Experiencia fantástica: We've had two of our animals seen here. We've experienced great care and communication. Options were presented and time was taken to ensure that the best decision for our animals were made. Great appreciation to this Emergency Veterinary Hospital and the doctors and staff we have worked with.

Experiencia negativa: We took our dog to this facility and right from the start the girl at front desk seemed to “not care” at all. We had to repeat our name and info multiple times and when she printed paper it was still wrong. Fast forward, they took our dog back and put us in a private room, I have been to multiple emergency vets unfortunately over the years and this has never been done before, but the vet tech came in said vitals were fine and doctor would see us soon, we proceeded to sit there for 2 hours without an update, so I went up front and then was relayed false information regarding tests done on our dog that we had not been updated about, then 2 mins goes by and another girl says that tests were in fact not ran. But then couldn’t give us a solid time line on when we would be seen, so we opted to leave because we were frustrated with service, I understand that some animals had more critical conditions but at least keep pet owners updated throughout the process instead of sitting them in a room and not saying a single word. Upon check out the same girl from front desk basically threw the clip board and paper in my fiancés lap and said sign this please and we can release your dog. ALL IN ALL! Please think twice about using this service. It might be more beneficial for you to drive an extra 15-30mins to different location rather then give this place the business as they seem to not care and are very “unorganized” and very “unprofessional”

Cody thank you for taking the time to share your feedback. We’re very sorry to hear about your experience and understand how frustrating and concerning it can be when there is confusion around the timeline for pending diagnostics when it involves your pet’s health.

Clear communication is something we take seriously, and it’s evident that we did not meet that standard in your case. Your feed back is valuable and helps us identify where we need to improve, so thank you for your honest feed back.

Their staff is super great and they gave Stella the best treatment I have ever seen. I will use them forever!! This is her last night laying in her bed with her toys. Experiencia negativa: This vet let my mom’s dog out on a slip leash and he got loose and got run over by a car in their care. My poor mother is devastated. They never should have let him outside, and even if they were going to, they should have ensured it was secured. After this happened, they refused to speak with us. They told us management would call. They wouldn’t even have an informed provider explain their cremation services. The poor receptionist had to try to explain the options which she didn’t even know thoroughly because no one else from the practice would talk to us. I can’t overemphasize the negligence, and then they didn’t even take responsibility for what they did. I wouldn’t recommend this vet to anyone.

Experiencia negativa: I brought my 5-month-old kitten here after she swallowed a shoelace. She had vomited up most of it, but about 2 inches (including the aglet) were still missing. We knew she had eaten it within the last two hours, and she was acting completely normal. From the beginning, I explained that string and fabric typically do not show up well on X-rays and that this had happened before under nearly identical circumstances. In the prior incident, my regular urgent care vet induced vomiting within the same timeframe, which directly resolved the issue without imaging. At this visit, I was told X-rays were required first to check for a blockage or to visualize the string. Ultrasound was mentioned as an alternative, but induced vomiting was not presented as an option. As expected, the X-rays showed nothing, and they confirmed she was acting normal, which aligned with what I had described. The visit took over two hours and cost $366. At my usual urgent care vet (which was closed at that time 9:30pm), the assessment and induced vomiting previously cost about $200 and addressed the issue directly. More importantly, I left this ER visit still uncertain whether she ingested the remaining piece, since string would not appear on X-ray and vomiting was never attempted. Even attempting induced vomiting first, and escalating if needed would have provided clarity and peace of mind. What stood out most was that the care felt protocol-driven rather than personalized. The specific context; recent ingestion, no symptoms, and prior successful treatment, did not seem to meaningfully influence the plan. Medicine, for pets as much as for people, should involve clinical judgment tailored to the individual situation rather than a rigid sequence of steps. I will continue to use my usual urgent care vet whenever possible. However, for true emergencies in the future, I will likely seek a different emergency veterinary provider.

Experiencia fantástica: I brought my cat here for an ultrasound. I was able to make a next day appointment for the ultrasound without an emergency visit. The price I was billed was less than what they had quoted, which was substantially less than a few of the other emergency vets I had called. Unfortunately the outcome for my cat was not good. But everyone I dealt with was very kind and I felt confident that Snaggle Gus had received great care.

Experiencia fantástica: We took our sick, senior cat here for a semi-emergency. I called a couple of times first, everyone I spoke to was kind and seemed knowledgeable. When we arrived, they took our Ginger back immediately and got her triaged. After getting Ginger's history, we were told it would be a little while as they were busy and had some critical patients. Eventually, the vet came in and discussed Ginger and we agreed to leave her overnight so an endoscope could be performed the next day. Throughout the following day, we received multiple text updates on Ginger's condition, as well as a phone call from the vet that did the endoscope. Communication was great, after the call they continued to text updates and even answered questions I had a few days after discharging Ginger, who is doing great now. One additional note: many of the emergency vets in our area have either closed or stopped being open 24/7 because they can't find staff to work the overnight shifts, including doctors. When an emergency hits at night (we arrived at 11 PM), I expect it to take awhile - especially if the vet is dealing with critical patients. So, yes, we were there for a while but I expected to be, and I didn't feel like it was excessive or that we were forgotten about.

Experiencia negativa: We took my dog in to the Emergency Veterinary Hospital yesterday after he injured his leg. Since it was on a Sunday, his regular vet office was closed, so we chose this clinic since it was open 24 hours. We went in the the office, and after standard paperwork, they took my dog in the back "so they could keep him for observation". I have had dogs my whole life and never knew of any vet clinics who did this, but I obliged. They then put my mother-in-law and I in a private room (which I don't know why my dog couldn't be with us), and left us in there for hours. I would periodically come out to check up on my dog and they would give me some answer saying that they had "critical cases" before us. I only saw two other people come in after us, and their dogs seemed okay, with the exception of one animal I saw carried out to its owner in a box, deceased, which was traumatizing. After 4 hours of waiting, a vet tech FINALLY came into our room (at this point it was 9:45PM), and told us she could try to Xray my dog, but depending on the "critical patients that might come in", that might take 30 minutes, or it could take hours more. I asked if the doctor had seen my dog, and she gave vague answers. I finally lost patience and asked for my dog and I wanted to leave. I luckily had dog pain meds from a previous incident so was able to keep him comfortable until I got into my regular vet clinic this morning. I feel like this Emergency Vet Hospital take the dogs as collateral so people can't just leave the facility. I also feel like there was not a doctor on site, because in the 4 hours we were there, I never once saw anyone except the 3 vet techs. Please be wary of this place.

Becky, thank you for your feed back. We’re truly sorry to hear about your experience and understand how upsetting this must have been. Long wait times are frustrating, especially when you’re already dealing with the stress of a veterinary visit. While emergencies can sometimes impact our schedule, we recognize that your time matters, and we need to do better in communicating delays.

We are especially concerned to hear about the situation involving another client’s pet. We strive to handle all sensitive moments with the utmost care, discretion, and respect, and it’s clear we fell short in this instance. That is not the experience we want for any of our clients.

Experiencia fantástica: My dog ate a bag of nutella cookies. Brought her in and they induced vomiting promptly. We did not need to wait to see the vet otherwise I got the impression we would have been there another 2 or 3 hours. Policies were clearly stated up front. Cost was a little over 200 bucks. Staff was professional. Thankful to have this business in our community.

Experiencia fantástica: Our dog had a severe allergic reaction. Her eyes and mouth had massive swelling she had hives on her trunk and legs and was vomiting. The emergency vet near us would not see her because they were at capacity. We drove 45 minutes to Ann Arbor and they took her from us immediately and gave her steroid and Benadryl injections. They observed her for 2 hours and sent her home with steroids. We were both surprised at how affordable the visit was. We thought we would pay triple what we did. Dr. Brown ( I think that was her name ) was wonderful and answered all our questions. This place was awesome

We were blubbering messes and they didn’t treat us like we were crazy, they were so comforting. They understood our financial strife, and explained to us which tests would tell them the most info and they really worked with us. They sent us home with a couple of meds, advice, and some food. Experiencia negativa: Very dishonest I live 2 and a half hours away I talked on the phone with them before going about pricing and if they take payments.. they gave a low quote and they take payments.. We took the ferret there for surgery at 7:00pm they called my 17 year olds phone number 11:40pm that night demanding 2,000 right now or they would not help!! I ask about payments they said no 2,000 NOW.. so I got a credit card out and paid.. next day around 12:00 pm they said the ferret was in such bad shape I may not want to complete with surgery So I said ok.. They went on to say if I want him creamated I need to pay another 550.00 Before his ashes would be sent. SMH HOW LOW LIFE

Experiencia negativa: I was pretty upset with this place after they misdiagnosed my cat twice. He was having trouble walking and they assumed because his bladder was full that he was urinary blocked and that's why he couldn't walk. Luckily, he peed before they put a catheter in him. Then, they said that he was constipated and that's why he couldn't move around well. Turns out, he just hurt his back playing outside and needed to take it easy. They told me this 1000$ dollars later after a second veterinarians opinion. So, it seems to me there are some incompetent vets here but not all of them and they really are trying to do their best under a lot of pressure.

Experiencia fantástica: I want to give a shout out to Dr Jayne and vet tech, Michelle!!! My bird started stargazing after a night fright. I had to cancel his apt at his regular vet in Ohio because of the snow and wind and don't like tge drive on 23 during this weather. I took him to EVH, and we had to eliminate liver issues before starting him on anti-inflamatory. I know that vets aren't fans of drawing blood on tiny birds, but Michelle assured me she could do it, and she did it, with no trauma to my bird. I hope she knows how grateful I am for her expertise because I admit, I was worried. It all went well and he got his pain meds, hopefully, on the rd to recovery. I appreciate their patience with putting up with me. He's vocalizing and a bit better, already. Here he is, 2 1/2 hours after his pain meds Lynne

Experiencia negativa: I truly wish I could give zero stars. This was one of the most frustrating, emotionally draining, and disappointing experiences I’ve ever had with a veterinary clinic—especially one that claims to offer emergency care. I brought my dog in during what was clearly a serious situation. She was lethargic, not eating or drinking, losing weight, and clearly not herself. As any pet owner knows, when you go to an emergency vet, you are already scared, exhausted, and desperate for answers. Unfortunately, this clinic took full advantage of that vulnerability. From the moment I arrived, everything felt disorganized and dismissive. I waited for hours—late into the night/early morning—with little to no communication. No one explained what was happening, what the plan was, or how long things would take. I had to repeatedly ask questions just to get the most basic information, and even then, most of my questions were either brushed off or left completely unanswered. Despite paying a significant amount of money, I walked away with no real answers, no clear diagnosis, and no sense that my dog was actually helped. Tests were vaguely referenced, but nothing was explained in a way that made sense or felt thorough. I was essentially handed a bill, given minimal information, and sent on my way—still worried, still confused, and still without help. What upset me most was the complete lack of compassion and accountability. Emergency vet visits are not cheap, and I fully understand that—but when you’re charging premium prices, the bare minimum should be communication, transparency, and genuine care. Instead, I felt rushed, ignored, and treated like a transaction rather than a concerned pet parent seeking help for a sick animal. To make matters worse, I left feeling like my time and money were wasted, and that I now had to start all over again somewhere else just to get proper care. That is not what anyone expects from an emergency clinic. If you’re considering this place, please think twice. When you’re already stressed and scared for your pet, the last thing you need is to feel scammed, dismissed, and left in the dark. I regret coming here and would not recommend this clinic to anyone looking for genuine emergency care, answers, or compassion. To reply to your comment: I am not disputing the timeline of events outlined in your message, nor am I disputing that treatment options, financial limitations, and discharge were discussed. My concern—and the reason I continued to ask questions—has been the lack of clear, understandable explanations regarding Hazel’s care. While documentation may reflect that information was “reviewed” or “provided,” that does not mean it was explained in a way that was clear, complete, or responsive to the questions being asked. Repeating timelines and chart language does not address the core issue: I was seeking clarity, not challenging authority or attempting to escalate conflict. At no point was I informed that questions could not be answered, nor was I advised that continued requests for explanation would jeopardize our ability to receive future care. Instead, my attempts to understand what was done and why appear to have been characterized as escalation, and the veterinarian–client relationship was terminated rather than those questions being addressed. This is the heart of my concern. Terminating a client relationship in response to reasonable requests for clarification creates the impression that care is being withdrawn to avoid further explanation, rather than to preserve professionalism or safety. This correspondence is not intended to escalate matters. It is intended to document that my actions were focused on understanding my dog’s care, and that clarity was never adequately provided.

Emergency Veterinary Hospital
Emergency Veterinary Hospital

Mrs. Presley,

Thank you for sharing your feedback. We’re sorry that your experience did not meet your expectations. Emergency veterinary visits can be stressful and emotional, and we take all concerns regarding patient care and communication seriously.

Following your review, our hospital conducted an internal review of the visit, including the medical record. According to those records, your dog arrived at approximately 1:00 a.m. and was triaged promptly. Diagnostic testing, which was approved, identified a foreign body obstruction, and treatment options—including emergency surgery and alternative inpatient care—were discussed with Mr. Presley. An offer was also made for the attending veterinarian to speak with you directly by phone, which was declined.

We understand that unexpected medical situations can create significant emotional and financial strain. Our team recognizes that during highly emotional moments, people may express frustration or concern in ways they might not otherwise intend. For this reason, we made multiple efforts to engage in respectful, solution-focused conversations to address your questions and explain your dog’s care. When financing options were not feasible, our focus remained on your dog’s immediate wellbeing, and supportive care, including donated subcutaneous fluids, was provided to help stabilize your dog until follow-up care with your primary veterinarian could be arranged later that morning.

Discharge instructions were reviewed in person, and your dog was discharged at approximately 3:05 a.m., reflecting a total visit time of about two hours. While emergency situations can feel overwhelming, especially during overnight hours, our team remains committed to providing timely, compassionate care with clear communication.

Our hospital is also committed to maintaining a professional, respectful, and collaborative veterinarian–client relationship to support appropriate medical decision-making. While we are always willing to engage in calm, respectful dialogue—particularly during emotionally difficult situations—there are limits to what can be addressed once communications escalate to threats such as the ones sent via email today.

We appreciate the opportunity to clarify the care provided and sincerely wish your dog continued recovery.

Experiencia fantástica: I want to thank the entire team at Ann Arbor Emergency Vet for the incredible care they provided to my 10-year-old Dalmatian this past weekend. She began showing symptoms concerning for a possible GI bleed late Sunday night, and as things progressed, I didn’t feel comfortable waiting until her primary vet opened in the morning. From start to finish, the staff were patient, kind, and completely reasonable. They explained our options clearly and never made me feel pressured or guilty for wanting to stabilize her and then take her primary vet later that day given several co-morbidities they we are already managing. Wait times were very reasonable for an emergency clinic, and while I had braced myself for the worst in terms of cost, it was actually much more manageable than I expected. Overall, the care was 10/10. If we ever face another urgent or emergent situation, I would not hesitate to return.

Experiencia fantástica: I’ve taken my dog twice and my cat once. All 3 times were for open wounds and all 3 needed stitches. Total time was under 8 hours each time. It took about 5 minutes to check in, less than 30 minutes to triage them, and then a hour to get a call from the doctor. After 2-4 additional hours I had my pet back and all fixed up. The staff were friendly, professional and knowledgeable. All the visits were during weekends or a holiday and the total cost for each individual visit was under $600 (including meds for after care). Great place all around and couldn’t be more thankful to have a place like this around.

Experiencia negativa: Would give 0 stars if that was a option. They told us they would call with updates and we had to call them because they never called us. Out of 3 days stay. They quoted us one price then another then charged us over 1100 from what we discussed as we went along with their services. We were told it was around 1700 and we had already prepaid 1200 so our total should have been between 500 and 700. And upon coming to pick up they fought with us saying we owe 1400 on top of the 1200 we already payed! This place is a scam! They did repeat testing that they said she didnt need I will never come back here again!

Kendra, thank you for the feedback. It does appear that our medical team updated your family several times during your stay with us and that estimates for care were provided and approved. Unfortunately it sounds like there may have been a communication breakdown or misunderstanding somewhere and for that we are sorry. Emergency Veterinary Hospital does our best to provide quality care to every patient, and keep every client involved in the decision making for that care and we apologize if you feel that this was not the case for your family.

Experiencia fantástica: Dr. Levy treated us and our sweet chinchilla with care and respect. Her passion for her work and strong knowledge base was clear from the start. While our chinchilla unfortunately did not make it I am confident that Dr. Levy and her team did everything in their power to care for her. Would certainly recommend.

Experiencia fantástica: I highly recommend! I've never had to make an emergency appointment for my dog before and they made it simple. They made a bad experience wonderful! When I went to pay I was so nervous because it was an emergency appointment and normally emergency visits are outrageous. In this case it wasn't and more affordable than if I would have taken my dog to our primary veterinarian. The facility is also a bonus. You have your own room while waiting. The facility was very clean and they also provided complimentary beverages.

Experiencia negativa: I took my dog to this emergency Vet because she needed some IV fluids. I told the intake person that she was having a procedure in the morning at my regular vet and that she hadn't been drinking anything She said they needed to evaluate her first and that they would take care of her told me somebody would see me shortly ?? 3 hours in nothing i went to talk to intake person they said again someone would come in to see me in a few minutes 1 hours later someone finally came to talk with me i ask how was she doing after the iv the person said we didn't give her one and nothing to drink the doctor need look at her first before giving her anything so i asked what did you do her response was i have been monitoring her and the doctor would get a plan together soon..... I finally was done and demanded my dog back and went on my way but they wanted to make sure I signed a waiver saying I took her. I would steer clear of this place very unprofessional.

Thank you for your feedback. Emergency Veterinary Hospital operates as a true emergency facility, and as such we triage patient upon arrival and more critical patients may need more urgent attention. This does not mean that any patient is more important than yours, just more critical in that moment. Each patient needs full evaluation with our doctor before our medical team can begin performing any treatments, such as IV fluids. We do our best to keep all clients updated regarding wait times and we do understand if someone is unable to wait. We are sorry that we could not provide care for you that day in a time frame that worked for your family.

But that night we knew on the way there. As she was gasping. For air the time it took to get from Pinvkney.Michigan to Ann Arbor michigan was dreadful. We got there to find out that she had a heart murmor and her trachea was collapsing every time she took a breath. Needless to say , we did the unthinkable and we had her put to sleep peacefully in my arms. They were so kind to wrap her up in her blaket and her in a nice box , so we could take her home for her burial. I want to thank them for their wonderful hospitality and carrying and understanding the emotional moments we were going through at that time. Thank you for being open 24 hrs. Experiencia fantástica: Genuinely the best emergency veterinary clinic out there. My mom is Dr. Ruland (the owner) and she told me not to write this review because it’s of course biased, but I do actually have a crazy story, and since I get to see behind the scenes I have a better understand of how the clinic works. My cat had some severe issues throughout his life, and he would’ve died sooner if not for Dr. Ruland’s amazing veterinary skills. He had diabetes which affected him most of his life, and because of it he entered multiple organ failure TWICE. Yet, despite all of this, my mom was able to save him both times. He sadly passed from a really aggressive brain tumor, but because of her work, he was able to live to almost 13 years, which for a diabetic cat is insane. I also would like to say that behind the scenes whenever I am there, there is never any laziness. I am genuinely impressed how many patients the clinic can handle, and almost if not every employee loved working there. Still with all of the chaos, the client interactions I see are always so kind, I never see anybody leaving in a sour mood. But it is an emergency clinic, there are going to be a lot of emotions, and EVH does such a good job of helping these people with those emotions. Also, Dr. Ruland does so much for this clinic. She is the most hardworking person I have ever seen, and is always thinking of ways to help her clients, employees, and most importantly, the animals. I cannot emphasize enough how hard she works. She sacrifices so much for the clinic, and she genuinely loved veterinary medicine (which makes for a great doctor), and she is extremely knowledgeable (to someone who doesn’t know that much about veterinary medicine) Love you mom, keep up the hard work!

Experiencia fantástica: My parents brought our dog in to EVH last week due to rapid breathing and whining that we thought was due to him being in pain from a previous on going leg injury. The tech talked to us about his health history and behavior and answered questions we had. She let us know what kind of tests they were planning to run and that they wanted to focus on reasons for his rapid breathing before addressing the pain in his leg. The vet came in, Dr. Hunt, and spoke to us about what they found from the tests. We were devastated to find out that he had fluid around his lungs and there were tons of rapidly growing tumors in his lungs. He discussed our options with us, which unfortunately were limited due to the progressed state of the tumors. He also answered questions we had and explained that unfortunately, cancers and tumors in animals can progress rapidly like this in as little as six months. We made the hard choice to say good bye to our beloved dog. They set us up in a private visitation room where they had treats and other items available to give him, letting us spend as much time as we needed in there with him as we said good bye. We are heartbroken. Saying good bye to a pet is never easy but it's especially hard when it comes out of no where. The staff, tech, and Dr. Hunt were all very kind and patient with us during our visit. Our pets are family and we feel they took excellent care of ours. The only thing I wish could have been different was if we were able to wait with him in a room, whether in a larger room with others or a private room. I understand their reason for why we couldn't, it's just something that would have meant a lot to us if they were set up differently. (On a side note, there are a lot of reviews/comments about them being over priced. I had similar services done when I had to say good bye to my cat at her primary vets office here in Ann Arbor last year and the price was double. My parents live in Brighton where their primary vet is and we were all surprised the bill was not much higher. )

Experiencia negativa: Euthanasia is meant to be something peaceful and personal and my last memory of my pet alive will forever be tainted by the experience I had here. I expected professionalism from staff, not a complete lack of urgency despite calling ahead. Instead of telling me I "should have filled out the paperwork we told you to over the phone" you should have been taking my gasping for life baby back to be taken out of his misery, AND we weren't told about any paperwork over the phone. He almost passed in the lobby, gasping and choking while we begged to be seen. Just for them to give us a room and come ask for ALL of our information again that we had just given at the from desk BEFORE they could help him. Med assistant starts getting snippy with us for being upset about how things are being handled. Add another 10 minutes of my baby gasping for air. And then taking him in a hurry because you're angry so we can't even say goodbye without yelling? Just because he was small aka not a cat/dog doesn't mean he didn't deserve a speedy and gentle passing. I have had rats for 8 years or longer, I work closely with other veterinary professionals. there are no excuses for any of this. We were not even offered a chance to speak with the vet.

Experiencia negativa: I used to feel a lot of relief that there was a 24/seven emergency vet down the road just in case anything ever happened, but after being informed by my primary veterinary office (ranked one of the best in the county) notified me that this location will not treat my pet without having records from my primary first….but I come here for EMERGENCY care only!? It may not be possible to receive records from my primary veterinary office in the middle of the night. Seems like a CYA business decision that will waste time and delay treating a sick pet.

Emergency Veterinary Hospital
Emergency Veterinary Hospital

Hi Julie. Thank you for communicating your concerns to us. We understand how stressful it is to even imagine a pet emergency — and we appreciate that you want fast, reliable care when it matters most.

Emergency Veterinary Hospital continues to proudly provide 24/7 emergency care to all pets, including those without prior medical records. We never turn patients away due to missing documentation, and our team is trained to triage and stabilize pets regardless of their referral status.

Occasionally, we may request records from a primary care provider if it helps guide treatment — but this is never a barrier to care, especially in urgent cases. Your pet’s wellbeing is our priority.

In rare instances, when professional communication or collaboration with outside parties becomes inconsistent or disruptive, we may adjust our protocols to protect our team and maintain focus on patient care. These decisions are not made lightly and are always guided by our commitment to high standards, respectful environments, and clinical excellence.

We understand that conflicting information can cause concern, and we welcome the opportunity to speak with you directly if you have any questions about our policies or your pet’s emergency care.

Thank you for being an advocate for your pet’s health.

Experiencia negativa: Our beloved dog became quite ill early Thursday morning. We took him straight to this emergency hospital where we were told it would be a 6-8 hour wait before he could be assessed by a vet. The unfriendly lady at the front desk didn't even look at him. We left and waited 30 minutes for our regular vet office to open. Fortunately they took him in as an urgent case. He was critically ill and died less than 7 hours later. The slogan of this hospital is "We'll be here when you need us most." What is the point of a 24/7 emergency room when you cannot get an immediate, quick assessment to see how seriously ill your pet is and so they can triage cases?

Vicky Publicada en Google 7 months ago

Experiencia negativa: I wish I had trusted my gut the moment I walked in. Something felt off immediately—cold energy, disorganized vibe, and a lack of genuine care. I should have turned around right then. Instead, I stayed, and it cost me time, money, and emotional stress. This place may call itself an emergency hospital, but the urgency and compassion you'd expect in a crisis were nowhere to be found. The staff seemed detached, the process was confusing, and I left feeling worse than when I arrived. If you're in a vulnerable moment with your pet, this is not the environment you want to be in. Please—don’t waste your time or money here. There are other clinics in the area that treat both pets and people with the respect and clarity they deserve. - Rude and unprofessional staff with zero communication skills. - They took my pet to the back and casually told us, “You can go home—we’ll call you.” Excuse me? What do you mean? I’m not leaving my pet behind, and why are you even suggesting that? No further explanation whatsoever. RED FLAG. - We waited over an hour with no updates. - The receptionist (Katie) told the customer after us it would be a 4-hour wait—yet never told us anything. - The entire process was painfully slow, even just waiting for an invoice. - When I said I wanted to leave, they stalled for 30 minutes before releasing my pet—who had a muzzle on the entire time! That is not ok. - I still don’t know what conditions he was kept in or how other animals were treated back there, but I know my pet had no water. It felt chaotic and uncaring. This is not a place you want to be during an emergency. If you love your pet and value transparency, compassion, and basic professionalism—go elsewhere. I hope this helps others make a safer choice!

We’re truly sorry to hear about your recent experience and want to extend our sincere condolences for the loss of your sugar glider. We understand how heartbreaking this must be, especially given your dedication as a breeder.

This past holiday weekend brought an unusually high volume of emergency cases, and while we do our best to answer every call, there are times when our phone lines are overwhelmed. In those cases, our system automatically sends a text message with instructions on how to check in online. This helps us triage patients en route and ensure we know who is on the way, even when we can’t answer every call immediately.

Regarding exotic animal care, while we do see certain species, our ability to treat specific animals can change based on the availability of our doctors with appropriate expertise. We do apologize that this was not communicated more clearly during your visit.

Your feedback about phone responsiveness is heard, and we will review ways to improve this process moving forward. Again, we are very sorry for your experience and appreciate you bringing these concerns to our attention.

Sincerely,
Emergency Veterinary Hospital

Experiencia negativa: Jack at the front desk was the most rude person I’ve ever met. Our dog was very sick and we wanted to help her so we brought her in as an emergency and as soon as we walked in Jack had an attitude asking if we have signed in online, we already did and got her in they took her to the back and we were offered either a room or we could sit in our car. We were distressed as they told us the options either $5,000-9,000 in surgery or we could put her down for $500. In this we did not want to put her down, but also we couldn’t afford surgery and Jack was very rude with us crying and trying to figure out how to pay as she was rolling her eyes, heavily sighing in annoyance, and giving us dirty looks. Any time we had come back in after gathering ourselves she had a very rude tone with us and was always looking annoyed at us. When I had to go to the front desk to tell them we made our decision she had looked very annoyed and rolled her eyes at me when I asked for her to get our primary vet that was taking care of our dog. It was a very stressful and sad day to have to say goodbye to our dog. The back staff like Bella and our doctor were amazing they helped us through it; however, the front desk staff was not friendly at all.

Experiencia fantástica: We rushed our cat to the emergency vet after he had a severe reaction to a vaccine earlier that day. He was in critical condition. With the help of the skilled veterinary team, he made a full recovery after two nights at the hospital. I'm certain he wouldn't have survived without them. I'm very thankful!

Experiencia negativa: 1st time in 2018...rude to our family, unprofessional & billed us 584.00 for NOTHING. WE ended up taking our dog to Animal Hospital on Packard. Today...New puppy was having issues..small seizures..etc...they waited until we were 1/2 hour into our trip to A2 from Adrian...and they refused treatment unless I paid the 584.00 up front. Packard for the win. DO NOT GO HERE. THEY ARE UNPROFESSIONAL, SNOBS AND THEIR VET HAS A CHIP ON HER SHOULDER...BEST ADVICE...DONT GOBHERE & TELL EVERYONE YOU KNOW NOT TO. PACKARD RD ANIMAL HOSPITAL MUCH MUCH BETTER...

Hi Kelli,

We’re sorry to hear that your experience with us—both in the past and more recently—left you feeling disappointed.

To clarify, like most veterinary hospitals, we do require that any outstanding balance be paid before new treatment can be provided. In this case, the $584 balance from your previous visit needed to be resolved before we could proceed. We understand this can be frustrating, especially in an urgent situation, but this policy helps us ensure fairness and consistency for all of our clients.

Our team works hard to provide compassionate care to pets and clear communication to their humans (even when the news isn’t what they want to hear). We’re always open to feedback—but we also stand by our policies and our people.

We’re genuinely glad your puppy was able to receive care elsewhere and hope they’re doing well. Should you wish to discuss your account or your past experience further, we’d be happy to talk with you directly.

Wishing you and your pets the best,
Emergency Veterinary Hospital

Experiencia negativa: If your issue is not critical, don’t bother: you’ll be in for a really long wait. If your issue is critical, don’t expect to be able to wait with your pet, as the comfortable and well-appointed waiting area is not for customer use. Definitely don’t expect to be able to say goodbye to your beloved pet if the worst should happen. When we returned to pick up the remains of our pet, the receptionist was laughing and joking on the phone. Not a good look.

Experiencia fantástica: I was there on 8/10/25, coming from Toledo due to needing a place that was open 24 hours as it was about 12:30-1am & unfortunately, my beautiful cat Chloe passed away as I was pulling into the parking lot. I do want to thank the staff as even though I didn’t have a chance to receive emergency care for her. They did help me with next steps, offered me care, empathy through my distress. They didn’t rush me and let me have my time to visit with her which I really appreciated <3

Experiencia fantástica: We had to put down our beloved bearded dragon the other day. He was in a critical state when we brought him in and they rushed him back to the vet right away. Unfortunately there was nothing they could do to save him but the staff was so professional and sweet. They were so gentle and caring to myself and my boyfriend while we were grieving. They made us a print of his feet and tail to take home, which was so nice of them and made us feel like we had something to remember him by. Thank you to the vet and vet techs for being so sweet!

Experiencia negativa: This place is only worried about your money unfortunately and not your pet. I understand some emergency’s are more than others but when my dog is shaking from pain on are hard as can be floor for 4 hours they had us wait with nothing to give her. The vet is so full of herself they dope my dog up so much she’s almost falling over so I am helping her stand as she as a hurt leg and the vet goes “ if he’s not listening I’m not going to keep educating” do you have a pet of your own cuz I don’t think you do or you’d realize what I was doing. Also she goes since my dog is dope up she can now walk on the foot “ I mean she can walk on her foot” yah I wonder why she’s a dog can’t say ouch. I’m tryna help my dog stand up since she was siting and back leg problem vet goes um excuse me but what is going on I replied with did you not just hear my dog yip tryna stand up I’m here for a hurt leg and that’s why I’m here. They say 30-40 mins somehow it takes longer than a hour for x rays? No one was to friendly except the one girl that put us Ina room. She comes back from x rays I’ve nvr seen a dog paint so hard before yes it was probably side effect anxiety etc but you’d think they would tell me hey she’ll be like this for a while it’s normal it’ll be good just one of the side effects but nah lol. Also she was absolutely terrified of anyone of the workers when she came from x rays perfectly fine with anyone that came in the room before hand after x ray why she tryna hide. Where’s the x ray pictures to ain’t that kinda weird? Oh and what does $400 get you you may ask for a hurt back leg some pain kills and anti-inflammation while I am still up with my dog at 2 am bc she’s crying in pain and they didn’t even wrap it with anything but listen guys “ I mean she can walk on it” rude people only want money and don’t care about your animals at all so thank you for scamming me of 400$ while my dog still has problems I get it’s the first night but they treated it like it wasn’t nothing at all but took my $400 as smiley as can be I gotcha thank you for helping my dog continue to yip and whine cuz her back leg I guess it wasn’t “ emergency” enough for them. I wish I could say what I truly wanna say but they’d delete it. If you must go here be with your animal at all times try your hardest idk what they do behind them closed doors but my dog didn’t like them at all. Again employees are worth about as much as you think and that vet to be so full of herself when I’m doing y’all’s job at that rate helping my dog best I can cuz wow she was still in pain. But aye “ she can walk on it “

Experiencia negativa: Leaving this under a alias incase I have to return, but the two front desk workers on Wednesday early morning/night shift (a younger guy and middle age woman) should not be working for or representing this business. Every phone call they received or disgruntled/nervous/agitated pet owner they encountered was a target of their gossip as other worried customers waited and listened to them complain about how people acted or reacted, talked crap about the staff working hard in the back to take care of the patients including the techs and vets. They complained about their jobs to no end, they seemed irritated when asked questions or answering phones. Imagine being there wondering if your pet is ok and listening to the 2 front desk workers cuss about incoming patients and calls and their own staff! The worst first impression this business could have had to be honest. It made me uncomfortable and made me question the ability of the staff to take care of my pet. I’m not sure why you would employ people who despise animals, people and their jobs that much. The one lady said she was fed up and done at least 10x. It was pretty pathetic. I get you work in a hectic and high intensity position but your also working with customers who are worried and under the possibility of losing a pet so maybe be more understanding and do better? It sounds like the front or the house and back of the house have a complex relationship and the whole waiting room got to hear about it.

Thank you, "Jasmine" for alerting us to this issue. We would agree that this is not only unprofessional of our front desk team, but is unacceptable and not in alignment with our standards here at EVH. We want to extend our sincere apologies that you had to experience that and witness that behavior. In order for us to adequately address this matter, while still allowing you to remain anonymous, would you be so kind as to confirm the date that you experienced/witnessed this? Experiencia negativa: I am heartbroken and deeply disappointed with the care our dog Brantley received at this clinic. He was seen for difficulty breathing, lethargy, and weight loss. Despite clear warning signs and concerning X-ray findings, we were told he had pneumonia and sent home with antibiotics and prednisone — no hospitalization, no urgency, and no further diagnostics recommended. After 10 days with no improvement, we sought a second opinion. The second vet reviewed the same X-rays and immediately said Brantley should have been hospitalized right away. They strongly suspected cancer, and unfortunately, they were right. Brantley passed shortly after due to advanced cancer that had already spread to his lungs. The first vet’s misdiagnosis cost us precious time, and quite possibly, his chance at comfort or a fighting chance. We trusted them with his life, and we were failed. I understand that not every illness is straightforward — but there was a lack of urgency, a lack of caution, and a lack of responsibility. If your pet shows serious symptoms, I urge you to get a second opinion. I wish we had.

Experiencia fantástica: Our senior Labrador retriever came in to this E.R. for the first time presenting with internal bleeding. The staff unfortunately confirmed our worst fears upon arrival and swiftly placed us in a room for a doctor to discuss our options. The doctor was extremely compassionate and very informative about our options going forward. He made sure to include a very thorough explanation as to what each option entailed financially for us and physically for our fur baby. The staff here was extremely compassionate about our unfortunate situation and were able to triage him accordingly. I appreciate their swift action, willingness to explain what our options were, and their never-ending compassion from the moment we stepped in the door from the moment we walked our despite never having been seen here before. Although this night had not turned out the way we had hoped, our experience here was very well-managed.

Experiencia negativa: DO NOT BRING YOUR PETS HERE I waited 6 hours and paid $600 for them to misdiagnose my very sick cat. By the time I took her into her regular vet because she wasnt getting better, she was on the verge of dying from severe pancreatitis. My vet was absolutely horrified and appalled they didn't test for Pancreatitis. It's an incredibly basic test that they never said anything about. They also said my cat was in 0 pain, despite the fact that pancreatitis is one of the most excruciating illnesses for cats. Furthermore, when I spoke with someone regarding the care she recieved, they proceeded to argue with me and tell me I was wrong. They even told me my vet (who saved her life) didn't treat her correctly.

Experiencia negativa: We brought our cat here because it was a Saturday and he wasn’t acting normal. He was also drooling a lot and barely eating. The ER vet told us that he had an abscessed tooth that would need to be removed, but it wasn’t an emergency and we would need to take him to a regular vet for that. On Monday I took him to the regular vet for what I thought would be a removal of his abscessed tooth. The regular vet confirmed the abscessed tooth was a problem, but stated that an abscessed tooth doesn’t cause profuse drooling and the ER vet should have easily found the tumor under and encasing part of his tongue. The regular vet also showed me that he was exhibiting “wooden tongue” which explained why he wasn’t able to keep food in his mouth. Had the ER vet done his job correctly then i would have saved time and money by not needing to go to the second vet. That was a year ago…. Fast Forward to realtime - I accompanied a friend whose dog is very ill there. They took the dog back and said a vet tech would do the intake and update us on the plan going forward. The tech did the intake and stated blood would be drawn and the vet would review everything and meet with us later. There were a couple people in the waiting room. We expected a wait for blood results and such. After waiting two more hours (close to 11pm now) and hearing NOTHING. We approached the desk for an update. We were told that the vet who is there was still in a surgery and there were six other cases in front of us (they must have been in private rooms or at home). It’s an animal hospital, so understandable whatever the wait is, but COMMUNICATE that to your customers. My friend has a special needs son and it was way past his bedtime. This is just unacceptable. It takes literally one minute to tell your customers an approximate wait time and that they can go home and you can call them if they chose not to wait. We spent over three hours there. If they would have told us two hours prior then we would have went home at that point and waited for the phone call update. I don’t usually leave bad reviews, but this place has more than earned it.

Experiencia fantástica: I cannot thank the veterinarians, veterinary nurses, and the entire staff at Emergency Veterinary Hospital in Ann Arbor enough for saving my dog — one of my babies. He had suddenly stopped eating and drinking and began vomiting repeatedly. His primary vet couldn’t see him until the following day, and as the hours went by, I could tell he was declining. I called EVH for advice, and the team member I spoke with was so kind, attentive, and truly made me feel heard. When I expressed concern about adding to their already busy day, she reassured me: “That’s why we’re here. Never feel that way.” I’ll never forget that. We brought him in, and they took him back immediately. They allowed me to go home and kept me updated regularly by phone. Everyone I spoke with was compassionate and thorough — they even told me how sweet he was while in their care. They started with imaging, which was inconclusive but suspicious enough to warrant overnight observation and repeat imaging. The next day, unfortunately, his condition had worsened, and surgery was recommended. Two veterinarians took the time to call me, explain the situation clearly, and patiently answer all my questions and concerns. The veterinary nurses also kept me in the loop with thoughtful and informative updates. As a registered nurse myself, I truly appreciated their professionalism, clarity, and warmth throughout the process. He ended up needing surgery to remove a squeaker toy lodged in his small intestine. He stayed at EVH for three days, and while it was an incredibly emotional experience, I knew he was in the best possible hands. He’s now home and healing. He’s tired, restricted in activity, and breaking my heart a little — but he’s alive. And that’s because of EVH. Thank you, from the bottom of my heart, for the expert, compassionate, and lifesaving care you provided during one of the scariest moments of our lives.

Experiencia fantástica: We had to bring our dog in on a holiday weekend for sudden, severe pain. We were able to drop her off and the staff called us with updates and her diagnosis. They were able to get her in and out within a few hours, which is pretty amazing for a holiday weekend. Experiencia negativa: Took my bunny there, drove over an hour away and sat for over 4 hours just to be told there is nothing we can do and had to pay $100 for them to look at him. Absolutely do not recommend taking a rabbit here, I understand there are emergencies ahead of me,but they told me on the phone they could see him and then when I got there they said "we will see what we can do,but we don't deal with that type of thing." Could've been told that when I got there or over the phone. They instead wasted my time, gas, and money just to be told he needs a different vet to see him to treat.

Experiencia negativa: I completely understand that emergency vets must triage patients based on urgency and stability, and I respect how demanding and unpredictable this environment can be. However, my visit to this clinic left me feeling deeply frustrated and emotionally exhausted. My dachshund and I spent nearly 6 hours at the clinic, staying until almost 2am, with very little communication or clear answers throughout the process. I was anxious, alone (with family a member), in an exam room, and desperate for updates — which were few and far between. While I’m grateful my dog wasn’t in critical condition, the lack of transparency made an already terrifying situation feel even worse. I want to sincerely thank Aurora, the vet technician, who was incredibly kind and compassionate. She was the only one who made me feel like I wasn’t a bad pet parent and helped ease my guilt while I was trying to make difficult decisions. Her empathy really mattered. That said, I was extremely upset to see that my dachshund was not handled properly. I clearly stated when we arrived that her back must be supported at all times — as is standard with her breed — but that instruction wasn’t followed. For a clinic that sees emergencies, I expected more awareness of breed-specific handling, especially for a dog potentially dealing with back issues. In the end, I was charged an incredibly high amount and still left without solid answers. I ended up having to take her to a different vet the next morning, where I finally received the clarity I needed. I understand emergency vets are under pressure and things can get hectic — but this experience was genuinely upsetting and traumatic for both me and my dog. I hope this feedback helps improve communication, handling, and patient care in the future.

Experiencia negativa: I brought my 7yo cat here because she wasn’t eating much for the past few days and then she stopped eating altogether the day I brought her. I told them everything that was going on. I told them she needed IV fluids, that she might need an NG tube because she was refusing to eat and I told them that I thought one of her organs was failing, apparently with no veterinary knowledge I was right. We brought her home the next day worse off than when we took her, dying on our living room floor, jaundiced ears and gums. Our baby didn’t get any of the help I begged for and was told would be available to her. We immediately took her to her REAL VET where she fought for 4 long days trying to make it back home to us. This place told us she had a UTI and sent us home with amoxicillin, 4 days later she died of pancreatitis and hepatic lipodosis caused by the pancreatitis, she did not even have a UTI. We failed our poor kitty but this place signed her death and then asked for a check before we could even leave with her. So while my cat was dying in the back due to neglect from the staff that was supposed to help her we had to finish setting up our payment plan. I get that they need the money to help animals and pay the staff, just wish any of my money went towards helping my own cat in any way. We were just told “hopefully she eats soon”. Thank you so much for the blood and urine tests that cost almost a grand and for that being the only “care” given to her. Bring your sweet fur baby here if it’s last resort I guess and expect to pay 3x more than your regular vet for half the care or less. I would have drove across states to get her the help she needed and I will always regret that I didn’t take her a little sooner or somewhere else. My sweet girl would’ve been better off on prayers than bringing her here.

Experiencia negativa: While the front desk staff was friendly and welcoming, I am very disappointed in the cost of care for nothing to have been resolved. My boyfriend and I brought our cat in last night, she is our world. She had been diagnosed with a UTI and told us if she continues not to eat, her liver would BECOME damaged. Blood labs were drawn and a urinalysis was given to her to come up with her diagnosis of a UTI. $734.77 for a blood draw, urinalysis, anti nausea meds, and her amoxicillin. I understand it's an emergency vet so that price will be marked up. However, she had not ate that whole day leading up to taking her to be seen, nor had she ate the entire time being in the clinic. I brought her home this morning, instructions for feeding her were to "boil some chicken" or "warm up turkey or chicken baby food". I had tried feeding her cat broth by syringe and she was letting it fall out of her mouth. It was clear she was getting WORSE by mid afternoon. I was thankfully able to get her into her vet this afternoon where she is being HOSPITALIZED and PROPERLY treated for Pancreatitis and Hepatic Lipidosis. No extra tests were ran by her vet other than a thorough physical exam to come to a true diagnosis. They gave her a 70% chance of living, so I'm praying she makes it. However, if a proper exam had been given last night, those odds would be much higher. $734.77 for absolutely no help. I am extremely disappointed, frustrated, and overall horribly dissatisfied with the attention to detail or care provided to our cat.

Experiencia fantástica: My heeler needed emergency surgery and was referred by the urgent care in town. They took good care of my girl and I got pretty regular updates, mainly at night. There was some confusion when I first dropped her off and it could be a little hard to get through by phone but it seemed to be a very busy weekend so it’s understandable. They were able to stay within their estimate and she stayed for two nights. They let me come visit to see if she would eat with me (she did) and I was able to take her home the next day! Thank you for helping my sweet girl!

Experiencia fantástica: Nobody wants to be at an Emergency Veterinary Hospital. It means things are not good for the pet you love. But when it is a true emergency this place is a true godsend. The staff is compassionate and kind in difficult situations. Ironically I hope I never have to go there again but I will not hesitate to go back if circumstance requires.

Experiencia fantástica: I had need of their services in the middle of the night on 6/15/25 with an extremely large and sick dog. Dr. Mercer's care and compassion, along with the staff, made a bad situation more tolerable. Although the end result was not as I would have wanted, they were honest and upfront with costs and viable options for Trakr, however slim and I made the best decision I could under the circumstances. I would not hesitate to recommend them in an emergent situation. Thank you to Dr. Mercer and staff for all you tried to do. I know Trakr was comfortable while in your care.

Experiencia fantástica: My cat ate a leaf of a highly toxic plant. I called the Emergency Veterinary Hospital and received immediate, helpful information from a veterinarian. The vet and clinic gave me a plan including exactly what to watch for and actions to take such as when to take the cat in for treatment and when safe to stay at home. They did not ask for my name. They did me not charge me for the call.

Experiencia fantástica: Absolutely Amazed by this facility! We called in advance because our dog was exhibiting symptoms that were disturbing and Toledo didn't have any 24 hour vet services. They met us at the door, scooped up our 65# girl and with our approval got x-rays. After they completed their diagnostics they put us in a room and brought me a blanket because it was chilly. The vet, Dr. Andrea, came in and explained the X-rays to us and her reservations about surgery and further treatment. Our 11 y.o. GSD was suffering from bloat and what appeared to be several tumors that were most likely cancer as she had mammory cancer just 9 months ago and it had most likely spread. We were hoping that surgery had eradicated the cancer, but it is a sneaky little demon. We agreed that Sophie was suffering and furthering her pain would be unfair to her and they beautifully and humanely helped her find her wings. They didn't rush us and every person we talked to was kind and compassionate. They gave us so many options on getting her home and ultimately we decided to bring her home and have her cremated locally. (We live 1.5 hours away) They wrapped her in a blanket, put her in a zipped up bag and a beautiful box with handles to make her cremation much easier and transporting her dignified. They even did a beautiful drawing with her name on the box that made us smile and cry. The cost was inline with emergency services. We are thankful for their professionalism and compassion. Sophie is at peace and so are we knowing she is in an angels arms and free of her earthly shackles.

Experiencia fantástica: My standard poodle was very ill for a few days. I took her to her regular vet and after an X-ray, the vet was concerned about a possible blockage. She recommended that I take Frenchy to EVH for further xrays and to be prepared of emergency surgery. I was able to get an appt. very quickly on the same day. EVH took several more X-ray's and gave me several options. I ended up agreeing to emergency surgery that evening. Frenchy received the best care and the entire staff was supportive and very patient with all of my questions. She’s home now resting and I am grateful for the caring staff. Thank you from Frenchy and her human Mom. ❤️
