He is very nervous and anxious so when the nurses and doctors make shots and check up as smooth as possible it is so helpful. Updated 02/20/26: I always come here and called to make an appointment at 9:30 Friday and I get here and they tell me they can’t attend me because I didn’t confirm my appointment. I already called you for the appointment if I needed to cancel I would call you. Wasted time.

Experiencia negativa: This is a POS Establishment with a Gross lack of empathy. After stating that I had moved here and looking for a Primary Vet and that my dog currently needed wound care. I was “hung up on” by an employee by the name of Stormie. Then after calling back and requesting a manager they simply let me know they did not want/need my business cause they are full as a clinic and no longer taking new patients. So do not waste your time with this “caregiver” they are totally booked and no longer need any more business.

Experiencia negativa: At first blush, I thought service was fine. But then had to take my dog back to vet the next day. Found out city vet charged me for test they had no results for. Asked for $130 refund on my $1000+ bill for test they could not find results for, that my regular vet performed again, and City Vet manager Christine told me to pound sand. They charge you extra 30% for weekend visits, then fail to do what they say, and manager tells you to go away even though you are a repeat customer ( we spent $1500 on another dog requiring weekend attention). Bottom line is customer service (Christine) is terrible.

Experiencia positiva: My experience at CityVet was mixed. The staff was polite, but I left concerned about the level of care and follow-up. My dog was diagnosed with severe hip dysplasia and was clearly in pain. It has now been a week, and I still have not received confirmation that the promised specialist referral was sent. In a situation like this, timely communication is very important. Also, I specifically requested a blood test because I was worried about my dog’s health. I was told bloodwork is only recommended for dogs 5 years and older. This was very surprising to me. Blood tests can be useful at any age when there are symptoms or when an owner is concerned. In a stressful situation, especially when a pet’s condition suddenly changes, I would expect the clinic to at least offer the option or explain it more thoroughly instead of dismissing it. Then, I asked more than once (including previous visits) for a proper ear examination with swabs. The examination felt very brief and appeared to be only a quick visual look from the outside, and I was told everything was fine. However, my dog continues to scratch the same ear, so I do not believe this was a complete ear evaluation. I expected an ear cytology/swab to rule out infection or yeast rather than a quick check. Additionally, the visit fee alone was $79, not including other treatments and charges. For that cost, I would expect a more thorough diagnostic approach and more attention to ongoing symptoms. I also want to mention something uncomfortable during visits. Each time my dog urinates or defecates in the clinic, staff immediately point it out. This is a veterinary clinic, not a spa. Animals are stressed and this happens. I have no problem cleaning after my dog if needed, but it should be handled professionally and without making the owner feel awkward. Considering the cost of services, basic cleaning procedures should already be part of clinic operations. I appreciate the kindness of the staff, but I believe communication, diagnostic thoroughness, and client experience need improvement.

Experiencia fantástica: I can not thank Dr. McLaughlin and Nicolette enough for taking such good care of my cat when the ER failed her, they were able to do foreign body Surgery on my girl and send her home same day. Thank you to Dr. Neese as well who made a plan to get her taken care of.

Experiencia negativa: I came back for a refill on a prescription and they made me schedule another exam ($100) then proceeded to prescribe the exact same medication as 2 weeks ago. So if you are expecting to get refills here, don’t, each one will come with a $100 fee because they will make you do another exam for absolutely no reason.

Experiencia negativa: Took my cat there thinking something was wrong with her labor seeing as 3-4 hours had passed without another kit she ended up having it and the next morning when it was clear something was wrong I called to see what we could do described what was happening with the kitten and told them I'd have to talk with my partner about it as we are broke and moving called them back for more details about an hour later and when my partner called about 30 minutes after that we were told that we needed to stop and go elsewhere for a dying kitten my and my partner weren't thinking straight but given hindsight now that the kitten has died it needed formula so I will not be returning with any of my animals as they turned away a dying kitten they could've helped survive but they chose to be rude and antagonistic instead of helping living thing that was in pain dying

Experiencia fantástica: This veterinary clinic is top-notch. Dr. Thomas is a Professional beyond bounds. The technicians are well-versed, courteous, and most important, they care about the health, and welfare of the pups and other pets that they see. This is a gem of the Oak Lawn neighborhood.

The front office staff are kind, helpful, and efficient. If you are looking for a general vet or need an urgent visit I would highly recommend City Vet Oaklawn!

Experiencia fantástica: My husband and I have taken our dog here since we adopted him a year ago. The staff are very and caring and very speedy. The staff clearly love animals. They are pricey, but they are transparent about pricing. We have never had trouble getting an appointment at a convenient time, even on short notice. We get our dog's vaccines and heartworm testing with another (cheaper) vet, but we continue to use CityVet as our dog's primary vet. For reference, a sick visit was $200 total ($60 exam, $70 lab test, $70 prescription), and an annual visit was $250 total ($120 for exam & fecal test, $130 for optional bloodwork).

Experiencia negativa: I was told it was normal for my bunny to be low energy because of the medicine and he passed away not long after. They did treat him pretty well when they saw him, I just wish they’d done more. Also vets usually call the next day to check on the pets, they didn’t. I guess I can’t blame them, I’m sure they’re very busy.

Update.. just received a call from Dr.Neese, telling me to remove my review! No way! Since you want to “ fish for info”, tell me that the vet is no longer with the company, is not my concern. Dr Neese, I don’t care if this is “ hurting your business “.. what do you think it’s doing to my dog?!?! Why do you keep texting me?

Experiencia fantástica: I recently had to say goodbye to my cat of 16 years. This was the first time in my adult life I’ve had to euthanize a pet. I don’t know what I expected, but CityVet handled it with a level of care and dignity that made an otherwise horrible experience easier. I will forever be grateful to the CityVet folks. From the front desk person to the doctor, my pet and I were well taken care of.

Experiencia fantástica: My baby girl was seen for an earache. The vet tech and the vet were very helpful. They looked in her ears and did cytology on the was they removed. She did have bacteria. She was treated with an ear gel after her ears were thoroughly cleaned. I don’t have to struggle with ear drops or medication at home. Overall, I’m very pleased.

Experiencia negativa: We had to put our dog down, and they lost her blanket that we left with them! they kept lying about it and saying the cremation company picked it up when I’m for sure they didn’t. They are reckless with animal belongings. I ZERO OUT OF 10 RECOMMEND!!!!!! Don’t take your pets here! Amanda the manager didn’t help she literally was just saying it got picked up as well and then proceeded to say “we will keep an eye out for it”… how if it got picked up by the cremation company like you said?!?! They are lying because they lost my belongings! Lastly Amanda said the technicians name was Windy and she didn’t feel comfortable giving last names even though as health care professionals you should always be willing to provide last names. DO NOT BRING YOUR PETS HERE TO PUT THEM DOWN BECAUSE THEY ARE RECKLESS AND DONT CARE ABOUT ANIMALS!!!!

Experiencia fantástica: We first saw Dr. Neese in 2020, not long after the lockdown. And even though we didn't get to interact face-to-face (phone only), I could feel how much she cared, taking extra time to answer any and all questions I had. The staff is wonderful as well, from the front desk and customer service to the tech and beyond, I have had nothing but positive experiences with them. We moved to another neighborhood in 2022, and for the sake of convenience, we started going to a vet that is across the street. It was a good experience, but not like Dr. Neese. When my 14 year old pup got a lump on his stomach, I knew I had to go see Dr. Neese because of the depth of trust she built with us. (luckily, the lump is nothing to be concerned about) TBH, when I first went to CityVet, I was hesitant because it is a chain brand, but a neighbor referred me, and they were right. TL;DR - Highly recommend... I will forever choose trust over convenience and continue to go to Dr. Neese and CityVet Oaklawn, even if it is a little bit out of the way.

We are from out of town so needed an urgent care. They saw us immediately and we were out in 45 minutes. Quick and well priced. Lucky we found such a great spot in a pinch!

Experiencia negativa: Do not ever take your dog here! They all misdiagnosed my dog repeatedly. Ruined his health, lied to his insurance about him having a prior condition and damn well nearly killed my Ace! Not once not twice! I haven't sued you for negligence and attempted murder because I just really never want nothing to do with this facility! But I repeat they are a screw up sorry excuse of an establishment who should be ashamed of themselves. Half-baked crooks. Avoid Dr Rachel Neese, that was the doctor that first misdiagnosed Ace and lied on Doctor’s note about Ace’s condition. Then a Dr Amy Shelden stepped in and promised to fix the errors, she ordered a 1000 tests and X-rays we had to pay thousands for and still couldn’t help him till we changed our provider to a private pet hospital. A bunch of clueless doctors. It’s was all a nightmare I wouldn’t wish on my worse enemy.

Im left wondering if she intentionally mumbled so all I heard was $42. Anyways, I paid over $500 for this visit. Had I known it was $442 chest x-ray I would’ve skipped that. It’s ok, I just won’t be returning.

Dr. Murray was amazing as well. I appreciated the time and attention he gave to the issue as I was very worried about my puppy!

As a non-native English speaker, I found the receptionist’s response too fast and unclear. She didn’t confirm the appointment properly, and during our conversation, she hung up the phone without saying goodbye or ensuring everything was clear. As a result, I showed up today at 12:30, believing that was my appointment time, only to be told my appointment was actually at 3:30. This lack of communication meant I had to come to the clinic twice in one day, which was very frustrating and inconvenient. I expected better professionalism and clear communication, especially when it comes to something as important as scheduling appointments. I’m quite unhappy with the service I received and hope the clinic improves in this area to prevent similar issues for others.

Experiencia fantástica: Great customer service when me and my grandfather walked in they immediately acknowledged us with a smile and rubbed my golden doodle named Dior she was so happy and the staff loved her I already feel like this place is home for my dog I’m sad my dog has fleas and they gave me great recommendations and follow up appointments which I loved so they can treat and care for her needs and I love that they have a groom place across the street and it meant so much that they called and told me she did a great job I told them she thought she was at the beauty shop ❤️

Experiencia fantástica: They were able to get us in as a walk in very quickly and then scheduled our dog for a surgery the very next day to remove a cancerous tumor. Pricing was up front and they were able to communicate very clearly regarding follow up and our dogs status.

Experiencia negativa: Been going here for years out of convenience and have always felt something is off about this place. The ethics and prices are weird. They charge you during your visit (which is normal) then on your next visit they say you owe money from your last visit. You’re always questioning what’s going on. Nail trims are either $15, $20, today $35. It’s not consistent and feels made up.

Experiencia fantástica: Everyone here is so fantastic. My dog had an infection on her tail and ended up having to get about 3/4 of an amputated due to necrosis. The staff, especially Dr McLaughlin and Dr. Shelden, who were the two people professional, and above all, caring! They helped calm me down, told me my options were, worked with me when there was an issue regarding payment, were very clear in the aftercare instructions, and made sure that Coco was calm and as comfortable as she could be during the whole scenario. 10/10 I don't want to ever have to go to the vet with my dog again, but if I do, I'm definitely going here first!

Experiencia negativa: Came in today for an exam on dog and to be honest I am Truly disappointed if I’m paying almost $400 To have my dog taken care of the exam could be a lot better and more thorough. Last year I went to the other location on McKinney Avenue and the doctor was fantastic. He really took his time to actually look at My dog And make sure that he was healthy and had everything that he needed and even educated me on some things to be aware and Be a better dog owner. This exam was so quick all she did was do his shots and that’s it… Also, I feel like if I’m paying this much they could trim his nails complementary and not ask for $35 to trim That’s about half the cost of a full service groom, which is ridiculously expensive, especially whenever Almost $400 to have them look at my dog and they don’t even care… The only reason why I made my appointment at the Oaklawn location was because I called on a Saturday and I really Needed some flea prevention medication refilled, and they informed me that he needed an exam before doing so so I just made the next available But I will never be going to this location ever again because of the lack of care. Truly disappointed.

I did not have a prescription, but Dr. Rachel Neese saw Charlie this afternoon for a complementary exam and we were able to get his food! I was so happy with everything from start to finish. They are not lying these ppl treat pets any kind of way, they are very rough with them as well my friend has also had MULTIPLE issue with this clinic, needs to be shut down. Front desk is rude sometimes. Took my dog up here because he was sick, he was sick not DEAD still doing fine. I was told at another clinic that all they needed was a shot. Took the chance of coming here instead they did a bunch of work now my dog is dead !

I was pretty annoyed/frustrated that I paid $22 for a nail trim but they missed one whole foot and a couple nails on each of the other 3 feet, I've never had that happen before and it was pretty surprising. I wasn't able to take more time off work to get him back over so they can finish.

I have had mixed experiences with the doctors, but Dr Sammi (Dr Tittle) specifically is an angel. Long story: my 3yo pup was diagnosed with cancer last year. It was devastating news and Dr Sammi gently walked me through the diagnosis and next steps. I felt like I knew what to expect, and was helped with a referral to the oncology center. She has followed up with us along the way to check in on progress. It’s been so nice to have a doctor who clearly cares for her patients. Our tech visits have been flexible, quick, and easy, too. The staff have been so sweet about my girl. I mean look at how happy she was yesterday after the vet!

Experiencia fantástica: We recently moved to the area after having been with the same vet for nearly 20 years. I was very apprehensive about having to choose a new vet, but City Vet was close by. Very pleasantly surprised by the level of care and compassion for Max, Molly, and Dakota. Every single person there has been great - the front office staff, techs, and doctors. Drs. Neese and Shelden have been instrumental in getting our cat's diabetes under control. Highly recommend!

Experiencia fantástica: I hadn’t been to this location before but I liked it was open and spacious, clean and organized. The care from the tech and veterinarian on staff was great! The after hours visit was extremely reasonable especially for being urgent care. Was happy with the service as well on check in and check out.Oh and they have free coffee and drinks!

Experiencia fantástica: My cat, Felix, has had appointments with both Dr. Amy Shelden and Dr. Ellen Tunnell. I cannot recommend them enough--while their attention to detail is unmatched, what really brings me to tears is how they treat my boy with love and affection. They care--and this to me is priceless. Felix originally went to Banfield Hospital. His aggression was concerning since it was so out of character. I was asked to sedate him prior to appointments, increasing the dosage after every appointment. All of that changed with Dr. Shelden and Dr. Tunnell. He wasn't just a number, they took the time to build a relationship with him and make him comfortable. At this point, I think he may actually enjoy the vet rather than dreading it. He no longer has to be sedated. City Vet has changed our veterinary experience for the better. No words express my gratitude.

Experiencia fantástica: I am not sure exactly how to explain how much I appreciate City Vet. I have been going to City Vet since my dog was just a wee baby (2 years). Originally it was City Vet - Uptown since I was living in Uptown but then moved to Oaklawn and started going to City Vet - Oaklawn. The same care and compassion I was given at City Vet - Uptown I was given at Oaklawn. Thank you guys for taking care of my fur baby when he is sick or just needs a vaccine.

Experiencia negativa: I initially took my cat in for a second opinion for a lump in his stomach. After Dr. Neese reviewed the first tests, they discussed next options, which included a biopsy to find out if it was cancerous. I wanted to wait until after Thanksgiving to make a decision. Dr. Neese also recommended that I do a senior blood panel, which we did. After taking a week to get the results I called to discuss some of the numbers. I never heard back. A couple of weeks later I finally received a call back with someone else who put my mind at ease. I then called back to discuss having the biopsy performed. I called several times and never heard back. Today I called and told them I’m was tired of waiting and would be going elsewhere. They didn’t seem to care. I will not be going back to The City Vet. I’ve used them in the past and seemed to get good service but this was a horrible experience and I won’t be going back. Jeffrey Cox.

Experiencia fantástica: They were so compassionate and caring for my cat when I had to bring him in a couple of weeks ago when he suddenly got sick. Dr. Sheldon was incredibly kind and thoughtful when she explained my options. I ended up having to make the difficult decision to put him to sleep and they worked with me so I was able to come back and be with him when they did it since it was in the middle of my work day. I could tell that Dr. Sheldon truly cares and loves what she does. All of the staff, the vet techs included were just so kind to me.

Experiencia fantástica: We love CityVet. My crazy Frenchie Hendrix is always excited when he gets to see Dr. Shelden; he loves her! She is always on time, sweet, compassionate, and is collaborative with her care. She always involves me in the decision making regarding his care and is always accessible when needed if I have questions. The other Vets are great as well but Dr. Shelden is truly nothing short of AMAZING! The front desk staff are nice and the new urgent care is helpful when we need a same day appointment on the weekends. Definitely recommend!

Experiencia negativa: If I could give a zero I would… Horrible vet. The level of disrespect and lack of accountability on serving me as a paying customer. There were three times they called me while my precious baby was in their care asking how they were doing at home… while my baby wasn’t even with me… they had hidden fees and didn’t communicate about the medicine I ordered to be administered. And they even called me and asked me not to make a bad post…. Trying to bribe me… just horrible. There are several people this has happened to. Just scroll and see for yourself. Multiple staff members especially Amanda … we’re rude and unsympathetic. Never again. Will I ever trust city vet It’s sad and it was a anxiety filled process. And no I will not read your response to this city vet and do not call me. Remove me from my account.

They really do go above and beyond. I have never felt rushed or ignored here and my sweet doggy always gets top notch care. 10/10 would recommend this place to anyone with pets. They’re kind, attentive, detailed, patient, and genuinely love animals.

Experiencia fantástica: Went here for the first time today for an annual visit for my dog, after switching from another vet. Both Hannah and Dr. Tunnell were wonderful and provided excellent care!!! There was a bit of a wait (and lots of barking and howling nearby) once we were in the actual room, so my doggo got a bit anxious, but we managed and everything went okay, overall! The salient reason why we’ll be returning is the expert, compassionate, and thorough care by Dr. Tunnell (and the kind patience of Hannah)!! I felt heard and taken seriously, and Dr. Tunnell patiently answered all of my questions and concerns with expertise and kindness. The annual vaccines/appt. were also much more reasonably priced than the other vet I’d taken her to previously. Great experience overall!!

Experiencia fantástica: They are always so kind and considerate of my cat's attitude while here. They always take the time to answer my worried cat health questions. They recently did an almost full dental on one of my cats and did a great job and followed up several times. Only vet I've used for 20 years. Highly recommended!

Experiencia negativa: Edit* I first left a 1 star review due the horrible miscommunication from the staff. My dog has an as needed medicinal, he rarely takes it. However, they administered the meds to my dog at boarding multiple times without my permission, even when I kept reminding them to call me if he needed it. It happened too much and I was out of the loop, just wanted some answers. I got a call from the doctor after leaving my review and she talked through some things that put me at ease about the (numerous) situations. I always want the best for my three fur babies. I will change this to 2 stars since I appreciate the doctors call.

Experiencia positiva: I've had good experiences with the staff and the clinic itself. They recently decided to stop working with Chewy which would be fine if they had a similar pharmacy, but they don't. They push you to use their online pharmacy that takes WEEKS to ship an item as basic as dog food. The convenience of Chewy will lead me to another vet clinic.

Experiencia fantástica: I cannot express how amazing CityVet Oak Lawn is. I have never experienced a team of vets, techs, and staff who have so much care for animals. Our dog has been seen by Amy Shelden routinely since he was 8 weeks old (he is now over a year old). We have had nothing but exceptional experiences. She makes your experience so personalized to your pet and does a great job keeping your worries at bay. She's wonderful at listening and answering any questions and has never passed judgement on any of our decisions. Unfortunately our dog has had some bad luck and bad run ins, and CityVet and Dr. Shelden have always been there to help when he isn't feeling his best. We always leave thinking about how lucky we are to have such an amazing vet. I highly, highly recommend this CityVet location and Dr. Shelden to anyone wanting the BEST care for their pets.

Experiencia negativa: ROOM HAD FLEAS!! I brought my indoor cat here, who has never seen the outdoors before and was brought in with a carrier, and he came home with fleas. I do not have a dog or any outdoor pets. Now they’ve spread to my other cat and I have to flea bomb my entire place. I asked for a discount on his flea medicine and they refused me twice after I explained that there was no where else he could’ve gotten fleas. Terrible management who doesn’t care about their pet patients and doesn’t clean their rooms!

Experiencia fantástica: We have always had a phenomenal experience at CityVet with our cat and Golden Retriever. Dr. McLaughlin is an incredible veterinarian. She is kind, intelligent, our animals love her and she never upsells. You can tell veterinary medicine is her passion. It will be hard to trust them to anyone but her! Staff has always been so nice as well and facility is well stocked and clean. Highly, highly recommend.

Experiencia fantástica: Very caring and professional staff. I had to bring my dog in for an unexpected treatment. My vet is closed on Saturdays. I was able to walk in and have my dog seen immediately. All the cost were explained to me before applied. The cost was reasonable. I’m switching my dog’s care to this location. I’m a big fan!

Experiencia fantástica: both of my dogs have been sick and I walked in this morning and the entire staff was extremely helpful in getting me an apt later that day. the tech & vet were kind and helpful and hopefully the medication will help their stomachs and test results come back ok.
