Fantastic experience: I’ve been taking my dog Rosie to Bay Beach since I got her a couple years ago she was diagnosed with cancer in December and throughout the process Dr. Knapp and the staff have been very communicative and informational, providing me whatever I can give my dog to help her out. On Friday 13th I took her in for a check up, but she had gotten a little too bad and we had to put her down. It was unexpected, but through the process, the staff were very nurturing and caring to the situation, allowing me and my girlfriend time with our dog before everything started we did not feel rushed. The process was thoroughly explained. We were even allowed in the room while it happened. We were given a bell to ring when we were ready so that we would be alone in the room and were even able to pay beforehand so that we do not have to wait in the lobby. The reception was incredible at all times, Gabby and Kevin, always willing to try to make times work. Thank you Gabbie especially for the last one. I truly can’t thank you all enough for your help with Rosie. In the future, my pets will always be visiting.

Fantastic experience: I’ve been taking my corgi (who to put in simple terms- is NOT a fan of the vet) to Bay Beach for 3 years now. They have always been amazing with her and so kind to me. All of the staff is great! pricing is reasonable & their app makes it east to schedule an appointment!

Fantastic experience: Awesome job as always... they have put down two of my pets and now my mother in laws cat. They care about not only the pets but there families as well... being super tight on funds they were able to help us this evening and offered to do his paw print and whiskers and nose... we really appreciate you guys and everything you do. Fantastic experience: I went to Bay Beach because I was unhappy with my previous vet. I found this practice to be very responsive and caring. The doctor called me a couple days later to inquire how my cat was doing because she was concerned because he was so scared. She covered his medical condition and made suggestions. We are waiting for a culture to come back to determine treatment. Their fees are very reasonable, unlike my previous vet. Very happy with this vet. It is sometimes difficult to get through because they stay so busy. Best to call early in the morning to make an appointment. Their wait period is very short.

Fantastic experience: Bay Beach, Dr. Williams, and the rest of the staff absolutely blew me away. I was hesitant to come here after reading some not so great reviews on Reddit, but I’m glad I did. I had a great experience as soon as I walked in the doors, the front desk associate was beyond friendly and helpful. The vet tech and Dr. Williams treated my kitty with care and respect. They were very upfront with pricing, did not try to push unnecessary test, and did explain in depth the results of the tests that were done. Words really can’t explain how great my experience was. 10/10 would recommend bringing your furry family here!

Fantastic experience: Overall excellent experience. My cat developed a sudden leg limp. I called to schedule an appointment and was able to be seen the same day. The vet assistant / tech and the vet were kind and thorough. They assessed my cat’s condition, offered options to further assess (x-rays) and fully explained cost of the x-rays. Dr Williams reviewed and explained the test results and offered short term and long term medications to treat my cat’s condition. I and my cats are long time clients of Bay Beach. My pets have always received excellent and kind care.

Negative experience: We have gone to this vet for over Eight years they had to put our two past dogs sleep and we’re very kind. Our most recent experience with them was horrible! They had our blue healer from the moment that we had him until he was 6 1/2 they saw him regularly for those 61/2 years. We first brought him in because we noticed his lymph nodes were swollen. They test him for lymphoma that was negative doctor. Lizette Reed had us repeat the test to weeks later promise it would be at a discounted rate which it was not. After an excruciating week of waiting for the results, I eventually drove to get the test results to the veterinarian clinic In a snowstorm because we couldn’t get her to call my husband back in a timely Manner. Of course they were positive. He lasted about five weeks. The day that we had to put him down my husband called the vet to help us and they couldn’t or wouldn’t - their schedule was full . The receptionist basically told my husband sorry you’re on your own.. we had hoped because they had a relationship with our dog that they would be a little bit more Compassionate- very disappointed will never go there again ever!!!!!!!

On this day they were able to give me an appointment last minute to have a potentially serious fast growing tumor accessed by Dr. Williams. Fantastic experience: Dr Williams and Gabby were great when my senior Jack Russell started having leg weakness and limping. We are working on treatment but they carefully examined Penny and Dr. Williams talked through possible causes. Fantastic experience: My Sam had to be laid to rest after finding lymphoma. This place took the BEST care of my son. From his medication, to his last breath this place did everything they could to help, and also made him as comfortable as possible. It’s been about two months since his passing. And I’ve witnessed a few more dogs pass since. No other place took the extreme care like this. Bay Beach will forever be in my heart. Thank you all so much for everything you do for the community. Fantastic experience: Because I ended up losing my pup, I should write a one-star review. But I didn't lose my pup for lack of these amazing people trying, she was just too sick. My baby was having difficulty breathing and we went to another vet first - big mistake. I wish we had started with these folks. Her issue was so severe and unfortunately she didn't show signs until it was too late. These folks that work here made me, a complete stranger, feel so supported during this difficult time. I cannot say enough good things about them. My baby passed within 24 hours, but they let us visit and be with her as much as possible. They explained everything so that we could understand and process what was happening and they stayed in touch constantly. When our baby passed, we got to spend time with her and the staff was so lovely. If they are this conscientious and caring during times of great duress, I can only imagine how they are when times and concerns are much simpler. Today, less than a week later, I received a sympathy card with a wildflower card to remember our girl Roxie—absolutely amazing care. Thank you Bay Beach for everything.....your support is greatly appreciated.

Fantastic experience: We just moved to the area, and I had to bring my two toddlers with me into this office for an issue with my German Shepherd. I should have come sooner, but the move and my kids have had to come first, and the vet visit had to be placed on the back burner until I could manage it. I was so amazed by the staff here! Almost every other time I have gone to a vet for any reason, there has been the impression that pets should be the highest priority in life and anything less than 1000% wasn’t good enough. Needless to say, I was bracing myself for adding vet shame to the general overwhelm of current life. I ended up being SO encouraged by Dr.Seymour and her tech! They were so gracious and understanding, while showing great attention to my dog and making sure I had everything I needed. Very thankful for a wonderful vet experience!

Fantastic experience: My dog is not very friendly when it comes to the vet. They worked with me on this. They also came up with a few different options to help with the cost of his treatment. All of the staff were wonderful.

Negative experience: Called to get some pricing for services my dog needed. Front desk wouldn't give me any information outside of the $80 exam fee. Never experienced a Vet with secretive pricing. Ended up going to another Vet with a similar exam fee that actually gave me pricing information before hand.

Negative experience: Services were ok. We were the first people there at 6:45am and had to wait in the exam room for 4 hours before we were seen! The bill was super outrageous! It was over $5000 for about 3 days hospital stay and care! We took her to a vet on the eastern shore because the dog was still sick. That vet charged $400 for a 2 day hospital stay with IV fluids! Dog is well now. Would not recommend bay beach unless you are super rich! Thanks

Negative experience: My dog was admitted and stayed for a total of 37 hours and released. The total visit was just over $4,250, during his stay we called the office and were told by three different shifts that a VET would be reaching out shortly with an update on your pet at the least you may get a text depending on time of day. My dog possibly ate something not sure as he couldn’t hold anything. I say possibly as I have yet to talk to a VET. For the one receptionist if you are annoyed with people calling about their animals you may want to look for another career path. Terrible bedside manners and lack of oversight on Patient updates. I feel terrible for others that were/are waiting. If they kick the can long enough your dog can stay another day for about $115 an hour.

Fantastic experience: I can't say enough incredible things about this facility and, more importantly, the team here. Lena is THE BEST - she is so kind, patient with my questions, knowledgable, and a great communicator. The care my dog has received ranges from dental cleaning to routine check ups/vaccines. They really worked with us to figure out a (false) positive heart worm situation. They went above and beyond to get things sorted out with the drug company for the preventatives that she was on and sought out additional testing to get to the bottom of it (and it took a while). I am so pleased with and thankful for the care my dog has received at Bay Beach Vet!

Fantastic experience: The first encounter we had with Bay Beach Vet Hospital was with our first dog (our baby) Kisses. His health had declined quickly and the former vet told us all would be fine. We made the decision to rush him in to a different vet when he took a bad turn, and we finally found a place that LISTENED to us. We were told the truth and what the best option for him was. He passed away the next morning, so we called back asking if we could donate the special food we had been given. The same crew was on duty and had us bring it back for a refund. The front clerk hugged me tight and let me cry. We have since adopted two rescues and will not take them anywhere but Bay Beach. We get amazing customer service every single visit! The staff is beyond amazing :)

Negative experience: We have been bringing my cat (the one in my picture) here for almost 10 years, and in her recent yearly checkups we've always brought up her coughing, issues keeping food down (and by extension her low weight) and it was always brushed off with "if it gets worse bring her back". Lo and behold, when one of the vets finally (after 3+ years of coughing!!!) suggests we get xrays (which we weren't even allowed to see ourselves because the vet wouldn't see us) and three days later we get a call (again, this should have been done the day of the xrays IN PERSON) and find out that my cat that I have had since I was 7 has lung cancer, with barely any time left to live. I would like to reiterate: she had been having frequent coughing fits for OVER 3 YEARS, which is absolutely not normal in cats, and the vets who saw her just... Never suggested looking deeper into it? Not enough negligence? How about the mass that the vet felt on her pouch during her most recent visit? Just pointed it out and moved on, didn't touch on it any more than that. And what frustrates me the most is the vet said that she was perfectly healthy less than a year ago, and now she's on death's door. Perfectly healthy yet having horrid coughing fits? I beg your pardon? I will not name names, nor press into this any further than venting my feelings into this text, because I know nothing will change our current situation, but I just can't help but wonder if my cat would have had a few more years had they taken her symptoms more seriously. To those reading this, please, if something sounds concerning, it probably is. Do not let a vet skirt around issues or brush them off, because it could cost your pet's life.

Fantastic experience: The doctors & staff are truly professional, courteous, and very helpful. My dog threw up while waiting for the vet. I asked for some paper towels from the staff so I can clean my dog's mess. But instead, one of them did it for me and cleaned up the mess. That's taking care of clients... dog and human. And for the vet, they personally called to give us the results of the lab report.

Negative experience: Starting off by saying I am in the military. Am supposed to be going overseas and I have two cats so I was hoping I could bring them with me. Import regulations state that they cannot enter the country if it’s been less than 180 days from blood draw for Rabies. The waiting period would have been no problem. Except both my babies got their blood drawn, and the sample couldn’t even be sent, it was thrown away. They told me they don’t have health records for my kitties, except they literally do from the first appointment to establish care. Records were sent over from my previous duty station which contains first rabies vaccine and microchip implant. They also tell me they are confused by the vet note, and the vet who I originally saw isn’t there so nobody can sign off on the blood being sent out. They offered to reschedule, but the military isn’t flexible like that. I would not be past the 180 day window at this point, which I was already pushing back due to not getting their blood drawn at their first visit. Honestly this should’ve been a red flag before, a vet who can endorse international certificates should be familiar with requirements and procedures, not tell the client that they need to research and then come back. I was also originally told that it would be no problem as a tech appointment, but that was obviously a lie. Now I am unable to take my kitties with me so they will have to remain in the US without me. I’m pretty pissed off about this. Also, not sure what happened in the back when they drew blood, but once I got home I go to trim nails and my cat starts hissing and scratching and being aggressive and he is NEVER aggressive with me. Now this makes me question how they are handling my babies. Why is my cat suddenly freaking out when I hold him? I hold him all the time! Don’t plan on coming back here anymore.

Negative experience: This place had me wait 4 hours and still didn't see my cat. They pushed him for more severe cases. When I confronted them, they said I would be next. I asked where my cat was and they said in the back (so he could have atleast spent the 4 hours with me, than alone). Then once they finally took him, they said he had a blockage in his intestines and wanted to preform surgery. Needless to say I took my cat to another vet where they gave him an enema within 30 minutes and he was just fine.... Worst vet on the planet.

Negative experience: We took our dog to Bay Beach after she stopped walking and eating for about 4 days. We had spent the previous night at Vest and had seen no improvements, in fact she had declined even more. Bay Beach was very busy that night and they still made time to see us, which we are thankful for. Most of the staff were nice and professional and the place was clean and had refreshments. We didn’t experience a long wait time, even for a place that was at max capacity. The doctor told us that our dog had severe arthritis and lung tumors, which was more than we got the previous night at Vest. She showed us the X-rays and even gave us an education and comparison of normal hips vs our dog’s. Her knowledge was impressive and even with all of the hustle and bustle I appreciate that she took that time. My main issues lie with what happened after. Like the night before, our dog had gotten so anxious that she was able to ambulate so the severity of our concerns were dismissed. Our dog literally could not even get out of bed on her own or sit up properly for four days prior and we had to carry her up and down the stairs and from the door to her bed. I cannot adequately express how bad it was and how stark of a change it was compared to not even a week prior when she was running and playing and jumping around with my brother’s dogs. We knew that when we got to the car she would lay down and not stand back up, no matter if she was standing in the exam room. My husband and I knew that dog better than anyone else in that situation and when we tried to discuss her quality of life we were instantly dismissed. We were told that we needed to try an arthritis protocol, including laser therapy and acupuncture, as if two emergency vet visits weren’t going to wipe our savings and oh we can just finance the cost of her care as if taking on high interest credit is a decision that can be made that easily for a couple that already goes to a low income vet. They told us that even with all of that the best she could do was maybe walk herself to her food bowl, which I guess was an improvement because at the time she was eating a single kibble that I was forcing into her mouth and spooning water into her mouth. We felt really judged by the vet because we really pushed hard for a discussion of euthanasia. We were told that it wasn’t bad enough for that and that there are dogs worse off who aren’t put down, as if this was something we wanted just for fun. Before leaving someone else came in to go over the medicine and when we mentioned adding cheese or toppers to her food the lady gave us a horrible look and said “well maybe not that.” Please keep in mind that I had tried to give my dog chicken, rice, and pumpkin and she would not eat. I would have given her a cheeseburger if it got her to eat and I don’t think it was right of her to act like we were insane for giving an elderly dying dog cheese. Four days later, after even more degeneration of her legs, we asked our regular vet to squeeze us in and they agreed. At this point our dog had stopped being able to pee or defecate completely and our vet said that she was unable to use the muscle to eliminate waste. Her spleen had holes in it, a sign of lymphoma and the lack of walking was because of a slipped disk (unlikely) or mass on her spine, not the arthritis. The Bay Beach records said that her spleen was fine, which is so confusing to me because our vet did a 20 second ultrasound and saw it immediately. Overall, I understand that any job in the veterinary field is probably an overwhelming, busy, and underpaid profession. I do think that Bay Beach cares about providing quality care and did their best. However, our dog suffered for 4 more days because we were not allowed to discuss end-of-life options. The vet would not even entertain it and would not listen when I said that the change in behavior was so drastic I knew something else was going on. We had to put our dog down on the advice of her primary vet and I can’t stop thinking about how much she suffered because we were not listened to.

Fantastic experience: I had a great experience with this clinic. I just moved to the area and needed to establish care for my dog, and the good reviews for this clinic did not disappoint. Everyone here was very kind; the people working to the desk were awesome, and the techs and doctor were all wonderful. I’ve been to a few different vets with my pet and this one was by far the most affordable, and I felt that the doctor was very knowledgeable and straightforward with me. Negative experience: Updates at end. STAY AWAY FROM THIS PLACE, AND GET A SECOND OPINION FROM SOMEWHERE ELSE! Came here earlier in the year due to drastic weight loss in my cat, which at that point had just started happening a month or so ago, throwing up and stopped eatting a few days before the appt. She was behind on a shot and she growls a lot, very vocal, but she's all talk no bite. They basically said they don't know her and will touch her as minimally as possible. We took the top off the cat carrier and they left her in there while they did everything. They didn't want to give her the updated shot for a reason I can't remember honestly. Maybe because she had temporarily stopped eatting or maybe because of the weight loss. They did do bloodwork and weigh her but that's all they would do if I remember correctly. Basically said everything looks great, she's getting old and cats lose weight as they get old (she's 11) and sent us on our way. Gave us some meds to help her start eatting again and said to come back if she doesn't start eatting. She did start eatting, and we took what the vet said and rolled with it, that she's just getting old. I also want to mention she usually weighs 13 or 14lbs and was 10lbs I believe at this visit. Well we decided this past week to go to a vet we used to use but is a hike now from where we live. Showed them the bloodwork and they said, yea the bloodwork looks great, but something is definitely going on. We weighed her, 7.6lbs. We explained she's late on a shot, but the vet said said she is vaccinated against anything the cat can hurt her with and isn't scared to hold her. She picked her up, held her tight and did a full check up on her but asked us to stay away just incase the cat decided to try and bite anyone. She said she didn't feel anything and explained all the different options of what could be going on, but focusing more on intestinal cancer or ibd, and the next step, we will need to get an ultrasound. (which we will hear back on Monday for the appointment, but should be this coming week). And don't worry, we will be getting her those shots this week as well. "Cancer"... She didn't tell us out to put fear in us, but to be real with us, which we very much appreciate. Especially because we just lost a very close family member to colon cancer not even 2 years ago, and this cat has gotten my fiance through some tough times because of it. So this really hurts to hear. But what makes me upset, is it's something we could have caught earlier on, by months, if this location had taken us and the weight loss seriously. Idk if it works the same in animals as it does humans, if it's caught earlier you can have a fighting chance to beat it. But if so, now there is a greater chance we could lose her. And idk if having caught it a few months ago would have made a difference, but now we may not even get the chance to try. She seems to be declining and lost more weight as I mentioned above, which is why we went to the other vet. I honestly, really regret coming here, and would give anything to go back in time and just taken the drive to our old vets. Edit : update - did the ultrasound, they found extreme inflammation on her small intestines and a mass on her lymph node. Have not done a biopsy, but let's be real, it's likely cancer. And now we are looking at surgery or oral chemo to do what we can to save our girl. Edit: It was cancer. We had emergency surgery today and found a 1/2 cm mass inside her intestines, a mass on her lymph node and 2 masses on the lining around the intestines. All removed. MY CAT HAS A FIGHTING CHANCE NOW because 2 other clinics took us seriously and did everything they could to get us the emergency surgery. There is a good chance she wouldn't have been alive by the end of the year because this extremely careless business didn't want to bother working with her. I will do everything in my power to let people know to steer clear of this place. To care so little is disgusting. I wish I could rate this place into the negative. Edit: She has small cell GI lymphoma.

Fantastic experience: I’ve been taking my fur babies here for over 10 years now and Dr. Key always has the best vets and techs. They are professional and don’t try to squeeze you for every dime like other vets. We will be customers for years to come and are so thankful for everything you all do for our children!

Negative experience: So i just moved to the area, and i brought my dog in for updated vaccination. I made them aware of an issue with her gums that i made a Vet in Tampa aware of, and they had two completely different reactions. The vet in Tampa told me if it wasn't bothering her to not worry too much about it. When i went to Bay Beach, they instantly recommended this procedure be done and even told me my dog is probably in pain just to "stoic" to show me. After inducing anesthesia during this procedure my dog had to be resuscitated, they say there was no fault of their own, and that she just had a very rare reaction from anesthesia but she's fixed and has been under anesthesia before so I don't know if i fully believe them. When they called and told me I could pick up my dog it was 4:00PM and they said I had to be there by 4:45 to get her, thankfully I wasn't doing anything and was close by and was able to get her, but they originally told me when we talked before the procedure that pick up was until 5:30. When I get there they inform me I had a $1300.00 bill which I refused to pay and made them aware that they called because I could pick up my dog and I will be leaving there with my dog whether that bill is paid or not. I go privately to talk with a lady, and her first response is to tell me how "disrespectful" and " rude" I am for not paying the bill. She continually asks me at least three more times why I'm not paying after I had already explained to her and asked her to stop bringing it up,( she mentioned it several times before I had asked her to stop) They cared more about the bill than my dog. When they brought me my dog she offered no words of how long she was out before resuscitated ( i still don't know) no apology for the incident, ( it quite possibly might not be there fault but a little remorse wouldn't hurt) and 0 instruction on what to look for when I bring her home other than "take the bandage off after 2 hours" If I could rate 0 stars I would I'd bring your pet somewhere else

We completely understand your position and concerns about the anesthetic complications that Stella encountered during her procedure. The breakdown in our communication was the direct result of the disrespect and threats made against our staff when you returned to pick Stella up.

Our doctor recommended the dental procedure for Stella, not only for the gingival hyperplasia that you scheduled your appointment for and voiced concern about during your visit, but also because she had severe gingivitis and several diseased teeth that also needed to be addressed.

While anesthetic events are rare, there is always risk involved with any procedure, which you acknowledged that you understood on the consent forms you signed at check in. I am not sure when she was spayed, but she is likely much older now than she was then, and as we age our bodies don't always handle things as well as they once did. I am grateful for and proud of my team that was able to act immediately in Stella's best interest and recover her from this event.

As stated in the separation letter sent to you via mail, we hope that you are able to find another hospital that is able to both care for Stella and meet your needs and expectations.

Negative experience: Terrible experience. Brought my puppy to Bay Beach Veterinary on VA Beach Blvd last month for wellness visit. They were supposed to check her like it says on their site from toes to head. Waited for over 20 min past my appointment time. Doctor didn't even look at my puppy's vulva or belly. Had to bring her next day because I noticed discharge from her vulva and rush on her belly. Had to pay AGAIN for check up. Got antibiotic prescription for 10 days. I thought it was mainly for her discharge. After 10 days discharge continued. Brought my puppy back and was told the antibiotics that has been prescribed were for skin rush. Doctor prescribed another antibiotics for 10 days to help with discharge and took a sample from her valva. It didn't help. After 10 day course of meds I noticed discharge again. Got another puppy few days ago and called them to schedule a visit for both of them. On a phone, I told them that first puppy still having same issue and my second puppy either coughing or sneezing and has discharge from his nose. Went there today for our 2 .15pm appointment. Arrived few minutes earlier. Waited 40 minutes with 2 puppies and after 40 minutes of waiting was asked to wait outside since one of my puppies may have cough. Lady who came up was very rude and unprofessional. My puppy didn't cough once , and again I am not sure if he even coughing at all. And I understand that policy for safety of the other pets. But it didn't bother them for 40 minutes and it was no one inside. I asked how much longer we have to wait outside since we have been waiting for 40 minutes and with 2 puppies it's not easy to do. Lady said she doesn't know how much longer, they don'thave availableroom and doctoris not availableeither, howeveri saw peopleleft from one room and it was emptyfor at least20 minutes. I told her that it's not right and I can not spend whole day waiting. She said very rudely "so you want to cancel?". No. I Don't. I didn't cancel, they canceled on me. How unprofessional! They waisted my time. If I would be late they would charge me, but they don't value my time. And honestly I was thinking to go see different vet anyway since my puppy having same issue and they couldn't do right diagnostic. Do not suggest this vet clinic. Spend over 500 there withing a month and feels like a waste of my money, my time and I hope it will not cost me my puppies health. Going to see different vet for correct diagnostic and medical attention.

Fantastic experience: The staff is so nice. I have visited the emergency location as well as the main location and had great experiences at both. They are very accommodating. Both locations are very clean and well-kept. I love being able to text with staff to schedule appointments or address any questions. I highly recommend By Beach!

Negative experience: It’s been 3/12 years since the horrific experience I had the night I took my dog( Coco) at Bay Beach, Vet., & there isn’t a day that passes by, that I wished I never took him there, as he didn’t come home w/ me that night & he should have…. No “stars”, just total regret & remorse for the horrible things that I saw that night & experienced, which will forever put a hole in my heart.

Negative experience: My Yorkie was 1 when she developed a health scare. The dr. Gave her several test but consulted with another vet before she gave me a diagnosis. She was put on meds and prescription food. The dr. NEVER ran any further blood work. She’s now 4 when I was presented with a major health scare that I feared would end her life. The dr. Was on vacation so I went to an emergency vet who ran several tests to the cost of $4,000!!! The diagnosis was the same!!! The result was a change in her prescription food and was told by a vet tech that she should have been tested periodically to see if everything that was done previously was still effective. The emergency vet made a report to my dr. At Bay Beach who didn’t call to see how she was doing. I told the tech that her professional behavior was not acceptableI changed to, by, several friends to go to Animal Medical Center at Dam Mill (Dr. Amos) where I not only found a medical staff who truly loved their work but their pricing was far better than Bay beach. The original diagnosis and follow-up should warrant a law suit since I was left with a $4,000 vet bill since she Emma’s treatment was far from professional. STAY AWAY from BAY BEACH!!!

Negative experience: used to love this vet but over the years it has changed a lot. there are vets that care about your pets, then there are some places who just care about taking your money. sadly this places seems to now only care about the money. the past few times i’ve gone to them for help it seems like i was reluctantly give any. i’ve since gone to other vets who have treated me and most importantly cared for my pet much better!!!! if you care for your pet and their well being take them to a vet who will care for your pet just as much as you do.

Fantastic experience: I had to use them 5 years ago for my own kitten when they were an emergency facility. As well as recently for my job, the staff were extremely kind and willing to work with us on getting the babies seen. Everyone seemed liked they loved their job. Fantastic experience: Grateful for the services at the ER. I took my dog in to be seen due to respiratory issues, and discovered later that I was going to have to put him down due to a tumor. The staff was very supportive and professional. Really helped me through the process which was so hard. I know he was taken care of the best way possible. I truly support the care the staff shown throughout the entire process and the professional.

Fantastic experience: I had been taking my geriatric cat to another local vet and they kept telling me that she didn't have a UTI but she was urinating all over the house. I was devastated because I thought that it might be time to put her down. I really didn't want to because I kept seeing hints of her being playful and young, but I could not figure out why she continued to get worse with the urination. Thankfully, I decided to try another vet and took her to Dr. Heidi Thompson on Monday, 3/11/2024. I was a total wreck because I knew that this appointment was going to be the deciding factor on if she needed to be put to sleep. As much as I didn't want to do it, I certainly would never want my baby to suffer. I have had her for almost 19 years and she's a family member. Dr. Thompson was very compassionate and understanding. She understood that I was concerned about the quality of her life. She gave her a full examination and then came back to speak with me. She advised that, even though my cat did not have any indication of a UTI in her urine, Dr. Thompson could feel that her bladder walls were very thick. She said that this indicated a chronic UTI and it could have not been showing in her urine because she is passing water through so quickly. Dr. Thompson told me that she understood either way, and she wouldn't pressure me to continue care. This meant a lot to me. Her diagnosis gave me a sudden glimmer of hope. She suggested that she give her an antibiotic injection and that I would know within 24-48 hours if it was helping. I am thrilled to report that approximately 24 hours later, my sweet baby girl was running around the house and playing like a kitten again. She had been seemingly constantly looking around for a spot to pee on but now she seems her relaxed self. I have seen her use the litter box multiple times since Monday and although she might need an enclosed box (she doesn't posture well at her age), I can totally handle that. I knew that there was life left in my girl. I knew that I didn't want to put her down but her quality of life was most important. I am so thankful for Dr. Thompson and all the staff at Bay Beach for truly caring for me and my pet. I wish I would have switched to them years ago. But now both of my cats will be patients there. P.S. The emergency hospital on Nimmo Parkway is also amazing. I had to utilize their services about 2 years ago when my 19-year-old male passed away. They were absolutely the best. They did what they could to try to save him but when they were unable, they gave me a private room in which to say goodbye. They sent me a hand-written sympathy card a couple of days later with all the staff having signed it. They smoothly handled the cremation and the cremation services they used were so thoughtful. They created a hand-carved box with his name that has his ashes, a framed paw print, and a lovely gift bag and card. I've had human family members pass away and not been treated as well.

Fantastic experience: The staff is absolutely amazing! I had a true emergency and I don’t know how I would have gotten through the experience without their genuine compassion. From the moment I walked in to the moment I left, I was treated with kindness and patience. Dr. Dollar is a wonderful person who I can tell is passionate about what she does. Fantastic experience: Great place, great staff. First come first served for an emergency and they do triage but one could only expect to have to wait if someone comes in with an animal who's condition is more emergent. I am just grateful I was able the get my dog seen today after throwing up a rock this morning (was afraid there was more ) Two places that do emergency appointments I called prior were all booked up for the day and it was still just before 0900!

Fantastic experience: If I could give these angels on earth more than 5 stars, I would. We brought our sweet Lilly in yesterday because she was in respiratory distress. They came out to my car to bring her in and worked on her for several hours. They kept us informed of everything as time went on. Unfortunately, Lilly wasn't able to be saved (not for lack of trying on their part). Dr. Dollar was completely amazing. We cannot thank her and the rest of the staff enough for the loving care they not only gave our girl, but us too. Thank you!

Fantastic experience: No one wants to go to the emergency vet, but every dog owner knows it’s going to happen at some point. My mom was visiting from out of town with her pup Ollie. He wasn’t himself and we were worried. Bay Beach was the best. Everyone we came across was so kind and explained everything. Communication was impeccable and we knew that we might have to wait, but it wasn’t bad at all and we left with piece of mind that it wasn’t a potentially serious problem. I’ve had plenty of panicked trips over the years as a dog owner, but if I ever need another ER vet visit, Bay Beach will be my first call. Thanks so much for being awesome to Ollie and to us.

Negative experience: I’m only providing two stars because I feel like the Doctor who saw my dog was actually very helpful and informative. Everyone else, not so much. They charged us a $95 deposit for an exam and x-ray. After this, it was determined that our dog needed an IV fluid treatment bringing the total for our visit to over $1,000. They then told us that we needed to make another deposit for the IV treatment, which ended up not being a deposit at all as we were asked to pay the entire $1,000+ balance upfront. We paid it and left our dog there for the treatment. Before the end of the day, they called us and told us that our dog bit a staff member and made it seem as if he were uncontrollably aggressive. Our pup is not aggressive at all. If anything he’s scared and anxious. He’s in a foreign place, being poked and prodded, and his family is no where in sight. It felt like there was no consideration for his feelings and he was just written off as being a “biter,” which is something he isn’t. We asked what happened and if he was growling and showing signs of aggression and the person on the phone was very short with us and wouldn’t explain. This makes us wonder how he was treated while he was there and we weren’t present. We picked him up at the end of the day and they refunded us $50 for overcharges but couldn’t explain what exactly the charge was attributed to. They told us that if our pup doesn’t show progress over night, to bring him back the next morning for surgery. Our pup did not improve. After discussing things the following morning, they wanted an additional $8,000 to perform the surgery. We told them that we couldn’t afford this amount and they provided us with referrals and told us to give them a call if nothing worked out. We contacted several facilities and all of them had either already hit their cap for the day/week or didn’t have the equipment needed to perform the surgery. We called them back and long story short, we were SOL. They were not willing to work with us on the costs and even recommended euthanasia as a resolution. Their exact words were, “you’re either all in or all out.” There was no compassion or empathy. After much panic and searching, we later went to another facility where we received outstanding service and they performed the surgery, provided post-op food and medication for $1,017.

Fantastic experience: A few days ago our beloved Foxhound, Poppy, became very ill. There is an emergency vet shortage in Hampton Roads so I was very afraid we wouldn't find a doctor. When I called they were so nice and so professional. When we arrived, the doctor was waiting for us outside and carried Poppy inside herself. In very short order we were given the devastating news that Poppy had a large tumor and advanced cancer. She was suffering. We knew what had to be done. Everyone on the staff was so kind and supportive. They lovingly gave her treats and allowed us to stay with her as long as we wanted. It's so emotionally devastating to lose a pet. They are family. At Bay Beach though the experience was carried out lovingly and respectfully. I can't thank them enough for making a horrible time just a little less terrible. We've had to do this before but it wasn't the same... there wasn't the love and sympathy that we were offered by every staff member we encountered. Thank you Bay Beach from our family and our dear Poppy. ❤️

Fantastic experience: I wanted to share my family's experience with the people at this hospital when we brought our dying dog to them to be put to rest. The staff and the doctor were all compassionate, caring, and very accommodating in making sure our needs were being met in taking the upmost care of our sweet Bear. They arranged the necessary steps after Bear's euthanasia which we requested cremation and everything was handled with care and love. ,Thank you for all you did during a difficult time.

Fantastic experience: As sad as I feel right now after saying goodbye to my Ginger tonight. I want to take this time to thank the staff here. Dr Howard hands down is very loving and caring for all the animals she tends to. Even when we don’t want to hear the bad news. My Ginger became ill very quickly and showed no signs of being sick until it was too late. No one ever wants to say goodbye to their fur babies but they all showed such compassion that I will never forget how they made me feel when it was time for me to let Ginger run free over the rainbow bridge. I am sorry if I missed some of the other people here by name who helped my baby be as comfortable as she could be until I was able to be there. I also want to send out a huge thank you to Casey for how gentle she was with Ginger, with me both on the phone and in person. Marissa, Thank you for tolerating the phone calls, going over things with me when my head was all over the place with worry. Fantastic experience: I am so grateful to everyone here at Bay Beach Vet Hospital for taking such good care of my baby girl. I brought my dog in the sickest I’ve ever seen her and was very scared and emotional during our visit. Everyone was kind, incredibly helpful, and took time to explain everything in detail. SO thankful for Jordan, I felt she really went above and beyond to answer all our questions and made me feel comfortable during a pretty scary time.

Negative experience: We arrived at 5:30pm and now it is 12:00Am and are still waiting for our dog to be examined. The workers don’t give you any updates and are very rude and inconsiderate. They turn emergency patients away at the door, and on the phone. They are constantly laughing and talking about people in the waiting room and other patients files. The people in the back with the animals are on their cell phones every time the door opens. I would not recommend this place.

Negative experience: I’ve had all my pets, go there for the last 10 years, and they have always been fantastic. My dog had an emergency yesterday and the emergency vet was busy and the woman that I spoke to you at the Virginia Beach Blvd. location had no empathy nor did she provide any solution. I was finally able to get into another practice, who could not understand why VaBeach couldn’t let me in between a couple appointments. Not only will I not go there again I will bring my fur babies to a place that welcomes them and considers them as much as part of a family as I do.

Fantastic experience: okay so first it is important to note that this kitten is my best friend, if anything ever happened to her i would perish. Bay Beach is not inexpensive, in fact it’s a little bit more expensive than other local vets. HOWEVER.. i can’t just trust my BFF with any joe shmo, especially with a surgical procedure. They are so kind and informative and take such good care of my kitten every time she is there. they have a separate waiting room for cats which is really good because it helps Charlie feel less anxious. overall i totally recommend them but my main feedback would be that they should offer lids for their complimentary coffee

Fantastic experience: Reception is amazingly friendly and attentive, assistants are caring with my babies, technicians are always working so hard, and the doctors explain everything in such detail. Not to mention pharmacy, management, and more being outstanding. I have fractious cats and I could not imagine a better team to handle them. Best place!

Negative experience: On December 5, 2022 I took my Springer Spaniel, Reeder in for x-rays at 8 am having no food or water since the night before because of anesthesia needed for the procedure per Dr. Marie Battles instructions At 1 pm Reeder was still in a cage with no food or water and no idea from the staff as to when his x-rays would begin. At that time I went to Bay Beach and removed him from their lack of care and gave him water and food.

Negative experience: Thank you everyone for reaching out to me about Winnie! She is much better and passed whatever was in the bone! I will say my experience at Bay Beach Veterniary ER was horrible and I will be blasting them on Yelp! When I went there they took Winnie back gave me a credit application and an estimate for surgeries before they even saw her! This put me in a panic attack! I told them I did not want them to pull my credit because I just bought a car and didn’t want a ding to my credit! I offered them what I did have in my pocket and they said we will be right back. Four hours later the Vet tech came back and said what do you want to do? I said what do you mean has the vet seen her or did you run X-rays to see if she needed surgery? The Vet tech said no you need $1500 before the vet will see her. I was horrified and asked what I need to do for home health since they would not see her! The Vet tech came back with Winnie and told me the Vet said if you can’t afford surgeries you should surrender your pet to a rescue! And that she would die over night. I called an emergency vet available at Blue Pearl he asked me to check her gums which were pink.. a few other things and reassured me to go home get rest watch her overnight. At 3:30 am she woke up ate and drank water. Took her for a walk she went to the bathroom and is acting fine! My point is this if patients can be seen at a hospital without insurance or credit a doctor does not deny care! Secondly I feel that experience was a scare tactic for money! And lastly I appreciate my daughter, son in law and Vance Winters for coming up and sitting with me! I am definitely going to check for others on a charity for pets!t

Negative experience: I went to get my dog checked out, they acted like it was a bargaining chip as to what care my dog got. $195 just to talk to the vet, they kept sending an assistant who had no idea what she was talking about. She kept coming back to us with different items they could take off the bill in order to treat my dog, this isn’t a car dealership. I wasn’t allowed to be with my dog during treatment even though it was just a shot and fluids, NEVER have I not been able to be with my dog. I didn’t see or speak to a vet before any treatment of my dog. This was our ONLY option within reasonable time or I would NOT come here! Only come here if it’s an absolute emergency or you want them to take all your money!!!

Fantastic experience: The staff and Vets are so wonderful. Nothing but Total professionalism and tenderness. So grateful for all their help, especially because having to euthanize our sweet Cody was so heart breaking for us. They deserve so much credit in making it the most peaceful passing he could have.

Fantastic experience: I have only the best of things to say about Bay Beach Vet. I have been taking my two ridgebacks (Otis & Abe) there for 10+ yrs. Bay Beach has always been there for us. From routine visits to consults, referrals and urgent care visits, they have never let us down. The staff are kind, loving and patient. The doctors are genuine, empathetic and expertly trained. Recently Abe had an unfortunate untreatable emergency and we had to help him cross peacefully to the other side. One of the most difficult decisions and days of my life. Bay Beach made those moments as best as we could have ever hoped for and I could feel all their love for us. As a medical provider in the ER, I can understand working with people in difficult circumstances and the unprecedented impact COVID has had and still making for healthcare of all kinds. I admire, respect and appreciate all the staff at Bay Beach more than they could know. I recommend their care to anyone whom loves their pet and wants the very best care! ❤️❤️

Fantastic experience: They have been wonderful in taking care of our dog after he got hit by a car. The vets have been straight forward with his care and discussed options with us and giving us the choice of how to proceed instead of pushing for what they think should be done. This gives us the peace of mind that our fur baby is in good hands.

Fantastic experience: Great People and Service. Our puppy got run over and they saw us right away. They were very concerned and professional and did all they could but puppy Sally was crushed beyond repair and we had her youthanized . They handled the situation with the utmost care. Highly recommend!
