MissionVet Specialty & Emergency: Reviews
Positive experience: The team was nice, the bathroom was very clean and there was allot of parking. The down side … it took about 2.5 hours before I was advised what my cats condition was and even though we got there at 2:30pm I wasn’t able to pick him up until around 10:30pm. I don’t go to the vet often but this took around 8 hours and was a little over $800. All in all, not a bad experience.
Fantastic experience: My dog was attacked by a Pit Bull. The people I dealt with provided extremely professional care of my dog and the dogs that came in after her. I also have never been given such an indepth explanation of their billing.
Fantastic experience: We brought our little dog Edith in for a CT scan and sample extraction. It was very efficient and everyone is friendly and compassionate. We were kept informed of the progress and when she was ready to be picked up.
Fantastic experience: I can't say enough about the staff and veterinary team at MissionVet. I took my dog in for an MRI and I was a nervous wreck. They helped calm my nerves, talked me through the entire process, and gave frequent updates after she went back for the imaging. Everyone is SO sweet and understanding. The total cost for everything was more than fair, as I had been quoted about $5000 more at another facility in Austin. The vets are extremely knowledgeable and they were able to diagnose my dog with something that none of the three other vets she's seen had considered or even heard of. I have such a hard time trusting anyone with my dog, but they made it so easy and helped me feel so much better.
Fantastic experience: Our Bentley was reaching the end of his journey. After hoping he'd make a comeback, we had to face the hard truth that he wasn't. The entire staff at Mission were amazing. I wish I had been more focused and noticed names but it was an overwhelming night. It felt as if they held our hands through the entire experience. The sweet kindness they showed us will be something I remember always. Thank you to everyone who helped us that night. We truly appreciate you all.
Negative experience: I went there for a life and death emergency surgery. My dog was there for less than 24 hours and the bill was a staggering $11,000. I wonder how many people have had to put their pets to sleep because they could not afford the outrageous pricing of this vet clinic. They have you over a barrel because they're so a few emergency vets in this city
Fantastic experience: Great doc and is very passionate about helping my dog and took time to explain in detail
Negative experience: Terrible experience. It was emergency. Over the phone they said they could help me, when I got there they collected my $ visit, when I met with the doctor/nurse after waiting 30 min said they could not help us that day. Cero compassion, they are only trying to get your money. They even said yes leave him here and tomorrow we see what’s wrong. The leaving him there overnight estimate $2000 to $3000 dollars and they haven’t even seen the dog yet. Thieves. Do not recommend it.
Fantastic experience: My dachshund was transferred to MissionVet with an IVDD diagnosis. Everyone who met with us was especially patient and very thorough in their answers and all communications. It was the small things that really made a difference, like telling me who would be caring for my dog next so I could expect to speak to them. Thank you to everyone at the front desk, the vet techs, Dr. Marzulo and Dr. Lozano for caring so well for my sweet elderly pup. This whole ordeal was so scary, but they made it as smooth as possible. Thank you, MissionVet!
Negative experience: We took our puppy girl on Friday at noon with a seizure, automatically they requested $1000 deposit. We saw a doctor and she explained the possibilities of another seizure and recommended that our pet stay overnight. An additional $2000 were requested. The next day, we received a call from a third person telling us that she was responsive and alert, that she had eaten and was ready to go home. When we.picked her up, she came out screaming real loud. On the way home, we called the clinic to ask if it was normal, since they didnot tell us about the screaiming before. They told us she had just began screaming before they took her out after bathing her. We asked for sedation and they said they couldn't give her one. Our pet screamed all the time day and night. We talked with several people there, always.someone new that did not necesarily knew anything about our pet. Well, on Sunday, one of them told us that our pet had been kept sedated because of her screaming. Our pet wasn't ready to be discharged. On Monday, we took ou pet to our primary vet and he explained to us that the seizure medication she was prescribed there was one of the weakest medicatiins used on these cases and that he was going to try with a stronger one. Immediately our pet calmed down and managed to sleep. Something that she didn't do for 2 nigjts. At the end of the day, the doctor told us he would have never released the dog in the condition our pet was released. He explained the brain damage was too severe, and that the most humane thing to do is to put her ro sleep. It is very concerning the lack of communication and professionalism in which this situarion was handled. We strongly recommemd better communication in this establishment. .
Negative experience: Horrible experience. We were there for almost 4 hours when they told us that it was going to be 15-30min. Everyone was getting updates of their pets except us. The next morning we took our dog with our vet and she said that the amount of medicine they gave her it was ridiculously high. Do not recommend.
Fantastic experience: They were amazing with our Maggie Mae! They got her fixed back up and we were able to take her home in about 2 hours time. If anything happens to any of our 3 Boston Terriers in the future and needs an emergency vet,..you can bet this is where we’ll be going!! Thanks again y’all
Negative experience: Do not go here. There’s no way it cost that much to help A KITTEN. she was barely 2 months old. Absolute ROBBERY!! im so incredibly angry and deeply in grief as I just lost my kitten to a birth defect. 5k to keep her overnight and administer iv fluids. My hospital bills don’t cost that much for the same thing! And $900 to resuscitate in case she died with them. INSANE! Taking advantage of the fact that people would do anything for their pets just to squeeze a couple extra dimes in is sick I don’t know how you people make any money overcharging the way you have. Absolutely disgusting and disgraceful.
Negative experience: We want to thank Dr. Krysten Gonzales for the kindness and compassion she showed us and our dog, Grizzly, in his final hours. She helped put us at ease in an incredibly difficult decision and took her time reassuring us that we were making the right choice. Her bedside manner was exceptional. We truly felt she was present with us, & my significant other said he felt she would have stayed as long as we needed. We are very grateful for her. The rating we gave reflects the experience prior to her arrival, which was likely outside of her control. I called Mission Vet at 6:57 pm to ask about euthanasia and was given pricing and told to call ahead if we decided to come in. I called again at 7:03 pm to inform them that our dog was in distress and we would be arriving within 10 minutes. During that call I provided my name, address, phone number, and our dog’s information and was told we would be taken directly to a room upon arrival. When we arrived, we were asked to complete paperwork that included information I had already provided. I quickly filled it out & informed the front desk that our dog was in distress and that we were there for euthanasia. We waited briefly and were taken to a room. The technician asked our reason for euthanasia, we gave a thorough history, & my significant other expressed that he wanted to ask the vet if this was the right decision. The tech told us the vet would speak with us shortly & that she would take our dog to the back to be prepped (IV insertion) & then bring him back to us. We waited 30–40 minutes before being told there were several emergencies that arrived and the vet would be with us shortly. We understand emergencies happen in an ER setting — that is why we were there — but our dog was OUR emergency & was in active distress. After over an hour had passed, I went to the front desk because our dog had not been returned. I was told he was “resting comfortably” & that there were “eyes on him.” When he was finally brought back to us, he was still visibly in distress & had not had an IV inserted. His breathing had become more shallow & rapid, with increased snout flaring compared to when we arrived. It was incredibly upsetting to be reassured he was comfortable when he clearly was not. If he was not being actively prepped or assessed due to the vet being unavailable, we don't understand why he wasn't returned to us sooner. It should not require a vet to instruct staff to return a patient to their family if no active care is being provided. Especially in a euthanasia situation, time matters. He was newly blind, & they were aware of this. Instead of being held by us during that hour, he was alone in the back. We were also told there was a shift change occurring. As a healthcare worker myself, I understand emergencies & workflow challenges — but a shift change should never result in a significant delay in care or communication. Dr. Gonzales arrived within 10–15 minutes after & apologized for the delay. She was compassionate & calm, and we are deeply thankful for her. I regret having to ask that we please medicate him quickly for pain, but so much time had already passed. Our dog passed at approximately 10:08 pm, nearly three hours after arrival, with only the final 15 minutes of his life medicated for significant pain. While we are at peace with the decision to let him go, we are struggling significantly with guilt. We trusted the process and believed he was being assessed, possibly medicated for pain or receiving respiratory support. Instead, we lost precious time. We carry the guilt of not asking sooner why we were waiting and the guilt of knowing our dog was scared and in pain when he didn't have to be. Clear communication could have changed our experience entirely. If you find yourself in a similar situation, I encourage you to speak up & ask direct questions if there are delays. Again, Dr. Gonzales provided exceptional care. Our concerns are solely with the communication and handling prior to her arrival.
Fantastic experience: Coconut and I were transferred here from our primary vet when she was struggling to improve from IMHA. I carried her inside when we first arrived and had to set her down briefly to pay the initial deposit. Within seconds of setting her down, the vet techs came out and brought her to the back for vitals. I immediately felt a huge sense of relief seeing how quickly they moved into action. From that first moment through the week of her hospitalization, we experienced an incredible amount of emotion and truly exceptional care. Based on her condition at admission, Coconut was given less than a 50% chance of a positive outcome. However, that didn't stop Dr. Ramsey from formulating a plan to save her and giving it his all. Coconut and I are forever grateful and no words could ever really truly express that. Besides the compassion of every doctor, vet tech and front desk agent we encourntered, one thing really stood out to me about MissionVet. Even though Dr. Ramsey laid out the groundwork for Coconut's case, throughout her stay multiple doctors took over and brought their unique perspective to it. Without that teamwork and shared goal to save Coconut, I'm not sure where we would be today. So I want to also express my gratitude to Dr. Sinese, Dr. Hindmarsh, Dr. Lozano, and all the wonderful techs (day and night), Mary, Angie, and the front desk staff. They were very accommadating to visitations and were always available on the phone for when I needed updates about Coconut. Just make sure you call to schedule visits! I also received a morning and evening phone call every day with updates about Coconut's progress and current state. I'm not sure if this was due to the severity of her case or if this is a regular thing, but it was greatly appreciated. And I'm certain that if you wanted that as well, all you would have to do is ask. Yes, the cost can get very expensive very quickly, but you get what you pay for and MissionVet is nothing but excellence. They set the standard for how veterinary hospitals should operate. I couldn't recommend them more highly than their reputation already does. Coconut's road to recovery is far from over but I can't wait to continue that journey with MissionVet. Thank you so much again for bringing back the joy in Coconut's eyes and giving her a second chance at what I hope will be many more happy years.
Positive experience: I was unsure if my dog ate Tylenol but was grateful to find out his brown gums are part of his make up. Blood tests came back negative for poison so all is good. Thanks to the staff for providing the emergency care!!
Fantastic experience: Took my dog here when she mysteriously became ataxic. The staff kept me informed and were very compassionate during my visit. Dr. Chloe Leonard was awesome, intelligent, and caring. I hope I never have to come back, but I appreciate the care!
Fantastic experience: Thank God for MissionVet Hospital and neurologist Dr. Marzullo and her great staff! Our foxie-doxie had emergency spinal surgery for a herniated disc after losing the use of her back legs. The surgery was successful and she is starting to walk again! It was terrifying as so many dogs with this (IVDD) end up paralyzed. The communication from the doctor and staff Katy and Jackie was outstanding all along, sending me updates and even photos of our girl post-surgery and recovery. I am very thankful for the level of skill, professionalism and caring shown by this outstanding group.
Fantastic experience: Two years ago I had to take my Dog Zoe here. I’m not going to lie, it was expensive for me I didn’t have insurance and don’t make a lot of money. HOWEVER I just want to thank yall from the bottom of my heart for helping me save her. She’s happy energetic and turning 12 this year. Dr. Jennifer Sinese God bless you tenfold. These people know what they’re doing
Fantastic experience: The staff and vets were very helpful and caring. Our dog was well taken care of. Each step was throughly explained.
Fantastic experience: We recently went to Mission Vet to see Dr. Nicole Garcia for an Orthopedic consult for our 11 year old Labrador. Thank you Dr. Nicole for taking the time to sit down and answer all of our questions. We didn’t feel rushed & we felt like all of our concerns were being addressed with empathy. & thank you to her tech Blatney Jackson, thank you for being so helpful & patient. This wasn’t our first visit to Mission. We’ve been here with our previous dogs & we will continue to come here when needed. They are absolutely amazing at making our dogs & us comfortable and they have always given us as much detail as possible. They are very transparent with pricing.
Negative experience: If I could give zero stars I would. I took my pet there due to being hit by a car. They have a 204$ mandatory exam fee I paid it . I was told this is just to look at her and I would need to pay more for any services my pet would need. The doctor came in to tell me exactly what I told them when I brought her in. I was asked multiple times for more money for treatment. Then they offered to euthanize my pet for free but not save her without pay. The office called me Monday and I could tell they expected me to say my pet had passed away. The entire attitude the lady had on the phone changed when I said my pet is doing better and is walking. My pet was hit by a vehicle. This office is good if you want to put your pet down. They gave me a box of donated medication to stop the bleeding and gave my dog a pain shot I am grateful for that. I purchased meds over the counter and my pet is STILL LIVING and walking and even running I’m so glad I didn’t leave her there.
Negative experience: Place charges way too much for doing sooooo little. . I paid almost 800 dollars for them (the child vet that saw us) to tell me she couldn't help my dog and I should put him down. I only went there because it was in the middle of the night. I said absolutely not give me back my dog... took him to his regular vet the very next morning and she fixed him right up. It's months down the road and he has been healed for some time now. After several months being seen there I get a phone call saying that I over paid at my visit and they will mail me a check that will take 6 to 10 weeks to get to me.. So basically they took my money, did nothing for my dog and told me I needed to put him down. ... I am not a happy camper!!!
Fantastic experience: Mr Kitty climbed into a dresser while we were at work and was trapped in it for 8 or more hours. When I found him he was not looking good so I called MissionVet Specialty and Emergency. They were able to see him right away. Christine and Dr Bundie provided excellent care, listening to what happened to him, how he was behaving, what his usual behavior is, and addressing all our concerns. Drawing for labs was recommended to make sure his CO2 levels weren't high. Everything looked good and we sent home to let Mr Kitty rest after he was given a hydration treatment with instructions to bring him back if he wasn't improving. The next evening found us back in the ER because Mr Kitty was not eating, drinking water or wanting to move and just not looking good at all. We really thought he was dying and it had us and our children scared. He was examined again and nothing concerning was found. Dr Bundie prescribed pain and inflammation medications because she believed he could have been with limbs and head stuck in awkward positions for who knows how long. She also prescribed a gel hunger stimulant. Once he was given medication he improved quickly. He's still resting and a little sore but the difference is remarkable. I cannot thank Dr Bundie and Christine enough for taking care of Mr Kitty and helping him to feel better. He is back to his usual jerk self, meowing constantly to let anyone know he was fed an hour ago but he still wants more and annoying his sister. I definitely recommend MissionVet Specialty and Emergency
Fantastic experience: I felt like both my pet and I were well taken care of at MissionVet. My questions and concerns were addressed with respect and thoughtfully answered. Every procedure was explained well beforehand so I could rest easier knowing my pet was in good hands.
Fantastic experience: We had a great experience with Mission Specialty & Emergency vet. Dr Daw ,the neurologist, was amazing. She explained our dog’s symptoms & possible causes of his issues in detail. She established a logical plan for us to follow to identify the source of the his problems. Everyone at Mission vet is so professional & compassionate. We experienced the same result in the ER as well. We highly recommend them & look forward to continuing our dog’s specialty care with them.
Fantastic experience: We unfortunately had to make the terrible decision to put our old dog to sleep. All of the staff was very compassionate from the receptionist to the techs and vet. They gave her special sweet treats, explained everything very well and gave us as much time with her as we needed. I was very happy that they sent us home wither her paw print and a beautiful copy of the Rainbow Bridge poem in a lovely box. We are forever grateful for their kindness and care of her and us!
Negative experience: Awful service, took forever to get seen, then told us that there was no one available to diagnose our dog but we would have to put him on IV fluids or they would not release him to is and that he WOULD NOT make it through the night. Which was absolutely a lie, we had to sign him out against medical advice, gave him flortiflora and he was better the next day, so I paid $40 and he got better but they wanted to charge me $3000-$7000 and couldn't tell me if he'd be okay and refused to release him. What a way to take advantage of a family that was emotionally vulnerable wanting to save their dog and making them feel like crap by telling them they are killing their dog because we couldn't pay $7000 to keep him there on IVs overnight and yet we were able to get him better using a $40 tablet we got from petco.
Fantastic experience: Had a big scare with my baby border collie and his epilepsy this week. Moments like these are hard, but having good, compassionate care can make a huge difference. Ollie had great care here with everyone from front desk, to techs, to vets. You can tell how much they care for the animals they see and we were always updated very clearly and regularly about how he was doing and about the next best step. Special thanks to the Neurology team who were mostly in charge of him. Thank you for your patience and for the love you do your work with.
Fantastic experience: Dr. Marzullo is absolutely wonderful!! Our dog needed urgent spinal surgery due to multiple ruptured discs. Dr. Marzullo personally called us on the same day of presentation, provided thorough explanations with empathy, and calmed us in a very stressful time. She performed our dog’s procedure with incredible results!! We could not be happier with her calming demeanor and excellent surgical care. The front desk staff is also extremely professional and helpful with any questions or concerns!! We would recommend coming here to anyone for the care of their pet!
Negative experience: Had the worst service ever and vary expensive and the sad part they told me to wait in the car cause it can have some virus contagious that part I really understand but the part I didn’t understand if it was contagious white like 20 minutes in the car later, they put us in a room and the doctor just comes in and check his stomach and heart and goes back and tells me he needs an IV really expensive and then I told her I didn’t have that money. It was too much so when the nurse comes in. she told me you can take the antibiotic home and I was like oh that works perfect for me cause that’s not too much money and then she told me let me just go get the paperwork with the doctor and she leaves and then comes back and tells me well. He needs at least two hours of IV so I didn’t have that money. It’s too expensive and she told me well you can’t take the antibiotic either if you don’t get the IV She was kind of rude and ugly. I really didn’t like their service there and I don’t really recommend it and that’s my opinion and I even asked Well can y’all at least give him something like an injection and they said no
Fantastic experience: Exceptional care! The staff is so caring and professional. They did such a great job taking care our boxer. They were quick and thorough. They even called me at home the next day to give us a discount and were quick to follow up on his care. Highly recommend!!!!
Fantastic experience: Drove in from Laredo and my dog was received immediately, staff was so nice and consoling. My older dog had surgery for a herniated disc and Dr. Marzullo was amazing, calling with updates and keeping in contact after we left. The facilities are exceptionally clean. Will be recommending MissionVet to all pet parents.
Positive experience: I’ve used them several times. They are always kind. They do take a while so if u go, get comfortable. I wish they would give u more updates while ur waiting and wished they had more vets on staff that handled the emergent cases but the ones that aren’t life and death. It operates just like any human ER. Emergent cases are priority, prices are reasonable and they take care credit which has been a lifesaver for me
Fantastic experience: Upon arrival was greeted and my boxer was given immediate attention. The response to the treatment for an allergic reaction took much longer than expected but the staff kept me informed of his progress several times throughout the wait and the vet was very informative upon leaving with secondary treatments at home. They also notified my regular vet who called to check up the next morning which was very reassuring. Two days later my boxer was back to his usual self. I'm very thankful and very pleased with the service I received and would highly recommend them if you are ever in need.
Fantastic experience: I just wanted to say thank you so much for your kindness and empathy shown to me and my family. My baby crossed over the rainbow bridge today and they showed so much compassion and allowed me to spend the time I needed with her. I knew this day would happen sooner rather than later just never imagined it so soon and my world stopped for a moment. Thank you kind staff, yall do not get enough praise for doing what yall do. (Photo of Flower attached)
Fantastic experience: We were referred to MissionVet Specialty and Emergency by our vet and we couldn’t be more pleased with the service we received. My nine-year-old Lab suddenly went from running 3 miles a day to not being able to walk. Dr Marzullo was incredibly sensitive to our situation. Dr Marzullo has not only incredible skills as a neurologist and surgeon, but she also has incredible bedside manner. She was able to do an MRI and determine that our lab had ruptured a disc. She took him in to surgery and was able to clean out all the debris. 48 hours later, he walked out of the vet and now five weeks later he is walking for 15 minutes 2x day and ready to go for runs, but it’s still on restricted activity due to doctors orders. All the staff were incredibly kind and compassionate. I highly recommend MissionVet!!!
Fantastic experience: My dogs had a very early morning run-in with a porcupine that resulted in a lot of needles in their faces. I called a few emergency vet clinics near me and they were either at capacity or unable to fit me in. Everything at Mission Vet went smoothly from the initial phone call to the treatment and follow up. It was expensive, but in line with what you would expect for an emergency vet. While I hope to not need an emergency vet in the future, I would absolutely make the drive and return here. 10/10 experience
Negative experience: This was one of the worst veterinary experiences our family has ever had. From the moment we arrived, we faced an extremely long wait time with minimal communication. Despite our cat having a serious issue, we were told that other pets were more urgent and ended up waiting for hours. In fact, four other pets were seen before ours, even though our cat’s condition was quite severe. The situation worsened when we were presented with exorbitant diagnostic fees before any proper examination. It felt like a money grab rather than genuine care for our pet. The entire experience was deeply frustrating and disheartening. In the end, we left and took our cat to another vet the same day. The difference was night and day. The second vet provided a thorough examination, clear communication, and genuine care. Our cat was found to be completely fine, just with a minor fever, and the total cost at the second vet was only $29. What’s even more concerning is that after our experience, we found numerous other reviews highlighting similar issues, including pets that suffered or even passed away after visiting this clinic. It’s clear that this clinic does not prioritize proper care or ethical practices. We strongly advise pet owners to look elsewhere. The lack of transparency, the excessive fees, and the overall handling of the situation were completely unacceptable. Please trust your instincts and choose a clinic that truly cares for your pet.
Fantastic experience: Very helpful/ thoughtful , kind, & understanding, from the front office to the techs and drs, thank you for helping myself, my family and my puppy in this difficult time. Rip Rex
Fantastic experience: I am beyond impressed with Dr. Ramsey. We could not figure out what was wrong with my 9.5 year old Bichon. Not only did he interpret all of the previous tests we had done on him, but he also gave us a solution that didn't involve expensive testing and procedures he didn't need. I am so thankful we found him!
Fantastic experience: The team was very attentive and thorough. We were seen quickly and communication was very good throughout our process. Follow-up was also quick and the team offered any alternatives to us with full information about factors and prospects of outcomes.
Fantastic experience: An amazing emergency vet service, who actually cares about its patients - animals and humans. They have been instrumental and helping us with our dog who has seizures. I cannot say enough, good things about this practice! The front office staff is consistently friendly and helpful; Dr Dow, and her techs are simply amazing. I give them all the stars. ⭐️ ⭐️⭐️ ⭐️ ⭐️
Negative experience: Not a fan. People are nice, but you will pay hundreds of dollars to speak with them and in our case, sweet kitty died after brutal suffering at home b/c parents couldn’t pay $4k ovenight fee for O2 kennel…yet Vet ultimately gave different cause of death than Mission thought it was. Lobby could use some investment from as much money as they rake in from distressed people with sick animals. I might be bitter. Too soon.
Fantastic experience: The people at Mission Vet are so nice and very patient answering questions. Our Westie developed a hard to diagnose disease. Dr Daw and her assistants have been following up on her with office appointments and follow ups by text and email. Our little girl is becoming more stable now and she is starting to play again. I highly recommend Mission Vet. For us it is an hour drive to get there but they have been very supportive. Dr Daw is wonderful and always tells you what is going on now and what to expect in the future.
Negative experience: Horrible wait time, i brought my dog in for an emergency when he had a severe long ongoing seizure around 1230 am and they just had him sit in a kennel “observing him” for 4 and a half hrs. At the 4.5 hr wait mark they said the doctor still hadn’t even looked at him or examined him and it would still probably be another hr or two before they saw him. I told them give me him back in hopes i could wait till his regular vet opened up. And after they returned him to me only an hr later he again had another long severe seizure. This place is overpriced and horrible service. I would never trust them in a life or death situation with my dog ever again. Neither should you if you care about your fur baby.
Fantastic experience: When my Frenchie decided to partake in Christmas Chocolates, this vet was very kind, attentive, and helpful in making sure everything came out ok. They communicated costs well and didn't seemed overpriced considering they are an emergency vet and it was Christmas. I have them on speed-dial should we ever encounter a rattlesnake or one of the other myriad of things curious Frenchies can get into. I love our home vet, but for after hours or an emergency- this one is great!
Fantastic experience: Mission Vet saved my puppy Kevin’s life after he was diagnosed with parvo, and I am beyond grateful. Dr. Robinson, Dr. Sam, Dr. Hindmarsh, Karina, and Angie were all incredible. They kept me very well informed every step of the way—sharing both the good and the bad—and always took the time to explain what was happening. Their honesty, compassion, and constant communication helped me completely trust them during such a scary time. I can’t thank this team enough for everything they did for Kevin and for our family!
Fantastic experience: They were able to diagnose my dog’s condition when two other clinics couldn’t. The staff is incredibly friendly and helpful. We had a slight wait because there were a few emergencies in front of our dog, but that’s okay. We’re now treating our dog. I feel confident knowing there’s a reliable place where I can take my animals to get them healed and happy.
Fantastic experience: Our 8-month-old puppy had an emergency on New Year's night. We went to MissionVet Specialty & Emergency. Our puppy was assessed quickly by a wonderful technician and then seen by a vet. She is now doing just fine. I highly recommend!
Fantastic experience: We were emergency transfer over after our dog collapsed and they were ready and waiting when he arrived. our baby had to spend the night there and I did receive updated pictures of him and he looked really happy. Thank you you guys from us and King Chuy
Fantastic experience: Great experience from the minute I walked in the door. Everyone is very friendly and caring. My doctor’s have given both my fur babies years they would not have had. Have full confidence in their care.
Fantastic experience: This was our first experience at Mission Vet, but everyone was so friendly and knowledgeable that we knew we’d made the right choice. I’m so thankful to everyone there, and even though we were worried and stressed out, we felt that our girl was in the best hands. We’re very thankful for the caring and capable staff there.
Fantastic experience: Brought my dog very early on a Thursday morning (1am) and everyone was AMAZING! The whole staff did such a great job with him and kept me informed. Kristina (spelling?) was so good to Odin and treated him like her own. Highly recommend MissionVet if your pet has an emergency.
Negative experience: I was really disappointed in the way everthing was handled from the moment I walked in. My dog was wet and cold from petco having to stop her grooming session, gums cold and pale. They placed her in an air chamber and but when I went back to look at her, she looked worse and the air inside the chamber was causing her to be more cold. I asked a young lady to place the warmer on which is just a button you press and she said “she doesn’t need it.” Then told me to go back to the room quickly and didn’t seem to notice my dog was about to pass away any minute. The veterinarian asked if I wanted to give her medication or euthanize her. He would ask a question, I would respond and he would be silent. He came off arrogant and cold. I asked for my dog back to leave, tongue was purple and she was freezing. I don’t know how the veterinarian didn’t see that she was already in her last moments. My beautiful dog passed away in my arms in the parking lot. It was a horrible situation, do not take your pets to this place.
Fantastic experience: We had to make a difficult decision to let our beloved guardian go very early in life. Dr. Johnson and Sabrina were incredibly supportive and professional. I HIGHLY recommend Mission for your furr baby emergency care.
Fantastic experience: Mission Vet was great when my dog Taco had an emergency after his sutures ruptured. The vet took the time to explain everything clearly, went over all of my options, and set expectations so I knew exactly what to expect. They even followed up the day after surgery to check on Taco and sent everything to his regular vet so his care stayed on track. Everyone was kind, thorough, and professional, and I’m really grateful for how they took care of him.
Fantastic experience: We have had to visit twice with our medically complicated pet who had sudden emergencies while our usual clinic was not open (11 pm last night.) Each time the technicians, reception staff and medical personnel have been empathetic, kind and very professional. No pet parent wants to walk out of a clinic without their baby, but the folks at Mission Vet were patient and kind and made what was a very difficult process bearable. I felt supported and well informed the entire time and never wondered what my costs would be. I don't want to recommend an emergency clinic, but I'm glad Mission Vet is there when I need them.
Negative experience: Brought my dog in at 830 am for a small wound on her neck. I paid $200 just to get them in the door. I was told it would be a “couple hours”. After waiting 3 hours I asked for an update and was told they would have a tech come out to give me an update. I waited 3 more hours before a tech even came out and was then told my dog was next in line and would be about 30 minutes. After an additional 2 and a half hours I was finally moved to an exam room. I then waited in the exam room for 30 minutes for a vet to arrive. They told me what they would like to do (shave, clean and bandage). They then told me a tech would follow with prices. I then waited an additional 30 minutes for them to come in and quote $800 to $1200 just for them to clean and bandage. I immediately left and just did the cleaning and bandaging at home with the same supplies they use, which only cost about $30 and my dog is doing great. For reference, I took my dog to another emergency vet the day before and was charged $250 for them to shave, clean, anesthetize, and staple a wound and provided two medications. At this other place, I was in and out in about one hour. I will never go here again if there is any other option available. You are better off driving hours away to get your animal seen in a timely manner and it will likely be significantly cheaper. They say that the price is due to them having highly trained staff and being an emergency vet, which is understandable for prices to a certain point. But after going to another emergency vet with the same highly trained staff where I got more done for less than a quarter of the price with a shorter wait time.
Fantastic experience: My experience at MissionVet was extremely positive. Dr. Ramsey and his assistant Brandy carefully listened to my concerns as a pet parent and they truly took care and time ensuring that my questions and concerns were addressed. Dr. Ramsey was supportive and empathetic. He thoroughly explained my dog’s condition, and offered various options for her. I’m happy that I came to MissionVet.
Fantastic experience: Amazing people! I had to take my boy here for a specialist after another SA vets hospital couldn't. I'm not local, 4 hours drive for me. That vet referred MissionVet and they took us in. They treated my boy like he was one of their own. The staff were beyond great, super friendly and I got updates when needed, I was allowed visitations. The dept, and their Drs were great in explaining everything, what could be done and what was needed to be done, way more compared to the others vets hospitals where there was only one option. No run arounds, straight to the point which is the safety and health of the pets that are brought in. They gave me hope and reassurance when I thought that I lost it all.
Positive experience: I'm going to preface this and say that I visited MissionVet on Christmas Eve, so I know that there was a smaller staff than usual. I took my cat in after calling them. My cat had blood in his urine, an already diagnosed UTI, & a history of urinary blockage. After seeing him immediately, and determining no blockage - I then preceded to wait for over 7 hours to hear from the vet. I arrived at 10am. I got one update on my cat at about 12:30. I was told it could be a wait, but they wanted me to stay in the building. I then had to request an update around 3:30pm after not hearing from anyone. I was put into a room at 4pm and promised that the vet would talk with me shortly. After almost an hour, I had to open the door and let a passing by tech know that I was still in this room. I will say when the vet did come in and talk to me, she was very kind and understanding. She talked me through all the possibilities. I did feel like that my cat was forgotten about. She said she attempted to examine him, but he was resistant. I feel like she had just examined him only after I reminded the staff I was still here waiting - for 7 hours. Oh, it was also $204 to just have your pet be seen. Although the staff was friendly and the vet knowledgeable, I feel that I was there way too long.
Fantastic experience: Communication was excellent — they kept us regularly updated and were always true to the times they said they would call, which meant so much during such a stressful period. It was clear that Francisco wasn’t just another patient; he was genuinely cared for. Dr. Hindmarsh met with us daily, took the time to explain what was going on, and answered our questions thoughtfully. We truly appreciated the consistency and personal attention. Karina, the vet tech, was especially kind — not only to Francisco, but also to our young family during visits. Her compassion did not go unnoticed. While we wish we had never needed emergency care, we are deeply thankful that this was the team caring for our cat. We would absolutely trust them again and highly recommend them to anyone needing emergency veterinary services.
Negative experience: Worst experience I have ever had at a veterinarians office, your best is obviously in bad shape if your willing to drop $300 just to walk in the door, the least the girls could have done at the front desk was to show the smallest amount of empathy, just something to make you feel at ease, but nope that was to much to ask, they were loud and laughing and cutting up, the TV was so loud it was crazy, ,we waited 4 hours for nothing to be told it could be a number of things then we waited another hour for his scripts because they started to work on another animal, never again
Fantastic experience: The team at Mission saved my baby’s life. They provided quick, expert care, and they kept us well informed along the way. If you need 24 hour care for your fur baby, I highly recommend Mission.
Negative experience: This vet er is the worst . They dont give a crap about your pets medical emergency . I was petsitting & the dog ate bad bologne & was throwing up and lethargic and foaming at the mouth. I caught all the after hours emergency vets and this place is the only place that said yes bring them in we can see him but that was just a call center when we got there they wouldn't do anything for him unless we paid $205.00 I gave him the owners name and number and she was just sitting there and she tried to call him one time and we were there for like 2 hours waiting and she wasn't doing anything she wasn't trying so I got my friend to pay the $25 just for the initial is 205 hours and then he was going to call them and pay with his credit card and she knew that and she walked away from the desk and he was calling and calling and calling for like 20 minutes and she never came to take the payment. We left that horrible place
Fantastic experience: Took Bella Rose in she was in labor and having complications the baby, however didn’t make it. Dr. Johnson and his staff were very compassionate and assisted her and she’s now home with me and I want to say thank you for your assistance.
Negative experience: Went in expecting a long wait as this is an emergency clinic. My dog taken in right away, stabilized, then the wait began. The physician showed very little empathy/sympathy, discussed possible treatment options but when I asked if she had any recommendations to help direct me to a physician, she clearly stated "no" and that I would have to do my own research to find a doctor that could help my pet. Luckily I got a referral from a friend and my dog was seen right away. Disappointingly, the new doctor questioned why my dog was not treated with additional antibiotics considering the cause of her injury. This directly impacted the treatment options. Albeit an emergency hospital, they should be more prepared to help with referrals if they are not able to treat a condition. Interestingly, I had a better experience when I took a different pet there one year ago and was given referrals to the appropriate specialists. My pets name was Dahlia, broken femur, left hind leg, from dog attack brought in on 11/28/25
Fantastic experience: We had a sad experience here, but we’re glad to have answers about our elderly little dog’s alarmingly bloated belly. The doctors and staff were wonderful. Yes, it’s expensive, especially without pet insurance. But they provided excellent emergency care. ✨
Fantastic experience: This place is the BEST! I rushed my boy, Luca, to the ER because he was having seizures. The lady at the front was so kind and welcoming. Luca was terrified to get off the car, so they helped me. We didn’t have to wait as they took him in immediately. Dr. Gillis was super sweet and thorough, she took care of him, sent us home with medication and booked us an appointment with the neurologist for the next day! When we arrived, we didn’t have to wait at all (this never happens), we met with Dr. Marzullo who did a thorough examination on Luca to provide him with the best course of action to control Luca’s epilepsy. I felt a huge weight of my shoulders, and my baby is back to normal. Thank you Mission Pet for all you did for my baby Luca! If you have an emergency, which I hope you don’t, this is the place to go!
Fantastic experience: The staff was caring to our dog and us! They helped us get our payment processed and get our sweet Tucker taken care of!
Negative experience: The worst experience ever this place is a scam. They charge me $204 they did not even see my cat I waited for 2 1/2 hours I asked the receptionist that I wanted to refuse service as soon as I said that they took me into an exam to discuss what the doctor was recommending they kept saying my cat was low risk and stable but he had a fever and had been inside a kennel the doctor said that my cat wouldn’t allow her to exam him but they wanted $1,200.00 before any treatment to be done we took the cat to a different veterinarian, and there’s nothing wrong with the cat besides his slight fever. Wow, beware of the scam Lucky my American Express covers scammers like this
Fantastic experience: Great experience. Worried for the worst and was very pleased with our visit …Neurologist spent ample time with me explaining Rusty’s condition, expectations and path forward. We will definitely use Mission Vet again if need arises!
Fantastic experience: Stormymae my pitti had issues with her back legs last night. They, were prompt, polite and tended to her need quickly and efficiently. It was a great experience. I would recommend them to anyone I know who has an animal who is in need of emergency care…
Fantastic experience: Mission Vet quite literally saved our dog’s life. Our sweet pup needed emergency surgery for a life-threatening lung lobe torsion, and every single person we encountered treated her with compassion, urgency, and exceptional skill. The surgical team, techs, and front desk staff were calm, communicative, and thorough — they kept us updated every step of the way. She is now home and recovering well because of them. We are endlessly grateful. Highly recommend Mission Vet for any emergency care needs.
Positive experience: Very nice and clean facility. The doctor was extremely professional, empathetic and kind. It's very unfortunate that pet care is so expensive. Dog head MRI is over $4,000. The MRI would also require a chest MRI for over $1,000. The doctor provided options that were less expensive. Cost for the emergency visit was over $600. The high costs unfortunately lead to animal abandonment and dumping of pets.
Negative experience: I had the worst experience, my almost 1 yr old puppy was struggling to breathe at 11pm and we waited in our car for over an hour before he was mandatory tested for parvo and no one let us know there was a 4-5 hour wait. We paid $389 for parvo & exam fee before he was placed in exam room. Finally a Dr came in after another hour and we had to once again repeat his symptoms and once she told us it was probably kennel cough she asked us to do diagnostics (chest, and stomach X-rays & bloodwork) we were so exhausted and just wanted to go home but then waited for a quote…another hour later someone came in and quote was $1400-$1800 & when I asked to just give antibiotics & we would follow up with primary vet, the dr declined. Not a good experience my baby suffered almost 5 hours & finally fell asleep just to leave with a $389 bill & quotes of diagnostics. This should not be listed as an emergency 24hr pet care if they are not staffed for it to be urgent. It also took us 45 min to checkout because no one was at front desk.
Negative experience: This is not an emergency vet. Expect to wait 4+ hours. We arrived at 11pm and were told to wait in our car and had to do a MANDATORY parvo test before our baby could even be examined, which took 45min to an hour. When we were finally able to go in we had to wait for an exam that only took less than 10 minutes and were told the services would cost around 1600-1800 dollars. We wanted to get a different price quote but we waited another hour for that as well and no one showed up. We finally had enough and walked to the front lobby where there is no one to be found. Just an empty front desk. We left at 2am. Complete waste of our time and money. No sense or urgency. Awful communication. Do not go here.
Fantastic experience: I was overwhelmed by the care & professionalism this hospital gave my girl, Lolly, who had reputured a disc in her back. Diagnosis & following surgery was performed & we're hoping a complete recovery in a few months. Special thanks to Dr. Marzullo, who cared for & performed the surgery. A special thank you to the staff & surgical team. If your pet is in need of emergency services, look to Missionvet first.
Negative experience: I recently took my 6 week old puppy here after he had uncontrollable vomiting. They tested him for parvo which came back negative but insisted we treat him as if he had it without doing any other test. Their next course of action was asking to keep him over night to do iv fluids and wanted $3,500. I ended up paying $350 for basically just a parvo test, left, and took him to his primary vet where they administered iv found out he had hook worms and sent home medicine with me only totaling around $200. Honestly, very unhelpful and glad I didn’t let them keep him and run up my bill.
Fantastic experience: My baby was experiencing vomiting, fatigue, and not wanting to eat. I was told he needed to get an ultrasound ($950) done to see more in depth what the X-rays could not. Turned out to be the squeaker out of a toy that was causing an obstruction in his intestines. Dr. Rose was able to operate on him right away and get it out. I was constantly getting updates on Boomers well being which I loved. Truly made me feel my baby was in good hands and cared for. I want to humbly thank Dr. Rose and mission vet for saving my baby’s life. Words can’t express how grateful I am.
Fantastic experience: Dr. Hindmarsh and his staff gave my dog Boss exceptional care!! Boss is a very complicated case and patient he has pancreatitis, diabetes, and starting stage kidney disease. I was worried there was no one that could help him but I found everything I needed and more there. He was hospitalized and in the ICU unit there for two nights and everything was addressed and treated. My dog is a family member and treated like royalty. So him receiving exceptional care is a very high bar and they gave him just that! Karina Dr. Hindmarsh assistant was absolutely awesome, she sent me photos of boss all day everyday. She kept in touch and told me everything that was going on and had gave me direct number and I knew and saw the great care he received! Dr. Hindmarsh called me multiple times a day and kept me well informed. I’m so grateful for mission vet. Boss will been seen and kept under the specialized care they offer from here on out!!
Fantastic experience: Everyone we interacted with on 11/10/25 late night shift was great. From the front desk triage team to the techs and vets, they all cared so well for my sweet baby Henry. We went to Mission Vet for their emergency clinic because he ate a chicken bone. We found out that he had advanced cancer during the imaging at our visit. Dr. Weis was so very kind and caring when she delivered this news, and she went the extra mile to ensure proper diagnosis. I can’t thank her enough for her bedside manner. I don’t hope for another emergency, but if we have one, I hope Dr. Weis is on duty.
Negative experience: Do not take you beloved pet here. I took my dog here and they had did a bunch of unessarry procedures to run my bill up to $3000.00 and did not even order the most important scan first. They waited until the next day after they ran my bill up for overnight care. Gave me one price ended up being more. Then said well we need another scan with more detail. Should have ordered that one scan in the beginning. Even put my dog on a feeding tube overnight which he didn't even need and aggravated the situation. If my dog would have gotten the proper care in the first 24 hours he may have lived. They did it selfishly to run my bill up not to help my dog. He ended up having a blockage and becuae it went on for two days he died. I ended up taking him to another vet who told me none of the things mission did help my dog.
Fantastic experience: I brought my 11 year old Labrador to be seen this past Saturday for labored breathing. They immediately took him in. From start to finish it was a smooth process. Dr Gonzales was amazing and thorough. Even when the news was hard to digest she took her time to pause and answer questions, and you could hear the sincerity. The other two ladies who I spoke with on treatment and payment were kind as well. This was his third time at this location in the past five years and can say I am always met with 1) Kindness and professionalism 2) Clear diagnosis and treatment 3) Ownership of how I want to go about taking care of my dog. Which I will highlight being that other emergency vets can place a pressure on doing everything possible at that very moment. I had time to think and proceed forward on what I could afford and what would give relief to my baby.
Fantastic experience: Our small male Doxipoo swallowed an acorn that lodged in his intestines. He was very sick and weak when we took him to Mission Vet. They performed emergency surgery on him and cared for him with love, tenderness, and compassion. Great communication with surgeon and staff. Clearly, saved our precious Toby! Highly recommend them if you love and care for your pet.
Fantastic experience: After 20 years together, I had to say good bye to my buddy Jake today. It was a very difficult decision but MissionVet showed compassion throughout the entire process. I'm sorry but I don't remember everyone's name but they were all very professional and allowed my son and i to stay with Jake until the end. Thank you Dr. Johnson and again to all the staff involved.
Negative experience: I paid $204 for the Dr to tell me that my cat is limping and is dehydrated, I knew that was wrong when I brought him in I told them that when we got here, then they hit me with test blood work and X-rays are $1800. No payment plan…. Mind you when the first girl said she touched our cat he didn’t give no signs of hurting in the leg he might just be sore but she would let the Dr look more into it, without x-rays, the doctor said she touched him and he is in excruciating pain, when He hasn’t given signs of any pain at all. I refused the Non-affordable $1800 up front bill, So she is going to give him some pain medication, vomiting medication and send him home for an extra $140! I recommend you do some homework and find a place that’s not gonna waste your time and is actually going to help your pet, here I got the vibe that it was all about money, Pretty much if your pet is in severe pain or dying they won’t help until you run your credit card!
Positive experience: The staff and Dr were all amazing and sweet. I felt the price was a bit much! Just to walk in was crazy expensive. They tell you to leave a deposit but they want you to pay full price up front and then give you money back if they don't need it. My Fur baby ingested meds that were not safe, they took care of her. But I feel like I paid a massive amount of money for some meds and for for them to just monitor her for the day.
Fantastic experience: Had a wonderful experience. The staff was friendly and knowledgeable, but most importantly my dog received exceptional care. I also thought the prices were very reasonable for after-hours emergency treatment.
Negative experience: AVOID! This place nearly killed my dog! Brought my small dog in around 11 pm. They charge $200 as their standard price, just to be seen. It took about 3.5 hours of sitting in the freezing cold building, to receive no answers on what was actually wrong. I didn't get updates, or my dog back, until I was done paying. I felt that they hold pets hostage, until they are sure they get their money. My little dog was gagging and vomiting, and suddenly had swelling on his sides. They gave him an anti nausea, and sedative medicine. I was told the swelling was likely an adipose fat deposit. I asked how that much fat could deposit suddenly, and never did receive an answer. I had to take him to two additional veterinarians to actually get an answer. The second vet immediately pointed out that he has a large mass in his neck. Mission City never even noticed! The 3rd vet discovered a large mass in his thoracic cavity. It is pushing on his heart, lungs, and stomach. They told me to immediately cease giving him any sedative, as this was making his breathing even more difficult! The pain killer was extremely dangerous for the condition he was in, and the swelling was actually edema, because fluids were building up, along the mass, nearly killing him. How can a Dr mistake edema for a sudden fat deposit?!?! Absolutely stupid and clueless. In the end, my visit cost nearly $300, and it actually put my dog in extreme danger! My dog was having a medical emergency, and they made it seem as though nothing serious was happening. I'm so glad I didn't believe that, and got a second, third, and eventually fourth opinion. My dog would most likely be dead by now, if I had trusted this place! For reference, my dog was seen by Dr. Krysten Gonzales. She does not know what she is talking about!!
Fantastic experience: We have had several trips to this location. Each one for a different pet or issue. The staff is fantastic! I believe they truly care about their furry clients. Each issue has been resolved and handled in a timely manner.
Negative experience: I definitely wouldn’t recommend it here, some of the staff was nice not all they keep you on hold for awhile on the phone. Went to take my dog to be seen because she has a lump near her throat this was at 4pm by the time we left was at 1am with literally no results just stating she had a fever and paid literally $500 just for them to prick a needle for lab results that wasn’t even “readable” which we received 48hrs later. So now I’m here with my dog whose lump is bigger and out of $500 with no knowledge what the problem is. When I called to see what I can do about her situation because it seem it got worse they just offered me to come back to see a consultant to give me the same results we did the first time to so another lab test which is another $300 So you can see why I’m pissed because now I have to go somewhere else so get her checked out because apparently they can’t give me any news about her condition. Why should I spend more money when the first $500 spend didn’t give me any result now u guys want more money to finally do the job right. Ridiculous!
Fantastic experience: My dog swallowed the elastic netting used to wrap a smoked ham. Mission Vet said to bring him in immediately and within 2 hours of him ingesting the netting, they recovered it from his stomach. It was a very busy Sunday night in the emergency room but they were quickly receiving and treating all the pets. They have their act together! Definitely a plus for the North West side of San Antonio and Helotes to have such a quality 24 hour Veterinarian Emergency clinic.
Fantastic experience: UPDATE: Again I would like to thank you guys. Going above and beyond. Calling to credit my account because of my military service. Thank you. Calling AGAIN to check on Buddy’s recovery. Thank you. It is so comforting knowing you guys are always available. Dr. Cobarruvias and the staff were very responsive when we presented Buddy with diarrhea and breathing concerns. Their quick exam and subsequent information settled our concerns and put us on track to Buddy’s recovery. It’s nice to know that they are there, even at 4am. Thank You.
Fantastic experience: I took my GSD/Great Pyrenees dog in at almost midnight. He had ripped part of his upper lip!! While I wasn't able to pay for stitches, $1200+ they did give me antibiotics and anti inflammatory medicine for him. The staff and Vet were very kind and understanding about my inability to cover the treatment for my dog. I'm a senior and on limited income. Just for examination and medication it was $240!! But being an Emergency Vet Clinic that's why it was so expensive!
Fantastic experience: The doctors were great about keeping us updated throughout our dogs stay in the hospital. Karina was especially helpful with staying in contact, sending photos and answering all of our questions.
Negative experience: Homeless have nothing to do with my time mission vet that should be the new name my pup sit in pain for 8 hours after been attack viciously the message that was stated her pain is not urgent or more important than the other dogs if other dogs walk in your puppy will continue waiting it seems like they standing over the other dogs babysitting them because no movement until new dogs walk thru the door. So so disappointed.
Fantastic experience: We cannot thank this vet enough. The reviews on their site can be misleading, but just like adult/pediatric emergency rooms— the wait can be long and it will be pricey since these are emergency services. They saved both our kitties lives in the past, one was in renal failure and paralyzed from the legs down and one had a urinary obstruction. Recently, our sweet Pomeranian puppy, Molly, had swallowed a foreign object. They responded very quickly to the situation, were very communicative, and the staff was absolutely more than stellar. Dr. Johnson and Dr. H kept us in the loop the entire time and all throughout her stay explaining everything perfectly and efficiently. Molly was able to come home the following day feeling better and like her happy self. (Just waiting for her to pass it, now!) We seriously cannot thank this team enough. The service and healthcare we get from this vet will always be worth every penny.! We will always choose MissionVet for all of our pets emergencies.
Fantastic experience: Our kitten went into cardiac arrest following his neutering procedure. The vet recommended MissionVet. We brought him in and they took him back immediately. The Admin clerk was very kind. She worked with us to provide the necessary care within our budget. Dr. Tully was very gentle with him. I've no doubt the care he received here saved him. I will recommend this place to others.
