Experiencia fantástica: Our go to place for all our family pets spay and neuters. Wonderful place! Theres a reason its hard to get in with them. I recommend requesting services via their online form at least 2 months before services are needed if able. Plan ahead! I wont go anywhere else!

Experiencia fantástica: I have been to PALs with a couple different buddies and the staff is always wonderful, fast, and friendly. This last time I went in to get my one year old kitty his shots, we were in the building less than 30 minutes. The prices are excellent and the office itself is very cool to look at.

Experiencia negativa: Fair warning. In order to lock in an appointment for neutering, you need to pay in full upfront, and if you cancel and request a refund you need to show up in person. Please dont make the same mistake as me. They will take your money over the phone, but for some reason they can not provide the same service when it comes to refunds. This is most likely still a policy since it probably brings in a good portion of income.

The staff were kind and helpful- they did a great job of explaining aftercare and scheduling coordination. The prices cannot be beat either. Prevent a Litter is a wonderful operation that greatly benefits the RVA community.

Experiencia negativa: Erica, the lady at the front desk, was completely unempathetic and tone deaf when it came to helping a customer who had just suffered from a very traumatic experience. I have no respect or tolerance for people or staff of any facility who are not understanding and rude to others who are going through a difficult time. The fact that this is the greeting face of your clinic is shameful and extremely unprofessional. I HIGHLY recommend that staff undergo training in regards to customer support and care because no care or support was shown when fees were still demanded from someone who had been suffering from a coma. Extremely, extremely disappointing and of poor quality and character. I don't understand how the clinic expects to retain returning customers when money and interests are valued higher than the well-being of their customers. It truly makes one question the world we live in.

Experiencia fantástica: They helped spay and neuter all of my cats when I was in a tough financial position. Even though this vet is affordable, they do not sacrifice quality of care. My cats are all healthy and happy now and had no issues or adverse effects from their routine shots. The woman at the front desk was very sweet with all of them and she talked to them like they were her own babies. I was a nervous wreck during each visit and they did everything they could to make me feel more comfortable. Just wanted to say thank you from the bottom of my heart. Highly recommend.

I have gotten several cats fixed here and none of them have had any long term complications. The instructions on their website and when scheduling an appointment are helpful and the post surgery instructions are easy to understand. All the staff have been compassionate, even if interactions need to stay brief because they're so busy.

Experiencia fantástica: Took my cat here to get spayed. Dropped her off at 8am picked her up at 5:30pm. It was easy, they were very organized and friendly. They charge $90 for female cats and $65 for male cats. The vet I go to quoted me $750. They do a great job I would recommend taking your pet to them. If you’re able to you can give a donation to help them out and still save a ton of money in the end. Thanks PAL!

Experiencia fantástica: Absolute and literal Lifesavers!!! I have a female who is 8 and was unspayed. Honest reason, she's got a natural attitude and her in heat was when everyone got along. Started to hear about issues that could arise so I got her scheduled with PAL who I've trusted for 15 years with various pets. Turns out she has developed a severe rare and deadly infection that could have ended her life within 3 weeks had this not been done. Every step of recovery was gone over in detail with the vet himself after and my baby girl is getting back to get old self. This is less a review and more of a complete and heartfelt thank you to everyone involved directly and indirectly, heck, to everyone that works there. You saved a life, saved a cat dad some very extreme grief and guilt and proved why I recommend you to everyone in the area for their needs. Always amazing staff, amazing doctors, and an amazing company!

Experiencia negativa: Dear Reader, Prevent a Litter has depleted its funds for “free” spay and neuter for animals. It seems animal caregivers use the “free” service but donations don’t match the need. I brought a feral/stray/community cat in for “free” services but was later informed AFTER my pet kittens received their treatment, that the monies that I had prepaid were used for the feral/stray/community cat. Unbeknownst to me, until I was scheduled to pick up my kittens. I was hit with an additional $115 bill. No one at Prevent A Litter communicated this infraction. No one sent a text or email stating that I had a balance to be paid. All of my receipts say “paid in full”. I’m really saddened that they are choosing to extort pet owners in this way. I’m doing my part by spaying/neutering. P.A.L needs to stand by their commitment since their inception in 1999 where they believed “it was only fair to help these cats and their caretakers by offering (feral/community cats) spay and neuter for free.”

Experiencia fantástica: Our bunny Piper was spayed at Prevent a Litter on 1/10/24! The staff was amazing, and I was confident that Piper would be in great hands throughout the day. The procedure, risks, and aftercare were thoroughly explained to me (though I had done a lot of research beforehand and knew what to expect). Staff accommodated the very large crate I brought in so Piper would be comfortable while she waited for her procedure. I was also able to purchase additional days' worth of aftercare pain med for Piper beyond the 2 days of meds I was given, so I could be assured she would be comfortable through the weekend. Piper's recovery was remarkably fast, and I could hardly see her incision, just her shaved belly, which she never bothered beyond normal grooming. It healed amazingly well! Piper is doing super, and I am so thankful for having found Prevent a Litter to perform the spay procedure and allow Piper to have a future without fear of ovarian/uterine cancer! Thank you so much, from Piper and my family!!

Experiencia positiva: After having used Prevent A Litter as my go to place for spays/neuters for the last 10+ years, I’m sad to say I will no longer be using them or recommending them anymore cuz today (as well as the last 6 months of trying) was a very big disappointment when I thought I had finally scored an available submission form for appointments for spaying & neutering my youngest two dogs, just to be told the opposite. (I give 3 stars cuz they have safely & successfully spayed/neuters 6 of my pets prior from 2010 to 2022 so I give half stars for each of those animals. I never had near as much of an issue getting those animals appointments as bad as I’ve been trying to get appointments for my youngest dogs in the last 6 months.) I was told to fill out their submission form on the first Monday at 10am every month. So for the last 6 months, I had tried, but today I was FINALLY able to get in to fill out the form but I never got a confirmation email so I call & leave a voicemail asking if they got my submission form EVEN THOUGH Google Docs said it went through. I get a call back about an hour later & am told “if you didn’t receive a confirmation email, your submission didn’t go through. If you need a spay/neuter procedure urgently, we recommend calling the Richmond SPCA.” I just hang up cuz WOW, JUST WOW. I’ve not only wasted the last 6 months trying to get in with y’all (just to be told to go somewhere else), but I was also turned away by y’all last October after having called about needing an emergency abort spay for my female dog (WHO WAS 10 MONTHS OLD) cuz as I was in the process of “preventing a litter”(a careless dog sitter let her get locked up with an intact male on her last day of heat) y’all couldn’t be bothered to squeeze her in cuz I didn’t fill out the form… what good is the form if it doesn’t send my spay/neuter application through though??? Unfortunately, I didn’t have $1,000 to spend on emergency abort spay surgery with other vet offices, so I had to let my poor underage dog go through the pain of whelping and raising a litter of 10 right at Christmas… Everybody was all “spay & neuter your pets! Prevent a litter has an amazing low cost spay/neuter program!” Yeah, well, they couldn’t be bothered to have prevented this litter even after I called & begged for an emergency spay abort. And when I tell people that, they were shocked & disappointed yall didn’t try harder to prevent the litter even though THAT IS YOUR BUSINESS NAME. Y’all say you’re understaffed & always pushing capacity, but I’ve been hearing this for the last 5 years. I find that hard to believe cuz at one point in 2019 & again in 2021, I had applied for two separate positions for employment, just to never hear back a denial email or even an interview. So either your hiring manager is crap at their job & purposely not hiring applicants and needs to be investigated or y’all like to waste time of those looking not only for a job but also a place to spay/neuter. Richmond Animal League was able to get me in for an appointment later this month. They cost a little more, but at least it took me a day to get one of my dogs in with them, NOT 6 MONTHS WASTED FOR NOTHING!

Today was day 2 of her pain meds and she took them so easily, her incision is healing beautifuly and she is already trying to get back to her spunky self. So glad I found this clinic. Would absolutely recommend!!

I got a call that week that I submitted my app. They also call right before the appointment to answer any questions and give instructions. The prices are the lowest I've ever found and has been so helpful when I needed to take my cats and dogs in for something unexpected. They're actually booked up for quite awhile and have been since COVID but I sincerely hope they will be back to normal availability soon. Highly recommend this place. Especially if you're on a budget.

It took months to make get my request in the google doc because slots fill up so fast since they offer the cheapest price in the area. Also most places don’t spay rabbits.

Please be patient with their scheduling, trust me they will get you in if you just follow the directions and information on the website. Once you do so, they will literally guide you step by step on the process and find the best possible time for you....I am telling you it is worth the wait because the entire process was so easy and I haven't come across such sweet people like them in quite a while. They are worth every penny and more.

Experiencia fantástica: I went to Prevent A Liter for the first time today and it was aaaamaazzzing! I brought my kitten to be neutered. Staff were on time, diligent and extremely kind (I wish I asked for her name). They provided a printed step-by-step walk through of the surgery. I loved this because considering owners are not allowed to come in, it made me feel like I was apart of the process. I love how it’s helpful to both the community and pets! It’s inexpensive and pets will be treated with care (as they should!). Richmond is a beautiful place to explore while I waited for my kitten’s surgery to finish. I normally don’t leave reviews but this organization definitely deserves it plus a 5 star rating. They also take donations so I was happy to give them paté since my cat is picky

Experiencia fantástica: Cannot stress how wonderful of a service PAL provides for the Richmond area. I was fearful I would have to wait months when I found my ~5mo stray kitten. They responded to my form request within 24 hours and had an appointment set for two weeks later. Neutered, de-wormed, vaccinated and micro-chipped for $141. Cannot beat that when my normal vet wanted $130 for the neutering alone!
