Experiencia negativa: My visits for my bunny was for checkup & vaccine. Dr. Jenny was good and take care of her. Unfortunately their technicians were not knowledgeable about rabbits and made my rabbit very uncomfortable. Wasn’t even able to calm the rabbit(she was extremely stressed) and didn’t know how to hold her accurately and couldn’t put the needle one the first couple of tries. Didn’t know how to handle at all. I was so stressed because they could have hurt her. They put the thermometer in and out like 20 TIMES because they couldn’t spot where was it.

And when Dr Jenny called me later with the lab results, she made sure all my questions were answered. Such a professional and caring team!

We also always get a follow up call to check on our pet's progress. We've had both dogs and cats as patients there and we have felt very happy with the treatment for both.

The staff is very caring and kind and they've exceeded my expectations in quality of care, service and affordability! They don't force you to choose between "upgrades" to your pets care or sacrificing their comfort for financial stability. Experiencia fantástica: Truly a pleasure to go to Animal House of Chicago! I’ve had very poor experiences with other exotic vets and that has not been the case here. The staff are very knowledgeable and compassionate, the former being hard to find when it comes to ferret care!!! I’ve boarded one of my ferrets here and gotten him a deslorelin implant replacement. Both times the care has been impeccable and staff gush over seeing him!! I will be taking my second ferret here the next time she needs a checkup as well! Not to mention the prices here have been cheaper than the other exotic vet I was taking them to with way less wait times at appointments!

Experiencia negativa: We were referred to a vet there by a local reptile expert. Last year, our reptile was examined by an experienced exotic pet vet. This year, they switched us to a less-experienced doctor without telling us at time of booking. It is improper to switch doctors without first telling the client. They did not examine our pet on the exam table in front of us like other places do. Front staff grumpy, not cordial. AHC violates Federal Privacy Laws by mentioning our pet's name here in public without our permission.

My first visit was for a broken bone, they were very knowledgeable & the dr stayed with my girl who was in an incubator post surgery all nite. Ive bought a couple more for anything from checkups to tooth issues. My most recent experience w the staff & Dr Jenny has been absolutely amazing, they take such thorough care & more importantly actually CARE about your pet. From Dr's to front desk, everyone has been wonderful, understanding & such a joy to work with. Would recommend for your furry/feathered/scaly loved one whatever the need. Yesterday we had to put our sweet old man to rest and Dr Jenny and Savannah took such good care of him. They were so gentle with Ben, honest with us about his condition, and informative about the process. I don’t feel that we were overcharged for their services either. Will definitely be taking our other pigs here for medical care moving forward.

Experiencia negativa: Dr. Stephanie Heniff was the one who treated my daughter's guinea pig for a broken tooth and ended up cutting the tooth with the guinea pig under anesthesia and with two medications that were not necessary, which killed my daughter's guinea pig. She charged almost $800 dollars plus the food that I went back to buy and in two weeks the medication killed my daughter's guinea pig. It was completely healthy. Please do not take your pets here if you do not want to go through the suffering of losing your pet like us, we cannot stop crying from the helplessness. This place is not trustworthy. On the 4th-7th I took my guinea pig because the day before he didn’t eat due to a loose tooth. And you say he hadn’t eaten for days which is false he would have died the next day. They also said they gave me special treatment by giving me a free nail trim which I didn’t ask for for free. Also the vet said he had an infection but didn’t know what kind of infection and gave him antibiotics. That should have been my first red flag, but I followed the instructions. They also gave him pain medication called Meloxicam 0.65 ml once a day for two weeks. This medication causes ulcers, bleeding, perforation in the intestines, cardiac arrest, and what is fatal? Causes his death. And you say it was from not eating? A week later I returned for more food for another week since I had an appointment after the treatment, but on the 4th-20th my guinea pig died waiting for his appointment and now you want to wash your hands saying that he hadn’t eaten for two weeks? If they die in two days, I'll still be crying for my baby. The only thing they care about is money, so think twice before going to this place. Unfortunately, I got carried away by the good comments and should have checked out the bad ones.

Experiencia negativa: My Guinea pig died today on Easter , he never had any problems and I took him to this vet, He was always healthy, I took him in because of his tooth and guess what, they gave me 2 medications for him and after he started taking it he started getting worse and worse and he died, DONT TAKE YOUR PETS HERE, IM CRYING MY POOR BABY all they care about it the money

The vets and vet techs are pro-active in explaining options for any potential treatments/tests for my elderly beast and are never in a rush. AHOC has been a refreshing change in terms of the quality of care after 2 years going to a chain vet clinic and I'm happy to support a local business.

The Pandemic made it rough to start with a dog that has high anxiety at the vet but Dr. Jenny did everything she could to make him and us feel as comfortable as possible-- and it isn't easy. We have loved working with Dr. Jenny and Animal House. Everyone at the front desk, all the techs and especially Dr. Jenny are incredibly responsive, friendly, helpful, considerate and present. We are so grateful for their care of Charlie.

Experiencia fantástica: So glad I found Animal House. I have been going to them for years and they have not let me down. Knowledgeable vets, clean, easy parking, wonderful staff. They are always helpful and answer all of my questions. I adopted rescue cats so I don't know their history. Dr. Jenny takes her time to identify current and potential issues. I would highly recommend.

Experiencia negativa: Took my crested gecko here because he had a weird lump on his back. It was immediately clear that the vet they assigned me knew nothing about crested geckos and didn't do any research ahead of my appointment. She and the vet tech offered wrong and bizarre husbandry suggestions and when my gecko dropped his tail (which I'm not blaming them for, cresties drop them for any old reason) she claimed it would grow back. Crested gecko tails do not grow back. That's basic crested gecko knowledge. Will not return. I wish there were better reptile vets in the city.

Experiencia negativa: Dr. Byron was the most intelligent reptile vet I had ever seen for my 17 year old leopard gecko Harold. Many vets that I saw previously had attempted to sell me on expensive and unnecessary testing/procedures, most of which never resolved the issue at hand and twice almost killed my leo (due to not diagnosing minor infections). Whenever there would be an issue Dr. Byron would diagnose Harold in 20 minutes and resolve the problem at hand for under $300. He saved Harold’s life twice when other vets were left dumbfounded at the issues Harold presented with. He was extremely experienced in the field having studied reptiles all across the world at various zoos and sitting on the executive board for numerous reptile associations. He even studied in Israel where leopard geckos are native to. To my disappointment he has since retired from animal house. My good friend took her leopard gecko to see Dr. Stephanie and had the worst experience imaginable. Not only did I hear this from her personally, but I was on the phone with her when the nurse called Dr. Byron’s experience “outdated” and talked down to my friend. Dr. Stephanie Heniff is a new vet and does not have nearly the same experience as Byron possessed. She can study research papers, lectures, and textbooks but at the end of the day Dr. Byron had more years of experience actually working directly with animals and this comparison was highlighted during my friends terrible appointment. Dr. Stephanie attempted to charge my friend $600 for tests (which ended up being unnecessary; after my friend argued with her, Dr. Stephanie agreed to charge her $250 only for antibiotics without the extra tests), made my friend cry during her appointment, and brushed my friend off when she asked for oral instead of injectable antibiotics. Dr. Byron was always willing to prescribe oral antibiotics (which have always worked for my leopard gecko and my friend’s). She could have easily prescribed an oral antibiotic and if things did not improve my friend could have gone back for a follow up and an injectable antibiotic. There was no reason to try and charge her $600 for fancy tests and gossip about a well respected retired vet who worked at this establishment. Her and I will both be taking our business elsewhere, I suggest you do the same unless you want to be up charged and talked down to.

Also the people that were working in the front were so nice too. I've had some not great experiences at other exotic vets and the vibe of this place was not condescending as were some of the others. Dr Cynthia took time to really listen what I was telling her and was such a nice caring human. I got implants for my ferrets and one (who was not happy about it) was bleeding a bit when I got home. I called to ask if that was normal and Dr Cynthia called me back promptly after looking at the picture I sent and answered all my questions and made me feel at ease. All in all , I feel the level of care and compassion was unbeatable and will bring all 4 of my little ferrets there from now on. Thank you so much to everyone who helped Sweet Pea and Penelope that day and for taking the time to make me feel at ease. I appreciate you all:)

When I got there, the receptionist even offered to put my lizard under a heating lamp! The vet who examined Finally was friendly, kind, and patient. I learned a lot from the vet and did not feel ashamed that my husbandry was wrong. The vet was super nice in the way they presented the correct information to me so that my little guy can have the best environment to thrive in. Will def be coming back

Experiencia fantástica: The staff at Animal House were excellent. I brought our 10 year old dog in when she was sick because our regular vet had no appointments available until the following week. I called late in the day and was able to be seen the next morning. The staff at Animal House were understanding and patient with my very anxious large dog. They were able to do exam, X-rays and blood draw without sedation as we’ve had to do in the past. Very very grateful for their help at a stressful time.

By the time we got a second chance at a different vet they said it was too late and he SHOULD have been cared for at the vet as the signs that we described at the animal house should have prompted further testing.

Experiencia negativa: Been coming here for years and was happy at first. But I had a dog with an urgent need and left a message to be seen for an urgent appointment asap. They told me the soonest they could see my dog who was in pain was over a week. As someone who runs a healthcare office myself, this is a major red flag.

But I do think it is important for pet owners to see all reviews as it is an important part of making a decision for your pet's care, especially exotic pets since there are not many vets out there for them. I was drawn to animal house of chicago because of so many good reviews. I'm so happy for all those clients who have received quality care for their babies from here. However, mine did not. My 4 year old guinea pig , Petey, went in for surgery for a large mass on his shoulder. I still don't know what exactly the mass was but since Dr. Cynthia seemed very gung ho about opening him up to remove the mass and she seemed very confident that she could do the surgery, I put my trust and confidence in her and the rest of staff. My baby passed away "after surgery" is what I was told. I still don't understand how. I know I am partially responsible as I know surgery comes with its risks and I took him there.I keep thinking if I had just made the decision to not put my trust in them, my sweet boy would still be with me. I am so heart broken.. Dr. Cynthia and the staff were very kind and sympathetic enough. They took his footprints for us and gave us a lock of his hair..However I don't think I would return with my other pets. I no longer have confidence in any vet for that matter. And it's not fair that my baby passed away and they still got paid for it. Small pet owners, please research as many vets as possible and asks all the questions before scheduling surgery.

Unfortunately I had to make a really hard decision in putting my sweet little Brownie down due to him being ill and having two stones in his bladder and was afraid he wouldn't make it through surgery due to him also not eating for about 4 days. I appreciate all the staff here. ❤️ They are caring and helped me get through this hard decision. I definitely recommend this place and will definitely come back for their service if I ever have another guinea pig in the future.

Sara, our recent vet tech was great when my 13 year old cat got spicy and had had enough of being at the vet. I also like that they have a cat waiting area and Feliway towels to comfort cats during their visit. Thank you again, AHOC.

The fact that he's had leopard geckos of his own puts us at ease because there's just not a lot of info out there. He's great and everyone at the office is very friendly and happy to help. If you have a reptile of any kind, this is the place to go.

The veterinary staff are very knowledgeable, experienced, and kind. My pets have had multiple small surgeries that were always priced very reasonably. The vets always provided great post op care and called to check in on my animals after procedures. I have a cat who gets extremely stressed at the vet and they did a phenomenal job of being patient with him and helping us find options to get him the care he needed. Overall I would not hesitate to bring your animals here, the staff here have routinely gone above and beyond to make my animals feel safe and comfortable while providing them with great care.

Experiencia fantástica: I've been taking my high-needs rabbit to this vet practice for over a year now. This might not seem like a long time, but my rabbit has had several surgeries that include dental extractions. Unlike other vets, they took x-rays of her teeth during our initial visit and was able to determine the cause of her disdain for hay. It turns out that eating hay is extremely painful for her. I appreciate their thorough exams and cost transparency with what I call "overestimates". Yes, this practice is not inexpensive but if you should expect costlier procedures for your exotic animal. (Let's be reasonable: It's much harder to extract teeth from a small rabbit than a human adult and there are few vets in the area that can do so.) My rabbit has to eat mushy pellets but at least she's no longer in pain and healthy. I strongly recommend Animal House of Chicago as your exotic pet vet.

Experiencia fantástica: About 14 years ago I was impressed by the care and professional attitude when I brought in my nephews bearded lizard who was very sick. His life was saved. Dr. De la Navarre is concise and thorough. Dr.Jenny is compassionate and knowledgeable, Sarah and the rest of the staff are all the best. Who would ever know such a gem was tucked in to a tiny corner of Chicago! I still go there and I love to have Dr Jennie see my dog and cats she is gentle and kind. A great place.
