Fantastic experience: Have been bringing my dogs to Aztec for over 10 years. There are no other vets in town I would trust like I trust them to take care of my fur babies. Special shoutout to Dr. Bouchet who has been seeing my dogs since they were pups.

Fantastic experience: Dr. Sedam completely changed the health direction for our dog. Our dog has complicated health issues and we’ve seen many many vets. Other vets and clinics had given up on our dog, saying they couldn’t figure it out or do more. Dr. Sedam has been alongside us, determined to help our dog. He is patient, thoughtful, and thorough. The clinic has a calm energy and is excellent at following up and communicating. We are forever grateful for Dr. Sedam and the clinic.

Fantastic experience: Great first appointment with a fresh puppy

Negative experience: My dog had been struck by a car and was in extremely bad shape. This place turned me away and said they couldn't help me. The only reason I gave them 2 stars is because they recommended another vet that took my pets situation serious and saved her life. Aztec Animal clinic doesn't need your business, they prefer recommending other vets. So don't waste your time ..

Negative experience: Dr. Jones gave out mine and my pet’s personal identifying information without my permission as well as gave me another patient’s personal identifying information when I requested my pet’s physical medical records. Dr. Jones begged me over the phone to sweep it under the rug. Only giving a one star because there is not option to give zero stars.

Fantastic experience: Very friendly staff and really helpful. They always try to get you in as soon as possible.

Fantastic experience: Everyone is nice, helpful, and extremely caring. I've taken my pup here since we got him and after a bad experience with another vet with our previous dog. After my experience with Aztec Animal Clinic, I will always be taking my pups here as they are fantastic.

Negative experience: Aztec was my vet of choice for over twenty years. This has changed recently. There's a shortage of gabapentin. Instead of listening when I asked for a different option they tried to make me pay for one third the meds I get at a different pharmacy via theirs. I am allergic to gabapentin and have asked for two years for a different med for my cat's pain and anxiety. I had to fight for two weeks during a shortage to get something else. Options always existed and there was never a medical cause for denying this. Turns out the Trazadone works better for my cat and I don't risk dying to give it to him. The excuses were my being poor, my disability, and I consider the fact my cat suffered for two weeks unacceptable on top of the ableism. I am obviously not coming back. My cat stopped grooming during this period and has a matted spot. I am a Quadriplegic and so I have to hire someone for this. I don't understand what happened to the compassionate care that was once their priority. Now? Ableism and mocking people for allergies seems to be the baseline. Gabapentin is not the only effective medication out there. One would hope a vet would know this.

Fantastic experience: First time patient and it was urgent care. The place is gorgeous and all of the people were both friendly and accommodating. As a same-day, urgent case we did have to wait, but they were apologetic and made sure we stayed updated. They were great with my very skittish cat and she was very calm with both the people and the environment (which is not usually the case). Price for care and meds seemed fair and they did give us options. Great experience!

Fantastic experience: This is a great clinic staffed by compassionate, communicative and cool doctors, technicians, and receptionists. I always feel like we are getting the star treatment when I take my little dogs to this clinic. It's everything a local veterinary practice should aim for; kudos for helping me with my dogs and their sometimes complex medical issues.

Fantastic experience: A couple of months ago (Sept 2025), one of our male cats experienced a serious urinary tract issue. The previous evening I'd taken our boy to an emergency vet (VCA) who gave Dom a shot and sent us on our way with some Gabapentin and directives to call our vet. Our usual vet doesn't take emergency walk-in situations, so the person at VCA recommended Aztec. The following morning, I called their office and explained what was going on and they said to bring Domino in lickety split. They worked him into their busy day and Dr. Sedam went to work right away on Dom, whose bladder was completely full and blocked by this point. Once the surgery was over, Dr. Sedam and crew faciliated Dom's transfer to Route 66 Emergency and Critical Care hospital (and they are amazing, too). Dr. Sedam was very thorough in explaining the diet changes that will need to be made moving forward and that includes a prescription food which contains properties which help with stress. Domino is high strung and that was a factor which directly played into the situation with the blockage. While we have plenty of cat boxes which are cleaned daily, some cats are partic about when and where to do their business. Anybody who has ever had a male cat knows that this kind of thing happens quite frequently to boy cats, and some people may never see this issue in their own male cats. One of the things that I thought was great about this office, was the attention by the front desk staff to cover the cat carrier with a small blanket. Usually I have my own but completely forgot it as I blazed out the door on our way to the clinic for the first time. I think that's a nice touch. I like the clinic... it has a good vibe to it. We have six cats, and I'm going to be bringing them all over to Aztec. Domino and I have had several conversations since this day (like you do with cats) and we both agree that Dr. Sedam, Dr. Jones and the entire staff are absolutely amazing! We are both so grateful. Paws up!!

Fantastic experience: Aztec recently cared for my cat while he was passing from cancer. They were kind, compassionate and non judgmental about the level of care I could afford. I really appreciated how they priced out different treatment options and how gentle they were with me when I came in to put my sweet kitty down. I was able to get appointments with little or no wait time. If I got another pet, I would return to Aztec.

Fantastic experience: I brought my good boy, Howard, in for dental cleaning, tooth extractions, and a mass on his eyelid. Dr. Bouchet kept me informed every step of the way. The vet tech, I forgot her name (sorry!), was kind, caring, and comforting. They really helped calm my nerves about having my boy go under. Excellent and thorough care! Thank you! ❤️ New review 6/13/23: My good boy, Howard, injured his paw today on our morning walk. While we're not sure what exactly happened, Dr. Bouchet fit Howard in to his busy schedule without an appointment. I dropped Howard off and Dr. Bouchet saw to Howard quickly (I expressed concern about him spending the day in a kennel, but was willing to do what I had to in order to make sure Howard was okay), and maybe that was an accommodation to my concerns for my boy or maybe it just worked out. Whatever the reason, Howard was treated quickly and with the same care and concern as always. Howard is doing well this evening! This is why Dr. Bouchet has been my chosen vet for over 10 years. Thank you, Dr. Bouchet. Howard and I love you! Next review 9/10/25: Howard has asthma apparently. Went in to get an inhaler (I thought) and learn how to use it. Tynisha came to demonstrate but I wasn't equipped with the inhaler or the apparatus to use it. Some frustration on both our parts. Tynisha handled it very well, explaining her frustration wasn't with me...just lack of communication. Went home with a prescription for the inhaler and instructions where to buy and how to use it. Kudos to Aztec for pairing me with a tech who has an animal that also has asthma. Despite the mix-up, everything was settled and handled well. I have been going to Aztec for nearly 20 years with all my animals. This is why.

Fantastic experience: I’m incredibly grateful to the staff at Aztec Animal Clinic and especially to Dr. Wilson for the amazing care they gave my dog, Atlas, when he was diagnosed with parvo. They were compassionate, professional, and truly went above and beyond during such a stressful time. What meant the most to me was that they even followed up with a phone call to check in on him once he started getting better. That personal touch really showed how much they cared. Fantastic experience: Was recommended Aztec by a friend and couldn't be happier. Having struggled to get a hold of my previous vet over last year or two I needed a change and everything from location, customer service, communication, to pricing has been great. My dog got a dental cleaning when there was a phone outage and they still made sure they contacted me throughout the day via other methods, and I'm impressed with the follow up via text and email. I really appreciate how you go above and beyond and don't rush things while making it a positive experience for the humans and fur children!

Fantastic experience: By far the best veterinary clinic we’ve been to. Their prices are a bit higher, but the service is great and it’s an independent business and it shows in the care they provide. We won’t go anywhere else.

Fantastic experience: Less than a week after moving to Albuquerque, we had to make the hard decision to say goodbye to our beloved dog, Fozzy Bear. We found Aztec through a google search, and made an appointment. The entire staff and Dr. Armstrong were the most kind, caring, and gentle team I think I've ever encountered in my 30 plus years of being a dog mom. They explained the entire process, and gave us plenty of time to say goodbye. We never felt rushed, and were able to sit with him as long as we needed. They even sent us a sympathy card a couple of weeks later. We will always be dog owners and Aztec will be our vet.

Fantastic experience: I am so glad I found this clinic and Dr. Sadam. They are incredibly caring staff that work hard for you and your pet. I have two rotties (one sweet & one spicy)- Dr. Sadam is very patient with my anxiety ridden fella and doesn't push him too hard on his exams, tests or treatments, seeking the most comfortable way to get through the absolute horror he feels being at the vet office. He takes time to check in and follow-up which shows his dedication to reach resolution despite the treatment difficulty of the health concern one of my boys faces. Fantastic experience: I have been coming here for a few years now for both my dog and cat. They are informative, friendly and their fear free practices have always worked with my dog who has scared aggression. Highly recommend if you need a primary vet for your pets.

Fantastic experience: I moved to NM when my baby was 9yrs (5yrs ago) , Aztec had taken amazing care of her until her last breath. I appreciate the patience and genuine care of the fur babies and the kond & immediate service. Aztec treated us like family throughout her yearly visits & surrounded me with unwavering love as she peacefully transitioned.

Fantastic experience: My little Dorkie doggy, Duffy, (Yorkie and Dachshund) 18, had to be euthanized yesterday at Aztec Animal Clinic. The staff members are so kind, and the doctor was amazing and compassionate! She explained step-by-step what was going to happen during the procedure, and in spite of the pain of losing a beloved family member, the euthanasia process was extremely quick and seemingly painless; not at all what I was expecting. I highly recommend Aztec Animal Clinic if your fur baby is suffering or terminally ill. They also keep your furry friend healthy and happy. You may pay slightly more for some diagnostic tests or scans, but you can trust their doctors to give your pet some of the best quality care available in New Mexico.

Fantastic experience: Have always received great care here. Very friendly staff. Haven’t interacted with a vet I didn’t like. They were immensely helpful when our dog got acutely ill and needed IV fluids and meds for a few days. Highly recommend Dr. Armstrong!

Fantastic experience: After the sudden and devastating loss of my beloved 7 y/o Golden Retriever to cancer 6 months ago, I needed to find a vet for my new 8 week old GR puppy. When I found out that Dr Tatoris left the clinic I used to go to in Bernalillo (which I wasn't happy with - the clinic, not Dr Tatoris - she was amazing!!), I was thrilled to find out that she was now one of the vets at Aztec. Though it's a long drive, I've set up my new boy, Quincy, as a patient. It turns out that he has a rare, but curable, autoimmune condition that Dr. Bouchet, Dr Tatoris and the incredible staff at Aztec have been treating him for. They have handled him gently, lovingly and without causing any fear (8-12 weeks old can be an impressionable time in a puppy's life) and he absolutely loves the vets and techs. Quinn's condition has required several f/u visits and meds, but Aztec has kept costs down for me and I think they're very reasonable compared to other clinics. They haven't ordered any unnecessary tests and have spent more time with us than any other vets and their staff usually spend with pets and owners these days. They f/u with calls and make me feel like I've been going to a vet clinic I've known for 20 years instead of 20 days - that's how much they care!

Fantastic experience: I’m so grateful for Aztec Animal Clinic. My dogs were with Del Norte Animal Clinic for nine years, but when my dog Gertie became seriously ill, Del Norte was dismissive, hard to reach, and treated me like a nuisance for following up. Gertie passed during that time, and I’ll always regret not switching sooner. After her passing, I moved my other dog, Fifi, to Aztec - and the difference has been night and day. From day one, they’ve shown real compassion. Fifi is usually nervous visiting the vet, but Dr. Shafer and the team were so gentle and thoughtful that she relaxed immediately. Fifi recently got sick and the clinic made time for a same day urgent visit, called me to follow up on how she was doing, and responded quickly to concerns (among other things). Thank you, Aztec, you’ve made such a difference and bring me so much peace of mind knowing I can rely on and trust you all.

Fantastic experience: We have received thorough, compassionate, data-driven routine care for our menagerie of animals for a couple years. Today they also squeezed us in for an emergency despite being full booked. So appreciate their care and attention at all times for our furry friends.

Fantastic experience: What an amazing practice! Although I'm a new client, they got me in within the same day when I called to let them know that my cat was sick. Although she's normally aggressive at the vet, they took their time with her, only did the exams she needed most, and let her take breaks to make sure she didn't feel too scared. As a result, she was well behaved! Aztec even called me back the day after the appointment to check in and find out how she's doing. I'm so happy with this amazing level of care! March 2025 Update: Still a terrific vet. I wish my human healthcare was as good as the care my cats receive here.

Fantastic experience: I have taken my dogs and cats to Aztec for several years, years that included the loss of one beloved dog and one beloved cat. I have had excellent experiences with every member of staff. They have treated my animals and me with respect and compassion during some very hard, sad moments. It’s true that there us sometimes a wait, but that’s the trade-off if you want a practitioner who will take the necessary time with each patient, answer questions, and be thorough. For that reason, I never mind if it takes a bit longer than expected. My experience here has set a new standard of vet care for me, and I regret not switching sooner.

Fantastic experience: Three words that I’ll use to describe Aztec Animal Clinic are thoughtful, respectful, and clean. The office itself is clean and welcoming. There are segregated canine and feline waiting areas and my boys, as all cats do, got pheromone laced blankets to keep them as comfortable as possible while they waited. The exam was a breeze. Dr. Armstrong had such a calming presence around the cats. It’s immediately evident that she cares for her patients and is nothing but professional. The checkin and checkout processes were quick and painless. Every employee was kind and respectful. I could go on, but for the sake of brevity, bring your beloved pets to Aztec Animal Clinic.

Fantastic experience: Super positive experience all around. It is remarkably difficult to find a good vet for a frog but this place really knocked it out of the park. If you are looking for help with your exotics, this is the place. 10/10

Negative experience: $546 and I was there with my dog for a checkup rabie shotband bloodwork. they spent about 15 minutes with him. I will never go there again. They have always been very expensive but this time was ridiculous!!!

He was so scared and they did everything to calm him down and gave him incredible care. They were never rough with him or mad. Everyone was friendly. I would definitely be comfortable taking my cats there again or recommending them to anyone with a pet.

Fantastic experience: All staff we have interacted with are excellent and the experience here has always been positive. Dr. Sedam always treats our cats with kindness and takes a lot of time to explain all treatment options for ongoing health issues (such as arthritis as asthma).

We see Dr. Sedan, he is always very attentive, gentle, and professional. Fantastic experience: In the past, I've used Aztec as a backup when I had really sick dogs that my regular vet couldn't see quickly. They're now my go-to vet. The staff are compassionate and they provide timely care. Every time I've called them, my dog has been see that day or the next. The vets and techs take time to explain procedures and meds so you know what's going on. Even when things haven't gone well, I've felt confident that my dogs received the best possible care. This is a great place to get your pet's taken care of.

Fantastic experience: We take all 3 of our dogs here- they’re the best in town. They prioritize both working urgently and managing to not lose great customer service. The vets explain issues to pup parents and take time to have good bedside manner. I never feel rushed out the door here and that makes all the difference when dealing with a sick pet. Fantastic experience: We urgently needed to euthanize our dog a week before his appointment. The staff was so understanding and got us in the next morning. They were absolutely great and very compassionate. I highly recommend this clinic.

Fantastic experience: Aztec is a wonderful business with employees that give the pets a lot of attention and will even follow up visits with a phone call or respond to follow up questions after the visit. Maybe a little pricier than some other local vets but it is highly worth the extra effort they put into their services

Positive experience: Solid animal clinic. They offer a 'feline only' waiting area that really helps ease my cat's anxious fits. Aztec also offers a kind of alcohol spray that is put onto a complimentary blanket that is supposed to calm your cat. After your visit, they give you an invoice that you can then send to your insurance to get some money back. I use Lemonade.

Fantastic experience: I initially chose Aztec because it was close to where I lived. I have now moved to another part of town, but will ALWAYS bring my pets to Aztec because of how amazing their staff is. They are patient with and know exactly how to calm my difficult German Shepherd in addition to being friendly and knowledgeable.

Fantastic experience: Dr.Jones and Asher were absolutely amazing to my very reactive dog. They loved him just as much as we did, and still do, even though they didn't see him super often. We now look forward to bringing our other dog to them, to keep our boys legacy at Aztec going but also so we don't lose such great and caring people. His name was Forrest.

Fantastic experience: We took our sick dog here for the first time when he had to be out to sleep. We were worried that because they didn't know him, the staff would require us to go through another painful round of inspections and questions. However, they were completely wonderful and treated him and us with the utmost compassion throughout the process. They even spent time sending us a personal card with their condolences. Based on my limited but emotionally trying experience, I would definitely take my pets there again and would recommend them to others.

The veterinarians are professional, compassionate, and do their best at highlighting any issue. We've had several checkups and surgeries done here, and every time, I feel comfortable bringing my pets here, knowing they'll be in good hands. Keep up the great work!

Negative experience: I do not recommend here for cats. I saw the reviews on Google so thought it would be a great place to take my cat. They weren't actually sure whatwas wrong with my cat, I suggested perhaps it was cat acne because I had looked up my cat's symptoms beforehand. The vet said he was not sure but it could possibly be, so they gave me an antibiotic and an anti-inflammatory to give to my cat orally with food twice a day. The medication ran out before I was even halfway done with the treatment period the staff had instructed me on. I made sure to do the doses they marked on the syringes. My cat's chin and face got even worse after the medicine ran out so I looked up his symptoms again and other people recommended getting some skin care wipes and keeping his face clean. Making sure his food and water bowls were clean. Aztec clinic told me none of this. They had not once mentioned I should be cleaning his face (which seems obvious I suppose but I have never had a cat with acne before). I was also charged hundreds for his shots but also the visit and medications. I did not feel confident taking my cat back there along with my other cat(who needed shots) so I called around town to find someone else and other offices were booked out for weeks. Aztec sent me a letter in the mail because I did not attend the followup appointment. The letter threatened to charge me $75 if i missed another appointment. (Which dont worry i wasnt planning on returning). They also said in the letter that because of me another animal did not receive the care it needed. It was disgusting to me that they would imply im not getting my cat care. Luckily I got a hold of VCA West Mesa Animal Hospital and they scheduled my cat immediately for the next day. I brought my cat to VCA today and Aztec refused to release my cats records to VCA. Aztec had called me the day before asking for my permission to release my cats records. I told them over the phone I DO give permission the woman said "Okay I'll let them know". Today at VCA the staff was told by Aztec that Aztec could not release my cats records without my signature (I have never heard of needing a signature at any other vet I've gone to). VCA West Mesa was so kind they just decided to disregard Aztec and start fresh on my cat. They really cared about my cats health and wellbeing. I wish i had just gone to VCA from the start so I would not be out the extra money especially since I was laid off from my job and my poor little guy probably wouldn't have had to spend the last month depressed in a cone while I struggled to get him an appointment somewhere else. During that time I also made an appointment at the Cat Clinic but they were booked until July so I was trying to get my cat care. I just didn't feel confident in taking him back to Aztec. 0/10 do not recommend for cats. Update: I am so happy to report after one week of using the ointment VCA West Mesa recommended, my cat is all healed up! No more cone, no more bleeding or crust/acne. VCA even called to check in on my little guy. i have no idea how Aztec has such a high rating. Check out the employee reviews on Indeed and you'll see for yourself how wildly unprofessional Aztec is.

Fantastic experience: They were super accommodating to us when we had a busy schedule. Albeit it was almost overwhelming. New patients and we got a welcome card by them, it was very sweet. Will be going back here as my go-to vet.

Fantastic experience: I had my mom’s cat, KK, spayed at Aztec. Logistically is was tricky. My mom is staying at independent living so my brother had to drive her and KK and I live in Florida but I made all the arrangements. From start to finish the staff at Aztec was great to work with and kept notes of all of this. 5 stars in my book. Thank you Aztec!

Fantastic experience: Trevor's Animal Rescue brought this girl to us back in October. She was found on a reservation and put on the euthanasia list. Her tail had to be amputated at your clinic, but she was her stump with pride! Lainey is loving life in CO. She is gentlest soul, even after all she's been through. She enjoys cuddling with anyone! Thank you for helping her!

Fantastic experience: We found a stray dog in a storm drain in very bad condition. Destini at Aztec took my call and was so empathetic and kind. They were able to get us in and take care of our sweet puppy. Dr. Jones and her team truly love animals and they care for them like they are their own. We can't recommend this place enough. Plus, a bunch of breed/behavior specific info... super nice for a pup they'd never seen, carried by a hooman they never met. Just based on intro staff, they seemed great! Fantastic experience: Thank you so very much for taking care of my grandsons rabbits Fiver and Cream! They had a wonderful visit. I was worried it would stress them out but we got back and they were just as happy as before we left. Fiver has started his pain medication and antibiotics and we will see you back in a few weeks. Creams crazy growing teeth look amazing Dr. Jones! He thanks you! He can eat in comfort now! Fiver thanks you also as we had no idea what was causing his pain! Wonderful care!

They not only communicate they are compassionate with there job they obviously love animals. I also wanna thank the vet techs and Dr Armstrong for taking good care of our baby. Fantastic experience: I’ve been taking my dogs here for over 15 years. They’ve been great. Many vet offices can’t accommodate you if you have an emergency. They refer you to an emergency vet. Rarely has that happened for me with Aztec. our vet and all the staff are friendly and professional. Highly recommend.

Fantastic experience: Huge, busy veterinary practice with 6 or 7 vets. They are professional, prompt and thorough. We drive to Albuquerque from Santa Fe to provide our gang of 4 dogs the best care we can afford.

Fantastic experience: Super nice and caring staff. They were able to get my cat in last minute for an ear issue and called to check on her after the appointment. It's nice that everyone from the staff that checks you in to the vet themselves seems to actually care about your pet ❤️ Update: our cat sadly passed away from cancer a few days ago. They worked very hard to get her in and keep her healthy. When she passed in her sleep at home they got us in right away to coordinate cremation. We'll be bringing our future kitties here for sure as the staff all clearly care about our pets.

Fantastic experience: Dr. Schaefer really understands the importance of a kid's pet! They understood that this wasn't just about a little animal's life, it was also my son's mental health. I can't say enough good things about this clinic and Dr. Schaefer in particular. Our small exotic pet had some unusual and unexpected complications, and they really went above and beyond to make sure she was ok. This pet is now going to live a happy long life with my son because of their incredible compassion and competence.

Fantastic experience: We have been taking our kitties to Aztec since it was recommended by a former Vet Tech of thiers. We love them. They are efficient, honest and really care for our furbabies. Would definitely recommend them to anyone looking for pet care!

Positive experience: Giving 3 stars because I did feel the vet was knowledgeable and thorough. I called ahead to ask if vet could perform a specific dental procedure on my rabbit, and was told they could. After waiting over a month for first available appointment and taking off work to drive 2 hours one way, I was told the receptionist was incorrect and they couldn’t do the procedure because they didn’t have the right equipment. I had other concerns about my rabbit so went ahead with the appointment anyways. Upon checkout, I found out a procedure I got done was $70 more than I was told it would be. When I asked receptionist why I was given the wrong price, her response was “I wasn’t in the room”. I was not trying to blame her personally, but to let her know so they can communicate better with each other and give the right info next time, but the response didn’t indicate any interest in fixing anything. More misinformation and honestly, I should’ve been given a discount for getting such wildly incorrect information that was the main reason I booked the appointment in the first place. I’ll be coming back because it’s difficult to find a decent rabbit vet in this area, but to say the least there is room for improvement.

Negative experience: Good doctors. Terrible front office. Was moving out of town and had a final checkup for my dog. During this visit I asked multiple people and managers to ensure all my bills and charges had been covered. They assured me multiple times everything was fine. 2 years later they send my account to collections due to "outstanding charges". They're a joke.

Fantastic experience: These peeps are amazing. I been taking my kiddos here for Many years and because there are so many awesome people that work there, A nice lady was able to take my chameleon and give him a great home. Also im forever grateful for there cremation services. I trust this place with my kiddos (Scrappy- Teddi Rozco- Siruz - Nami- Kaya-)

Negative experience: No. Imagine the economy being so bad, that I cannot even afford tape for the box I'll need to bury my pet. This vet could have helped and saved my beloved pet, if they offered a payment plan. You fix her up, do whatever it takes to save her, I will make sure you are paid every penny you ask for. The love of my life lays motionless on the kitchen floor, waiting for death. As do I.

Fantastic experience: I posted the following before, and it still holds true: "We have never had anything other than the best care for our animals in the almost 9 years we have been using Aztec Animal Clinic. We love and appreciate all of the amazing Doctors, Technicians, Assistants, and Front office personnel. Everyone is prompt, professional, friendly, but most important of all, every single person we come into contact with is so caring towards our pets AND towards us owners. We love you Aztec!" Since the last time I posted, our senior kitty cat passed away. Despite it being one of the worst days ever, everyone at Aztec supported us and made sure that her passing was treated with care, respect, and dignity. I will always hold on to the kindness that everyone showed me and my cat that day.

Fantastic experience: Very professional staff and extremely knowledgeable! We have a rare dog breed, Swedish Vallhunds, and they made sure they researched them prior to our visit. The staff is always very friendly and professional! We no longer live in Albuquerque, but I would recommend them to anyone in that area!

Fantastic experience: I saw Dr. Donnelly for a prescription emergency. They were able to get me in last minute and Dr. Donnelly really understood my situation which put me at ease. Vet tech, Lindsey, was phenomenal as well. Great service, friendly and will definitely establish care here for future visits.

Negative experience: I am very disappointed in the veterinary care I recently received at Aztec Animal Clinic. I have been a longtime client at this clinic and have received good care over the years but something has changed. The care I’ve been getting lately for my dogs feels more like expensive well-care and is not what I am seeking for my dogs. I can’t help but notice lots of staff changes lately. I am writing this review in hopes that Aztec will make positive changes toward improvement in client service delivery. I recently had a sick dog whose first symptom was chronic diarrhea. The wait time between appointments, test results, and communication was unacceptable. After weeks of trying various things and waiting for test results, I was referred to a specialist. Not knowing it was an overloaded specialty practice, I had hopes that the specialist would diagnose the problem quickly. Initial test results run at the specialty clinic showed deterioration but no immediate diagnosis was forthcoming. All this time, my dog continued to physically decline. No one acted as if she was urgently sick. I felt very anxious during all this waiting and watching her get worse every day. However, I thought this was still the fastest path to success for her because Aztec knows her and had done all the testing to rule out obvious issues. She was now in the hands of a specialist! My dog died 7 weeks after the initial vet visit. No definitive diagnosis was completed and certainly nothing was provided to make her well. I suspect she died in pain. This is what I wish had happened. The veterinarian would have recognized how sick she was. The veterinarian would have triaged my dog appropriately for the dog, not for the veterinary practice. Once the first possible diagnosis turned out to be a dead end, the veterinarian would have stopped the treatment and collaborated with others (including colleagues inside and outside of the clinic) to develop an alternative diagnosis. Veterinarians at the clinic would have teamed with each other to continue diagnosis and treatment because there is an urgently sick dog at the practice. The veterinarian would have known that the veterinary specialty clinic was overloaded and not referred us since she was too sick to wait. When a dog is sick or declining, the situation calls for more attention. Messages relayed and a 24-48 hour callback are not working for sick dogs. After this experience, I have to make a change. I need more than well-care and testing services at my veterinary clinic. I need a practice that will work the hard diagnostic problems as well. So I am leaving this practice, hoping to get better support for my next sick dog. I still grieve for my girl. She deserved better.

Negative experience: I'm very sad to say that we have left Aztec as our primary vet due to mostly communication issues but also a sort of misdiagnosis. They were good at first but I would consider them lower than average now. Over the past year, my pup has had a plethora of odd issues regarding bowels, vomiting, and an injury. Scheduling appointments has always been easy with a quick turn around. The follow up calls after the visits are what we had the most trouble with. I would be told one thing at the clinic only to hear a different thing about when/if a follow up call will be done. When a call wouldn't happen when I expected, I would call the clinic to be told it was on the books for days later. There were numerous follow up calls that weren't updated in the system with the most updated information that was given to the clinic. One example, they would ask about vomiting but I told the clinic days ago that the vomiting had stopped almost a week ago. Or they would ask about something unrelated to the reason I asked for the consult call. The final straw for me was when my dog injured her foot. The doc did xrays and said she didnt know what the problem was so she told me to wait it out to see if it heals itself. 1 week, 2 weeks, 3 weeks went by and there was no progression in healing so they told me that she might just be disfigured for the rest of her life and to move on. They said there was nothing they could do other than exploratory surgery. This was a cold response to an already terrible performance from the doc and nurse. So I made an appt with an orthopedic specialist at a different clinic. The new clinic requested the old xrays from Aztec but they never arrived so they had to take new images costing me unnecessary money. The doc quickly told me thay my dog had ruptured her flexer tendon from her toe but she gave me options. Tendon repair surgery which was now unlikely to work because the wound was so old and had too much scar tissue or symptom management until amputation might be necessary. In a sense, symptom management also means she will be deformed forever but at least this doc gave me options and reasoning behind it. I'm so angry that Aztec blew off my concerns and waited for so long that surgery would no longer be a good option.

Fantastic experience: I have been taking my pup to Aztec for two years and couldn't rave about them enough. Dr. Jones is compassionate, honest, and hilarious. The way they work with my dog makes me and my pup feel very comfortable, to the point that my dog didn't want to leave even after a blood draw and vaccine. When my dog had a bigger issue, they were quick to offer a referral for a specialist to get a second opinion. I am also a first time dog owner and they always answer my silly questions with a smile. Thank you Aztec!!

Fantastic experience: I just completed my first appointment with Aztec for my 2 year old Yorkiepoo, Charlie. Dr. Sedam was soft spoken, gentle with my pup, informative with me, and very thorough answering my questions, pertaining to both Charlie and their clinic, prices, etc. The tech I had was Lindsey. She was amazingly engaged with me and Charlie. He responded to her like he had known her his entire life. Whined when she left the room. Additionally, Lindsey spent an abundance of time interacting with me, addressing all my concerns, asking questions about how I was doing, and showed a true passion for her work and it’s affect on both her human and furry clients. I am a very good read of character and both Dr. Sedam and Lindsey showed nothing but the utmost care, compassion, and concern. And lastly, the prices were very reasonable. I am incredibly pleased with Charlie’s new health providers and would recommend them to anyone looking.

Fantastic experience: Aztec Animal Clinic is wonderful! I have brought my animals here over the years and my parents have as well. All of the veterinarians (really miss Dr. Matek) and staff are great! In regards to pricing, their prices are fair based on the average cost of veterinarian care. They are not a low-cost clinic, so I believe some people that are used to low cost clinics are shocked when they find out the normal price of veterinarian care. If they are not accepting new patients, there is a national shortage of veterinarian care. It's not the fault of the Aztec Animal Clinic staff or the business itself.
