Experiencia fantástica: I can’t speak highly enough about everyone here! Not are they kind and compassionate, but they truly understand how much we love our dogs and treat them as if they were their own. We have two very rambunctious huskies that get into all sorts of trouble from stealing food to getting cuts from attempting to escape the yard. There’s never judgement from the OSU team and they always make sure we feel comfortable with the car plans. Thanks for always being there for us!

Experiencia fantástica: Dr. Dani Fischer and med student Valeria Perez are amazing! We had such a great experience working with them and are so grateful they were the ones to take care of our sweet pup from initial visit, to diagnostics and testing, to surgery and post-op care, our experience was wonderful. They are amazing people who are clearly passionate about what they do. They were so patient, personable and kind during a difficult time, and went above and beyond each time we saw them in person and talked to them on the phone. Thank you so so much for taking care of our girl with so much love and care. You guys rock!

Experiencia negativa: This place killed my dog, they gave her too much chemo that her body couldn’t handle that ended up enlarging her heart and she died.

Experiencia negativa: My dogs eyes were shaking and she was walking in circles uncontrollably and throwing up- this was the closest vet hospital so I took her here. They convinced me that an overnight stay and MRI was absolutely necessary for the insane price of $4700 but she will be given the Cadillac of care. For 12 hours I've heard no update. I called and the (nice) lady at the front office told me "they are on shift changes." not interested in your shifts so I drove to the vet to speak with the manager. Started very basic....did my dog eat dinner/breakfast? Has the MRI been done? The manager could answer none of these questions. My dog is still there now. I would love to move hospitals but fear that losing the time could cost my dog. This has been my experience so far. I would never take a pet here again.

Experiencia fantástica: Top notch care for a very reasonable price. We brought our dog Nico in today for a neurological evaluation and were very impressed with the level of care and attention provided to us. Not once did we feel rushed or invalidated in our observations. The techs and doctors are knowledgable and communicate clearly and respectfully. Even when the evaluation did not yield the results that we had expected, we left with a plan in place and felt comfort that we could at least rule out any more serious problems. Thank you OSU vet staff, for your transparency, hard work, and for making this such a positive experience for us in an otherwise very stressful and isolating stage of our lives.

Experiencia fantástica: Our pets never seem to injure themselves during regular business hours. Soooo grateful for the 24 hr OSU Vet hospital. The staff was so kind and caring . What a piece of mind knowing this kind of care is available 24 hours.

Experiencia negativa: The service I received was in July of 2022. It hurt then and it hurts now but I figured it was time to let other pet parents know how terrible this vet can be. I brought my 12 year old lab-mix in as a follow-up after an emergency appointment with his normal vet. They let me know the issues he was experiencing needed immediate care that they could not provide and so I went to OSU Emergency Vet directly from their office, knowing it was that bad. I was seen immediately and they took Kojak back immediately as well to do some imaging or what have you. As they did that, I chatted with another vet describing what had been happening (loss of appetite, small stools, weakness) and relayed the info of what my primary vet told me. They told me they would keep him and call me with next steps and to go ahead and drive home. I was shaken, but holding it together. My son of 12 years health just rapidly declined but I thought I was taking him to the best place I possibly could to get him the help he needed to get better. I got in my car and started the 15 minute drive home. 5 minutes into the drive I receive a call from them saying, "There isn't much we can do. You can pay $5000 and we can keep him overnight or we can put him down." I was in complete in utter shock and had to pull over on the side of the road because I was so distraught. The news was delivered deadpan, no empathy or emotion, no "is this a good time?" no one thought for a second that maybe 5 minutes after I leave the facility might not be a great time to call me. I was sobbing uncontrollably, and not forming many words obviously. The vet stayed silent while I cried into the phone. I bubbled out that I wanted them to keep him and try to save him. She let me know they would call me tomorrow. Looking back on it I shouldn't have let them keep him. She had already expressed they weren't able to do much for his condition. It honestly felt like they were trying to milk me for as much money as possible in my extremely vulnerable state. I can only imagine how many families they've done this to. Anyway, they keep him overnight and keep him hydrated at least. Then when I came to pick him up the following day, I paid the 5k fee, and was handed my pup. The vet that handed him to me had the most plastic smile on her face as she said sorry to me. She watched as I struggled to lift my 100 lb boy into my car (his back legs barely worked at this point) and waves goodbye as I drove off sobbing. I get that it was probably his time and there perhaps really wasn't much they could do. It's the complete lack of empathy and understanding that makes me wish I never chose this place. It's also the milking me for $5,000 when you know there's nothing you can do and I'm in an extremely vulnerable state. There was no thought or care in anything that they provided me. It was as if everyone working there was an android with AI programming. I will never, ever take another pet to this place.

Experiencia negativa: I’m not entirely sure what they did for my dog. I do know that they were very slow about it, didn’t update me very often, but very efficiently took my money 5 hours later.

Experiencia fantástica: Yesterday, my primary vet sent me and my very sick kitty to OSU for emergency help. I was able to get right in and the vet and the senior vet student were amazing. I didn’t expect to leave without my cat but he was very old and very sick. The doctor was kind, compassionate and straightforward. It’s an agonizing experience to have to make the decision to euthanize your animals but because of the people that worked with us yesterday I know that I had no options and that’s huge. I feel awful that I don’t remember names but to the people who helped me and Tressel yesterday, please know that you are appreciated. Michelle F Highly recommend OSU Vet hospital for any sick animals

Experiencia fantástica: Before I get to my opinion about them let me tell the story. Yes im writing this on Christmas day. On Monday morning our family had 4 dogs. We've co lived together for years and never even the smallest inkling this was ever going to be a problem. My boy alpha didn't like my boy baxter for some reason that morning. No warning. Nothing. Niether dog ever showed an inkling of aggression. Instant dog fight to the death. I have cameras that recorded it. I only know the facts of the video I watched. Im not speculating and im not a horrible dog owner. Alpha clearly attacked and kept attacking baxter while baxter was trying to run away. Both dogs survived the fight. We made the horrible decision to have alpha euthanized Tuesday. As a dog dad I didnt want to, but I have 2 human children and my only thought was next time it wont be a pet being dragged across the floor. It'll be them. Responsibly I only had one choice. Please don't judge be on that. Both dogs went immediately to our vet who told us neither of them would have a chance without major surgery soon. After discussing everything with the family. Watching the videos we opted to try to save baxter first as he wasn't at fault and there was talk of not being able to trust alpha again anyways from my daughter. Alpha also had less serious injuries and that played a large role in our decision-making. So we called ahead to the emergency department, they had a profile waiting on him with a gurney. Im not gonna lie the non chalant atmosphere when I ran in and asked for the gurney was very off putting. Butttttt a lady followed me out and saw baxter and yelled into her walkie for a large dog stat and my car was swarmed with vet techs and vets, a gentleman named Arys, im sorry if I spelled it wrong buddy scooped baxter out of my back seat and tried to run into the hospital with him, he was as distraught as I was and truly only had the best of intentions for my kiddo as he called baxter in later conversations. Im not gonna lie. The most irritating part about this place is the harassment for money. First was a 610 dollar deposit. Then about 30 minutes later they wanted another 3000 dollar deposit. They were going to keep him and do the surgery team for him in the morning as soon as they could. He was kept in critical condition but stable for about 18 hours. Tuesday they needed another 2000 dollar deposit. They decided 1800 should cover him until Friday. So we paid another 1800 dollar deposit. We see in the portal and follow along every few minutes they put something in. It's Christmas. Right now im $5,410.00 in and the bill without the bandage changes today or medicine is at $5,817.00 he may not be coming home tomorrow he may progress more through out the day and decide to send him home. But im thinking it'll be another day or 2. The residents are awesome. The ones we've dealt with. Im not sure why id ever put 8 or 9 thousand dollars into an 8 year old black lab but they're definitely worth the bang for the buck. Top notch services. Everything about this place is top notch. I wouldn't recommend anywhere else in the case of an actual emergency. But you will pay for that kind of service.

Experiencia fantástica: I am incredibly grateful to Dr. Alex Diamond and the entire team at OSU Veterinary Medical Center Emergency. We brought our dog in for symptoms related to kennel cough after she briefly lost consciousness, and from the moment we arrived, the care and professionalism were evident. The team was transparent and upfront that there would be a bit of a wait due to more urgent cases being treated, which was completely understandable and genuinely appreciated. That honesty alone helped ease my anxiety in a stressful moment. Dr. Diamond and the staff took the time to answer all of my questions, made me feel truly heard, and walked me through everything clearly and compassionately. Most importantly, they gave me peace of mind and reassurance that I was making the right decisions for my dog. The best news of all is that my pup is going to be just fine. I cannot thank this team enough for their expertise, kindness, and calm presence during a really scary situation. Columbus is lucky to have an emergency veterinary team like this.

Experiencia negativa: If I could I would give 0 stars, I went to this place because my dog had vomiting and diarrhea, they told me that to evaluate him I would have to give a deposit of $350, after 30 minutes the doctor came back they told me that he had nothing to take him to my primary doctor so that they could evaluate him better, they took $254 from me and they didn't tell me he had or anything, I felt robbed, terrible experience I don't recommend this place at all

Hi, Nazareth. We recognize that emergency and specialty care are very expensive and do our best to keep costs as low as possible. However, the cost of medications, personnel, medical supplies and equipment are all real costs that we must recoup in order to continue to provide expert veterinary care to our community.

To help owners with these unexpected expenses we offer several financing options through our partners at CareCredit. For questions about financing, please visit our website at https://vmc.vet.osu.edu/resources/financial-policies-and-requirements or to inquire about the cost of care, contact the hospital at 614-292-3551.

Experiencia fantástica: With a very heavy heart this Thanksgiving Day I would like to give Thanks to The Ohio State University Veterinary ER. This past weekend we were there with our beloved MamaKitty who was previously diagnosed with Pancreatitis late August by our Vet - With much dietary management we were able to love on her until Friday she would not eat & was vomiting. We rushed her to OS ER devastated. They advised us we needed to have her seen by their Internal Med Department made her comfortable hydrated her & said to return over the weekend if necessary. We returned Sunday evening when gratefully bloodwork could be drawn though she was so dehydrated. The decision needed to be made to keep her there so she could be transferred in the morning or again return to be able to get an ultrasound. Wanting her home I returned with her early the next morning & they admitted her. Later a mass was detected. We were devastated but were treated with such compassion. They assured us that my daughter & I had done our best but her scenario was unavoidable & terminal & the most humane action was to release her! I can not thank OSU Vet ER enough - the doctors & staff were professional, informative & compassionate. They assisted my daughter & I with the unimaginable during our emotional roller coaster walking us through the loving process! We miss Mama Kitty more then words can say & our forever grateful for OSU -

Experiencia fantástica: I can’t sing their praises enough. I have a dog reactive Shiba Inu, who doesn’t like being touched. I had to bring him in today and completely forgot his muzzle and behavior meds. The staff was there to help get us into a room designated for anxious pets through a separate door so he wouldn’t have to walk past other animals. When we were in the room, they validated my fears for his health even though he was still alert and ambulatory. They were patient with me while we got his muzzle on and gave him his sedation and were there for any questions I had along the way. Not to mention, I was also sick and they offered me water and tea. If you have a behaviorally complex dog with an emergency, this is the place to go. From the front desk, to the students, to the attending physicians; their bedside manner and level of care is truly unmatched. If you have an emergency with your behaviorally complex pet, bring them here!

Experiencia fantástica: I came here a few nights ago to put my little Pomeranian down. The staff & vet were so kind & supportive. I didn't have funds for cremation so I chose to take my pets body home w/ me. I really appreciate the nice little box they put her in. A few years ago I used a different vet to put 1 of my dogs to sleep & they just put the body in a trash bag.

Experiencia negativa: Took my 2 dogs here on suggestion of a coworker. They caught whatever stomach bug was going around. Other than not eating or drinking there was no other issues. I assumed they would need fluids due to dehydration. And where they did diagnose that and rhem having diarrhea ( which i assume was more due to the fluids given) . I am not upset at rhe fact they had ....I am more upset that when they said they wanted to keep them overnight... and I said I did not want to leave them.....it was like they didnt care anymore. My dogs were clean when they went in....and while I dont expect my dogs to be bathed, I didn't expect them to be covered in poo when they were brought out. The least they could have done is spray them off. Even a friend who is a vet was shocked (and she got her degree there). I am glad I brought a couple large towels with me...because the 2 pee pads would not have covered what needed to be. Bad enough I had to drive home with windows down and bathe my dogs when I got home at midnight.

Experiencia fantástica: My pup broke into hives at 10 pm and they did such a great job start to finish; from my phone call where the receptionist was very patient and calm with all my questions, concerns, and honestly rambling. From the intake to outtake experience. They gave him exactly what he needed no more or less with clear take home instructions. Ultimately for an emergency vet they didn’t take advantage price wise either, very grateful for their help all around. Update: had to go back a few hours later due to the Benadryl not being potent enough. They got us in and out, didn’t charge me any additional emergency fees & only for the additional treatment that was needed, which was a steroid shot. & It helped, with time and bathing which they also recommended, my pup was completely better within 24hrs! Great calm caring staff. Seriously recommend!

Experiencia negativa: Took my grandparents dog to OSU to have surgery to remove lumps. They ended up crippling her back left leg. They also gave us the wrong results of the labs. Said it was just inflammation. Took her to my vet that is out in the country and they got the tests from Ohio State and it ended up being celuitus, mastitis, and an autoimmune disease that attacks her muscles. Ohio state said that we needed to take her to their neurological department to figure out the inflammation when it was right there in their report. They were just trying to get money. What a joke OSU is. I'll always trust the country doctors.

Experiencia negativa: Do not under any circumstances bring your animal here. Unless your pet is on the brink of passing, they will not do anything for your animal. They will run vitals on it and let it sit in a cage for hours on and completely un cared for or unsupervised. It will charge you hundreds of dollars to have them sit in that cage until maybe after our six somebody will come and talk to you. One of the worst experiences I’ve ever had in any vet related situation.had an emergency with my dog who is experiencing diarrhea, was concerned for his health when I called into the hospital they asked that I bring him in right away (they said to come in right away, I called for advice and THEY SAID it sounds like an emergency or something could be seriously wrong. I arrived. Everything seemed normal, but then three hours past and the only person who came to talk to me was a vet tech who came out and was exceedingly rude to me kept interrupting me kept cutting me off kept trying to like explain away why when all they could’ve said was we’re sorry it’s taking so long etc. She came out huffing and puffing ready to fight and her energy was very abrasive. She lamented heavily about how she was the only one there to accomplish her job in an error that was just not welcoming for somebody. Who was there in an emergency situation. I was told that because my dog signs were vital I wasn’t necessarily on the top of the list to be looked at. She then told me that within like 20 to 40 minutes, someone would come and do a diagnostic run through of my pet history. That person never came. An hour went by and that person never came. I asked and nothing happened while I watched others get seen by nurses/students but not me. The “bad timing” of my pets’s situation coinciding with others was not planned. I called. I came in. We were both treated like not a priority. The way that vet tech handled herself alone shows they are not people to entrust your pet with or to trust to care about you.

Experiencia negativa: My brother's little dog was vomiting/ dry heaving & just sick. I told my brother to take the dog to OSU veterinarian clinic. Within 10 minutes of an exam they told us the little dog was in distress due to heart failure & For nearly 10 minutes they strongly encouraged my brother to put his little dog to sleep. Thankfully my brother refused & took his dog home. This horrible incident occurred over 1 month ago. The dog is healthy, happy & back to his self. The dog ate something that made him sick. So I encourage any1 reading this post to think twice B4 u put your dog down. Oh and they tried to charge me $750!! I ended up paying $365! Think it over folks

Experiencia negativa: Never take your pet here if it is something serious. My dog had a GI obstruction and they left him sit for 12 hours while I waited in the waiting room. They kept coming every couple hours telling me he was next to be seen. After I was the only one left in the waiting room the still told me they were not sure when they were going to get to look at him. After sitting there all night I finally talked to another vet and they were able to get my dog seen. OSU still charged my card over 600 dollars for an exam and meds that he never even received. I have talked with them multiple times and they tell me I'm being charged because that's the orders the vet put into the system and as soon as orders are put in you get charged for them even if you pet doesn't receive said treatment or meds. They also never let him out for a bathroom break or gave him anything to drink. As soon as we walked out the front door he started peeing and when we got to the car he drank almost a full bottle of water. So not only was my pet not taken care of but also neglected for the 12 hours he was in there care.

Experiencia negativa: My 16-year-old dog was recently diagnosed with pulmonary hypertension. The standard treatment hasn’t improved his coughing much, and after he nearly fainted twice yesterday I brought him to the emergency room out of caution. He’s still an energetic, young-looking dog outside of the coughing, and the physical exam did not provide any helpful insights. The resident wanted to repeat the same x-rays and bloodwork that had already been done at his regular vet just two weeks ago, even though what he really needs is an echocardiogram. I was told that the echocardiogram team was leaving soon and that the only way to have it done the next day was to admit him overnight. My dog was completely stable at the time, has never been boarded, and has always slept next to a person his entire 16 years. An unnecessary and stressful hospital stay — plus added cost — did not make sense. I even offered to bring him back at any time the next morning, but was told “that’s the way the hospital works.” To make matters worse, the resident commented that she “barely gets paid” and simply does things the way she is told, which left me with little confidence in the care model. Overall, I was very disappointed and left feeling that unnecessary tests and stress for my dog were prioritized over what was truly needed. We now have an echocardiogram scheduled at MedVet.

Experiencia negativa: Had our dog up there for four hours they never did anything except for say we need more money. They did a little blood work and that’s all never told us what’s wrong with the dog or anything. We drove an hour and a half to go there and couldn’t tell us anything so we brought the baby back home. They couldn’t tell us if he had cancer they couldn’t do x-rays or didn’t wanna do them didn’t do an ultrasound didn’t do a The dog was paralyzed. They didn’t do any of that. We ask him to, but they didn’t do it. They said it would cost $400 to call somebody else to come look at him before they could do any more testing on him. That’s crazy.

Experiencia negativa: While, I understand businesses don’t run for free, I also understand that there was a moral and ethical oath that people that practice any type of medicine take. Apparently, you don’t have to take that oath to become a resident of U veterinary residence. You best with the wrong one, Miss Amanda, your lack of compassion and the fact that you wanted to send my puppy home with a broken leg is detestable. I will do everything in my power to make sure you never treat another animal like this again. And then the fact you lied to my face twice Stating that it was illegal for you to give my puppy an exam. She had a broken leg dangling there. What the hell is wrong with you? I suggest you find another major Because your other lack of compassion and utter disregard Well-being of an animal is disgusting just like you. I think the best way to describe experience would be by putting a copy of the letter I just sent to the board of veterinary medicine And I’ll also be sending one to the president of Ohio State university and anybody else I can think of to try to stop you from getting your license Because obviously this career is not meant for you To Whom It May Concern, I am writing to formally file a complaint regarding a deeply troubling incident that occurred on the evening of 08/05/2025 at the Ohio State University Veterinary Medical Center involving one of your veterinary residents, Amanda Clapham. At approximately midnight,, I brought my seven-week-old puppy to your emergency clinic after she had a serious accident in our backyard that resulted in what appeared to be a broken leg. We are new to Ohio and in a difficult financial situation, which I was transparent about from the beginning. Despite this, I brought my puppy in immediately, as I believe a broken leg constitutes a genuine medical emergency, and I expected, at the very least, humane care and pain management. Upon arrival, I completed intake paperwork and a credit application, which was unfortunately denied. Approximately 45 minutes later, Ms. Clapham came to speak with me and opened the conversation by stating, “It’s illegal for us to even examine her without $350.” This statement was both alarming and confusing, as my puppy had already been taken to the back for evaluation. Ms. Clapham then claimed that my puppy had “stood up on her own” and had “stable vital signs,” and reiterated that nothing further would be done without upfront payment. I asked if she could at least provide pain relief until we could figure out a solution in the morning. She refused and instead told me to take the puppy home and “figure it out.” This felt not only dismissive but ethically unacceptable, considering the obvious pain my puppy was in. We were forced to seek immediate care elsewhere. At the second emergency clinic, my puppy was compassionately examined, X-rayed, and administered pain medication. The X-rays confirmed that she did, in fact, have a broken leg, as we had feared. I am appalled by the lack of compassion, medical ethics, and professional responsibility demonstrated by Ms. Clapham. Turning away an animal in clear distress—especially a vulnerable young puppy—because of an upfront payment barrier, and refusing even basic pain management, raises serious questions about the clinic’s protocols and training. I respectfully request that this incident be reviewed by the appropriate board or oversight committee. At minimum, I would like acknowledgment that this conduct was not in line with the standards of veterinary care and ethics expected at a teaching hospital, especially one as prestigious as Ohio State. Please let me know what further steps I need to take to ensure that this complaint is formally processed and reviewed. Sincerely, A Briggs I included a picture of my puppy, Charlotte, after being seen by people who actually care and who got their payment today because they gave me a chance to gather it

Experiencia negativa: I truly hope that OSU will find a replacement for Dr. Lilley. Referring patients to The Behavior Clinic in Cleveland is not a viable solution, as it seems to prioritize profit over care. While behavioral appointments can be expensive, OSU's pricing makes these essential services more accessible for those in need. I'm very disappointed that OSU is temporarily closing its behavioral medicine services.

Experiencia negativa: I don't doubt that the care can be excellent. I am certain Ohio State employs the best vets possible. I never had the chance to find out, however. I wanted to help an unneutered male stray that was living in my yard. He had lost a lot of weight, and I hoped to get him assessed and neutered. Traditional TNR wasn't the best option because he seemed unwell. Several nonprofit organizations referred me to the Ohio State vet medical center's stray cat program. I was met pleasantly at the front desk, but as soon as I said "stray," everything went downhill. A technician came out, quickly took a look at the very anxious cat in the carrier, walked around the carrier (which caused even more anxious-cat behavior), looked at me, and shook her head no. That was the assessment. I was not looking for a free or discounted service. I said I'd pay. I asked what I could do. No help. No assistance. I left frustrated and in tears. I sat in my car in the vet center lot for a long time, searching for a solution. Thank God I found PAWS Veterinary Urgent Care. They were willing to take the anxious young cat. They carefully handled, soothed, and sedated him. They tested; gave shots, antibiotics, and flea and worm treatments; and neutered him. I paid them and took the cat home. He's sleeping in the carrier. Tomorrow he'll go back out into the community, but he'll be neutered and healthier. Ohio State vet center, no doubt, will continue to be profitable, successful, and cutting edge in many ways, but, based on my experience, that does not include excellence in compassion.

Experiencia fantástica: Last night was one of the hardest days of my life and the staff and doctors at OSU were so comforting. Having a pet for 14 years and having to say goodbye is hard. I want to thank to Vet and Staff for your care and support during one of my darkest days. Letting me spend as much time with my little girl for as long as I wanted was so thoughtful and needed. The process was smooth and pain free and I will be eternally grateful to you all.

We left with so much peace of mind that we did the right thing for him today, you guys made the process of getting to the back and getting started so quick; in my mind that was so important because it gave us less time to think about whether or not we made the right decision for him. We really appreciated all the services provided today from water to Hershey kisses Thank you so much. #JoJo’sFamily #longlivejojo #restpeacefullyking #foreverloved #neverforgotten

Experiencia fantástica: The staff were unbelievably kind, compassionate, and helpful - and at nearly midnight! They went above and beyond. I wish I knew the name of the staff member who I primarily interacted with but she was truly incredible during one of the most stressful nights of my life. I will always remember her, for real. OSU itself is unfortunately profit-motivated but employees don’t decide pricing and despite their employer, the staff were genuinely amazing people who showed me empathy and compassion in a really horrible moment for me.

Experiencia negativa: I brought my cat to Ohio State’s Veterinary Medical Center for an urgent issue—he hadn’t urinated in nearly 24 hours, and I was deeply concerned about a possible urinary blockage, which can be life-threatening. My cat has severe anxiety and is an established patient with OSU’s behavioral veterinary department, which is why I chose to bring him to OSU. Before the exam, I explained his high anxiety and asked to stay with him in the exam room to help keep him calm. I was told no. More than an hour later, I was brought back because he had become “aggressive.” This was shocking—my cat has never shown aggression before in previous vet visits. He was so terrified he had defecated in his carrier during that time, but no one had cleaned him or the carrier. When he was returned to me, he was clearly distressed—hissing and growling—but he immediately calmed down once I was with him again. It wasn’t until I tried to clean him myself that I realized he had also urinated on the towel in the carrier. He had been left to sit in both urine and feces until I could get him home. Once home, I had to bathe him, which increased his anxiety. He had feces caked on his body and between every toe. It was heartbreaking and completely unnecessary. Someone from OSU did call to apologize, but only after my behavioral vet (who is excellent and whom I trust) raised concerns. I was told that OSU's policy states animals who soil themselves should be cleaned, which makes this experience even more upsetting. I will continue to see the behavioral team, who have always been compassionate and helpful. But based on this experience, I will not return to OSU for emergency care. My cat—and others like him—deserve better.

Experiencia fantástica: I cannot recommend the OSU Veterinary Hospital highly enough. Ten out of five stars. Every single person I spoke with--from parking to front-desk staff to the amazing students and doctors--was highly attentive, compassionate, kind, and thoughtful. I spoke with multiple doctors for my dog Raoul's ear surgery (TECA-BO) and each one explained things in detail and took the time to make sure I really understood. I wasn't expecting such personal care from a large facility, but I felt like everyone had a personal interest in Raoul's care, including his comfort and recovery process. I am so, so grateful. Despite living three hours away, I would do it again (and will, as he needs to have the same procedure on his other ear). Although it's not an inexpensive procedure, it was much more affordable than at any veterinary hospital in my local area. I went into this process very nervous and came out with full confidence--thank you to everyone.

Experiencia negativa: We were not pleased with Ohio State ER Clinic. We have a mini Australian Shepherd (1 year old and about 7 lbs) that has a condition called mega esophagus. We just had x-rays done at our local vet clinic that shown her condition. We’ve had (3) different sets of x-rays done in the last 6 months that show her condition. The vet just gave her a shot of antibiotics since she was showing signs of pneumonia that were followed up by a x-Ray showing she in fact has pneumonia. Our vet indicated that we go through the ER at Ohio State so that we could her on a fast track to have surgery for the mega esophagus which the doctor indicated she would be a good candidate for the PRAA since the x-Ray shown this was the possibility of her condition. End result - not an acknowledgement that this was her conditioned and they wanted to do other test at over $1,000 to find out what is wrong with her.

The entire staff was friendly as well. I would go back if I ever had too, and the price was cheaper than I expected.

We are very grateful you were both there at our time of need.

Experiencia fantástica: Late Saturday night (two nights ago), we had to take a cat, from our feral colony, to The Ohio State University Veterinary Medical Center. The cat was very sick and had been hard to trap and transport, until late Saturday evening, when the cat went into his heated house, and we were permitted to bring the entire heated house, with cat inside, to the ER. Everyone was so kind and compassionate as we were told the news for the cat, Sam, whom we had cared for, for five years. He was in critical condition, from kidney and heart failure, and was anemic. We were told our options, always with compassion and sympathies for the decisions we were having to make. In the end, we all felt it was the kindest decision to allow Sam to pass. We were offered a comfortable space to say our good byes to Sam. Being a feral, I had never been able to truly pet Sam, but as he was about to pass, I was able to pet him, speak to him, and love on him a bit. Then, the doctor came and compassionately helped Sam to pass. I would recommend this animal care center to anyone in need of compassionate care for the animal in your care / family. Everyone, from the front desk person, to the techs, to the doctor, truly cared about our and Sam's trying situation. I want to thank them all for making such a hard moment, for Sam and us, his caregivers, a more gentle experience. Thank you. Linda and John Parsons

Experiencia negativa: I’m genuinely thankful they were able to help my dog with her fractured femur, and I appreciate the care she received. However, I couldn’t help but feel that the focus leaned more toward profit than patient care. It came across as though they were taking advantage of people’s love for their pets, which was disappointing. Because of that, I’ve decided to seek ongoing care for my dog elsewhere—somewhere that feels more centered on the well-being of the animal than the bottom line.

Experiencia negativa: We took our German shepherd there when she was throwing up blood and bleeding from her bottom. They kept acting like they couldn't treat her because she was anxious they asked to sedate her just to get her vitals. We asked if they could do an X-ray and give her fluids. They said she was not dehydrated enough for fluids and didn't think an X-ray would be any good. They did come out and tell us after 5 hours they were going to do ultrasound, which they said didn't work because her fur was to thick. I asked why they didn't just shave her at which they said it was most likely anxiety. Telling me if it got worse we could come back while my pup was bleeding all over their floor. Took her to our vet and in 30 min they found out she had swallowed a very small piece of metal after doing an X-ray. Thankfully she is home and better. When we called and asked why OSU would not do an X-ray when we were there, they told us we don't do X-rays just because you want one. Even saying to us the doctor did everything they could. If I could leave a zero for this clinic I would.

Experiencia fantástica: I cannot even begin to express my gratitude to everyone involved in Otto’s care. Every single interaction I had with the staff at OSU’s Veterinary Hospital was professional, informative, and INCREDIBLY compassionate. When Otto’s condition was presented to be of greater severity than initially predicted, Dr. Pope presented multiple treatment plans with realistic outcomes and did not sugarcoat the severity of his condition. She approached the conversation of euthanasia with a nonjudgemental attitude and gracefully answered every single question I could think of to assist in my decision. Dr. Pope and additional support staff— including social work— were heavily involved during the entire process of Otto’s euthanasia, offering constant reassurance that I was making the right decision for my chronically-ill special needs boy. It is also important to note that Otto’s euthanasia occurred on a late Friday afternoon and his team likely worked overtime to assist us. We were not rushed by any means and were encouraged to take all of the time we needed. I cannot recommend this place enough for emergent pet care. Thank you to everyone involved in Otto’s care for making our final moments together more meaningful and most importantly, for sustaining his comfort level.

Experiencia negativa: If you don’t want to read the long post, I summarize with this: if you even SLIGHTLY love your pet, go to MedVet or VCA, do NOT waste your time and money by coming to OSU!!!!!!!!!! OSU only cares about your money, NOT your cherished animal! If you hate your animal, then OSU is for you!!!!! I went to OSU ER today at 1230, WORST experience. I called prior, told them when I would be there, my car, and the background. she pulled the emergency referral for internal to be seen by ER first then to be put into Internal medicine immediately today for a prognosis. I get there waiting for 10 mins before a girl walks up to say ‘sorry Im busy trying to leave and can’t help you’. Waited five more minutes and finally talked to about my emergency. I tell them again what’s going on, pay and a guy comes for Lilly. Ask what’s going on and as I’m telling them what’s going on AGAIN for the 4th time, cuts me off saying ‘I just need to know what’s going on today’ disregarding the whole reason we are there. He takes my cat and sends me to the waiting room that smelt horrible of sewer and filth. Waited 30 mins and he came back to ask me questions I just had shared with me. So I repeated everything again. More waiting until I get put into a room. I waited here for 32 mins (a sign on the door says if you’re not seen in 15 minutes come get the receptionist to let them know. 5th ). The doctor (student) FINALLY comes in to tell me her “findings” about my lovely cat, claiming a prognosis couldn’t be made/discussed due to the results I had brought/my vet sent (mind you I had blood work 2 days ago, ultrasound 1 month, more lab work in Dec and Nov) refused to review or considered for her care since it wasn’t by collected by OSU. I asked her if she looked at the ultrasound report/findings and said she wasn’t able to find it when it was pulled up on her screen and my phone. Wanted to hospitalized Lilly, feeding tube, xray, ultra sound, lab work and take samples of her liver and gallbladder quoting me about 5k just for overnight hospitalization and prior to being seen by internal medicine where it will be more. Said even though I was an emergency referral I would have to wait either a day or Monday to be seen by internal with her hospitalization. Or it could take weeks to be seen with my emergency referral!! I stressed that I didn’t want to make a decision without all the info and said she’ll give me five minutes to make a decision without providing me any options, financial quotes, nor letting me talk to any other vet or internal medicine provider. In my decision time allowance, I called my vet and they forwarded over all my medical records over to Med Vet in Worthington. That OSU vet returned for my decision to which I informed her I am leaving to go to medvet. she said that I wasn’t allowed to leave until SHE refers me to Medvet herself even though I had the referral sent. She comes back another 15 mins later that she had a consultation set up with internal medicine at medvet, they are expecting me. I rushed out of there to go to medvet now being about 4 PM. FOUR HRs OF WASTED! When I got to medvet they specifically told that vet student that we would NOT be seen for a consult and to come tomorrow morning at 8 to be seen. Glad I still went to Medvet where we ACTUALLY WERE SEEN AND SET A PATH FORWARD!!!! TO SUMMARIZE: just say you hate your pet if you go to OSU ER. I wouldn’t trust this place with a stuffed animal at this point!!!!!! Advice to the two that ‘tended’ to us today, actually be prepared to do your job, read the medical referral, read all reports, and don’t tell me my cats vitals were great when she had a fever, dehydrated and LIE about ‘setting up a consultation’ when that wasn’t the case. I strongly encourage you two to consider another profession, this doesn’t seem to be it for you at all!! Save yourself the time by avoiding useless waiting around, energy and heart ache and go to MedVet. Trust me.

Experiencia fantástica: I can’t say enough about how wonderful they are here. Every single person we encountered was nice, helpful and compassionate. Our tiny yorkie broke his leg jumping off the couch. The Emergency vet that we went to Sunday night did X-rays and said they couldn’t fix it, and wanted to amputate his leg. He isn’t even two, so it was not something that seemed necessary. We sent the X-rays to OSU the next morning. They said they could fix it. We drove down on Monday and they saw him that day. They did the surgery the following day. Zach and Juli were absolutely amazing! They calmed our fears, kept us informed every step of the way, and cared for our little guy like he was their own. I highly recommend OSU for anything your pet needs.

Experiencia negativa: Took my dog in critical condition to this vet. They told me I could give her a $10k blood transfusion, or take her home to die. They assured me there were no medications to help. We sought a second opinion at another vet who immediately prescribed medications and was confused why OSU did not help us at all. Our dog did a complete 180 within 24 hours on the medication. All the OSU vet cares about is making money and not giving you solutions to help your pets live longer. Could not be more disappointed with this outcome seeing as I spent several hundred dollars with no solution. I am so glad I contacted another vet. Now my dog is happy and healthy.

Experiencia negativa: I’m sure it’s a good school but concerns over liability and a fear of opening up the school to lawsuits prevents staff from answering the most basic of treatment questions. I’m much prefer the VCA or West vets locally as they will answer any questions you have regarding treatment or diagnosis. This Location hung up on me for asking if an animal with Lyme disease should be treated the first time I called. When I called back and said I think we got disconnected. They told me I needed to come in for a $370 diagnosis after explaining that another vet had already diagnosed. They would not answer a simple question about whether or not they treat Lyme disease.

Experiencia fantástica: I have nothing but good things to say about the Cardiology Department at the OSU Veterinary Medical Center. My cat Edgar was determined to be experiencing serious heart issues by my primary care veterinarian, and after recommendation, I decided to take little man here from the Cleveland area. They treated us like family from the moment we arrived, providing a comfortable room to discuss what Edgar was going through with a veterinary assistant. They conducted a series of tests and observations over about four hours and determined the problem. Dr. Jordan met with us to discuss in detail what was going on, and was extremely thorough, caring, and compassionate, going above and beyond to make sure Edgar got the best care possible. The cost was also very reasonable for the quality of care. I’ll forever be grateful for this medical center, and we’ll be back soon for follow up appointments.

Experiencia negativa: Pretty Boy, my most loving and loved 12-year old German Shepherd, was euthanized on November 18, 2024, after three days of suffering, needlessly. The vet who evaluated Pretty Boy November 14 told me a diagnosis of Pretty Boy's condition and results of a lab report would be available the next day, November 15. The lab report indicated Pretty Boy had a urinary tract infection (UTI) and the evaluation confirmed a terminal spine disease. The information was finally shared with me five days after he was evaluated by a neurologist. I called for lab results on November 16. A telephone recording indicated the office was closed until Monday, November 18. I called again on Monday, November 18, to ask for the report and received it on November 19. While the report also indicated Pretty Boy was in fact suffering from IVDD, type II, a life threatening illness, coupled with the UTI, his health issues were exacerbated. Had I known about either, I would have asked for pain medication. It would not have changed my euthanizaion decision for Pretty Boy, based on his rapid deterioration of quality of life. Pretty Boy never indicated he was in pain unti November 15. Pretty Boy never wanted for anything, in terms of his quality of life and health care, that I did not immediately provide. The total lack of timely communication by Pretty Boy's health care providers caused him to suffer in ways he had never experienced. Pretty Boy did not deserve that.

Experiencia negativa: Horrible. The lady at the front desk was nice but everything else was just a bad experience. Took my cat here on Thanksgiving day due to not eating, throwing up and diarrhea. I waited 6 long hours. People coming in after me and leaving before. I understand there’s emergencies but I overheard these people and they were having same symptoms as my cat but still got out with their pet before. I waited 2 hours before I was even told what the plan was. We got there at 9 am and didn’t leave until a little after 3pm. They took everyone else into a private room to talk about their plan but they just talked to me in the middle of the lobby. I didn’t get any discharge instructions, still did not know what was wrong with my boy, they provided just fiber at the end when he was not eating. The fiber was a powder that went on food. They also told me they did supportive care for him but did not tell me what the supportive care was. Also he came back sopping wet in his butt area like he was peeing/pooping on himself and stunk incredibly bad. I did not even get to see him before going home. They took my carrier and put him in and sent us on our way. Horrible

Experiencia negativa: If you don’t have thousands of dollars you will have to be faced with the choice of euthanasia. Your animal will not even stand a chance there without money. Your animal will not stand a chance here they want to kill your animals because you can’t afford an emergency surgery that is recommended. There’s actual families that love their animals and to be told there’s nothing to do but kill them over a money situation when there are plenty of funds willing to work with low income it’s absurd. It’s one thing to get told over the phone about the funding but to get turned down over skin color was horrible. When reaching out with another emergency vet they were able to provide the same exact funding that was turned away because they want you to kill your animals. This place is nothing but a greedy money hungry facility it is a shame. Shame on you guys for giving me an option to kill my companion then to try anything whether it was to even give me a hug. You want to know something else he lived and survived as well due to the same programs that were made available that you guys swore he didn’t meet a criteria for! Watch out people get a second opinion before killing your companions they do not care about you they care about your money!

Experiencia negativa: This is my 4 month old husky kota. We took him in here to OSU after he got into the trash and was getting sick and having diarrhea and not eating. They thought he had parvo. They gave him a test and it came back negative they said they was still treating him for parvo. They said we had to come up with 3375$ so they could take him into their care. They would not let us leave him there so he could get help while we brought back the money. So after going home and selling my car to pay for this vet bill my beloved kota had passed. We felt completely ignored he did not get the actual help that he needed and if we went to a different hospital things probably could have been different! He needs justice! My dog is paralyzed, and his neurologist is out of town in Cleveland so we have no where else to go but Columbus or Pittsburgh. I explained the situation, and the receptionist still said no MRIs on weekends. Never heard of a machine not working for emergencies on certain days. And if you don't have the staff for it, don't advertise yourself as an emergency hospital that will take neuro cases.

Experiencia fantástica: Our cat Dexter had a medical emergency from a sudden illness and we were recommended to go to OSU for treatment. The woman who got us checked in was very friendly and complimented our Dexter's "orange nose", I never heard the color being described as orange before and loved that. Waiting times were never too long for us and always communicated well, we had our newborn baby and toddler with us so that was very appreciated. We received devastating news that our Dexter was rapidly declining and the chances of making a recovery were very slim. Our vet discussed humane euthanasia with us as an option and that seemed like the best choice to make in this situation because he was in so much discomfort. Our vet always explained everything and answered every question we had. They had nice quiet rooms with soft lighting set up for saying goodbye. I was able to hold our Dexter the whole time as she gave him the medications through an IV standing away from us so that his final moments were focused on being with us, his family. After he passed away they told me I could take as long as I needed and to just call them when I'm ready for him to be taken away from the room. A week or so later I received an email that Dexter's memorial paw print was mistakenly sent to our old address. I responded and updated them with our new address and I received his paw print in the mail soon after. It was beautifully done, came in its own case with a poem and a place to put Dexter's picture. We also received an invitation to their annual remembrance ceremony. And our wonderful vet wrote us a personal sympathy card with such kind and reassuring words that brought me some peace of mind, I really appreciated it. Although they could not save our Dexter, they made sure he passed peacefully and went above and beyond my expectations with the memorial paw print, card, and invitation. They made one of the worst days of my life much more bearable and we're grateful for that.

Experiencia fantástica: Will only use OSU from now on, not MedVet! The efficiency was top notch and wait times were minimal. I especially wanted to highlight Haley, Audrey, Samantha, Dr. Spitzer, Dr. Nelson and Dr. Dowell for going above and beyond to take care of my cat, Bandit, who stayed overnight and was on the verge of receiving a feeding tube. The team took phenomenal care of of him and were so patient and delightful to talk to considering the circumstances. We expected that he would need ample testing which was going to be very expensive, but due to the exceptional care, they deduced that he didn't need the additional testing and he was able to come home. I am just overall impressed and incredibly grateful.

Experiencia fantástica: I don't ever leave reveiws for anything. But this time I'm compelled to let everyone know about the OSU vet clinic. I brought in a feral cat that I have been feeding for years. We found him unresponsive in the yard. My husband thought he was dead. He had a broken shoulder, he had limping around for years. I tried to capture him to get him fixed, was never successful. He was attacked by something and had awful scars on his neck from years ago. He showed up at my back door every morning for breakfast and night for dinner. I had a heated house for him in the winter. He hissed at us everytime we would get within a foot of him. I brought him to OSU after my vet told me they had no room in their schedule to help me. I knew he was in trouble. I just wanted to send him off peacefully. The vet clinic recognized as I walked in the door it was an emergency. We were taken care of immediately. They were so kind and caring. I truly appreciate their concern and immediate care. Thank you to the staff at OSU vet clinic. You rock!!!!!

Experiencia fantástica: I will forever be grateful for the OSU Vet Clinic. I traveled all the way from Pittsburgh a few years ago, scared and unsure of what was ahead for my new Rottweiler puppy. Over the next 18 months, I made multiple trips to OSU, and they worked closely with my local vet to handle any minor updates and appointments. Throughout it all, I felt comfortable and well cared for. My dog, Zoey, had four procedures on each of her legs starting when she was just 8 months old due to a genetic bone disease I didn't know she had inherited. Two of these procedures alone would have cost me $11,000 elsewhere, which I simply couldn't afford. OSU Vet Clinic provided top-notch care for Zoey at nearly half the cost. Zoey is now 4 years old, and I never thought I'd be lucky enough to have her this long. She runs, jumps, plays like a puppy at times, and is a lovable bum the rest of the time. I will always be thankful for everything they did for us. A special thanks to Dr. Nina Kieves—she's the best!

Experiencia negativa: The good samaritan program here is a joke. I took a very sick, stray cat in today. The older lady at the counter was pretty rude and said the cat only looked dirty and that he stinked. Ya lady he is pooping all over himself. HES SICK! Only to be told he "looked" fine and they wouldn't take him. They didn't even bother to take him out of the crate to get a good look at him. He has puss in his eyes, very skinny, diarrhea, and he isn't grooming himself. He clearly needs medical attention. Shame on you OSU.

Experiencia fantástica: I forget her name but if management can look her up who helped us on my account and thank her I would truly greatly appreciate it! She did a great job on helping us and just being there for us when my moms dog passed away tonight . She gave us as much time as we needed and cared about the situation and what was going on . Even tho we was a mess crying she STILL went above and beyond and walked us out to the car and made sure everybody would be ok . I used this place with my last dog and they was GREAT . It was an unfortunate both times. but they was ALWAYS comforting and understood! That’s why we brought are family baby there! I appreciate everything you guys did tonight! And to the manager ? Experiencia negativa: The Vets that work at the vet hospital are wonderful bait that is the only good thing I have to say about the facility. Their financial policies are horrible. My dog needed surgery on 4 th of July, I was unable to get into the bank to get the money to pay them. They wouldn’t touch even after I had already paid $1400. So I had to borrow the money. She got her surgery, we picked her up the next day. The office owed us $600 that we have overpaid. I recieved a statement stating they had refunded the overpayment. That was 2 weeks ago. I have called everyday for a week, left messages, sent emails, I have not been able to get any response from the accounting department. I have not received any refund or a phone call or email to clarify this. I guess I will have to file in small claims court to get my money. ABSOLUTELY UNACCEPTABLE!!!!

Experiencia negativa: This rating is solely based on my interaction with one of the receptionist. I spoke with Dori this evening regarding a potential emergency regarding one of my cats. At first she was kind and well-spoken but that took a very quick and disappointing turn. After being put on hold, Dori returned to the phone was very quick and short. She seemed rushed to get off of the phone. After she was done explaining, I asked a question in response to what she explained and she sounded very condiscending and inconsiderate. Additionally, to verify that I had all of the information correct, my spouse wanted to hear as well, she refused to repeat the information and said that she has "already shared too much". I am not sure how you can share too much with someone when it is in regard to a life or potential death pet emergency. It really makes me question the moral values of ohio states veterinary team.

I was extremely nervous for her to have surgery because I always heard goats don’t handle anesthesia well. Everyone there was so nice, caring and compassionate. The students were awesome and very professional. (and if any of you are reading this, good luck in your careers, you will be amazing). The fertility veterinarian and surgeons were amazing. They answered all our questions and were very caring. The surgery went well and our goat is back to normal. Thank you so much to each and every one who was involved. ❤️ We highly recommend them! Experiencia negativa: I have had some wonderful vets in my time as a pet owner and communication has always been amazing. I cannot say the same about OSU! They collect their money before they take your animal back and require you to pay before they return your animal to you. I get why policies like this are necessary, but the communication and access to your pets physician is non-existent. I picked up my cat from a very expensive procedure, and THREE different people, one at a time came into the room, spoke with for a couple of minutes, proceeded to tell me everything was emailed and to let them know if I had questions. They are in and out so fast. Fast forward to my pet not responding to a treatment and my cat becoming ill. I have called and called and requested to speak with the doctor. I keep getting messages from the tech, NOT the doctor. When I call in, I can't get a human on the phone. The quality of customer service is poor and every time I speak to a receptionist or customer service rep, I get "handled" and assured someone will be in touch. My pet is not doing well, yet I keep being told someone will take "up to 48 hours to get back with you." Lastly, if you ask to speak with a doctor, why do they have the tech call you? After spending thousands of dollars, this is unacceptable, but even more concerning, is my pet's life is at stake!!

Experiencia fantástica: Back in February 2024, my fiancé and I rushed our sweet dog, Aspen, to OSU Vet Center. We drove 3 hours from Pittsburgh because Aspen needed life saving Dialysis treatments. We were very scared due to the severity of her condition. However, our worries were subsided when we met the unbelievably caring staff and the best veterinarian on the planet; Dr. Joanna Finstad. Dr. Finstad specializes in internal medicine and dialysis and we couldn’t have be luckier to have her taking care of our little girl. She was the most caring and compassionate doctor we have ever met and our girl Aspen loved her. Unfortunately, our girl lost her battle but Dr. Finstad pulled out every stop for her and made sure she was taken care of every step of the way. She treated Aspen like her own and we couldn’t be more thankful to her and all the staff at OSU Vet Center that made a difficult time a bearable one. If you or anyone needs top notch care for your pet, this is the place.

Experiencia negativa: THE WORST CARE ANY ANIMAL should recieve. I was referred to osu from my small animal vet to take on my 8 years old cats case. He was placed in their care to be treated because the outcome was good and no animal should suffer. I checked him in thursday and he came home tuesday with a great report. Since he was not interested in eating on his own, they placed a feeding tube in on monday for him to be on until he wanted to eat on his own. Tuesday I spoke to Dr. Klein the only vet I was told was on my animals case, we spoke about an hour on full details of what I will be doing when he comes home. Granite the bill is $7,000.00 at this point but my responsibility as a pet owner if they are able to be treated our job is to treat them no matter the cost. As we spoke she said He is doing great and outcome was a 100%, a few things in the conversation that was concerning, She said he hadnt made a bowl movement which was normal and might not for awhile??? I think any patient in the hospital is not allowed to be released from a hospital unless they had made a bowl movement, then prior to leaving she gave me the emergency number to call for any concerns. From tuesday- thursday I had called about concerns over a dozen times with phone records, I would sometimes talk to Dr klein but sometimes they would relay the message and call me back, they night he came home his eyes were dialated and he was lethargic and hadnt went to the bathroom, by weds morning he had thick saliva and drooling dark discharge and was very uncomfortable I had once again called the emergency line and Dr Klein insisted that it was normal and I had continued to question it, but Weds night He had fluid in his feeding tube and continued to have the same symptoms as he did earlier in the day and yet another call to Dr Klein, she again insisted that it was normal and to go ahead and feed and do his meds I was concerned and just new deep down things werent normal, By thursday morning things were even worse he had a hard time breathing and the same symptoms as before, at this point I had made over a dozen calls and not once did they ask me to bring him in they kept saying everything was normal- CLEARLY NOT! I called my local vet they said Osu is the one needing to handle maverick and his signs were NOT normal. At his 3;30 feeding time things were worse and I yet again called Dr klein, at this point my cat was not good she said to continue with the feeding and meds which I did, and she never once said bring him back in, she said if your so concerned I have an appointment friday morning. 20 minutes Later my cat died in my arms- MY LITTLE mavericks voice was not heard my cat suffered a horrible death and I had to go through that pain with him, He was never supposed to die let alone suffer. As a vet there job for their patients is any concerns they should of had him back in to evaluate what was going on NOT continue to say everything is normal. After the fact I reached out to OSU several times, not one apology, no one can take blame on the situation. Im told there is nothing they can do on their end and zero remorse. Every vet I know said they should of had him in asap with his symptoms and they shoved all this under the table. Im absolutely disgusted on the care and way they handled my situation and Im speaking for maverick and every other maverick out their they need to listen to their patients and this should never of happened and my baby should still be here but because of there un professional decisions he suffered a horrible death. And I will get justice for maverick!!!!!! Do your Job OSU. The way I was treated and my cat is ABSOLUTLEY DISGUSTING

Experiencia positiva: Not super thrilled with the care our dog received here. After a very brief exam by one of the vets, we were told that our dog needed to be hospitalized for his respiratory symptoms. We agreed and paid the 75% deposit. The next morning, another vet (resident) called and essentially told me our dog didn’t really need to be there and he could go home. It felt a little invalidating, and almost like we over reacted on the decision to hospitalize him. Our pup is home and doing well, which is all that matters, but it didn’t feel like either vet had much empathy or compassion in a very upsetting and overwhelming situation for us. I wish the communication had been better throughout the experience, so that I didn’t leave questioning the decisions made for my dogs care.

Experiencia negativa: I am highly dissapointed. We went here for my 10 year old little dog, who suddenly couldnt walk. She was limping, and then not walking. She would lay there, limp. My parents had mentioned it had happened before to their other dog Copper, who had the same thing happen, and he had to be put down. We got to OSU at 6 pm. They took our dog back, and didnt let us see her. For two whole hours. My parents had assumed she had a stroke at some point, because of how oddly she was limping. It was like her whole body was injured. On top of that, she had horrible labored breathing. The people told us that it was just her front right paw and that she had a fever. When we asked if she was walking they said yes, but yet, my dog couldnt walk when we got home. They then made us wait even longer before getting the medicine we needed for her. We left at 8 pm. Also, who charges for both an entrancefee and an exam fee like that? 420 wads the cost, when the medicine that was important for her was 12 each. It was a waste of time and money., when we couldve gone to some place else. Also, they dont tell you what they do to your dog back there.

Experiencia negativa: Never going back. I've now gone for multiple animals and always get an ultimatum of spending thousands or euthanasia. When I picked spending thousands , I was told they 'looked things up' and then decided my pet had to be euthanised. This is hours after going in, and ignoring what I brought the pet in for. These are family members to us. Disgusting. Absolutely disgusting. It should not have been this way.

Experiencia fantástica: Both of my dogs have received treatment at OSU, ranging from ophthalmology, to orthopedics, to neurology. Whether a planned visit or emergency visit, the medical staff is always timely and thorough with their examinations and questions. One of my dogs has a history of seizures in stressful situations (one of which is entering a bustling vet office). When the required check ups came around, the doctor and technicians came up with a truly out-of-the-box appointment method to keep him happy and relaxed. Sometimes the bills aren’t cheep, but I truly trust their judgement and knowledge - that is hard to put a price on. Thank you!

Experiencia negativa: I will no longer be bringing my horses or livestock here if I can help it. I have had multiple incidents in the last year where they have dropped the ball substantially. Recently, I brought a pig in for unexplained weightloss. THEY NEVER EVEN WEIGHED HER, even though they still spayed her and put her under general anesthesia. The intern could answer none of my questions. The blood work came back a week later, which is standard, on the 12thThe 27th, I am still calling for the results. They never called and never returned my messages. Even with the blood work, they were unable to read the results and gave me no answers. After finally getting a hold of a resident, he was able to help me somewhat and was understanding and listened to my complaints. Since COVID, they do not allow you to be present for exams in the equine department. This has led to multiple miscommunication issues for myself and clients, resulting in longer than necessary stays and again, no answers. All I am asking is to be present for the initial 15 minute exam where we can converse about symptoms I've noticed, what is normal for this horse and what is not, and questions the vet may have. I understand you cannot be in the hospital the entire time, I do not wish to do that, I would just like to be present for the exam. I do also understand it is a teaching hospital, I am fine with a new vet performing some of the exam or procedures, but by keeping me in the parking lot, not being able to answer questions, and having minimal communication, I feel more like my animal is being used as an experiment or test dummy than an actual PATIENT. Finally, this is a minor complaint, but the unprofessional appearance of some of the staff is disappointing in a professional environment.

Experiencia fantástica: Our cat, Polly Pocket, needed a FHO surgery. We live 2 hours away but chose OSU Vet to perform her surgery due to their outstanding reputation. And since Polly has cerebeller hypoplasia, we wanted the best care and understanding about her condition. Dr. Yoon, Vet Tech Hannah, and everyone else involved for Polly were beyond excellent! From the moment we entered the hospital, we were greeted with friendly faces. We didn't feel rushed, nor felt un-heard after all the questions we had. After the operation, they called several times to update us on everything which was very comforting for this worried fur momma! The next day we were able to take Polly home. They went over in full detail about post-op care and medications. Hopefully we won't have any pets needing surgery again but if we do, we will 100% chose OSU Vet again!

Experiencia negativa: I am very saddened to be writing this review. As a member of the vet community and former OSU grad, I have always held OSUVMC in very high esteem. It was always the place you go for top notch care and a supportive experience. When my own pet needed emergency care in November, I didn’t hesitate to take her to OSU over my own former employer, Medvet, due to this reputation. Sadly, the experience was anything but supportive. My dog ended up being in the ICU for 3 days during which time I was refused visitation rights. From the moment we brought her in the door of the ER, we never once saw even a photo of her until we picked her up. Being in the veterinary field myself with extensive experience, I am well informed to options for care. I understand OSU is where you go for top level care, but even after pushing for alternative treatments and voicing financial concerns, I was refused any paired down version of care because it was hospital policy to only do it one way. I understand that may be the case in some medical scenarios but my dog was stable and costs could have been contained better. After 3 days of refusing visitation and several thousands in treatments, I elected to pick up my dog to take her somewhere else for second opinion. After evaluation at another clinic, she was given the green light for safe treatment at home, when OSU wanted to keep her in the ICU for 2 more weeks. Luckily, we were able to get her the needed treatments to heal while caring for her at home and saving costs. At the time of pickup, we had a credit on our account for around $1400. The staff told me it is hospital policy to refund all clients via physical check in the mail and it would take 5-6 weeks to arrive. I was shocked by this as I’ve worked for several specialists and ERs who were able to refund via card within normal timelines. We also were not finished with treatment and $1400, at this point, could have made a huge difference in whether we would be able to continue treatment. This happened on November 30th. It is now February and I have yet to receive any communication or refund from OSU. I have attempted to call their accounting department every day for the last 2 weeks and am met with a voicemail each time, to which you never receive a call back. I have also emailed without response. 9 weeks have gone by and I cannot get a single person on the phone or even email to ask about the status of my refund. I will soon be seeking legal counsel on how to assist in receiving my funds. This experience has completely turned me off to OSUVMC. While the doctors and staff are fantastic in their medicine and bedside manner, the overall hospital policies have left me feeling disappointed. As someone who has both been a student and a client, OSUVMC was always a wonderful place delivering a wonderful client experience but it seems to have changed for the worse. I never once got the feeling that the client’s experience was taken into consideration. Much like human healthcare, the patient was all that mattered. That’s wonderful from a clinical perspective, but you must also consider that in veterinary medicine the owner is also the client and their experience and needs also need to be seen. That did not occur. OSUVMC- Please do better. Veterinary medicine requires compassion, something I know you used to have. My heart is breaking for all the clients who inevitably come through your doors and don’t have vet med experience to advocate for their pets the way I did. I fear without that knowledge my pet would have had a much worse outcome due to inabilities to communicate effectively and strict hospital policies limiting client decision making. Please note: this review is not a reflection of hospital staff. I realize hospital policy is a burden they carry and many times they take the brunt of client concerns. That is not my intention in this review. ER staff, CSRs, and DVMs were all wonderful outside those limitations.

Experiencia negativa: I started coming to this clinic with my first pet, a kitten. I wanted to make sure I was doing everything right and due to the lack of communication it has become and extremely complicated getting my kitten established. I brought my kitten in for a new patient exam about two weeks after I adopted her, per recommendation of the shelter. I sent them the medical history that was provided, including dates of her vaccines. It was found at the appointment that she would be due in two weeks for more vaccines. There were two vaccines that we discussed. They gave me the option to 1. Complete an exam today and in two weeks get vaccines only with no exam, or 2. Forget anything happened today and do vaccines and exam in two weeks. Being that I got my cat all ready and came all the way out, I wanted to get something done that day and chose option 1. Two weeks later, I come back for an appointment. Only one vaccine was completed and I look at my bill to see that I was also charged for another exam. I disputed this, as I was told no exam would be completed. The receptionist told me that due to my cat being under 6 months she needs an exam at every visit. Being that I was never told this, they did eventually refund the exam fee. I also asked why only one vaccine was completed instead of the two that we discussed and was told that the second wasn’t necessary due to her being an indoor cat. I later received a call from a clinician stating that the second vaccine is optional and if I chose to go through with it, I would get just the vaccine and no exam. This confused me as it conflicted, again, with what the receptionist told me about kittens under 6 months needing an exam at every visit. Due to all the complication I chose not to get the vaccine. At every visit, the clinician asked me if I had my kitten on flea/tick and heart worm medication. Every time I said no. The conversation would end there, but on the bill I would see in the “recommendations” section that these medications are recommended. Not knowing where to go, I searched online and found a flea/tick medication and found a heart worm medication on Chewy. The heart worm medication needed to be approved by my vet and of course it was denied. I had chosen the wrong weight, but I was confused because my kitten was borderline and has grown like a weed since they last weighed her. The pharmacy left me a message giving me an exact medication to order. I ordered it yesterday to find out today that it was, again, denied. I am decided to hold off on this medication until I can find a new vet. Being an OSU grad student myself, I wanted to be able to support a learning institution and provide experience to fellow students. I have also had clinical experience and can understand that these things happen, but this has all been too much. I will definitely not be back. Update: Regarding the refund check for the additional exam I was charged, it has been a hassle and reaching the accounting department has proven to be almost impossible. I received the refund check and deposited it into my bank account using a mobile app. I got notice about over week later that the money was removed from my account because OSU Vet Clinic’s bank declined to pay and I needed to bring the check in to my bank. By this time, I had destroyed the check, so I had been advised to request that OSU Vet Clinic write me a new check. I called the accounting department on at least three occasions during normal business hours but was sent to voicemail. I left a detailed voicemail each time and requested a call back and I never got one. I eventually took it upon myself to drive out to the clinic and talk to someone in person. The receptionist wasn’t able to help much, per my prediction, but she did mention that the accounting department was “bad about the phone” and provided me an email. My email thread with Julia is filled with the most passive aggressive, unhelpful language that I’ve ever experienced from any service representative. Weeks later, I received another check with no updates from accounting.

Experiencia negativa: Their doctors and residents are not compassionate at all towards pet owners. Considering that people bring their pets here for emergencies, they should be aware of the obvious that the owner wants to do everything they can to help their pets - and not constantly pressure the owner with either paying thousands of dollars to save their life or to euthanize. It felt like every 5 minutes I was asked what was my choice of those two options when I brought in my 2 month old kitten who suddenly fell ill that same day. One minute the cost is $2000-$3000, the next minute the estimate is $6000-$7000 (starting range) and a 7 day hospitalization. They said he tested positive for feline parvo even though he received his vaccine 4 days prior. No explanation as to how that could happen, and no other options were offered to provide him care. They said there was no medication they could prescribe him that would be strong enough to get him through the night, and that he would die before morning if he left the hospital. I still chose to take him home. His appetite came back, I fed him by hand and gave him water through a syringe. Bowel movements were back to normal. He was active and aware, moving around his room at home and using his litter box again. His little body was putting up such a big fight that I believe he could have won if they only offered him more options. He showed huge signs of improvement for three extra nights after being told he wouldn’t make it longer than a few hours. Don’t be afraid to take your pet to another vet for a second opinion.

Experiencia negativa: I never usually put my views and experiences out there but I just don't want this to happen to someone else. We brought our great Pyrenees in to the oncology department to have surgery to remove her cancerous tumor. We had been called about payments before they would proceed with any type of procedure. Which ok, I get. Thousands and thousands of dollars later, our beloved willow passes away. For one I am not a vet and don't act like I am, but They never gave us options of tacking her stomach into place knowing outcomes could be twisted stomach. I am extremly upset, I feel our baby would have lived. So, we go into the greiving room with our deceased dog crying hysterical and hear a knock at the door, asking if it was a good time for a payment. Like is the FOR REAL!!we ask for her leash back, the one we brought her with and they could not find it!!! We have never got it back to this day. We now get an email saying we still owe around 1,600 dollars. No call, no letter mailed to our address, no call like before telling us we owed more money.we have paid Over 10,000 to save our dog.

Experiencia fantástica: We recently brought our cat into OSU after exposure to lily toxin and it was immediately clear that OSU has some of the leading renal specialists and treatment methods in the country. Our cat had to stay at the center for a couple of days and during that time, the doctors were extremely communicative - the information they provided was clear and targeted to a non-specialist audience, making it easier to understand our pet’s diagnosis, treatment, and prognosis. All of the staff, students, and doctors (especially Dr Paschall and Emma) were amazing with us and with Oyster during a very stressful and scary time. They made us feel comfortable leaving our beloved pet in their care. Our subsequent follow-up visit was likewise very easy; everyone we worked with was so helpful. We could not be happier with how our pet was treated and would highly recommend OSU!

Experiencia negativa: One of the worst experience I’ve had in my entire life. They estimate WRONG, and they do it purposely. They would give you an amount verbally ( so that you would have no records ) then send you a bill that costs THREE TIMES MORE. My file is at ODC, I am not letting these people scam more people. Not only they estimated wrong /5000$ extra I had to pay/ but they couldn’t save my 4yo dog, and had to put him down. Because they miss diagnosed him.

Experiencia fantástica: I’ve been to OSU emergency room and now my German shepherd sees the neurologist at OSU due to her having seizure. The whole team has been very helpful especially Nicholas Lilly. He has personally put interest in helping my German shepherd. It really shows how much he cares for his job and the animals he handles. He has been working with me to help find ways to help my German shepherd with her seizures. I am beyond thankful for him and the amazing team.
