Experiencia fantástica: We had to bring my puppy for an emergency obstruction and everyone we talked to was amazing. The surgeon was very informative about the procedure and called to update us after. Even though I was very scared to leave him to have surgery, I knew he was in the best place for the surgery! Couldn’t have asked for better treatment ♡

Experiencia negativa: In August 2025 our 9-year-old cat, Lilith, was referred here for an MRI after suddenly developing severe neurological symptoms. The MRI showed a tumor. We made it clear we were ready to approve surgery immediately. We were told results would take a few days. Instead, we waited over two weeks, calling repeatedly with no answers and no transparency. We were later told the delay was due to staffing issues, one MRI tech quit, another on vacation. During that time, her cancer — squamous cell carcinoma — continued to progress. An oncologist told us that with successful surgery she could have lived close to another year. By the time we finally met with the soft tissue team and further imaging was done, the tumor had spread too far for surgery. A surgeon admitted that if they had operated immediately after the MRI, they likely could have removed most of the mass, the same surgeon was also extremely argumentative and was denying the staffing information that we were told about prior to this appointment. Because of these delays, we lost that chance. We lost her in December 2025. We are so sick and devastated, I just want to prevent this happening to anyone else. Some technicians were kind, but the lack of urgency, communication, and accountability cost our family precious time. I hope no one else has to experience this.

Experiencia negativa: Would be 0 stars if possible. They killed my bird in april 2025, or were at least negligent in informing me of his condition so i could help him recover. They refused to let me assist in any way, and restrained him in a towel while he had a siezure for over 30 minutes before finally contacting me and my roommate saying he wouldnt stop siezing. Despite all the bells and whistles and high tech they have, these people do not know how to handle exotic animals in a way that isnt detrimental to them. I think the kicker is that they left us in the dark while he was having an emergency for over 30 minutes. This was an angel of a creature. He loved everyone and was so gentle. What was meant to be a simple check up killed him, and they still charged us over $400. Its honestly disgusting. I shouldve put my foot down and only paid for the euthanasia i ultimately had to make them perform. 0/5 stars. Will never come back unless i have a life or death emergency.

Experiencia fantástica: This hospital has taken such good care of my granddog Boomer. From the Cardiology Dept to the Oncology Dept, his care has been top notch. We appreciate that the specialty departments work in conjunction to provide the best care plan. Super helpful staff, clean facility, professional treatment. I don't like the parking pass requirement, but since it means getting the best care for out fur babies, I'm willing to deal with it.

Experiencia negativa: I am extremely dissatisfied with the care my dog received at UT Veterinary Medical Center during a critical emergency. My dog was referred to UT by Concord Veterinary Hospital specifically for overnight monitoring for suspected toxin exposure. The referring veterinarian coordinated care in advance, called ahead, and sent handwritten notes, bloodwork, and full documentation. An IV catheter was intentionally left in place to avoid another stick. Upon arrival, a staff member who had not communicated with the referring veterinarian dismissed Concord’s assessment and paperwork and focused narrowly on a suspected liver shunt, despite repeated attempts to discuss toxin exposure. During this process, my dog was given multiple enemas for shunt treatment and subsequently became hypothermic and dehydrated, requiring urgent stabilization elsewhere. Communication was very confrontational and dismissive, and requests for my dog’s medical records were refused, further complicating an already frightening situation. When I made the decision to leave UT and transfer my dog to another emergency clinic, I explicitly stated that the IV catheter was to remain in place for transport. Despite this, the same confrontational staff member removed it without medical necessity or explanation. As a direct result, my critically ill dog required another IV placement at the receiving emergency clinic who had a very hard time finding a vein due to dehydration from the multiple enemas given to her by the staff at UT. The disregard for the referring veterinarian’s plan, the breakdown in communication, the failure to respect continuity of care significantly worsened an already traumatic emergency, and on top of all that the cost was outrageous. In contrast, the receiving emergency clinic, Knoxville Pet Emergency Clinic, handled her care professionally and kept her stable overnight. Based on my experience, I cannot and will not recommend UT Veterinary Medical Center.

Experiencia negativa: $3000-$5000 to watch a sick dog overnight is not only outrageous. It should be criminal. How do you people live with yourselves?

Experiencia fantástica: I have a beautiful 4 year old full bred named Remington. Remington is amazing and full of life and love. One day recently, my boy stopped eating, and playing. UT Emergency was so good. They were very thorough in helping diagnose what was going on with Remy, and were very communicative in keeping my husband and I informed at every step. The situation was very scary. Remy had an intestinal Intussusception. Dr. Chiaramonte met with us before performing emergency surgery on him. I liked her calm, yet confident demeanor. She was able to perform a successful surgery, and clearly communicate and keep us informed before and after the surgery. She was able to answer all of our questions, and followed up herself to check on Remy once he returned home and was recuperating. She has communicated test results, and has given us all of the tools to work to keep Remington healthy going forward. I can't be more thankful for UT Vet Emegency.

Experiencia negativa: Told me they'd had to sedate my cat for an X-ray because it was policy which I was hesitant about but the vet promised me they'd "reverse it right away" yet they bring him out to me (because I literally had to argue with them to see him after 14 hours of waiting) and when I seen him they STILL had him sedated and said "I didn't wanna reverse it yet" like you TOLD me you'd reverse it right away because of his chest deformity yet lied right to my face. Poor baby was in a needless cone and extremely drugged for hours for NOTHING. And not like a sleepy drugged either a falling over scared drugged

Experiencia negativa: Please do not take your pet here unless you have absolutely have no other choice. It is a bunch of college kids and usually 1 actual vet per shift. These kids lack the experience to be working in an animal “hospital.”

Experiencia fantástica: We brought our little Papillion Yogi into UTVMC when he was bleeding profusely from the mouth and throwing up blood. They took him in immediately and treated/stopped the bleeding. Yogi spent the night there and the next day we were advised that he needed immediate dental surgery. While they were not able to accommodate immediately for surgery, they referred us to ETVD who successfully performed the surgery the next day. So happy to say that three days post surgery Yogi is doing well. UTVMC saved my Yogi's life that night! Thank you UTVMC. HIGHLY RECOMMEND

Experiencia negativa: This has taken me a while to write. Do not take your animals to this facility for any kind of treatment. We took our GSP because he was showing signs of a foreign object in his stomach and that particular Saturday our vet was closed. After X-rays they told us they saw something and he would need surgery (this is our 2nd time of this surgery). He had his first 5 years ago - we all thought he would grow out of putting everything in his mouth! So we had to wait quite a while and then a more serious emergency came in and they told us they would keep him overnight and keep him comfortable and would perform the surgery early the next morning. We received a call around 9am the following morning telling us that another radiologist looked at the X-rays and didn’t feel it is conclusive for surgery so we needed to come pick him up. Even though he had all the signs and symptoms of a foreign object in his body. They delivered him to the room and the smell would knock you down. His entire back side, legs, stomach were a green/yellow and an awful smell - he had obviously laid in feces a long time and they had just cleaned him up because his fur was soaking wet. He was still in pain and discomfort, showing all signs. So we were charged $1,800 and they did nothing - no relief, no care, no help. We take him to his vet Monday morning, they performed surgery and removed foreign OBJECTS from him stomach. Under no circumstances would I ever take our animals to this facility which is supposedly the best in the region. They are horrible.

Experiencia negativa: It is taking me a long time to post this but I cant recommend this hospital. I don't recommend their cardiology department or emergency. I moved here is january of this year and my dog needed a new cardiologist. He saw the cardiologist at the end of January. They said he was doing fine and no signs of heart failure or concerns. They did hear some wheezing but wasnt conxerned. Then a week later I had to rush my baby to the hospital due to breathing issues. I am told he is in heart failure and needed oxygen. I was told they were going to try their best. I get a call they he wasn't doing well on regular oxygen and that he needed high flow. They then tell me there wasn't much they could do as the fluid was not releasing from his body and he wasn't coming out of it. I head to the hospital to see my baby. The entire time I am visiting my baby I am told that he is at the end and won't come out of this condition. This hospital didn't try to fight for him or nothing. They gave up on him. He had been in similar issues at his previous emergency hospital and fought for him. They did everything in their power to get him through and did so. I would never trust this facility with any of my pets. I wished I had drove to his previous hospital in Kentucky and got him the help he deserved. Because of this facility I had to say goodbye to my baby boy. I will never forgive a hospital like this one for what they did. I rather drive a few hours then go here for my pets health!! I would give them a zero if I could!

Experiencia fantástica: Can’t speak highly enough of Dr. Barbero of dermatology and her team. My pup Murray had an ongoing nasty ear infection for nine months and despite frequent vet visits with our primary vet, it was never resolved. We finally went into UT Dermatology and they resolved the issue in less than a month. They were very detailed when our pup was discharged and gave thorough instructions. We saw progress so quickly. Dr. Barbero was so kind and tackled it head on. HIGHLY RECOMMEND. Our pup is so much happier and not in pain anymore. On our check up visit, they sent us with further instructions for maintenance. I could go on and on. I am so thankful. Photo of our happy boy!

Experiencia fantástica: I brought my Bearded Dragon (Spike) here tonight. Sadly my buddy didn’t make it, but the staff here made my fiancé and I feel very comforted, they answered all our questions honestly, explained his condition to us in an easy to understand way, offered us very professional advise about the ways we could treat him, but ultimately we all came to agreement that the cost out weighed the odds of survival. We are very thankful for how urgent they made our situation and I wouldn’t have asked for the service to be any better or different in any sort of way. These people are very passionate about what they do and I will come here for all Animal Emergency’s and will recommend them to anyone I know. Whoever runs this hospital should be VERY VERY PROUD OF THEIR STAFF. I hope the crew that worked tonight receives high praise and is rewarded for the amazing job they did, because they treated us as people and not another wallet to empty like most vet offices do. They gave us a free claw print of our beardie which was very cute and even had his tail and name imprinted on it. I will never forget the ladies who helped us and I hope they continue making other people feel comforted during the times of need good/bad outcomes Thank you again Ladies, you helped us feel heard and we appreciate the hard work you guys did. I’ve attached a photo of our bearded dragon that way anytime these Ladies feel discouraged they can look back and see that even though some situations don’t end good, the way they present themselves and how they deal with pet owners in times of need will always speak loudly! RIP SPIKE (10/18/2025)

Experiencia fantástica: UTVMC staff were absolutely wonderful to deal with in our emergency situation. I am from Ohio but was at an event in Tennessee with my dog who unfortunately ended up needing emergency surgery. Everyone was wonderful to work with, very caring and they went above and beyond to help us in a time of need. Thank you!! We drove back to UT the 9 hour distance for follow up care solely because they were so helpful. Thank you!!

Experiencia fantástica: We have been making regular trips here with my daughter’s dachshund who is 15 with multiple health issues. The care from the vets and resident fellows is excellent, as well as the support staff, scheduling and all. Abby is a little dog and fearful of kennels and the most fantastic is they put Abby with the Vet students when needed so she doesn’t have to be in a kennel!

Experiencia negativa: Request an apt with a specialist and when you get there they perform procedures on your animal only to tell you that they need to see the specialist. You say your apt. Was with the specialist... They say they don't even work that day.... That is just the tip of the iceberg

Experiencia fantástica: This is the best place ever for dogs and especially cats. Most vets dont know alot about cats health and how to treat them. They do. Everyone is super nice, knowledgeable and caring. A genuine care that they get very excited when they help their patient! No price gouging and they explain what they do before doing it. Recommend highly.

Experiencia fantástica: Awesome! Gave seen Dr. Jones on two separate occasions and was highly satisfied eith the entire experience got making the appointment, admission, consultation through discharge! Dr. Jones is thoughtful and thorough in his approach and provides clear explanations of options, including risks and benefits. As a retired small animal veterinarian, I appreciate his attitude an approach to problems. Although he is a surgeon, he knows when to cut and when a non-surgical approach may be the better option.

Experiencia negativa: We took our 7 week old labradoodle puppy here because he was limping. Our local vet recommended we let their specialist look at him. They said he had bad bruising and a fluid pocket in his rear hip. They quoted us $900 to do scans and remove the fluid if necessary. I picked him up that evening when they were finished. They said he was healthy and to keep an eye on him for the limping to get worse or bruising. Well 8 hours later and our puppy passed in his sleep. Luckily the vet said she was sorry it happened.

Experiencia fantástica: We recently had to have our sweet kitty named Cow euthanized. Everyone here was so caring and loving to not only our sweet girl but to us as well. They explained everything that was going to happen and allowed us to have all the time we need to say our goodbye to our sweet girl in a room that felt like a room in my house . They made a very difficult and emotional time, easier. I can' t say enough great things about such an incredible and caring group of people!

Experiencia fantástica: Absolutely outstanding care and compassion to our poor boy Hawkins Friday. We couldn't have asked for a better vet, Dr. McIntosh. He treated us with compassion and Hawkins with three respect her deserved. While the outcome wasn't what we hoped, he and the staff were just amazing. And made it as comfortable as possible for us and Hawkins. Thank you

Experiencia negativa: UT Veterinary Medical Center is part of a billion-dollar industry in animal euthanasia. This is my second time using them. Both times, they refused to give my cats their recommended medication without telling me upfront. Both times, they conducted unnecessary tests that cost thousands of dollars. Both times, they didn't want to give me my cats back after I found out. Both times, my cats died because they weren't treated in time. I will never, ever take my pets to UT Veterinary Medical Center where they will be subjected to poking and prodding in a sterile hospital among strange people and animals for hours, and hours, and hours, and hours, only for them to die.

Experiencia fantástica: I HIGHLY recommend taking your pet here. The prognosis for our little ferret Rocket was not good and they were straightforward about it while still being very compassionate. They gave my husband and I our options and were prepared to move forward with whatever we chose to do. They gave us plenty of time to consider and discuss the options, and answered all of our questions thoroughly so we could make the best choice. We ended up choosing humane euthanasia and everyone was very understanding and compassionate about it. They gave us plenty of time with Rocket both before and after. They even gave us 2 clay paw prints of his. I wish I would’ve gotten the names of the wonderful women who helped us last night, but I wasn’t thinking straight enough to even ask. I seriously can’t thank them enough for everything. I’d give more than 5 stars if I could.

Experiencia positiva: This is a clean vet that is open after regular vet hours. They treated my daughter's cat euthanasia will dignity and care. I will say that I found the doctor more empathetic to our situation than the nurse, but it was a difficult situation so I'm may have been over sensitive. I would bring my animal here again. As I said they were attentive and did give my daughter her cat's paw print with his name stamped in it immediately and some of his hair in a nice pouch. The front desk staff was nice and empathetic. I believe based on this experience, this vet is somewhere I'd feel completely comfortable bringing my pet.

Experiencia negativa: Long waits and no care. After three hours of my cat being left in her cage alone in the back, I took her to another clinic which promptly treated her emergency issue. To UT’s credit they waived the fee since she was never even evaluated in three hours. However, I would look elsewhere for emergency/urgent care especially as the people I did meet with were not very friendly or caring.

Experiencia negativa: Not very pleased after having to bring my umbrella cockatoo in 4 times for the same procedure/ problem. And felt like even being a teaching school there should be a professor or surgeon that is available to talk with than.a student when the situation could be life or death of an animal. Not Happy at all and spent over $2,000.00 yes Over Two Thousand Dollars and still No Results.

Experiencia fantástica: Our green cheek conure was throwing up one night and we called UT Vet Med and got straight through to someone who helped us right away. We called three times before we brought her in, and when we arrived they were waiting for us. Our bird was seen right away and they treated her with meds and fluids, and she made a full recovery. We really enjoyed chatting with the other pet parents in the waiting room. The waiting room was comfortable, the bathrooms were clean, there were vending machines, and we were only there about 2 hours. The bill was surprisingly inexpensive! The first person was a student who probably had not held a bird before but she did a great job. The whole experience was so much better than expected.

Experiencia fantástica: I took my sweet Maverick for BOAS surgery. The surgery was scheduled for a couple of months out and during this time the staff were so nice and answered all my questions every time I called. The day of his appointment went great. All the staff were so nice and just LOVED Maverick. Dr. Tobias and Vet Student Savannah were amazing! Maverick was only in surgery for 30 minutes. They called me before and after surgery and then a couple of times in the evening with updates. Maverick stayed the night for observation and was able to come home the next morning. They even called the next two days after surgery to check on him and gave great advise to help give him his meds. I am very pleased with the services I received and would recommend anyone who has a pup that needs BOAS to go to the UT Vet Clinic. They worked with my budget and actually came under their estimate range, which was a huge blessing as this is a very expensive surgery. Thank you so much to everyone to helped my Maverick!

Experiencia positiva: We went here with our cockatiel because he is super sick. They advertise a 3-4 hour wait and we were there with an appointment at 11 am. We did not leave until after 5 pm. The staff apologized (they had a few - what they categorized - as bigger emergencies), but waiting for six hours and not getting any diagnosis (they just listed more concerns and tried to get us to hospitalize with the zoo staff) for our beloved pet was pretty ridiculous. And, they kept calling him a her bird. The pricing was fair for an emergency hospital and they did help our bird some, so we are thankful enough. We will try to just get him to his regular vet though. Thanks for trying.

Experiencia negativa: This story is from 3 years ago and I wish I had sued when I had the opportunity to as their negligence killed my pet. The guilt of taking my beloved pet here still weighs on my conscience 3 years later so I hope by sharing my story no one else will have to go through what I did. I had an older guinea pig named Chloe that had gotten pregnant while my guinea pigs were being babysat. I had already taken her to a local vet to get an ultrasound and he recommended a c section as due to her age she most likely would have birth complications. We scheduled the c section but she gave birth early and, just as our local vet predicted, she couldnt push out all of her babies and the last one was stuck. It was the middle of the night and UT Vet was the only emergency vet open that could see exotics. My roommate graciously drove us over 2 hours to save Chloe and her babies. The vet techs took her in after I paid them 600 dollars and assured me she would be operated on as soon as the vet came in around 8am. I got a call later that day stating that the vet would not operate on her that morning as she wanted her to have a "natural birth". No ultrasound performed to see how the baby was doing, no concern for the fact that she had been in labor for at least 9 hours at that point. I was uneasy about waiting but wanted to trust the vets judgement and not advocating for her is something that will haunt me for the rest of my life. They performed on her late that afternoon and found that her last baby was not only gigantic but grossly misformed and it would've been impossible for her to have given birth to it. They also confirmed that the last baby had been left dead inside her for hours. I continuously checked in to see how she was doing, both before they began operating and after, to ask for updates and was told not to continue contacting them as "no news was good news". The next day I woke up to a missed call 30 minutes prior. When I called back I was given the news that she had become septic from the baby's rotting corpse being left inside her and she had passed. When I started asking questions the vet rudely told me they had tried calling me before she passed and took no responsibility for her death. They gave me back her one surviving baby, her body in a freezer bag to bury and a remembrance plaque where they had misspelled her name as Chole. The vet techs who brought everything out to me were sympathetic and were at the very least helpful in providing resources to care for her remaining baby. I was in too much shock at the time to process the gross negligence from the vet. I wish I had contested the bill and/or pursued legal action but I was in so much pain from losing Chloe that I couldnt process just how badly they had neglected her. In the end I paid them a total of 1440 dollars for them to kill my pet. The financial loss hurts but nothing hurts as much as losing a pet too soon because of negligence. I urge anyone who wants to see their pet alive again to never go here.

Experiencia fantástica: Making the decision to seek emergency care at UT Medical Center for my sweet Remy (a five-year old mini poodle) was the best decision I could have made for him. What initially started out as a minor injury (daughter accidently stepping on his back) turned scary as Remy's symptoms began to worsen each day. By the time we made it to UT, Remy had full paralysis in his back legs and couldn't walk. Turns out he had a condition (IVDD) where a slipped disk was compressing his spinal cord. Leaving Remy at the hospital for surgery was the best decision for his long-term prognosis. But at that point he had deteriorated so much, that even with the operation, he only had a 50/50 chance of walking again. Dr. Alessandra Chiaramonte did Remy's surgery, and she was nothing short of amazing! She explained the nuance of his condition and helped us understand the procedure. And while any spinal surgery is scary, we had no doubt that Remy was in the best hands. Thankfully, she was able to alleviate all pressure on Remy's spinal cord by removing the disc material that was causing the problem. She also kept us updated on his post-op recovery, which has been nothing short of amazing! These past few days he's been meeting all markers that indicate he will eventually (after a long, restful recovery) be back to good health and walk again. While we were prepared to accept any outcome as Remy is a cherished member of our family and we'd love him regardless, we're so grateful that he ended up in Dr. Chiaramonte's hands. He has so many years left. And now he can continue doing the things that bring him joy. Running off leash in parks when no other dogs are around, riding on my lap while perched on his back legs with his head out the car window enjoying the wind, and walking the beach looking for sea creatures buried in sand. We credit all this to Dr. Chiaramonte, her amazing surgical team, and the phenomenal med students that helped take care of Remy during his stay. If your pet needs emergency care, you need to go to UT.

Experiencia negativa: I have a cat that in the past several years, has shown distress from serious ear itching and pain. I have gone in circles, being referred to many doctors, only for them to refer me back to my vet. It has been a nightmare without any resolutions. It makes me think that E TN has some really uneducated veterinarians. Still, my current Vet (one of the best so far) referred me to UT Dermatology (Dr. Drake). The first time, a year ago, she seemed very willing to take the time to discuss my cat's issues after a bill of almost $2K, which was not relayed to me prior. The results: NOTHING. Okay, so my cat is in severe pain and has nothing, not even a polyp. Now, almost a year later, my cat has progressed to it getting worse...whining all of the time, especially when I touch her ears. Again, I am referred to UT Dermatology (Dr. Drake) and procedures are done again without my knowledge or approval. Photos are taken in her ear and I am told she has impacted earwax in one ear that will either come out with Cerumene or will have to be removed surgically. The other ear was fine. I went home and nothing seemed to work. When I contacted UT again, I was told that they were done with her and she should either have my primary Vet look into her ears (funny, they sent me to UT) or I now need to see an IM (which in the past 4 years she has seen 2 different ones). When my Vet requested a consult with Dr. Drake, he was denied the consult and imaging was not sent to him, even after he requested them. This is now just under a month later, and my cat has a serious yeast infection in both ears, which we are now treating. UT Vet...especially Dr. Drake...I would stay far away from. They are simply there to revenue your bill without your approval. And to refuse a consult from a referring Vet, is ethically wrong and against all Vet standards. I will never return to UT unless only imagining is required. They do not care about your pets...only use them as Guinea pigs to teach their students...at YOUR expense. Front desk is the only helpful part of the process.

Experiencia negativa: Took my cat here because his regular vet discovered that he had a low white blood cell count. We were here over 14 hours waiting. They figured absolutely nothing out and provided no new medication. Said they needed to sedate my cat just because it is policy even though he was born with a chest deformity they cannot change this rule. Said that he could die just from them handling him!? They brought him out to me with him in a cone that they probably had on him the whole time which was completely uncomfortable for him. They said they recommended hospitalization for 3 days until they can get an ultrasound which is $1,000 a night because of him not eating. So I asked him if they could bring a can of food out with me here and see if he'll eat because he will never eat or use the bathroom at a vet from past experience. They told me no which I don't understand why unless they were just wanting to keep him for the money. We left against their advice and as soon as we got home he started eating great! We went the next day to his regular vet and they put him on a new antibiotic, now he is feeling better. Don't go here save your time and money.

Experiencia fantástica: My dog Max was treated by a local Vet for a small laceration. I wish I had gone to UT first. The Vet had no experience that this type of wound care required. The bandaging they applied to "protect" the sutures caused the flesh on his elbow to wear through to his tendons. I worked with them for three months and it only got worse. I finally asked to be referred to UT. Since under their care, his wound is finally healing! My pup gets super excited and happy when he goes for our weekly visits to the hospital! He loves the team there. I cannot express adequately my gratitude for the fine doctors and interns. They are kind, compassionate, and love the animals in their care. I highly recommend them.

Experiencia fantástica: Dr. Tobias is the most exceptional vet we've ever met. She understood our pets special needs and went out of her way to make every aspect of the operation go smooth and accommodating addressing Samantha's risk of seizures Dr. Tobias took every measure of care for the operation during after and for a fast release to return home. Dr. Tobias is a truly wonderful caring doctor. When a pet is facing extreme health issues this is the clinic we want they really CARE for your fur baby, to everyone involved with Samantha's care at the UTVMC small animal clinic thank you , you are the absolute best !!!

Experiencia negativa: Both I and my vet made referral requests "ASAP" to UT Vet regarding my 3.5 yo retriever for her persistent fever, nephritis, elevated liver enzymes and leukocytosis (elevated blood inflammatory cells) on 3/20/25. We were given an appointment on 4/24/25 with no further word from them until 4/23. My puppy died on 4/27 probably from a fungus called blastomycosis. There was no apparent effort to triage "ASAP" requests even from a veterinary doctor. The school missed a great teaching case and I lost my puppy. The middle management should be investigated for its inadequate triage. W Reed, MD

Experiencia fantástica: Very friendly and understanding. I had to travel an hour and a half to bring our sick Guinea pig to see someone on a Saturday. He was very sick. Apparently, cancer was the cause. Guinea pigs don't live very long. Usually, 4- 8 years. They develop cancer most of the time for no reason. They vet was so very nice and informative. Thank you Dr. Prichett and staff.

Experiencia fantástica: Dr. Farmer and Senior Student Lydia helped my cat, Indigo, with his nasopharyngeal polyp. This was an issue lasting for many months. Thanks to the excellent internal medicine, radiology, and surgery teams, my sweet boy is now breathing normally and acting like a kitten again! Lydia and Dr. Farmer went above and beyond to accommodate my work schedule and communicate updates. When I picked Indigo up to bring him home, he was snuggling with Lydia and seemed reluctant to leave his new friend, so I know he was cared for like family! I feel that the team here is highly competent and passionate about what they do. Thank you to UT vet team for helping my buddy!

Experiencia fantástica: Great place to take our dog. They were caring and explained everything they thought they might need to do. They were upfront about the costs too. I would go back in a heartbeat. We love this vet! We later went in with our nearly 17 year old Westie. Her health issues had caught up with her. We knew when we walked in the door, our sweet puppy would be gone when we walked out. She was in such bad shape, we had to let her go. UT Veterinary Hospital made the process bearable and dignified for the dog. They explained the process and provided privacy for us as we went through this very difficult thing. They helped our sweet puppy pass away peacefully and in our arms.

Experiencia fantástica: 100% the best office I could have ever taken my sweet bearded dragon to! It was an hour and a half drive, I took her to a place that was HIGHLY praised to get her the best chance. Locally to me, there unfortunately isn’t any specialists for exotics. They took such wonderful care of her, and kept her comfortable the whole time! They explained everything so well and to a T so we knew exactly what was going on. The staff was wonderful in keeping us informed the whole time. My Cooper girl has had it rough. She got sick, went into brumation, and just couldn’t potty on her own for 4 months. They did an enema on her, and unclogged her, she used the bathroom a little there! 6 days later (yesterday) she finally went potty for the first time on her own accompanied by a warm soak! My girl is back to her normal self and it’s so good to see after 4 hard months! Thank you UT!

Experiencia negativa: Exercise caution with calling this clinic in the case of an emergency. This clinic took a message on the emergency status of my cat and I was told I would receive a call back shortly if I would be able to bring him in. It has been over 24 hrs and I still have not received that call back. After 1.5 hours of anxiously waiting for a call yesterday, I took my cat instead to Animal Emergency & Specialty Center of Knoxville who were able to see him immediately. They were very attentive to my animal’s needs and provided him the care he needed.

Experiencia fantástica: Our girl Kendalee contracted primary glaucoma, which is rare in Labradors, a little over 2 years ago. Medications were unable to get the eye pressure under control and she lost her right eye. Under the supervision of the Ophthalmology Team at UTCVM we have proactively treated her remaining eye which, at this time, remains unaffected. Kendalee gets quarterly eye exams at the UTCVM and monthly eye pressure checks at our local vet. The Ophthalmology Team at UTCVM has helped give us and Kendalee more quality time together.

Experiencia fantástica: My sweet furbaby, Willie Ray, goes to UT for PT twice a week. He has bad hips and is overweight! (because a lot of people give in to those big brown eyes begging for treats....okay, it's me I’m the one) Thanks to the "hoomans" and the water treadmill at UTVMC, he has lost seven pounds! I'm not allowed to go in with him for safety reasons and everyone is masked up due to the pandemic. As a helicopter mom, this was hard, but every person we've dealt with is so kind, from the operators to the schedulers to the students who work with him during therapy. I love this place and would recommend it to all animal lovers.

Experiencia fantástica: Took my cockatiel Rosie’s body here a few weeks ago for a necropsy after a local vet snapped her leg leading to her death. I’ve been here before YEARS ago for our Chinese crested. To make long stories short, they’ve always been so kind and understanding there. This time I had my baby bird frozen in a lunch box and they treated me like she was a little person. When I tell you her death enveloped my life… the staff at UT were so understanding. The only thing I could possibly say about this experience is that the woman in the necropsy dept seemed a bit cranky every time we spoke. Otherwise, although it was a heartbreaking experience for me, it was a great experience with the staff.

Experiencia positiva: I am giving this facility 3 stars because it is a learning hospital so when things go wrong as an owner who knowingly used a learning center you do have to take some responsibility for that decision. I also am writing this because I wish another older pug owner would have left this review for me to consider before I had my pug operated on here. My pug is 5 years old. His vet said he needed a soft palate and nose surgery “to help him breathe better.” Looking back I regret listening to that recommendation as well and would highly recommend anyone with an older pug get a second opinion before just taking a vet’s recommendation on this surgery. I took my baby/pug here for the surgery. He not only does not breathe better, he breathes horribly now. When he breathes in he struggles. He used to be very active, play, chase balls for hours now he can’t do a 5 minute walk without struggling to breathe. Whatever they did they damaged his nose to where he struggles to breathe. He never had any nose issues before he only sounded bad when he was excited. I would give anything to go back and not do this surgery. I had a healthy, happy dog. Now I have a dog whose life has probably been significantly shortened and who can’t do so many of the things he loved doing. It has cost me close to $10k to have my dog seriously injured/quality of life destroyed. The worst part has been the complete lack of any taking of responsibility, I am constantly told that this must be some pre-existing condition that was never apparent until they operated on him. That is obviously not true because his nose was fine before the surgery, I have been charged for countlesss tests post surgery to just be told it can’t possibly be due to the surgery that it appeared after. Honestly I could handle an admission that someone messed up a lot better then the denials. As stated, I knew it was a learning hospital. It is the complete refusal to even consider that they have caused him harm rather then good and then making me pay thousands for no answer ultimately (likely because they do not want to admit fault). I have paid almost $10k to hurt my baby. There is apparently no way to fix their noses btw if this happens - another reason I highly recommend against this surgery. If you are getting this surgery done on an older pug, research and take your baby somewhere other then a learning hospital. You don’t want to be me. I regret this so much. Every day I have to watch my once active, happy baby struggle to breathe and know that he would have been fine without this on surgery, I would have had to watch him more on hot days but he would have lived a full, happy life without struggling to breathe through his nose. It isn’t worth it. Another thing I wish I had know is always do this when your pug is a puppy. As they get older apparently this becomes harder and more dangerous. No one told me that either. I hope this post saves someone and their baby the agony I have gone through with this.

Experiencia positiva: Edit: Upping to 3 stars because they are being responsive now on my dogs continued care ___ We specifically scheduled for our dog to get a CTScan. UT Knoxville knew we were traveling in from out of state for the CTScan. During our appointment Thursday they told us their CTScan machine was down. Ultimately we had to wait until Monday for the CTScan. There was no concession or consideration for us having to pay significantly more to stay in town and taking more time off work. We felt the least they could have done was told us prior to our travel that their CTScan machine was down so we could have adjusted plans. The CTScan was already expensive for us, and the extra cost to stay was significant as well. I sent an email regarding this situation and heard nothing back. The CTScan results were fine and working with the different vets was fine (we had to work with two different people due to their machine being down forcing us to wait days in-between). We don’t fault the vets. The process put additional hardship on my dog during this time as well, such as medicating her and keeping her in the kennel on Friday in hopes the CTScan would be fixed (it wasn’t). Overall we have had a very stressful time with vets over the condition of our dog, and we had hopes our time with UT Knoxville Vet Center would be a positive experience. But due to the significant extra expense and hardship, with what seemed like little consideration for us from their end, it was difficult and disappointing. We are happy we have more understanding of what is happening with our dog, but the experience and significant additional expense was negative. Recommendation is if someone is coming in for a specific service which cannot be provided at the time of appointment, inform them and reschedule.

Experiencia fantástica: We brought our miniature dachshund, Winnie, here twice for care after an outside emergency vet told us we would need to see the neurology team for further evaluation of IVDD. From the front desk crew, student veterinarians, and veterinarians, we felt completely cared for, heard, and supported. Each interaction was fantastic, and we truly felt like they listened to our concerns and gave us the best chance of full recovery. Each assessment from the team really felt personal as if they were taking care of their own pet. From the free gi friendly food samples when she had side effects from her pain regimen to ensuring she was getting love in the back while she was away from us, we highly recommend UT Veterinary Medical Center for your family pet.

Experiencia negativa: I have used Ut Veterinary twice.. I had a pup that was sick and they did amazing but then i took my other pup to them for rehab and they dropped the ball. So they quoted me 1500 dollars for a week at the most!!! My dog was depressed being there so after two days they said it would be best if he was probably at home. So i got him home then two day latter i found out they charged me over $900 dollars for just two days !!!!!! I have tried to contact them many times and they will not call me back or answer to the charges.. Further more the two days he was there i was there and seen no physical therapy done to my pup. I was there do to him being depressed because he was not with his mom and dad. Next after i took him home they never called me or checked up on his recovery !!!!! I guess he was just a cash grab for them !!! like most collages... I would do this only if you dont really have attachment to your pet... You will not be able to contact the rehab people for any quotations they will not care about the welfare of your pet.. I might even do a YouTube video discussing this UT problem even further

Experiencia fantástica: Tuesday afternoon our 8 month old Italian Greyhound jumped off the couch & landed the wrong way- which caused two complete fractures of his Ulna and Radius. We immediately took him to a local vet who then transferred us to UT for orthopedic surgery. As soon as we walked in, they were waiting on us and immediately took us back to triage. He was in an excruciating amount of pain, so triage immediately hooked him up to IVs and started pain management & a care plan. He stayed overnight in the ICU (where he was constantly being monitored) and had surgery the next day (Wednesday). We were able to pick our baby up last night (Thursday) and so far he’s doing really well! I truly can’t say enough amazing things about the care we received while at UT. We had a student assigned to his case who called us multiple times a day with updates. We received better care here for our puppy, than we as humans have ever even received at regular hospitals. I’m so incredibly thankful for them making this traumatic experience so much better on us and on our baby Nico ♥️ For those wondering, his overall cost was around $4,500 which was on the lower end of the quote we initially received. I believe this was more than reasonable, especially when you take into consideration the top quality care we received!

Experiencia positiva: This place is great if you need a diagnosis, as the other vets we took our dog to in the area were "not comfortable" with diagnosing him or treating his issues. The vets, techs, and staff are so kind and helpful here. I would definitely recommend them especially if you have not been able to get a definitive diagnosis from your vet or need additional care. I put 4 stars because this place can be very expensive depending on what is done, and the fact they sometimes have to refer out to SC or other places for treatment options. Another thing to keep in mind is that you most likely will be there ALL DAY.

Experiencia negativa: My parents had brought in a neighbors dog who had sustained a back injury 4 months ago. Dog was an active wheelchair user but was not found with the wheelchair at the time. Neighbors were out of town for the night and due to the dog using a wheelchair the neighbor suggested they bring the dog to the vet for special observation since my parents have never cared for a special needs dog. Neighbor called the clinic before closing to inform them they would be picking the dog up when they open in the morning and to hold him overnight. They were told the clinic already had put the dog down. Dog was AKC chipped and should’ve never been put down without contacting the owners. This is extremely disheartening.

Experiencia fantástica: I have taken my dog to UT Tickle Small Animal Hospital for appointments with the internal medicine dept, the cardiology dept, and the dental team. First of all, I'd like to say the level of customer care by the doctors, the students on the team and their consistency of kindness, taking time to explain things and answer questions is unparalleled. I could only have dreamed of having this level of specialist care within driving distance for my animals before we moved to the area 4 years ago. The quality of care re treatments and expertise by these board certified veterinarians and their teams is top notch. My dog had been diagnosed with early Chronic Kidney Disease by an internist near home and the internist at UT brought up information charts and my girl's labs and, bullet point by bullet point, explained to me why the diagnosis was incorrect. She does not have CKD. Then, the cardiologist, who was so kind and thorough as well, corrected some things regarding my girl's meds and diagnosis. I had requested a referral to the dental team at UT due to my dog's heart issues and went on the wait list to have her dental cleaning done at UT. From the time Tiffany called me to schedule the appointment to the moment she put my baby in my arms after her extensive procedure, I felt that my dog and I were cared for in a genuine way, while the quality of expert medical care was again, top notch. I had no idea that x rays are a standard of care re dental care for dogs, which the dentist and Tiffany educated me on. After doing the xrays and exam, the dentist found that my girl had extensive peridontal disease and needed 11 extractions. This meant the procedure and time under anesthesia was gonna be more involved that we had hoped. However I trusted she was in the best place. I was stressed and worried about her, but knew the UT team was taking care of her. By this appointment, I had developed trust in UT small animal hospital and that trust deepened further because they explained to me why this procedure was necessary and also took time to go over her x rays and provide before and after pictures after the procedure was over. The student tech remembered my girl from her last appointment at UT and went out of her way to be kind and welcoming. She also called to let me know when the procedure was over and again with the timeline of when I could pick my girl up. They gave my girl exceptional quality of care and also made a worrisome experience less stressful for me. They, once again, took the time to provide details and allow me to ask questions before and after her procedure. I am so grateful to be close enough to make the 3 hour drive to UT and would recommend anyone with an emergency or in need of a specialist for their pet or with a pet having health issues that can't be explained to seek care at UTK. I wish thanks were enough to the UT vet team for what they have offered us.

Really nice doctors and a huge community of people and all types of animals come through here. Please know that this hospital is not just for dogs and cats and that it should be an example for what an animal hospital should be. My only suggestion is to please consider adding a boarding service for all animals including birds. This would help immensly as the nearest exotic boarding service in TN is Lange animal hospital and it is very expensive when it really shouldnt be.

No one was available to see him and he was in pain. We called U of T and they were kind, professional and said bring him in After a 2.5 hour drive a TEAM of staff rushed out to meet us and within 15 min they had blood test results. It was determined he was too far gone for surgery as his kidney values were off the chart. Sadly, We had to put him to sleep. Thank you U of T vet hospital.
