Experiencia fantástica: I have been bringing my bunny, Mr. bun, to Wellesley Animal Hospital since 2017 and they have always offered the best care to Mr. Bun! Not only are they caring and compassionate about animals but Mr. bun had a scare last week and Sally, Dr. Elswick, and Dr. Dean offered the best care to him. They took time out of their day to reach out and see how Mr. Bun was doing which meant so much. He is now hopping around as his normal self and I couldn’t be happier. So lucky for an amazing staff at Wellesley!!! Highly recommend! Also, attached is a picture Wellesley took of Mr. Bun for Valentine’s Day

Experiencia negativa: Very few places treat “exotic” pets. So by default we took our leopard gecko to this Veterinary clinic. We were told she had developed a hernia due to attempting to pass an egg and she would not only require hernia repair surgery but an oophorectomy as well. 1200 dollars. Which in reality, we love our pet, so the cost wasn’t an issue as we wanted to save her life. When Dr. Dean went in she reported one of the ovaries was still fused, so they removed one ovary and repaired the hernia but she stated she may require more surgery in the future. Something wasn’t right with her stitches from the get go. We were required to administer SC antibiotics every three days and on one of the occasions our gecko began to leak bloody drainage from her suture site. She had a follow up the next day so we took her in and were told “the stitches look fine”. By week three we thought we were in the clear and she was on the mend. She had a shed on a Wednesday of week three post-op. And the next day her sutures completely opened and her intestines were hanging outside her body. This happened after hours of course. So here we are with this tiny malnourished weak post surgical gecko and NO ONE to help us. My husband drove the distance to Fairfax to gether help but they too had no “reptile specialist to suture her” so all they did was put her in a bandage and sedate her. No sooner did my husband make it home and close his eyes that we got the call that she passed. I will say the Fairfax vet was kind and they did not charge us the 400 overnight fee and he really commended us on the care we had provided our gecko. I write all this to say if a vet office is performing MAJOR abdominal surgery on a pet, they should offer emergency on call for “exotics”. This is absurd and poor practice. Furthermore the post operative instruction are general and vague and do not at all detail comprehensive post operative care for a gecko. Should we have humidified her more to avoid a shed? Something. Some guidance. I feel like these guys perform major surgery, charge a lot, and then offer very little in the post care phase. We will live with the guilt forever that we had this poor creature go through this surgery with hopes to save her life only to have her suffer in pain for three weeks and die anyway.

Experiencia fantástica: My wife and I have been bringing our cats, dogs, reptiles, and hamsters to Wellesley for 6 years now. The level of compassion and care all of our animals have received from the handful of vets we have seen over the years has always been exponential. Nobody compares to Dr. Meaghan though. She was truly meant to be in this field. The care she provided for my senior cat this past year before he passed away was incredible. We were honored to have her help him cross the rainbow bridge recently as well. She went above and beyond and even sent us the kindest letter to our home afterwards which brought my wife and I to tears. Dr. Meaghan is someone we would happily follow anywhere because we know she will always provide the best care for our babies. And a major shoutout to the front desk staff! They are always awesome and always so helpful getting us fit in for any emergencies. The level of care is always top notch and consistent across the board here. Definitely feel confident bringing your pets to Wellesley if you’re looking for a new vet hospital. They are the best.

Experiencia negativa: Took my bird there for foot pain - the veterinarian diagnosed her with psuedo-gout (which is a non-lethal condition), the vet was very professional and knowledgeable Nevertheless they prescribed my bird a lethal dose of tramadol (synthetic opioids) and she died of an overdose. I would advise against trusting them for avian prescriptions

Experiencia fantástica: The best of the best. I had my Guinea pig neutered here. One of my guniea pigs got sick on a Monday, and everyone knows how busy Mondays are. They were slammed packed and they found a way to fit me in the morning. She sadly pasted away, but helped me through the process of everything that needed to be done. Even though this was last December, I never gave them the credit that this team deserves. They are the best of the best, no other. RIP lil top

Experiencia fantástica: Fantastic vets, you can tell they really care. In my experience, it doesn’t seem like they push you to make decisions that would be in THEIR financial interest, rather, what would be the wisest and most affordable plan for you and your pet. My cat had asthma, and Dr.Elswick explored numerous options to help me find the most affordable company to order his inhaler. They kept in touch regarding his illness, frequently texting me and responding promptly to any concerns I had. While he has since passed, I will continue to use this vet in the future. I cannot recommend them enough!

I recently brought in my new puppy and everyone there wanted to meet her! My sweet pup Libby was diagnosed with osteosarcoma. The staff at Wellesley have been amazing - not only making sure she is cared for, but that I am as well.

Experiencia fantástica: So grateful to have a vet as awesome as Dr. Meaghan. Her expertise has helped fix up both of my cats (Chicken and Waffles) through numerous issues. Recently, she treated Waffles’ injuries after he unexpectedly spent the night outside and got in a fight with who knows what. On top of that, she quickly diagnosed and resolved his respiratory infection. Our cat Chicken is only here today because of the lifesaving intestinal surgery she performed when he was just a few weeks old. My pets couldn’t be in better hands.

Experiencia negativa: If we could give a 0 star we would! Firstly, I'll say Dr Kelly, the one who retired was AMAZING! She took the time to get onto the floor and let my dog sniff her and get comfortable with her. As I've learned, not all veye do that! We took both of our dogs in a couple of weeks ago and they just completely forgot to take my older dogs blood (we paid for it) so we had to make an hour round trip to take her back to get her blood drawn. As far as our other big dog....he was very nervous, I'll give the staff that. But never has a vet been afraid of him! They put a muzzle on him when they took him to another exam room, and didn't even bother to tell me that it was put on. Completely unprofessional! When we got home, I noticed a mass behind one of his teeth (only because it was bleeding after we played ball in the yard). This clinic completely missed the mass, and there's literally no way you could miss it if they had even looked. I want the exam fee returned to us, because I am going to have to take him to yet another vet. When I expressed this to Wesley they blew me off and acted like $90 isn't a big deal. I'll say his bill was over $300 and all they did was aspirate a sebaceous cyst to make sure it wasn't cancerous. I have the slightest clue how this visit was over $300 and they didn't even do anything besides the aspiration of a bump on his side. If you're looking for a vet, keep looking bc these people are completely out for your money. We've lived in many states, therefore have had many vets and NONE have cost us HUNDREDS each time we have a vet visit! They didn't even apologize and honestly they did absolutely nothing for us besides make us angry and to not trust just any vet! One more thing to add....the lady who called me, had the audacity to laugh after I had said something to her. Seriously people.....STAY AWAY FROM WESLEY ANIMAL HOSPITAL! You'll just come out broke with no answers! (Added pictures below.... please tell me how a trained veterinarian would miss this?!)

He needs a lot of special care and attention and Wellesley Animal Hospital is always there to provide that, and so much more. The only people who love our rescue babies as much as us are the staff at Wellesley Animal Hospital.

It was my 13-year-old bearded dragon’s time to go, and I’m so grateful for the level of care that was given to her (and to my wife and myself). Dr. Dean, Sally, and all the staff went above and beyond for her and us, even adding her signature kinky tail to her memorial paw prints. They also charged me half of what the other 3 vets I called quoted me. I cannot thank or recommend this place enough!!

Experiencia fantástica: My situation was urgent. Our little 7 year old Havanese had been lame for over a week. Our vet saw her a week prior, x-rayed her, and determined no bones were broken. She was given Rimadyl. I phoned them a week later as I was told because she was still lame. They said they couldn’t see her until the end of the week. That was not acceptable. I decided right then I’d never go back. My neighbor told me wonderful things about Wellesley, so I called them immediately. Although they didn’t even know me, they listened carefully to my situation, and then offered me 3 different time slots that day to bring Joey in! I was amazed. They’d never seen me or our little dog! So my husband drove Joey down for her appointment within a few hours of my call. Dr. Godwin diagnosed our little girl by only an exam! She determined her lameness is from her kneecaps slipping out of socket (luxating patella), which is common in this breed and often requires surgery. We were very impressed with this hospital, Dr. Godwin, the receptionist and their obvious care for all animals and their owners. We’re breaking relationship with the vets we’ve been going to for over 12 years. Our pup and kitty will now be under the expert care of Wellesley Animal Hospital. They are awesome. I’m so thankful for my friend’s recommendation.

Experiencia fantástica: I have been a client at Wellesley for a number of years. I had an appointment with Dr. Meaghan Godwin and I will definitely request her to help with my kitties again. Prior to meeting the doctor, her technician asked me various questions as background for Dr. Meaghan. When the doctor met us, she had read the extensive file of my 14.5-year-old kitty. With her additional training specifically in cat health and wellness, plus her love of cats, she was able to provide helpful and valuable suggestions. I really liked the fact that she understands that cats have unique and special medical care needs. Dr. Meaghan was very gentle in her examination of my kitty and at the same time thorough. I was very impressed with Dr. Meaghan and love the fact that although she loves all animals, she has a special understanding and sensitivity to cats.

Experiencia fantástica: mine and my boyfriends bearded dragon suffered a severe injury in the morning. we called wellesley animal hospital and their earliest appointment was at 4:30pm. after explaining the situation, they told us to come in right away and they would squeeze us in. Sidney almost immediately took him to the back and did an ultrasound and an xray. Dr. Lindsay came in and explained that his sternum/rib was broken, and that we could do surgery, but we knew the surgery would most likely be extremely risky. my boyfriend and i made the decision to put him to sleep. Dr. Lindsay and Sidney were so very compassionate and understanding throughout our entire visit, and made sure that we had plenty of time with him before he passed. the entire staff was extremely supportive and comfortable. although this visit wasn’t what we were hoping for, we felt very grateful for everybody that we were with. thank you so much for everything.

Experiencia positiva: This vet is very expensive. They are nice and professional but I no longer go there because the price is double what you pay at other vets. Also, they don't tell you the cost upfront. Their business model seems to be not to be upfront about pricing and then hope you don't ask about it. There's a lot of competition out there. You can save hundreds by calling around.

All of the staff has taken the time to explain things thoroughly and respectfully and I have appreciated their patience. They get you in quick and are east to work with!

Experiencia fantástica: Both my dogs have been patients of Wellesley Animal Hospital and excited to go for their visits which is rare for a dog to be excited about a vet visit. The care and love the doctors give to my fur baby is exceptional. Dr. Kelly Gottschalk is great with Chudney and he loves his visits. He hesitates to get groomed but never for his vet visits. When my first pet died Wellesley Animal Hospital made a donation to a wonderful organization in memory of my dog. Very rare to see this level of love and compassion for pets.

Experiencia negativa: I have been going to this practice for years for my chinchillas. I had been extremely happy in the past. But, things have just not been the same for me since Dr. KB left. She was always very kind and compassionate and really truly cared. The new low for me is, I just got a bill in the mail for my pet's cremation services BEFORE I even have had my baby's ashes returned... that is in extremely poor taste... they told me I could take care of everything when I come to bring him home. I don't appreciate getting an impersonal bill in the mail before my pet is even in his final resting place...

We have dogs and cats but about 5 years ago we got our first ferret (Eve) for our then 14 year old daughter. About 4 years ago Eve became really sick and we were searching for an exotic vet. Every one we called seemed to be uncaring, unfriendly, and couldn’t see Eve for days. But the receptionist at Wellesley was so kind, thoughtful, caring, and able to squeeze Eve in immediately. No matter when we call we are met with the same genuine kindness from all staff. We love Dr. Dean and everyone there!

Dr. Dean did an excellent and thorough examination and gave recommendations for my three-legged bunny, Koki, Silver Marten. The hospital is beautiful and clean, well run, and the staff was wonderful. Experiencia fantástica: Wellesley has been my trusted ally throughout my late September hiccup with my little Russian Dwarf Tubby and my recent passing of Tubby on 12/13–helping me quickly and with grace get him the care he needed. The team checked in frequently and thoroughly via text and call with rapid response rates. They offered affordable options. Dr Elswick and Ashley at the front desk made my experience the best it could be and I am extremely grateful. I know my Tubby passed with little pain and was given all chances because of the Wellesley team. RIP my little angel <3

I called around 11:10 on Saturday morning and they were able to get us in before they closed at 12! I brought my shih tzu in for a UTI! The ladies at the front desk were super friendly! Sidney and Dr. Leal were amazing and thorough. My baby is on her 2nd day of meds and is feeling better and has returned to her normal self. I cannot thank them enough for their timely and friendly response!

Experiencia fantástica: This is my second stellar review for Wellesley Animal Hospital since my babies have been patients over the many years (starting around the year 2000). My first review was referencing when I moved back to the US from abroad in 2014 with my dog, Phoebe. Everyone kept telling me how urgent it was for me to get her started on a heartworm preventative ASAP! However, after calling around to different vets close to my new home, NO ONE could get her in for weeks. I called Wellesley and explained the situation; they got her in that same afternoon! Now, 10 years later, Phoebe and I are moving out of the country again and needed proper documentation for Phoebe to be imported into our new country. Dr. Dean was the vet that handled everything. She made sure I had all of the necessary paperwork from both the US and my destination country. She kept me in the loop from day one, and was so patient, even with me calling repeatedly to make sure the USDA vet was on top of it. The destination airport required all documents to be in PDF format, and because I lack all tech ability, she was willing and able to email everything to me in PDF so all I had to do was simply forward her email, which was approved overnight. And because I had already disconnected my desktop computer from my printers, she made sure to have printed copies for me to pick up from the front desk. She really went above and beyond her duties to make 1000% sure my Phoebe was prepared to travel. My anxiety was on overload, and this is definitely the most stressful part of my move, as Phoebe is my #1 priority. 5 stars simply are not enough to show my appreciation and gratitude. Dr. Dean, you rock and are a true gem! A heartfelt thank you goes out to you and your amazing staff!!!

They gave him fresh herbs from a garden they have in the back. They’ve followed up on him as well. Knowledgeable, kind and loving staff. Highly recommend!

I left feeling calm and confident in the treatment plan. The vet tech also showed us how to administer liquid antibiotics easily. Everyone we spoke to was very kind, including the front desk staff. I was also able to schedule an appt the same day I called, which was such a relief. Highly recommend this vet for your exotic pets!

And I wanna give my special thanks to dr Ryan for taking a good care of my baby boy . He was so friendly, sympathetic and well caring about my baby . Experiencia fantástica: My german shepherd was diagnosed with cancer at another vet, but they couldn't do the surgery needed for few weeks. Wellsley was able to fit him in right away. Experiencia fantástica: Would like to say thank you to the team at Wellesley Animal Hospital in RVA. When I decided it was time for my Henry to be helped across the "bridge" I called to schedule a time. I think the receptionist's name was Lauren, forgive me if I am wrong, at any rate, she understood how important it was for me to get it done and "penciled" me in for the next day as I requested. So I arrived at 9am, was escorted into the "goodbye room" immediately and given the time to say a final farewell. The tech/aka nurse came in within minutes and told me what would happen next. I asked to be able to pay while Henry was getting his IV, and the receptionist enabled me to do so without going back out into the lobby after Henry was gone. That meant a lot. Dr.Crater was kind and compassionate when she arrived after Henry had been sedated. Nurse Meghan was with her and they both stayed with me, and stood by me as Henry passed in peace and in the utmost kindness. I will never forget the WAH team at a most difficult and sad time for me. Thank you to All.

I am a new parrot guardian to an older parrot who has never interacted with me in a positive way, but i promised to care for him when my sister passed. I did not feel any judgment regarding our situation.. Adding to the previous review for my parrot. I also have a large dog that needed a follow up to an emergency situation. Both the Vet and Tech took time to get to know him and make him comfortable. It was a very positive and informative visit. When both the Vet and Tech got down on the floor to meet him at his level, I knew everything was going to progress smoothly.

I felt comfortable leaving Daisy there to have her procedure. The next day the office staff as well as Dr. Meaghan called to make sure everything was good. I appreciated their concern. One of my guinea pigs, Ruby, saw Dr. Dean for the first time last week. I was very impressed with Dr. Dean as she provided excellent care for Ruby! As always, Dr.Godwin spent a lot of time examining Harry, patiently explaining options for testing and treatment, and listening to my concerns. She’s an extremely caring, skilled, and knowledgeable vet who always goes above and beyond what’s required. She has my full trust and confidence.

Both were very knowledgeable about exotic reptiles and able to answer all my questions. I learned so much from both! Dr Dean eased my worries and was so gentle with my sweet baby.

Dr.Kelly was extremely thorough, even though I brought my 90 lb. male Red Doberman in for an ear check to make sure he didn't have an ear infection. She asked questions about his diet and activity and spoiled him with such genuine love. She ensured all records, shots, and annual exam were updated and entered into the database. The best heartworm medication was explained and he even got a pedicure while being showered with love from 3 individuals at Wellesley! Thank you! Woof Woof!
