. The vet Dr. Boon and the vet tech Kirsten were both amazing, gentle with my bun, and overall provided an excellent service. My bun had lost half of his weight in a week!! After doing some x-rays and bloodwork, the only thing that was found was gas in his stomach, so determining the cause of his GI Stasis wasn’t the outcome that day, however, the vets treated him with injected medication and we also went home with oral medication. The vets said he should he good in 48 hours and like magic he was! It’s been a week now and he’s back to his normal self. I gave him his medication on the dot everyday and syringe fed him critical care and water! As a side note, I have MetLife pet insurance for my bun which so far has been quick to reimburse me. I would highly recommend this veterinary, everyone is excellent, and the service is worth your money!

Fantastic experience: There isn’t a better avian/exotic pet vet anywhere nearby. The team here is outstanding. They approach care with compassion and they always ensure that we understand what they are doing and why. We love to board our bird here when we go out of town because we know they are going to give him the love he needs while we’re out of town. Pants is so so grateful for this amazing team!
