Fantastic experience: We've had two of our cats' teeth cleaned here, and it's gone very smoothly each time. No complaints. Prices aren't low, but they're pretty average for a vet these days.

Fantastic experience: I have been going to Portage Park Animal hospital for a number of years. All my dogs have been here, staff is always friendly and wonderful and the doctors are amazing! Especially Dr. Tremlova! We love everyone at Portage Park!

Fantastic experience: The staff is friendly and helpful. I go here once a month for my 1 dog to get a shot she has anxiety with her Addisons disease and they are always friendly and helpful. We usually see Dr. Robinette but all the Doctors have been great. I like that they send text message reminders of your appt. I recommended to my daughter to bring her 2 cats here and she liked them as much as I do.

Fantastic experience: Portage Park Animal Hospital is top notch. Every single person I spoke with seemed to care about my pupper (and me) and genuinely went the extra mile to make me feel better about the situation. I had not made an appointment in a while, and when I called in to check price, I was meet with an offer to reschedule sooner to ease whatever discomfort my pupper was in. Seriously, cannot possibly say enough positive things about this hospital.

Positive experience: The staff is fantastic. I would only argue about the business practices set forward by the management and medical director. Lots of pushes for high cost treatment and in-house care, poor pacing for emergency situations that often wittle down to how much money you have in your pocket. There are easily more comforting ways to convince a client, educate and push about plans or systems that could fit in their budget to provide their patient with better quality care of life. I don't think there is a universal, selfish mentality that animal care should be made up of freebies and discounts. But rather taking more time to discover all options instead of jumping to the most affordable (likely temporary) resolution that may hinder the patient's recovery anyway. It seems like a machine that wants to filter out the lowest bidders sometimes.

Fantastic experience: Dr. Kate was awesome as well as the staff. Everyone is friendly and compassionate and every area is pristine clean. Dr. Kate is great, knowledgeable and experienced in her field. I adopted Dr. Kate as my new veterinarian, I’m looking forward to introducing my 2 other pups to Dr. Kate, she is a keeper and the very best. I walked away absolutely pleased. Thank you Dr. Kate and staff for the awesome experience.

Fantastic experience: My childhood best friend used to bring her dog here. Now I bring my pup, and I'm glad I do! The staff is kind, friendly, and professional. They truly treat you and your dog with the utmost care. They listen, they're thorough, and they take the time to address any concerns and explain results. Their prices are also very reasonable. I trust them to provide care for my dog who means the world to me!

Negative experience: Rude front desk, and unaffable docs. Dr. Schwartz points out a single epulis on 1/13/26 during the rabies vaccination. Dr. Wilde administers bordatella/distemper/lepto (2/2/26), and I ask her to check the epulis again to see if I should have them surgically removed. Apparently there are four epulides, not one, which is news to me. Sizable, so it's clear that the other three didn't appear in ~two weeks time. Off to the front desk as instructed to schedule the surgery, and procure my estimate. Rude lady #1 (RL1) rattles off dates, and I select 3/6/26 for the surgery to remove the epulides. However, she tells me I'll need to wait a couple of *weeks* at least for just the estimate. I'm perplexed, so I calmly and rationally pose several queries in an attempt to understand why I need to wait *weeks* for simply the *estimate.* Surgeries are expensive, and as such, planning is quite obviously necessary. Apparently, that didn't sit well with RL1, so now an insouciant attitude commences with alacrity. In the middle of this unpleasant conversation, Dr. Wilde tells her that she charged me twice as much as she should have, and now RL1 has to issue a refund. As my luck would have it, she doesn't know how, so the other two front desk ladies get involved; one to teach her how, and the other to learn herself. Once that's over, I calmly and rationally circle back around to attempting to understand why an *estimate* will take *weeks* because she still hasn't explained the reason to me, and I'm flummoxed. RL2 (the one that didn't know the refund process either) found it necessary to interpose herself into the conversation by telling me with an unbridled supercilious delivery that they put a note in my file to provide the estimate soonest. Ostensibly, it wasn't obvious to the front desk crew that since I wasn't told that that had been done, I'd have no way of knowing from the other side of the desk. Oh, and it gets better. The refund takes "3-5 business days," which RL1 never mentioned. I had to call back after returning home to figure that out. Extremely perplexing how my payment is debited from my account absolutely instantly, but the refund takes days. Am I earning interest? After obtaining neither answers, nor my money, RL1/RL2 don't even say "thank you," "have a nice day;" nothing. Complete silence after I've been overcharged, and treated with disrespect for calmly and rationally drilling down on the reason why an estimate takes so long. I STILL haven't the slightest clue as to why. Perhaps there is a valid reason, perhaps not, but there *must* be one. Alas, it's still a mystery. This is only my 3rd or 4th visit since moving to this neighborhood, and in my personal experiences, there is a palpable negative energy in that place that I experience every single time I go. Every time. Friendly, informative, and competent interactions with clientele appear to be optional based upon my experiences. I do not recommend this place. At all.

Fantastic experience: We had such a great experience at this vet office. The space was spotless, welcoming, and calm from the moment we walked in. Every single staff member was incredibly friendly and kind, which made the visit feel easy and stress free. Dr Paige was amazing with BonBon. She was gentle, patient, and clearly cared about making BonBon feel comfortable. BonBon absolutely loved her, which says everything. We left feeling confident, supported, and so happy to have found a vet we trust. Highly recommend!

Fantastic experience: I've taken my cat and dog to Portage for a few years now. The service and kindness is remarkably appreciated. When my cat had to be put down, they sent a card and were incredibly empathetic and professional. This week I took my dog because she wasn't pooping and was in pain. I felt heard as I advocated for my beloved dog, and they took the time to answer my questions and let me ramble. I recommend Portage Park Vet to anyone and everyone. They are professional, clean, empathetic, and respectful about options of care. I wish I'd taken names, but everyone from the reception to doctor have been nothing but excellent. When I needed to give medication to my dog and forgot peanut butter, one of the admins gave me some of hers. That's caring!

Fantastic experience: I came in with my dog after what I presumed was either a stroke or seizure. I was a mess. The vet and techs were increasingly kind and caring. The vet got down on the floor and sat with me while she explained next steps. She made multiple phone calls to other offices in the area looking for a neurologist and explaining my dog’s case. Even though I have since moved to the suburbs, I continue to make the drive back here for this very reason.

Negative experience: The care received was fine, but they are incredibly sneaky about prices and get curt when you try to work with them about it. We were given a quote that then tripled by the end of our visit. They will try to send you home with medication from in house, but we had to insist on getting prescriptions instead which brought the price down significantly but still not the original price we were told. Vet tech was also seemingly very upset when we were asking for prescriptions instead of being sent home with in house medication which just makes me question the integrity of this practice. Ask for prices at every given opportunity and don't take any of their in-house medications.

Fantastic experience: A great experience as always! My wife and I have gone to Portage Park Animal Hospital with our cats for over twenty years. It is bright, open, colorful, and clean, with free parking right in front. The veterinarians there are always very professional, knowlegeable, and friendly, and they give very thorough and caring checkups and dental care. This past time there was to get our cat Flynn ready and certified to fly to Brazil—for his third time. Hospital Manager Lina Meyer is always great at taking care of our paperwork with the USDA, working with our schedule (which was very tight this time), and making sure Flynn is always all set to travel and enter into Brazil with no problems! So we highly recommend the doctors we have seen there at PPAH—Dr. Tremlova, Dr. Tobin, and Dr. Baedke—and the other staff members who have assisted us. The doctor and the assistant are very thorough, gentle and loving. Excellent customer service. They also have coffee, tea or water to enjoy while you wait which is only a few minutes.

Fantastic experience: I have been coming to this facility with my dog for several years for regular checkups. I also had to have several of her teeth pulled during this time without incident. I recently had to have my dog put to sleep due to cancer. Dr Paige and the staff were very helpful during the process. I was allowed to spend as much time with my dog as necessary in a private room before and after the process. I highly recommend this facility.

Fantastic experience: My senior dog, Waffles, had the most wonderful experience there today. We have gone there for many years, but as she ages visits to the vet get harder and harder. She’s a big lovable girl with a lot of anxiety. Dr. Robinette(sp)has a heart of gold and a gentle, compassionate soul. And the awesome vet technician who helped us(I’m awful with names but it was lovely and started with an M?)was so great with us. We are blessed and thankful to have you help us care for our beloved Waffle dog.

Fantastic experience: The vet technician was very friendly and fast. The doctor was very knowledgeable and had great bedside manner. I appreciate how they did not try to up charge me on ever diagnostic testing regarding a suspected UTI on my male cat. He’s doing great now after only one day. The facility is beautiful and very clean.

Fantastic experience: Our surgical tech, Jessica, was an absolute angel. We appreciated all of the support she provided to our family during Simba's surgery. She was so thorough, so absolutely helpful, so empathetic, and just so amazing overall. She gave us great advise and pointers, and had great patience with our pupper and our family, including our toddler, who decided to have a lot of energy at pickup! It's clear that Jessica loves animals and her job and that's the people that you want taking care of your pets! We really couldn't have chosen a better care team. Dr. Tobin was also very amazing, and we were so happy to learn that she caught an additional, undiscovered tumor prior to the surgery so that we could operate on it as well. She explained the options and recommended treatment in a way that we felt informed and equipped to take the best decision for our pupper. We appreciated the extra care that she took to ensure that she got margins on his mass removals, the incisions were stitched very well and cleanly, and Simba is doing marvelous following the surgery and adhering the care plan that we received from Dr. Tobin and Jessica. Overall, we were very happy that Simba received - he was in the truly best hands.

Fantastic experience: The vet and tech were great with my 8 year old pup who has anxiety during her 1st visit with me. Super kind and gentle with her to make the vet as least scary a place at can be for our furry kids. Took my last pup there and had the same experience over the last decade. Fantastic experience: I’ve been coming to Portage Park Animal Hospital for over 15 years. First, with my pugs Suzy and Dudley and now with my labsky, Emrick. He absolutely loves the doctors and the staff at Portage Park. They always greet him with hugs and kisses and the Drs are phenomenally trained experts at what they do. He’s had very successful major surgery with Dr Diciaula and his primary care physician Dr Tobin is absolutely wonderful. I wouldn’t even consider going anywhere else.

Fantastic experience: My dearest puppy Chief was diagnosed with Hydrocephalus and I unfortunately had to make the decision to let him rest. Portage Park Animal Hospital made the process easier than it was for me, and for that I am truly thankful. I also appreciate the memorable paw print they gave me alongside a small jar of his fur inside for me to keep forever. To top it off a sweet letter with condolences from their team. Thank you!

Negative experience: Got turned away from the front desk when I said my dog ate rat poison. Told me to go somewhere else and gave me a piece of paper with other locations.

Fantastic experience: I was just there yesterday on an unfortunate circumstance. My baby Gypsy had a mass on her spleen . They gave me the options and probability of her outcome and they have been gracious enough to call and check on her today . Just like her sister I will have to release her pain and transition her. She’s suffering and stopped eating some time now. I needed a compassionate person on the other side of the phone and I couldn’t be more grateful for Dr. Lenette DiCiaula being there for me .

Fantastic experience: WONDERFUL A+ EXPERIENCE. I'm in Chicago with my mom. I was sick! She called Portage Park Animal Hospital. They were full on Saturday, but they made room for me to come in. I LOVED the vet tech & the Doctor & they loved me. After my exam, the Dr. switched my food. My mom & I went home with new dry & canned food & some medicine. By Saturday night I was feeling better & today I feel amazing! My mom is so happy she doesn't have to take me out 4 times a night. The doctor explained everything to mana. She was so happy on our walk back to my sister's house. If I'm sick in Chicago again, I'll definitely go back to Portage Park Animal Hospital. ❤️

Fantastic experience: I’ve been taking my dogs to PPAH since 2013 and I have nothing but high praise for everyone from the vets to the techs to management and front desk staff. Excellent customer service, respectful, knowledgeable, friendly, kind and compassionate are a few words I would use to describe the staff here. They’re great at dentals too- which I credit for my dogs’ long and very healthy lives. I fully trust PPAH for all of my pets healthcare needs!

Fantastic experience: Portage Park Animal Hospital is the absolute best!!! We’ve been taking our dog there since 2022 and they have always been extra understanding with our SUPER anxious pup. Before we met the doctor, she had reviewed his chart from last year to see what would work best for him and everything went smoothly! After the exam I was updated on all vaccines and the doctor followed up by phone before 24 hours to report his test results. Best vet ever!!

Fantastic experience: I’ve been going to Portage Park Animal Hospital for a quarter century, and half a century of my collective dog’s lives have been under their care, there’s a reason I go back. Dr. Kate is awesome!

Fantastic experience: Clear and communicative. We ran a bit late but called to let them know and they were very understanding. When we got there we had to wait because an emergency case came in which is completely understandable and the staff made sure to let us know the situation and offered us candy and water. When it came to my dogs examination they were very clear in letting me know that they saw in a very clear way.

Fantastic experience: Dr. Kate and the Team do a great job! They take great care and are gentle with our nervous (former alley) cat (she's close to 2 years old). We can't get our muted calico to cooperate with nail trimming at home, but she just sits there and cooperates when with Dr. Kate! We have brought our other cats to Portage Park years prior and Dr. Kate has given great advice in their care. Kitty committee approved!

Negative experience: We’ve been bringing our dogs to this clinic for years, and even though their prices have always been on the higher side, we believed the care was worth it. But today’s experience was incredibly disappointing. During our annual check-up, the vet made us feel dumb and incompetent, implying we weren’t providing proper nutrition for our dog simply because we’re not using a “double-certified” nutritionist. Her tone was condescending and dismissive, constantly reminding us that we “don’t know anything” because we don’t have her level of education. To make matters worse, I had called ahead to confirm the consultation price and was told it would be $74. At the end of the visit, they tried to charge us $105. When I questioned it, they admitted it was a mistake on their part and said they would fix it — but that’s not something that should happen in the first place. What’s most frustrating is that the diet we’re following was approved by another vet in the same clinic. The lack of consistency and professionalism is unacceptable. After years of being loyal clients, this visit has left us feeling disrespected and seriously questioning whether we’ll be coming back.

Fantastic experience: First time here and everyone was helpful and sweet. The vet took their time to answer my questions, staff was friendly, and I loved that I was able to check out in the patient room. So glad I transferred my furry companion to get care here!

Negative experience: I called with a simple question and the woman who answered the phone was extremely rude. She got very upset when asking if they offered nail trims for dogs. Also to mention how they park all sticking out in the alley behind there office. I live on that block so it gets extremely frustrating. I recommend to avoid this place at all costs.

Fantastic experience: I was a little concerned about my dog's irritated/scratched eye and he was whimpering. I called the clinic and told them my situation and they were able see my dog on the same day. They were understanding and accommodating in making the appointment for us as soon as possible. The vet and veterinarian assistant were very thorough with my dog and gave him a good examine including taking his weight, accessing his records from his regular vet and ensuring he was chipped. He loved them and didn't resist their touching or the treatment he received. He is already feeling better and so am I.

Fantastic experience: The tech Jessica is amazing. They were very thorough, kind, thoughtful, knew their stuff, and helped me make a touch decision this weekend. I love this animal hospital, Dr Kate was there for me and my dog who has since passed whenever we needed her, even helped talk me through things while I was at the emergency vet! Highly recommend!!

Negative experience: This place treats your animals fairly if they aren't large dogs or "aggressive breeds" and judge you for bringing in a stray and seeking advice. Anyone that is going to sedate an animal that has a muzzle on because their afraid should remove themselves from the veterinary practice. This place is the stuff of nightmares.

Fantastic experience: Dr. Cybulski has the best bed side manners and makes all the info you learn easily digestible. I look forward to continuing receiving care from her throughout Russies life. My entire experience was incredibly smooth and enjoyable, the entire staff was lovely and proactive in our care and comfort.

Fantastic experience: The staff is always so kind every time we come here. They were able to squeeze us in last minute and were so understanding, knowledgeable and patient (answering the many MANY questions I had). I truly cannot recommend a better place to bring your pet

Fantastic experience: I switched from a Vet office closer to my house a year ago, because I always felt like a number, & they didn’t have any Veterinarians that had a personality. I can honestly say that everyone I’ve interacted with at Portage Park animal hospital is wonderful & smiles! And they genuinely care about my dog. Haven’t had that feeling in a while. This is my babies new Dr. Office from now on. ❤️

Fantastic experience: I and my dog like the place. The professional staff help us with everything we need and make us comfortable feeling while the visit. The only inconvenience is a very limited parking in front of the hospital located on the busy street. You need to come earlier for your appointment to find a place to park.

Fantastic experience: Portage Park Animal Hospital is always the best. Dr Kate was wonderful. She took lots of time with our puppies to be sure they're well cared for. Pam at the desk remembered me after two years away. She is so knowledgeable and kind. The visit was great.

Positive experience: Not the best of moments here... Took my sister to put down her old cat before he died on his own. They were very nice, all things considered. Lack of parking on the busy street. They do have a loading zone you can use right out front.

Negative experience: I took my cat on Monday sep 23 2024 to have dental surgery. When I went to pick her up she wasn't breathing right. They put her on oxygen that wasn't helping then she stopped breathing. They did CPR ON HER but nothing was helping. My cat was fine when I took her in They said everything went well during the surgery so why did she pass away. I was told that when they went to put her in the carrier to bring out to me. She got away from that handler and did like 4 laps around the room before catching her. They seem to think by her running around after surgery she might have had a stroke. My cat was fine when I took her in it was supposed to some teeth extraction dental work. Why is my fur baby gone!? Even the vet said it should have never happened so why did it happen? After she ran around did someone handle her wrongly? I need some answers

Fantastic experience: This clinic has continued to be consistently great over the past few years that I’ve been taking my senior kitty. Dr. Tobin is fantastic, I trust her to take care of my cat. I appreciate how friendly and knowledgeable all of the staff are. Dr. Tobin also always follows up when she says she will which I really appreciate. I highly recommend this clinic!
