Fantastic experience: I've dealt with this Vet's office for a while now. When it came to the extremely hard and sad conclusion I had to put my older German shepherd down on Nov 20th, they was very caring and understanding. They was also by far the cheapest in the local area. They didn't rush me out, after they gave him the shot, they said take all the time you need. I would highly recommend them and definitely would use them again. He was 100% a daddy's boy. Rachette RIP

Fantastic experience: Dr. Skylar West was phenomenal with our standard poodle end of life discussion, he explained in detail, extended sincere condolences, and made the transition for our young dog comfortable for all. He is dedicated to his patients and their families. We will absolutely be back to see him again in the future, and can’t thank him enough.

Negative experience: Chain of hope helped me put Ham down after nurological issues due to exposure to unhealthy conditions at the complex I live. At first they were extremely nice and compassionate they seemed a little irritated that I wanted to stay with him till the end. I was back there grieving my dog for about 10 minutes a nurse pops her head in and says that the chain I hope is going to call me and that I need to answer it and can you believe it the lady from chain of Hope is telling me that I need to get up and leave out of the side door or their independence animal hospital is going to call the Independence Police to make me leave I guess when you pay for things like this yourself compassion and basic human decency is included in the price. He was my ESA for 5 years they did all his shots and I thought they was so great...they could have told me it was time to go...seen other reviews where other people got all the time they needed...like I said I guess compassion is only included when you pay with your own money and don't have the need for Chain of Hope to help. The way they chose to handle this was disgusting and unkind AT THE LEAST

Positive experience: Many of my family members, friends and myself have trusted Indep. Animal Hospital for many years to take care of our pets. I won't take my pets anywhere else because I trust the doctors. Their fees are reasonable as well. I do wish the office would accepy appointments. The wait time can vary from 20 mins to well over an hour so you must plan accordingly.

Fantastic experience: Absolutely the best. For honestly,reasonable prices, and up front no sugar coating things. Brought my big boy cat in last week found out he has diabetes. And now hes on insulin and is making a remarkable recovery. Thanks to all the staff there

Fantastic experience: My mother swore by Dr Wingert. He was her hero when it came to her animals. She was more picky about their care than she was over the care of her kids. Not kidding. And he's the best.

Negative experience: I'm not going to support an animal clinic that allows and preforms declawing. It's just inhumane. Also the park lot was overpacked and there was crazy wait times because they don't take appointments for anything other than surgeries.

Fantastic experience: They are a lifeline that I didn't know we had in Independence. I had to recently put down one of my dogs due to cancer. Its was a rough day and we didn't make it there until they were closed. About 2 minutes after. And they still saw us and helped with our dogs euthanasia. About a month later or last week at the time of writing this My other dog started to vomit blood and Dr. Scott took care of my little girl, and even called and provided updates as she recovered. Over all with their care to both the animals and human parents I would recommend them to any one.

Fantastic experience: We have been going here for about 18 years and the service has NOT changed! Dr. Becker and Dr. Wingart are absolutely amazing!! The ladies at the front desk are very polite and understanding, the Dr’s nursing staff couldn’t be more amazing as well! HIGHLY recommend!

Negative experience: Took my dog to this clinic for a tooth abstraction they had told me that his blood work looked pretty good and after the abstraction we took him home he started to get better but one week laterhe started to feel bad so I took him back they gave him a couple shots and some meds they didn't rerun the blood test because he was still ill so I took him home 2 days later I went to a different hospital and found out he was really bad off. they tried to save him but it was too late he dead. I trusted that the Doctor knew what was the best thing to do but sometimes you need to question their decision.

Fantastic experience: They always take good care of my fur baby. This time it was to get the paperwork done for going to Canada and returning into the US border control. New US requirements that started Aug 2024.

Fantastic experience: Dr.Scott repaired both of my 13 lb morkies ACL’s. She’s healed & thriving, & I know from speaking for other vets that the price I got was beyond cheaper than what I could’ve gotten anywhere else.

Negative experience: I quit going there because of an obvious conflict between office staff and vets. I took my dog in for trachea treatment and was charged anywhere between $25-45 per visit for a shot. The shot was always the same but price always varied. Toenail trims went from $10 to $15. Too high. I feel it was based in how busy they were. Many times the lobby is empty. Office staff was sitting around in the office on many occasions with nothing to do. I took another dogs labs and paperwork in for safekeeping while I was moving. They lost the paperwork. I called several days later and they searched and couldn't find her paperwork. They were posting signs in the lobby, No New Patients Until Further Notice, running people off. I got tired of the obvious conflict and felt it was best to go somewhere else. Those vets will lose a practice if they don't do something with the staff. The staff is sure lazy, I agree.

Fantastic experience: Our old vet got "corporatized" and the quality of service got worse. So we found IAH and started going there for our dog's shots and teeth cleanings. They are very well priced, but they don't take appointments so it's first come, first served. Despite that, they have been very good with our dog and we will return.

Fantastic experience: We LOVE Independence Animal Hospital! We have been bringing our pets here for over 30 years. We cant say enough good things about them. They are phenomenal!! We appreciate them so very much!

Negative experience: I love this practice except for the rude staff at the desk. Unfortunately they have made it very difficult to bring a pet in with such reduced hours and no Saturday appointments. I have always brought our animals to them but now will be looking for a new vet. I hate to do that but unfortunately that is how it is.

Fantastic experience: I have taken all my animals here over the years and have always been pleased with the service we received. In June, we had a terrible incident where our sweet Mabel unfortunately lost a limb. The providers at this office, literally went above and beyond and miraculously saved her life. The patience they showed with our fears, concerns, all the check in calls and questions is appreciated beyond measure. I truly believe that without the dedication and care they provided, our sweet girl wouldn’t be with us today. It was a rough few months and with each new obstacle, they continued to give all they could and we will forever be thankful! While life looks a bit different now, Mabel has finally found her new normal and is just as sweet and spicy as ever. Words don’t seem like enough but from the bottom of our hearts, thank you.

Fantastic experience: They always take excellent care of our dog and everyone is friendly and seem to enjoy what they do. Zeus has been going here since a pup and when others cannot figure out what is wrong with him, we bring him back here to be diagnosed and treated properly. Great place for your pet.

Fantastic experience: Only place to take your pets in my opinion! Dr Becker is the best and one I know the most, my mother has went to him for decades. Every doctor and nurse as well as the rest of staff are always pleasant to us and our animals. They are also more reasonably priced compared to other vets/hospitals.

Fantastic experience: Best prices! Actually affordable! Keep trying back. Often times they’re not accepting new patients. Definitely call and check if it’s your first time going.

Positive experience: I drive 40 minutes to take my pets here for care. The vets and staff truly care, and they don't overcharge for services. The waiting room is usually crowded so be prepared to wait a little.

Negative experience: Took my cat to get neutered. Was told to call around 1 for an update, which I did. I was put on hold. Hung up after 10 mins and called back to which before I could say anything I was back on hold. At this point I'm panicking a little thinking that maybe something happened or went wrong. Got in my car and drove up there. They were very rude upon arrival saying that they are just extremely busy. All they had to do was tell me he was fine and what time to pick him up on the phone. 10 second conversation, instead you make pet owners feel like they are a bother.

Fantastic experience: I have gone to Dr Becker for many years. He is very knowledgeable about my breed - Bulldogs. He takes the time to explain everything. He's the best.

Fantastic experience: I was sent there by Chain of Hope, as a second opinion/chance, after going to a Hoity Toity place from Kansas that suggested I spend 4-$6000 on a surgery for my injured kitten. Which the other place knew I didn't have that much money, I already spent over $500 there and they suggested the surgery or put my kitten down. The Veterinarian at Independence Animal Hospital looked at her, gave her a shot, some fluids and some soft food for me to feed her and gave me hope!! 2 days later she seems like nothing ever happened. Thank God I didn't listen to those other people! My baby is alive and resilient and doing great!! Thank you so much!!

Negative experience: These people do not care about animals. Since they do not take appointments anymore, they expect you to wait up to 2 hours in your car. My dog has severe car anxiety, and I explained that to them. We tried it twice and had to leave after waiting in our car for almost 2 hours each time and my dog was panting out of control! This forced me to take my dog to another vet to get her shots because they would not work with me. Today I offered Independence Animal Hospital proof that she’s been vaccinated because I wanted to buy heart worm pills from this hospital like I always have for years from them. The doctor refused to sell me the pills unless she had a check up thorough them and would not let me, show proof of her vaccinations she had a few months ago! The front desk lady had already told me a few weeks ago that it would be fine to buy a few months’ worth of pills through them, but the doctor refused today, and I was really needing these pills for my dog and depended on this. Here it’s a holiday and she has no heart worm pills and this is not right! These people do not care about animals! Did they even care we sat 2 times in the car to see a doctor and had to give up. They do not work with you if you have a anxious dog and we were good clients! I wish my old vet hadn’t retired because Dr Howard was the best there was!

Negative experience: I took my pup in for a cortisone shot for her allergies and to have a lump on her neck examined. They check in system here is horrible and the place is fitly. They don't even try to clean up the urine on the floor. The doctor squeezes the lump and says, " I'll cut it out for $250." I said, " Cut what out? Is it Cancer?" He then states, "it's all cancer. It'll be another $175 to tell you what kind." I obviously took a hard pass and a second opinion. Come to find out the allergies had her lymph node swollen and the cortisone shot helped it. The lump is now gone. An absolute disgrace to the real vets who genuinely care about your animals. This is nothing more than a butcher shop!

Negative experience: The way you treated someone today who was looking for guidance from you was just disgusting! She was referred to you! She cared about that kitty and you just added insult to injury with your rudeness and coldness. I will never refer anyone to you again, and i damn sure wouldnt even let you so much as euthanize an animal let alone any other services. Had it been me you would have been told where to go and i would have walked right out the door and taken him to a Real Veterinarian, one with compassion and professionalism. I dont know if this is your everyday mannerisms or if it was because of the way she looked. either way you were in the wrong! DO BETTER!

Fantastic experience: I had to take my little girl to get cremated and they were so nice to me. Did not have me wait very long and explain to me about the process. I just picked up her Ashes and it’s i beautiful box with her footprints and a Cute little thing about my little girl and the nurse that was with me she was so nice. She did everything other than hold my hand you guys did wonderful and thank you.

Fantastic experience: Dr. West is Amazing. Out of all the vets I've been to over the past 8 years. He has been the kindest and most understanding. I have 3 German Shepherds, and he has been great to them. The vet techs have been awesome with my babies as well.

Negative experience: I went here Friday to have my animal looked at. I wasn’t sure if had been attacked by another animal or hit by a car which is what I told Dr.West which is who looked at my Loki that day. His exam consisted of him picking my cat up and running his hands the spine to make sure nothing was broke he flung him around like a rag doll. West saw a cat that could stand and from what he could feel had no broken bones I kept telling him that I knew something was wrong and he assured me that my cat would be fine. So he gave him a shot of cortisone for pain and sent me on my way home with him. Well over the weekend I noticed that as my cat would get up to walk there was trail of blood behind him and since the clinic is closed during the weekend I had to wait to take my car back to be seen. So I took him back only to find my that my cats tail was paralyzed and there was damage done to the point that he was not able to use the bathroom. He had a full bladder upon his exam this time with a different vet here. So then I was told that there was nothing that could be done to save him so I had to put him down. I was charged $65 that Friday to be told my cat would be fine and then was charged $120 yesterday to put my baby down all because on Friday Dr.West misdiagnosed my cat and may have caused more damages when he flung my cat side to side durning his exam.

Fantastic experience: Dr. Wingert is the best Vet I have ever had. I highly recommend this hospital for all routine care. You will need to go elsewhere for more specialized services, but for your pets' general health, this is the place to go!

Fantastic experience: Unfortunately my experience at independence animal hospital was very tragic but I don't believe it's because of anything they did wrong Atleast I hope not . I took my kitty cat Milo there because he was suffering from a horrible UTI and couldn't go pee by himself and was in a lot of pain and just not comfortable at all. He was there for about 5 days they put a catheter in him to drain his urine but he was still having a lot of blood and crystals built up . The Dr. Thought he would be able to pass them with the catheter well that ended up not being the case it was so bad he needed surgery. So I agreed to go ahead with surgery but unfortunately the nite before surgery they called me and said he was crying out a lot and his back legs were ice cold and I needed to come get him and rush him to an emergency hospital that could better care for him . I jumped in the car and literally did 110 miles per hour to get there as quickly as I could but when I arrived and walked in I saw him laying there lifelessly and the Dr. Put his arms around me and said I am so sorry Milo didn't make it . I literally lost it . The Dr looked and acted genuinely concerned and sad himself and said he didn't understand why this happened because Milo was not even 3 years old and he told me the only explanation could be that a blood clot went to his heart and the stress from the UTI was probably too much for his heart to handle that he may of been born with a bad heart so his heart failed . The Dr. Stayed after hours with him until he passed and did everything he possibly could to help him I believe and he was so kind he didn't even charge me a penny for all the time he spent there or all of the procedures they did for him ... Of course I have a million thoughts racing through my mind like did they do something wrong is it their fault but I believe in my heart the Dr. Did everything he could to try and help him and I am grateful for everything he did for my baby boy thank you doc for staying with Milo in his last minutes

Fantastic experience: I had to stop in this morning for life ending services with my dog, Tiny. Dr. West, with his assistant handled the situation, and I didn't get her name, as I greatly appreciated them both for their professionalism and compassion at a difficult time. It hit me like wall, and they were very patient, and it meant a lot and I truly thank them both! I've also had the help of Dr.Scott as well, with my dog Tallia, and they are all great and very talented professionals. Thank you!!

Positive experience: By far the most affordable vet around. They are always busy but the vets are always kind and compassionate. After a short stint of cancer we ultimately ended up letting our cat cross the rainbow bridge. The staff was so genuinely kind and supportive through the whole process. Nothing is easy about putting your pet to sleep but I'm thankful for everyone there.

Negative experience: I called to see about getting my dogs treatment for an illness and while on the phone speaking to the rep she hung up on me. I called back thinking surely that was a mistake and the same person answered and said nothing and then put me on hold immediately and turned the hold music all the way up to get me to hangup. Do not waste your time and money here. Apparently their front end staff are childish and refuse to actually help animals in need. I've heard great things about this place and it's extremely disappointing to be treated so poorly for absolutely no reason.

Fantastic experience: We have been using this clinic in our family for over 30+ years and they are amazing. Their prices are extremely fair and the veterinarians’ dedication to their work is unmatched. We would never use anyone else and highly recommend them to everyone.

Fantastic experience: i’m so grateful to be able to take my pets here. they provide the best care and all of the staff are amazing. there aren’t words to describe how much of a blessing they are for my family and the entire community. the wait times can vary because this is a walk in only vet clinic. For me, I will always make time. It’s worth it.

I switched from another clinic to IAH they are always very efficient and you can tell they are in this business to care for the pets in their community and not just to sell you meds/services/foods for you pets that are unnecessary. I have been very pleased with the care and compassion for my fur babies.

Positive experience: Update: 12/23/24 the secretary staff needs a class in costumer service. They’re incredible rude and honestly the main issue I have with this business. I LOVE Dr Wingert and the vet techs with my whole heart. But they’re rude to me and other costumers when their only job is to help the humans help their pets. It’s ridiculous. 10/10 for Wingert 10/10 for prices 10/10 for vet tech staff -1000000/10 for the front desk girls. I’ve been coming for going 12 years. Dr. Wingert is the only one that will hear you out and listen. But I never get him anymore. It’s by appointment only. And last few times I was there, I wasn’t allowed to go in with my pets. I work in animal care/reacue/I’m a dog trainer. I’m no stranger to dogs or the things they go through, again, Dr. Wingert actually hears me out and listens to my concerns/makes a game plan we’re both comfortable with. Becker, on the other hand does not listen. My BC got KC from a daycare and brought it home to my boxer and Westie. They put my BC on a antibiotic and it didn’t work, so they switched her to a different one that would fight that strain. When I took Westie and boxer to the vet they prescribed them the pills that didn’t work for my BC. I asked him if we could do the second ones because it didn’t work on my first dog. He said “no this is what we start our dogs on” my boxer ended up with pneumonia and my Westie died. (It was an underlying heart condition that took her out, but it’s the kennel cough that was the straw that broke the camels back. I can’t help but think if we’d started with the second antibiotic that she would have lived longer. I’ve now switched vets.i hope things will get better again but until then ‍♀️

Fantastic experience: This is not my regular vet only bc years ago I started with a different one and I like them too. BUT I have for different reasons used there services and they are amazing. I just had another encounter with them and again their service and willingness to work with me was awesome. The staff genuinely cares for each and every animal and u can tell it’s not just about money. Thank you to the staff for all that you are and do for our animals

Fantastic experience: This vets office has always been amazing with my animals. I recently took my dog in due to an obstruction in his intestine. Dr. Wingert advised my dog would need to spend a few nights there to do x-rays and surgery. They took amazing care of him, sent me updates every day when I wasn’t able to visit him. Their prices are unbeatable as well! They truly care for animals and want what’s best for them instead of what’s best for their pockets like a lot of other vets do. I will always recommend Independence Animal Hospital.

Fantastic experience: Independence Animal Hospital is the only place I trust to care for my four dogs. My dogs are my babies, so finding the best care for them is an absolute must! The staff are always kind and responsive, whether I’m walking in or setting up an appointment. The nurses are so helpful and genuinely happy to assist with my dogs, which makes every visit a positive experience. This past month, Dr. West performed surgery on two of my dogs—one was neutered, and the other needed stitches. Both procedures went smoothly, and my dogs healed quickly, getting back to their playful selves in no time! I tend to ask a lot of questions (probably too many), but Dr. West is always patient, thorough, and incredibly knowledgeable. I could tell he truly cared about my dogs’ well-being, which gave me so much confidence and peace of mind throughout the entire experience. Dr. Becker recently helped one of my dogs by removing a tumor from her front leg. He could tell how concerned I was and immediately put me at ease, assuring me that they would take excellent care of her. Thanks to his compassion and skill, the tumor was fully removed, and she’s already healing well and back to her normal self. If you’re looking for a kind, skilled, and trustworthy vet, I can’t recommend Independence Animal Hospital enough!

Fantastic experience: We took our 6 week old kitten here when she got a fish hook in her tiny little leg. Thing is, it went all the way through and I couldn’t pull it out. I called Chain of Hope and they told me to take her to Independence Animal Hospital. Upon arrival, the ladies at the front desk were so nice. When the nurse called us back, she took a look and said “I’ll be right back.” When she came back she had removed it just like that and my little Willow was purring like nothing happened. The whole experience was great and I would definitely recommend this place for all your furbaby medical.

Fantastic experience: I would never take my dog anywhere else! Great doctors, friendly staff and affordable prices. They aren’t in it for the mightyDollar, they are in it to get your pet healthy and well! Big difference in veterinarians in my opinion!

Negative experience: I don’t trust ANY animal hospital but I have a particular reason for this one. The dog I take there only gets an allergy shot monthly, per their suggestion but the price is different EVERY single time. I called them out about it and they gave me the lowest price they’d ever charged me. I’m researching how to challenge this legally. I have all of my receipts. Stay tuned!

I had the pleasure of meeting Dr Scott on my last visit and found him to be honest, sincere, and very easy to talk to. Fantastic experience: Between my parents and myself and about 30 cats and dogs over a span of 40 years, we have been loyal patrons and they have been a great veterinary clinic/hospital. We have never used anyone else for reason. It's a vet, they handle family members who can not speak up for themselves. So when choosing a clinic for mine I only choose the best, Independence Animal Hospital.

Fantastic experience: My son brought his dog here after our vet was closed due to a car running into the building. He saw Dr. West without an appointment. He was satisfied and found the doctor to be very knowledgeable.

Fantastic experience: I can't say enough good things about Dr. West, Dr. Wingert and your wonderful staff. Thank you for taking such good care of my cat Mia when she was sick. You quickly got her back on track of feeling so much better and we will never forget it.

Fantastic experience: I've taken my cats here for care several times now. They are very friendly and worth the walk-in wait. They are very transparent about what's going on with your pet and what it will take to help them. This is the best vet in town.

Negative experience: Well I called regarding my daughter dog still having fleas even when she been indoors past few days now. When she sits next to me they start to get on me and start biting me. The medicine I bought from here isn't working like it should. The lady explained that the fleas will need to be on the dog and then die after ingesting the blood/medication but that isn't the case for my situation. I just now had a flea on me that jumped from my dog . And I guess the lady I spoke to didn't want to honor a refund . But the person who replied here stated differently the product is just not working

Fantastic experience: Great care, affordable prices, friendly staff. My cat received excellent treatment and is fully recovered. Highly recommend!

Negative experience: Huge waste of time. I couldn’t get any information over the phone prior to going into their office. I understand they do walk-ins and that’s kind of a nightmare, but I was scheduled for a cherry eye surgery and couldn’t get basic information over the phone. I woke up early traveled all the way down there just to find out they’re using xylazine for anesthetics versus Propofol and gas. Everyone may have their own opinions, but to me using xylazine because it is cheaper is absolutely ridiculous.

Fantastic experience: Had to have a cat put to sleep, she was 19.they told me to call when I arrived, went through a side or back door so you didn't have to be around customers during this somber time. The vet and vet technician were very nice and apologetic. They were very affordable. There my new vet from now on.

Negative experience: Showed up with an appointment today that I had made early last week for a cat spay. Was rudely turned away. Told me they didn't accept walk-ins and were extremely short with me. I walked out honestly thinking I had gone to the wrong place! Double checked my phone records and confirmed this was the place I called last week. If they can't keep an appointment or offer basic decency in their communication, I don't know how I feel about that clinic performing surgery on my pet. Maybe I just dodged a bullet here, but they could really work on their customer service and appointment taking skills. Will not be rescheduling. Found a cheaper and much more caring veterinarian.

Fantastic experience: I had a horrible experience at another vet in Grain Valley, that vet is worse than a used car salesman with sales tactics. Trying to get my sick cat to have overnight stays with rounds of antibiotics and fluids for nearly a grand, with no diagnosis. Luckily I was able to get in at Independence animal clinic for a second opinion, and they immediately knew what was wrong and diagnosed her to have FIP, which is fatal. They told me she wouldn't die immediately, but would slowly deteriorate. He only charged me $25 for the exam. I asked about euthanize cost and they told me $100..I went home and discussed with my wife and we made the decision to not have our kitty suffer. So I took her back up, the same day, and made it as comfortable for kitty and me. It's horrible to have to put our year old sweet kitty down, but they made it bearable! Afterwards I told them my situation of needing the second opinion, because of the horrible dealings Crain vet in Grain Valley. And they agreed, they heard bad things about them. Because of this traumatic situation, they didn't even charge me the euthanize fee. And felt horrible that we had gone through that!. They even let me out the side door after putting her down. I can't express enough how much care snd compassion they showed me and my kitty! I suggest if you need a fair priced vet with direct answers, (even if it hurts) the truth, Independence animal clinic is the real deal! You can go to another vet, but they may see an opportunity to milk you for everything they can first! Go to Independence animal clinic!

Fantastic experience: My dog had to have her eye removed due to a deep corneal ulcer that was resistant to other treatment. I appreciate the reasonable price I was charged for her surgery.

Positive experience: Ladies at front desk acted like they would rather be anywhere than at work the day I went in and were grouchy. The vet and employees in the back are nice and helpful and answer any questions you may have. The prices are cheap as far as vets go and they took good care of my dog and both cats. We will definitely still go there I just wish it was a more welcoming atmosphere.

Fantastic experience: Always a great experience. Caring staff. I just really appreciate how affordable they make taking care of my dog, especially since everything else has become so much more expensive. It gives peace of mind that I can afford to care for my fur kid.

Negative experience: If only I could give this business 0 stars. I arrived there to pick up my girls dogs ashes that had to get put down recently. They called at 430pm telling me her asher were ready and that I could come pick them up today. I told them I was 30mins out and will be there alittle after 5pm it took me 30mins to get there I got there at 5:05pm I proceeded to call them several times and no answer I saw 3 people walking through and noticing me but no one ever came to the door I ended up waiting an extra 30mins for someone to come out. I find it to be very inconsiderate and unprofessional to misslead a current customer. Why even call this has already been a rough time for us, and my girl has been waiting on some type of closure, and you guys are just prolonging that

Fantastic experience: I appreciate the wait in your car until you are called in. Lot less of a hassle. Didn't take that long to get in. Was not in very long at all. Just had yearly shots and a nail trim. We will see them again next year.
