1st Pet Veterinary Centers - North Valley: Opiniones
Experiencia negativa: Our elderly dog has been very sick for a couple of days. We called ahead to explain the symptoms and they advised us to bring her in right away. We were sent to a waiting room upon arrival. We were still waiting after 2 hours. No communication, no ETA, no checking in with us or on our dog. We checked with the front desk, after waiting for all of that time, and we were told it would be at least another hour, probably more. We thought it was an emergency to have an elderly dog bleeding when she tries to go to the bathroom, throwing up bile, not eating and dehydrated but it seems this vet was not concerned about her, or about our family. If it wasn’t an emergency and they were too busy to see us, why not recommend we make an appointment? Why not communicate with us? Why tell us to come in right away and say “we’ll be waiting for you?” Why put a sick, elderly, dog through the stress of visiting the vet? I would not recommend or return to this “veterinary clinic.”
I’m so sorry this was your experience. This is not the experience we want for anyone, especially not for a sick senior dog like yours. Waiting that long without updates would be frustrating and stressful for any family.
This is not a typical experience at our hospital, and we take concerns like this very seriously. We are looking into what happened and will be reaching out to you directly.
Experiencia fantástica: This place truly loves and cares for animals ! Not to mention that mentally they made me feel better than I did before I went in! This place gets deeper involved and can relate to your situation, I had them put down my pet rat was like it was a family member and I recently took them a stray cat pretty messed up, yea it cost alot but I spent my last dollar doing the right thing! I was rewarded that day with getting a hundred here and 200 there and realized it added up to the same I spent on this cat ? I'm thinking god
Donna, Thank you for sharing this. It means a lot to us.
Saying goodbye to a pet, even a little rat, is never easy. They are family, and we’re glad you felt supported during that moment. And bringing in an injured stray and choosing to help, even when it wasn’t easy for you financially, says a lot about your heart.
Thank you for caring so deeply for animals and for trusting us to be part of those moments with you.
Experiencia fantástica: My dog, dixie, who was 15 years old started having grand mal seizures at home. 4:30 in the morning and the staff at 1st pet were there to help me help my dog pass. They were so kind and helped me as I was falling apart........ I can never thank them enough. They made it possible for Dixie to be comfortable and stop her seizures so she could pass peacefully I will definitely be getting another dog and looking to them to help me keep it healthy so it will live a long life just like my Dixie did
Connie, I am so sorry about Dixie. What a heartbreaking morning that was for you.
Seeing a dog you love have seizures like that is terrifying, and being there at 4:30 in the morning trying to help her must have felt overwhelming. I’m really grateful our team could be there with you and help Dixie be comfortable so she could pass peacefully.
Thank you for trusting us during such a painful moment. Fifteen years is a beautiful life to share with a dog, and it’s clear how deeply Dixie was loved.
If at any point the grief feels heavy, please know our social work team is here for you. They are available at no cost, and we also offer pet loss support groups if talking with others would help. You’re not alone in this.
Experiencia fantástica: So this was our second time coming here, first was when my 13 year old cat "Toby"short for "October",was dying and had to be euthanized, the staff was AMAZING! They were very supportive and available for any questions we may have had and they didn't rush us do get it done. The most memorable thing is when a few days after we received a condolences card with signatures of the staff, it brought me to tears but in a good way. So fast forward to February 24,2026,my 3 yr old male cat,"Butters", wasn't acting himself, not eating his favorite treat and not able to walk straight and seemed lost). My husband and I knew exactly where to take him, we trusted 1st Pet and today we know we made the right decision. We are on a budget but also didn't want to lose our "Butters". So they gave us an estimate invoice, the vet was very transparent, we asked her what would be the best thing to chose to help our cat, and agreed with her and it wasn't the most expensive thing they suggested on the invoice. They even have payment plans to help you out. The vet stated she's there all night if for any reason he needs to come back or gets worse, thankfully we didn't need to take him back. I just want to say THANK YOU SO MUCH to the night team on 02/24/26!! Our animals mean to world to us, "Butters" is back to his normal self, picking on his brothers and sisters and being the feisty orange cat he was born to be, we hope he lives a long and happy life . Respectfully, Lisa Jacobs P.S. "Butters" says " meow meow"
Meow meow right back at you Butters!!! He is soooooooo cute!
Reading this means more than you know.
We remember how hard it was to say goodbye to Toby, and it truly touches us that the card meant something to you. Those moments stay with us too.
And we are so happy to hear Butters is back to being his feisty orange self. Watching a cat who can’t walk straight or seems lost is terrifying. I’m glad you felt supported, that the estimate was clear, and that you never felt pushed toward something you weren’t comfortable with. That trust matters.
Thank you for coming back to us. Thank you for trusting us again. Give Butters a little extra love from the night team.
Experiencia negativa: I will never use 1st Pet again. 4 years ago, I took my dog in for swollen leg, weeping pus. He was in obvious pain, not eating, not responding, barely lifting his head. Docs noted "guarded/severe cellulitis". They sent him home with a pain injection, and medicine for me to give, that he refused to take as he hid in his crate the whole night, and worsened the next day to chest swelling and bruising. The next day, I wanted to take him to a different ER clinic and asked for his records. 1st Pet said I needed to bring him back in. Worse decision ever. I should have followed my instinct. After him being there for hours, again, they advised to continue with his meds at home. I had to ASK THEM to give him a shot of medicine since he was not responding/able to take by mouth. Thereafter, I was able to give him his meds. He passed 2 days later. I asked for his documents. Blood work showed he had possible sepsis and already displaying necrosis. I understand sepsis is hard to beat, however, considering he was already showing signs of sepsis, they had an opportunity to hospitalize him and should have strongly advocated for hospitalization to prevent further regression. I called a couple days later, and had a good convo with one of the docs, and asked why they didn't hospitalize. I was told although there were signs of sepsis, the meds should have helped for treatment of cellulitis and he may have had a reaction to the meds. For my other pups, I now go to an awesome ER clinic which I drive a bit further for, but love and trust that they would take life-saving measures if needed.
This visit occurred approximately four years ago and does not reflect a recent experience. Our medical team and leadership have evolved since that time, and we continuously review our protocols and communication standards to improve the care we provide.
Experiencia negativa: What doctor prescribes ZANTAC to prevent upset stomach from steroids when a dog has Cancer? Apparently this place. The prescribed Zantac to my dog dying of Cancer, and ZANTAC is proven to cause Cancer! Thanks a lot! You actually helped shorten my dog's life even more. It's great to know, that the doctor you depend on to save your dog's life actually wound up shortening his life. Incompetence? That's an UNDERSTATEMENT! Steer clear of this place.
Thank you for sharing your concern. We are truly sorry for the loss of your dog. We understand how painful and emotional that time can be.
There has been a lot of confusion surrounding Zantac over the past several years. The formulation that was removed from the market in 2020 was due to concerns about a manufacturing impurity that could develop under certain storage conditions. It was not prescribed as a cancer causing medication. Many pets and people safely received ranitidine for years prior to that recall.
In veterinary medicine, stomach protectants are commonly prescribed alongside steroids to reduce the risk of ulcers and gastrointestinal irritation. The intent is always to protect and support the patient, never to cause harm.
We are unable to locate a patient/client under this name in our records. If this review relates to your pet’s care at our hospital, we would truly welcome the opportunity to review the medical record and speak with you directly. Please contact us at [email protected]
so we can better understand your concerns.
Experiencia negativa: If I could leave 0 Stars I would. I never ever leave reviews but we went in because my dog was screaming in agony this morning, I knew going in that her anal glands needed to be expressed and the vet dismissed what I was saying, checked them and said they were completely fine. I proceeded to ask several times “are you sure it’s not the glands needing to be expressed”, them saying no they’re fine. We had already set up our primary vet appointment for later in the day, went in, the anal glands were completely full and needed to be expressed bad. I want my $250 dollars back, they did absolutely nothing for us and dismissed everything I was saying. It’s unacceptable that as an emergency vet they don’t know how to tell something as simple as anal glands needing to be expressed.
Kailyn,
I can hear how upsetting and frustrating this was for you. When your dog is in obvious pain and you feel like your concerns weren’t heard, that’s incredibly hard.
It’s also understandably frustrating to later be told something different. Medicine can sometimes look different exam to exam, but that does not take away how this felt in the moment.
We would truly like the opportunity to review your visit and speak with you directly. Please reach out to us at [email protected]
Your concerns deserve to be taken seriously, and we want to understand exactly what happened.
Experiencia negativa: do not bring your animal here unless you have zero options. sat in a room with my cat for 3 hours with 30 mins or less of interaction with any employee and charged $250 for the appointment fee and another 250 for medications. full lack of communication, no information or value added or gained from this experience. do not recommend under any circumstances
I’m really sorry this felt so frustrating and disappointing. Waiting that long with your cat and feeling like you weren’t getting communication is incredibly stressful.
Because this review is under a profile name we can’t connect to a visit, we aren’t able to see who was involved or what may have happened. We would truly appreciate the opportunity to review the details so we can better understand what happened. This is not the experience we want for our clients, and it is not the standard we hold ourselves to. We want to make sure it does not happen again.
If you’re willing, please reach out to us at [email protected]
with your name, your cat’s name, and the date of your visit. We would sincerely appreciate the opportunity to look into this and follow up with you directly.
Experiencia fantástica: They treated us and our cat with care and respect. They explained the estimate up front so there were no surprises. Most importantly, they took good care of our fur baby! ❤️
James, Thank you for taking a moment to share this. It truly means a lot to know you felt cared for and that everything was explained clearly from the start. That matters.
And we’re so glad your handsome kitty felt safe while he was here. Thank you for trusting us with someone so important to you.
Experiencia fantástica: Dr. Biggs was great with our pup, and his team as well!
Thank you so much for sharing your thoughts here. We’ll be sure Dr. Biggs and his team see your kind words. It means a lot to all of us to know your pup felt cared for and that you did too.
Experiencia fantástica: Our sweet Barry was in distress and was ready to cross over the bridge. I googled 1st Pet Veterinary Centers and glad I did. From the phone call to arrival, each staff member was compassionate, loving, and caring. They take extra measures to love your pet and help you through the process. You are given as much time as you need before euthanasia and after. I loved that they made the room homey and we were able to hold our sweet boy in our arms as he passed away instead of a cold table. I'm still heartbroken but I'm thankful to have found 1st Pet. Thank you for the follow-up call to see how we and Barry's litter mate are doing.
I am so, so sorry about Barry. Saying goodbye to a boy you love that much is just heartbreaking.
I’m really grateful you were able to hold him in your arms and that the room felt warm and peaceful. Those moments matter more than anything, and I’m thankful they felt gentle for you.
Thank you for taking the time to share this, especially while everything still feels so fresh. That means a lot. If you need someone to talk to or a little extra support, our social work team is here for you. We’re still thinking about you and Barry’s litter mate.
Experiencia fantástica: Have had our golden doodle Amanda in several times for tech appointments for treatment of a wound. The team has been great! I wish I had all the names of the techs…some are Ila, Darlene, Natalia, Mary, Myra. Thankfully we will be seeing them less often now that she has healed…..everyone was amazing! The front office too! We are always greeted warmly and taken almost immediately to an exam room. Doctor Larsen is our primary care! We are so thankful for the excellent care at 1st Pet, North!
We are so happy Amanda is doing better. It is so hard on us when our babies are sick. Dr. Larsen is very caring and a great doctor. Dr. Kreissler is a specialist and is great at figuring out what is wrong on difficult cases. Thank you so much for giving us the opportunity to serve your family and take care of Amanda! We are so thankful that you are our client and appreciate you and your family!!!
Experiencia negativa: Took our dog in May 2025 for constipation issues. They showed us x-rays indicating severe back up in the colon. Instead of an enema, we were sent home with pain meds and a stool softener. Took him back 2 days later with still no results. Once again was sent home with no additional help. Two hours after we returned home, he died. Both Vets had an opportunity to save his life and failed. All they wanted was our $1100.00. They killed our little boy.
New response to repeated review.
David, we are truly sorry for the loss of GQ. We previously responded to your review and shared our condolences and concerns at that time. Our hearts remain with you, and we wish you peace as you continue to grieve your loss.
Original response
Dear David,
Thank you for sharing your experience, and please accept our deepest condolences on the loss of your beloved GQ. We understand the pain that comes with losing a cherished companion, especially under such difficult circumstances.
We’re truly sorry that your visit left you feeling unheard or unsupported. After speaking with you and reviewing the case with our medical team, we recognize the importance of making every client feel seen, respected, and fully informed, even during our busiest emergency hours. Your feedback has been shared and taken to heart as part of our continued efforts to improve both communication and care.
While we may not be able to answer every question about GQ’s sudden passing, please know that your concerns were heard with compassion and a sincere desire to learn and improve. GQ was clearly deeply loved, and we grieve with you for the loss of such a special family member.
If it would be helpful to speak with someone about this loss, or to process the emotional weight of the experience, we want to extend an invitation to connect with a member of our veterinary social work team. They are available to offer support and resources during this time of grief.
Please don’t hesitate to reach out to us if there’s anything more we can do.
Experiencia negativa: Only go here if it's an absolute emergency, called to get an urgent care appointment was told they were booked up 3 days out, and to go in as an emergency, when I arrived was the only car in the parking lot, the 2 hours I was there not 1 other patient arrived. Ended up paying over $1k for an emergency visit. Came in because my cat was not eating or using the restroom for 2 days, upon checkout they kept saying if diarrhea keeps up come back, I kept correcting them, he is not using the restroom and was told ooh it's standard forms they use. Also had to sign a form if they do something to cause my cat to need cpr, I agree to pay something like $600 for cpr?
Thank you for sharing your experience. We are unique in that we offer primary care, urgent care, and emergency services. Primary care and urgent care are appointment based so we can provide quality care without overwhelming our team or creating long waits. When those schedules are full and a pet needs to be seen sooner, emergency care is always available so no pet is turned away when care is needed.
Emergency care is staffed and priced differently because it is designed to be ready at any moment. Even when the lobby or parking lot appears quiet, our team may be caring for hospitalized or critical patients behind the scenes.
We are sorry that communication did not meet the experience we strive to provide, and we appreciate you bringing this to our attention. Your feedback will be reviewed with our team so we can continue improving. You absolutely did the right thing by bringing your pet in promptly so they could receive care and get back on the path to feeling better.
If you would like to follow up with us directly, please reach out at [email protected]
And we are glad your baby didn't need CPR.
Experiencia fantástica: They have taken excellent care of my dogs. Im so thankful! My dog has improved so much! He is back to playing! These dogs mean the world to me so having them well taken care of is worth every penny.
Thank you so much for sharing this. It truly means a lot to our team to know your dogs have been so well cared for. We are grateful for your trust and so thankful to be part of their care.
Experiencia fantástica: We are a dog rescue in Wickenburg Az. I recently had the pleasure of visiting 1st Pet, and I am thoroughly impressed by the exceptional care and professionalism exhibited by the entire staff. From the moment I arrived, the reception team was welcoming and efficient, ensuring a smooth check-in process. The veterinarians demonstrated a profound knowledge and compassion for the animals, taking the time to address all my concerns and explain treatment options clearly. The facility is clean and well-maintained, creating a comfortable environment for both pets and their owners. Overall, my experience at 1st Pet was outstanding, and I highly recommend their services to anyone in need of veterinary care.
Thank you so much for taking the time to share this and for the incredible work you do as a rescue. Hearing this from a team that advocates for so many animals truly means a lot to us. We are grateful you trusted us with their care and that our team could support you in a way that felt welcoming, clear, and compassionate. Please know how much we appreciate your recommendation and everything you do for pets in need.
Experiencia negativa: They’re strictly business and don’t care if your animal is dying or not they will absolutely turn your dog away even if he is struggling to breathe. There is a special place in hell for the people that run this place. To think I took my pet in here for cremation a couple months ago. I’m very ashamed about this place’s policy’s.
We take concerns about patient care very seriously. This comment does not describe a specific visit or personal experience, and we are unable to identify the situation being referenced. We provide emergency care around the clock and treat pets based on medical need and established hospital policies. If a pet owner has questions about their own visit, we encourage them to contact us directly so concerns can be reviewed appropriately.
Experiencia fantástica: I have unfortunately been there many times and I have always had a good experience. The staff is always kind. They saved my dogs life once and handled other issues. I hope I never go back but if there is a need I will go there!
Thank you so much for sharing this. We are truly grateful for your trust through some really difficult moments. Our team is always here to help and it means a lot to know you have felt cared for each time. We hope your pets stay happy and healthy, but if you ever need us again we will be here for you.
Experiencia fantástica: Our beloved family cat Barnaby (7yrs old ) was hit by a car and we had to have him put down. It was the worst feeling ever to see your kitty in pain. This vet made all the difference in the world for our family. They have a very fair price and it’s so incredibly kind to provide a real coffin and paw print to take home after. We chose to bury Barnaby ourselves but they would’ve handled for us. The staff was all so kind & caring. The office has a warm cozy feel to it. I appreciate this office so much. We are switching our dogs care ( he’s more like our 4th kid) to this vet because they are so wonderful. I will forever be grateful to this office for the kindness shown on a horrible day.
We are so very sorry for the loss of your sweet Barnaby. Losing a beloved family member so suddenly is heartbreaking, and our whole team felt for you the moment you walked through our doors. Thank you for letting us care for him and for trusting us during such a painful moment.
Your kind words mean more than you know. Our staff truly wanted to give Barnaby the gentleness and dignity he deserved, and we are grateful that the small comforts we offered brought even a little peace to your family. He was clearly so loved.
It touches our hearts that you would choose to bring your dog to us in the future. We will care for him as if he were part of our own family.
Please know our thoughts are with you as you heal. If you or your family ever need extra grief support, our social worker team is here for you at no cost.
Experiencia fantástica: The staff here is absolutely exceptional, from the front desk to the veterinary team. They kept us informed every step of the way and regularly checked in with us during our visit. They even provided snacks and water while we waited, which was such a thoughtful touch. When the team came in to examine our dog, they took the time to get on his level and sit with him, helping him feel comfortable and at ease. They even called us two days later to check on our dog, see how he was doing, and ask if we needed anything. This clinic is incredibly clean, calming, and welcoming. A truly outstanding experience! 10/10!
Thank you for sharing such a wonderful review. Your kind words truly made our day. It means so much to hear that every part of your visit felt caring and thoughtful, from the front desk all the way to the veterinary team. We loved taking a little extra time to help your pup feel safe and settled, and it warms our hearts to know he relaxed with us.
Thank you also for noticing the small touches like snacks and water. We want every family to feel supported while they wait, and your appreciation means the world to our team. The follow up call was our way of letting you know we were still thinking of you and your sweet dog long after you headed home.
We are so grateful you chose 1st Pet. Please give your pup a gentle hug from all of us, and know that our team is always cheering for him.
Experiencia fantástica: We have had 3 emergency episodes that have brought us to 1st Pet. Each visit we have been met with compassion, understanding, and dedicated team members who have helped us navigate emergency needs and get our pups the care they needed. Even after the visits 1st Pet has been great at coordinating and communicating with our primary vet and follow ups to check in how everything is going after the visit.
Thank you for sharing your experience with us. It means so much to know that during each emergency you felt supported and cared for by our team. We work hard to make sure every family feels heard and every pup gets the attention they need, so your kind words truly touch our hearts.
We are also glad the follow up communication and coordination with your primary vet have helped things go smoothly afterward. Please give your pups a hug from all of us, and know we are always here whenever you need us.
Experiencia fantástica: Loved going here! Everyone was so compassionate when our fur baby was sick. It really put us at ease! We'll definitely be returning for anything we need, and recommend it to all our friends! ❤️
Experiencia fantástica: I've been going to 1st Pet ER clinic for emergencies only and recently had to take one of my cats for UTI over a weekend. The staff and vet Dr. were all good, took the time to explain what procedures they would do and gave me an estimate of charges. Post her visit there, they provided me clear instructions on how to take care of her at home, they called me twice to follow up and sent all the records to my own vet. clinic to follow up. Over the years, I've taken my dogs to for emergencies and even for euthanasia and all the Drs. and staff have been caring. I understand that vet care can be expensive, but that is the cost of caring for your fur babies for their life.
Thank you so much for this thoughtful review. It means a lot to our team to hear how supported you have felt over the years, especially through emergencies and the difficult moments of saying goodbye.
We are glad your kitty received the care she needed over the weekend and that the follow up calls and clear instructions helped you feel confident taking her home. It also makes us very happy to work closely with your regular veterinarian so your kitty is cared for every step of the way. We truly see ourselves as part of the same team, all working together to give her the best life possible.
Your understanding about the cost of veterinary care is appreciated more than you know. Our employee owned team is dedicated to giving pets the very best care throughout their lives.
Thank you again for trusting us with your fur babies. We are always here when you need us.
Experiencia fantástica: It happened so quickly. My 8 year old cat, Dragon had to be put down. There was no warning the day before. Yesterday, he got a blockage in his urinary tract. Even if we did surgery it would come back. I didn't cry then because I was in shock. These caring people were awesome to me and treated me and my cat extremely good. They even give a complimentary paw print and lock of hair. They took great care of us. I don't think I could've made it through without their love and care.
We are so incredibly sorry for the loss of your sweet Dragon. What a handsome and special boy. When things happen so suddenly, the shock can be overwhelming, and our hearts truly go out to you. Thank you for trusting us with Dragon during such a painful moment. It means so much to know that our team was able to surround you and him with compassion and care when you needed it most. Please know that Dragon was deeply loved by our team as well. If you ever need additional support or simply someone to reach out to, we are here for you. We have a team of social workers on staff and support groups if you need additional care for yourself. Please reach out to us if you need more support.
Experiencia fantástica: The compassion the vet and vet techs showed us on thanksgiving when we brought our beloved family dog in for an emergency... honestly we can't even begin to explain how grateful we are... our family has been going through such a hard time since moving to the area and the compassion was exactly what we needed in that moment. Thank you from the bottom of my heart...we will never forget any of you.
Thank you so much for sharing your heartfelt message. We are truly sorry for the difficult time your family has been going through, and we are grateful you trusted us with your beloved dog on Thanksgiving. Our team understands how emotional those moments can be, and it means so much to know that the compassion you received brought even a little comfort when you needed it most. Please know our hearts are with you and your family, and we are here for you whenever you need support.
Experiencia fantástica: I unfortunately had to put my cat down and it was terrible of course but the staff here was very kind and gave me plenty of time with her before and after her passing , they didn't rush me and were just the best they could’ve been in a horrible situation. I am really thankful for that. Thank you.
We’re so sorry for the loss of your sweet cat. Saying goodbye is never easy, and it means a lot that you shared your experience with us. Our team truly strives to create a peaceful space for families during such a difficult time. If you ever need additional support, our on-staff social workers are here to help.
Experiencia fantástica: I have never had a bad experience here. Dr Venable is my veterinarian and I would highly recommend her to anyone. I have been bringing my pets to her for years. She is compassionate and keeps the owners in mind as well.
Thank you Brenda for updating your review! You are appreciated and loved by our team. Thank you so much for your recommendation! We are grateful for your support, and Dr. Venable is amazing, kind, compassionate and such an amazing doctor and person!!
Thank you Brenda for sharing your experience here on Google! Dr. Venable is amazing thank you for sharing your recommendation of her. We appreciate you and your continued support over the years. She is very compassionate and is very concerned about owners as much as she is for her patients. Thanks for being a great client!
Experiencia fantástica: Our family loves the entire staff at 1st Pet North Valley! We have a 6 year old Husky (Appa) and a 4 year old Border/Aussie (Sokka) who have both been seen by Dr. Larson since they were ~8 weeks old! Our boys love their whole staff, and are genuinely excited to go to the vet; what a blessing! We can't recommend them enough. Seriously, from basic vaccinations and yearly check ups to neutering and tooth removal surgeries... Their team has always done an amazing job each step of the way, and our pups have loved them through it all.
Thank you so much for sharing this. Appa and Sokka sound like the sweetest boys, and it means the world to our whole North Valley team to know they feel excited and comfortable when they visit. Dr. Larson and everyone here truly enjoy caring for them as they grow. We are grateful for your trust and for the chance to be part of their lives. Thank you again for such a kind review.
Experiencia fantástica: I’d like to give a huge thanks to Dr Biggs and the assistants that help My doggie Brewno and I. My bud had a sick stomach and diarrhea in the middle of the night rather than wait to see if he got better . I called brought him in . They took care of us right away .They were so kind to my boy and very on top of how to handle his needs . This is definitely a great place to bring your pet if you have an emergency situation that can’t wait . Thank you to the staff . We appreciate you .
We're so glad we could help Brewno when he needed us most. It’s always our aim to make sure both pets and their humans feel cared for during those stressful moments. We really appreciate you taking the time to share your experience, and we’ll make sure to pass along your thanks to Dr. Biggs and the team!
Give Brewno some extra pets from us!
Experiencia negativa: This place is a greedy and very money hungry they could care less if your dog lives or dies. My brother took our puppy there 3 days ago because he has parvo this place squeezed 8500 dollars out of my brother and all togethor wanted 15,000. Well my brother drew the line and realized they was doing nothing to help out puppy he is way worse than he was when he went in. Me and my friend have cured atleast 6 of our dogs from parvo and it literally cost maybe 100 dollars for Pedialyte and vitimin C and a IV solution. If they would of not been so worried about getting more money they would of done right by doing it the proven way. So update sense our dog has left their care he is now eating a little and drinking a little.DO NOT USE THIS PLACE IF YOUR PUPPY HAS PARVO. I am so disgusted in supposed professional vets that are suppose to have the dogs best interest at heart i mean our puppy was there 4 maybe 2 days and in those 2 days racked up a 8500 dollar bill. Shame on u people
We’re very sorry to hear about your puppy’s illness. Parvovirus is an extremely serious and often unpredictable disease, and we understand how upsetting and stressful it can be when a pet becomes so sick. Our doctors recommend care plans based on each pet’s specific condition, with the goal of giving them the best possible chance for recovery. We care very much about pets and their health.
We’re glad to hear your puppy is feeling better and hope they continue to recover at home.
Experiencia fantástica: 1st Pet Veterinary Center in North Phoenix is a godsend if you have an issue with your pet and your own vet is closed. They are open 24/7. My dog needed veterinary services on a Sunday and I rushed him to the center for treatment. The entire staff was efficient, professional and understanding of my dog's needs. They gave him excellent care and he recovered quickly. Highly recommend 1st Pet if you are ever in need of veterinary services NOW as I did.
Thank you for sharing your experience! We’re so glad we could be there for you and your pup when you needed help. Our North Phoenix team is dedicated to providing compassionate, around-the-clock care, and it means a lot to know you felt supported and your dog recovered quickly. Give your sweet boy some extra love from all of us!
Experiencia fantástica: A very positive experience for the first time at this vet facility. Compassionate Vets and staff when I needed to put my Lizzie and Hippie cats down in the last week and a half. Horrible time for me and my husband letting go of our fur babies. I highly recommend 1st Pet Veterinary Centers.
We are so sorry for your loss of Lizzie and Hippie. Their pictures are absolutely beautiful, and it is clear how deeply they were loved. Saying goodbye to two precious companions so close together is incredibly difficult, and our hearts go out to you and your husband.
Please know that in addition to the care we provide in the hospital, we also have social workers and grief support services available at no cost. They are here for anyone who may need extra support during this painful time.
Thank you for allowing us to be there with you. We are holding you in our thoughts.
Experiencia negativa: Two stars only because they are nice about it. This isn’t a bad place to go, so don’t get it twisted. They get the job done well enough and rates are affordable—to a point. However, the reason for the review is to warn people of their obvious business model. They will throw a handful of tests at you and down play them a bit….it essentially feels like an overview of the outcomes you can try. Not out of the ordinary, so no big deal. This is however coupled with predatory like sales tactics -using your love against you- that did not sit right with me. When discussing the potential charges, the vet comes over an open line to say “I noticed [pet] lost weight. We should do the blood test.” No mention of the weight difference though I recall the previous weight and it was a 2% change which is typical to chalk up to margin of error or maybe a beige flag (it had been over 6 months from previous weigh)…but nothing that should have made it an 100% fact. After agreeing to a couple tests, that ended up being void because of other factors, they didn’t charge me for it…good for them. However, instead of suggesting a reschedule, they pushed multiple times for me to go to another place I mentioned that might have more cost effective pricing. This was well after I had already mentioned to them that their lower cost option was the same as the alternative so I would just do it with them. All in all, I walked away feeling like they cared more about lining their pockets instead of allowing me time to assess the situation for my pet and finances before submitting to unnecessary tests. Then push me to go somewhere else…why? Because I wasn't an easy sell? Only an assumption after living in capitalism for so long. Again, not a bad practice. However, if you are uncomfortable with pushing back in these circumstances, I do not recommended using them. I will give it to them, they are VERY good at the manipulative up-sell protocols. Sadly, it’s a dark part of their industry, can’t do much about that. We should all have a chance to find the care that focuses on patients over immediate profits. This is not one of those places.
Sierra,
Thank you for taking the time to share your feedback and for trusting us with O’Malley’s care. We’re glad to hear that you found our team kind and our prices reasonable. We understand how important clear communication and trust are when discussing your pet’s health and the options available.
Our doctors’ goal is always to present diagnostic and treatment recommendations that help uncover the cause of a pet’s symptoms so families can make the most informed choices. We truly never want anyone to feel pressured. We do our best to review a range of options including when testing can be postponed, declined, or referred elsewhere so that each family can decide what feels right for them.
We’re sorry if our communication during your visit felt overwhelming or sales-driven. That was never our intention, and we appreciate you bringing this to our attention so we can continue improving how we discuss care and costs with pet parents.
If you’d like to share more details or talk further about your experience, please reach out to our Client Service team at [email protected]. We value the opportunity to listen and make things right.
Wishing O’Malley continued comfort and good health,
The 1st Pet Veterinary Centers Team
Experiencia negativa: They got my dog in fast and the staff is usually great. Unfortunately I had a friend take my dog in for me and they upsold him on a bunch of extra meds that were completely unnecessary. The visit cost triple what I was expecting. I think I will be going somewhere else for my follow-up.
Michael, thank you for sharing your feedback. We’re glad your dog was seen promptly and that your previous visits have been positive. We understand this most recent experience was frustrating. It appears there was a breakdown in communication about the care provided and the importance of the medications your dog received. We’ve asked the doctor to follow up with you directly to help clarify and ensure all of your concerns are addressed. We appreciate you bringing this to our attention and hope your pup is feeling better.
Experiencia fantástica: They took great care of our pup. Got us in quick and were very attentive to our needs.
Thank you for sharing your experience. We’re so glad our team could help your pup and get you seen quickly. As an employee-owned hospital, everyone here takes pride in providing attentive, compassionate care to pets and their families. We’re grateful for your trust and so happy to know your visit went well.
Experiencia fantástica: Great experience considering the circumstances. Vet and techs are friendly, understanding and great with the animals. They don't pressure you to get services and are very honest about what is essential and what you can do without. Everyone including the front desk staff seem happy to be there. Most importantly my dog likes the place. Highly recommend
Thank you so much for your kind words. We’re so glad your visit felt comfortable and honest, and that your dog enjoyed being here. Our entire team truly loves what we do, and because 1st Pet is an employee-owned company, every team member takes extra pride in providing exceptional care and service. We’re grateful for your trust and recommendation.
Experiencia negativa: Save yourself the heartache. We took our 3 yr old frenchie at 10PM. It took the Dr. 5 hours to tell my husband our pup had stones. $2,600 later, kidney damage, and we left without our dog. They moved extremely slow, charged a ton, & didn’t offer helpful or supportive advice. The best person we dealt with was the sweet social worker that helped me girls.
We’re very sorry for your loss and understand how painful this must be for your family. Losing a pet is never easy, and our hearts go out to you. We’re grateful you mentioned our social worker and are glad she was able to offer some comfort during such a difficult time.
Experiencia fantástica: A couple months ago our baby girl Ripply got really really sick and we had to give her a new life with the powers that be. Everyone here at 1st pet was so compassionate and understanding to our situation and worked with us thru the whole process. It was one of the HARDEST days of my life and they all helped me and my other half and my daughter get thru it. And im sorry I dont remember anyone's names here because that day was an awful blur of emotional sadness. Thank you all again from the bottom of our hearts for making a horrible situation a little bit better!
We are so very sorry for the loss of your sweet Ripply. Saying goodbye is never easy, and our hearts go out to you, your family, and your daughter. Thank you for trusting us to be there with you on such a painful day. It means so much to know that our team could provide comfort and compassion when you needed it most. Please remember we have complimentary social work services and grief support available if you ever need extra care during this difficult time. Sending love to your family as you continue to heal.
Experiencia fantástica: This is my third visit to 1st Pet for Urgent Care, and once again the staff was wonderful! I really appreciate that the vet started with lab work and quickly found my dog’s issue, saving me the unnecessary expense of X-rays. Another great experience with compassionate and attentive care.
Thank you for sharing your experience and for trusting us with your pup’s care once again. We’re so glad our team could help quickly identify the issue and save you from unnecessary costs. And thank you for sharing such a cute picture of your sweet baby — it made our day! We look forward to continuing to be here for you both whenever you need us.
Experiencia fantástica: Our little Maltese was sick with liver problems. The wonderful vets and staff at 1st Pet Vet were thorough and supportive in determining the root cause. We have a treatment plan that will provide the best outcome considering the disease. We highly recommend them.
Thank you for sharing your experience with us. We are so glad our team could support you and your sweet Maltese through such a difficult diagnosis. Creating a treatment plan that gives the best possible outcome is always our goal, and we truly appreciate your trust in us. Please give your little one some extra love from all of us at 1st Pet.
Experiencia negativa: I feel a 2 star review is necessary for this clinic and for doctor Thomas Lindgren. I have gone to this clinic for over 6 years and always went with faith and trust that they only hired the best of the best and had the expertise needed to care for my pets. Unfortunately I do not carry that same faith in them anymore. I brought my dog to 1st pet vet on a Saturday night as she was refusing to eat lethargic and urinating constantly. Upon arriving at the clinic I was seen promptly for er services. Went over medical history with a tech and then waited for the doctor. Doctor Lindgren was who was assigned to my pups case. Within 10-15 minutes of talking with him he had a couple suspicions of what could be wrong and we had a plan to run 3 diagnostic tests. Well they ran 1 diagnostic test which was an ultrasound and Dr Lindgren came back in and told me my dog would die within 24 hours if I didn’t have this life saving surgery for her. Never once was this surgery stated to be an exploratory surgery or a diagnostic tool. It was sold to me specifically as the only life saving measure I could pursue. I said yes to the surgery that was $4,000 confident in 1st pet vets doctors and their knowledge and skill. 3 hours into the surgery and I got a call explaining that the surgery actually wasn’t needed at all and asked if while they had her open on the table if I would still like to have her spayed. We moved forward with the spay but were left with more problems for my dog then when I arrived. After the surgery she needed 24 hours of hospitalization for recovery and now has to be closely monitored for 2 weeks to ensure she fully recovers. This also includes medications being given twice a day and keeping her separated from my other dog. While none of this may seem super complex on its own having my dog get put under anesthesia and now be open to the chance of an infection of her incision makes this surgery seem more reckless then helpful considering I still don’t have an answer for what was wrong with her in the first place. The reason for 2 stars and not a 1 star is I do feel like the management handled my concerns and understood my frustration with this. I understand Dr Lindgren is a recently graduated doctor and is early in his career. My main issue with this was the lack of clear and honest communication about what was actually happening and the fact the surgery was more so an exploratory surgery vs a needed life saving surgery. If provided more information for me to make an educated decision or explained clearly that while he was 90% sure what the diagnosis was that the surgery would be the final diagnostic tool used to confirm this I wouldn’t be as bothered. It truly comes across as a young doctor was practicing recklessly and needs more training in communication. I as the dog owner have not spent years going through veterinary school and I placed trust in someone who has to provide me the information in a way that was clear so I could make an educated decision that was best for my dogs health. Dr Lindgren came across as a trustworthy honest doctor who had my dogs best interest in mind I just don’t know if he is experienced enough yet to make complex diagnosis’s on his own or to be trusted with my dogs care in the future. While I thank him for keeping my dog alive during this unnecessary surgery I do hope he learns from this in the future and is more clear and direct with owners of pets about the true risks of the surgery including that it is being used as a diagnostic tool vs assuring an owner of a diagnoses and telling them this surgery is the only way they can save their pets life.
Thank you for sharing your experience with us. I can only imagine how stressful that situation was for you and your pup, and I’m really sorry to hear about the mixed feelings you have after your visit. It’s clear you care deeply about your dog, and that trust is so important.
I’ll make sure to pass your feedback along—we’re always looking to improve and help our team
Experiencia fantástica: We've been to numerous vets and therapists for my older dog and have been repeatedly told one diagnosis with limited hope for improvement. Not only is Buddy much more comfortable at this location from the very moment he walks in the doors, but we are already seeing improvement! We now visit weekly!!
Thank you for sharing Buddy’s story with us. We are so glad to hear he feels comfortable here and that you are already seeing improvements. Our team loves helping pets find relief and enjoy life again, and it means so much to know Buddy is doing better. We look forward to seeing you both each week and continuing to support his progress!
Experiencia fantástica: Nothing but praise for the staff here! They helped our "Big Boy" tuxedo cat Alec cross the Rainbow Bridge recently. They were very helpful in all aspects of this process, being very sympathetic, and showing nothing but love and empathy for us and Alec during this emotional process. Thank You 1st Pet, from the bottom of our hearts!
We are so sorry for the loss of your sweet Alec. Helping beloved companions cross the Rainbow Bridge is one of the hardest things we do, and it means so much to know our team could surround you both with love, empathy, and support. Thank you for trusting us with his care and for sharing your kind words.
Please know that we also offer complimentary grief support services with our social work team, available to anyone who may need extra care during this time. If you ever feel it would help, we are here for you.
Experiencia fantástica: I cannot say enough about this vet. They gave us time and space in a tough time. They called and checked up on us individually. They personalized the urn. I mean, the owner did the ultimate have over. It meant to much on a hard time. This is now my go to vet.
What an amazing photo — thank you so much for sharing it with us. We are deeply touched by your words and so grateful to know our team could bring comfort during such a hard time. It means everything to us that the space, time, follow-up calls, and personalized urn made a difference for you and your family. We are honored to be your go-to veterinary team and will always be here to care for your pets with love and compassion.
Experiencia fantástica: We had the unfortunate incident of our dog getting bit at a park one night, so we brought her here to address the wounds since they are open 24 hours- we were SO impressed with how kind everyone was and how they handled our baby girl’s care! Dr. Lindgren was so thorough and gentle with her. He took the time to really examine her and to give us a detailed explanation of his care plan and why he believed each step to be necessary. We felt comforted and like she was in great hands with every staff member we encountered. They briefed us on the price estimate and explained everything very well. We feel like our girl got wonderful care here and that the staff provided comfort in what was such a stressful and scary scenario, and we truly appreciate it so much.
Thank you for sharing your experience with us. We are so glad we could be there for your girl during such a stressful night. Dr. Lindgren and our team work hard to make sure every pet feels safe and every family feels supported, and it means so much to know you felt that comfort and care. We will be sure to share your kind words with the whole team. We’re wishing your sweet pup a smooth recovery and lots of extra snuggles at home.
Experiencia negativa: My boyfriend and I went to the first pet veterinary on 7th avenue and Union hills. My boyfriend has had previous good visits there but the previous one that we just went to was not too good. We felt as if the two dogs that we had that was attacked by a German Shepherd was not getting the proper care that they needed to have. Our dogs were getting neglected just because of the scratch pay that you have to sign up for in order to pay off any bills or anything in order to go further on the procedure....I found this very frustrating after a traumatic night that we just went though. We paid five hundred dollars just for Dr. Sullivan to say that we needed to have stitches or a draining tool. After five hours and our scratch pay didn't get approval no matter what or how we signed up it never came through. I find it very disappointing that our visit was terrible!! I was just making sure Chaos and baby (our two wonderful pups) got the proper care. With the helping hand of the owner of the German Shepard, we were able to make sure our prescriptions actually got filled
Experiencia fantástica: I'm so grateful for the team who cared for my 9 week old puppy Henna when she got bit by a rattlesnake at 6:30am on a Sunday! The receptionists, the techs, and the doctors were all so kind and caring. They got her triaged, gave her pain meds, and gave her antivenin within an hour of the incident which made a huge difference in her recovery. I was honestly expecting the bill to be higher too!
Thank you for sharing Henna’s story. What a brave little puppy she is. We are so glad you rushed her in quickly and that our team was able to get her pain relief and antivenin right away. Rattlesnake bites are so scary, especially for such a young pup, and it means the world to us that she’s on the road to recovery. We’ll be cheering her on as she heals. Give Henna some extra cuddles from all of us!
Experiencia fantástica: UPDATE 8/24/25: I'm very happy with 1st Pet North Valley and wanted to share some additional comments regarding the care received by my cats, Stanley and Eddie. I don't remember everyone's names who helped us, but grateful thanks to all of you! Dr. Venable recently gave my cat Stanley much-needed dental work that included teeth extraction. She made sure to thoroughly explain during his pre-exam why extractions would be needed, and provided Stanley with excellent care during his surgery and follow up. Dr. Venable reassured me that she would give Stanley special attention when administering his anesthesia (he's a chunky guy) so that everything would go as safely as possible. Stanley is doing well with a speedy recovery, and is very happy! Thank you, Dr. Venable! You're awesome!!! Big thanks, too, to wonderful vet tech Holly who was so helpful and kind during/after Stanley's procedure and when releasing him to go home. She even brought him back to the car inside his carrier. Her follow-up phone call to see how Stanley was doing was very helpful and much appreciated as well. Prior to the tooth extraction, Dr. Venable also needed to determine what was making Stanley vomit and poop outside the litter box. After a thorough exam including taking x-rays, she confirmed that a degenerative issue was causing him pain and discomfort overall. With a prescription of meds, he's like a new cat, much happier and comfortable with no more litter box issues or vomiting. He's finally on the road to good health feeling strong and playful again. Once more, thank you, Dr. Venable and staff! Belated thanks also to Dr. Lunt for his wonderful care of my other cat Eddie who had a nasty bladder infection several months ago . Eddie made a speedy recovery with the excellent care received from Dr. Lunt and staff. My cats and I are very glad you're there for us, 1st Pet! ORIGINAL REVIEW: My sincere thanks to the wonderful staff at 1st Pet for their help with my two very sick cats, Stanley and Zeke. Both cats received excellent emergency care. Stanley is now fully recovered. Sadly though, we lost Zeke despite dedicated efforts to save him. But I am very grateful to Drs. Ash, Lunt and Daigneault, and to the entire group of amazing techs and support staff for their compassionate and skilled care given to both cats throughout. Also, Zeke’s ashes were placed in a beautiful wooden box with a velvet bag, along with a lovely sympathy card individually signed by staffers. They also included his pawprints in ink as requested. It was all so comforting and appreciated. Thank you, 1st Pet family, for helping my cats and certainly, for helping me through a very difficult time. My heartfelt gratitude goes to each and every one of you for all your expertise and kindness.
We're deeply touched by your heartfelt message. It means the world to us to hear that Stanley received excellent care and has fully recovered. Our hearts ache for the loss of Zeke, despite our dedicated efforts. Your words of appreciation for Drs. Ash, Lunt, and Daigneault, as well as our entire team of compassionate and skilled staff, mean more than we can express.
We're grateful for the opportunity to provide comfort during this difficult time, and we're honored to have been able to care for both Stanley and Zeke. It warms our hearts to know that the gestures surrounding Zeke's passing provided some solace.
Thank you for entrusting us with the care of your beloved pets and for allowing us to support you. Our entire 1st Pet family is here for you, and we extend our deepest condolences for your loss.
Experiencia fantástica: I have taken 2 pets to this 1st Pet location and always received the very best care for my dogs. Recently I had to take my new rescued dog to the facility and Dr. Thomas Lindgren was the vet on duty. He was kind, attentive, thorough and gave my dog excellent care.
Thank you for trusting us with your pets and for your kind words. We are so glad to hear that both of your dogs have received excellent care with us. Dr. Lindgren and our team truly care about every patient, and it means a lot to know that his attentiveness and compassion made a difference for your new rescue. We are grateful for your trust and look forward to continuing to support you and your pets.
Experiencia fantástica: I am very particular about how my pet, my family member is treated. I FINALLY found it at 1st Pet. They are not just for emergencies though they excel at that. But the regular visits are so stress free? I am immediately brought back to a room and the team is so caring and focused on my pets needs. Everyone I’ve met, though different all five times have ALL been exceptional with customer care. We are quickly evaluated, tasks are handled at the pace my 12lb schnauzer can accept. We even paid in the room. No waiting up front when others could come in. Like I said stress free! I found them and are keeping them for all my babies needs not just emergencies. Thank you 1st Pet for caring so much. It shows!
Thank you so much for your thoughtful words. We are so glad you and your schnauzer have found a place where visits feel calm and stress free. Our team works hard to create an environment that puts pets and families at ease, so hearing this means a lot. We’re grateful you’ve trusted us for both emergencies and primary care, and we look forward to being here for all of your babies’ needs.
Experiencia fantástica: Losing a beloved pet is one of the hardest experiences a person can go through, but the kindness and compassion shown by the entire team at 1st Pet made all the difference during such a difficult time. From the moment we arrived, every staff member treated my dog Duffy—and me—with genuine care and respect. The doctor took the time to explain everything with patience and empathy, never rushing us, and always making sure we felt supported. It was clear that they weren’t just doing a job—they truly cared.Even in our final moments together, the environment was peaceful, and the staff gave us space while still being present and comforting. Their compassion helped ease the pain of saying goodbye, and I’ll never forget the warmth they showed us. Thank you, 1st pet, for treating my dog Duffy with dignity and love, and for helping me through one of the hardest days of my life. Your kindness will always be remembered.
Mike, we are so very sorry for the loss of your beloved Duffy. Reading your words, it is clear how deeply you loved him and how much he meant to your life. We are grateful we could be there to care for you both in those final moments, and it touches our hearts to know you felt supported, respected, and surrounded by compassion. Duffy was lucky to have you, just as you were lucky to have him, and we hope your memories together bring you comfort in the days ahead. If you ever feel you need extra support as you navigate this grief, please know our complimentary social work services are here for you.
Experiencia fantástica: On March 9th we had to rush our 16 year old dog here at 9 pm at night because she lost consciousness. I ran in screaming and crying and they took her right away and started caring for her right away. They got her stabilized. The next day it was known the best thing for her was to help her go to sleep peacefully. (heart murmur) when the doc called me that morning and we talked about where she was at I made that choice. I told them she was a blanky girl and how when she was in the oxegen tank they were caring for her I was sad because I was not there to wrap her in 7 blankies. When we came the next day the staff was so amazing. They brought her to me in so many blankies. I made a joke she was president of the HOA and they sent me a card after talking about her being that. It's that personal attention they paid to our family that meant alot. I say all that because the personalized care for what she needed and what WE needed were unmatched. My dog was not a dollar sign to them as some of these emergency vets can be. Look emergency vet care is known to be pricey.... It's ok i know that.. But I just wanna feel we all are cared and loved for. They did that. They cared and treated us and her like my lifelong vet does. I know this review is late but I am just missing my dog and so happy how strangers that didn't known us treated us. While I hope to never need your services again, I know where to go of I do. Thank you again. Rip Emma.
Thank you so much for sharing sweet Emma’s story with us. She clearly had a big personality and was deeply loved. We’re so sorry for your loss and so grateful that you trusted us to care for her. Our team still remembers how important her blankies were — and how proud she was to be the "president of the HOA." It means everything to know we could bring a little comfort during such a heartbreaking time. Emma was special, and we were honored to care for her. Sending you lots of love and hugs.
Experiencia negativa: I had been to the 7th Ave location before and the service was pretty good. Tuesday night I took my dog in that was in critical condition and the tech came in and took vitals and they informed me they had 2 other critical patients so it might be awhile. In the 2 hours Isat there the Vet came in maybe twice and asked me how I was. I was never offered any reason why my dog was in his condition. I was aware he probably needed to be euthanized but wanted some information.Everyone was nice but I guess my dog wasn't as important.
First, I am so very sorry for your loss. It is incredibly difficult to let our babies go. We offer complimentary grief support services if you feel that would be helpful. We are here for you.
Thank you for sharing your experience. We’re truly sorry for how things felt during your visit and for the lack of communication at such a critical and emotional moment. You came to us needing answers and support, and it’s clear we fell short in some important ways. That is not the experience we want for any of our clients, especially during such a heartbreaking time.
Your dog mattered deeply. We are taking your feedback seriously and will be following up with our team. Please know our hearts are with you as you grieve.
Experiencia fantástica: From the moment we arrived with our precious Caleb, they took him right away, and Dr. Toncray literally saved his life! We can't thank you enough for all the care and constant updates we received from the entire staff. You did an amazing job, and little Caleb is doing wonderful! Thank you!!! This is a new review for 1st Pet On July 25th I had to rush my sweet Yorkie, Haylee to the emergency because my granddaughter left chocolate on the ground and Haylee got some. I called ahead to let them know and when I got there I was frantic. The entire staff was so wonderful and they took her back to induce vomiting. They were kind and empathetic and took such great care of her. Each room is comfortable, you’re in different Arizona rooms, chairs are comfortable and they provide snacks if you’re going to be there for awhile. I’ll never go anywhere else. It’s a bit of a drive for me, but well worth it. I highly recommend this place. I’ve been going here ever since they saved Caleb’s life. That’s about 7 years. Wonderful people, caring and they always call back to check on my baby! If you have a furbaby emergency, don’t look any further than 1st Pet! Haylee is doing great, btw. Thank you 1st Pet!!!
*edited response to include new current review.
Thank you so much for trusting us with sweet Haylee during such a scary moment. We’re so happy to hear she’s doing great and that our team could help when you needed it most. It truly means the world to us that you’ve continued to come back since we met Caleb all those years ago. Give Haylee some extra love from all of us. We are so grateful for your trust through all these years! We appreciate you!!
Yay! We are so happy to hear he is doing wonderfully! Thanks Tracy for taking the time to share your experience!
Experiencia fantástica: I am so thankful for the staff at 1st Pet! They made a quick diagnosis and got my little baby dog the treatment she needed saving her life! The staff gave her great care and allowed me to visit during her hospitalization. Every time I called to check on my her progress the front desk staff was always cheerful and didn't care how many times I called. One of the Doctors I spoke with had what I thought was a negative attitude but I do realize he was giving me the worst case scenario. I have been to this location several times now with different pets and have received top notch care each time. I'm grateful for all you do! Thank you 1st Pet!
Thanks for letting us care for your pets and sharing your experience with others!
Experiencia fantástica: Had to bring my cat in late at night for an emergency, and I was honestly so stressed out. But the overnight team was incredible. Mercedes was the vet tech who helped us, and she was amazing—calm, compassionate, and super knowledgeable. She kept me updated and reassured the whole time. It made a really scary situation so much easier. So grateful for her and the whole team. Highly recommend if you ever need emergency care for your pet. Back home, safely and healthy.
We’re so glad your pup is home safe and feeling better. Thank you for your kind words about our overnight team. We will be sure to pass your message along to Mercedes. She and the rest of the team will be so touched to hear how much their care meant during such a stressful time. We’re always here when you need us. Give your sweet dog some extra cuddles from all of us at 1st Pet.
Experiencia fantástica: Brought our 17yo pup for end of life check up and service. Courtney, Mary, and Dr. Aimee DeAnda all helped with the transition. Their kindness and professionalism was something that will stay with us forever. Thank you ladies
Thank you for allowing us to be there for your sweet pup during such an emotional time. We are so sorry for your loss. Courtney, Mary, and Dr. DeAnda will be deeply touched by your kind words. It’s our honor to support families with love and compassion through these moments. Your trust means so much to us.
Experiencia negativa: This pet hospital is horrible. Before getting the total estimate when I ask what the point of sedation was, comfort was the response. When I asked if they would sew up any of the holes I was told no. As soon as I say I don't want to pay for sedation that is the time she would close one of the holes up and that sedation was a better option for cleaning. After I made it known I would just take the pills and that's it. I then sat in the room for over 30 minutes waiting for the pills. When I came out tired of waiting there was no one at the front desk. When they showed up they did not hand me my pills even though I had already paid for them and stating that they needed to tell me everything about the pills even though I was upset and just wanted to leave with my injured dog. And even though I had told them 40 minutes prior that my child was home alone I had to wait with no updates and no communication at all from anyone in the staff. I only came here because it was the closest one that was open. Next time I'll drive all the way to Surprise instead of deal with their rude and adequate staff
Thank you for sharing your feedback. We have reviewed Diesel’s visit and want to provide some clarity. Dog bite wounds are high-risk for infection, and sedation is often recommended so we can properly clean and assess the wounds to determine what treatments, such as sutures, may be necessary. This recommendation was based solely on Diesel’s comfort and healing, not cost.
When you chose to take medications only, our team prepared those prescriptions and reviewed instructions, which is standard protocol to ensure your pet’s safety at home. No one was trying to delay your departure; we were focused on making sure Diesel had the best chance of healing.
We understand that emergencies can be stressful, but the verbal abuse directed toward our staff during this visit was uncalled for. Our team provided compassionate care to you and your pet and did their best to get you on your way in a timely manner.
We truly hope Diesel is recovering well.
Experiencia fantástica: 1st Pet Veterinary Center in North Valley Phoenix location treated my family and I with so much compassion and caring. From the moment we entered with our precious Nina in critical condition they immediately took her to provide care. The staff showed so much care and kindness to help us through the very difficult decision to let our girl go. We never had any other experience with this center and we were somehow directed there when trying to find an emergency hospital. They treated us and our Nina with respect and gentleness. We were having a very difficult time grieving our loss. I made a call to the center to ask to have Nina's remains expedited. Within 2 days they called me and told me Nina's remains were ready for us to bring her home. It is very difficult to lose a beloved pet and make the painful decision to let go. We are so grateful to the staff that took care of us. The level of human kindness was truly a gift. Every staff member was lovely. We will not forget. R & D Shaw
Please accept our heartfelt condolences for the loss of your beloved Nina. We know how deeply she was loved and how difficult it is to say goodbye. Our team is honored to have been there for you during such an emotional time and to have cared for Nina with the respect and compassion she deserved. We also want you to know that we have licensed social workers and grief support services available at no cost for our clients who needs extra support during a loss. Thank you for sharing your kind words during such a painful moment — it truly means so much to us. Our thoughts are with you as you remember your sweet girl.
Experiencia negativa: I brought my dog in for vomiting, white foam, and visible distress. X-rays showed gas in his intestines and a possible small intestinal obstruction, according to the doctor. I told her he might have eaten part of a paper plate or plastic. Unfortunately, they couldn’t confirm anything further because their ultrasound technician doesn’t work on weekends. Despite what was found on the X-rays, no pain medication was offered — even after I expressed concern about my dog’s obvious discomfort. When I brought this up to the assistant, Brooke, she was cold, dismissive, and seemed annoyed with my concerns and questions. She also told me that giving my dog oral medication would be the same as feeding him — and that he wasn’t allowed to eat until the follow-up X-rays at 10am the next day. But prior to that conversation, I had read the discharge paperwork, which said I could feed small amounts as long as he stopped vomiting. When I pointed out the contradiction, Brooke returned with revised paperwork. While I appreciated the correction, the communication breakdown, lack of empathy, and overall inconsistencies only added to my stress during an already difficult situation. I’ll admit tensions were high, and the situation became emotionally charged. But I was a worried pet owner trying to get clear, consistent care for my dog, who I love so much — of course I had questions. I left feeling frustrated, dismissed, and unsupported. For over $1,000 in care, I expected more compassion, professionalism, and clear communication. I truly hope this clinic learns to treat pet owners with empathy. I regret not reading the other reviews first — especially the ones describing pets who became worse or died after visiting this place.
We understand how stressful it is when a beloved pet is unwell, and we’re sorry you left feeling unsupported. Compassion and clear communication are extremely important to us, and your feedback is being taken seriously.
We’d like to look into this further, but we have not been able to match this visit to our records. If you’re willing, please reach out to us directly at [email protected] with your name, your pet’s name, and the location visited. We want to ensure your concerns are addressed and that we can continue working to improve the experience for every pet and their person.
Experiencia fantástica: We recently had an endoscopy completed on our sweet older cat. We needed to verify the source of his issues and Dr. Kreissler and staff completed the procedure safely and provided a wealth of information, recommendations, and eventually test results that we needed to start a course of treatment that should help our boy. The staff at 1st Pet North Vally has always been wonderful and helpful for our critters. I can't thank them enough for all that they do.
Thank you so much for your kind words and trust in our team at 1st Pet North Valley. We’re so glad we could help your sweet boy get the answers and care he needed. Dr. Kreissler and the entire staff truly care about every pet like they’re their own, and it means the world to know you felt supported. We’re wishing him comfort and healing on his treatment journey!
Experiencia fantástica: Hi I was out of town and my daughter sat with my Lab who had some form of shoulder neck pain. She was able to get her seen on a moments notice! (she is a vet student at Midwestern) She was seen quickly and the appropriate tests were completed. Fortunately she has recovered without any difficult and received pain management for her neck and shoulder pain. The results of the exam, and follow up call with a vet to provide valley fever test results were prompt ! We thank all of the staff for your dedication to our pets healthcare,. It was especially helpful for the Vet on duty to communicate with me long distance so I could have the information I needed for my dog while I was out of town! It is such a relief to be provided with information on a moment to moment basis. Thanks to all of the staff!
Thank you so much for your kind words! We’re so glad we could be there for your sweet Lab while you were out of town, and your daughter was wonderful to work with. It’s always our goal to keep pet parents informed and supported, no matter where they are. We’re thrilled to hear she’s feeling better and appreciate you trusting us with her care!
Experiencia fantástica: Dr. Lindgren and the kindest vet tech (I think her name is Mars?) helped to save the life of our precious Daisy. We brought her in at just 4 weeks old in bad shape. She had extremely low blood sugar and no one could figure out why. They did everything they could and, thank God, now she is healthy and thriving. Everyone there was so kind and Took great care of our baby girl.
Thank you so much for sharing Daisy’s story with us. We’re so happy to hear she’s healthy and thriving! Dr. Lindgren and Mars will be so touched by your kind words. It means everything to know you felt supported during such a scary time. We loved caring for your sweet girl and are so glad she’s doing well!
Experiencia fantástica: The phenomenal Doctors and Staff at 1st Pet have been incredible, managing three serious puppy emergencies for us over the past two years - especially the rattlesnake bite our little ZuZu endured on her face. We would recommend 1st Pet to everyone.
Thank you so much for your kind words. We’re so glad ZuZu is doing well after everything she’s been through. It’s been our honor to care for her and your family through those emergencies. Sending her some extra love from all of us at 1st Pet!
Experiencia fantástica: I recently had the pleasure of bringing my pets to 1st pet, and I am beyond impressed with the level of care and attention they received. From the moment we walked in, the staff was welcoming, professional, and genuinely caring. A special shout-out to Melanie, one of the veterinary technicians, who went above and beyond to make my pets feel comfortable and safe. She was incredibly kind, knowledgeable, and took the time to explain everything in detail, answering all of my questions with patience and care. The clinic itself is clean, well-organized, and has a warm, friendly atmosphere. I felt confident that my pets were in the best hands possible. I highly recommend 1st pet to anyone looking for top-notch veterinary care. Thank you to the entire team for making this experience so positive!
Thank you so much for your kind words. We’re thrilled to hear that you and your pets had such a positive experience with us. Melanie will be so touched to hear your shout-out—she truly cares about every pet she meets. We’re grateful you trusted us and are so glad we could make you and your pets feel at home. Looking forward to seeing you again when you need us!
Experiencia fantástica: 1. Time. We were helped immediately upon arrival. 2. Friendliness. The entire staff that we dealt with were kind and courteous. 3. Professional. They did a great job patching up our pup. They were kind and professional with our follow-up calls. Overall I would highly recommend this place for anyone in need of an emergency clinic.
Thank you for your thoughtful review. We’re so glad we could be there when your pup needed care. Our team works hard to provide fast, kind, and professional service, and it means a lot to hear that reflected in your experience. Give your pup some extra love from all of us!
Experiencia fantástica: After a horrendous display at bluepearl emergency vet. I can assure anyone looking for Emergency, Scheduled, or Walk in that this place is fantastic. While we did show up at 2 am, The staff was wonderful to speak to. They took great care of my dog. Gave clear instructions for medication, with multiple written copies. They gave clear times and dates on when my girl would be healthier. Overall great in details. I'm so glad we spent the money to make sure Midinght is safe.
Thank you for sharing your experience with us. We’re so glad you and Midnight found your way to our team. Taking care of her was our privilege, and hearing she’s doing better means the world to us. We’re here anytime you need us, day or night. Give her a big hug from all of us.
Experiencia fantástica: My dog was crying in pain and I couldn’t get an appointment with our regular veterinarian. I took her to 1st pet. We were taken back right away and she was triaged. The vet came in with a treatment plan and we moved forward. She was feeling better by that night. I had an excellent experience here and would highly recommend
Thank you so much for sharing your experience. We’re so glad we could be there when your pup needed help, and even more glad she was feeling better that same night. We truly appreciate your kind words and your recommendation.
Experiencia negativa: This place is absolutely horrible. I went in there at 1 o’clock on a Sunday. They basically gave my dog medication to sedate her for nine hours. I picked her up at 9 PM and they sent me home with her and a broken arm after charging me over $400!!!! Heartless!!! Do not go here!!! I took my puppy somewhere else. The next day they took her back immediately gave her x-rays and she is now in a cast healing!!!!!!!!!!
We’re glad to hear your puppy is now receiving follow-up care and we wish her a smooth and full recovery.
Experiencia fantástica: Amazing facility; we had an emergency and they were able to see us right away and do everything they could. Highly recommend this facility. Their staff was super caring and compassionate, making me believe angels do exist on earth!
Thank you so much for your incredibly kind words. We’re so glad we could be there for you during your emergency, and it means the world to know you felt supported and cared for. Your message truly touched our team—you’ve made our day.
Experiencia fantástica: We chose to bring out pet in to this ER due to a bad previous experience elsewhere and were immediately impressed. We were taken back to a suite with our animal and checked in and met by a wonderful Vet Tech. Dr. Duply had an immediate diagnosis based upon her symptoms and indicated she was very critical and wanted to run tests to verify her diagnosis of Addison's disease for our dog. We informed them of her special needs related to strangers, and they were wonderful with her. She ended up staying a week and Dr. Toncray and all the treating doctors were very informative of her progress. We were able to see her while she stayed and spend as much time with her that we needed during her stay. We were so impressed we transferred her care over to their primary care, and will be moving our other animals to their primary care. I would definately recommend as they have a full array of services related to primary care, urgent care, along with ER care.
She is so cute! I am so sorry for the long stay but so happy she is able to be taken care of in primary care now!!
Thank you so much for taking the time to share her story here on Google!!
Here's to many happy healthy visits ahead!
Experiencia fantástica: I have now had two visits. Everyone is very polite, compassionate, knowledgeable They treat your dog like it was there own and listen to all your concerns about your visit It is great to know there is a place you can take your animal and get in when needed. Their cost is reasonable and they give a senior discount They also call back and do a check up on how your pet is doing. I am very happy there is a place you can take your pet that is open 24/7
Thank you so much for your kind words and for sharing that adorable photo. It means so much to know you felt listened to and supported. We truly love every pet like our own. We are always here for you, day or night, and we are so happy to be a place you can count on.
Experiencia fantástica: Our family has used 1stPet several times. They’re always helpful and have a ton of resources. Most recently, my cat Louie has received great care and detailed evaluations that helped us discover and correct potentially serious issues. The staff is friendly and Dr. Gassman and Dr. Toncray are tremendous!
Thank you so much for your kind words and continued trust in our team. It means the world to us to be part of Louie’s care and to know we have been there for your family through the years. Dr. Gassman and Dr. Toncray will be so touched by your message. We are grateful to walk alongside you in keeping Louie and all your pets healthy and happy, and we are always here when you need us.
Experiencia fantástica: We took our girl Grace in on Mother’s Day as she was not feeling well. We’re received the best care for her. After determining that she had a bleeding mass in her chest we made the decision to put her down as she would not survive a surgery. The loving and compassionate care we received was unbelievable and full of compassion for us and Grace. We were able to pick up her ashes in just a couple of days and we’re so happy to have her home. We would recommend 1st Pet Veterinary center as their service as it is the very best care you can get.
My heart hurts for you and your loss of Grace. So very sorry. That must have been such a hard day for you! If you ever need someone to talk to about her loss we have social workers on staff that can help you through. I am grateful our team made it as easy as possible for you! Thank you for your kind words.
Experiencia fantástica: My first experience with 1st Pet was for a tragic situation where I had to put my 14 year-old baby to sleep. I cannot tell you how amazing every vet tech and vet was with helping me through that tough moment with more kindness than I've ever received at a vet clinic!! I have never experienced such a wonderful vet center in my life and I have always grown up with pets. Because they are so terrific, they are my permanent vet and I've already taken my two new baby kitties in for treatment.
Oh no! I am so sorry that you had to put your baby to sleep! that is such a hard thing to do. We are so grateful to have you as part of our 1st Pet family. Just sorry you found us because of such a tragedy. Thank you for your kind words and we look forward to an amazing relationship with you and all your fur kids moving forward!
Experiencia fantástica: Would give more if I could. I had to bring Baylee as he tested positive for parvo. Everyone was so caring and explained very well. They keep you informed every minute. They even quote a little high but when I got to pick up Baylee it ended cheaper. They care very much and don't do things they don't need to do. I appericate you my baby got to come home.
Thank you so much for your kind words. We're so glad Baylee is back home and feeling better! Our team truly cares about every patient and we're honored you trusted us during such a scary time. Give your sweet boy some extra snuggles from all of us!
Experiencia fantástica: Love this Vet practice. I have a cat and cat owners know how important it is to find a Vet that can take the right approach with their feline. My cat is still stressed, but much less with this Cat certified practice. I did a lot of research before selecting this practice and wanted one that was going to treat my cat well and knew how to deal with her. She recently had her annual physical and got a vaccine along with a blood draw. NOT one peek from my cat for either procedure. Very happy with that outcome.
Thank you so much for your thoughtful words! We know how sensitive our feline friends can be, and we’re so glad your kitty felt more at ease with us. Our team is proud to be Cat Friendly Certified, and we’re thrilled to hear your visit went smoothly—especially with no peeps during the exam!
Experiencia fantástica: The entire staff at 1st Pet provided service beyond our expectations. Not only did they give our puppy boy, Harlow, the needed medical attention, they gave him the love and care that helped him recover quickly considering the horrific injuries he incurred. We thank the entire staff, especially Dr. Sidaway and his technicians, Ashley and Natalia. We highly recommend 1st Pet to anyone needing emergency or primary care for their pet. Ruben & Billie
Thank you so much for your kind words. We’re so happy to hear that Harlow is healing well—it was truly our honor to care for him. Dr. Sidaway, Ashley, Natalia, and the entire team send their love and are grateful for your trust. Give your brave boy some extra snuggles from all of us!
Experiencia negativa: I brought my dog in today because he was displaying potential symptoms of a stroke. For a $250 emergency check up you’d think that more would be done besides taking temperature and deciding nothing’s wrong after eyeballing my dog’s behavior for a couple minutes. Also don’t appreciate the blond/grey front desk lady who checked us out in the treatment room rudely closing the door on us because we didn’t move fast enough for her. Last year I came in with a choking puppy and the vet was very rude and acted inconvenienced. It’s $300 to get blood work done here, I understand the price is the price but at least be hospitable if you’re charging high end prices.
We’re very sorry to hear that your experience didn’t meet your expectations. We know how stressful it is when a beloved pet is showing concerning symptoms, and we always want our clients to feel supported and cared for throughout their visit. Our emergency exams are focused on assessing immediate, critical issues based on the clinical signs a pet is showing at the time.
We’re also very sorry if you felt rushed or uncomfortable at any point during your visit—this is not the experience we want for any client. We appreciate your feedback and would welcome the opportunity to learn more. If you’re willing, please reach out to us at [email protected] so we can better understand and address your concerns.
Experiencia fantástica: My dog was having a funny limp on his front paw, and I couldn't find the root cause of it. The techs, assistants, vets and everyone involved was really friendly and helpful since the moment I entered through the door. We waited in one of the rooms for a little while, and then they checked him and quickly found out the issue was a bee's stinger trapped between his toes. All removed and patched up, my pup is doing great now.
Hi Lucian,
Thank you so much for your wonderful review! We're glad to hear that our team could quickly diagnose your dog's issue and that he's feeling better now. It's always our goal to provide friendly and efficient care. We appreciate your kind words and hope to see you and your pup again in the future!
Experiencia fantástica: Had to take my 6 month old puppy at 2 am today because she was crying and in pain from an infection on the area she got spayed. Price was pretty fair. They treated her asap. Very friendly and helpful. This isn't my main pet hospital but I do recommend this place. Especially if you have an emergency. Very beautiful place. Very comfortable. Very easy going
Thank you so much for trusting us with your sweet pup during such a stressful time. We’re so glad she’s feeling better and that you felt cared for and supported. We’re always here for you—any time, day or night.
Experiencia fantástica: I took my dog here at about 7:30 at night because they were recommended to me by my vets office for emergencies. We were seen relatively quick. Dr. Vincent walked me through everything and after the surgery left two messages letting me know how my dog was doing. When I called and spoke with her, she was quickly available. I was also able to go in and visit my dog after surgery and the staff was able to answer the questions I had.
Thank you so much for your kind words. We’re so glad Dr. Vincent and our team could be there for you and your pup during such a stressful time. It means a lot to hear that you felt informed and supported throughout the process. We hope your sweet dog is continuing to heal and feel better every day!
Experiencia negativa: These guys are hacks. Spent thousands and 5 hours, even though I was the first one there. My girl had kidney problems. Was not diagnosed or treated. The vet I took her too after these hacks, told me he could have saved her. Think about it they never go against each other. The unwritten code. They will advise all these tests and then not treat for the results. Too bad my lil girl suffered until I found a REAL vet.
Experiencia fantástica: I am so so grateful for the team at 1st Pet Vet. We visit them every other week for cold laser & acupuncture with Lisa Hillery & Dr. Venable. Lisa has been our rehab/physical therapy partner for our 12-year old Goldendoodle, Sawyer, for more than a year - and when she started working at 1st Pet, we decided to follow her there for the addition of cold laser & acupuncture. Our pup has mobility issues & lar par, and the team at 1st Pet is always so kind and flexible. The space is calm. We are taken back to a room immediately, so we can relax and get ready for our session. We are so grateful for the care & love they hold for their patients (animal & human ) and for their willingness to take a more natural approach to healing. Thanks to them, we’re back to our walks & better managing Sawyer’s breathing. Thanks to Sarah for always being a bright & shining light when we walk in, too.
Thanks for sharing these great pictures!! AND thank you so much for your kind words and for letting us be a part of Sawyer’s journey. We all adore him, and it means the world to see him feeling better and enjoying his walks again. Lisa, Dr. Venable, and the team are truly dedicated to his comfort and healing, and we’re so glad the sessions have made a difference. Give Sawyer some extra love from all of us—we’ll see you both soon!
Experiencia fantástica: We first visited here about 3 years ago as an emergency. The doctors and staff were so amazing that we've kept our pup as a patient on the general practice side. He is fearful, disabled and they have been so patient with him. They are aways welcoming, though he is not the easiest to deal with strangers. Yesterday he had a dental cleaning with Dr Venable requiring an extraction that I have been so nervous for. They kept in contact the entire time making me feel at ease. The prices are a little more than I've paid at other practices, but worth the piece of mind to know our pup is in good hands.
First, thank you for sharing such a cute picture!! This is such a wonderful story—thank you for sharing! We’re so glad our team has been able to support your pup over the years, especially with his unique needs. We know how nerve-wracking procedures like dental cleanings can be, and we’re happy that Dr. Venable and our team helped put your mind at ease. Your trust means the world to us, and we’re honored to be a part of your pup’s care. Give him some extra love from us!
Experiencia fantástica: 1ST Pet Veterinary Center, North 7th Ave., Phoenix, AZ has cared for our creatures for nearly 12 years. They've done so with compassion, true interest, and kindness. We take our four-legged family there with confidence that their care will be the very best. We've been fortunate to have had the skilled care of Dr. Jessica Venable for the past 5+ years and can't speak highly enough about her. She's an amazing vet! Every staff person, both front office and back clinical, have been exceptional, too! Lucky us, to call this OUR clinic for our special family members.
What a beautiful testament to the care and dedication of our team! Thank you for trusting us with your beloved pets for so many years. It means the world to us to be part of their lives and to provide the compassionate, expert care they deserve. Dr. Venable and our entire team will be touched by your kind words. We’re truly honored to be your clinic!
Experiencia fantástica: The staff and the Veternarian were absoluley amazing and Kind. I was talked through Titans procedure, and never felt unecessary things were ordered or added. I would recommend, If you find yourself in need of a place to go for a emergency or any of your pet needs, this is the place.
Hi Lisa,
Thank you so much for your kind words! We're so glad to hear that you found our staff and veterinarian to be amazing and kind. Providing clear communication and quality care for pets is our top priority, and it's wonderful to know you felt supported during Titan's procedure. Your recommendation means a lot to us, and we look forward to being there for you and your pets whenever you need us.
Best wishes,
The 1st Pet Veterinary Centers - North Valley Team
Experiencia negativa: AVOID AT ALL COSTS. This was not a good experience. I brought my dog in (granted it was a Sunday) at 1130 am and did not get seen until almost 12 hours later. I read some of the reviews about how the clinic is money motivated, and I cant stress that enough. It was very clear to me that they were far more eager to talk about billing then they were animal care. I really cant stress that enough. The Dr. literally looked at my dog for a minute and charged me almost $500. The assistants tried twice to sedate my GSD and failed both times. How? We had 5 separate conversations about money. Their whole approach and bedside manners were off and did not leave me feeling good. I will cut them some slack for it being a Sunday but they advertise 24 hour emergency services. 12 friggen hours? Come on. And I am fairly certain my dog wasn't even given any water. He had on a muzzle and a cone so I have no idea how he could have even drank. My advice is go somewhere else until they have new management or better training. I will not be going back. The facility was nice and clean though. Surprised I didn't get charged a cleaning fee. Seriously.
Thank you for taking the time to share your experience. I sincerely apologize for the long wait and for any frustrations you faced during your visit. I understand how difficult it is to wait during an emergency, and we appreciate your patience during what was clearly a stressful day for you and your dog.
Emergency cases are prioritized based on medical urgency, which can sometimes lead to extended wait times, especially on busy days. Our goal is always to provide the best care possible while ensuring that the most critical patients receive immediate attention.
Regarding treatment and billing, we strive to be transparent about costs and necessary procedures so pet owners can make informed decisions about their pet’s care. Sedation can sometimes be challenging, especially for certain breeds, but our team always prioritizes safety and comfort.
We truly appreciate your feedback and will continue working to improve both our processes and communication. If you’d like to discuss your experience further, please reach out to us at [email protected]. We would be happy to go over any concerns with you directly.
We wish you and your dog all the best moving forward.
Experiencia fantástica: Another positive experience with the very professional, friendly, and helpful staff of 1st Pet! They truly care about me and my dogs; they are attentive, thorough, and kind. I love their "fear free" approach. I am so glad I made the switch to Dr. Roice and the staff of 1st Pet!
Thank you for sharing your positive experience with us! We’re delighted to hear that you appreciate our professional, friendly, and helpful staff. At 1st Pet, we truly care about you and your dogs and are dedicated to providing attentive, thorough, and kind care. We're also thrilled that you love our "fear free" approach and our team. Your kind words mean a lot to us!
Experiencia negativa: My cat had white gums and some of yall might know this could mean the cats in critical condition, after finding that out the nurses and doctors were still rough with her knowing she was probably not going to make it… they sent us to a hospital called Veg or vet emergency group on camelback and 22nd street, but they made us pay 250$ just for seeing my cat and handling her roughly and wouldnt let us leave the room until we paid. At Veg you get to see your animals they dont take them away and secretly treat them like crap or like a bug like firstpet does. Veg sets up amazing payment plans as well and the nurses actually get upset or a little frustrated when they think they mightve hurt the animal. We all know iv shots arent present and the nurses were showing care and being slow. At veg they are people and pet oriented they show a lot of empathy and would probably let you stay over night to be with your pet before they go. 1st pet is the worst animal hospital ive ever experienced they clearly do not care for pets that vet is for the money as they charged 250$ just to tell us they cant help us because we dont have a million bucks on hand.. DONT GO TO FIRSTPET!
We’re so sorry that Hazel was in such a critical state, and we know how heartbreaking it is to face such difficult moments. Our team is dedicated to providing the best possible care with compassion while being upfront about medical options and costs. Based on our records, we discussed Hazel’s condition in detail and recommended immediate stabilization and diagnostics. We completely understand that unexpected expenses can be overwhelming, which is why we offer resources like CareCredit to help pet owners manage costs. When that isn’t an option, we do our best to guide families toward hospitals that may offer additional payment plans.
In Hazel’s case, our doctor performed an exam to assess her condition and discuss possible treatments. Like any medical facility, there is a charge for an exam, as it covers the time, expertise, and care provided by our veterinarians. We know these situations are stressful, and our team took extra steps to help find a hospital that could provide other financial options.
We truly wish we could help every pet regardless of financial circumstances, but we also have to operate in a way that ensures we can continue caring for all pets in need. Our priority is always the well-being of our patients, and we approach every case with deep compassion and understanding. If there’s anything we can clarify or discuss further, we’re happy to talk with you directly.
Experiencia fantástica: We took our dog in since she ate some iron and we had concerns about toxicity. 1st Pet got us in contact with Poison control and we talked to them and paid the $95 fee for that. Poison control then talked to their vets, and both agreed a full exam wasn’t necessary and that unless we were worried about GI upset, we could go free of charge. So thankful we went and just had the most lovely experience. Will definitely choose 1st pet again for any future concerns. Thank you!!
We're so glad we could help and that everything turned out okay for your pup! Iron toxicity can be scary, and we're happy we could work with Poison Control to give you peace of mind. Your pet’s health and well-being is our top priority, and sometimes that means simply providing reassurance rather than unnecessary treatments. Thank you for trusting us—we’re always here if you ever need us again!
Experiencia fantástica: Thank you for helping my friend late at night he was in a lot of pain he was ready to go thank you to the kind staff thank you to the Dr who helped my Simon boy thank you for your professionalism and your honesty about his condition and for making sure his passing was peaceful. And thank you for your Kind words. May Allah the almighty reward you for your work and for your kindness. Things about Simon. He loved honey roasted peanuts. He loved to roll in dirt when he was younger. He loved belly rubs He loved to sleep on my head He would greet me every time I came home. He once got out on the 4th of July when I was 12 and I spent hours looking for him and he came back on his own. We knew each other for 17 years and I am grateful for that.
We are so deeply sorry for your loss. Simon was clearly a special soul, and the bond you shared over 17 years is truly beautiful. Thank you for trusting us to care for him in his final moments. It means so much to hear your kind words about our team. May his memory bring you comfort, and may all the love he gave you live on in your heart. Our thoughts are with you.
Thanks for sharing his beautiful picture and letting us all know him better through your tender words.
Experiencia fantástica: Today, Kitty Kaat passed on. A pic from his better days. He passed away, taking his last breath in my arms while we sat in a peaceful room. I will bring home his remains in a few days. They took care of us with Dignity and Respect.
We are so very sorry for your loss. Saying goodbye is never easy, but we’re honored to have been there for you and Kitty Kaat in his final moments. Wishing you comfort and peace as you remember him. He is beautiful! thanks for sharing his picture!!
Experiencia fantástica: In a sheer panic, we came to 1st Pet as emergency patients, our beloved 16-yo Chihuahua's symptoms included: Head tilt Falling Circling Leaning to one side Jerking eye movements Staggering Disorientation Reluctance to stand or walk Nausea and vomiting Standing with legs spread wide Unwillingness to eat or drink Rapid eye movement while awake Choosing to sleep on hard surfaces We thought she'd had a stroke, and was possibly dieing. We were greeted lovingly, brought back to a pleasant private room where we were met by a gentle nurse who took all the information, including our dog's weight, heart rate, temperature, etc. Then we met the kind veterinarian who let us know our dog had all the symptoms of Idiopathic vestibular disease, AKA old dog disease, or vertigo for humans. We were prescribed a canine anti nausea med as well as over the counter one. We were told it should resolve soon, if not it could be something more serious, like a tumor. The next day our precious dog was better by a bit, not much but still better. The following day showed more improvement - and we received a follow up call from the vet asking how she was. Because she was no longer exhibiting the majority of the symptoms except for the head tilt and lack of appetite the vet said we're on the road to recovery. Later that day our doggy ate with enthusiasm after 3 days of fasting - what a relief! Because of their knowledge, kindness, thoroughness & professionalism we highly rate 1st pet veterinary hospital/practice and give them 5 stars! Please meet our precious Sasha Wu. All the best, Sasha's mom, Allison

Experiencia fantástica: Hello, I want to thank the 1st pet team on behalf of my family and I. There comes a time where our furry companions say not goodbye but, see you later. It was time for our Daisy to move on after 16 years of companionship. Thank you guys for making this as smooth of a process as possible. Thank you again for taking good care us. Sincerely, Marco M.
Marco, we are truly honored to have been there for you and Daisy during such a difficult moment. Sixteen years of companionship is an incredible gift, and we know how much she was loved. Thank you for allowing us to be part of her journey and for your kind words. Our hearts are with you and your family.
And this picture is one of the cutest pictures I have ever seen!
Experiencia fantástica: I came to first pet for my sweet orange cat, Kurama. The staff was so incredibly caring and welcoming, including Sarah at the front desk who did a lot to help us through this situation, and Dr. Jackson and Dr. Dupily who both were so kind. They worked with our budget as much as possible and were very helpful and understanding of the circumstances. They showed compassion and professionalism at all times. I would definitely recommend their services!
Thank you for your kind words and for trusting us with Kurama’s care. We’re so glad that Sarah, Dr. Jackson, and Dr. Dupily were able to support you through this situation with compassion and understanding. Your recommendation means the world to us!
Experiencia negativa: 1100$ for a deposit for a treatment plan with no payment plan? We paid 200 something $ for an appointment just for them to help up with absolutely nothing - I’m sorry but 1100$ for a deposit to get X-rays and scans and tests shouldn’t cost this much she said it would be 2-4’000$ insane - I don’t really recommend coming here my mother also did inform me when she took our childhood dog here they said a rare surgery to save his life would cost about $4000 but when they ended up putting the dog down they asked to use his body for training for the surgery - absolutely disgusting - Please do not come here I genuinely do not recommend overly expensive - and just inhumane
We understand that unexpected veterinary expenses can be overwhelming, and we’re truly sorry that your experience left you feeling this way. Our goal is always to provide compassionate, high-quality care while being transparent about costs. Diagnostic tests and treatments vary based on the pet’s condition, and we do our best to offer options. If you’d like to discuss your experience further, we’d be happy to listen.
Experiencia fantástica: I cannot thank 1st Pet enough for their incredible staff. I took my senior dog, Barley, in distress last night, and the staff took such amazing care of us both. He did pass peacefully, but I will be forever grateful to everyone who was there last night. The kindness and empathy I was shown in my scariest moments as a Dog mom will always be remembered.
We're so sorry for your loss of sweet Barley. Thank you for your kind words during such a difficult time. It means so much to our team to know we could provide comfort and care for you and Barley in those final moments. Please know we’re keeping you in our thoughts.
Experiencia fantástica: Last night when I got home I Had a panic attack when I saw that my 1 year old puppy got into Tylenol. Naturally, I googled if it’s harmful for dogs, because I’ve never experienced this before and found out that it can cause liver damage and a few other things. Because of this, I brought her in immediately while I was on the line with poison control so they could assess and then talk to the vet on the best form of treatment and they took really good care of me, but they also took really good care of my girl. They were very communicative and respectful. They have a system that allows you to text which is just their phone number and your dog is associated to you. They’re able to send photos so that was really relieving because my dog had to stay overnight and it was the most anxiety felt night that I had but they were able to still send me updates if I woke up and asked questions on how she was doing. The level of care respect and again communication in an emergency is truly appreciated. I hope I don’t have another emergency, but if I do, I know where to go.
Kelly, thank you so much for sharing your experience with us. We know how terrifying it can be when something unexpected like this happens, and we're so glad you trusted us to care for your sweet pup during such a scary time. Our team understands how stressful overnight stays can be, and we’re happy to hear that our updates and communication helped ease your anxiety. We hope your girl is feeling much better now and know that we're always here if you ever need us again (though we certainly hope for no more emergencies!).
Experiencia fantástica: The staff at this clinic are so kind and reassuring. They really have both the pet and pet parents best interest at heart. I had a great experience when I took my cat in for an emergency months ago and then again tonight when I came in last minute to get help with my dog's new feeding tube. I hardly ever review anywhere but the staff here went above and beyond to help and they deserve the highest rating!
Thank you so much for your heartfelt review and for sharing your experiences with us! It means even more knowing that you don’t usually leave reviews—your kind words and trust truly touch our hearts. We’re honored to have been there for both your cat and your dog during these critical moments, and we’re so glad we could help. Our team is dedicated to providing compassionate care and ensuring both pets and their families feel supported. Thank you for letting us be part of your pets’ care journey!
