Services
Pet Care Veterinary Hospital: Reviews
Fantastic experience: Dr. Hulls is amazing with our stubborn rabbit Stewart who recently was diagnosed with cancer. We know Stewart is a tough bun to work with, but you guys are amazing
Fantastic experience: Dr. Hulls was very informative and thorough in his exam. He also took the time to review my pets’ medical history, which I very much appreciated! The techs were also amazing and very skilled at what they do!
Fantastic experience: DR.Hulls is the best and Manager Terry deserves AAA+ She runs her office well.
Fantastic experience: Amazing and friendly staff. They are very patient and knowledgable in dealing with my sometimes difficult dog.
Negative experience: Took my son's bird Apolo here February 6th. The Doctor that he seen didn't give us any comfort or hope that anything could be done. I didn't have a good feeling about him either due to the way he presented himself. He did not have good energy. I didn't like the way he handled Apolo either. Apolo had a broken leg that was healing that we didn't know he had. The Doctor did a feel test, some blood work, said his leg was deformed, told us he was handicap, under weight and ASSURED us that no other vet could help us. My son and I were in tears leaving. We were so distraught that I didn't go to work the next day, and my son didn't go to school. We thought we would have to lay our bird to rest because we didn't want him to live in pain or be handicaped as the doctor put it. Apolo is only 2. Paid for services, and I still haven't heard back from this place. He got his beak trimmed which it was overdone on the left side and some oral pain medication. Guess what I took Apolo to get a second opinion because you never trust one, and the moment we walked in the office we felt welcomed. We knew we were in the right place, and with an x-ray, blood work, medication, food prescribed and a educated plan my conure has shown great improvement. The staff even call to check on Apolo. He was handled with so much care. He was using his beak to get around. Now he's actually walking again, gaining mobility, gaining weight and getting back to his playful self.
Fantastic experience: Dr Hulls has been going above and beyond for years with the animals I bring!
Fantastic experience: Wonderful staff. They knew how to handle our feral cats in a calming manner.
Fantastic experience: After 25 years of pet ownership I am so grateful to have found this team. They are thoughtful, organized, professional and reasonably priced. They asked great questions that put me at ease at our first time appointment for our new rescue. I got to opt out of suggestions that didn't fit our needs and opt in for others that did. They also were hands down magical for my puppy pet-icure. He gets screamy and anxious with everyone else and with their gentleness and peanut butter bribes, my puppy was quiet and accommodating. Additionally, when we needed more nail trimming, they recommended the groomer adjacent to them The Ruff House Bayside and they were equally amazing! I hope you'll check out this team for your pet care needs.
Fantastic experience: Dr Piper is great! Very good with my dog who can be reactive and very informative and thorough
Fantastic experience: I've been a client of this practice for almost 3 years and they've always been great! They're always very professional and it's always such a nice vibe whenever I walk in. I love that the staff has clear communication and is also very responsive to any emails I send. I always feel taken care of and that any questions I have are answered. I never leave feeling confused or like there are any oversights with my babies. I also really like that they have an app that I can schedule appointments through and manage my pets' information and stuff. As someone who struggles with phone calls, this is something that I really appreciate. My partner and I are especially appreciative of how they helped us through one of our cats contracting FIP. We never felt judged about our decisions and they worked very hard to help her as best as they could up until the very end. When she left us, I could tell that the staff genuinely cared for both her and us. They even sent us a letter signed by everyone. Overall, I highly recommend Pet Care Veterinary Hospital. I trust this practice and the people in it to care for my treasures.
Fantastic experience: Staff was very accepting and accommodating to my American Bully who has resource guarding issues and can be reactive. It was a very calm environment and examination and the veterinarian and tech staff were on point with how to approach my dog and assess his ouchies without triggering him. He's a sweet boy and I'm glad they were able to see that side of him. We were very well taken care of and not judged for my dog's behavior. I am very happy I established care here and I know Hamburger was very happy there too.
Negative experience: I had a horrible experience with Pet Care Veterinary Hospital that I will never forget. My sugar glider went in for dental surgery and was significantly injured when a scalpel cut off part of the patagium attached to his arm (his "wing") while being prepped for surgery. Let that sink in--he was hurt while he was sedated, before the procedure even began, and was sliced on the arm while getting ready for DENTAL surgery. Because of this injury, which cut over an inch of patagium away from his arm, my sugar glider had to be separated from his bonded cage mate for nearly two months while he healed. The mishap was presented to us as a "small problem," devoid of any real apology or plan for making the injury better. Anyone familiar with sugar gliders knows how devastating and stressful forced separation is for them. The trauma this caused for both of my gliders was heartbreaking to witness, and it took an enormous emotional toll on me as a loving and attentive pet owner, especially with the lack of compassion we received from PCVH. This was not a minor mistake--it was a serious lapse in care and handling. The physical injury, prolonged recovery, and the emotional trauma that followed were completely unavoidable. This comes after a second experience, where they completely misdiagnosed a pet of mine, leading to its prolonged suffering while cancer slowly ate it alive from the inside. I will NEVER return to this hospital. Frankly, I wouldn't even trust their practice with a pet rock. If you value your pet's safety, well-being, and emotional health, steer clear of Pet Care Veterinary Hospital.
Fantastic experience: This is by far the best place to take your beloved pet for care and emergency services! We have recently experienced the loss of our dog. We first spoke with Onya about possible euthanasia, cremation and other sentimental keepsakes-she took the time & answered all our questions with empathy and compassion. However, our little buddy decided to go out on his own terms and passed peacefully in his sleep. We called the clinic when they opened. They took is in immediately. Ashley, the vet tech, was so patient and so dedicated. Ashley went above and beyond, she was very patient and compassionate. Her only concern was our comfort and ensuring our family was giving our little guy the best possible farewell. We inquired about paw prints and fur clippings and she was all to happy to accommodate us. Because of her and the other staff members we left feeling like we couldn't have chosen a better clinic, that our little Tyson was in the best hands, and would be treated with the respect he deserved. Every employee we have dealt with on our most recent visit and all visits before hand are true professionals and top notch human beings. Every member is a credit to the vetinary profession.
Fantastic experience: Pet Care was able to get our sugar glider Buttercup in quickly which means everything because they are very fragile when it comes to their health. They found the problem, called me and explained everything, and really calmed my concerns. They praised us for how well we take care of her and healthy she is. They made sure we had the antibiotics needed before we picked her up and just really put us at ease. Thank You for all you do for these exotic pets.
Fantastic experience: I've been taking my pets here for over 30 years and I wouldn't want to go anywhere else. Everyone is friendly, experienced, and even my dogs don't seem to mind too much! The quality of care is outstanding. They also include so many different kinds of pets in their practice so my birds are treated there also. Highly recommended!
Fantastic experience: The whole staff is polite. The waiting room is comfortable and the waiting was minimal. Dr. Hulls took excellent care of my dog Lincoln. He did a thorough exam and answered all my questions. Lincoln felt calm and happy even though the vet is not his favorite place. I highly recommend Pet Care to anyone with a loved fur baby.
Fantastic experience: Pet Care is hands down the BEST vet in Virginia Beach, potentially all of Hampton Roads. Friendly staff, rockstar vets, and a welcoming atmosphere. Your pets will be in good hands here.
Fantastic experience: Dr. Hulls and his technician/assistant were excellent with our cat Penny. Their calm and gentle demeanor eased Penny’s (and our!) anxiety. Dr. Hulls answered our questions thoughtfully and when Penny meowed, he meowed back Penny saw a female veterinarian a year ago, maybe Dr. Harrington, who was also exceptional. We are so pleased with this practice!
Fantastic experience: We take our dogs here regularly and love everyone. They make sure you understand your options and never feel like they're trying to upsell anything. We love them!
Fantastic experience: Loved the new set up during COVID. My cat was way more calm waiting in our vehicle and when the appointment was over (No more sitting in waiting room with other pets to make her fearful). Smooth transitions between owner and office. I am very impressed. We "met" Dr Middlebrooks for the first time and she was fantastic. Thank you!
Fantastic experience: Dr Hulls, Laura, and Rachael are the most patient, kind, compassionate ever.
Fantastic experience: I had a leopard gecko that was 14 years old. I recently had to put her to sleep and the vets and staff at Pet Care Vet Hospital have been very helpful and caring during the whole process. I highly recommend them for all your pet care needs.
Fantastic experience: Im so glad we came here and the reason I did is because almost allll other emergency pet places around me is rated like 3.5 or lower on google so I said "Heck no" lol and im so glad i did! The staff there was amazing and super knowledgeable and helpful. They didnt try and do extra for more money like I expected. We was expecting maybe to need an x-ray done and the doctor didnt even feel that way because of how he was responding and sure enough within 2 days after some meds hes back to jumping and being his aweself! Awesome awesome. I know most would have done an x-ray just for more money and they didnt at all. Was super pleased with just everything there. And if you just do the online pre visit thing you'll see they ask you questions youve never been asked before like "whats their favorite treat for a visit". Do they get along with other animals or dogs and if so what types? Just so many things not even my normal vet has asked us so really REALLY great staff here. If anything ever happens im coming back to this place without question!
Fantastic experience: Good and caring vets. I am using this business for the second time. First time for my rabbit that passed away a few years ago. Now, for my wonderful grandson lol, Kiko.
Fantastic experience: The vet and techs are so gentle and patient and understanding. They really care about how your pet is feeling, if they're uneasy etc. I was taken right on time for my dog's appointment and did not wait long. Great place I will return to for continued care!
Fantastic experience: Amazing staff all the way around. Have not met a single person there that didn't come across as caring and loving to all pets. Dr. Hulls was amazing and I'm so happy to have found a great vet for my rabbit. If you need a bunny savvy vet I would highly recommend Pet Care! They took time to educate me, shared a booklet on bunny care that I was allowed to keep and completed her spay without incident. If I could give more than 5 stars I would!
Fantastic experience: The ladies at the front desk have been very nice to work with. Josh was extremely friendly along with Dr. Piper who really put my mind at ease with Olive’s surgery. Dr. Piper did a great job expressing his confidence allaying any concerns or nervousness that I had. His passion for his craft and love of animals made me feel so much more at ease that our little Olive was in the best hands. Thank you so much.
Negative experience: We left this vet last week after more than 5 years and with care involving two dogs and a cat. The quality of service and care has fallen off a cliff. The corporate parent and their focus on extracting every possible dollar from their clients is destroying the trust that was developed over years of quality care. These animals are part of our family and that apparently is a fact that some now believe can exploited. It's sad and unseemly.
Fantastic experience: You guys take such good care of boomer and pepper but you’re good with all the animals You guys do an awesome job. We love you guys.
Fantastic experience: We have been bringing our furry babies to this Vet for almost 11 years now. It’s a wonderful establishment with educated staff and a very clean environment.
Fantastic experience: I brought in my snake Lane (La-n-ie) for reptile mites. While not typically deadly she had gotten some of the mites in her eyes which was very worrying for us. The staff was very kind and helpful even giving us suggestions to help her before her appointment. Thankfully Lane is doing much better now due to their help and recommendations. I also very much appreciated how much care they took in getting her name correct. While it may not be very important to some people Lanes name comes from my boyfriends Native American language and it very important to us. The care and consideration they took with both her and us was very refreshing (especially since I was in such a panic).
Fantastic experience: When my friends talk about their vet clinic they are surprised about the high quality of care that my animals have recieved over the many many years we have been coming to Pet Care. I would give them 10 stars if I could they are amazing, kind caring animal lovers. You cannot go wrong allowing them to take care of your precious dogs, cats and small animals. Our entire family uses Pet Care we would not go anywhere else!
Fantastic experience: They were able to get us in last minute and were extremely attentive and helpful. They made her first visit very pleasant and you can tell they love what they do. Would definitely recommend!
Negative experience: This is my vet for my pets and they have been pretty good until recently. My dog chewed a cord and since then had diarrhea. She has been in for X-rays by vest hospital which I had to take her too because pet care would not see her. Dr Piper saw her after that but only treated the symptom because her fecal test was normal. 3 weeks of chicken and rice and probiotics with a binding agent and anti diarrhea med and the diarrhea has returned with blood. Called twice and front desk girl Katrina I think her name is sends him a message for him to call me and as of now it has been 2 hours and still haven’t heard anything. I am so frustrated at this point and wasn’t offered an appointment to be seen or anything. Just waiting on a call that never seems to come and I am trying to help my baby. No one seems to be concerned that she may have the cord in her still that is hurting her body. So disappointed
Fantastic experience: I've taken two rabbits there now for surgical services and the veterinarian and staff just blew me away with their knowledge and skills. The price of service was well below what I was expecting as well. I'm ready to take all of my animals there.
Negative experience: My puppy is permanently injured due to inability/inaction from this vet office. Every day I see her limping I am more enraged and ashamed for not taking her somewhere else sooner and she will have 8+ years of pain or amputation and will never know a clean bill of health because of this office. I brought her in 3 months old for a check up and told them she occasionally has a limp. She is well behaved so she walked well in the office and never physically reacted to touch, but I showed videos at the 4 visits with 2 doctors I had in the span of 2 months. Every time they said could be growing pains and gave her doggy ibuprofen. I kept defending the vets to my family at home while they knew she needed more, so I also carry that guilt. Finally, I had to insist on getting her x-rayed, which took a total of 2 hours and they had to send it off to a surgeon be verified. The X-ray team was prepared to sedate her to get x-rays when the surgeon easily got x-rays in 10 minutes with her. The surgeon had me come in for surgery the very next day after seeing her elbow because they knew it was most likely past correcting. Shattered. Because of time with injury. On a five-scale classing she was a level 5 injury. If we had caught it sooner, it could have been corrected. I'm still unsure of if they were incapable of a proper diagnosis, if the confidence in their X-ray team is that poor, or if they were trying to save me money without asking me if that's even an issue. Baseline is I am now spending thousands of dollars in getting this to a manageable livable point. I am making exceptions for her in my day-to-day life every single day and she will never know a life without pain. I never want anyone else to go through this kind of turmoil.
Negative experience: Have been going here a long time with my exotics and while outcomes have been on all ends of the scale ive never felt prompted to leave a bad review until today. The office is moving and selling off items via Facebook (seems odd but easy tax free way to get $ for old items getting tossed) and listed a print ive always liked from their office. First computer, right wall, hidden unless you're checking out at that desk. Messaged Terri after closing yesterday who had the listing up to visit the clinic and pay cash, first come first serve, 10$. While literally on my way to the clinic she changed the price to more than double original asking. You get a notification when this happens with fb. Asked her if they'd honor the original price I messaged in for and was told no because too many people were messaging about it. Extremely dishonest practice for a vet clinic. If they're fine doing this then I can only imagine how they're fine changing vet service pricing last minute as well. It may seem small but deception and dishonesty dont come with a price tag. If youre willing to do it for one thing you will do it for all things.
Negative experience: I "WAS" a client at this practice for over 30 yrs. They have treated 3 dogs and 4 cats. I stopped by this morning to make an appointment with minor concern with a new cat and I wasn't given the time of day and walked out with a list of other urgent care places in the area. I had called at 7:30am was on hold forever and prompted to leave a message. I did. It's now 11:40am with no return call. That's OK, I don't think I would return even if they did call back.
Fantastic experience: Friendly, gives straightforward answers, efficient, and, all in all, a great vet. I feel safe bringing my cats here.
Fantastic experience: Very nice, efficient, and caring staff. They always treat my first babies like family! It's pretty clean inside, and the treatment rooms are spacious compared to some other vets I've been to.
Fantastic experience: The staff is always great. The techs and the veterinarian are all so gentle with my cats, knowing that my cats definitely don't want to be there. They were able to answer all the questions I had. Made the appointment quick and easy
Negative experience: Have had mixed feelings with the place up until recently which made me swear this place off for good. Before I had a dog and cat go here. The vet acted weirded out that my cat wasn’t happy being poked and prodded by a complete stranger on the first visit asked me multiple times why is he like this and if he’s like that at home (I’m like he’s a cat in a strange place what do you expect). I then had a terrible experience with the office when they couldn’t bother to call me back after they said they would during what I feared was an emergency of my dog having a vaccine reaction within 24hrs of a vaccine. I called gave info/symptoms but the front desk person said the vets were having lunch and wouldn’t come to the phone or offer any advice but that I should get her to be seen probably. I was SPECIFICALLY told to call the day before because the chances of a reaction were higher with the second dose my dog received. They told me they wouldn’t let me bring her in there bc they were busy that day despite them knowing she had just been there and giving me warnings. I asked for a call back but have yet to receive any calls. The lack of care infuriated me and I found a much better location who saw my dog and she is now doing well. I will restate: My pup was suffering and this place just let it happen without seeing her even though they KNEW she had the shot the day before and told me to call and they would help!
Fantastic experience: Dr Piper is amazing! He listened to me about my concerns, offered advice, and got down on the floor to talk to and examine my big, arthritic 13 yr old boy! I like the way he treats my dogs like they are his, and is always thorough with his examination. He explained everything, offered options for pain relief, and we made the best decision for my boy. He is already showing a lot of improvement! You can not only see it in the way he's getting around, but in his eyes! Thank You Dr Piper!
Fantastic experience: Its hard to find a vet that will see our ferrets. Everyone here is super nice and professional. We need more places like this one
Fantastic experience: 5 stars to the best surgical team of Dr. Piper and Josh! I appreciate how well they took care of my cat, and beyond that how Dr. Piper cares enough about animals to not push extensive procedures if it's not in their best interest for quality of life. Kevin and I thank you!
Fantastic experience: Had not such a great experience at another avian vet in Virginia Beach. I decided to call Pet care veterinary hospital to ask some questions and compare pricing. LAURA B was incredibly patient and kind in getting every answer I needed. I will be scheduling an appointment very soon!
Fantastic experience: Being new to the state, new to the area, we needed a quick appointment for one of our pups, Pet Care took us right away & in our 7 months in VA we have never looked back! The office staff from the desk to the Dr.s treat our boys as their own. They treat us all as family, they always follow up with calls afterwards to check the status. Cant say enough good things about these folks.
Negative experience: I have been going here for 40 years and i dont see the Dr.s that i am use to and the new staff has Communication problems they wont listen to you....over charged check up $320 for a healthy dog...i questioned the bill...all I wanted was a rabies and a city license...somehow the techs came in and started taking blood and giving more shots...I said I'm trying to get out of here as cheap as possible....they just kept talking...I walk out 320$ NO..he is a healthy dog...so they take me in a room...drop the price to 120$ and on my way.. I got a notice yesterday from the city saying he wasn't licensed...they were suppose to do that at the "check up"...I called them..the front desk Laurie and Kasia were so rude about telling me they didn't know I wanted it done... I drove up there. More rude and defensive behavior and now another 30 bucks to license the dog with the city..what did the 120$ cover the first time? Rabies shot..but not the license....I'm more confused...can you have the manager call me.... She calls and says I didn't tell her that I wanted a license...I kept repeating the whole time at the establishment "I just want a rabies shot and register the dog with the city".. sigh...she explains she will mail me my medical records for my dog.....I'm curious if I'm the only one that has experienced this there Weird communication or games???I can't believe this was my go to place and now I don't know where to take my dog. So messed up on all kinds of levels...I miss you Dr Fisher.
Fantastic experience: The staff is very sweet from the moment you walk in the door you're welcomed. Doctor Piper is amazing with your fur babies he shows them so much love.
Negative experience: I really don't like making reviews. But the visit and follow up labs did not sit right. For starters, my cat ended up pooping all over herself and her carrying bag. I asked multiple times when I got in to get something to clean her off with, they didn't bother until 10-15 minutes later. While my cat sat miserable with her poop. Finally we get into the backroom where the vet tech spends her time blaming me as a pet parent and making assumptions vs trying to find out why we were there. I will say the veterinarian himself was cool and he explained a lot without biase. I wish I remembered his name because he was the only one that put me at ease this whole situation. The vet and I agreed I will come back with a urine sample to test to make sure everything was okay. Only saying I needed to collect the pee and bring it back. As simple as that. Wrong. HOURS LATER after dropping off the urine sample, I get a call saying they are holding it from the lab until I pay an additional $107 that was never disclosed to me. AT ANY GIVEN POINT! Which made me feel awful because unfortunately I did not have the money. A couple hours later they did call back and said they ran the lab anyways. Luckily my cat is fine. But the fact they were going to hold her health records hostage for $107 did not sit right with me. If you truly care about pets. Please don't corner and price gouge your patients. It's unethical. Especially when their in a vulnerable state.
Fantastic experience: I have to admit that I was introduced to the staff at Pet Care when I adopted a kitty who has dental problems and has been under the care of Pet Care so I knew RoLe would be in good hands. I would 1 million % recommend them to anyone. They care!
Fantastic experience: Always have a great experience coming to the vet! The receptionist are always so sweet and helpful. The techs and doctors are very personable and informative. The hours are SUPER helpful for my schedule! I foresee bringing my baby girl here for a very long time!
Fantastic experience: Losing a beloved pet is a difficult and emotional experience, and I want to thank the staff for thier sensitivity and compassion during the process of euthanizing my dog, Roxy, today. The staff was understanding and supportive, and I truly appreciate the care and respect shown to both me and my pet during this difficult time. I also want to thank the staff and Dr. Piper for explaining the process of euthanasia and answering all of my questions, which helped to ease my anxiety and make the decision a little bit easier. Thier professionalism and empathy made a difficult situation more bearable, and I am grateful for the care and support provided by thier team. Overall, a positive 100 percent experience with thier veterinarian hospital not just with todays situation but with the medical care they have provided my other two dogs. Just recently started using thier services. I would highly recommend their services to other pet owners in need of compassionate medical care for their furry companions. Thank you for your kindness and understanding during a challenging time today. You guys rock.
Negative experience: I do not recommend this veterinary hospital. This was my first time taking my dog to a vet. My husband passed away recently and he never was able to do so so I decided to take our dog along with my son to get her rabies shot. Initially the staff was kind and polite. However things began to go downhill after returning the dog back to us after administering the rabies shot. The doctor did not return with the assistant to go over the physical exam results. I was told by the assistant they were not able to do a full exam except for listen to her heart beat and give the shot. The assistant left the room to go get the doctor because she thought she was going to be right behind her to talk to me. My son and I were left waiting in the room for about 20 minutes or more, afterwards I inquired at the front desk if anyone was coming back or were we free to go. She proceeded to check for us. Meanwhile we could here that the doctor and assistant had gone on to assist another customer without returning to us! The reception came back and said she would check me out even though the doctor or assistant had not returned to finalize our visit! I protested about the poor customer service shown my son and I so instead of the doctor or assistant respectfully coming back to close out our visit, they sent in a completely different technician to go over our physical exam results and what to expect with the vaccine that was given to our dog. Meanwhile the whole time we could hear them speaking with their other client that came in after us. I do not recommend this veterinary hospital, they did not seem to care about us as customers or our dog for that matter. A very poor customer service experience by the doctor and assistant!
Fantastic experience: We took our young bearded dragon in to establish care. The veterinarian and tech answered our questions and handled him with ease. They provided us with additional learning resources when we inquired about good sources for information as well. I'd definitely recommend them.
Fantastic experience: I’ve taking Jupiter for 3 years… the doctors and personal are amazing… Thanks for taking care of my Perrito!!!
Fantastic experience: New pet, new veterinarian. Visit was fantastic. My rescue was put at ease by the staff, and that in turn put me at ease. They went through everything with me and I can say I was impressed. We have found our new veterinarian on our first look. Thank you.
Fantastic experience: Pet Care has a wonderful staff that was very friendly and assisted me with any need or concern I had. I highly recommend them if you are searching for a new vet with adequate prices. Thank you!
Fantastic experience: After having a horrible experience with an emergency vet & regular vet, a friend of mine recommended Pet Care. My dog Zeus was very sick & no one could tell me what was wrong with him. I called Pet Care at 8:30am & by 10:30am I was in. I was a mess & hadn’t slept in 2 days & stressed out. As soon as I walked in I was greeted with the warmest welcome. Dr. Hulls & Laura talked to me & not at me. The stress & anxiety I was feeling left me. I had to bring Zeus in for 3 treatments & every time I felt their compassion for what I was going through. On Zeus’s last day of treatment again Dr. Hulls talked to me & not at me. What a wonderful wonderful man. No words could ever describe how thankful I am for him. Ashley is also the coolest she was very patient with me when paying. I will recommend Pet Care to everyone who I know that has pets!!! Thank you! Thank you! Zeus also sends his heartfelt thanks!!!
Fantastic experience: We love Pet Care for our exotic pets! They are so knowledgeable about bunnies and guinea pigs as well as cats and dogs. All of the staff from check in to check out are kind, welcoming and excited to see all the patients! I always recommend Per Care for anyone who has an exotic or otherwise!
Fantastic experience: This experience was fabulous! The nurses and doctor made sure my cat was comfortable. They took the time to hear our concerns and made sure to answer all of our questions. They provided us with handouts and other resources on how to handle the problem. Would highly recommend!
Positive experience: Extremely kind, caring & compassionate people! I do wish they used more holistic assessments of our pets & integrated natural medicine & better understood benefits of raw diets, etc. but their bedside manner & empathy can't be beat. They love your beloved pets as if they were their own and us owners feel valued! Love you all at Pet Care Veterinary Hospital!!!
Negative experience: Hidden fees... I just took my cat to this place and now need medical attention for myself after they took my arm and leg for a nail trim. They charged me or better wording is robbed me for $70 to cut my cat nails. That's the only service I booked he was already a patient there and yet they informed me of hidden fees afterwards. I was charged $40 extra dollars for the tech AFTERWARDS. This is outrageous and should be illegal. I'm so hurt by knowing they are really taking advantage of pet owners. This was a complete money grab and injustice. Ask questions about pricing for everything! They will not inform you important information to give you the option to go elsewhere. $70 for a nail trim is a crime. I don't have Bill Gates money.... I've been bamboozled. In addition, after the receptionist told me $70 and I asked why so expensive what did I get? I originally thought she confused my pet with someone else, she said you should've went to a groomers instead. Welp I wish you would've warned me that over the phone that there are hidden charges. It's hard to find cat groomers even tho they said my cat was so good many places don't groom cats so I thought I was safe bringing him here since he been here before.... Thought wrong. Per google A nail trim is usually one of the least expensive cat grooming services on the "spa" menu. Paying a groomer to clip your cat's nails will cost you an average of $10-$15. Even if they charged me double of $15 dollars it's nowhere NEAR $70!!!!!! ***Response to owner: Hello Tosha your response has nothing to do with hidden fees and overcharging customers for a nail trim of $70. The last time I was there I got my cat nails trim and on camera and he was wonderful and I didn't pay $70 for that nail trim. This new thing of stealing money from customers is absurd in abuse to pet owners. Not to mention this time the tech stated she kept my cat longer because she wanted to love on him longer because he is a such a sweet boy. Therefore, whatever your saying doesn't justify the insanity of $70 for just a nail trim. This time y'all requested I stay in the waiting room so y'all can take my pet and make up crazy charges. The last time I was there I stayed with my pet while he got his nails cut on camera and it took a few seconds. So now you want to insinuate with false accusations that my cat is not easy? when that's a bogus lie to cover up the fact that you overcharged customers with hidden fees. If you want a fear free environment don't rob people! One minute you come it's one price and another minute you come it's another ridiculous price with a whole bunch of hoopla and injustice to why you want to justify criminal activity. Every time I come there I was always allowed to go with my pet until the last visit. Now I see why...so y'all can make up lies for overcharging. You said cats are notorious for being anxious that has nothing to do with overcharging someone $70 for a nail trim and nothing to do with my cat because my cat behavior is wonderful. Your front desk already told me it's a different fee if my cat was sick but because it's just a nail trim then they overcharged. That's called stealing and selective criminal activity.... Pet owners pay less when the cat is sick and more when a cat is not sick for the same services. Pet owners need to know if you book a service near the date Pet care veterinary hospital rent is due and staffing checks go out you will be overcharged. But if you pick a day when rent is not due you will be charged less they pick and chose when they are going to tack on hidden fees. Surprise!!!!..... Your bill is different from the same service you received last time because we feel like stealing today.
Fantastic experience: I couldn't recommend this place more ! They are so kind. I brought in my dwarf hamster and they took my concerns very serious. It made me feel comfortable knowing she was in great hands and getting the best care (:
Fantastic experience: I've always had good experiences with Pet Care for my cat. She was a feral and they are very good and patient with her. They did a great job when she had bladder stone surgery. It is a good experience from the front desk to the veterinarians.
Fantastic experience: I cannot recommend Pet Care highly enough! The entire team, from the reception staff to the techs, is incredibly warm and proficient, making every visit smooth and reassuring. Special mention must be made of Dr. Piper, whose exceptional expertise and compassionate demeanor stand out. His dedication to Bailey’s health and well-being is evident in every interaction, and it’s clear he goes above and beyond. For truly outstanding veterinary care, Dr. Piper and the staff at Pet Care are your go-to team!
Fantastic experience: The staff at Pet Care Veterinary Hospital are some of the most caring and compassionate people I’ve met. During a tough time of having to take our pet parrot to urgent care, they helped with making it smooth sailing and answering all of our questions with so much detail. They genuinely care about these animals and it is truly amazing to see. Although they are on the other side of the water, it is completely worth it.
Fantastic experience: Our dog has been a patient for 10 years and in that time we've never been disappointed. That includes our most recent urgent visit/follow up. Dr Harrington saw us at the lowest point in our dog's urgent situation and could not have been more kind, caring, and forthright in her diagnosis. Her guidance and treatment brought our dog back from a point where we thought we might have to make a difficult decision. A week later Dr Hulls saw us for a follow up and again we felt nothing but kindness and consideration throughout our visit. Our dog recovered to be in the "best" health he could be for being 11, and Dr Hulls provided a long term plan for monitoring and care for our dog. We cannot express enough just how wonderful the entire staff is and cannot thank them enough!!
Fantastic experience: Love this vet! Always have a friendly staff, quick visits and great costs. I have never felt they were trying to take advantage or make a quick buck either! They care for exotic pets as well! I have been to many different vets in city and none of them compare to Pet Care!
Fantastic experience: I have been a customer of Pet Care with 4 different dogs for over 37 years. Dr Fisher is a kind and loving man with exceptional skills and a unique ability to hire the best people. I would never go to another vet and I trust the health and guidance they give me. They really care about our babies. Happy retirement Dr. Fisher. You will be missed but your legacy will continue.
Fantastic experience: I can't say enough good things about Pet Care Veterinary Hospital. My energetic, over protective (aggressive) boxer was turned down services from a different veterinarian. I was at my wits end and didn't know what to do. From our very first visit to Pet Care Veterinary Hospital the entire staff embraced him and welcomed him with open arms. They made vet visits less stressful for me and more comfortable for him. (I probably owe them a few jars of peanut butter for this.) When my fur baby was 10 he started suffering from seizures and we learned he had cancer. Pet Care Veterinary Hospital did an amazing job of explaining all of the possible treatments and outcomes. When it was time to stop his suffering, Pet Care Veterinary Hospital staff was extremely professional, and empathetic through the entire process. I will recommend them to anyone who asks for pet care. They go above and beyond for pets and their families. ❤️
Fantastic experience: Pet Care Veterinary Hospital is one of the most caring companies I encountered in Virginia Beach. Because of the fact that I brought in a stray cat with an injured eye and I told them this is sudden and tight on cash, they took the time to sort out an organization that can cover most of the charges, Billy The Kitten. And, thanks to them, my stray cat was able to get the treatment it needed. I was so impressed by the patience and the kindness of the staff members that took care of their little patient; especially, after multiple visits. Since the cat had the habit of soiling itself on each visit, they took the time to clean the carriage carrier and the little furball. They even provided me with another carriage that is much bigger for my cat! Wonderful service! Wonderful people and a wonderful affiliation with Billy The Kitten who also deserves a well thanks! Overall, a great experience!
Fantastic experience: Pet Care has been taking care of my brood of various dogs and cats for a number of years. The docs and vet staff are extremely knowledgeable, skilled and professional. But beyond that, they are caring. It is evident how much all the staff love animals. I love that one of the receptionists brings her little pup to work with her. The front desk staff always greet you when you walk in. Yes, sometimes we have to wait - especially later in the day, but I know the wait may be due to helping an emergency - and yes, there are times we've been that emergency. They helped guide us in the sometimes difficult decisions all pet families must make. Bottom line: excellent care; excellent caring :)
Fantastic experience: Thank you to all the Doctor's and Staff for all your sacrifices, strength and dedication in keeping our animals healthy and safe. Our dogs Loki, Kacey, and Thor love coming in for visits. You all welcome, calm, and love them as if they're your own, this means the world to us.
Fantastic experience: We love Dr. Piper and this practice. They are friendly, helpful, and highly knowledgeable. I recommend this practice to anyone. We have been coming here since we moved back to the area in 2022. Examples of why they are awesome - I’m on a medication that is highly toxic to dogs. Dr. Piper helped me develop an action plan for what to do if my dog somehow gets into my medication. - Dr. Piper addresses all of our questions at each visit and never pushes for anything that’s not super important but absolutely gets us anything we need/want. He doesn’t make us feel guilty if we mess something up but helps us figure out how to do better. - Staff are friendly and helpful - It’s easy to reach the office with questions I only just recently noticed that back in the early 2010s, I wrote a negative review. We had just moved to the area and my dog got fleas despite being on a topical medication. These guys very graciously agreed to get me some oral flea and tick preventative to help him out until we could get established somewhere. The front desk staff accidentally dispensed the wrong dose (outer envelope didn’t match the blister pack inside). I caught it and it was a bit of a hassle to get it swapped for the correct dose. I was young and broke and scared about my dog and I was probably not very nice about it but they still took care of me. I came across my own review today and had to fix it. We love Dr. Piper and Pet Care VB!
Fantastic experience: Key points of 5 star review: affordable options even for emergency care, reliable, kind, supportive and informative staff. This place has been fantastic to me and my dog bean! I have called them and had a load of questions almost every day about my dogs bilateral acl tear or the medication and they always have a tech either ready to answer or call me back immediately after. During my emergency visit last Wednesday I was emotional and stressing about finances (I gave them a working budget with about 30$ wiggle room) and with medication included it was under my budget which was lovely for an emergency visit. The staff is incredibly informative, supportive and friendly. They honestly do care about the animals in their care. This is definitely the best place for a pet to go in Virginia Beach/norfolk area. *TO THE TEAM* thank you so incredibly much for spending so much of your time answering my almost daily calls and being so kind to me. It means more than you will ever know.
Fantastic experience: The best vet clinic in Virginia Beach! The entire staff is absolutely wonderful! We've had them see all of our dogs and even treated our bearded dragon in the past! I truly love that they're fear free and when you have a difficult/scared pet, they are very patient and loving. The staff is very attentive, quick to respond to questions and always thoroughly explains what they'll do and why! I have never had a bad experience there. Thank you for everything all of you do.
Fantastic experience: I am blown away by the care that everyone shows from the moment you walk in all the way around to when you check out! They are so genuine and make you and your pet feel loved and welcomed! Any pet needs that we require, we will definitely be coming here!
Fantastic experience: I've seen multiple doctors at this location and I'm very happy with my experiences with all of them. Ryder is a nervous old girl and I appreciate that I can bring her somewhere I know they will be gentle with her. They have also now seen both of my cats. The doctors, receptionists, assistants, and technicians have all been very kind.
Fantastic experience: The empathy and overall patience I experienced here was like no other vet. I feel welcomed as I walk in the door, the staff are like friends and family, everyone is so nice and caring. It really helps to know there are caring vets that will get the job done all while comforting you and treating your animal like their very own with so much care. Thank you Pet Care for taking much of the stress away from us pet owners!
Negative experience: Worst day of Poseidon's life. Absolutely not a place for big dogs - or humans with rodent allergies. First of all, the exam room was covered in feathers, hair, fur, and drool with mushy treat residue in it (we wiped up the floor ourselves). After a few minutes in this dirty room, one of Poseidon's humans almost had an allergy attack (couldn't breath). After being placed in the room we were told that they might not be able to do the X-rays because they were closing in an hour (big red flag - rush rush rush to get out on time). They opted to do the X-rays after all, but the vet and vet techs were clearly terrified of big dogs, because after Poseidon was a little squirmy in the exam room, they insisted on doing both the exam and X-rays in the X-ray room. After walking pup to the X-ray room, we had to hand over the leash and were told to wait outside. When asked, we consented to both mild sedation and the use of a muzzle because we wanted the clinical staff to feel more comfortable handling him - the vet Kelsey Parker had said pup was exhibiting signs of displacement (in other words, she thought he might bite someone). After a minute or two of waiting in another room, Poseidon's humans had a bad feeling and some questions. When they went back and looked in the x-ray room's door-window, they could hear their pup crying-out and to their horror, he was muzzled and tethered in the corner, thrashing around and crying at the top of his lungs, pleading for rescue or comfort. Mind you, Poseidon was having X-rays for a posterior leg injury - thrashing around violently in such a manner could have severely worsened his injury. The clinical personnel in the X-ray room were casually on computers and phone while our baby cried out in terror. He couldn't even turn around to look at them because he was tethered in such a way that he was forced to look in the corner. He was treated like a rabid, dangerous, undomesticated beast. Our dog has never in his life been treated with such callousness and lack of empathy. They had injected him with sedative and left him in the corner to wait for him to keel over before they would come near him to do the exam. We are disgusted. The lack of compassion and hard-heartedness displayed is disgusting. We deeply regret entrusting these humans with our dog, who is now traumatized and will never step back in that building again. Also, the interdigital space proximal to R/L dewclaw is macerated and bloodied due to pup frantically trying to remove his muzzle. If you have a big softy who happens to have big teeth, stay away!! He or she is likely to be treated like a bloodthirsty villain.
Fantastic experience: We just finished treatment for our boy Simba and I cannot rave enough about two technicians we worked with, Janice and Kory! They were amazing & showed our boy so much love and attention throughout the two different phases ! Their compassion for not only him, but us was astounding! Even though it was a scary experience for him, Simba adored Kory and gave her lots of love every time he’d see her ! They both really explained each step of different phases of heart worm treatment to us & while the process was long and expensive (in general, it’s just an costly treatment, this vet clinic is not in any way excessively priced compared to others) the care was worth it!!! Also, Dr. Piper was phenomenal! He made sure to call us with updates, give a clear and concise recap on Simba’s progress and prepared us for next steps along the way! I couldn’t say thank you enough to these three for making this experience smooth for us! Our boy is resting comfortably at home & on the mend from those pesky heart worms! *Side note, when we had to bring his sister, Zoey in to pick him up, she was given lots of love and attention from Kory as well as the ladies at the front desk, (I only got one of their names, Kasia & her pup Leo!) but thanks for spoiling her with pets and treats while we waited! Also, her appointments there have always been a phenomenal experience!*
Fantastic experience: They always take great care of my fur baby. We never wait long for an appointment and are seen on time. The staff is very friendly and understanding of your concerns and will accommodate your pet (mine must be muzzled and kept away from other animals) so that they can receive the best care.
Negative experience: Honestly so disappointed in this place, my wife took my dog in to get her a checkup and a lump checked out. They did blood work and cytology on her. Once they had the lab results, they IMMEDIATELY started talking about cancer, as my wife was obviously upset she asked them if it was cancer or not. Of course as a worried puppy parent she was hoping for a straightforward response and possible options to continue with. Instead they wouldnt tell her definitively if she had cancer or not and insisted that whatever it was it couldnt be fully removed. They told her we would have to pay 2000 just to remove a majority of it.They were short and barely explained anything. On top of everything we tried calling them to get a definite answer to whether she has cancer or not and they told us the physician would call us back shortly, we waited for almost 2 hours just for us to call them again and have them tell us that she isn't even there and won't return our call today!!!!
Fantastic experience: Staff was kind and thorough with my sweet Emma. The doctor explained what she was doing and why before continuing with more services beyond the initial exam which I always appreciate as things can add up at the vet! And lastly I feel the prices at pet care come out reasonable for the services rendered which I appreciate. Love bringing my fur babies to a reliable vet!
Fantastic experience: They have a wonderful staff, great appointment availability, their clinic is practically spotless, and they're very organized.
Fantastic experience: Pet Care Veterinary Hospital is an amazing place to bring your furry family members. The entire staff there is kind and compassionate. They ensure all your questions are answered while making sure that your pet is well looked after. There's no other place we'll go to for veterinary care.
Negative experience: I have been a loyal client of this veterinary clinic for two decades. Recently, there has been a change in ownership, with Halsey and Peter Fisher relinquishing control to the bank. It appears that the clinic's primary focus has shifted towards financial gain, as they demand a fee of $995 upfront solely for the purpose of diagnosing my dog's diarrhea, even without examining the animal. It is truly disheartening to experience a sense of indifference right from the initial interaction, especially when your beloved pet is unwell. While I understand the necessity for businesses to generate revenue, it would be more reassuring to engage with individuals who demonstrate genuine care and concern. I am willing to pay for the services provided, but it would be preferable to collaborate with professionals who prioritize compassion over monetary gain. Regrettably, I find it disconcerting that I am asked to "sign here" without prior knowledge of the eventual cost, which ranges between $1000 and $1300.
Fantastic experience: This vet office is really a top notch organization. They operate with kindness and compassion. They treat your animals like they are their own pets. My dog is very fearful and they are so patient and kind to him!
Positive experience: We have been to the vet here 2 times now. The first time was to establish care and address a few possible concerns. The FO and tech staff was pretty friendly, my only complaint was the vet we saw that day was not unfriendly but also not super welcoming. I feel like she addressed our concerns fairly well but I don't feel like she really did a full check-up like I would have expected upon first meeting a dog. Hands on was very minimal. It was mostly just her talking to us. That's the reason for the 4 stars instead of 5. Our second visit was great. Our dog was attacked by another dog on Easter and no emergency vets were open. They got her in 1st thing Monday morning and did a thorough check over and were kind, caring and did there best to give our baby the best care while keeping the cost as low as possible. We saw a different vet that day and she was much more personable and friendly. Overall this office was highly recommended to us and we will keep coming back.
Fantastic experience: Dr Piper and his staff are the best of the best! They managed to overcome enormous bureaucratic obstacles to prepare our two cats for travel to Montserrat. I don't know how they did it! Their care and professionalism saved the day. These are truly wonderful, kind, caring people.
Fantastic experience: I had to bring my bulldog mix named cinnamon for.possible foreign object removal. Did x-rays and didn't find anything. The staff I feel went above ad beyond on trying to get her in when I was able to bring her as an urgent care. They listened to my concerns and respected the not allowing to lick in the face and her dog selectiveness. They were very understanding of me trying to get help with the vet bill. She is a rescue that I've had for bout 5 months. They also discovered she had a heart murmur that I was not aware of. This will be were I bring my dogs from now on. Thank u again for all that u guys did working with me and cinnamon care
Positive experience: Really good vet office. Customer service is good (in person and over the phone). Parking lot is small, prices are fair and always clean (looks clean and smells clean). Vets are patient, caring and experienced...really so are the techs and office staff. Honestly the parking is the only complaint I've ever had. They even see feral cats.
Fantastic experience: Amazing response from Petcare on tending to our cutdoor country cat in back bay. He had gotten into fight and needed to be fixed. They took him(KitKat) in immediately. Fixed his plum sized hole in his cheek and neutered him that same day. They did a wonderful job tending his wounds and neutered chipped tattooed and tip ear snip and he was ready in 1 hour. Thank you for your heartfelt and immediate care for KitKat. Day 3.5 and he still has his cone on.
Fantastic experience: They have always been so nice, patient and helpful. My hedgehogs and my conure bird have their check ups here. A year ago they helped one of my hedgehogs to fully recover from a bad sickness. Thank you! Recently one of my other hedgehogs wasn’t that lucky. She got pretty sick. They told me I had to make the hard decision to put her down. They made sure I took my time to think and love on my pet. I’m still crying and missing my baby. But the comfort I got from the staff was really important. Today we got a letter from the staff. Everyone signed it. It means the world to me and my daughter! We both are in tears right now. Thank you Pet Care Veterinary for everything you do! You make this world a better one!
Negative experience: We took our cat here for an urgent care visit. It was an overall less than desirable experience. We had to leave our cat there for 5 hours to be examined and then picked her up. It cost us $212 to have her examined and given a few prescriptions. At no point did we speak to a vet. When we picked up our cat, a vet tech spoke to me giving us minimal instructions that I had to clarify with my sister who is in vet school. The de-wormer our cat was prescribed could’ve easily been given to us as a topical preventative but instead we had to give her an oral medication mixed into food along with probiotics and we had no idea how to give it to her. We even brought in a fecal sample which they did not use and didn’t even care to obtain a new sample while she was there. They charged for that and essentially just gave us a new tube to obtain another sample ourselves to bring back. They also refused to prescribe de-wormer for our other cat despite me bringing up the concern that if that’s what they thought was going on that this could be contagious for our other cat. Overall, I feel that this was entirely careless, rushed, and impersonal vet care.
Fantastic experience: We have brought our hedgehogs to Pet Care Veterinary for many years and have always been highly satisfied with the care. The atmosphere is calm in the waiting area, and the staff are always pleasant and professional. We have never had problems getting in to the clinic or with wait times, and our hedgehogs have benefited greatly from the compassionate and caring veterinarians, who are knowledgeable and experienced when it comes to treating exotic pets. Examinations are thorough, follow up is excellent, and we very much appreciate the “Fear Free” certification / treatment approach. I recommend Pet Care to anyone looking for a high quality veterinary practice for their fur (or quill) babies.
Fantastic experience: I was told to come here by the VB SPCA for my gerbil. The Vet, vet techs, and assistants were amazing. They showed me the health problems and explained throughly about the findings. They let me in the back to see the issues and be there to say goodbye. The paw prints and wrapping him up was so nicely done too. Pricing was reasonable. I would highly reccomend for any small pet needs. My only negative, were the two receptionists when I was there. Note, this was my first here. Hearing the comments and judging of clients was very disheartening and unprofessional. Overall, i would come back just for the vet and her team. A huge thank you to Josh for the easy intake and help through the appointment.
Negative experience: Wow, I have taken ALL of my pets here, I even had Dr. Fisher hospice my Goldie. I've always felt cared for and my pets loved. However, lately the people who answer the phones have gotten rude and today I called and asked to be put on the cancellation list and the woman got an attitude said she would put us on a list but NEVER got my information. I also had a Goldie fixed after Dr. Fisher retired and she is still actively in heat due to the surgeon missing some tissue meaning the spay didn't take. This is so sad, I thought I would take all of my dogs here, but I am definitely not happy with the changes, I feel like a number now, not like the family I felt before.
Fantastic experience: We've been using them for a while now; we started because they are one of the few exotic (guinea pig) vets around, and now we take all of our animals there. We recently had a cat get very sick, very quickly, and they were WONDERFUL about the whole thing, despite not being able to save our cat. They even sent us a handwritten card after the fact, with a personal message, and had many of the staff sign it. That just solidified that we made the right choice in Veterinarian.
