Experiencia negativa: I don't recommend this vet because they were overcharge you and under care for your pet. My dog is in need of antibiotics but they failed to prescribe any. I would rather drive the extra 20 minutes to see a vet that will actually care for my dogs fully and aren't afraid to examine them in front of me! Waste of $450 my dog still needs care! Reply to Jess who just speaks of lies and more lies saying she tried to address concerns! Saying that we worked quite a bit no she was trying to get me to talk to her on the phone so that nothing was on the record about their liability. She couldn't even read the email and see that the e-mail staff even stated that the treatment is antibiotics and diet change however they refused to give antibiotics. Don't waste your money. Don't go to a place where you can't trust the staff. Also, the place is really dirty and just smells like urine

Experiencia fantástica: We have been there a couple of times and have found them very friendly and efficient. They discovered medical conditions the previous vet didn't. We appreciated that they discussed the pros and cons for each option but didn't make us feel like we had to go the most expensive route.

Experiencia fantástica: Love Dr Ferguson and her attentiveness to my almost 13 year old senior dog. Gives great recommendations for care and always settles my nerves when I visit. Moved all the way to NE Portland recently and absolutely refuse to switch vets because of how highly I recommend this team. If you want high quality care for your fur baby, this is the place.

Experiencia fantástica: My 2 year old male cat suffers from bladder issues. I called as a new patient on Monday and was able to get an appointment the next day. Dr. Ferguson was AMAZING!! I was unable to be there so my husband had me on speaker phone. Dr. Ferguson was super accommodating and answered all of our questions. My husband loved the vibe in the office and felt like the staff truly cared. We will be switching our other furbabies to Mt. Hood as well.

Experiencia negativa: It’s early as heck in the morning I go in just for maybe like two shots for my dog lady tells me they’re fully booked. Place is completely empty in the front. Only do appointments that waste your time coming here if you’re just walking by for traveling not worth it for some shots seriously it’s crazy

We do work as an appointment only clinic, and do let potential clients know that when they come in for services or call. We absolutely try to do our best if we have an opening to schedule people for later in the day or the next appropriate opening if you were to try and walk up. While you might see it empty in the front it normally is because our rooms are filled, and our doctors and assistants are working with clients. We try not to have many pets in the lobby or any bottlenecks up there for safety of our patients. Where we are always open to feedback I know we have never met your pets before. If we had availability we normally try to get new clients on the schedule for that day, but you must of come on one of our fully booked days. It is definitely important even for vaccines that we can schedule to establish care, and we do normally fill up quite fast.

Experiencia fantástica: Our older tuxedo cat was not doing well and the staff were able to get us in same day. Dr. Z is beyond wonderful. Truly cares and so wonderful with our cat. The assistant was wonderful too. Dr. Z is clear, concise and so comforting and compassionate dealing with tough news. I truly appreciate how good everyone has been to Catman every time we need to go in. I highly recommend this office. They are there for you just as much as your pet family member. You'll be in good hands.

Our oldest is very hesitant towards anyone who is not mom or dad so will protect us with a lot of tough guy barks. Everyone at this clinic is never phased by it, which lowers my anxiety too!!!

Experiencia negativa: My dog dasher went in for an xray on December 8th because he wasn't eating or going potty for over 24 hours. After taking him in, I got the results of his xray on tuesday December 9th around noon. The vet called me saying good news there was no blockage, but that it was gastritis. She said they would call me later in the day with his new diet and medicine prescription. Its now 9m on Tuesday evening and the vet never called me so I can pick up his food and medication. I went to petsmart and bought my own wet food and now am praying he doesn't get nauseous. This clinic new my dog hasn't eaten for 48 hours now and they still chose NOT to call me with hia food and medication. Do not go here if you want to see a vet who truly cares about your dogs health and well being.

I reached out and left you a voicemail today to try to connect around this experience after looking in the chart, and in general hearing this feedback. I have some different areas that I am digging into to explore more of what happened, but we definitely never want to leave you with the impression that there is a lack of care. I do see that some palliative care was offered on the appointment day including food that was declined, but a chart only tells me so much. Experiencia fantástica: I’ve been taking both of my dogs here for the past 3 years. They’re never scared to go in and actually get excited. The staff are very friendly with us and with our dogs. Staff do everything they can to help and are truthful with what things that are needed to save some money or which things can wait. Their office visit price is about average. Great service and staff. This vet clinic has proved to be reliable and consistent in the level of care they offer. Scheduling is an easy process and they aren’t scheduled weeks out. You can access care within a reasonable time frame. They’ve made accommodations for us and it’s always been a pleasant experience taking them in.

Experiencia fantástica: A fantastic experience for us and our pup! It was her first vet visit since we rescued her. The staff was so kind and she took to all of them with ease. The vet answered all of our questions and made sure we had everything we needed. They said they were able to draw blood easily which was a surprise since her shelter paperwork said she needed to be muzzled for anything with needles. I'm so glad we found this place! Since others are complaining about the cost, I wanted to say that there is a $90 initial payment to get the appointment but that is put towards your total. Essentially it's to hold your appointment and used as a safeguard for the office if you cancel within 24 hours. Pretty standard and less than the vet clinic my friend works at, so I feel pretty lucky that this is so close to home and such a great place.

Experiencia fantástica: The vet, Dr. Clare Gardner., is absolutely wonderful. She has seen two cats, one mine and the other cat was a friend’s cat. After seeing her with my friend’s cat, I knew she was amazing and made an appt for my cat with Dr. Gardner. I have had very good vets in the past but she is my absolute favorite. The staff is friendly and kind. Twice they offered to carry a heavy cat in a carrier to my car. They observed that I was struggling. They have seen me coming up the walkway, struggling as well and have hurried to take the cat and carrier to help me get inside. Additionally, Clarissa Zuver was very good with my difficult dog. She was intuitive and thoughtful, and very clear with Information regarding a procedure my dog would have. I have confidence in her care of my dog

Experiencia fantástica: They seem to be the only vet that is able to book an appointment within a week in the Portland area for new clients, which is great for people with cats that don't need regular visits like myself. When it's needed, it's needed quickly in those cases. The staff is all really friendly, the doc is efficient and knowledgeable, and pricing is reasonable. I'm happy to recommend this vet to anyone.

They always inform us of our options, but never push for pricey stuff. 2/11/24 Update: I just wanted to come back and add how wonderful the staff is here. Although I wish you had a 5 star visit we appreciate your feedback we try not to fall behind on rooms, but sometimes an emergency can come up. With the speed of service was this time spent in the room waiting for the doctor, or with the exam?
I also know that sometimes dental estimates can vary based on condition of the mouth and what the vet might examine which leads to higher variations with the cost estimate.

Experiencia negativa: This was one of the worst experiences of my life. I was a student and my husband lost his job. We woke up and our dog would not move. We have used this vet for a few years. They said he had cancer in his spleen and we would have to put him down; that wasn't enough, the cost would be $400ish and they would not do payment plans. They suggested that if we could not pay we could take our dog somewhere else. Seriously; I am a blubbering idiot and my dog can't move, and you want me to take him to another office that I have never visited? WTH The whole situation was traumatizing!!!! I tell everyone I can this story. I would never want this to happen to any one else. I know it won 't put them out of business, but I feel like I can do my part.

Experiencia negativa: 7/16/25 I called and made an appointment for my cat that was peeing blood. I paid the upfront cost of $90 for the first appointment. 7/17/25 Arrived 15 minutes early only to discover that my appointment had been moved by a half hour by the person that booked it the day before and I hadn't noticed the change on the Invoice. Was told I was late and they would not see my cat. I showed them what I had written down at the time I made the appointment and they finally decided they could see my cat. I think this was when my $90 deposit was sucked up by the Clinic and not left as a credit on the account despite the staff telling me that I would "not be charged anything for this appointment due to no exam of my cat" happening. At this appointment my cat was never even removed from her carrier so no "exam" ever took place. She is somewhat feral and it was agreed that an exam would only stress her more. The employees put together a plan for my cat with two different price points ($699.81 & $829.19) based on what they might find while my cat was under anesthesia, and I scheduled her treatment for the next day. I was advised to withhold food and drink from midnight on before her second appointment and I did this as requested. 7/18/25 On this date I dropped off my cat at 2:00pm with a 4:30pm pickup time established. They asked for full payment of $829.19 vs the lower sum of $699.81 from the treatment plan given to me the day before despite some of the items on the plan being optional depending on what they would find once my cat was under anesthesia. There was a lot of pressure put on me to pay the higher sum right then or they wouldn't treat my animal so I went ahead and paid it and I now regret doing this because of what came next. Note that the lower sum was never an option at this point. Why give me two prices then? Under anesthesia they were unable to get a good urine sample from her bladder because she had been without water for so long, despite that being the clinics instructions to me prior to this appointment. I do not know why they didn't give her fluids while she was under so that they could get a good urine sample. This is particularly baffling because this was the main reason my cat was brought to the clinic. They did the hair/nail trim, vaccines, antibiotics injection, post surgery care and provided take home pain meds. They did finally get a urine sample after my cat peed on the bottom of her cage. Not too sanitary. No bacteria found. I returned at 4:30 pm for pickup and was asked to pay more money. I could not understand the billing despite the Office Manager trying to explain it to me several times. The money amounts never added up for me. She told me that she would speak to her staff about what they had told me about the "no cost" comment at the first appointment. I declined the $135.92 for the C/D prescription food because we did not even have my cats lab tests back yet so there was no definitive diagnosis at that time. Also, I later discovered they charge $40.35 for 3-6mg Onsior tablets for pain when you can get them on Chewy for $13.49, and I assume they can get a better price than that since they can buy wholesale and in bulk. Long story short I paid $919.19 for a hair cut, nail trim, 2 vaccinations, antibiotics and a few pain pills. No definitive diagnosis, but pushing very expensive cat food that my cat may or may not need. Note here is that I have four cats so would need to buy this food for all of them to the tune of $67.96 per 8.5 lb bag. There is a class action against Hills right now because they have NEVER given the proof that their scientific diets actually treat the ailments they are prescribed to treat in your pets yet they are widely sold/pushed by Vets nationwide. Buyer beware. I will not be returning to this clinic in the future.

I looked into details of your visit, but I would love to connect further around your experience if you would like. We definitely don't want to miscommunicate around charges, or credits on the accounts. We do create treatment plans that vary in price based on optional services that are recommended - but can be declined, so that we can give options to our clients. You are absolutely more than welcome to choose wear to get your medication & we work with that as well. When it comes to food if it ever is something that you purchase and your loved one isn't interested in we understand and Hill's is great around certain times where we can do refunds. Again this is just something that we would want to connect around further so I can really get more details and see if there is a way I could help you out with that if your cat is not wanting to eat the c/d food. We also don't charge more than Hill's would and try to keep fair prices. Overall I understand if the experience, communication or expectations set didn't meet your standards & again would love to go over it to better support our team / how we show care.

Our fur baby gets very nervous going for check ups but she did such a great job along with her assistant to make it as stress free for my pup, as possible. Even recruited my daughter to assist with holding a stick of peanut butter distract our pup. In and out without a fuss! Receptionists upfront are welcoming and delightful as well :)

Experiencia fantástica: I’ve been taking my dog Joey to Mt. Hood Pet Medical for almost 5 years now, the team and everyone who has taken care of Joey have been really great. But most specifically, Dr. Garden- She’s been Joey‘s doctor ever since he was a puppy and it’s easy to tell that she truly cares about him. It’s a relief knowing I’m leaving him with someone who I trust. I’ve had long phone calls with Dr. Garden about Joeys care plan where not only is she super kind but dedicates time to ensure I feel comfortable with the plan and all my questions are answered. Experiencia fantástica: I really love all the doctors. They are so kind. The back staff girls are also incredibly kind. But, the front desk is terrible. The girls are rude, unwelcoming, and unhelpful. When you come in, no one looks up, no one says hello, it’s a competition on who breaks first and acknowledges you as a customer. Your front desk is your definite weakness. I give the back staff a 10 I give the front desk, zero. I feel this each and every time I go there . You can do better.

Experiencia fantástica: Mt. Hood Pet Medical has numerous veterinarians on staff so that one can almost always secure an appointment. If you have an emergency, they will refer you to a Veterinary ER group. Their staff are knowledgeable, well trained, courteous and helpful at all times. They handle our precious Husky with understanding of the breed and she always loves their attention.

The clinic got us in quickly and gave our puppies their next set of shots. We asked alot of questions since we didn't know too much about this breed, they took their time answering!

Experiencia fantástica: It was our first time with this veterinarian office because our usual one couldn't get us in even though we had a semi-emergency but I'm kind of glad because I was very happy with this office and their staff especially the doctor we had she was very good with our temperamental little kitty. As a result of our mistake, we ended up in an unfortunate situation, needing our Wolfhound mix spayed asap. I was extremely concerned, as sighthounds have very specific anesthesia requirements. The wonderful vets here reassured me, and I was overjoyed to learn some of their team have extensive knowledge of sighthounds. I was terrified for her to go under the knife, but they held my hand, reassured me, and I’m happy to report my beautiful dog is doing great. I’m SO happy I chose them for her spay. They listened to every concern I had and not only met, but exceeded my expectations

We only had 10 minutes grace period so we had to reschedule and prepay the exam fee. Should be more flexible. Please rrethink that policy. Too stringent.

Experiencia fantástica: Great, professional service. Checked in quickly and our doctor was very kind, caring and thorough. Explained everything and answered all questions. A nice place to take your pet for their care. My only suggestion is to have a no fragrance policy as the clinic smelled like a mixture of perfumes and/or chemicals like cleaning. For someone who is sensitive, it was very strong. But that is nothing against the service here. It’s excellent.

My last visit was with a 1 day old kitten of my daughter's cat. It was not nursing and seemed so slow. The staff very gently spoke with me about her. The vet found she had multiple issues and was not going to flourish, even if we fed and cared for her. She helped me make the call to my daughter. She agreed with the vet to let her go. I had carried her in the car inside my shirt to keep her warm. With all hope. The vet let me sit with her for half an hour to wish her well as she passed over the rainbow bridge. I then left her in their gentle care.

Experiencia fantástica: Dr. Sullivan and Dr. Ferguson both treated my little guy and did an excellent job. First fur baby they explained what to expect for vaccinations. Front and back staff provided good customer service and booking appt online was easy.

Experiencia fantástica: Our 5 month old baby was very sick and diagnosed with FIP. Without Dr. Tompkins, she would not be spending Christmas with our family! Dr. Tompkins spent so much time figuring out the right treatment and finding the resources for us to get medication quickly! We can't repay her for the gift she has given us.

Experiencia fantástica: These guys take really good care of my kitties. My otherwise horribly shy cat tolerates them very well too!! Prices are very reasonable and fully explained before as well! I also have a fear of dogs that can make vet visits a little hard for me. Every time I've come here they've ensured I'd have a room to go into right away to be away from any dogs. Honestly not sure if that's what they do for cats, but I deeply appreciate them for doing it. Thank you for caring for my little fuzz balls!
Experiencia negativa: 12 years with this clinic, but something has changed and its not for the better. Disorganized, with poor follow through, I've been willing to pay their high prices because at one time at least was getting superior care. I can no longer recommend Mt Hood Pet Medical, Nice folks but so are my neighbors, but wouldn't let them treat my pets, let alone pay them for it. To bad used to be a top notch outfit.
Experiencia negativa: IF YOU LOVE YOUR PET, DO NOT TAKE THEM HERE. Read below. Dr. Katherine Tompkins and this clinic’s behavior toward my mother and our 16-year-old dog was nothing short of disgraceful. Their actions (or lack thereof) demonstrate a glaring lack of compassion, professionalism, and ethics. It’s clear this clinic prioritizes profit over care of your animals. My mother detailed her experience in a separate review, but the gist is this: After treating our elderly dog, they abandoned him in a moment of crisis. Despite prescribing him medication and agreeing to his treatment plan, they suddenly refused care without warning. Why? Because we weren’t willing to suddenly put him through more invasive and unnecessary procedures just to pad their bottom line. Our dog was at the end of his life and we just wanted to make him comfortable. What’s worse, when my mother begged for help and explained the situation, they stonewalled her. No follow-up from the vet. No concern for his well-being. No acknowledgment of the emotional distress they caused. Just a cold, callous refusal to provide basic care (a prescription) for an elderly dog who was in pain. This clinic made it crystal clear that if you’re not willing to pay for endless tests or expensive procedures, they don’t care about you or your pet. Their focus isn’t on your animal’s health—it’s on your wallet. This clinic doesn’t deserve your trust, your money, or the responsibility of caring for any animal.
Experiencia fantástica: I am always impressed with the high quality level of care all of my animals (I've had 4 here - 2 cats - Slinky and Spumpkin and 2 dogs - Mimi and Fauna) get from all the vets and the vet assistants. They are so compassionate and truly care about pets well-being. They were able to get me an appointment same day as there was a cancellation. This meant the world to me and my sweet precious lil pug girl, Fauna. I wouldn't go anywhere else because I wholeheartedly trust them all and the advice they give for care of my animals. They take time to explain things and are so patient with questions! Thank you Mt Hood Pet Medical!

Experiencia negativa: AWFUL EXPERIENCE. ABANDONED ELDERLY DOG IN A CRISIS. Horrible experience with this clinic, absolutely HORRIBLE. And also unethical, unprofessional, and inappropriate. Abusive? You be the judge. My 16 year old dog was being prescribed GABAPENTIN for pain/seizures by a vet at this clinic (maybe a year or less?). A month or so ago he whined at night in pain, waking me up, and I immediately called the clinic to ask what I should do, should he be put on a pain med, etc. When I called to ask to speak to my vet about my dog's pain episode the receptionist said she would talk to another vet and get back to me. I get a call back and they recommend he be given a third dose of GABAPENTIN in the evening. He as on 100 mg twice daily, sounded like a good plan to add in the third dose at bedtime. Later I get a call letting me know my dog's vet would write a prescription for a pain med. I'd already agreed to add a third dose of GABAPENTIN, so said no. I would call back and we could move forward with the other treatment if needed. Unfortunately my dog had a pain/slight seizure episode a few weeks later. A few seconds, and fine afer but I was extremely upset, and started to think I needed to think about end of life options. HERE IS WHERE THE PROBLEM STARTS and lack of care, ZERO concern for my dog's well-being. I call the office and share what happened, request the pain med for him. I make it clear in this conversation that the next visit for my dog would be end of life visit. I only wanted to make him comfortable at this point. I drive into the city after holiday so 48 hours later, anxious to start him on med and then get a text saying to take my dog to a vet. What? My dog is 16 years old - I had NO plans to put him through any more vet care (tests, x-ray, blood, surgery etc.) as to me that is cruel and inhumane. But it's DOLLAR SIGNS for the vet clinic. And now I was not going to be a DOLLAR SIGN, pay for a visit, etc. so they just dropped his care. In a health crisis? I call the office and tell the receptionist - pretty angry and upset, wouldn't you be? - that "My dog is NOT going to any vet, he is NOT getting any blood drawn, and Xrays, not going to be offered any 10,000 surgery etc. NO DOLLAR SIGNS from me. And I say I WANT TO SPEAK TO HIS VETERINARIAN. Does that seem reasonable? Not for this office. . She says 'ok' she'd let her know. I wait for FOUR HOURS, no call. End of the day, and NO PHONE CALL from the vet. Tell me how pissed off you think I was at this point? Outraged. THE PRESCRIBING vet can't call when a dog has experienced a crisis? They agree to treatment, then just REFUSE to provide care? That seem professional and appropriate to you? The receptionist also in one of these calls told me that "GABAPENTIN is not a pain med". Any vets reading this? Not classified as a pain med, whatever but is of course commonly prescribed to treat pain. So they now are intentionally antagonizing me? How upset would you be at this point? And you are now stuck with NO CARE for your dog. NEVER ONCE was I asked if my dog was ok, if he had worsened (which would of course have warranted emergency visit), etc. THE VETS could care less. DOLLAR SIGNS. they weren't going to get more visits, get to do expensive testings etc. so they dropped a dog/patient and put me the owner through much emotional distress. Sound appropriate to you? Want to experience this? Want your fur baby to be subjected to this lack of concern and care? WHY DIDN"T his vet call? WHY NO CONCERN for his condition/well-being? DOLLAR SIGNS. That's all this office cares about. Not you or your pet. They could have just given a week or two of med to make sure he was comfortable and that I HAD TIME to now deal with not having veterinary care for my elderly dog. DOLLAR SIGNS. I was in CA. So what! People travel with their pets, it doesn't me the care provider gets to abandon them, with no notice, IN a crisis. ZERO CONCERN For my dog. NEVER asked about his condition. HORRIBLE VET CLINIC. Go elswere.

Experiencia negativa: Giving one star due to this office always causing issues with my dogs medicine. She takes prescription meds, and every single time we have to refill them, there is a hiccup- and my dogs meds are delayed. Just today they told us they canceled and didn't fill our prescription because our dog doesn’t have a file there. We’ve been taking all of our animals here for 5 years, and the dog in question has been going for 3 years. We even just spent 400$ on a check up for her a few months ago. Whenever we try to call to resolve, we’re met with a rude receptionist, again telling us that they don’t have a record of our dog. We’ve spend thousands at this place over the years, and I’m so incredibly disappointed.
Experiencia fantástica: My cat gets scared at the vet and hides under a jacket or inside the hoodie I’m wearing. My last visit I was sitting on the floor when the vet came in. Instead of asking me to put him on the table, she sat on the floor with me to do the exam. Cant tell you how much I appreciated that. Made my cat so much more comfortable in an already scary situation for him and the vet showed so much compassion for him. Thank you Dr. Sullivan!!!

Experiencia fantástica: Took my kitten here for her first visit. The front desk staff was welcoming with checking us in and then walked us back to the exam room. Dr Sullivan and her tech were both very nice, and affectionate towards my furbaby. When it was time for my kitty to get her first vaccine she was given a little treat and I really appreciate that they did that.

Experiencia negativa: Our cat was having ear problems, and they had such a hard time dealing with her despite saying they work with cats. They ultimately said it was an ear infection "but without doing a full exam, they can't be certain" and then said she was too fussy to look further. Mind you, we give her Gabapentin every time, so she was almost fully conked out. This was also the SECOND visit back because they said the same thing the first time and threw more Gabapentin at us and said to reschedule when she's drugged. I'm not drugging my cat even more just because you don't know how to assess a cat. They literally treated her like the plague. We ended up taking her to Humane Society for an exam, where they were able to not only treat her WITHOUT drugs, but they treated our cat like a member of our family. They were able to find out she had a tumor in the outer ear canal. A place that is easily visible without a full exam and they even shamed this vet for not noticing. So Mt Hood wasted not just my money, but they wasted precious time we could've used for cancer treatment. They did great with my dog, but based on our experience with our cat, you couldn't pay me to go back and support this place. Original: I cannot say enough about how positive our experience was! We recently moved from CO and I was really nervous about establishing new care for our dog, especially during COVID. Not only was our technician (Kaitlyn) extremely knowledgeable, but her friendly demeanor helped put me at ease. Dr. Garden was the dr. that assessed my pup. We knew he would need dental work and we had concerns and questions about this. She answered each and every one of our questions thoroughly, honestly and in a way that was clear for me a client. When we got our pup back, he was just fine! He usually is timid or shaking but it was like nothing happened! Good experience for him, as well, which is important to us. Huge shout out to the entire staff but specially Kaitlyn and Dr. Garden!

Experiencia negativa: Called the day before to make an appt for the following day as my pet was very ill. Paid visit cost up front the day before. Had to take the day off to bring my pet in. On the way to the appt the next day, they called and cancelled my appt. Was going to be his new vet. But I won't even be considering them now. They cancelled the appt for a reason I still dont understand. Wasn't clear it all. So that told me, they were not concerned about my very sick dog. And I want a clinic that IS concerned for a sick animal. So won't recommend.

This was a very unusual situation and is certainly not something that would normally happen at our clinic. Experiencia positiva: My feelings have gone back and forth about this vet for a couple years. They've seen 3 dogs and 3 cats for us, since around 2011. We are down to 3 dogs now, as we've had to euthanize all 3 cats within a year. They received the absolute best end of life care we could have asked for, and MHPM was amazing in squeezing them in when it was their time. For each pet we received condolence cards, a little jar of fur, and ink paw prints. We've never had to ask for these things. When we put our last one down, who has slept by my head every night since I was 10, we received everything but the ink paw prints. We did not think to ask because we assumed we would automatically get them as we did with our other two. I'm devastated we weren't asked. I wanted to get my kitty's paw tattooed on my shoulder; now that she's been cremated it's impossible. Guess I'll know for when my dogs go :(

Experiencia fantástica: Very nice visit. My favorite vet on the east side. Other vets don’t compare to the bedside care that this vet provides. Beautiful exam rooms with windows so my dog can see the outdoors and it’s not this closed box for him to be scared.
