Experiencia fantástica: I have been a client of Dr. Diane Bennetts for many years now and she has watched over my Mona Tabby, my Joey white and black who looked like Toby (the Clinic cat), and then my Trouble who from kittenhood until 13 when she chose me had another staff person, who was a friend of Dr. Bennetts. Trouble is now 15 with two teeth and doing excellently. Both Mona and Joey have passed over to the Rainbow Bridge, but the caring and compassion from not only Dr. Diane, but the entire staff as well as Sheila, Angie, Erin and Jackie makes this a family visit every time I stop in. EDIT: Trouble passed in 2016, then Cissy & Toby adopted me at 10 months. The care from Dr. Bennetts is still paramount and the best. The entire staff is still great! UPDATED: 5/21/2025 - Dr. Bennetts had retired so I now needed a new Doctor for Toby & Cissy. We chose Dr. Gabriella Henthorn and then met with her for a checkup and shots for Toby on May 19, 2025. Both her and the assistant Alyssa were nice. 3/4/2026 Toby had a checkup and I had a very good calming discussion with Dr. Nathan Greseth. Toby was very relaxed with him. Thank you!

They have squeezed me in for urgent visits and been available via email which I did not anticipate. Love them and their whole staff! Everyone has been really wonderful!

Over the past year, the quality of care and service has declined rapidly, replaced by a general sense of chaos and disorganization. Operational Issues: * Chronic Tardiness: Appointments consistently run 20+ minutes late. * Disorganization: During our last visit, the staff didn't even know which room we were in. * Poor Communication: Phone wait times are excessive, and follow-up calls regarding lab results often arrive several days later than promised. Clinical Concerns regarding Dr. Neuses: My experience with Dr. Neuses has been particularly troubling. Despite being only a few years into her career, she carries an "all-knowing" attitude that leaves no room for client collaboration. * Diagnostic Overreach: She consistently pushes for expensive diagnostic tests for obscure/rare diseases while seemingly ignoring common clinical signs of infection. * Dismissive Attitude: She refuses to consider reasonable requests or discuss information from reputable veterinary research. * Risk to Patient Health: Most importantly, her refusal to pursue common-sense treatments based on clear lab findings is actively putting my cat’s health at risk. If you are looking for a vet who values your history as a client, respects your input, or manages their schedule effectively, I suggest looking elsewhere. ** UPDATE: Response to Clinic’s Comments ** Rating: 0/5 Stars (If I could) The response from Small Animal Hospital is a perfect example of the arrogance and clinical stubbornness patients can now expect here. The "diagnostic test" the clinic is referencing is an expensive ultrasound that has limited value in informing a treatment plan. This isn’t just my opinion—an Internal Medicine Specialist at Cornell Veterinary School consulted specifically stated this test would likely be of limited value in this case. I will trust the expertise of a specialist with decades of experience over the ego of a vet who has been out of school for only two years. Key Issues with the Clinic’s Response: * Negligence vs. Theory: Dr. Neuses is prioritizing a theoretical concern about antibiotic resistance over the immediate, life-threatening risk of allowing a chronic kidney infection to go untreated. * Ignoring Safe Solutions: She has refused a short diagnostic trial of a cat-specific antibiotic with a very high safety profile, despite reasonable lab findings. * No Path Forward: Small Animal Hospital has offered no real treatment plan other than a "wait and see" approach that borders on malpractice. They seem more interested in being "right" than in treating my pet. After 25 years, I expected clinical competence; instead, I received an expensive lesson in how quickly a practice can descend into ego-driven negligence. It is a dangerous combination when a vet with only two years of experience possesses the arrogance to ignore both a seasoned pet parent and a world-class specialist at Cornell. When a local clinic decides their 'wait and see' approach is superior to a sensible and evidence-based treatment plan while a pet’s health hangs in the balance, it isn’t just stubbornness—it’s malpractice. Save your pet the risk and find a facility that values life over ego. ** UPDATE: I’ve discovered why the quality and culture at Small Animal Hospital have shifted so drastically.** After decades of local ownership, the clinic was sold (around 2021/2022) to National Veterinary Associates (NVA), a global corporate consolidator owned by a private equity-backed holding company. They cut corners to pad the bottom line while leveraging the trusted 'Small Animal Hospital' name to hike prices. It’s no longer the neighborhood clinic local vets built; it’s a corporate asset where efficiency is prioritized over our pets' well-being. If you’ve noticed the 'soul' of the clinic is gone, this is the reason why.

Experiencia fantástica: I was looking for a new vet because we had recently moved and my cat was sick. It was really easy to schedule an appointment online. Once I did, I was called shortly after with a recommendation that he come in sooner and provided availability for same day appointments. The staff was all very friendly, attentive, and knowledgeable. My cat is very warry of new people, especially when he's being poked and looked at during a vet appointment. He was so comfortable and relaxed, so I was, too. The provided detailed care instructions which include quick solutions to try to address his illness. The price was also really reasonable. Overall, would highly recommend Small Animal Hospital.

Experiencia fantástica: Lisa at the front desk, Allison, our Vet Tech. Destiny, the observing Vet Assistant, and Dr. Henthorn were all totally amazing! Allison loved-up our kittens so much! Both boys were very comfortable and didn’t seem stressed at all. Their wellness exams went really well and the youngest kittens vaccine injections were a breeze. Overall, so happy we found this Veterinary Hospital/clinic for our kittens!

Experiencia fantástica: This was my first time at small animal hospital. Dr. Neuses was amazing! She was very sweet and gentle with my cat. She went over all my concerns and sent me home feeling confident in my pets health. All staff was friendly and welcoming. There was a slight delay but it was no issue to me or my pet. He got to soak up the sun in the waiting room. They were apologetic and saw me as soon as they could. Already recommended a friend to come here!

From the moment we walked in, Kathy at the front desk noticed my dog’s nerves and offered to let us wait in an exam room instead of the common waiting area. Tech Allison and Dr. Henthorn were so attentive and kind. They really listened to me and they helped my dog feel safe and comfortable. They accommodated my dog’s needs by only having her interact with female staff and keeping her away from other dogs. They were knowledgeable and gave a clear treatment plan for my dog’s health issues. I am really grateful for the kindness of the entire team. I think we will be clients for life.

Everyone, from the receptionist who answered my initial phone call to the tech who did my intake to the doctor who did the exam, to the receptionist who checked me out to the follow up phone call... Every single person was kind, friendly, and compassionate. I was extremely nervous and anxious about the health of my fur baby and they gained my confidence immediately and helped me feel at ease that he was in good hands. Cannot recommend enough.

If you need a vet for your cat, this is the best place!

Experiencia negativa: I have been coming here for 4.5 years with my dog. We have never been late, missed an appointment, and have been loyal patients. I made an appointment earlier in the day ( I work 1.5 hours away ) and live ( 45 mins away ), but I am loyal. My dog has two lumps that sprang up seemingly overnight. I left work over 2 hours before my appointment to be safe and was trekking on time when it started snowing, and the weather turned bad, and traffic even worse. I understand doctors have schedules, but sometimes patients are left waiting. The last time I had an appointment, the tech was late, but did I walk out? No? This wasn't a standard appointment. I am concerned about the health of my dog, and there was zero flexibility or compassion from them. I will not continue with this vet - we want a vet that shows compassion, understands that weather, traffic, terrible accidents can occur, and to just turn us away is ridiculous - zero leniency or grace. Sad that Freddy wasn't cared for

They are friendly, typically get my dog in pretty quickly, and most importantly my dog loves them. Unfortunately, my 6 month old puppy has been in to visit them more times than normal, but they've been great so far.

Dr. Gresseth and his team take the time to understand the layers of my cat’s multiple conditions, help me understand what we’re doing and why, and answer any questions I have a long the way. My heart feels so much lighter knowing that we have an entire team dedicated giving her the best care possible. 10/10 would recommend :)

As someone who often has anxiety about the well-being of my cat, they are always judgement free and has never made me feel like I’m overreacting if I bring her in for an emergency check up. Dr. Vogel is amazing and I can tell she truly cares about the health of my pet. While I do think it’s a bit pricier than some other places, I think it’s a fair price to pay for the quality of customer service they provide for both me and my kitty.

Experiencia negativa: Literally the absolute worst animal hospital.!! Took my family cat here when he was sick they gave him a ton of medication and he’s never had medication before so we asked if they medicine would make him worse bc he was vomiting for hours they told us no and that the medication they give him should make him back to normal. It did the opposite in a few hours he couldn’t walk was bleeding from his mouth and gasping for air then died . As veterinarians you are supposed to know what you are doing when it comes to animals we had a healthy 2 year old cat before taking him here ..I don’t recommend this place 0/0

Experiencia fantástica: Though my cat was not a current patient of Small Animal Hospital, the front desk was kind and understanding and fit us in with a same day appointment due to our regular vet being booked. The clinic’s lobby is large and airy with lots of sunny windows, skylights and plenty of seating, creating a calming environment. Everyone we encountered was friendly, gentle and very thorough. Pricing is inline with similar vet clinics in the area. They even trimmed his nails at no charge and sent us home with a half dozen Churro treats. Highly recommended!

The staff is incredibly friendly, caring, and knowledgeable. You can tell they genuinely love what they do and treat every pet like their own. They go above and beyond to make sure your pet is well taken care of, and the pricing is very reasonable. It’s always a wonderful experience from start to finish. I can’t recommend them enough!!!! Experiencia negativa: I called today for a price check to get my dog's nails clipped & was told I would have to pay nearly $90 for an exam to become an "Established Client " before being charged even more for the clipping. I'm "established" at another vet clinic but being a senior & living a few blocks away from Small Animal Hospital & not being mobile I was hoping to transfer to SAH, I will not be doing this because of their rigid rules & ridiculous high prices & bad attitudes. I asked if I could bring my pet there if there was ever an emergency and they said "No,we are not an emergency hospital". So if my pet got suddenly ill you people are telling me I can't bring her there, because I'm not an "Established Client ?" Same employee that has been there for years told me this on the phone today! I stopped taking my pets there years ago because of this b.s.but hoped they improved but they haven't.

By far one of the best clinics i’ve ever gone to. the doctor was so kind and informative. we brainstormed together and she was straight to the point, no sugar coating. recommended what was best for my pal and not just unnecessary testing/treatment. they were so respectful towards my dog too. made sure he felt safe and did their best to not push his limits. truly an amazing experience. these kinds of clinics are the type that you can really tell that they’re in this industry for their love for the animals. Really nice looking, comfortable facility and every staff member gives off that Milwaukee vibe that makes us feel like we're in a small friendly village. I first went to them when we moved here in 1968 and took Pitschi as a kitten, it's now Susette who's 17.

Experiencia positiva: Service itself was great. Everyone was attentive, patient, and worked well with my scared pup. Only reason I'm giving 4 instead of 5 stars is the pricing. My girl's estimate for her dental cleaning on the high side was close to $2,400 which compared to past dental cleanings and others who had this done elsewhere seems pretty high. This is with 2 potential extractions. We have not had the procedure, so I will update the review once the procedure has been completed with the price. For a wellness visit, urine test, nail trim, rabies vaccine, and 3 different meds (pain, steroid cream, & antibiotics) with a new patient 25$ discount and after I signed up for there Paw comprehensive program my total yesterday was roughly 380$.

Experiencia fantástica: I’ve been a long time East Side Milwaukee resident (since 2005!) and I have always loved every visit to Small Animal Hospital. The staff at the desk is so so helpful and friendly on the phone, the vet techs always are gentle and sweet with my animals and the vets all know their stuff. They are so thorough, patient and empathetic! All of my dogs over the years felt at ease with the staff. They have lots of treats on hand and make a big fuss over how cute your pet is (flattery will get you everywhere with my dog). You can tell everyone there all truly love animals, but I am amazed at how they work with us humans too. As long as I have pets I will trust the staff at Small Animal Hospital to provide their care. As far as pricing goes, no vet is cheap (and that’s just part of having animals *HEAVY SIGH*) BUT they take care credit, and have always been great working with me when I was super strapped in the past. Konnor, Josh, and Matteo all helped us at one point and were nothing short of five stars. Dr. Vogel gave totally of her time and insightful and useful insights. We have benefitted by the staff of Small Animal Hospital over the last nearly 30 years of their care for our 4 standard poodles. Every other place I called was either two weeks out for a life-threatening condition, too expensive, or wouldn't give me an estimate and insisted on a consult to do ANYTHING. They heard me, gave me an appointment for the next day, gave me an estimate upfront, and hugged me when I came to pick him up. This place has the most important thing any business like this needs: empathy and compassion. Dr. Neuses truly lives up to her name, and Cathy was so wonderfully comforting and caring over the phone. It was such a hard choice and they were there to support me through the whole thing. After everything was said and done I could see the emotion in the vets eyes. Experiencia positiva: The doctors and staff at the Small Animal Hospital really care about your furry family members. There is a great level of compassion shown by all of the staff. Our vet, Dr. Neuses, contacted us by phone with test results, recommendations for home care, and just to see how our cat was doing. The only negative aspect of this clinic I can speak of is the email advertising to buy pet care, food and products that appear in my inbox several times a week. I find that it slightly tarnished an otherwise fine vet clinic.

I got to stay with my dog the whole time and they were very kind to him and made him feel as comfortable as possible. We had a good discussion kibble recommendations and I felt very comfortable asking questions. Dr. Nathan always shows my dogs lots of love and the vet techs are really nice too. The vets always answer my concerns and give recommendations at different price points so that you can try to make your dog more comfortable and healthier on any budget.

My own vet couldn’t get me in/wouldn’t prioritize it but Small Animal Hospital was able to help. They were patient with my traumatized pup and everyone knew the situation and treated him with caution as he was still pretty shook up. I’m changing vets and only using Small Animal Hospital going forward. They didn’t pressure me to spend excessive amounts of money when it wasn’t necessary and were beyond helpful. Truly the best experience I’ve ever had at the vet. Way above and beyond.

The veterinarian that I saw the last few times for my cats, Dr Neuss, is very knowledgeable and personable and it was very nice working with her.the front desk personnel are also excellent and helpful especially Jackie.

He can be a bit anxious in the car, but when he realizes that Sm An Hsp is our destination he actually chills out. So HIS recommendation would be two thumbs up—if he had opposable thumbs.

I have two cats, and I’ve been bringing one of them here for about 3 years. We discovered a while back that he has food allergies, and after their food recommendations, my cat’s health has significantly improved. Booking is incredibly easy, the staff is always accommodating and friendly (even in the age of being chronically understaffed), vets and vet staff are always incredibly informative, the clinic is attractive and clean, there is easy parking, AND you hopefully get the pleasure of meeting Kismet, the clinic cat. I feel privileged to be a regular client here, and I trust them wholeheartedly to make the right decisions for my pets.

Vets are knowledgeable, thoughtful and thoroughly professional while also being kind and supportive. All other staff from front desk to techs are amazing. We’d give 10 stars if we could!

Experiencia fantástica: the staff and vets here are wonderful! They truly care about companion animals and their owners. They saved our dog's life when he was hit by a car - staying long after their closing time to care for him and make sure he got to the Animal Emergency Center safely and stabilized. They provide wonderful care and although they might not be the cheapest in town but isn't the unconditional love you get from your pet worth a bit more? I wouldn't hesitate to recommend them and bring all my future companion animals to them!

Not even 24 hours has passed, and this? REALLY? Office manage tells me it was sent by corporate. Some big, soulless corporation has just stabbed me in the stomach while I'm in the middle of grieving. This hospital is now part of a corporate chain. Beware.

This past visit, Dr Nathan did an amazing job explaining everything and laying out different diagnostic/treatment options in a way that was very clear and easy to understand. We had made an appointment to use our Paw Plan benefits before they expired and the staff went above and beyond to ensure that we were able to use all the benefits that we were entitled to. First and foremost, I was impressed by how efficient the staff was in getting us an appointment before our benefits expired. This showed that they truly care about their patients and their well-being. Upon arriving at the hospital, we were greeted with a warm and inviting atmosphere. The waiting area was clean and well-maintained, making us feel comfortable and at ease. Dr. Henthorn was the veterinarian who attended to us and I must say, she was extremely knowledgeable and understanding. It was evident that she truly cares about the animals she treats and has a passion for her job. During the check-up, Jango had to undergo a urine analysis, blood work, a stool sample, and a rabies vaccine. The staff at the hospital handled him with care and made sure he was comfortable throughout the process. They were gentle and compassionate, which helped ease my worries as a pet owner. Overall, I couldn't be happier with the experience we had at the Small Animal hospital. From the warm and welcoming staff to the knowledgeable and caring veterinarian, everything was top-notch. I highly recommend this hospital to all pet owners who want the best care for their furry friends. He is a very senior cat and now has multiple health problems and the advice, treatment and my concern about financing was definitely part of the visit. I saw Dr. Greseth but Dr. Bennett is great too. In addition, the techs & receptionists are also SUPER. It's made all the difference in the world and their care is I'm sure, helping to keep my kitty alive longer than I've ever had a cat live (18 yrs). So, a HUGE THANK YOU, Small Animal Hospital.

Experiencia fantástica: Yesterday we took our dog in for an assessment of his skin condition that he has had for quite some time, and I am amazed and very satisfied at how caring and kind the staffs were from the receptionists to vet tech, and veterinarians that worked there. We were met with Jasmine and Dr. Nathan Greseth. Both were very patient and took their time in assessing Thoui's skin condition, and cleaning the wounds. Dr. Greseth was very thorough in coming up with a treatment plan for Thoui and made sure that any questions we have regarding Thoui's care was answered. This made us very confident that we have made the right choice to put our dog's health in their care. The staffs interaction with Thoui definitely showed how compassionate they are in caring for animals both big and small.

She is a very anxious and has had recurring health issues, so we frequently visit Small Animal Hospital. Given these frequent visits, I’ve brought my cat to each vet at the clinic at least once. I have been impressed by all of them and appreciate and trust the vets and technicians to provide the best care for my girl. In addition to the vets and vet techs, the front desk staff are very knowledgeable and accommodating. Can’t recommend this place enough!

Experiencia fantástica: This is the best vet out there. All of the doctors are knowledgeable, kind, and generous with their time. Dr. Greseth has been our primary and the time he spent into helping us identify our first dog, Hank’s, allergies was above and beyond. When we got a second dog, Josie, recently, they fit us in when she was struggling with firm stools, identifying a pretty aggressive worm situation. Most recently, I had to take Hank to a different vet for an anal gland rupture bc it was the weekend. He was not acting right after his surgery and the other vet blew me off, discounting my concerns. I called Small Animal and they were alarmed by his behavior and fit us in, identifying that he was in pain and prescribing more medication to make him comfortable. He came home a different dog, back to his old self. These folks truly care about their patients, provide so much information to help you know what’s going on and to make informed decisions about their care. I will be a Small Animal Hospital lifer.

I’ve taken my cat and dog there for care for five years. My cat had major dental work done here and they cared for my dog through her final days and end of life and were so sympathetic and supportive through that whole process.
