Fantastic experience: Had to take my old man (cat, 19 years old) in this morning to check on some respiratory distress that ended very unfortunately in him being put down. The team took excellent care of us, and I couldn't have asked for a kinder experience all around. Pricing was fair, and I will definitely be back with my other animals for care.

Fantastic experience: This week I brought my precious doggy to receive urgent care for an extreme GI upset (with some more graphic symptoms I will omit). Dr. Greg and his staff were 10/10 and 5 stars. They were so kind, patient, transparent and all the things you need in those scary and stressful moments of being a pet parent. Dr. Greg personally followed up with me over the next two days following our visit. We just recently moved to the neighborhood and will be happy to continue working with UAH for future vet needs. Fantastic experience: I have been a client for over a decade. I have almost given up last year because I kept getting appointments with a doctor who I found to be kind of arrogant, but when I made my appointment last week I found that she was no longer there and we got to see Dr. Sullivan. Fantastic experience: I called in a panic after my cat’s eye swelled up out of nowhere. Diane at the front desk was so kind and soothing, immediately helped me calm down, and went to check if the doctor could see us with only 90 minutes until they closed. The doctor said if we could get there quickly she’d make time, and true to her word, we were in an exam room 30 minutes after my first worried call. Everyone was so gentle with my cat and understanding of how afraid i was. The bill was explained clearly and I felt the pricing was very fair. I will always bring my cat to such kind people.

Negative experience: I had brought my dog here for about 15 years it was shocked when the receptionist promoted to manager or something give me a hard time because I didn't want to give my elderly dog a full dose of trazodone because I had told them it makes my dog to unable to walk. She put me on the phone on hold while she went to ask the vet and then quickly came back and said if you don't do what we tell you to do we will not see your vet when I am telling them my dog cannot handle that dose. I got angry and said that I will treat my dog the way I want to treat her and what I know is best for her and she proceeded to tell me that I terrorize the clinic and she has to protect her staff from me. This is because I refused to listen to the horrible doctor Whistler who told me my dog needed $10,000 mouth surgery for her teeth when all she had was a bump on decided her face what's someone said I can make soft with hot water compresses and then it bust not too long after that and it turns out she never needed the dental surgery. I didn't want to see him anymore because when I came to see him again for a follow-up appointment I said I just don't understand what's wrong with that side of her face while it's swollen like that and a bump and he said rudely and kind of sending me you know exactly what's wrong with her I told you. After that I didn't want to see him anymore and then the receptionist manager said you don't even want to see our dentist. And I was angry because one time they charged me for a urinalysis and then they lost the urine and didn't even tell me about it but I noticed the test results never came in and when I confronted him about it they spent a few hours trying to find it. I told him I didn't want to see them anymore because they were careless they were rude and my favorite reception is there Caleb because I think he couldn't stand them that's what I heard. I'll never go back there again they're not competent. I switched to blum animal hospital but then after they gave my cat silencia for arthritis and then she died I never went back there again because they prioritize just like uptown animal hospital does profits over paws

Positive experience: I have been going to this animal hospital for about 25 years. Recently if was bought out by a larger corporation and things have changed a lot. The prices have definitely spiked. I also went in to get some dog vaccinations, and while the staff and the technician were exceedingly helpful and very nice, I wanted to ask a question of the veterinarian. I was told that would probably cost significantly more. It was a simple matter and probably would have taken less than a minute but evidently the veterinarians feel their what time is so valuable that they don't have time to answer a simple question or say hello. I haven't found a better alternative yet but I am sad the hospital that I went to for so many years has changed so much.

Negative experience: I have always loved Uptown Animal Hospital. I moved here from another vet and have always felt that the vets and vets assistants have given my dog the superb care that o came to associate with my visits. So today’s review comes as a surprise. The way that the vet’s assistant restrained my dog and did not read his body language was incredibly troubling to me. They physically restrained him so he couldn’t move and aggressively manhandled him. My incredibly calm and friendly dog was yelping, struggling to escape and traumatized by the visit today, which is very out of character. As I said, this has never been the case with uptown animal hospital before, so that is why I feel the need to post about this visit. I strongly considered finding a new vet after this experience, and was very troubled by the treatment of my pet. I am still going to continue to bring my pet here, but hope that someone from the operation will read this and work to resolve the horrible experience we had today.

Negative experience: All vets I've been to function like this: 1. There is a consultation. 2. An *itemized* quote is provided. 3. I sign the itemized quote. 4. My pet is treated. 5. I pay for the service, not exceeding the quote. What has happened to me here: 1. I came in for a nail trim and gland expression. 2. I was upsold a lot of tests, which I understand. 3. My pet was checked by the vet. 4. I got a lump sum quote: "That'll cost $460." 5. They took my dog into the back for additional tests/services. 6. They bring him back and tell me they weren't able to complete all the tests. 7. The bill came out to over $600. They weren't able to render all services AND weren't able to provide me transparent pricing. They allegedly forgot to include one of the tests in the $460 bill, but that's *exactly* why you must provide an itemized quote in writing. We would've been able to spot that a service was missing. They also brought a pee cup to me and asked me to return it with urine within 14 days. I don't have time for that, and nowhere during the consultation was it explained to me that this may happen. The techs are nice and all (hence 2 stars), but it doesn't cover up the fact that this practice is inherently dishonest. I won't be coming here again unless this is addressed. I talked with the receptionist, and she says she'll discuss it with her manager. I'm sure she's just doing as she's told, but this isn't the right way to do this. I will update my review if this is addressed properly. 10/5/25 update: Over two weeks have passed and I have not been contacted. Reducing to 1 star. Disappointed.

Negative experience: Completely unacceptable and unprofessional business practices. I scheduled a nail trim for my cat over a week in advance and they called TWO minutes before the appointment to tell me that they could not take my cat because she had not had an exam with them for over a year. I had sent in her updated vaccination records from her new vet and offered to send in records of her yearly exam from her new vet but was told they require a new yearly exam from THEIR practice to maintain “an active patient relationship”. I spent money on transport to bring her in and it is ridiculous that they did not tell me she needed a new appointment until minutes beforehand. They offered to have a vet perform a new yearly exam later that day but would not waive the cost. I am extremely disappointed for the level of carelessness and disregard they have for their customers. Don’t bring your animal here and go to a vet that cares.

Negative experience: Over the past two decades, I have consistently utilized this veterinary clinic for my animal care needs. However, I have observed a gradual decline in the quality of services provided. The clinic’s staffing model is problematic. Veterinarians rotate among different locations, resulting in inconsistent care for individual pets. This practice is not justified by claims of a shortage of veterinarians, as there have been instances of experienced veterinarians retiring simultaneously in recent years. Furthermore, the office manager, Elizabeth, and the office manager, Linda, exhibit concerning behavior. Elizabeth condenses information and lacks the necessary expertise for the position, while Linda engages in dishonest practices with clients. The reasons for the continued employment of these individuals remain unclear. I am concerned about the treatment of pets behind the scenes, as their behavior mirrors their interactions with clients. It is not an isolated incident; I have heard from many of their clientele who have also left the clinic due to similar concerns.

Negative experience: DO NOT believe all of these reviews. They compensate customers for writing reviews. This clinic has not been the same since they were bought out a couple of years ago - other review sites will attest to this. I will share facts - Our dog went in for an annual physical with no issues other than a small open sore on her foot that wasn't bothering her. Doctor said she would need to come back for surgery. When I protested that was severe, she offered to do a biopsy which turned up nothing. The doctor performed the ENTIRE annual examination in another room without having me present to question and discuss while the examination took place. It will get worse... The same doctor mandated our dog where a gigantic cone for two weeks to not lick her wound. When I said that sounded extreme she said it was the ONLY thing that would prevent it. Our dog cried the entire walk home. I decided to simply bandage it with good tape. Wound healed. Doctor prescribed an antibiotic that after a week turned our dog's stomach raw and had her pooping blood for a week. Really. Then there is the entire pharmacy scam. Initially they claimed our dog had a parasite. I went in to get the medication, panacur, and they said it would be $300. It was available without prescription online for $40. The antibiotics that almost killed our dog were $90 versus $45 online. And the cream was $50 versus $15 online. But here is where the frustration starts to drive you crazy - Before they were bought out, any online pharmacy could call and they would confirm over the phone. Now they cite some nonsense claims that they no longer can do that. So you either pay their absurdly high prices or you need to mail in your prescription and wait a week for your meds. Why not 1 star? Well, the front desk is exceedingly nice and there was one doctor, who was not the original doctor, and his name is Dr. Sullivan. He was great. But unfortunately a little bit too late.

Fantastic experience: We’ve been coming here over 20 years. All the original staff and drs have left but the new people here are still amazing. So friendly and warm and clearly lovers of animals. My dog is always so happy when we come as he gets so much love. The cats aren’t as enthusiastic, but they get the same warm treatment nevertheless. Never feel pressured to add on services. Fantastic experience: this is the first time i’ve ever been to a vet in my life and they were so accommodating and patient with Shay. She’s an older gal that’s not had a lot of veterinary care y previous owners in the last 7-8 years so the tender love and care the vets showed was super reassuring.

Fantastic experience: This is a wonderful place when your pet is hurting. The staff is extremely empathetic and thorough. They treat your pet like their own pet. My senior cat doesn’t agree with me but she’s an extremely unreasonable patient. If only she could read this.

Fantastic experience: So many vets play on emotions fear based to try to get you to overspend on your beloved pet. I find this care compassionate and reasonable. I was able to pick and chose the most necessary treatments for my dog without being quilted into unecessary procedures or added costs. The compassion for my little old lady pup who is deaf and blind was exceptional. Old school vet with AI and awesome vet techs.

Negative experience: If you care about your pets and basic human decency, avoid this clinic! The front office staff is so consistently rude and unpleasant that it calls the entire practice into question. Staff behavior reflects leadership. If this is who the doctors choose to represent them, it speaks volumes. Olivia and Ella, in particular, were openly hostile and condescending. It's unsettling to imagine how they treat animals when they can’t even manage respect or composure with the humans responsible for them. I was told my dog’s prescription was “ready for pickup.” When I arrived, no one could find it. Instead of apologizing or resolving the issue, I was subjected to a lecture by Ella about how “ready for pickup” doesn’t actually mean ready. Meanwhile, I was told I’d have to wait 45 minutes for the doctor to finish and sign it. Then, of course, another staff member finally found it—misplaced and already prepared. No acknowledgment of the error, just finger-pointing. Even worse, they began blaming each other right in front of me. Watching staff members throw each other under the bus to a client is not only unprofessional, it’s deeply embarrassing—for them and for anyone choosing to trust their pets here. When I called earlier to request a small adjustment to the prescription—because the dosage wasn’t available at my pharmacy—Olivia refused to pass the message to the vet and made it clear I wasn’t “allowed” to request a conversation with the doctor. She cut me off, talked over me and made what should have been a simple ask into a completely avoidable conflict. This isn’t just bad service. It’s a culture problem. A vet clinic that treats people this way shouldn't be trusted to care for animals. There are plenty of practices that manage to be kind, organized and competent. This isn't one of them. It’s time to stop rewarding unkindness with our business!

Negative experience: This practice has grown significantly worse since it was sold in 2022. Dr. Tyler, who was kind, knowledgeable, willing to listen and happy to educate, retired soon after the practice was sold. So I began to see Dr. Whisler, who then retired last June. The website now lists 2 vets, Dr. Sullivan and Dr. Schnitker, who does not come up at all when you try to make an appointment online. I made an appointment to see Dr. Sullivan a month in advance and was asked to change it twice, once on the morning of the appointment. I complied both times, but when I arrived, the vet who came in was Dr. Meraz, who I'd never heard of. She did not introduce herself to me or the dog, never smiled or asked me any questions about my dog, and the only part of the exam I saw was her palpating his stomach, looking in his ears, and looking at his teeth. My dog was taken back for a blood draw and apparently had the rest of the exam back there, but I was told nothing. No feedback as to my dog's condition - good or bad. I asked for a heartworm test but paid for the entire 4Dx tick screen and was not informed that was happening. I was supposed to get a call or email for the result the next day but did not. So I had to call to get results but Dr. Meraz didn't call me back until after the practice had closed for the day. She informed me my dog had tested positive for a tick borne disease but didn't explain what that disease was (viral, bacterial, parasitical), how it would affect my dog, and what it meant that he showed absolutely no symptoms. She only told me the next steps for diagnosis, which was a CBC (which I'm assuming is about $200 now) I know it is to find out if it's an active infection affecting the platelets or merely antibodies from a previous exposure but which she did not tell me this. Last year, when I asked only for heartworm testing, it was $73. So I called today to find out if a complete exam of my dog was done (albeit out of my sight in the back) by asking what his temperature was (it was normal). I then asked to speak to the clinic manager. I waited 1 1/2 hours for a return call but didn't get one. I called back and the manager was busy explaining but not really listening to me. Apparently the heartworm test is now almost as expensive as the heartworm/tick test, so they just do the 4Dx - but they don't tell the clients that and no one bothered to inform me of this at the appointment. I only asked for a heartworm test. The vet didn't say anything about my dog's weight gain (I talked to the tech who was very kind and actually answered my questions) nor his body condition. The manager said they only tell you if there's something wrong with your dog! I know from extensive research that if a dog tests positive for Lyme's, ehrlichia, or anaplasmosis, but is asymptomatic, treatment is not recommended, which is the reason I do not ask for tick testing. The manager never apologized for any of the issues I brought up, but kept trying to explain why they do it this way. This is not encouraging and I very much doubt I will be bringing my dog back here.

Negative experience: I changed my star to one i would give zero if I could I was coming here for many many years I had always had my dogs come to this vet hospital but no more I had my chihuahua that was extremely ill she had lumps in her throat loosing weight diarrhea I had a feeling going in what was going to be her diagnosis I'm at no means a veterinary doctor when I came in for my visit the doctor that diagnosed my dog had to know herself or had suspicion they had us get blood work and an a biopsy which I figured they were going to do and then proceeded to tell me she needed xrays I didn't quit understand why she needed that expensive test when it was obvious she has lymphoma cancer she didn't need an x-ray they were just having me spend unnecessary money on my very sick pet not thinking at the time I agreed to it and we were giving a bottle for a stool sample which I never used but was charged for it I got a call from the vet very non caring like she was getting the call out of the way telling me my dog was dying of cancer with no care in her voice my 14 year old chihuahua daisy died a week later these people didn't follow up with any phone call to see how she was doing there just there to get as much money from you as they can they even charged me a senior check up for her why?they knew as soon as they checked her throat what it was shame on you I have another chihuahua I have not gone back here since I am now at a different vet and would never recommend this place the doctors they have now don't care about your pets only money I had been coming here for 13 years but no more

Fantastic experience: Always great care and compassion by the entire staff. Dr. Sullivan loves our dogs almost as much as we do. The reception desk staff and the technicians all, without exception, are caring, compassionate and helpful.
