Experiencia negativa: I brought my puppy, Ramen, here after she was injured at daycare, and their mistakes changed her life. Despite clear signs of a leg injury, they never performed an x-ray of her leg. Instead, they x-rayed her back, misdiagnosed her, and sent her home under-medicated. Because of this, my dog’s fractured growth plate went untreated for two weeks. When I brought her back, they re-charged me for x-rays — even though their original failure to examine the right area caused the problem in the first place. That misdiagnosis meant she missed the window for a simple surgery that could have fixed her leg. Now, she needs a much more extensive surgery that will cost thousands of dollars more and may not even work. A year later, she is in pain and limping because of their negligence. I would not recommend this veterinary clinic.

I also cannot rave enough about the vet techs and front desk staff. Front desk staff - the kindest souls with the greatest customer service you’ll ever receive. They answer all calls and emails quickly. I ask alot of questions as a first time dog mom with a dog that has had a lot of issues- they are always there to answer all 4738883 questions and help guide me without hesitation. The vet techs are the best - extremely skilled and intelligent (also as kind as can be) , we see them often and I always know he’s in the best hands! Feels like family here. Love river city deep!

Experiencia fantástica: I cannot stress enough just how amazing RCVH is, but I’ll give it a go! Both of my pets were older when I first moved here, and Dr. Anthony and his staff showed nothing but excessive care, compassion, and love for them. They got to know them, appreciated their quirks, celebrated the wins, and felt the losses. I even received a hand written note after my cat passed from bladder cancer and it truly meant so much. They’re extremely attentive, make me feel prioritized, walk through all my questions, and carefully plan and explain treatments. They’ve also been able to save my 13 year old dog twice in 6 months — once after a mast cell tumor removal, the other after diagnosing her with Inflammatory Bowel Disease. She’s now doing better than ever, and every time we check-in Dr. Anthony makes a point to ask “How’s the miracle pup doing?” :) Their social media presence is also very fun, and they recently opened a sister business at their old salon for pet grooming…is there anything they can’t do?! Do yourself a favor and make sure your pet gets the best care here! Edited to add: Did I mention crazy responsive?! They’re expert emailers and get back to all your questions pronto, often with crazy quickness. Their passion knows no bounds!

They not only have a beautiful and very clean facility but they also have the most amazing, attentive, caring, and friendly staff. If I could give them 10 stars I would!! I drive from DC area (a little over 100 miles) because they do such an amazing job and are so patient with me (I’m an overly emotional animal parent - usually more so when I drop off for surgical procedures - and I ask a lot of questions) and they never make me feel rushed, or like I am being too much. Experiencia fantástica: We went yesterday for a check up to address various minor concerns and get some yearly vaccines for our 6 year old pit mix. Dr. Anthony was great and addressed all of our questions while educating us on additional preventive measures we could potentially take to keep our dog healthy based on his breed and the new climate we’re in after recently moving here from up north. He was very personable and easy to get along with and we had great conversations! The vet tech that helped us was also awesome and she helped keep our dog as calm and comfy as possible throughout the visit. They also cut his nails for us, which he never lets us do at home so we are very thankful for that as well. Going to the vet can be stressful for animals and owners sometimes, but everyone that helped us here made sure it was a great experience from check in to check out :)

They are so kind and caring with my dog who normally hates the vet, but does so well here! The doctors are so friendly and supportive. Experiencia fantástica: I brought my dog in today for a dental prophy and a small mass removal from his eyelid margin. He has a history of fear reactivity and can definitely be a stubborn patient. Dr. Miller performed his new patient exam last month and helped him stay relaxed with a gentle, "less is more" approach (and of course, some cheese). His procedure today was performed by Dr. Heather and her licensed technician, Christina. Dr. Heather called me by 9:30a for an update and Christina recovered him shortly thereafter from anesthesia. He stayed for the day to snooze off his drugs and be monitored. He is home now, relaxed but alert, and already happy to be offered his first small post-op meal. Helena and the rest of the front desk staff were very pleasant and made the check-in and check-out process seamless. Definitely recommend River City for any routine general practice care. I appreciated their fear-free approach and handling of my (sometimes sketchy) dog and definitely value their utilization of licensed veterinary technicians to ensure that my guy had a thorough dental cleaning and smooth anesthesia and recovery

They have an app now that allows for ease of prescription refills, appointments for well checks, and are always helpful if you have to call. The bonus is it being about 5 minutes from my house.

Experiencia fantástica: My dog had to have an emergency surgery due to a intestinal blockage and this care team loved and cared for my dog as if he were their very own They gave me a few free sonograms to help diagnose the issue, they weren’t hasty to jump straight into surgery and tried multiple ways of helping my dog before cutting him. Everything they did from care to communication was done with the utmost love and respect for my dog and for me as the owner. The owner Dr Anthony even provided me with his personal email and REQUESTED that I contact him with updates after taking my dog home. I was blown away. I will stay at this vet for my entire life if the quality and ownership stays this way. Thank you so so so much River city.

I switched to River City Veterinary Hospital from another vet practice after months of poor customer service and care for my labradoodle puppy, and to say they exceeded my expectations in routine/wellness care would say the least! ALL of the people at River City are absolutely amazing and we’ve seen multiple veterinarians at this practice! On top of continuing to exceed our expectations with routine care for our girl, River City Veterinary Hospital also spayed my dog just back in September, and now handled an emergency foreign body surgery for my dog this past week, only a few weeks post spay. Dr. Anthony and Dr. Justin handled my dog who was declining quickly with the most compassion and importance. The situation was so tough to be in and continue to be in post surgery and the help of EVERYONE at RCVH and everyone going above and beyond for us, has helped us tremendously. This was a scary situation and I can’t imagine going through it without the help the best, most efficient, and MOST KNOWLEDGEABLE veterinary practice I’ve ever been to! River City Veterinary Hospital is the most attentive, honest, and professional veterinary practice and we are so grateful for them! I can’t say enough amazing things about this place!

Ever since then he’s treated both of our dogs, always with love and compassion. We’ve had to do several surgeries in our 7 years with our pups and each time Dr Anthony has helped guide us, performed successful surgeries and also always provides options knowing how expensive vet care can be. We moved further away 5 years ago but always travel to see him because it’s worth the drive.

Experiencia positiva: Very friendly and attentive staff. The atmosphere is calm and relaxed. There is no smell of dog or cat or that normal smell you get from places who specialize in animal care. My dog seemed to like the staff and the place (she was still very happy to leave though but I doubt that was a reflection of how nice everyone was). However, I found that they are expensive. I use to do almost all my pets care through the SPCA in a different city and they were affordable. So maybe it’s in me for expecting similar prices? Many of River City Vets prices are hidden behind appointments. Wanna know how much a vaccine costs? Appointment first. How about a medication. Appointment. Surgery? Appointment. Many vets are moving towards this. But it would be nice if you could shop around for healthcare. I guess though since the human healthcare system is working so well, then we should just copy the same formula? That way we can maximize profits from the consumer. Wait I’m a consumer? Hold up a minute they are maximizing profits from us. Question for you. Why are vet anesthesia prices higher than what Medicaid reimbursements for humans? How can my little pup demand more cost than someone using a public healthcare program like Medicaid? Like your mom or dad, sister or brother or even that guy from high school that was always a little bit of a creep? Whoops looks like this review has turned into a rant on healthcare costs and the sad reality that vets are trying desperately to copy the same format. So to end this on an up note. Out of what I imagine private vet experiences are like. I liked them. And I’ll probably be back unless I can find an SPCA near Richmond.

Her other eye has a detached retina so she has no sight. Dr. Anthony was with us through this whole process of figuring out what was going on and the best way to proceed. He was incredibly available, present and informative. He and his staff squeezed us in often, seeing us at the very last minute, even if it meant adding more to their already busy days. The surgery with Dr. Anthony went very well, thankfully, with a beautiful, clean incision, but when I went to pick her up at the end of the work day, I left my cell phone in the waiting area, not realizing it. River City called my husband (good thinking!!) but by the time he listened to the message, it was after 7pm and they had closed. I took a chance and emailed them and Dr. Anthony (still at the hospital) called my husband and said he would go on the hunt within the building to figure out where the staff had stored the phone. We called my phone so he could find it. He found it safety put away in a lock box and called us and my husband went and picked it up - all VERY much after business hours. And all very much above and beyond on Dr. Anthony's part. Not only does RCV provide exceptional animal care, they also provide kindness and compassion to humans, too - especially forgetful ones like me! The entire eye treatment process has been difficult and emotional BUT Dr. Anthony came up with a game plan that gave our sweet girl relief and a chance at a some more time with the family that loves her. I have never met a vet who spent so much time with us explaining the options and processes. He really listens and he really cares and peppers his communication with wonderful anecdotes that make you smile and relax a bit. He is a really nice human being, with a good sense of humor and a real commitment to helping! Thank you, thank you, Dr. Anthony and River City Vet Hospital. We are huge fans!

We've been to the vet many times over the last few months establishing care and coming in for different ailments. Every single person we have met who works here has been so nice, kind and patient. We never have to wait for our appointments and never have an issue getting them scheduled timely. Coming from Los Angeles where everything is so rushed at vets, it has been refreshing to have found a practice who manage to find the most patient staff ever. I am constantly calling, emailing and coming in and they always respond promptly and thoroughly. Every vet, tech, front desk staff we have met have been incredible. So glad we found the perfect place to care for our many fur babies!

River City has been caring for my animals for over a decade and I wouldn’t take them anywhere else! They’re not the cheapest vet around, but you absolutely get beyond what you pay for here. And when it comes to caring for my animals that are closer to children than pets for me, that means the world. The staff here has seen me through the new puppy stage to helping me calm my neurotic middle aged dog to having to say goodbye to a cherished senior pet with grace and kindness. They’ve grown immensely over the years from two doctors into a new larger practice with much more staff, however all of that growth has been absolutely seamless on the patient/parent end. They have grown their offerings to having cutting edge diagnostics and therapies at this location that level up their ability to care for our beloved animals. Experiencia fantástica: I don’t even know where to start… I am new to this vet. I called them late one night to inquire about switching vets. I rescue, mostly feral and colony cats so a lot of my babies are in poor health when I trap them and in desperate need of veterinary treatment. My previous vet never saw them as precious little lives that have been neglected, forgotten, dismissed, abused and invisible. They were numbers at the end of a receipt. If their conditions required anything past blood work they would push for euthanasia. One of my rescues had gotten an infection after surgery and when I took her in I was asked “how much is too much with this cat?” “Are you doing this for her or for you?” I begged her to please look at my baby and just see all the life she has left in her. She conceded to give me antibiotics and within a week my cat was running around playing with her favorite ball. That was 4 months ago. If I had euthanized her I would have robbed her of the last 4 months she has spent being healthy and happy. I could go on because unfortunately it only got worse for some of my other trapped cats. I called River City Vet about 10 minutes before they closed and the receptionist that answered showed me so much compassion. She gave me an abundance of information to get started and assured me no vet here would ever see any of the lives I save as worthless. I have been twice now with 2 different rescues and seen 2 different doctors and my experience was amazing. When I left today I just cried and cried from guilt for not finding them sooner and pure joy that I have them now. I took a 17 yr old cat to them (Rascals) and this poor baby has had an extremely rough life. The doctor that saw her never saw a 17 yr old cat. She saw just a beautiful cat in need of some answers. She never mentioned euthanasia as an option. She set up a plan to see if we can get to the bottom of things to hopefully give Rascals a great quality of life for however long she has left on this earth. This Vet is absolutely outstanding. The kindness and compassion they have shown to me and my rescues is unmatched and I am certain it will stay that way. This vet is truly a blessing for me and my babies. I rescue on my own and cover the costs on my own and that in itself is extremely stressful but I thank god I don’t have to stress anymore over the quality of care they will receive going forward. Thank you River City Vet for proving their are still veterinary doctors out there that haven’t become desensitized to the lives and well being of our fur babies.

We learned from the staff that he was going to need to put to sleep as he was suffering so much. This was very hard on our family and the staff was so generous and kind with us. They allowed us to process this hard decision without making us feel uncomfortable or rushed. Thank you, River City Veterinary Hospital, for being such good people to your customers like me!

After CGS's surgery (teeth extractions) George feels like a new man singing a happy tune. I don't know how Dr. E does what he does, but God Bless him (and his team) for doing it. I can't imagine working in such a tiny space (cat’s mouth) and making such magic happen. Keep up the great work!

He has even helped me on a weekend (more than once) when my cat needed an emergency visit elsewhere. When I do come in for an annual exam, nail trim, or something else, he has always been so thorough and caring. I would never take my cat (or future pets) anywhere else but to him and the staff at River City Vet. Thank you!!

Experiencia fantástica: This is the best vet I’ve ever been to. They are easy to talk to, quick to get ahold of, and they always have appointments available. Aspen saw Dr. Erica for her first visit to establish care two weeks ago and she was so lovely! She stayed and talked to us for over 30 minutes to ensure all of my questions were answered. At no point did she rush me or anything like that. Today, Aspen went to a new groomer, and they mangled her quick on one of her nails. It was so deep that when I picked her up and brought her home, it was still dripping tons of blood all over the place. I couldn’t stop the bleeding with a styptic pencil so I called River City. I was so upset over the groomer hurting her so badly and that I couldn’t stop the bleed and I expressed that on the phone. The lady I spoke with was so kind and told me I could bring her in to be seen immediately. So I did. When we arrived, they were waiting for us at the front desk and immediately took her back to a room and got the vet tech. Emily, the treatment manager, was our vet tech. She was empathetic, kind, and understanding. She never once made me feel like I was overreacting to Aspens injury. She took Aspen into the back and had Dr. Heather look at her. They had to use surgical glue to stop her quick from bleeding. She gave Aspen an anti-inflammatory and gave me some supplies in case the hole opens up again, then she sent us on our way. Emily and Dr. Heather were both so incredibly warm and kind. I am so grateful to have found River City Vet and will never, ever take my pets anywhere else!
