Fantastic experience: They really are amazing people. I’m so blessed they were able to help me and my cat Onyx. Other offices were just telling me to come in with an over the phone urgent diagnosis. They called me in calmly and helped me with what I could afford. I hope I don’t need to go back, but I really 100% would if I could. Fantastic experience: Our dog recently injured herself (later finding out it was a torn CCL) and we brought her in around midnight. The staff immediately came outside to open the doors and got her right to an exam table for examination and subsequent x-rays. During a stressful time the staff were super caring with our dog and comforting the whole visit.

Fantastic experience: Absolutely incredible team!!! I'm so thankful we had VEG close by. My dog was hit by a speeding driver while we were on our regular walk and had a massive laceration on her snout. Dr. Cave did a phenomenal job stitching her up, they performed thorough testing to make sure she didn't have any fractures or internal issues, and the whole team took great care of me and my pet. Even our follow-up vet mentioned that the suturing was plastic-surgery-level amazing. My dog is on the mend thanks to these wonderful people, thank you!

Fantastic experience: Everyone on staff was so helpful and kind. We were seen immediately and stayed with our cat during examination. Thankfully our issue ended up being minor, but I would not hesitate to come back for any urgent issue. Thanks again!

Fantastic experience: We had a wonderful experience at VEG Lincoln Park! We knew our dog would do best without having to leave our sides for any exams or treatment - and we never had to. It was up to us every step of the way how involved we wanted to be, from bloodwork to exams. There was no wondering where she was being taken or what was happening to her. Aside from that aspect, all of the staff who treated and cared for her were amazing. She needed to spend 2 nights hospitalized and thus met and was examined by numerous vets, nurses, and techs. They were sensitive to her needs and provided her with so much love! We felt very comfortable with her staying overnight. We asked so many questions and all of the staff were incredibly responsive and no one made us feel stupid! I cannot recommend this VEG location enough!!

Fantastic experience: They made a very stressful situation calmer, they were attentive and kind with my cat Rosie and also patient with all of my questions. While I hope I don’t need to go back at any point, in the event of an emergency this is where I will go.

Negative experience: I will start by saying, there were 3 employees that were very nice, in which one being the male receptionist. However, this establishment was a waste of time & just seemed like all they cared about is making money than your animal. When checking my dog’s temperature through his rectum, the gentleman just carelessly pushed it in making him (my dog) jump and panic. When drawing his blood, the woman assigned to handle the procedure, poked my dog three times & kept fishing for a vein. When I asked her if she could just be careful with him she made a snarly remark saying, “Well I need to get his blood so..” and basically ignored my concern. We were assigned Dr. Mettenburg, which we explained my dogs symptoms & said she would send us a treatment plan via text. We went ahead with a few procedures for her to come back & give us basically no type of answer. As a doctor who specializes in animals we did ask for her professional opinion of what she may possibly think was the issue but we got nowhere. No answers, disregarded concerns & basically kept pushing new treatment plans and medication. How can you prescribe medication when you can’t even give a definitive answer on what the issue may be or is?! The way this situation was handled was in my opinion a money scheme. Your pet is just a dollar sign to them & they could care less about your animals well being. She even went as far as saying, “Well if money is an issue..”, which took me by surprise because not only was it rude to assume but also felt we were profiled as minorities. I stand firm on saying, if you really love your animals, you should avoid taking them here.

Fantastic experience: Absolutely wonderful. I appreciate how well informed they keep me and allow me to stay with my cat the entire time. Extremely helpful, supportive, kind, and professional staff. Anytime you have to take your pet to the emergency vet is never a good day, and they go out of their way to make things as comfortable as possible. They treated my cat as if she was their own pet. Highly, highly recommend for emergencies.

Fantastic experience: My dog came here because she had been really sick since the early morning. The staff here went above and beyond my expectations and made sure my dog was immediately seen while also staying comfortable. They did everything possible to keep me updated and keep me with her as they cared for her. My dog is pretty nervous around strangers and everyone was so sweet and patient with her while doing whatever they could to keep her calm. I honestly cannot express how grateful I am to them for their care of my dog. I highly recommend them to anyone who has an emergency with their pet.

Fantastic experience: I had to bring my cat in for maybe swallowing a Tylenol tablet. Everyone from the check-in staff to the tech to the doctor to the nurse to the checkout staff were incredible. They took my pet back immediately for triage. The doctor explained everything that was going on and what the plan would be. I was invited to stay with my pet the entire time. I was updated about his condition. And When we went home, we were given Clear instructions and what to do next. I would highly recommend this to anyone looking for an emergency vet.

Fantastic experience: Though I deeply hope that you and your pet never face an emergency situation, just know that if you do, this is the place to be. The most passionate, caring, comforting team I have ever encounter - gee, I wish care was at this level for humans. You’re in good hands here, I cannot say that enough times. Thank you, VEG, thank you. My eyes tear up just thinking about our fear for our cat baby and how they’ve handled us over the last 48 hours. Incredible. Also 10/10 comfort snack selection, thank your for that as well. You guys think of it all.

Fantastic experience: They were amazing. My very hyper puppy tried jumping over a sidewalk fence and she gashed her abdomen really bad. They made sure that my baby was given pain meds immediately and started her treatment within 10 minutes. They communicated very clearly and treated her with so much love and kindness. They really understand how worried we can be about our pets. I'm grateful for their professionalism and kindness during our visit. It's looking like my puppy Misty will make a full recovery.

Fantastic experience: Took my cat here after he landed funny/fell, and was seen almost right away (of course, not sure how busy they were, and I would have been fine waiting as emergent cases of course need to be seen first), the staff and vet were kind, calm, professional, collaborative, and reasonable. They didn’t seem to push charges or anything. They had 100% validated parking. I was really grateful and impressed with the place :)

Fantastic experience: Have you ever met a group of people who are CLEARLY in the right profession? Thats every staff member at VEG. I have never met more empathetic, compassionate, and educated veterinarians than the people here. We had an emergency with our dog and had no idea what was going on. As soon as we brought her in 5 people immediately started to work on her. They thoroughly explained everything that was going on, gave us options and explained what would happen with each of those options. We ultimately had to put our girl down, but their staff made it as smooth as possible. I really cant put into words how incredible this place was. Being a traumatic day I don't really remember names, but that doesn't really matter because every single person there deserves recognition. We wouldnt have gotten through this time without them. I can't thank them enough

I appreciate the transparency in the whole setup and being able to stay with my dog the whole time was really wonderful. Fantastic experience: My cat had a urinary blockage and the wonderful staff welcomed him with no questions asked. My baby is about to reach his 48 hours with no blockage! Thank you so much for caring for my baby! He’s peeing really well and only asks for cuddles! This is all thanks to the smart and caring staff!

Fantastic experience: I don’t usually write reviews, but our dog who is scared of vets had an emergency and had to go in with no medication (which she usually takes to go in). The vet techs and vet here were so kind and exceptional with our girl. She did so good with all the procedures and it’s 100% because the staff did such a phenomenal job with her. That kind of treatment means so much to us.

Fantastic experience: Dr. Bordbar and the nurse (don’t remember her name) were truly angels. The doctor understood our worries and struggles and while completely caring for our pet, made US feel cared for during our visit. As two broke college students who love our animals with our whole being, Dr. Bordbar was the best doctor Ive ever been around. Amazing team, already recommended to fellow fur parents.

Fantastic experience: Thank you to VEG and especially the women working the overnight shift. They were extremely professional, caring, patient, kind, and knowledgeable. They did everything possible to care for my pitbull mix and to reassure me along the way, and I appreciated them letting me be a part of the entire process. Highly recommend VEG for any emergency situations with your pets!

Fantastic experience: We had a late night emergency with our Sphinx cat. Ended up having to stay for 2 nights with the folks at VEG. The doctors and staff there we're great at explaining everything to us and offering options. When we went to pick him up one of the techs there had knitted him a sweater! Talk about above and beyond. A huge thank you to everyone at VEG!

Fantastic experience: This is the second time me and pup have had to go to VEG for emergency attention. They are great! Emergency medicine in Chicago is always expensive but they were upfront about costs. We were seen by a nurse within minutes and by a doctor in about 15 minutes. They kept us comfortable and informed and allowed me to stay with my pup the whole time, for both our sakes. While I never want to have to go there again, they are absolutely my first call for emergency support.

Fantastic experience: It’s really hard to find a good emergency vet but they are great! The vets and techs clearly care and spend time making sure you understand everything. Expensive but good pay transparency as they provide itemized estimates before treatment. I paid about $1k for my cat’s uti including pretty extensive labs, sedative, catheter, antibiotic and med refill. But this was actually a little under what their estimate was on the itemized bill. Way better than going somewhere that seems cheaper but surprises you at the end of the visit!

Fantastic experience: We brought our dog in to be examined and got devastating news he needed to be put down due to his declining health and age. the staff was so kind and helpful to us during this time. they made our dog as comfortable as possible and even though it was a very traumatic night, the staff did such a great job with his care, and their compassion was greatly appreciated.

Fantastic experience: Everyone was super helpful! I had to bring my cat in after she started throwing up a bunch, but they were quickly able to get to the source of it, took great care of her all day, and she managed to pass what was partially blocking her small intestine! All personnel were super helpful and accommodating. Even let me read on the floor for hours while they monitored her and did her second round of x-rays.

Fantastic experience: We cannot say enough good things about VEG Lincoln Park. When our senior dog was experiencing serious respiratory and cardiac issues, their team stepped in immediately with calm, compassion, and incredible professionalism. From the moment we arrived, he was treated quickly and with so much care—it was clear he was in expert hands. The medical team thoroughly assessed him and explained everything clearly, which brought us so much reassurance during a very scary moment. What truly set VEG apart was how far above and beyond they went: when it was time to transfer him to a specialist, a VEG tech actually rode with us to ensure our dog was secure and receiving continuous oxygen care during transport, even taking an Uber back afterward. That level of dedication, empathy, and love for animals is rare. We are endlessly grateful to the entire VEG team. Thank you for treating our dog like family. We love VEG.

Fantastic experience: I would give 10 starts if I could. We mainly dealt with Dr Roxie Bordbar, I wish I had the names of everyone else. But the compassion that Dr Bordbar and everyone at this location gave made the final days of my little mans life so comfortable. Thank you again. ❤️

Fantastic experience: My experience here was absolutely wonderful. I had the difficult task of bringing in my very sick dog, Earl, with a 2.5 year old child in tow. They immediately recognized how difficult that was, and cleaned out a private room for my child to stay while Earl was being treated. They were overly accommodating, offering snacks, drinks, toys, and coloring supplies. I cannot thank them enough for not making me feel guilty for bringing my child and for making me feel supported at a time that was emotionally difficult. They even carried him out to my car in the cold because I had my hands full of toddler. Earl received amazing treatment, and he’s doing well after his bladder surgery. I’m forever thankful for everyone making a very stressful day as smooth as possible. Special thanks to Ellie for keeping me informed and Becky for explaining the X-rays to me!

Fantastic experience: I truly can’t put into words how amazing the team at VEG is. I had to take my cat in and everyone was so kind and supportive in this stressful situation. I was incredibly overwhelmed but the doctor and nurses explained everything in detail and took great care of my fur baby. So thankful for the team here!

Fantastic experience: Honestly very impressed with VEG. The staff was friendly, well coordinated, and clearly worked as a team. We spoke with multiple people and never had to repeat ourselves, and everything felt organized and efficient even with additional patients coming and going. They greeted us right away, listened closely to my concerns about my pup, and explained everything clearly and professionally. I felt comfortable the entire time, and so did my pup, which matters most. They were very gentle and patient with him too. They provide a clear estimate outlining the plan and services so you know what to expect before moving forward. I left feeling confident in my decision to come here and completely satisfied with the care we received. In an emergency, this will be the first place I go and recommend to others. If you drive, park on the upper level of the garage so they can help with validation.

Fantastic experience: Ally and the team were truly incredible during one of the most unexpected and hardest nights for our dog. The Techs, Vets, and Staff were amazing through the journey. I’m very grateful. The text check-in was extremely helpful to expedite the process. Staff were empathetic and informative.

Fantastic experience: We’ve been to VEG a few times and can’t express how thankful we are for the compassionate care we consistently receive. What are often stressful times are met with such care and knowledge from all staff members. This time, we are extra grateful for the care our pup received from Mal, Felix, Kelly, Marbella, Dr. Harbaugh and Dr. Gulson. While we hope we don’t have to visit again, we know we are in great hands if we ever have to again.

Fantastic experience: I am so grateful for the care we received at VEG. Dr. Chandler and the entire team of nurses were outstanding—efficient, compassionate, and incredibly professional. They took wonderful care of my skittish cat, handling him with patience and calm that made a stressful situation so much easier. Everything was explained clearly, and the whole process was smooth and well-coordinated despite the urgency. They also validate parking, which was one less thing to worry about. It’s clear how dedicated and caring this team is, and I wouldn’t hesitate to recommend them to anyone in need of emergency veterinary care.

Fantastic experience: Dr Cave and staff are phenomenal. They are kind, patient, and very empathetic. They saved our cat as she had a foreign object and they took such good care of her. They were all so gentle yet very sturdy. I really enjoy the open concept of this. It allows you to be with your pet at all times so they stay comforted by you. This was really important to me as I heard my cat screaming for the first time ever at my last vet place and I’m not sure if they hurt her (accident or not). Thank you to the staff. It is slightly expensive but probably cheaper than other places. They will try their best to work with you for payment options but they won’t do things just for the sake of adding costs. Thankfully we were able to avoid surgery. Everyone again is so kind - I’m really thankful to them all and I hope they all have a blessed holiday season filled with good health and happiness

Fantastic experience: We’ve had to come into VEG a few times with our pug and they have been absolutely amazing. They make the scary situations a little easier with their love for the animals and their knowledge. We are always welcome to stay as long as we can and they make us as comfortable as possible. I would definitely recommend this place if you need an ER Vet!

Fantastic experience: Taking a pet to the emergency vet is always scary but when it's a 10 week old puppy, it's just a bit scarier. Brought in my puppy on Friday, December 12th, at 5:30pm after my regular vet told me "Yeah, we close here soon so we can't help you". I called ahead and the receptionist was very helpful. She even made sure I knew where to park so I don't have to stress over this. When I got to the clinic they told me right away to bring my puppy in the treatment room. Vet Tech Stacey, Dr. Mettenburg and Dr. Rushing took exceptional care of the puppy (and me). I was so baffled I could stay with him the entire time. After 3 long hours we were ready to go home and Fletch is going to be a-okay. While I wish I had met this amazing team under different circumstances, I am thankful I trusted my gut and went to this ER. Highly recommend VEG Lincoln Park.

Fantastic experience: If you ever find yourself in the unfortunate position of needing an emergency vet, I highly recommend this place. The entire staff was kind, knowledgeable, and incredibly efficient. Fantastic experience: I can’t not thank the amazing team at V.E.G enough for taking care of my 13 week old pup who was experiencing bowel issues and lethargy. I thought I could wait it out for 24 hours but found myself restless and worried for my boy in the middle of the night. So I decided to bring him in. I had a million things going through my mind as I’m guilty of using Dr.Google so I was a nervous wreck on the drive there. But from the moment we walked in we were immediately checked in and the kindness from the team immediately put me at ease. From the front desk to the nurses and the doctors everyone was so sweet and attentive. You can just tell they love what they do and it was a very refreshing feeling especially during a stressful time like this. Each process was explained to me in detail and they gave Rocky the utmost care. They were swamped- I’m sure with cases much worse than ours but I never felt like we were left on the back burner. All I can say is that I’m glad I chose this place. Hopefully we won’t have to pay a visit again anytime soon but I know where to go for any of our pups emergency needs. Fantastic experience: Prompt attention, kind and considerate, thorough explanations, very clean facility. Was able to stay with my cat for most of the time there. You will have to pay in advance once they have made a plan. I paid the high end of the estimate and was given a refund the next day for some things they wound up not doing. Also had a quiet comfortable spot to wait which is important as I was there for almost 6 hours.

Fantastic experience: Wow, what an amazing experience and staff at the Veg Lincoln Park location. I came in on Saturday (12/7), around 9PM. And although I waited a while, they kept me informed every single step of the way and even came to us to help expedite his services. Very understanding with cost, and reassured me he was getting necessary things and not adding on stuff unnecessarily. Dr.Cane gave such great info and really explained it to me, and didn’t mind all of my questions. They also were very kind about the fact my boy hates needles, thank you VEG Lincoln Park for such an amazing experience from an emergency!

Fantastic experience: The entire care team went above and beyond to take care of Sinatra and me both during our visit, and I truly do not have the words to express my gratitude to them. VEG Lincoln Park is a special breed (badum tsss) of compassionate and I will always recommend them to fellow pet parents in Chicago.

Negative experience: The experience was unacceptable from start to finish. I brought my elderly dog in for IV hydration after she had barely walked or eaten all day. Instead of listening to me, the vet, Hamza Ajeena, immediately pressured me into an expensive battery of tests—even though she had a full workup just one week earlier that was completely normal. The vet insisted he “saw fluid in her lungs” and warned me that he sees pets “in this much distress” die in their sleep the same night if owners decline testing. That alone had me in tears. Meanwhile, before even discussing anything with me, they gave my dog an injection that completely sedated her—the exact opposite of the reason I came in. She was functional when I arrived; they made her non-functional. They then rushed her into an oxygen chamber, despite me explaining that her breathing pattern was unchanged from her baseline. They insisted she was in respiratory distress and refused to let me take her out even briefly to use the bathroom. As a result, she was left in the chamber for hours and ended up urinating and having diarrhea on herself. She came back covered in it. For that alone, I believe this clinic owes me the cost of grooming. Under the pressure of being told she might die overnight, I authorized the $1,000+ panel of tests. When they returned her, I was told she had also been given anti-nausea medication through an IV—despite the fact that she had never been nauseated or vomiting. Another charge I had never agreed to. Most concerning: the scans ultimately showed no fluid in her lungs. When I questioned the vet in front of another doctor—asking why he told me he saw fluid—he suddenly changed his story, saying he had only seen “a line” that made him slightly suspicious of fluid. That was not what he said earlier. His tone and explanation completely shifted once another veterinarian was present. I left feeling manipulated, dismissed, and as though my pet was used to drive revenue rather than cared for. My dog was put through unnecessary fear, sedation, isolation, and discomfort. I would absolutely NOT recommend this veterinarian to anyone and plan to share my experience wherever it may help other pet owners avoid this.

Fantastic experience: Dr. Bellin and Ellie were absolutely fantastic when we brought our puppy in 2 times within the week. The communication was top notch. They treated my puppy like it was their own. Price quotes were given up front which is greatly appreciated. 10/10 would recommend and would go back if needed

Fantastic experience: My husband and I took our pittie Rocco after multiple days of him appearing to be sick. We took him here on a Saturday night and they took him right in. We were anxious as to how they would treat Rocco bc he’s a pitbull but they were the sweetest with him which made his and our experience 100% better. He tends to be reactive with strangers handling him but he allowed brief pets from the vet techs; which he never accepts. They also put us in a separate little room to keep Rocco calmer. We opted for an x ray and meds that made him feel better and put our minds at ease. Although it is pricy it’s worth it for the attention and care they gave our Rocco.

Fantastic experience: Wish I could give a higher rating...my experience here was amazing. Their team goes above and beyond to make sure of that. We were instantly triaged, my kitten was examined, and they quickly worked out a solution for us. Especially because of the emergent nature of our visit, that really made VEG stand out. Thank you all so much for your excellent work.

Fantastic experience: If you got a vet emergency and you wanna make sure your little ones are given the best care, stop reading this review and head out to VEG. Dr Hamza and Dr. Farren were able to identify the issue and take necessary steps to help Mochi out. Dr Hamza performed the surgery and he rested well overnight before his discharge the next day. A big thank you to all the nurses and doctors who made sure that he was at ease during the entire process.

Fantastic experience: Dr. Kayla Casavant and Dr. Eva Krusova were both so wonderful. They made me feel so much better about my cat's condition. I can tell they both really love animals. They took time and did an ultrasound to find a better diagnosis. I deeply appreciate the time they took with me to explain everything. I highly recommend both of them.

Fantastic experience: Had a terrible scare and brought my sweet girl in and they saved her life. Spending 6+hrs to monitor her while we sat with her was such a gift. This is what every vet office, emergency or not, should be like. The transparency, the urgency, the kindness and care are unmatched. This is her third trip and I just can’t say enough thank you VEG

Fantastic experience: I recently brought my dog in for lack of appetite and dry heaving. Turns out my dog had pneumonia. The second Dr. Bordbar and the nurse, Claire, heard my dog cough they knew right away and put my pup into isolation. Dr. Bordbar, Dr. Ajeena, and Dr. Schanks all were doctors on my dog’s case and the inpatient nurse team of Jamie, Hadley, and Courtney were out of this world! I haven’t been to an emergency room for a dog since my last pup had seizures. Getting to spend as much time with my dog in isolation as I wanted meant the world to me. This team truly made me feel like my dog was the best dog in the world. They really loved her, and cared for and were rooting for her recovery. I couldn’t shout this team out louder.

Fantastic experience: This is THE PLACE to go if you have an animal emergency. These are truly animal people! They are kind, sweet, patient, and put you and your pets first. You can trust them to not take advantage of you financially, they will do whats best for your pet and you. Can't thank them enough for everything they did for my sweet kitty.

Fantastic experience: I have always had really great experiences here. They saved my dog’s life about a year ago. Recently we had to make an extremely difficult decision to say goodbye to our boy after getting some very bad news. The compassion, kindness, and genuine concern the staff showed us was remarkable. They walked us through every step and explained everything. Thank you for making an extremely difficult and sad decision a little easier. I am very grateful to all of the staff at VEG.

Fantastic experience: Just want to thank everyone here for their outstanding work and professionalism in what must be an unbelievably tough job. Our cat was taken back right away, they did a great job getting everyone who came in assessed immediately and determining how urgent each case was. Our situation was stable so we had a small wait for an x-ray but everything proceeded well. Mike was great in the front room, appreciate his and everyone there having a positive attitude (also with respect to how demanding pet care seems). Although we hope to not have an emergency and return soon, we feel in great hands here and comfortable knowing they're available 24/7 if something comes up.

Fantastic experience: I called ahead to see what the wait time might be like, and was immediately transferred to a doctor to discuss my cat’s symptoms. They texted me a link to check in ahead of time so they would be ready when we arrived. Even with 7 other patients being seen, they knew about me and my cat immediately upon arrival. We were put into a room the minute i mentioned my cat gets very stressed at the vet. Everyone was extremely friendly, helpful, caring and prompt. Even the security man outside was very sweet and helped me park for free. By far the best experience i’ve ever had at an emergency vet, from phone call to checkout. I’m so impressed and will be recommending to all my pet parent friends. Thank you to all staff!

Fantastic experience: The entire care team was so kind and compassionate to all the pet patients and guardians. It was very clean. The open concept set up was unique and it worked. I had no wait time, and while I was there with my dog who had eaten a lot of chocolate , they were tending to cats, dogs and even a hamster. Dr. C was terrific, as were all the other vets, attendings, and techs. I highly recommend VEG.

Negative experience: I brought my cat here because of UTI symptoms. I had a regular appointment with my vet and they Insisted that I go to the er instead because of possible blockage. Once I got to the er he said it was very uncommon for a girl cat to get a blockage. I was really nervous bringing her in because I’ve never been told by a vet to go to the er. I was taken into triage very quick but once I was sent the estimate it took an hour to be seen. I was there for 4 HOURS just for the nurse to say “I hope we never see you again.” Before I leave. Never going here again, doctor was snotty and rude.

Fantastic experience: It is so incredibly stressful and hard when your pet is having an emergency. I do not have the words to express how thankful I am to VEG for being there for us. Every single person we encountered was compassionate and genuinely cared about our cat Augie and us. Everything was thoroughly explained, we were offered multiple treatment options and there was never any judgement, just kindness and patience. Augie had to stay two nights and we were encouraged to stay with him whenever we were able. The three nurses who cared for him, all truly made the experience so much easier. I feel awful that I cannot remember everyone's name because I was so upset, but the nurse the first night monitored him so carefully while he was sedated, distracted us with stories and funny conversation, and moved Augie to a more isolated space after his procedure because he is so afraid of any noise. The day nurse never made us feel in the way as they worked around us, made sure all our questions were answered, was so patient with our nervous boy, and encouraged us to take breaks to get snacks and water (all of which is provided by the clinic!). On our last night Ellie got me pillows and blanket so I could sleep next to Augie's cage, checked in on us all night, was so kind when I got nervous about going home with a sick buddy and offered me reassurance that there was nothing I could have done differently to avoid this emergency. If we ever have another urgent situation, with any of our kitties in the future, we would not even consider going anywhere but here! I will be forever grateful for the quality of the care we received, and the kindness of the entire staff.

Fantastic experience: While I wish this was not the case, we have been to the VEG a number of times for a myriad of concerns. Every time, we feel like our dog is in the best care. Most recently, we had the scariest experience of watching our dog stop breathing due to choking. When we couldn't get him to breathe on our own we rushed him to VEG where Dr. Schanks and the team was waiting to take action. They identified the obstruction and performed an effective endoscopy to successfully remove the lodged yak chew. They approached every decision with the highest quality of care and kept us informed every step of the way. We are tremendously grateful to the full team and would recommend the VEG to any pet owner in a crisis.

Fantastic experience: I highly recommend VEG! We had to take our 12 year old/young beagle mix in due to painful hip arthritis. They helped immensely and worked with our Vet as well. Our sweet pup is on the mend to stability and we are dearly grateful for the care given to him and to us.

Fantastic experience: Outstanding hospital and emergency vet! They are quick, efficient, thorough, and truly take your concerns seriously. Our 10-month-old puppy had been diagnosed with kennel cough by his regular vet and we were told he would recover on his own since he was vaccinated and otherwise healthy. One night, however, we noticed his breathing becoming labored and he was extremely lethargic. We called VEG, and they immediately advised us to bring him in. We were seen right away, and within 30 minutes our puppy had medication that helped him tremendously. X-rays and blood work confirmed pneumonia and early bronchitis. It was such a relief to be taken seriously and to see how attentive, understanding, and compassionate the staff and doctor were. We are so grateful for their care & our puppy is back to his usual self! Thank you VEG!!

Fantastic experience: They were amazing!! My kitty was seen almost immediately by extremely friendly nurses and doctors who were confident, calm, and very communicative. I could stay with my cat the entire time, and even though we were in an open area ER the atmosphere was calm and collected- it made me feel immensely comfortable in the quality of care they provide. This was genuinely my best experience at a vet and I highly recommend taking your pet here in emergencies. (They even have a boat load of really good snacks and drinks for owners)

Fantastic experience: I had the best veterinary experience of my/my pets' lives at the VEG Lincoln Park location. The reception was warm on the phone and were proactive in getting a provider on the phone with me when requested. The provider answered all my questions and was direct in telling me to come in. At arrival, my pet was taken back immediately and seen by the staff and provider also immediately. I have a very shy and anxious animal and they were so gentle with him, including administering some of his care within his crate to keep him comfortable. They were entirely transparent with pricing, including the provider being honest with me about what was needed and endorsing the less expensive option as more appropriate instead of pushing me to pay for testing that would have been unnecessary based on the current state of my pet's specific case. They were clear about what to do if his symptoms returned and explained how pricing would work/be waived should I need to return. Instructions for his care were easy to follow and, because they focused on both relief day-of as well as his ongoing treatment, my pet was immediately active and excited when we got home (usually he'd hide for a few hours after he's left the house). I've never seen such a drastic, positive change in my pets' behavior and I could tell throughout the following week of his treatment plan, that he was improving so well. VEG gave me comfort and confidence when I was feeling especially afraid for my pet's wellbeing and concerned about my abilities as his caretaker. The facility is clean and easy to navigate. And the cherry on top? Parking is easily available directly behind the building and they offered to validate my parking. :)

Fantastic experience: The most incredible vet experience I have ever had. I was seen immediately the second I walked through the door my cat was being cared for. Every single staff member was kind attentive and amazing at their job. Even the door person was incredibly helpful and kind. They listened to all of my concerns and met every request without hesitation. And the prices were shockingly reasonable for an emergency visit. I was expecting a massive bill but it was far more affordable than I imagined especially given the level of care. I was in and out in about an hour and every issue was fully resolved. I am absolutely over the moon with this experience and would recommend this clinic to everyone.

Negative experience: If you love your pet DO NOT GO HERE. My dachshunds back legs were weak and he was incontinent and they had us sit and wait while he was shaking on the ground for 30 minutes while about 10 staff members laughed and joked and walked around us. I walked out. Turns out- His back legs were paralyzed and he had to have emergency surgery at medvet- go there if you can. I’m so serious. I’ve never left a review on google ever- until now. Avoid this place at all costs!!!!!

Fantastic experience: This past Sunday night, my dog had a small seizure and was in and out of conscience. I brought her in here because I was not sure what to do and didn’t want to wait for my vet to open the next morning. The staff saw me get out of the car with the dog from inside and say me crying and 3 of them rushed outside to help me. Brought me in and the nurse saw us right away and the staff calmed me down, got me water all as they helped my dog. They were so good and at the end, realized it was not as major as I thought and sent me on my way with no charge. I will use them over and over (hopefully I don’t have to) and I HIGHLY RECCOMEND THEM!!! I wish I knew the nurses name because she deserves a big shout out! THANK YOU ALL SOOOOO MUCH!

Fantastic experience: I can’t express enough how grateful I am to the entire team at VEG. I was kept so informed and was made to feel so comfortable. I was presented multiple options and everything was fully explained. The level of empathy combined with vet knowledge can’t be beat and I can’t recommend them enough.

Fantastic experience: The whole experience here was above and beyond. You get to be with your pet throughout, you talk to the doctor and get a treatment plan before you are charged anything. Some places I’ve been to charged $700 just to walk in before triage (Medvet) From reception to the techs to the doc, all comforting and great at their jobs. Exam was thorough and the price was fair.

Fantastic experience: Brought in my pup after she seemed to decline despite a couple of regular vet visits. We ended up needing to hospitalize her and eventually and unfortunately having to put her down. The open door policy is fantastic and allowed us to spend as much time with her as we could while still receiving treatment. The entire staff from the front desk staff, nurses, assistants and doctors were so so kind to myself as well as my dog and I felt so comfortable leaving her in their care. When it came down to making a decision about her continued care the doctors all felt very knowledgable and answered every question we had. As heartbroken as we are that we lost our baby, I feel confident she received the best care she could and have no regrets about bringing her to the awesome team at VEG Lincoln Park.

Positive experience: I don’t want to give low stars but each time I’ve brought my dog in I haven’t had the best experience. My dog was getting fluids injected into a layer of her skin and the vet tech didn’t hook it up properly which ended up spraying my face, and my dog was misdiagnosed with pancreatitis during another visit. I do appreciate their help in times of emergencies, but we’ve had mixed reviews with each experience.

Fantastic experience: First, if you are reading this, it probably means something is going on with a beloved pet. I sincerely hope everything is going to be ok. Please take a moment to learn about our experiences with the VEG Lincoln Park office. I'm confident this will help you decide to head into see them. One recent Sunday morning we took our 10 year old yellow Labrador retriever into the VEG- Lincoln Park office, after a night of coughing, disinterest in eating - which is unheard of for a Lab, and having trouble breathing. They took him right into a private room, quickly assessed him, determined a x-ray would be best. The x-rays showed he had aspirational pneumonia and would require an overnight in the facility. This was a little triggering for me as we lost our black lab to bacterial pneumonia 6+ years ago. as I asked questions I started welling up with tears, the Vet Tech talking to us was wonderful, showed empathy and care. In fact each person we talked to was wonderful, they introduced themselves, explained the steps they were taking, and loved all over our boy. Multiple times we were told we could stay as long as we wanted, we could come and go, we could even sleep there if that helped us feel better. Ultimately we decided he needed undisturbed rest, us being present would distract him from that. But we called several times to check in, the staff and vets took the time to answer our questions and update us on how he was doing. Early the next morning he was ready to come home. When we arrived, hearing who we were there to pick up, several staff members came over to tell us how great a dog he is, and other compliments. It was really heartwarming how much care they give to each animal they see. Make no mistake it was not inexpensive but they took the time to go over what they proposed, and offered payment plans if needed. Bottom line -if you are looking for a good ER Vet, this is the group to go see. and again I hope everything will work out for your pet.

Fantastic experience: Dr. Schanks and the whole VEG team were incredible. They were kind, compassionate, and endlessly patient. Even when they were very busy, they took the time to go over everything with me and made me feel like my very sick girl was getting the best possible care. They have also gone to great lengths to make sure the facility is very comfortable for the pet parent who is waiting. I can't thank them all enough for taking care of Susan. She's feeling so much better and it's all thanks to them!

Fantastic experience: Brought my reactive dog to VEG after toxic ingestion. I seriously could not be happier with our experience! The staff were kind, knowledgeable, friendly and helpful. Our pup usually screams at the vet - not one peep out of her at VEG because of the accommodating vets & techs. Fantastic experience: This place is exceptional! I woke up at midnight to my puppy vomiting non-stop. I know dogs can experience vomiting once in a blue moon; however, this was 10x within one hour. His regular vet was closed and I was so worried so I googled 24hr vet & this place appeared. Everything & everyone was phenomenal here, from the security guard when you first enter, the receptionist, and the amazing nurses and vet. They were able to target the issue (build up of him eating his toys), informed me on what they believe would be best & how they would proceed. Overall, the best staff I have ever experienced & my puppy is doing amazing now. This place was a breath of fresh air, thank you so much!

Fantastic experience: All of the doctors and nurses went above and beyond to ensure that I was kept updated and answered all of my questions with such great care. A huge plus is that I was able to stay with my puppy the whole time she was being cared for my the doctors and nurses. I would not hesitate to recommend VEG Lincoln park to anyone that may need emergency vet services.

Fantastic experience: Needing emergency vet care is never a good position to be in but my recent visit to VEG Lincoln Park was by far the best ER experience I've had in Chicago. There was an immediate sense of urgency as soon as I walked through the door and I immediately knew I was in the right place, even though it hadn't been the closest option. The care and compassion shown toward pets and families was incredible. I decided to try VEG because of the opportunity to stay with my pet throughout the visit and it made a world of difference. My pet was calmer and so was I. Highly recommend and I'll return anytime I'm in need of emergency vet care.

Fantastic experience: Veg is seriously so amazing! I had to bring my dog, Morty in due to us being in a little bike accident :( We came in and I probably seemed more upset then Morty did lol because I was just so shaken up and sad for my dog. Everyone at Veg was so immediately comforting, reassuring, and professional. They were so attentive with helping me and Morty while also helping other animals in the clinic. Morty is feeling so much better and it’s really thanks to them.

Fantastic experience: My cat has newly diagnosed diabetes and Inflammatory Bowel Disease. She gets very sick very fast. VEG has been beyond kind to me, helpful, and supportive during all of her visits trying to manage these complicated issues. I couldn’t do this without them. Thank you!

Fantastic experience: I had a five star experience. Everyone with whom I came into contact was kind, clearly quite skilled and knowledgeable. Definitely the best ER visit I’ve experienced with our “baby”. We were seen immediately and help was provided to all of the patients and their people as quickly as possible in a very busy environment.

Fantastic experience: We had an absolutely phenomenal experience in what was a very sad and high stress situation. The staff were friendly, helpful and calm. It was really wonderful to be able to be with Bram during his full care. I really loved the openness of the room, really made is feel less isolated and like we could get help anytime we needed it. The staff made a bed on the floor for our dog and even provided a yoga mat so we could sit with him....we also had a comfy couch. There were so many little touches that made the experience less tramatic...easy access to snacks, water and restrooms. The vet was accessible, compassionate and kind and all the staff worked together so well to get my dog comfortable and made sure we felt well taken care of.

Negative experience: I wanted to take a moment to share feedback about my experience at your hospital. Before anything else, I truly appreciate the stress and responsibility that comes with treating pets who are unwell. That said, I have carried some difficult feelings from the experience, which is why I’m posting now, even though it has been about a year since my visit. At the time, I was emotionally overwhelmed and couldn’t bring myself to write about it. I also wanted to make sure I was sharing this feedback in a mindful and non-reactive manner. Now , with some distance and time, do I feel ready to share. When I first brought my cat in, I explained that I was under significant financial strain after a recent move and job change. I was anxious, crying, and doing my best to ask realistic questions about his prognosis, whether treatment could help him recover or whether the focus might shift to comfort. Despite my efforts to be honest about my situation, I felt judged. At one point, the vet responded to me with, “Well, what do you mean by that?” when I said I had financial limits. Later, after treatment, I was told, “Since your budget could only cover $5,000, we did the best we could. He (the cat) really should stay another night but again since you have a budget we have to honor that I guess.” That statement left me feeling guilty, ashamed, and as though I had failed my cat, even though I had stretched myself and my family’s support as much as possible. I understand how challenging these conversations can be, and I deeply respect the work veterinarians do every day. I am sharing this now because I hope it can be used constructively. No client facing both medical and financial stress should leave feeling more guilt or shame than they already carry. Empathy and reassurance, even in difficult financial circumstances, can make an immeasurable difference. Thank you for listening, and again, for the care your team provided to my cat.

Fantastic experience: I couldn't have asked for a better visit with VEG. This was my first experience with an emergency vet and I would choose them again if I ever have another emergency situation. I was seen immediately as I walked in the door and had my cat on a table within the first five minutes upon arrival. The woman at the front desk was very nice and attentive. My cat was seen by Dr. Jacob S. with the help of Carlos and Avi (sorry I'm unsure of the spelling!). The Dr was thorough and explained everything to me and answered all of my questions. Luckily, it just ended up being an infection. I like how they were gentle and affectionate with my cat too. My cat's hair was severely matted and they shaved him just out of the kindness of their hearts. I was so grateful. Dr Schanks and Carlos worked together to shave him and then Avi had some extra time after the appointment so she was able to get the rest taken care of. She even brought me a snack while I waited :) They knew he would feel much better after that and they were right. They even clipped his nails. Thank you so much to the VEG team for your care!!! I appreciate it more than you know!

Fantastic experience: Wow was completely nervous walking into a pup ER! My pup had a seizure on a Saturday morning and needed over night care! For as nervous as I was when I arrived I was so relieved when leaving him in the care of the staff! They were over the top wonderful with our pup but they were equally wonderful to the nervous scared parents!! They explained our options very clearly to us and gave us the time to understand what was happening. Clearly an ER bill is going to be high but appreciate that they broke everything down and were willing discuss what treatment was needed and why in a very friendly manner! Thank you all for nursing our pup back to health while allowing us to be there!

Negative experience: I came in at 4:50 am because my dog was vomiting blood. There was one other dog there, two hours later she’s received no treatment and it’s normal business hours. They had 0 sense of urgency and tried to charge over 2,000 services, unnecessary tests etc for a vet not having even looked at her. Ended up having to pay a 100 for sedation and 200 for a visiting fee despite the fact no vet actually looked at her, 0 idea what’s wrong, and the staff took her vitals. while waiting in the radiology room I was alarmed to see a penis drawing on the glass- consistent w the frat like and laid back attitude being shown there. The front desk man was extremely rude when I simply asked why I’m being charged when she wasn’t treated or seen. Very disappointing with the lack of any urgency.

Fantastic experience: Upon returning from a work trip, I came home to a very sick dog as result from an irresponsible Rover sitter. Not knowing what my dog may have consumed or how much, I took him to VEG to be examined. From the moment he was admitted, to subsequent surgery and monitoring, the team was so caring and communicative. I felt like I could sleep well at night knowing he was being well taken care of. When his health further deteriorated, VEG acted efficiently and had him transferred to a specialist. I admire and respect their willingness to go above and beyond, and consult with their colleagues for trickier situations. Brewer is now back to full health, and that’s largely thanks to VEG and their wonderful staff. Joyce, their medical director, was very kind and repeatedly checked in even after his discharge to see how he was recovering. I will recommend VEG to anyone in the Chicago area!

Fantastic experience: I had to take my pup, Bean, to VEG immediately after a vet visit for potential bladder and kidney issues. We were seen immediately even though the vet seemed very busy upon arrival. Dr. Schanks and his team were so kind and compassionate and provided excellent care to Bean during his overnight hospitalization. The team was very transparent about his care plan and ensured they’d do everything they could to determine what issues were going on. I felt at ease knowing he was great hands and would recommend VEG in Lincoln Park to anyone that needs vet care. Thank you so much for taking amazing care of my Bean!

Fantastic experience: The whole team was so wonderful. Dr. Harbaugh and the morning team rushed my dog, Huck, in and got him immediate care as he was in critical condition. And through the night the entire staff was so great in caring for him and keeping me updated. I felt so comfortable leaving him in their care. I got to bring my baby home safe and alive when I wasn’t sure that was a possibility when I first brought him in. Thank you to the entire staff at VEG!

Fantastic experience: We’ve taken our pets to Veterinary Emergency Group three times: Once a few years ago, in a lifethreatening emergency where our dog Angie could not breathe - we called ahead while on our way, and the staff were there and waiting outside the clinic to carry her out of the car and onto a table for care. Again, a few months later, when we had to make decision to put our sweet Ang to sleep - the team were compassionate and loving, and made her last moments so comfortable and special. And a third time just today, just to fix up a little skin infection for our young goofball pup because we couldn’t get into any other clinics in time for a trip. We were in, seen by a doctor, and out in literally 10 minutes with everything we needed. Every single time, we’ve been so genuinely impressed with the kindness, efficiency, and communication of the VEG team. We recommend to everyone. Beyond grateful!

Fantastic experience: I wish I could rate this place higher. As an owner of 4 animals, this vet ER is by far AMAZING. Instant triage, amazing communication, and highly recommend DVM Megan Cave. She showed my kitty so much patience and I could tell with her interaction with him, that she isn’t instilling fear with his first official vet visit (unfortunately). Carter the desk receptionist and my triage and notes Vet Tech were absolutely stunning. Carter offered me coffee and snacks while waiting for the Dr. As an ER nurse, I was extremely shocked with how fast and prompt the team was. THANK YOU VEG!

Fantastic experience: Polite, professional and clean. Calm atmosphere, very well staffed, and no wait time thankfully. Highly recommend. Yes there will be some sticker shock but it’s an emergency clinic. Be prepared for that at any of them. They provided a detailed and organized estimate and listened to what I wanted to do first — and it turned out my suggestions were reasonable. A surprisingly positive experience, compared to other emergency vet visits at other places over the last 15 years. Go here first if it’s within your distance.

Negative experience: I found a bird that I believed was injured in the alleyway of my apartment building. I called VEG because local wildlife rehab centers were closed after 5pm. A doctor at VEG told me on the phone to bring him in. However, upon arriving, a condescending tech told me that “we should leave wildlife where it is.” I told the tech I spoke with a doctor who told me to bring in the bird and he stated “well I guess it’s okay then.” He went to get the doctor. When the doctor came over she examined the bird very briefly and decided not to take him in or provide care because he was a baby. I was told to put him back where I found him in the alley. 4 hours later, he is still in the alley and hasn’t moved much. I understand that VEG has to prioritize emergencies with people’s pets, but they shouldn’t tell people they can bring in wild birds and then shame them for “not leaving wildlife where they are” and turn them away. I didn’t even move him until I had confirmation I could bring him in. Now I feel like it was a mistake to even try. I’m hoping he makes it through the night and I can take him to a rehab center tomorrow morning.
