Fantastic experience: My Frenchie was extremely sick and my wife was traveling. I rushed him in, feeling very stressed. The staff were wonderful, calm and assured which immediately calmed me down. He received excellent treatment. Absolutely recommend

Fantastic experience: My senior pup was experiencing critical heart failure and the staff at MASH helped me through one of the most emotional moments I've gone through in recent memories. I was fortunate to come in on a quiet night and the staff and team were as caring and helpful as they could be, ultimately resulting in Alma's recovery. They wasted no time getting her in and I just want to say thank you so much to Dr. Kelly Guest, Dr. Ambria Haddad, Dr. Sara Lefman and the rest of the team who gave me more time with my best friend. It's got to be a tough situation working as the staff at an ER for loved companions, but I was fortunate to have such a positive experience when it could have gone much much worse.

Negative experience: The moment I arrived in the driveway of clinic, I felt the price tags before I felt any care. They’re shady, all about the cash, and not about your fur babies. After charging me a jaw-dropping $5,000 for a biopsy that gave me a big fat “inconclusive,” they still handed me chemo prescriptions for my cat. I stopped the chemo after a few months—no follow-up, no check-ins. Two years later, I say, “Hey, my cat’s still here,” and they were gagged. They didn’t care then, they don’t care now—just vultures with calculators. Unless it’s your last resort, steer clear—because they don’t give a damn about your pets.

Fantastic experience: They saved my cat and everyone in here was SO supportive and kind, despite how insanely busy they are saving all the other animals. Vet tech Rose has been especially helpful in navigating prescription issues. I really appreciate EVERYONE here and rest easier knowing I can get my animals to them in emergencies.

Fantastic experience: I don’t think I ever wrote a review from my experience here in 2020. Anyway, I was reminded as My friend just called me from another animal hospital & told me her boy may have cancer. Back in December 2020, I brought my sick girl here after she was having belabored breathing at around 2:00 AM. They informed me that my beloved girl had kidney cancer that metastasized to her lungs. Her cancer was intreatable. My vet at that time, diagnosed her with pancreatitis. I realized after the fact, my vet wasn’t a good vet. But MASH is absolutely OUTSTANDING!!! Dr. Ferding, the other doctor, the vet techs, the front desk staff were all so caring, patient and kind at such an awful time of my life. I will never forget the sincere compassion they showed to me. They made everything very clear which is important when emotions can cloud our judgment & basic comprehension. I would 1000% recommend this animal hospital! Not only are they very competent & efficient but they clearly understand the heartbreaking pain of losing a pet and extend such grace to their human patrons!

Fantastic experience: We have been here twice for two different emergencies our dog had and have always been treated well! The front staff was very friendly and kind and Dr. Kirk was extremely patient and willing to talk us through everything. Following our visit we had some questions about the medicine our dog was taking and we called and the staff were incredibly nice and answered all our questions. Also they have free snacks and drinks while you wait! Overall very happy with the care I was provided with both visits. Emergency pet hospitals are always expensive, but atleast here you will feel taken care of.

Fantastic experience: I went in two days ago because my cat ingested something, they treated me so wonderful. I am a difficult person at times and hot headed and they were genuinely the best ever, compassionate, empathetic, and they try their hardest and best to help you and your critter. My cat unfortunately didn’t make it but they gave me all the time space and air I needed being there.

Fantastic experience: I had a very kind and compassionate experience with MASH. The front desk person was informative and calm even when I was a bit panicky. Bella, the vet assistant(?) was extremely sweet and helped me understand what was going on with my baby. Dr. Duff was the person who saw my cat and did amazing work. I couldn’t be any more lucky to have such a good experience with such a great staff in such a scary moment. I highly recommend this vet, especially in an emergency situation.

Fantastic experience: We just had the best experience at MASH. Brought our 4 month old golden doodle in in the middle of the night after waiting for 6 hours without being seen elsewhere, and MASH staff and our experience in general was fantastic. The receptionists were so friendly and helpful. And the doctor was everything you would want in someone taking care of someone you love. Thanks MASH!

Fantastic experience: This review is for internal medicine: Dr. Bianco and his team are amazing. My dog was a previously long standing client of Access in Pasadena but whenever I’d have a question after our visits no one would ever call me back even after leaving 4+ messages. So we recently started seeing Dr. Bianco and his team are so great. If I have a question between appointments I usually hear from someone in 1-2 days. My dog was having an adverse reaction to one of the meds he was prescribed so I emailed them for help. A day later, at 8am on Thanksgiving, I got an email from his team advising me on what revised meds I can give my dog while we wait for our upcoming recheck appointment.

Fantastic experience: MS. Bella was amazing with me. She knew exactly what signs I was dealing with, sweet and respectful . Thank you Bella !! Very satisfied with customer service

Fantastic experience: 10/10 experience for me and MASH. they really understand that these are your babies, and handled my crying very well. All in all, I was in and out in 2 hours and the prices are reasonable for an emergency vet. They recommended an internist and treated my dog very well. Coffee and tea in the lobby, too.

Negative experience: In April/May 2025 I would have rated MASH 4 to 5 stars. At that time I took my dog Daisy in for emergency services twice. The first visit was a 45 minute wait before seeing a vet. The provider seemed caring and laid out a reasonable treatment plan. The second visit I waited 90 minutes. I saw a different vet, she was great as well. The support team was caring and compassionate as well. Now seven months later, it seems to be the opposite. MASH has new ownership and it is obvious. I took my dog Jake into the ER on November 18th. Of the five staff members at the front desk, only one greeted me and only after I initiated such. The others all acted busy seemingly hoping one of their coworkers would step up. I saw this play out with other pet owners as well. The tech that took Jake for vitals was horrible and should not be charged with the care of sick animals. Further, she wasn’t able to even get Jake’s temp - inept and snarky. I waited over three hours in the very uncomfortable waiting room. I inquired a few times of the front desk staff what the expected ETA to see a vet. The answers were always vague. Others that came after me experienced the same uncaring treatment. I left after 3 1/2 hours - thankfully I found a much better option. It is completely disrespectful of MASH to expect pet owners to wait over three hours. If they lack vets to handle the patient base, and have waits exceeding an hour, the front desk should warn that the wait can be 3-4 hours. When people have sick animals, a little compassion is warranted - MASH, under its new ownership lacks such. With uncaring staff and an uncomfortable and cold waiting room, waiting so long to get (expensive) treatment for your pet is reason to find a better place.

Fantastic experience: $190 Examination which is already 20% cheaper than other places. Take home medication was more affordable than the other places. Immidiate care and driveway for emergencies. well known and well trusted for good reason. Really Human and Personable Staff, really helped keep a miserable situation positive Being able to get essential care for my dog without getting into more vet debt is so rare. It was mostly luck but I’m very grateful. Was able to afford without pet insurance.

Fantastic experience: From the moment I walked at 3am with my baby in my arms, they were amazing. They quickly saw how much in distress my dog was and very swiftly took her out of my arms and rushed to the back to stay care on her immediately. Though I’m not sure how much time she has left with us, they saved her that night. Everyone was so kind and thoughtful. I know ER vets don’t get a good rep but this one is different.

Fantastic experience: It took me a while to be able to write a review, but it deserves to be shared. My experience with this hospital is only for euthanasia services for my beloved dog. My girl 12 year old girl Luna was quoted 6-9 months due to an inoperable tumor in her chest cavity. Suddenly, only about three months into this quoted time, there was an evening where she stood up and was disoriented, breathing heavy, unfocused - and I knew it was time. In a sheer panic mode, I was looking up emergency 24/7 hospitals since it was already 9pm on a Monday when this happened (back on 7/7). We arrived at the hospital (which I will also add looks very nice both outside and inside) and my boyfriends family ran ahead inside to get assistance. She was a big girl, so a stretcher was needed. Everyone there handled her with such immense care. They got everything set up, and let me come back and have a moment with her while they administered all of the proper medications to help her sleep easy. I literally started crying because I saw someone even cut a small heart out with the medical tape to put on her wrist where the IV was - something as small as this really truly makes such a difference both in the moment and in processing the situation after the fact. The vet lady was seriously so kind, softly letting me know what was going on and that she wasn't in any pain. They had a little room afterwards and brought her in so we could all have a moment to say our goodbyes - they even cut some of the specific ear fur from the spot I always pet her the most, and gave it to me before I left. Since she was a big girl, her euthanasia costs were about $600 but this also included the cremation costs. She came with a beautiful wooden box, a nose print with her name (i literally cried), another big bag of her fur and even an ornament with a paw print. If you are for any reason looking into options for your beloved pet who will be crossing the bridge soon, or plan to at home but want a back up option in case something happens - I would recommend MASH. Thank you so much for making an already seriously sad and stressful situation so much easier, and doing it with such compassion.

Negative experience: READ THE ONE STAR REVIEWS!!! I wish I had. I spent almost fours hours in their waiting room separated from my dog. When I did finally chat with their doctor she told me the symptoms I brought my dog in for were no longer present. She wasn’t presenting any symptoms of pain or discomfort. She then told me “shes actually asleep back there” Then proceeded to tell me that dogs of her age will sometimes act confused it’s not a big deal. When she finally told me my dog had a fever, she followed with explanations stating it could be a symptom of a brain tumor or cancer. She continued to use technical jargon and did not explain any of it. When I inquired on the records I had provided that showed recent healthy bloodwork, CT and X Ray, she brushed it off and said all these things could have developed in the last 4 weeks. When presented with the quote I told the tech I did not have the money for this and she replied “well how much do you have?” They then came back with a quote for $900. At this point I asked for fluids and took my dog home. She is much improved this morning and is eating and drinking as normal. It felt predatory and over reaching. The attached quote is for a dog with a fever. $6491.75- $9010.70 After reading the other reviews I can now see this is not an isolated event. I do not write reviews but this was an unbelievable price gouging situation and is unacceptable in a business that has a duty of care to their customers.

Fantastic experience: Our buddy Zaboo has been seeing Dr. Stonex in Ophthalmology for a year now and we’ve been so incredibly happy with the care and treatment that he’s received! It feels incredibly comforting to know that he’s truly in the bestest of hands and you just can’t put a price on that.

Fantastic experience: My dog was admitted to the emergency hospital last night, and I cannot thank Dr. Kirk, Chris at the front desk, and the entire team enough. They were exceptional—caring, thorough, patient, and extremely knowledgeable. Despite a very busy night with multiple critical emergencies, they took care of my dog immediately and helped her feel better. What impressed me most was not only the level of medical attention, but also the way they managed the pace and flow of patients while still giving each one the time and compassion they needed. The facilities were excellent, parking was easy, and overall the experience gave me complete confidence in their care. I’m deeply grateful for the way they treated both my dog and me during a stressful time. Pilot thanks you!

Negative experience: We brought our 2-year-old cat to MASH after she started having focal seizures every 10–20 minutes and uncharacteristically peed herself outside the litterbox. We waited over 8 hours in the ER, and she was never seen by a doctor. The only updates we got were from the overnight front office staff, who were very kind and did their best to keep us informed. What really concerned us was when the shift change happened — it felt like no one was actively looking out for Lilo’s worsening condition and we kept getting pushed back. After hours of waiting with no medical attention, she was still having the focal seizures 10-20 minutes apart which turned into full body seizures, and that’s when we made the decision to leave and take her to ACCESS Specialty Animal Hospital. ACCESS saw her immediately, started her on anti-seizure meds, and admitted her. She needed 5 days of hospitalization to get stabilized — care that should have come much sooner. We understand emergency rooms can get busy, but the lack of urgency and follow-through at MASH during a clear emergency was really disappointing. We appreciate the kindness of the front office staff, but ultimately, we felt our cat wasn’t being properly cared for when she needed it most.

Fantastic experience: A few weeks ago, I was so scared I'd lose my precious dog. But coming here has given me hope. I'm so touched by the kindness and compassion of the staff. And I'm so grateful to Dr. Jeremy O'Neill, who performed Caramel's surgery. Caramel is wagging his tail in gratitude. Marshmallow also thanks you for not letting him lose his caramel.

Fantastic experience: Five stars is fitting for several reasons. It is open 24 hours (including Labor Day.) The ease of access and location w/ parking. The process is relatively smooth. The waiting room is modern, clean, and has an espresso machine/teas. The staff are nice, and the doctor was wonderful. They were dealing with a lot, and the wait was long- but that’s part of it. They handled themselves well under pressure on a holiday. My cat was injured with a bad laceration, and we got her what she needed with what I had. You should have at least $190 for the consult, and then it goes from there. I spent almost $400, but it could’ve went as high as $1k-2k if I had gotten more. They went over the treatment options and we came up with what we could in an emergency. That’s how it is. I am grateful for them. Please remember that results and options vary due to your unique circumstances, so you must understand that they may not be able to offer the same services. I’m putting this review here so you can have an idea of what the process looks like.

Negative experience: DO NOT BRING YOUR PET HERE IF YOU CAN HELP IT. I brought my dog in because she had blood in her stool. They kept her overnight because they weren't able to pinpoint the problem and wanted to give her fluids and run a bunch of tests. Fine, better safe than sorry. When I came back the next morning to pick her up, they handed her to me with diarrhea all over her butt, which got all over my arm. She also had dried up chunks of poop in her tail and leg, indicating that they hadn't cleaned her up and that it had been there for a while. She had just had surgery 2 days before with an incision right under her tail, which could've gotten infected. I reached out to tell them that was unacceptable, and they said it had been escalated to management. It's been 12 days and I haven't heard from anyone. I understand the staff is under a lot of stress, but there should be a protocol followed before discharging an animal back to the owner. Just beyond careless all around.

Fantastic experience: Our senior kitty had an operation and needed to be monitored at night. Very friendly place, very competent doctors and staff. Chewie is getting better now, thanks to MASH!

Negative experience: Avoid Dr. Garrett, and I urge you to read other reviews about this doctor. We had the exact same experience with her. Our puppy is 5 months old, teething. We took her to MASH because she vomit three times in the morning and refusing her food and water. It could ver possibly be her teething causing upset stomach (and later turned out true). We took her in anyway for caution. Despite her having her full vaccinations, they require her to do a parvo test ($110) before seeing her. They took her away in a separate room which I can’t see and don’t know what she’s doing. Didn’t tell us the parvo test result, and kept us waiting in the lobby. After about 2 hours Dr. Rachel Garrett came to see us, did not update us on her condition (aka more vomit or not, drink or eat or not), did no basic physical exam (heart rate, temperature, feel on her body etc), and rush us to decide to do X-ray and blood test. She said she could eat foreign objects. we are super cautious at home with things our puppy can reach, and we know our puppy’s behavior. We brought up teething could be the reason, Dr. Garrett did not give comment, rather just quoting very general suspicions of her vomiting, which can be even less helpful than ChatGPT. We ask an update on our puppy. Very manipulatively, she said our puppy is “lower energy than a 5 mo”. Hey, it’s 4pm already and she didn’t even have breakfast, and since they took her in they did not even give her water. Of course even if she recovers on herself, without water and food and in a hostile environment she will be nervous and low energy. We demand to see our puppy in the room, once she saw us she’s all ups and down again. This scenario is making them looking bad, so they “warn” me that a puppy can cover up their pain. (Excuse me?!) We ask for 20 minutes alone with our puppy so that we can see how she’s doing and make decision. After about 10 min they came and rushed us, but the hospital is obviously half empty. We finally decide to take our puppy home. In addition I also want to mention Dr. Garrett (very rudely) said our puppy has behavior problem, ask us to take her to socialization class etc. But let me tell you, from 2mos old we carried her everywhere, and she’s the most calm puppy you can see in public; she finished her puppy class by 15 weeks old, trainer can’t stop praising her personality; we take her to parks to play with new dogs twice a week, new dog owners we met often comment on how well behaved she is. I want to ask, could it be that dog can tell good from bad? Could it be that how Dr. Garrett treated her rather than she being the problematic puppy? I rarely leave reviews, but I have to write our experience this time. P.s. puppy is full energy when we got home. Seeking food and water, playful, doing tricks to get treats again. No vomit, no diarrhea, nothing. Probably just really uncomfortable this morning with her teeth.

Jack Yang Posted on Google 7 months ago

Negative experience: Same as Safi and Maryam from the 2 most recent reviews. The doctor is Rachel Garrett and we had very similar experiences involving our pet. We brought our puppy because she was vomiting and we were not satisfied with the attitude and attention from the Doctor. We were billed $190 (+$100 parvo test) just to have an initial assessment that didn't tell us anything, not even about the current condition of our puppy. We gave a lot of information about our puppy's state before coming to the emergency and I feel she didn't care about any of these. Then the doctor's suggestion was to do a radiography and blood gas test, yet the doctor didn't exactly tell us how our puppy was doing after being admitted and therefore we couldn't make an assessment if our puppy during the 2 hours she's staying behind their ER area was getting worse or feeling better. The nurse later brought our puppy so we could see her and we determined that it was a waste of time because the doctor did not assess our information correctly. If you ever come to this place, save yourself some time and ask chat gpt instead. I'm very certain it will give a better assessment than Dr. Garrett.

Negative experience: Doctor's name Dr. Rachel Garrett Paid nearly $200 and my dog didn’t receive any real care. I came in for a cough that could have been caused by something stuck in her throat – a basic check any competent vet would do immediately. But Dr. Rachel Garret didn’t examine my dog at all: she didn’t check the throat, heart, or breathing, didn’t take weight or temperature, and asked no questions about vaccinations or medical history. Instead, she just read from a tablet a list of worst-case causes for coughing (asthma, heart issues) and recommended X-rays and other procedures totaling over $700. The report contained no real assessment of my dog’s condition, only “kennel cough,” which I was the one who mentioned. When asked if this was urgent or life-threatening, she said: “No, I don’t know, yes it’s needed”. I decided to stop the visit because it was clear – their priority is selling services, not caring for animals. Also The clinic was nearly empty, yet he was taken to a separate room and left alone, barking and crying, while I waited. Staff initially told me the doctor hadn’t seen him yet, then said she had already examined him. When the doctor finally came, she did not share my dog condition, temperature, or weight, immediately mentioned worst-case diagnoses, and suggested X-rays instead of starting with tests to identify the virus. Very stressful and disappointing experience. This clinic, in comparison, is a waste of time, money, and emotional stress. If you care about your pets – stay far away from this clinic!

Negative experience: I don't write many reviews. As a a healthcare professional, I have the duty to respect my patients decisions and to provide the highest level of care. If at anytime I unable to do so I would refer them somewhere else. That was not the case here at MASH. I feel very very obliged to write this review for ANYONE considering taking their pet for medical attention. Go to VCA, NOT MASH !!!! I arrived Friday, August 23rd with my cat , who has lymphoma. I wanted her to receive a blood test and to receive IV fluids. I had spent over 25,000 dollars two different times at VCA. My cat was my only living daughter and I would literally given her my organs for her to live a longer life. That is how much I loved and fought for Lucky. She was the world to me, and Dr. Rachel Garrett forced my decision. Prior to coming I specifically contacted MASH, does your hospital have an oncologist and cardiologist there tonight. She went and checked over the phone. She told me that they have an oncologist, but not a cardiologist tonight there. When I arrived with my cat that night, I discovered a lot of inconsistencies with the information I was provided. They told me that they had an oncologist, yet THERE WAS NO ONCOLOGIST at all !!! Second, Dr. RACHEL GARRETT was VERY RUDE AND UNPROFFESSIONAL from the start. Her priority was not to stabilize my cat's vitals, but to put her down immediately. My cat's condition was not new to me. That night my cat was weak, unable to stand on its four legs. She needed fluids and to get treatment. Her doctors at VCA told me to monitor her, and if I saw she was not feeling well to bring her in immediately. Dr. Rachel Garrett is NOT an experienced DVM !!!!! If I had known that she was so UNEXPERIENCED, I would've never taken her there. No residency, not board certified, went to medical school in the Caribbean, RECENTLY graduated, received her license July 2025. That is 1 month ago !!!!!!!! The issue is not only the level of experience that one expects, but also the lack of professionalism from a healthcare professional. She came into my room and stated to me "IF YOU DO NOT EUTHANIZE YOUR CAT, YOU WILL HAVE TO SIGN AN AMA, AND I WILL REPORT YOU FOR ANIMAL ABUSE!!! " Animal abuse !!!! I would die for my cat if I could !!! Shame on you for being such a horrible unprofessional human being !!! Furthermore, my boyfriend who was on speakerphone, was questioning her information. She asked if my boyfriend is a medical doctor, which he is. Why that matters is very surprising to me ? She left the room as she slammed the door behind her, (I was sitting next to the door). Is this by any means professional behavior No respect for patients and family !!! When I went to see my cat in the back to ask the CCU nurse, she said to me, " You are taking up my time , my CCU nurses' time and this space." She made me feel that I did not deserve to be there asking questions and having time with my cat despite already paying $1500. She also told me that my cat had an intestinal blockage. I asked her how do you know, she said she had done an ultrasound. I later found out that the radiologist was not present, and would be back in two days. Then the blood test. She was throwing numbers at me, I told her that I need the paper to look at her bloodwork. She tells me that her numbers are so high that it needs to be diluted. And those will not be available. So, again nothing to look at, but I am to believe what is coming from her mouth is accurate !!!! Right before my cat was euthanized, I asked for an estimate to leave my cat there. They come back with an estimate 10-15,000 dollars for two days.I paid only half at VCA when she was critical. The only animal abuse I see is from you Dr. Garrett !!! You have no feeling for animals that are sick , and even the last minutes of my cats life, you did not provide any condolences to me, a grieving mother, crying helplessly at her daughters last moments.

Fantastic experience: Staff at front desk are so patient and kind. Dr. Kirk was honest and helpful as well. DA checked in asap. Although i wish I could get the surgery my dog needs with them, it is a bit pricey. Overall, god forbid anything worse happens to any of my pets but if that were the case I will feel confident and safe about bringing my pets here.

Fantastic experience: They saved my cat’s life and were incredibly supportive throughout the whole process. He had to stay two nights hospitalized, and they kept us updated with calls and emails, which gave us peace of mind. The bill was high, but fair considering the emergency and the care he received. We are still waiting for the results, but thanks to their intervention we feel at peace with whatever the diagnosis may be.

Fantastic experience: Thank you Dr. Kirk, Dr. Jacinto, Riley, Corina, Gerald, and everyone else who helped my baby Theia through multiple visits and her 3 night stay, giving me updates, sending me photos, letting me visit her, and supporting her and me through this scary time. I could tell how scared and sick she was, but I also saw how she lit up when her care takers came into the room for visits. The compassion everyone shows here is touching. I hope she never needs to visit again, but I am grateful to know where to take her should we ever need it. Theia is so happy to be home and recovering well, thanks to the hard work of everyone here. <3

Negative experience: Avoid this place at all costs; most of their good reviews are most certainly fake if you actually read them. - I had my cat sitter drop of my 9 month kitten who had been lethargic, vomiting and having issues walking - I first mentioned to them that it was likely due to a blockage from swallowing something as I recognized the symptoms from personal experience - The "Dr" Claudia Medina insisted it wasn't a blockage - Charge $1000 for IV water + basic blood test - All of a sudden Medina thinks it might be a blockage... (demonstrates her lack of competence) - Next I get a quote for 24hrs of hospitalization and an ultrasound for 4-7k... this is $750 for an ultrasound when they could have just done an x-ray and for simple IV water overnight + outrageous and arbitrary fees - Next is simply the worst case of predatory parasitic behaviour that has given vets a bad name to so many people - Medina goes on to insist that this is the only way and that can't discharge him and that if I can't pay they will have to euthanize.. taking advantage of the fact that I was stressed, panicking, out of town and threatening me with his death if I didn't pay these absurd fees, I didn't have time to process how illegal this was and being pressured I ended paying $4,000 total for about 20hrs of IV water + ultrasound - Turns out it was a blockage like I initially suggested... - This is followed by incredibly suspicious and dishonest practices where Medina says their cost for surgery would be at least $8k.. (I've had it done for $1.5k before) - Medina was incredibly rude and defensive on the phone when we spoke to her only to be humbled when we pointed out her misunderstandings and errors in her explanation of basic physiology. - She then insists that the only cheaper options are a company called "CARES" and blue sky hospital - insisting it's the only option. - I get a call from CARES very soon after I email them from Sabine who somehow knows all about MASH and sympathizes with us for the pricing, all of it felt suspiciously rehearsed - I also receive an automated text from MASH only to be followed with an automated one from CARES from the exact same number and yet they never admit to be a conglomerate - Out of urgency we had him taken there for the surgery the next day where somehow the surgeon Williams knows all about MASH and even had a vet at MASH refer to her as a colleague - My kitten goes there for the surgery, naturally Sabine charges me $4.5k (the high end of her quote) - Their way of charging is identical to CARES - Their invoice is identical to CARES - Very responsive UNTIL I paid the bill after which they were extremely hard to get a hold of. Even after the surgery all I got was a text that it was complete, after an hour of texting and calling they finally call back and an assistant recaps very broad details. - After that when I text the number they gave me, I don't get responses - Naturally I text Sabine for updates who gets annoyed.. God forbid I ask for a single daily update for my cat after I pay them $4.5k... - Sabine goes off on a text rant saying they are too busy to respond (When I picked up my kitten there were multiple worked just chit chatting and one just sweeping the floors), that she was sacrificing her time calling me from her personal cell after hours (at no point did she indicate the hours nor that it was her personal cell - it was literally how she contacted me after I emailed) and that she did me a favour of capping the cost at $4.5k which was the highest end of her quote - I respond simply stating the facts and that I think it's fair to expect more prompt responses for patients and she blocks me... again unprofessional incompetence. The attachments below demonstrate that CARES and MASH are clearly working together more closely than they admit and the arbitrary fees they both charge. There's honestly so much more but there's a character limit so I'll just recap: Medina is an incompetent vet and Sabine is a dishonest woman who pretends to be sympathetic. Their whole operation is clearly fraudulent. Go anywhere else

Negative experience: Metropolitan Animal Specialty Hospital (MASH) is by far the worst animal hospital I have ever dealt with in Los Angeles. They are completely overpriced and predatory. I brought my cat in for a basic neuter procedure, and they tried to quote me $8,000 — yes, eight thousand dollars — just for nutrition and neutering! This is beyond absurd and feels like they are taking advantage of pet owners who just want the best for their animals. They clearly care more about racking up charges than actually helping pets. I left feeling shocked, upset, and disgusted. Please, do your research before trusting this place with your pet — there are many other vets in LA who provide honest, fair, and compassionate care. Save your pet — and your wallet — and stay far away from Metropolitan Animal Specialty Hospital (MASH).

Fantastic experience: My cat was diagnosed with kidney disease (CKD stage 2 with SUB surgery) and recently came with me to the U.S. from another country. Back home, we had been seeing a secondary referral hospital, so we needed more than just a regular clinic here — we needed a place that could provide specialized care and ongoing treatment. We’re incredibly grateful to Dr. Kuntz and Asheley from the Internal Medicine team at MASH for their attentive and compassionate care. They took the time to understand the treatments and prescriptions our cat had already been receiving and made sure her care continued seamlessly here in LA. It’s clear they have a deep understanding and experience with feline kidney disease. Most importantly, they go out of their way to make sure my cat isn’t stressed during visits. Finding MASH in LA truly feels like a stroke of luck. With the amazing care at MASH, I truly hope my cat will stay healthy and happy for a long, long time. Huge thanks to MASH. ‍⬛️

Fantastic experience: I just can't thank these guys enough. One of my cats has a LOT of complicated health issues, and unfortunately has been to MASH quite a lot. Dr. Kuntz- I just can't say how grateful I've been for all her help and guidance. She really, really cares about her patients and it shows. As far as the cost, yes, its expensive. Specialty and emergency care is. But both Dr. Kuntz and Dr. Hobson (the dentist) have told me when I should hold off on a certain treatment or test and save my money. That kind of honesty and sincerity is wonderful to find. The whole staff, from the security to the customer service to the techs and doctors have been just wonderful.

Fantastic experience: I had a great experience with MASH after having to take my senior pet after a dog attack at midnight. They were helpful and understanding. Overall 10/10 experience. I recommend for any over night emergencies

Positive experience: I’m giving this hospital three stars because they did help my 10 year-old corgi lab fix his knee problem with an orthopedic surgery called the TPLO however their post procedure protocol is extremely poor from the moment that you check your dog out after the orthopedic surgery, they don’t give you very detailed directions they send you home with pills and when you can’t get your dog to take the pills, they just tell you to call them and talk to them and when we do call them to talk to them they just refer us to YouTube videos. They don’t really want to help you after they get the surgery probably because they got their money. It’s very very sad to see how the capitalist economy works in this sense because it’s at the expense of our fur babies I’m now on day five my dog will not take his medication and they can’t do anything besides, tell me that They need to refer me to YouTube channel to learn how to administer the medication and also that my surgeon will be gone for the next three weeks. They’re not really able to help however, when your dog comes in and they need surgery, they are extremely nice and very accommodating a little peculiar to me, another offputting statement is that when I’m talking to them about this in a state of panic and trying to make sure my dog is taken care of they need to proceed to tell me that they’re going to charge me every time I come in to have them help me with administrating his medication I never asked to bring him in every time I wanted to talk to the doctor. I wanted to have clarity and I wanted to see other options that we could do like liquid format, medication or even injectables. I have been so kind to this team, I have done everything I could. I’ve paid them over $10,000. The least they could do is try to help me make sure that my dog recovers in the best way possible because right now it just looks like it’s a capitalist type of organization or all they want is their money and they don’t care about the animal.

Negative experience: Specialty departments are great. But avoid their emergency department at all costs. My cat has been a neuro patient for years and I've had a great experience with that department. When I was forced to take him to the emergency department it was the worst experience you could possibly imagine. My cat has neurological disorder and I've taken him to a handful of emergency departments over the years so I can tell you from experience that nothing compares to the nightmare that is their emergency department at MASH. They hurt my cat, misinformed me about his treatment, had wrong information about him that they swore by, and were condescending and unapologetic all the while. They even went as far as to tell me I should stop taking him to their neurology department and start having his primary vet handle his epilepsy. My primary vet recommended MASH to me in the first place and there was ZERO reason for them to say that he didnt need a specialist. It felt like I took my cat to the butcher the way they cut his arm up when they shaved the WHOLE paw in order to put one small IV in. They also said my cat was aggressive. I found this really odd since every doctor I've ever taken him too talks about how sweet he is - goes to show how they were treating him.

Fantastic experience: I took my elderly, sick dog to this clinic a few days ago. My family and I were desperate because she was very sick and old and we knew she wasn't going to last us longer. However, waiting for her to pass on her own was horrible to watch, so we decided to humanely put her down. The staff at MASH were friendly and very respectful. They let us stay with our beloved Eclipse before the procedure as long as we wanted, and they also let us stay with her after. It was the most difficult decision we took, but it was the best. They even offered us food for our dog and water.. Eclipse passes peacefully among us, her beloved family, and I won't forget how kind the staff were!!

Negative experience: I brought my dog here when she first became ill from cancer. They told me they didn’t know what was wrong after running tests for hours. However, they gave me a bottle of Prednisone, but they told me not to give it to my dog because they were not they didn’t know what was wrong. I have never heard of something like that before. Anyway, it was definitely cancer, which I ended up figuring out on my own before another hospital was able to confirm it. That hospital then prescribed the exact medication that MASH had already given me a week and a half prior. So basically, my dog suffered for a extra week and a half while I had the medication she needed all because mash told me not to give it to her. NEVER again.

Negative experience: We trusted Dr. Weeth with our beloved baby girl’s health at a critical time when she was diagnosed with what was thought to be chronic pancreatitis, in addition to her pre-existing chronic kidney disease. Nutrition was a crucial part of her treatment plan, which is why, after extensive research and advice from our internal medicine specialist, we chose Dr. Lisa Weeth to guide us through a homemade diet. Our initial consultation was expensive, but we hoped for comprehensive guidance. Instead, we left with only generic advice about commercial food (something we were already familiar with) and a single rushed homemade recipe. We were promised additional recipes and guidance. After a disappointing follow-up call, we were told to expect a second recipe within 7-10 days, but it never came. Instead, Dr. Weeth disappeared entirely. As our baby girl’s condition worsened, we reached out to Dr. Weeth through emails, phone calls, and even through specialists at MASH during our many visits. We heard nothing. No updates, no advice, no response. We even ran into Dr. Weeth’s assistant by chance, who had no idea we were struggling, further confirming that we had been completely abandoned. We were left to manage our sweet girl’s complex nutritional needs alone, with little to go on and no expert guidance. Despite being informed of everything that happened, Dr. Weeth has not once reached out. Not a word, no acknowledgment, no care. Dr. Weeth’s complete failure to follow through and provide the care she was entrusted with is not just disappointing; it’s inexcusable. Our experience reflects a profound neglect of basic professional responsibility and we deeply regret trusting her with our precious baby’s health. If this review helps even one other pet parent avoid the same mistake, it will have been worth sharing. We strongly advise thinking twice before trusting Dr. Weeth with your pet’s care.

Fantastic experience: I was referred to Mash, Dr. Bisignano who specializes in internal medicine by my regular veterinarian . I was most pleased with Dr. Bisignano. I am hopeful that Dr. Bisignano can solve my dogs issue. The staff is most helpful and very efficient!! I am thankful for my regular vets referral. I would recommend this facility.

Fantastic experience: Thank you so much to Dr. O’Neill and the Neurology team, yall are top notch. So responsive and caring. We also owe a ton to the Dermatology team. Our old lady Tootsie had an autoimmune issue that two other dermatologists could not figure out and one appointment with the Derm team at Mash and it was solved easily.

Fantastic experience: I am so happy to have my boy Biggie under Dr. O'Neil and team's care for his degenerative disk disease. I have felt despondent over this cruel fate striking our vibrant 7 year old rescue pug. Dr. O'Neil is trying a medication approach which may help manage his condition, allowing Biggie a continued quality life and us the gift of more time to enjoy him. Dr. O'Neil is a skilled neurologist and I am convinced he truly cares about our four legged family members. I recommend MASH with no reservation, beyond any other specialty vets we've encountered over the last 30 years of shared life with multiple dogs and cats.

Positive experience: Immediately took in my pet. They were ok. I had to put my pet down because the treatment was extremely out of my budget. They allowed me some time with him alone before the euthanasia. I heard some of the employees in their office across the hall talking about me crying… I’m losing my pet? Sorry that I did not have the money to treat my animal, I only got to spend a month with him before an accident ended his life. Very weird.

Fantastic experience: Came here a week ago as an emergency to put my beloved pet down for the amount of suffering she was going through. It was pretty late in the night and they were really patient , gave us a room fast, let us take our time with the whole thing and to grieve. The staff were really nice and were very gentle with my cat. I am glad I found this place last minute in order to provide care for my cat to put her at ease. The company they partner with to do the cremation worked fast , shipped it fast, and packaged everything with care and detail .

Metropolitan Animal Specialty Hospital (MASH)

We hope that the memories of your cherished companion bring you solace.

Fantastic experience: MASH is expensive, but totally worth the cost because they have some of the best trained veterinarians I've seen. If you have an animal with health issues, my cat has IBD, I highly recommend MASH. I credit their nutritionist, Dr. Weeth, for saving my cat from getting diabetes. Can't recommend her more!

Negative experience: I went to MUSH after calling ahead and being told there was no wait. However, when I arrived, I was asked to wait two hours, even though the clinic appeared empty and not busy at all. I arrived around 9:30 PM and wasn’t seen until much later. The staff, especially someone named Jasmine, was incredibly rude and unprofessional. She clearly had no understanding of or concern for basic customer service. Her attitude made an already stressful situation even worse. Once we finally saw the doctor, we had to wait another three hours, including an hour and a half just to receive the medication. It made no sense—especially late at night, when the place was empty. Instead of helping clients, the staff was chatting, eating snacks, and ignoring the urgency of their responsibilities. We paid extra for emergency care, but the service was extremely disappointing, disorganized, and frustrating. To make things worse, the medication they gave my dog caused a complete loss of appetite, and we had to see another vet the next day to get proper treatment. This experience was stressful, inconvenient, and unacceptable. I would not recommend this place to anyone looking for timely, respectful, and compassionate care for their pet.

Fantastic experience: Dr. Kirk and everyone on staff saved my 3 week old kitten’s life. I felt relieved as soon as I walked in the door. They took her vitals and quickly gave her oxygen. I was updated regularly and the vet had wonderful bedside manner, as well as the techs and front desk staff. This hospital is NOT a money grab, they genuinely care about your pet and are transparent about all costs (which seem to be better than Veterinary Emergency Group btw).

Metropolitan Animal Specialty Hospital (MASH)

We deeply respect your feedback and are truly grateful for your kind words, Jessie. We are thrilled to hear that Dr. Kirk and our entire staff were able to help save your kitten's life. It's heartwarming to know that you felt relieved upon entering our hospital and that our team provided regular updates throughout your visit. Fantastic experience: I recently learned MASH is permanently closing in June. This makes me very sad as they are the only vets that diagnosed my pup accurately. I visited over 5 different vets in several years and no one caught what his true condition was. I can only hope that we are notified where their veterinarians are going as I will happily follow them. I wish the best for all the vets and their staffs as everyone is top notch at MASH and they will be sorely missed.

Fantastic experience: MASH was there for us when we came home and saw our kitty was lethargic and had vomited until there was blood. We found them and called ahead and showed up around 1am. They immediately took her back and put her on an IV, and were so proactive in communicating throughout her care. The staff were so kind and understanding, and we got to stop by to visit her every day until she was discharged. They gave her a cozy enclosure with lots of blankets and a soft cat bed, so we didn’t feel as bad that she was there overnight. And when it was time for discharge, they gave her a big care package and medicine along with some treats to help make giving her the meds easier, and some new food to try to help her tummy troubles. I’m so sad to see they’re closing in June. It’s a real loss to pet parents in LA, but I’d follow this staff anywhere.

Metropolitan Animal Specialty Hospital (MASH)

Liz, we’re delighted to know that our team exceeded your expectations! Your kind words mean the world to us. Thank you for taking the time to share your experience.

Fantastic experience: MASH is where to go when a specialist is needed. Our beloved Rocket was in tip top form. Then suddenly she experienced bad pain. The hospital came highly recommended. The staff is welcoming and supportive. Neurologist Dr.Cigarroa is thorough and caring. She diagnosed the cause, patiently explained in layman terms a treatment, and path forward. Our pup is out of her pain cycle and returning to her quality of life. MASH showed us positive results. We are enormously grateful.

Fantastic experience: We had a fantastic experience with Metropolitan Animal Specialty Hospital. We had a nightmare scenario with a pet sitter who gave our diabetic cat way too much insulin. Thankfully they realized their mistake quickly and contacted us - it was then we contacted MASH who told us if she was brought in there would be no wait, so the pet sitter did so immediately. We were contacted by the doctor who was optimistic, and throughout her entire stay they sent us photos (which we did not ask for - I didn't even think an emergency hospital would have time for that!!) and called us with twice daily updates on how she was doing. This was routinely done, even through all of the shift changes of the doctors. They saved her life, and we are SO relieved and SO grateful for the care she received. They even at one point told us her blood sugar was looking really good for a diabetic cat (usually it's much higher than normal from being stressed at the vet), so I know they must have been spoiling her and making sure she was well taken care of. Since we were out of town for a death in the family, we were unable to return home immediately to retrieve our cat. They thankfully were able to board her for the extra two days we would be away. Since we no longer trusted this pet sitter and couldn't get someone else to watch our diabetic cat on such short notice, we were SO relieved that she would be taken care of and monitored while we were away.

Metropolitan Animal Specialty Hospital (MASH)

We are honored to have been able to provide exceptional care for your diabetic cat during this challenging situation, Leah. Our team is dedicated to offering the best possible treatment and support for all our patients and their families. We're glad we could offer you peace of mind with our regular updates and photos while you were away. We're pleased we could accommodate the extra boarding days to ensure your cat's continued care and monitoring. Thank you for sharing your experience with us and for trusting us with your beloved pet's care. Your feedback means a lot to our entire team.

Fantastic experience: My doggy, Penny, is a new patient for MASH, but so far the experience has been excellent! Dermalologist Eva Ganz was so very thorough and was able to decipher the records from two prior vets, and she seems to have found an underlying reason for Penny’s recent decline in health. Had not been for MASH, I truly believe that my little doggie would not have recovered. The front desk staff is warm and professional, and I felt supported during a very stressful time. We are waiting for test results, but I am happy to say that Penny is feeling much better and stronger and the vet was not hesitant to make a plan of action while waiting for test results. She also ran a test that prevented Penny from developing kidney problems on medication recommended by prior vet. I have been to several vets in search of a concise diagnosis, and MASH delivered! I am so very grateful to have found this high quality 24-hour speciality group! Their hours also made it easier not to interfere with my work hours. Highly recommended, especially for difficult illnesses.

Metropolitan Animal Specialty Hospital (MASH)

Thank you for your detailed and heartfelt review, Gina. We are truly privileged to have been able to help Penny feel better. We're glad that Dr. Eva Ganz was able to thoroughly examine Penny's records and identify the underlying cause of her health issues. It's wonderful to hear that Penny is feeling much better and stronger now. We appreciate your kind words about our front desk staff and our 24-hour availability. Your recommendation means a lot to us, and we're grateful for the trust you've placed in MASH for Penny's care.

Negative experience: ***EDIT: my dog has been officially diagnosed with PSS (portosystemic shunt) and we have a recovery plan for him in place. If I had listened to Dr.Barbic, my puppy wouldn't be alive right now or I would be in immense financial debt.*** Review: I'm not at all impressed with the diagnosis from this facility. I brought in my 8 month old puppy (mixed breed) around 12am because he was drooling excessively, trembling, walking in circles, and breathing a bit hard. I'll give a star for the staff there since they were nice and willing to work with my budget but the diagnosis was crazy. After several hours waiting I met with Dr. Barbic and she told me that my dog had a dislocated jaw/broken jaw, head trauma, blindness, and brain swelling. He could also possibly have distemper. The diagnosis was based on a physical exam, not an Xray, blood work or MRI. Then she suggested my puppy stay overnight and see a neurologist in the morning but since I can't afford that it would be humane to euthanize him. I immediately said no and I took my dog home. At no point did she suggest I get a second opinion. While there my dog received a number of medication including anti-nausea meds, fluids, and medicine for brain swelling. When we got home he returned to normal. A few hours later we went to our usual vet who also conducted a physical exam and did not find a broken jaw, blindness, or swelling of the brain. She thinks he has PSS and we're doing blood work for that. I can't believe how wrong the initial diagnosis we received. Dr.Barbic made it seem like my dog was contageous and we had somehow hurt him when in fact he just might have a liver problem that he was born with. What really upsets me is that I read what Dr.Barbic put in her notes of the physical exam and nowhere does it say for certain that he had any of the things she listed. She wrote he could "mandible hanging open [...] (possible dislocation +/- fracture). In the neurological notes, there is no mention of brain swelling. She told me his diagnosis as if they were facts when she wasn't fully sure. I returned home feeling like the worst owner ever and had an anxiety attack based on her diagnosis. I can't advise whether or not to go here, but based on my experience I doubt I will come back. I would rather wait for my vet.

Metropolitan Animal Specialty Hospital (MASH)

Hi Vanessa, thank you for sharing your experience with us. We’re truly sorry to hear about your dissatisfaction and understand how distressing potential diagnoses for your puppy can be. Our veterinarians aim to provide accurate assessments based on the available information, especially in emergencies. We regret that our communication may have added to your stress. We’re relieved your puppy is doing better and that your primary vet is working to find the cause of his symptoms. Your feedback is important, and we will use it to improve our communication. If you’d like to discuss this further, please reach out to our team directly at (855) 350-7387.

Negative experience: Took my maltipoo to them for possible cough issues and they locked him up in an isolated room for over an hour. Poor guy was having a nervous break down and they wouldnt let me go inside to sooth him. After an hour, they told me I can go home if I want because examining him would take another 2 hours. This place is a nut house. I grabbed my guy and left. He is super traumatized and I still havent been able to calm him down nearly an hour after we got home!!

Fantastic experience: Dr Kirk and Chris at reception were both extremely helpful, knowledgeable and patient with all the questions we had as this was our first visit to MASH or anything of the sort. Dr Kirk did everything he could and helped give us recommendations on food for young kittens that were a little ill with a lowered appetite. He answered any and every question we had with expert knowledge. Chris was also amazing and demonstrated great patience when dealing with our questions, as well as helped fix an error made on billing that included extra charges that we were told wouldn't be charged. Thank you both very much. I couldn't recommend these two gentlemen enough.

Fantastic experience: Dr Cigarroa and her neurology staff are the best! To ensure I was getting the best care possible for my dog, I ended up getting a second and third opinion from other neurologists and ended up right back with Dr. Cigarroa! I know my dog is getting the best treatment and care by her and her staff. I don’t like leaving my dog with anyone, but I feel completely comfortable leaving her there all day to get the injections she needs every 3 weeks, and I know she is in good hands! I completely trust Dr Cigarroa’s knowledge and expertise and the staff is always happy to see my dog when she comes in. I highly recommend Dr. Cigarroa and her neurology team!

Fantastic experience: I have to be totally honest, I was extremely apprehensive about taking my cat to MASH. My regular vet recommended the facility for their internal medicine department. Some of the Google reviews gave me pause and some anxiety about other pet owners experiences, especially with the financial hardship stories. While I was put off by the initial asking of a $$$ deposit, for my appointment. I did appreciate the professional conduct of everybody, including Dr Jodi Kuntz during my visit. An ultrasound had to be performed from my little buddy. Dr Kintz walked me through a lot of information and followed up the next day with a very thorough email report! I hugely appreciated email since I was a little stressed out at the time. Dr. Kuntz also made a point to follow up with a phone call, Since I had emailed her with additional questions. I’ve never had service quite like this at any veterinarian hospital. Yeah, it is a little expensive but you get what you pay for. Prescriptions may have seemed a little high, but one gets accustomed to having human health insurance with those lovely deductibles. Thank you MASH

Fantastic experience: I cannot say enough good things about MASH. After a month of misery with my pup in so much pain and barely eating / drinking and falling down different rabbit holes with our vet (not really even their fault), by the time we got here we were seen the next day for a consult, and into MRI and surgery the following morning. Four days later my dog has blossomed back to the friend I knew before IVDD, with tons of info to hopefully help prevent our issues again. The team was so kind, communicative, and knowledgeable, and I trusted them completely. While yes, by the time your dog gets here things are bound to be expensive, I believe they keep costs as low as they can to service as many as they can. They are wholly worth it, to bring your best friend out of pain and make them happy again. ❤️

Metropolitan Animal Specialty Hospital (MASH)

We are overjoyed to hear about your positive experience at Metropolitan Animal Specialty Hospital. Thank you for sharing your feedback! We're glad our team was able to provide timely care for your pup and help alleviate their pain. It's wonderful to hear that your dog has recovered so well after the surgery. Fantastic experience: This is exactly how a pet hospital should operate! I brought my girl here for the first time the other day, and when we walked in, I felt at ease. The friendly staff—and even a social worker—made such a difference. They also had Friends playing on the TV in the lobby, which was really comforting. Everything was clear—no confusion about what was happening—and everyone was incredibly kind and welcoming. They fit my pup in last minute, which I truly appreciated. Thank you all for turning what felt like a scary situation into a comforting experience!

Fantastic experience: The staff at MASH were so helpful from start to finish. I could tell from my initial phone call they were compassionate and patient. Upon bringing my pet into the ER they were timely and efficient and explained everything to me clearly. The costs were high but I don’t necessarily think that is their fault. Overall, I was satisfied with my visit there and their handling of my pet.

Fantastic experience: I love this place and so glad we chose it. Everyone you interact with loves animals, or at least knows how to act like they do. They took extra special care to help our nervous girl calm down, called us afterwards to check in, were available to review videos we sent in of our dog after the appointment and called us back right away to give their feedback. 10 out of 10 experience.

Fantastic experience: Appreciate MASH so much! We have a very old dog and came to the emergency room in distress. Staff was calm, competent, and reassuring, and very communicative about timing, options and costs. The doc on call, Dr. Ahn, was realistic about our dog's age and the results of his lab tests, and helped us sort through options that would be best for us. They reached out to our primary vet to gather more information and to understand the larger picture. The follow up call with additional labs was an equally honest and supportive conversation. Kindness and competence go a long way in an emergency situation that can be stressful and high emotion. We had a really great experience.

Metropolitan Animal Specialty Hospital (MASH)

We deeply appreciate you taking the time to share your experience with Metropolitan Animal Specialty Hospital. Your positive feedback is greatly valued and serves as a testament to the dedication of our team. Fantastic experience: We have been seeing Dr. Weeth at MASH for about a year. From the first appointment to all the rechecks Dr. Weeth has listened to our concerns, answered all our questions, and also has explained everything in a way that was easy to understand. She is extremely personable, kind, loving to our pup, and we have never felt rushed during each appointment. Making a homemade diet seems overwhelming but her recipes are very easy. Within just a few months of the diet change my pups kidney numbers had stabilized and still are! Along the way as other issues have popped up that are not directly associated with her diet she is always willing to listen and provide advice. She is an instrumental part of our Pixie’s care team. I am so glad we found her when we did!

Fantastic experience: I cannot recommend Dr. Jeremy O’Neill and the entire team at MASH highly enough! Dr. O’Neill is an extraordinary veterinary neurologist whose skill, experience, and compassion shine through in every aspect of his work. When my pup needed an MRI and an unexpected emergency procedure, Dr. O’Neill navigated the situation flawlessly. He kept me informed every step of the way, ensuring I understood what was happening and what to expect. His ability to explain complex medical information with patience and clarity gave me so much peace of mind during an incredibly stressful time. What truly sets Dr. O’Neill apart is his humility and kindness, despite being such a highly skilled specialist. It’s clear that he is deeply dedicated to his patients and their families. Most importantly, he kept my baby safe throughout the entire procedure, and for that, I am forever grateful. His team at MASH is just as phenomenal! Fantastic experience: Our dog had an emergency where a toxin he ate required immediate life-saving treatment. My first advice to readers is to have an emergency pet clinic on speed dial BEFORE you have an emergency because your regular vet may not have the expertise or capacity to take your pet on such short notice. My second piece of advice it to have APCC (animal poison control) also on speed dial because they will open a case for you, and put one of their toxicologists on notice who will immediately prepare a treatment plan for the emergency vet to administer. Had we known both of the above, we would have saved at least 45 minutes of frantic problem solving. MASH was amazing. They accepted our dog over the phone right away and were waiting for us when we arrived. They took our dog then seated us in a very peaceful waiting room. They required a $1500 up-front deposit and about 30 mins later presented us with a prognosis and treatment plan. The prognosis for his survival was about 50/50, and in this particular instance, all they could do was sedate him, hydrate him, and monitor him as his body fought against the toxin. So even though they didn't do much by way of a medical intervention, their detailed knowledge of what was happening and their ability to monitor him and administer on-the-spot resuscitation (if needed) gave us as much peace of mind as we could reasonably expect at the time. Miraculously, our brave little terrier pulled thru and his heart rate and blood pressure (which were through the roof) returned to normal 24 hours after he ingested the toxin. We received a hi/lo estimate for the total cost of treatment (between $4,000 and $8,000), all depending on the required in response to any sudden changes in his condition. We were required to provide a 75% deposit on the high end of the estimate (less the $1500 we had already been charged). As it turned out, the total cost of treatment was under $4000, and they refunded a large portion of our deposit. As for the staff and doctors, they could not have been more professional. I have a pretty low opinion of veterinary care nowadays. The general standard of care is somewhere between good enough and just OK. And the bedside manner of intake staff is usually dreadful. But everyone at MASH was calm, considerate, and extremely professional. They took their time explaining the dog's situation/odds, and answered all of our questions with a high degree of sensitivity and expertise. It felt like, given how awful the situation was, we were in the best possible hands. And they were totally non-judgmental about whatever on-the-spot decisions we had to make about affordability and DNR. I am a great believer in silver linings even in the most dire circumstances, and MASH certainly was that. The other unsung hero in this (aside from our dog) is Embrace pet insurance. Our dog is 14 and otherwise very healthy, but we also know he doesn't have many years left. As he ages, his insurance premium jumps by leaps and bounds every year. But we have always prioritized it "just in case" (and there is alway some "just in case" that pops up when we least expect it). Embrace is totally reliable and no-hassle when it comes to reimbursement as long as your doctor provides good documentation. Fortunately, we have a credit card with a high limit. But what really made the decision to save our old dog's life an easy one was knowing that we had insurance that covers 90% of costs (less a $1000 deductible, which we had pretty much already met as it was late in this year's plan term). So we ended up owing about $550 on a $3900 treatment. I know $550 is a lot of money for some people, but your pet's life is worth at least that much. Even if your pet is old, get insurance.

Fantastic experience: Our sweet pup had to spend a few nights in the icu here. I felt like he was being well cared for — the staff provided thorough updates and pictures to keep me posted on his progress. They explained everything clearly and realistically. The cost is high, so know that they accept care credit and scratch pay if you need help paying your bill. Hopefully you never have to make a trip here, but if you have an emergency you will be in good hands.

Metropolitan Animal Specialty Hospital (MASH)

We are honored to have been able to provide excellent care for your pup during their stay in the ICU. We're glad to hear that our staff kept you well-informed with thorough updates and pictures of your pet's progress. Our team hopes your pup has fully recovered. Thank you for your wonderful feedback, Kelsey.

Fantastic experience: I’ve always had MASH on my radar for any pet emergencies but have been fortunate not to need a trip there until this past weekend. While the clinic was clean, my stand out experience was the friendliness of the staff. I could feel the passion and care from each one of them which was a great comfort in what can be a scary time for pet owners. Our pup didn’t have the most critical case, so it took a while for him to be treated (understandably). That said their intake and triage process was quick and efficient. They gave us a great overlook of his likely timeline for treatment which allowed us to wait at home and return to pick him up which was appreciated in a middle of the night visit. No questions asked I would return to MASH for any future emergencies (but hoping we don’t have one).

Metropolitan Animal Specialty Hospital (MASH)

We are pleased to hear about your positive experience at Metropolitan Animal Specialty Hospital, Sydney. We're glad our staff's friendliness and passion for care provided comfort during your visit. We appreciate your understanding of our triage process and are happy we could accommodate you with a timeline for treatment. While we hope you won't need our emergency services again, we're here if you ever do.

Fantastic experience: I've had an internal medicine consult meeting and and a consult with surgeon thus far....My dog became sick in late Nov 2024. It was initially diagnosed as pancreatitis. Since then he's been unable to put back weight he's lost from going days with eating little to nothing despite my best efforts to get him to eat. I finally realized he needs more specialized care than our normal vet so took him to MASH. After spending thousands of dollars on tests, medications etc since Nov (and my dog not rebounding) I have finally have a diagnosis - it's not pancreatitis, it's a blockage in his intestine. He must have surgery to assess (and hopefully remove). The blockage is the cause of upset tummy, pain, lack of desire to eat bc when he eats he hurst/doesn't feel well. Surgery is book in 5 days. Fingers crossed it goes well. I am very thankful to know a real diagnosis as it's helped us adjust his food, add in low pain meds/anti-nausea meds, move to puree'd kibble etc. and it's helped him gain a little more weight in only a week.

Metropolitan Animal Specialty Hospital (MASH)

We're overjoyed to hear about the progress your dog has made after the diagnosis, Leah. It's wonderful that knowing the real cause has allowed you to make adjustments that have helped your dog gain some weight. We understand how challenging and worrying this journey has been for you since November. Thank you for trusting us with your dog's specialized care and for sharing your experience with us. We hope the upcoming surgery goes well and leads to a full recovery for your beloved pet.

Fantastic experience: We were very well taken care of by MASH when we visited their emergency vet in the middle of the night last weekend. There was unfortunately an incredibly long wait - however, the staff was very upfront on wait times. Our kitty was triaged immediately to be sure it was safe for her to wait for care. The staff kept us updated as we waited and even though the vet was seeing so many patients he didn't rush his time with us. He was efficient but thorough. We left with the medication we needed for our sweet kitty and felt confident that if we needed anything all we needed to do was call. We're so grateful to have such a great emergency vet to call on should we need them again.

Fantastic experience: Saying goodbye to our beloved cat in January was one of the most heartbreaking decisions we have ever faced. Under the good advice of the veterinarian, we made this difficult choice, always prioritizing the well-being of our dear companion. We are deeply grateful for the compassionate care and thoughtfulness shown by the entire team, especially during the late hours when we needed it most. Their kindness, patience and respect towards us and our beloved cat made an incredible difference during such a difficult time. At 17, our precious “baby” held such a special place in our hearts, and the grief of losing her is still so fresh. Receiving his ashes was an important part of our healing journey, and the simplicity of the process surprised us. Thanks for everything. Your kindness will always be remembered!

Fantastic experience: I called before I got there, they were waiting for me as I walked in with my elderly dog. From the moment I handed him over, I knew my dog was in good hands. Quickly thereafter someone came and asked me if I would like my dog to see a specialist, which at that point I really wanted him to then within 30 minutes. I was in the doctors office going over the prognosis. Today my dog is feeling good and I know he was treated right. Thank you MASH!!!

Fantastic experience: MASH is a wonderful hospital. I have successfully had my dog treated there on multiple occasions, including two emergency injuries and one planned visit for a root canal. The staff are all very kind, and the doctors are great at their jobs and at explaining their diagnoses and treatments. I highly recommend them for high quality and specialized veterinary care.

Fantastic experience: I had nothing but excellent experiences with MASH. When my own dog was (maybe) bitten by a rattlesnake, their staff was already outside waiting for us. When I had to take a foster dog there and he had to be let go, they did it with so much love, respect, and dignity for the dog as well as for us. It was sad but at the same time it was beautiful and felt right. All their vets and staff have been kind and caring.

Negative experience: I’m am so tired of vets milking every last dollar from you. I was here once before and paid the $300 they said I owed then they sprang and additional $70 on it I complained they said it was ok and I left. Now I’m here in an emergency and they’re sinking their hooks in again saying I still owe that $70. So predatory and unprofessional. Additionally they Charged me $39 for 2 pills of Carprofen (2 Pills!) that I then have to cut into 1/4's (Quarters! see pic below). The pills cost under $1 each on Chewy. They also wanted to run a $100 kidney test to prescribe what is Ibuprofen for dogs. My dog had a $10k discectomy 5 years ago and over did it playing as she's getting older and is currently in pain and has weak rear end like before. Her vet is out of town and we needed a script for some pain meds is all. My vet, the vet on staff at MASH, and myself all agree she needs create rest with pain and inflammation meds. $350 later without the kidney test. Make it make sense! I wish I could walk into a vet and be grateful for help and healing but it's always ridiculously inflated medications, unneeded tests and an crazy appointment fee to where putting off something important for fear of an insane bill is just as common for my dog as it is for myself. Also the Gabapentan is $3.30 for 30 pill vrs mash $30 that s 1000% markup. Make it make sense!

Fantastic experience: Absolutely incredible!! I came in at 1am with my sick puppy and the Dr and tech on call immediately took him in, calmed my nerves, and completely revitalized my fur baby. I believe the doctor’s name was Dr. Josh Yoon - he was so thorough, knowledgeable, helpful and followed up the next day to ensure everything was ok.
