VEG ER for Pets

Fantastic experience: Thank you to the VEG ER team for taking such great care of my dog. From start to finish, everyone was incredibly friendly and compassionate. Even though they had never met my dog before, it was clear how much they truly love animals. Kibbi arrived after a couple of days of vomiting and had become lethargic and disoriented, so it was definitely time to seek emergency care. We could not be more pleased with the staff and the genuinely caring providers who helped him. While I certainly hope my little man never needs another ER visit, if the situation ever arises again, we will absolutely return to VEG ER.

Fantastic experience: Had an emergency with my cockapoo, Peanut butter cups at 2am. Brought him to VEG in Cary. Kristen, Dr. Diamond and Mario were the best. After blood work and xrays they found they Peanut butter has some inflammation in his disc's. After some pain meds at the hospital and some to take home, he's back to the fur baby I am use to. Since peanut has never been sick before this was very scary for me. The team kept me calm and explained everything. Very thankful for them and their care and compassion.

Fantastic experience: Those three days at VEG ER were among the worst days of our lives, but my pups, Dakota and Luna, could not have been at a better place to keep them alive after they overdosed on Apoquel. Everyone was friendly, attentive, thorough, competent, and patient. Thank you all so much for everything you did for our babies.

Fantastic experience: I cannot thank this Vet enough for the compassion they showed our senior dog, Mojo, and our family. At almost 16 years old, Mojo was in pain, and the staff helped us navigate the difficult decision to let him go with dignity. They were patient, understanding, and never rushed us. Their reassurance that we were doing what was best for him meant the world to me. Receiving a sympathy card in the mail today was such a thoughtful touch. If you need a vet that truly cares, this is the place.

Fantastic experience: I am very satisfied with the care that was given to my bunny. The vet, Dr. Marvin, was fabulous with my angry, not easy to handle, bunny Mabel. It was obvious that she truly cared about Mabel’s wellbeing, and me as well as a client. The vet nurses were just as kind and lovely, I believe their names were Jennifer and Sadie, I hope I didn’t remember them incorrectly. Hopefully my pets won’t need emergency care again anytime soon, but if it happens, I am without hesitation going back to VEG. Side note, my best friend had to bring his dog to the Chapel Hill location, and he had just as many positive things to say as I do.

Fantastic experience: When we arrived at the Cary location with my sick dog, I was blown away by the care and attention he received. You'd have thought we were at the Pitt. When we had to make the heart wrenching decision to give him peace...you'd have thought we were with family. Straight forward and no-nonsense, yet caring and compassionate. God bless these people, cannot recommend highly enough. 10 stars

Fantastic experience: Save my dogs life from a foreign body lodged in his intestine. VEG was amazing from the moment we arrived to check out. Between the techs and the doctors we never felt unsure of what was happening. We arrived on the winter storm weekend which could have added a layer of stress with travel and a sick dog staying overnight. To our surprise they have some rooms for these situations and helped us get comfortable. VEG has the unique experience of an open setting and they encourage you to be with your pet. We were even asked if we wanted to watch the surgery, which we did. Something very educational for myself and my teen son. We had a knowing by then that our furbaby was in very loving and capable hands. The level of prep for his surgery was on par with that of a human experience. Something to add is we were blessed with their angel fund for his surgery. This is a fund that we were told other pet parents donate to for families in need. As a single parent raising a child with special needs this was a blessing. We never felt less cared for and our sweet baby is three weeks out from surgery and is thriving. Lastly I will note that previous to this event we had called VEG on other weekends with some small random dog issues. Getting connected to a vet right away for some free advice is such a point of difference. On both occasions our issue was small enough to watch until we saw our primary vet. Further giving me the confidence that VEG employs people who care and are wanting to truly help our community of animal lovers. I hope that this review can give back in a small way the gratitude I have for the care we received that snowy weekend.

Fantastic experience: I just can’t compliment these folks enough! Everyone that I came in contact with there was so kind and caring, they took a real interest in my cat, Athos. I brought him in because he had stopped eating and began to vomit profusely.Every doctor took their time to explain all that was wrong and everything that they were going to do to help to fix it. It took a long time to work through Athos’ problems, but they were supportive and kept me in the loop the whole time. We had to stay overnight 2 times for fluids and meds and I was allowed to stay as long as I wanted. I was even allowed to be with him when he got his ultrasound. We eventually got better and made it back home with detailed instructions and the meds he needed. Even going home I felt well taken care of. I would tell everyone to go to VEG ER for Pets any time your pet needs help, you just can’t get better care.

Fantastic experience: Tried to take another one of my pets here tonight but they had more serious emergencies that understandably had to take priority so. I opted to try a different ER Vet. I should have stayed at VEG. Lesson learned Unfortunately, we had to take our senior dog in for a large laceration. The staff evaluated her right away and they gave her pain meds to make her comfortable quickly. We also were able to stay with her for the entire procedure. We were able to ask questions about everything. I will definitely recommend this business

Fantastic experience: Amazing place!! Dr. Blodgett, Christen, and the team were a delight to work with during such a stressful time. Everyone was incredibly calming and professional. It's different than most places, their lobby is also their treatment area. You never have to leave your pet's side if you don't want. I was respected and involved in every part of my dog's care. They have multiple amenities, a clean facility, and transparent pricing. Hopefully you don't end up in an emergent situation, but if you do, you should bring your pet here. You will be in excellent hands.

Fantastic experience: Brought our dachshund in last Saturday due to his disinterest in food, lethargy, distended stomach, among other symptoms. The team at VEG wasted no time and acted very quickly to get him comfortable and start to identify the source of the issue. They found quickly that there was a large mass and a lot of liquid in his abdomen and provided us options. We opted for surgery and the team helped us transfer our dog to NC State for what ended up being an emergency splenectomy for a splenic mass that had ruptured. He is currently still recovering post op. The doctor at VEG made that transfer happen so quickly and did not give up until there was somewhere we could take him. We don't know what the future holds for our baby since we don't have results back from pathology on what the mass was but what we do know is without the team at VEG reacting so quickly, our dog likely would not be with us today. We cannot express enough how much we appreciated their urgency, clear communication, and compassion for what we were experiencing last Saturday. Thank you again!

Fantastic experience: We brought our Boston Terrier, Elon, in a couple of times this past weekend due to cluster seizures. As you can imagine, we were completely overwhelmed and heartbroken. From the moment we arrived at VEG, however, we felt an immediate sense of comfort and reassurance. The level of care, compassion, and attentiveness shown to both Elon and our family truly put us at ease during an incredibly difficult time. Every member of the team was professional, kind, and deeply committed to helping our little guy. Their empathy and expertise made all the difference. Because of their dedication, we were given more precious time with him, and for that, we will be forever grateful. I wish I could personally thank each individual who cared for us this weekend. Unfortunately, after days without sleep, everything has become a bit of a blur, and I’m afraid my memory isn’t at its sharpest. Please know that our gratitude extends to every single person who played a role in Elon’s care. If you ever find yourself in need of emergency veterinary services, I wholeheartedly recommend VEG. The quality of care and compassion they provide truly exceeds expectations.

Fantastic experience: This animal hospital and their staff are phenomenal. The rooms are comfortable, and there are great snacks and refreshments available. Watching the team care for other pets was a delight. There is true compassionate care displayed. I highly recommend this ER for pets.

Fantastic experience: Love love love this place. Came here tonight and you instantly got greeted and opened the door for you. There were very friendly, got my guniea pig stabilized. I would have never came to this place but im so glad i did because the just made a good impact on my furball. Will be coming back to this place if needed!!!

Fantastic experience: The VEG ER for pets in Cary provided excellent care when we brought our dog Charlie in at midnight because of vomiting. From the moment we walked through the doors, every single person we encountered was kind, compassionate, and genuinely caring. During two visits within a 12-hour period, we were initially seen by Dr. Jill Fulford and subsequently by Dr. Katie Groves. Both physicians took the time to explain everything clearly and thoroughly, answering all of our questions without rushing us. Their teams, along with the technicians and front desk staff, demonstrated equally attentiveness and professionalism. An additional distinguishing feature of this facility is its open-concept approach, which permits us to remain with Charlie during all treatments and tests. Staff addressed all of our inquiries thoroughly and promptly, regardless of their frequency or complexity. It’s obvious that everyone there truly loves animals and understands how deeply we love them too. The level of professionalism, combined with heartfelt compassion, is rare and deeply appreciated. I am so grateful we had them during an emergency and would highly recommend this facility to anyone who needs exceptional, caring veterinary support.

Fantastic experience: My cat was presenting symptoms for a UTI, and it was 6 am. My usual vet wasn’t open and I knew it would be difficult to get a same-day appointment. I came to VEG for emergency care at 6:30 am, and the staff was wonderful. They are knowledgeable, professional, explained all the treatment options and pricing, and I was able to stay with my cat through the entire appointment. Highly recommend!

Fantastic experience: We had a medical emergency with our dog Cooper and brought him to Veterinary Emergency Group (VEG) in Cary. What started as a GI issue turned into a diagnosis of Addison’s disease, and I can honestly say the team was outstanding from start to finish. They were thorough, thoughtful, and communicative. Every step of the process; imaging, labs, treatment options was explained clearly and calmly. When Cooper needed to stay overnight, they kept us informed and allowed me to be present, which meant a great deal to me. Most importantly, they didn’t stop at surface-level treatment. They identified the underlying issue, started appropriate therapy immediately, and within hours we saw real improvement. Cooper is home, stable, and eating again because of their expertise. We are extremely grateful for the level of care, professionalism, and compassion shown by the entire VEG team. If you ever need emergency veterinary care, this is where you want to be.

Fantastic experience: This is the second time I’ve taken my rabbit here and I love them! Everyone is always so kind and caring for both patient and owner. They were very transparent with pricing and what treatments and home care needs to be done post-visit. Will always recommend them for emergency rabbit care <3

Fantastic experience: Dr. Moore and the team here are amazing. I believe our techs name was Taylor (sorry if I’m wrong!!). Our cat got attacked by our foster, and it was the first time we had ever had to take her to a vet for an injury like this. It was after 10pm and we were very emotional but the entire VEG team was calm, kind, and incredibly gentle to my very scared cat. They were communicative about treatment the entire way through, and answered all of our questions without judgment. We were able to stay with her the whole time, which made the entire experience less stressful. Thank you to the whole team!

Fantastic experience: Excellent service. I called before 6 am as my dog woke up with the right side of his face swollen. I took him right in and was seen right away. Everyone we came in contact was very sweet and caring towards myself and my dog. They explained everything in detail. I would highly recommend them for ER services!

Negative experience: DO NOT come here unless you want to spend $190 fr nothing. My dog was taken in a room, the dr couldn’t get any vitals. Dr left and said we would receive a text with a care plan. 10 mins later, a $1200 bill for an xray and pain meds. We decided the our normal vet would save us $600 if we waited a few more hours. Also once we decided we didn’t want to spend that amount we were told we could leave and no one said bye, good luck or anything. I was told the dr would come in and let us know what things to look out for etc and she never came back. Not a good first experience at all. Make sure you have $1,000 atleast to blow even if you end up with meds.

Negative experience: Never again will I bring my Shepherd here again. They mis-diagnised his condition and almost cost him his life. We ended up going to Triangle Veterinary Referral Hospital in Durham to their Neurologist to save our pup. I even called VEG back pleading to recheck their diagnosis. The Dr I dealt with ask the others and stuck with their diagnosis. When we brought him to TVRH and they looked at him, they said that VEG's diagnosis would be the last thing they would believe him to have. So think about that before you trust your family treasure to them. Seeing a Neurologist wasn't cheap....but he is still here with us because we did.

Fantastic experience: The staff at VEG were absolutely wonderful, from my initial phone call to help determine whether my dog, Hazel, needed to be seen, through check-in and our visit with the veterinarian. The entire team was kind, attentive, and reassuring during a stressful situation. Dr. Kristen Blodgett was incredibly thorough, compassionate, and gentle with my dog. She took the time to explain everything clearly and made sure Hazel was comfortable throughout the visit. I am truly grateful for the care and support we received and would highly recommend VEG to any family or friends in need of emergency veterinary care.

Negative experience: Came here because my dog was urinating blood clots. Waited 2 hours to be told it was not an emergency and that if we wanted her to be seen by the vet we’d have to wait another hour. Meanwhile the vet was not seeing patients the entire time we were there, she saw one dog while we were waiting when there were at least 5 animals in the building. Horrible time management. Horrible customer service for a place that is supposed to care for your pet. I wish we would’ve been told when we got there it wasn’t an emergency.

Fantastic experience: Had no desire to need to rush to the ER vet at 8pm with snow on the roads but glad we chose VEG. Great staff. Quick triage. Rushed with a phone on low battery and staff got me a charger to use.

Fantastic experience: Our puppy swallowed a ball and needed to get surgery. We were referred to the Veg all the way from Wilmington. They were so great to us and our pup from check in to discharge. Everyone was kind, compassionate, thorough, and professional. I was a crying mess and Mario specifically treated me with so much kindness and reassured me my dog was going to come out of this ok. Dr. P was fantastic and his surgery went so smoothly with no complications. They were so accommodating and allowed us to sleep there in a cozy room overnight and even snuggle with our baby when he was post op. We were there for about 18 hours in total, and the whole team on various shifts were quick and communicative. Reggie had constant care and frequent check ins. We are so grateful for their care and responsiveness and now we get to take our sweet baby home. Great place!!

Fantastic experience: Dr. Nina G and Dr. Buckley and the entire staff were incredible!! They treated our pup with the best care and had so much kindness, patience, and incredible bedside manner. I cannot thank them and the team enough for being so wonderful. I’d highly recommend taking your pet here!! Thank you all so much!!

Fantastic experience: My cat was having some urinary issues after a major surgery and VEG got her taken care of. Can’t stress enough how kind and helpful Dr. Diamond and all other staff members that I interacted with were, especially considering how heavy their job can be. They went above and beyond for my cat and did everything they could to keep her comfortable. I could tell they are all animal lovers who truly care about each one brought to them. Thank you all <3

Fantastic experience: We brought our Doberman, Charlotte, to VEG Cary during a medical emergency, and the care we received was exceptional. From the moment we walked in, the team acted quickly, calmly, and with genuine compassion—exactly what you hope for in a high-stress situation. Dr. Diamond and her team were clear, thoughtful, and incredibly reassuring throughout the entire process. Communication was excellent, questions were welcomed, and nothing felt rushed. One moment that really stood out was Dr. Diamond’s perspective on canine longevity—reminding us that age is not a disease. That was refreshing and deeply appreciated. Charlotte is now back to her old self—full attitude, eating well, and clearly feeling better. We’re incredibly grateful for the outcome and the professionalism, kindness, and care shown by the entire VEG Cary team.

Fantastic experience: Today I brought my ferret in who was not feeling very well and everyone was so so great and trying to help! we specifically worked with dr Ashley Buckley and she was absolutely fabulous! So flexible with our need's,and willing to work with us! the first picture shows how my ferret looked when we brought her to the vet and the second picture is how she looks a week later!!! i 100% recommend the veterinary emergency group for any animal you have!!

Fantastic experience: The team works in full display of everyone in an open room, which is something I didn't even know I needed and should be a vetenary hospital standard. So reassuring as a client to see a team work together so confidently and competently. Clear sign of strong leadership and a crew that is passionate and skilled. Thank you guys

Fantastic experience: We had a great experience at VEG and highly recommend them for any emergency needs. Our dog ingested a large amount of chocolate and their staff was extremely calm, walked us through the process and ensured we were comfortable with the care plan before moving forward. Special shout out to Dr. Blodgett who was friendly and very intelligent. Our dog ended up recovering smoothly and is back to his normal self, but I don’t doubt it would’ve ended differently had we not taken him to VEG. Thank you for all your help!

Fantastic experience: I will always be grateful to the staff and doctors at Veg. My cat had to stay overnight due to an unknown illness and the staff was always so compassionate to not only my sweet boy, but to me as well. They were patient when I had millions of questions, listened to me when I had concerns, and always communicated plans and options so I never felt confused or lost. Thank you to everyone who works here! It is expensive, but the pricing breakdown is clear and understandable.

Fantastic experience: A friend of mine discovered a kitten in her front yard , and it had a rectum prolapse. From the moment we walked in the door everyone was helpful and encouraging , and they did everything they could to help save this poor little kitten from her poor backside. She is going to have a slow recovery.And she has stitches in her backside , as well. I am frank and not saying enough of how much they hope this year and how understanding and considerate they were in every aspect of this kitten's care. Thanks to their vigilance we found someone to foster her.And hopefully be a permanent home. Thank you so much, everyone at VEG of Cary, NC Raleigh.

Fantastic experience: I have never experienced a pet emergency and it was New Year’s Day- after hours- I truly was concerned that the staff ( Cary location) would be less than happy to be working but this team was amazing!! My dog is as in pain and aggressive and they supported me and my pet. I work in the medical field and work extremely hard to take care of our complicated patients with compassion- like I would want my friends and family cared for- well- the entire team at VEG did that not only for me and my dog but for every family and pet there that night. If I could rate them all higher than a five-I would! Exceptional!! So thankful for all of them!!

Negative experience: We brought a cat in for treatment of an unknown problem, and called ahead about price and what we would need to pay. They claimed they would take the costs, wasted nearly 6 hours waiting around, for them to not only charge us, but then prescribe an antibiotic that is too weak to do anything, and then charge us something like 500 dollars, essentially for absolute NOTHING. If I could rate zero stars, I could. If you have nothing better to do, and infinite funds for whatever they want to milk out of you, this is the place for you! If you're literally ANYONE else, go anywhere else. I have never seen a more baffling veterinary experience in my life.

Fantastic experience: The team at VEG Cary is absolutely amazing!!! Our cat is so so very spicy. We have had several experiences where our cat cannot get care because the other clinics we have gone to can't get around his spice level. We have always avoided taking him into a clinic, but in emergency situations we have no choice but to take him in. The team here knew exactly how to handle our cat and he was able to get the care he needed. They were so calm, kind, gentle, and brave. Exactly what our cat needed. Our cat has very high anxiety and gets very very scared at vets and with strangers but the team here was able to administer the medicine he needed and kindly helped with clean up afterwards. They are angels!! I only wish that the team here also did regular vet visit care for cats because I would definitely take my loved one here.

Fantastic experience: I want to thank everyone on the staff that helped Chewy on a last minute call Christmas Day. You were all very professional and helped us through this hard time. You were both compassionate and very honest with us. I was hoping the outcome would have been different but you helped us through a very difficult decision. Chewy is in a better place and you made him very comfortable. Thank the whole team, you are all the very best.

Fantastic experience: Your care was EXTRAORDINARY. I cannot type this without crying, but it needs to be said that you were there for my beloved pet, and you were there for the humans, too. You are ALL rockstars. Thank you from the bottom of my heart.

Fantastic experience: everyone was sooo sweet and helpful in caring for my scooby. I was amazed at how well the team worked together and got us out so fast with treatment. thank you guys so much for giving my baby all the snuggles and pets!!

Fantastic experience: Highly recommend this facility- it’s a completely different experience from other vets/ERs in all the right ways. Top notch. Being able to be with my dog the entire time and seeing the staff care for others in professional and prioritized ways was so impressive.

Negative experience: as soon as we walked in they grabbed my cat by the back of the neck causing him severe distress. they were completely unhelpful and acted like my animal was a biohazard. ended up leaving after about 2 hours with absolutely no answers on why my cats front legs stopped working. they proceeded to charge me $190 for doing absolutely nothing but making the situation worse.

Fantastic experience: Brought my sweet elder kitty named Big plump to the ER late Wednesday evening around 10:30. I had her euthanasia appointment just the next day to have her put to sleep… but she decided she was ready to go that night. When I arrived all the staff were extremely comforting and kind. They had such a peaceful process for putting my sweet kitty to rest and giving me all the space and time i needed to process her death. Im so grateful I picked this Emergency Vet to go to… thank you to all the staff who guided me through that confusing and scary process. Im grateful for all your kind words and actions. I know my kitty is grateful for such a caring and gentle exit from this world.

Positive experience: They are attentive, show they care and quick to get to you when you initially arrive. But they take forever afterwards and to give any results from tests. They said it would be 3-6 days to get results to finally get some answers after 5 visits and 2 surgeries but sitting here at 10 days and was just told results won’t be available until the 18th…while my cat continues to throw up, lose weight (has already lost 10lbs) and not showing much signs of improvement. Just very frustrating.

Fantastic experience: Right at first, Dr. Wetzel and Mario helped me all night as I tried to reach Kaia (my dog)'s co-owner. They made Kaia comfortable, and talked me through everything while listening to my emotional concerns. They truly reassured me and treated me with respect and Kaia with love. (Everyone did, but I didn't catch everyone's names). Then, Dr. P (Sarah) operated on Kaia with Ashton's nursing help. They, alone with Caitlin, took such outstanding care of my baby girl all day. Finally, another doctor (didn't remember their name, but she was so kind... Robin maybe?) offered support during staff transition. Once things got busy and Kaia was about ready for discharge, Dr. Erin (?) helped me feel comfortable about bringing her home. Mario walked us through all the discharge info. Everyone on staff fell in love with my Kaia girl, and I trusted them implicitly! It is pricey, but also 100% worth it.

Fantastic experience: The team was awesome. My little doggie Justice got the best treatment. I will give them a five star anytime. Dr. Diamond is awesome. KAA’s is also great. I would definitely recommend them for anyone who wants top quality care for their pet.

Fantastic experience: I went here with my leopard gecko, the Dr s were all amazing and kind. Mori for the best care and even though she doesn't communicate like mammals they did their best. While I was there another family lost their fur baby, it was girly heartbreaking, I watched the staff comfort that family and then each other. Love this place.

Fantastic experience: Our regular vet sent us to VEG ER yesterday and I couldn’t be happier with the care my dog received! Every person we came into contact with was compassionate, competent, and went out of their way to answer our questions and make us comfortable with the care Olive was receiving. She wound up needing to stay overnight and we received detailed updates of how she was doing. I hope to never need their services again but would not hesitate at all to return if the need ever arises!

Fantastic experience: I brought my baby in on Saturday afternoon on November 29th sje was deathly sick. We didn't know but she had Pyometra and was seriously ill. But every person we came in contact with at the ER was absolutely amazing. Without VEG I really fear my baby wouldn't be here today. First picture is before and second is 2 days later coming home.

Fantastic experience: This emergency animal hospital was the perfect place for our visit today. Everyone was super nice, we were greeted at the door, and were attended to very quickly. We will definitely return if we have another emergency.

Fantastic experience: The staff and doctors at VEG were excellent. We brought our dog in because she was vomiting blood and having bloody diarrhea. The team managing her care were so friendly and responsive to our questions and concerns. After 2 nights at VEG for IV fluids and meds our dog is home happy and recovering!

Fantastic experience: I was absolutely terrified when my dog was bitten in my neighborhood by an unleashed dog. Being an emergency situation that occurred after hours on the weekend, I couldn’t go to my regular vet. As soon as I called VEG panicked, the staff helped calm me down and assured me they would be able to take care of my dog. When we arrived at the clinic, his injuries were immediately assessed by their care team And a doctor. I felt very safe and cared for by the team in this traumatic situation. My puppy is doing fine. Thank you VEG team

Negative experience: Avoid. Read the other reviews. This is a money hungry vet. I came in with a Cat that needed stitches. They said 6,000 and no gurantee. Went to the restroom. Next thing you know, it's put your cat down time. I took my cat to another vet and they fixed her up for me! Worst night of my life. I was seeing RED!

Fantastic experience: Went to the Veterinary Emergency Group Where a 15 month old male cat for the first time. Impressed with the speed and attentiveness of staff, including specific tests to verify/confirm my primary vet’s Tentative diagnosis (FIP). You definitely pay for the immediacy of the test, testing and diagnosis, but it’s done in a highly professional and thorough manner, while allowing/encouraging owner participation for all tests/events.. Spent five hours with him the second day and through two tests, prior to bringing him home that evening. Received a 24 page summary of treatment that included detailed test results..

Fantastic experience: Last Saturday we had to bring our dog to the Vet ER, and despite it being very busy, the entire staff at this facility couldn’t have treated us and our dog any better. We had to make some really hard decisions while we were there, and ended up saying goodbye to our bestest boy in the world. It was incredibly heartbreaking, and still is, but Dr. Moore and the rest of the staff were kind and compassionate beyond belief. I noticed that despite being busy, Dr. Moore and each staff member took time to personally interact with each person and their pets. All in all this is a top notch facility, and the staff showed the highest level of professionalism and compassion. Tough experience being there, but I don’t know how they could’ve done any better.

Fantastic experience: I came here on the worst night of my life. My senior pug was struggling to breathe and I ultimately had to say goodbye to him. While the care is expensive it was so worth it and I will never forget the kindness and compassion they showed me and my baby. They stabilized him so I could have a little more time with him and they truly went above and beyond to make an unbearable experience as gentle and beautiful as possible. Everyone was so kind, soft-spoken, and genuinely caring. The way they kissed his wrinkly forehead… The tray of brownies, treats, and Hershey’s Kisses they brought for him… The way they whispered, “You are so loved” as he was about to pass… And the tenderness with which they carried his body out after he passed… It was all more than I ever expected and it made this heartbreaking moment a little more bearable. Thank you from the bottom of my heart.

Fantastic experience: I recently lost my job, and my cat Luna had been rapidly losing weight. I took her to a vet in Knightdale who charged me $500 for diagnostic tests that showed nothing was wrong. As Luna stopped eating, I went to another vet whose prices were again too high for me to afford, but they referred me to this emergency veterinary clinic — and I’m so thankful they did. The young male veterinarian working the overnight shift showed genuine compassion and empathy for both Luna and me. Despite my financial hardship, he treated us with kindness and respect. He performed an abdominal ultrasound and discovered that my sweet girl had cancer that had already begun to spread. While other vets wanted to run endless expensive tests without answers, this doctor gave me three clear options and guided me through one of the hardest decisions I’ve ever had to make — to let Luna go peacefully and end her suffering. Words can’t express my gratitude for this doctor and his staff. They went above and beyond, showing true compassion when I needed it most. Thank you for treating Luna with dignity and for reminding me that there are still people who care deeply, no matter someone’s financial situation. I will forever be grateful for your kindness, honesty, and humanity.

Fantastic experience: We had a great experience once the ball started rolling on the treatment for our cat, Totoro. The vet techs helping us were all very nice, knowledgeable, and had good sense of urgency. Our doctor gave us a little scare at the beginning of the treatment, but came back to comfort us after learning more about the case. It was a complicated case, and not too high priority triage, so we did end up waiting a long time to start treatment (about 4 hours after arriving). The procedure, once everything started going, went very smoothly and everyone was very attentive to us. Updates were given in detail and often. We stayed with Totoro the whole time and think that was such a huge benefit for his comfort. Dr. Johnson did a great job with the endoscope, it was quick! and navigating a complicated situation with sedating a kitten who’s had a seizure in the past from being sedated. And special thanks to Marilyn for being so kind, patient, and skillful. She allowed us to be there every step of the way for our Totoro. We felt included and assured which was essential for us.

Fantastic experience: I would like to express my deepest appreciation for the exceptional care provided by Dr. Wetzel and her team at VEG Cary during a recent emergency involving my 11-year-old German Shepherd, Louie. We presented to the clinic on a Friday evening after Louie began exhibiting signs consistent with obstructive shock. Upon arrival, he was promptly triaged, and within minutes Dr. Wetzel performed a point of care ultrasound, identifying that Louie was in acute heart failure secondary to a large pericardial effusion causing cardiac tamponade. The efficiency and clinical acumen demonstrated during this rapid assessment were outstanding. Given that Louie had been active and healthy only days prior, the diagnosis came as a shock. In that moment, when clear and ethical decision-making felt nearly impossible, Dr. Wetzel and her staff provided calm, compassionate guidance and took the time to clearly explain our treatment options. We elected to pursue a palliative approach focused on extension of quality time and life. The technical staff were equally impressive—professional, patient, and attentive both to Louie and to us as understandably anxious owners. The pericardiocentesis was performed quickly and effectively by Dr. Wetzel and another veterinarian (whose name, unfortunately, I did not catch), leading to immediate hemodynamic improvement and clinical stabilization. In addition to the outstanding care Louie received, I was struck by the professionalism of the entire team that night. While maintaining patient privacy, I could overhear the staff coordinating and triaging multiple concurrent emergencies with remarkable composure and efficiency. It was clear that every animal in their care was receiving timely, skilled, and compassionate attention. While Louie’s long-term prognosis remains grim, I am pleased to report that he has since returned to his bright, energetic self. Thanks to Dr. Wetzel and the team at VEG, we have been given the invaluable gift of additional, quality time with our best friend -for which we are profoundly grateful.

Fantastic experience: took my bunny here yesterday night when she seemed to most likely be going through GI stasis, barely moving and refusing to eat. they gave her some medicine and sent me home with some stuff to feed her and as of this morning she seems good as new.. hopping and jumping around, eating as usual, playing with her brother. though if i remember correctly the veterinarian working with our bunny did tell me she was not an exotic pet specialist, she was great to us and still treated my bun with utmost care and seemed reasonably knowledgeable on rabbit health and husbandry. The other staff members were equally as kind and had sufficient general knowledge on rabbits as well. Although the bill was a teensy bit more than I’d have liked it to be, i think that’s always the case with anything medical whether it be for humans or animals, especially in emergency situations. There was no wait time to be seen when i arrived. I felt that the visit was not necessarily super “quick” but was definitely resolved within a reasonable amount of time, as it took about two hours to get in and out, including check in, treatment, and check out. Overall my experience was positive, no real complaints. I would recommend this vet if youre facing an emergency situation. And to the staff of VEG- thank you for helping Muffin feel better! If anything else ever happens to my buns i will definitely be bringing them here again.

Negative experience: I had an extremely upsetting experience tonight at Veterinary Emergency Group (VEG) in Cary, specifically with Dr. Katie Groves. Our rescue brought in a 2-week-old orphaned puppy with pneumonia. As the founder of a 501(c)(3) neonatal rescue, I’m used to working with emergency vets and understand the realities of critical care. The attending veterinarian called to discuss the puppy’s condition and immediately quoted $6,000–$8,000 for hospitalization. When I politely explained that this was outside of our nonprofit’s budget, the tone of the conversation changed completely. Dr. Groves responded dismissively, saying, “I only want what’s best for the puppy,” in a tone that felt accusatory — as if implying that I didn’t. When I tried to explain that the funds simply did not exist, she became short, condescending, and ended the call abruptly — literally hanging up without closing the conversation. She offered no alternative treatment options. Not a single mention of supportive care, antibiotics, or at-home management — just an all-or-nothing $8,000 hospitalization or euthanasia. After hanging up on me, she then told my foster parent, “That puppy is suffering and needs to be put to sleep,” causing unnecessary guilt and distress. When I arrived in person, Dr. Groves again insisted on euthanasia. I calmly reminded her that the last two puppies she told us to euthanize at this same hospital are now alive and thriving — because we treated them appropriately at home with veterinary oversight elsewhere. Her response was a cold, “Well, that’s against my advice, but whatever you want.” Her demeanor was unprofessional, dismissive, and completely lacking in compassion. As an organization that works closely with emergency hospitals across North Carolina, I was genuinely excited when VEG opened in Cary. Unfortunately, this experience has left us deeply disappointed and unwilling to return. We expect veterinarians — especially those in emergency care — to provide collaborative, respectful, and solution-oriented care, even when financial limitations exist. Compassion should never depend on someone’s ability to pay thousands of dollars. I hope VEG leadership takes this feedback seriously and reinforces the importance of empathy, communication, and professional respect when dealing with rescue groups and pet owners in crisis.

Fantastic experience: VEG was a fantastic experience. If you’re at an emergency vet, you’re already worried but they quickly alleviated those fears. The staff at VEG was attentive, knowledgeable, and fast. The environment is great and you stay with your animal rather than having them taken away to a room without their owner. I hope you don’t need an emergency vet, but if you do, this is the place to go.

Fantastic experience: This veterinary group is amazing without a doubt the best I’ve ever seen in 72 years of life I came in the middle of the night. I was stressed. My dog was very sick to the point where I thought he was gonna die. I was financially troubled due to an emergency they spoke to me on the phone gave me a doctor immediately Care and concern was obvious they told me to come in. I made the trip in at 3 o’clock in the morning, everyone was fresh polite, helpful, explanatory, and patient. The service was fantastic. I thought my dog was gonna die. Bring him in. They straightened everything out for me and they really deserve every good comment they can get. I highly recommend this office for an emergency visit.

Fantastic experience: THE BEST! The amazing doctors and care team gave the best care to our sweet boy Beaufort. They quickly found, diagnosed and developed a care plan that was very effective for him. The entire staff were welcoming to us and answered every question and concern. We loved the open door policy so we could visit whenever and without feeling rushed. So thankful for everything they did for our family!!

Fantastic experience: Just came back from treating my dog after he ate grapes. This was my first time at this facility. I was so impressed by how welcoming and easy it was to get my dog in. I felt totally taken care of. They were not only compassionate and mindful of my dog and his anxiety, but, I observed how they treated the other patients and their pets. Fantastic experience: We took my hamster to VEG last night and everyone was so kind and caring. My hamster cut her face and was in bad condition. The staff cleaned her off, gave her a pain shot, and sent her home with some meds and food. They were very thorough and detailed. I would take her here again and would recommend them for anyone’s pet.

Fantastic experience: Brought my cat here that had a urinary obstruction. They quickly swept into action and explained everything thoroughly. While quite a bit pricier than most places, the level of care, attention and overall open concept of being able to come in and be with your pet any hour of the day or night is 100% worth it. One of the nurses even offered us one of those human sized dog beds and blankets if we wanted to stay through the night. Our little guy is anxious whenever not with his family, so being able to be near during a stressful time helped him immensely!

Fantastic experience: Dr. Landry and her team impressed me with their immediate concern and jumping right into action. They included us in every step of the decision-making process, explaining treatment options and their costs. As an Emergency Vet service, they are fairly pricey. However, after seeing the full team in action and watching the care with which Dr. Landry took when performing surgery on our cat, I'm not going to complain. Thank you, VEG Cary for treating our Gizmo and us as part of your own family.

Fantastic experience: We unfortunately had to be referred here by our vet due to a possible obstruction. When we arrived the staff was expecting us and immediately greeted us and got vitals. I was a little surprised by how open the triage area was because I have never been to a place that has that before. It was a little hard seeing other people going through an emotional and traumatic time and seeing hurt/sick animals. However, all the staff were very attentive to everyone and the transparency of it all made it so you could see they were treating more critical patients first and not purposely putting others on the back burner. I also got used to it fairly quickly and if the openness means that I could stay with my dog the whole time then it's worth the initial discomfort of it. Every single person that helped us was incredibly personable, helpful, reassuring, and transparent. They treated my dog with all the love and they explained everything very well and did everything they could to ease my nerves. Also the fact that I was able to stay with my dog the ENTIRE time was such a relief to both of us. I was even able to spend the night with my dog and the staff made sure to keep us both as comfortable as possible during our stay. Thankfully everything turned out ok for us! But I cannot recommend this place enough to take care of your furry love during a very difficult time.

Fantastic experience: By far the best experience I’ve ever had with a vet. Brought my cat in for what I thought was just a urinary issue but they found issues my regular vet never found on top of the reason I brought my cat there to begin with. The found a heart issue, asthma, as well as bladder stones. They care about the animals and it shows. We were there for 5 hours and the entire staff was wonderful. Would recommend them to anyone!!

Fantastic experience: Let's get a few things out of the way: Going to an emergency veterinary center in the middle of the night is going to be stressful and expensive - this will always be the case. But when your pet is experiencing an emergency and your regular veterinary office is closed, you accept those facts. And if you're smart/lucky you end up at VEG Cary. My cat swallowed several feet of heavy duty thread off of my sewing machine, which ended up caught around his tongue and basically anchored, running through his entire GI tract and causing his intestines to bunch up. This is a critical emergency because when the string is pulled fully taut it basically becomes a blade and can slice the intestine. My cat had increasingly severe vomiting in the evening (a Saturday) after swallowing the string and did eventually vomit a large wad of string - my vet was closed and I called VEG, and was shocked/impressed that my call to inquire about whether I needed to bring my cat in was directed straight to an actual vet! I conferred with the vet who explained the concerns/risks and limitations of imaging, and DID NOT PRESSURE me to come in, but gave me a list of signs to watch for. Ultimately I followed this vet's advice and when my cat continued to vomit we decided to take him in. They were clear and direct about costs throughout. I got the sense that pricing was completely fair and appropriate for highly skilled/specialized emergency work. At every step thorough, clinical explanations were provided for assessments done and care needed/provided. The space is mostly entirely open, and the work areas are visible, and I was included in my cat's assessments and care - this was really important for me and super helpful during my decision making process. There are several highly skilled, compassionate, knowledgeable nurses circulating and caring for patients on the floor (like at a human ER) and the doctors make rounds and provide a lot of education also. They even had a little snack/water cart making the rounds to check on waiting families. The practice was very busy but I never felt forgotten or ignored. My cat would have died if we didn't get into VEG and have our cat seen. He likely would've been diagnosed and surgically saved at any other ER vet, but the difference having used VEG is that I felt cared for, informed, confident in the skilled of my provider and confident taking my pet home for recovery (that I understood and am capable of doing what he needs as follow up). I am so glad to have found this facility, and while I hope to never need them again, I do feel very reassured knowing where I will go in the future for any veterinary emergencies. Thank you, team!

Fantastic experience: I had to put my dog down on Thursday and the VEG team was truly amazing. The care and time they took to ensure that my Lizzie was comfortable and that I had support was unmatched. I did not go in thinking that it would be her time, but they helped to ensure that I was making the best decision, so that my sweet girl would not suffer anymore. The vet that put Lizzie down and the vet that stood with me while I tried to figure out my finances helped to make the experience the least traumatizing that it could have possibly been. While, I still can’t believe my Lizzie has passed, the Veg Care Team will always be a positive part of that experience. Thank you.

Fantastic experience: Super sweet staff, triaged my dog Daisy almost immediately, was in and out in under an hour, extremely impressed with the speed and diligence of their work. Even though it was just my dog not feeling well, they still took it upon themselves to do their best work. I really appreciate it and I am definitely going to go back again if anything happens:)

Fantastic experience: Unfortunately, my dog had an allergic reaction after being outdoors and exposed to something environmental. I called VEG based on the recommendation from my Vet’s voicemail since it was after hours. The staff at VEG encouraged me to come in based on my dogs swollen symptoms. From the moment I walked in they immediately started to treat him. The entire time we were there we felt that the entire staff cared about us and all of the families and their animals that walked in. Thankfully my dog is on the mend and I’m forever grateful for the kind, caring staff at VEG. Highly recommend!

Negative experience: Under no circumstances bring your pet to see Dr Hannah Marvin. Usually, I like to give people the benefit of the doubt. I know Hannah does not represent the whole of VEG. On that note, I can not praise the rest of the staff enough. They were kind, attentive, and so so helpful. They checked on us, gave us snacks and water, and gave actual sound advise for my cats treatment. Unfortunately, we did not receive that same quality of treatment from Hannah. Quite the opposite. The moment Hannah walked into the room, we were met with an attitude. I shook it off cuz ya know, could just be a rough night, a one off thing. That was until she began making weird/snide remarks. Sadly, this behavior from Hannah continued for the rest of our visit. We were treated with a shocking lack of empathy and professionalism. Im not going to go into great detail about some of the things hannah said but I knew I wanted to share what I can in this moment to prevent other cat owners from going through what I went through. Throughout the entire treatment, Hannah was rude, condescending, and passive aggressive. So much so that after she and the vet tech left the room, the vet tech came back almost immediately to check on us and apologized on her behalf. While her poor attitude was enough to make me never want to come back to VEG, what happened next is what compelled me to share my experience here. Towards the end of our visit, I requested hannah recheck my cats temperature to see if it had gone down since his arrival to VEG. Hannah was combative, stating, “it’s not going to make a difference” I told her I understood, but it would put my anxiety at ease. Hannah shrugged and said “ok”. She proceeded to grab my cat by the end of his tail with one hand, and shove the thermometer in with the other. With NO warning. I was beside myself. I watched in horror as my cat yowled in pain and attempted to get away. I immediately reached for him and said to let go of his tail. I have NEVER seen such poor mishandling of a cat by a vet before. It was an absolute disregard for his safety. I then requested a copy of my cats blood work and records to take to his usual vet the next day. Hannah said “I’m not done with the note yet, I’ll finish it later and send it to you” Did I ever get that note? Nope. Please save yourself the turmoil and have your pet see someone else.

Positive experience: The other night we were referred by our primary vet to VEG due to an obstruction in our 7-month-old puppy. When we arrived, we were greeted right away and the staff made us feel cared for from the start. The initial plan explained to us sounded great, but when the bill came, it was much higher than anticipated. Our vet had quoted us $6–8k for surgery, and considering we had already spent $1.5k earlier that day, we were debating whether to wait until morning or proceed with VEG. I did feel that once it became clear we were concerned about affording the bill, the doctor seemed less engaged with us and prioritized others ahead. That being said, the nurses showed incredible empathy and compassion, and thanks to them we were able to work out a plan that ultimately turned out better than we expected. Overall, the staff was wonderful—helpful, caring, and supportive throughout a very stressful time. The only difficulty was the financial aspect, as everything had to be paid up front before treatment could begin. While we’re extremely grateful to the team for helping our pup, it does feel like the company’s policies lean more toward finances than patient care, even though the staff themselves genuinely care about the animals.

Fantastic experience: This is the saddest place i have ever been to, sick pets and crying humans everywhere. Idk how these superheroes work here! I would be a sobbing mess every day. I am so so so thankful that they do this work - they saved my dog. It was one of my toughest days. They took care of my dog, gave all the animals blankets and all the humans snacks and tissues. Even my kids got coloring supplies. These rockstars were kind, caring, knowledgeable and compassionate. They explained what was going on so well & knew what they were doing. They treated every human and animal with kindness and respect. They truly are amazing humans!! I do hope i never see them again though.. but if my dog ever needs emergency help again, this is the place i will always go. Thank you so very much!!

Fantastic experience: The people here were SO nice. I brought my little Abigail here (9/6) since she wasn’t feeling well and they treated her like she was their own cat. I loved getting to be so involved with everything! Cannot recommend this place enough, everyone we interacted with was AWESOME! Special shout out to Dr.Moore and everyone that helped along the way! I wish I remembered everyone’s names that helped my baby, but just know you are all in my heart forever!

Fantastic experience: VEG IS AMAZING!!!!!! After our dog ingest something he wasn’t supposed to, we were referred to VEG. Dr. Moore, Caitlin, and the rest of the staff were so amazing and so incredibly kind and supportive and helpful. We were there almost 2 days and they made sure our pup was WELL taken care of!! I highly recommend VEG in Cary to anyone who needs emergency pet services. If I could leave more than 5 stars, I would!!!

Fantastic experience: As a fan of transparency and efficiency, I was amazed with the team and operational excellence that I witnessed at VEG (on Kildaire Rd). Within 2 minutes of walking through the door, the triage team immediately understood the severity of my cat's situation, they alerted the broader team, and they quickly confirmed fluid around the cat's heart via a quick sonogram. The doctor was compassionate, patient, and she took plenty of time to educate us and explain the options. The other staff that we interacted with were also professional, kind, and proactive. If your furry friend has an emergency, navigate to VEG!

Fantastic experience: Dr Blodgett and several staff came to our truck with a stretcher to help our dog inside as he was having difficulty walking. Everyone there was caring and compassionate. We also brought our other dog and some of the staff helped her to not feel afraid while Whiskey was being cared for.

Positive experience: I’m a little conflicted on my review. The staff were very friendly, and you could tell they loved each and every animal that walked through the door. They offered the people waiting snacks and water bottles. They have a coffee area as well. It is freezing in there, so I highly recommend wearing pants and bringing layers. They were so kind and offered me a blanket and a pillow to use, plus got my dog water and a dog bed. I walked in at 6:15pm with my dog. I was immediately asked what she needed to be seen for. A little later they did an ultrasound to make sure she was stable. I think around 11pm I told them she needed to go potty outside and suggested someone catch the urine for a urinalysis, which they did. It then took a long time for the head vet to give the go ahead to run it. Then the head vet went into surgery and I had waited for him to get out and go over the results and come up with a plan. I finally walked out around 4:30am. I was there for over 10 hours. I was the one that initiated the urinalysis, surprised no one suggested it earlier, seeing as how it was needed for her particular care (bladder stone). Now I get other pets were more critical, and needed to be seen before us. Absolutely! I’m glad they were. It just felt like we fell through the cracks and we could have had a much smoother experience if there was better communication. I will also say we were there during shift change, and I believe they were short on nursing staff from what I overheard. So again, this may not be a typical experience for people that come in? Would I take my dog back here? If it was an emergency, yes. The staff were great! I think it was just our particular night that was rough for circumstances that was beyond the staff’s control. This was my first experience with this type of emergency veterinary care, so this could be totally normal, I’m not sure.

Positive experience: I took an injured baby rabbit in today that I knew was not likely to survive but drove an hour to get there on the chance they could help him. I could not have been more impressed initially. They expedited us as a triage case and the young lady who came to help us said immediately after looking into the box I had him in that he would need to be euthanized and asked me if I needed my box back. She had not touched him at that point. Afterwards she did lift him up for a moment and confirmed that euthanasia would be the outcome. I said that I appreciated her expertise but was surprised that she reached that conclusion without even examining him. She immediately replied “Did you not see me pick him up and examine him?” And then followed with “You can leave him with us or take him with you. I won’t be offended” and proceeded to walk off. As she did so I replied “Are you certain, because you sound very offended”. She continued walking away without responding, leaving me at the table with the poor thing and not knowing what to do. I know she heard me. I walked out with the animal but returned a few minutes later. I literally did not know what to do with him. The only rehab that responded to me had referred me to you saying that he could possibly be given antibiotics. I asked if I could speak to someone about how I was treated and have it confirmed that there were no other options. Henriett came, sat on the floor, and spoke with me for several minutes. She handled the situation professionally and with compassion. She said she would report the incident and I hope she does. I did not get the name of the first staffer but I wish I had because I would never want her treating any of my pets and she should not be dealing directly with the people who bring their pets in. It is impossible to convey her tone or attitude, but it was clear that she was irritated that I questioned her way of handling the situation. It is clear that this organization provides an excellent service and has caring staff. It only takes one who lets their ego get in the way to ruin the experience. I am still in shock at how she treated me. Henriett and the rest of the staff I saw and interacted with deserve 10 stars. I apparently drew the short straw with the person who “helped” me and she deserves zero.
