This is the best vet clinic I have gone to and I have been responsible for the medical care of generations of pets for more than 50 years. After some routine visits, I got a new rescue shepherd who got pneumonia. The diagnosis was swift; the antibiotics were effective. Her breathing rate went from 60 to 15 in the first 24 hours.

Everyone I've encountered there --from the front-desk staff to the vet techs to the doctors -- is professional, friendly, kind, and knowledgeable. No matter what is going on with my dogs, they've been enormously helpful. When I had a dog who was healthy, but easily frightened, I'd bring him in for veterinary massage, but he benefited the most from all the friendly greetings, snacks and excellent/kind handling he received.

We live in the northern suburbs and make the drive because the quality of care is incredible. The doctors always hear our concerns when it comes to medication or cost. They work hard to make sure we can give our animals the best care without compromising our preferences. They always explain exactly why they're making certain recommendations. Dr Jen is who I'd consider our "primary" but we've also seen Dr Laura and Dr Sarah often. All the doctors are amazing. The front desk team is also so kind and considerate and get to know all the animals that come through. When we lost our first dog, they were beyond compassionate and supportive.

One of them in particular needs a lot of medical attention and we have always been treated with compassion and respect. We have had great interactions across the board from the front desk,management, and vet techs, to the providers, but Dr Jessy is our favorite!

This Vet costs a little more than some others, and I have to drive across town, but its totally worth it to have a Vet I trust through the difficult moments with a pet.

For over 20 years, 2 cats, and 3 dogs, they have endured our helicoptering pet guardianship, and more importantly, taken great care of our pets from puppy-hood to the rainbow bridge. They do veterinary care, yes, but what they really do is relationships--with people and animals--and that includes working things out, finding options, being responsive, and listening.

I am a new cat owner and they have been great at helping me learn how to care for my kitten and now cat. Experiencia fantástica: Just had our first visit with out cat who is not a vet fan in the slightest. Dr Michelle and her team were kind, gentle, and understanding. They were extremely professional and their comfort radiates off them. It is an extremely relaxing environment and my cat who has traditionally never left his carrier at the vet was comfortable and curious. This is a great clinic.

Experiencia fantástica: Our senior dog could not stand on his own one morning, completely out of the blue. I called Lake Harriet and they got us right away. I was very emotional. The vet took a lot of time with us. She answered all my questions (even those that did not really have concrete answers, about the psychological wellbeing of my dog). They called the next day to check in and even loaned us a special harness so we could assist him with mobility. Fortunately, it was vestibular, so after 4 days or so we started to see improvement. He is still a little wobbly and has a slight head tilt, but he is walking on his own and back to living a normal, slightly slower, but good, life!

Experiencia fantástica: We started going to LHV after our eldest cat passed and we relocated to Minneapolis and no longer wanted to commute to St. Paul for vet visits. LHV was both close to us and highly reviewed. We've been taking our cats here for 4 years now. We have worked with several vets over the years, but Dr. Laura became our regular for our Siamese, Wiley. I don't think he would have lived to 19 without her care. We were able to detect many of his conditions very early on and manage them as best we could, even giving him Solensia for 2-3 years, which helped with the arthritis for a long time. All of the vet techs and front desk staff came to recognize our boy and would fawn over him when we brought him in each month for his shots. We're saying goodbye to Wiley today and it is a relief to know it can be with Dr. Laura. And when we had adopted a 9 year old black cat, Luci, who suddenly became gravely ill less than a year after we got him, LHV was there to help us make sense of it and ultimately say goodbye. The front desk team is also very friendly and kind. You really get the sense that they know you and your pet, that they pay attention. I would trust any animal with the LHV vets and staff. They are a lovely and knowledgeable team.

Experiencia positiva: What has happened to the quality at Lake Harriet Vet??? We've been going there since it first opened. For many years it used to be outstanding; ALL the vets, techs, front desk people were amazing. Now it's really hit or miss. Part of the staff is absolutely top notch and still incredible, while the others are disappointing and not nearly as consistently good as their colleagues. It seems this change happened around the time of the pandemic. I would still recommend Lake Harriet Vet because when you get a really excellent staff member the experience is great, but sometimes it's disappointing when you get some of the mediocre staff members -- I"ve been going there for long enough to recognize this change and it makes me sad. I'd really like to see them get back to being the premiere vet they once were.

I love that they will also consider alternative care options (acupuncture, massage, other methodologies) along with Western medicinal practices. They are patient and caring and they usually get me in fairly quickly. I used them when I lived in the Cities and I still use them even though it's a little bit of a drive. They will give you care options and estimated costs so you can make the right decision for you, your pet, and your bank account.

Experiencia fantástica: I just switched to Lake Harriet Vet from another local vet and we had a wonderful experience. I didn't like how my last vet would pressure me into all the vaccines and year-round heartworm/tick. My dog and I went in for an annual check up and met with vet Megan. Both her and the vet tech took time to get to know my dog and build trust with a lot of treats. They didn't pressure me into unnecessary vaccines and helped me to understand when I might consider certain ones. The whole visit was stress-free for my dog, she probably would want to go back for all of the treats she got. Their exam room was big and bright with a rug that we could sit on and interact with my dog. Definitely higher prices here but the care has been good.

That LHV often gives treatment options at multiple price points, when possible, and has referred me to other providers who could do things sooner or less expensively also makes me really trust them to have my pets best interest at heart. The excellent bike parking is a bonus!

Experiencia fantástica: We absolutely loved our first visit to the Lake Harriet Vet Clinic! We arrived a bit early, and they started our appointment early. Everyone was so nice and helpful. The vet sat with us for a full 20 minutes providing information and answering our questions. She offered a mix of Western and more holistic/alternative types of care (ex. to handle arthritis, we talked about both pain medication but also giving her ramps so that jumping was less painful). Very excited to finally feel like we have a vet that partners with us to care for our dog!

Every vet we have had there and every vet tech and every front desk person has been kind, respectful of us and our pooches, and professional. The vets take the time to introduce themselves to our dogs, getting down on the floor if needed, and they are up-to-date on medical information. They are worth the time it may take to get an appointment. Plus our dogs love the treats!

The Vets and Staff are very friendly and understanding of my pandemic puppy who has more anxiety at the vet. My social butterfly pup has become very popular and loved, and he enjoys his monthly visits for Librela.

They take time to listen to me, give my pets a thorough and thoughtful examination, and explain what they are seeing/doing with my pets, and truly offer the best treatment available. Experiencia positiva: My male cat was having urinary tract problems. He weighs 18#, so getting him to the vet is a two person maneuver. Dr. Megan Schommer was thorough and thoughtful. The Assistants were kind. In a timely manner they did necessary testing and provided me with medication. Dr. Megan called me on a holiday weekend with the results of the cultures that were done and even informed of a product that removes cat odor. I recommend them highly because they use allopathic and complementary therapies and very kind. The don't market the latest and greatest new medication or a lot of extra unnecessary vaccinations to my cats. I'm very happy with the care my animals receive. 02//10/2025 Kliban, my 5#, 18 year old tabby, was seen by Dr. Jim last week. He charmed the old lady cat, examined her, informed me about her needs, and clipped her claws. I love the staff for there caring service.

Experiencia fantástica: Choosing a vet is a very emotional decision because pet ownership is very emotional. I've been incredibly happy with the care my cat has received from LHV since 2020 when I switched from another local vet. Routine care is reasonably priced (when I called around in 2017 and 2020) and urgent care can be scheduled quickly. They're thoughtful, thorough, and personable. I trust their advice and they will match my earnestness and level of care treatment I feel comfortable with.

Experiencia negativa: 2nd update: front desk staff is nice as usual. Frustrated with the tech situation. My dog has been getting cytopoint for years and recently started librella, however each time we go for shots it's a different tech. Today the tech first tried to take my dog in the back and I have never allowed that and I know it says it in the chart. Second we did both injections this time and the tech did the shot weird, slowly inserted the needle all the way in at a 45 degree angle, and injected. My dog turned his head back and flinched, he has NEVER even flinched with the cytopoint. Then for the librella the tech did it again the same way and my dog growled and snapped, the tech hadn't even got the full injection in (which tells me the person doesn't know what they are doing or haven't done it enough) and then had to stick him again to get the rest of the injection in. Even the person holding him (who I like a lot, she has long reddish hair) didn't expect my dog to do that because she has held for us before. My dog already hates the vet, and I'm very upset that now he's had a very negative experience. Plus, once a dog does that they make notes in your chart saying your dog is aggressive. My dog shouldn't be labeled like that when the tech did the shots weird/wrong. Also I said I had a question about the librella and that tech said ok so you see Dr Jim Sinning and I said no, we've seen him like once 2 years ago. Just an all around bad experience and one that makes me think this place isn't it any longer. The front desk staff was kind and attentive when I complained about this. Update: Everyone is always very nice. So hard to get an appt these days. Pretty expensive vet practice. Dr. Palmieri was wonderful. She knew I was nervous for our first visit and she updated me multiple times by phone to tell me how my pup was doing. It's hard to tell how things are going when you can't go in with your pup, and mine hates the vet anyway, but he seemed calm and comfy when he came out. She examined him thoroughly and offered me several options to help him be more comfortable as it ended up he needs surgery for a leg injury.

Everyone is so kind and friendly from the front desk (shout out to Sophie - love her) to the techs and then their Doctors can’t be beat!! I very recently had to make a very hard decision and Dr Jen was so caring and compassionate and made it as peaceful and personal as possible - can’t thank her enough!! I think I have been seen by most of the Doctors and would feel very comfortable in recommending all of them. Dr Jim just saw my pet and he has the magic touch - my pet let him do just about anything to her when getting examined. The staff is helpful, kind and patient and they always take time to explain things to us and make sure we feel comfortable. We now have two dogs we send there and both of them try to drag us in to get treats if we walk by! I would definitely recommend their services!

Experiencia negativa: Called in for advice on our sick puppy. (We have 2 pets as patients here) Reception was great, but the Tech who called back was so condescending, rude and declined to help. The advice was to find another clinic today (a weekend) and hung up. Pretty disappointed in the lack of care. Will be establishing vet care elsewhere.

Experiencia fantástica: Lake Harriet Vet made a contribution to Companion Animal Fund after my special friend of 18 years, Roswell, recently passed away. It has been a difficult time for me and I haven't always handled this as well as I should have. Lake Harriet Vet has shown they cared a great deal about Roswell and I really appreciate that.

We’ve been coming here for years and treating our dogs from puppyhood thru their senior years. Using acupuncture and the usual trips, it’s been a pleasure with each visit. Our dogs have had the easiest going personalities to one with fear based unease and all have been treated with open arms and all have felt calm and welcoming. They have helped us make some difficult decisions regarding health situations and always have the best advise.

Experiencia fantástica: I can’t say enough good things about Lake Harriet Veterinary. My 14 year old American Pit Bull Terrier mix has been going to LHV a majority of the time I’ve had him, and my 1.5 year old Staffordshire Bull Terrier has only ever had them as her primary vet. Both of my dogs receive lots of compliments at other clinics (emergency, speciality) on their behavior when they’ve had to go elsewhere - and I attribute that to the care and kindness they always receive at LHV. They always feel safe - and actively pull me into the clinic to see their “aunties”. I am a very overly cautious pet owner who trusts very few people to care for my pets. I love being able to walk into LHV and feel completely safe and content with whoever is involved with my pets’ care. LHV is always accommodating and kind when a health issue comes up. My older boy has cancer, and they keep up to date and in contact with his oncologist to make sure they can help provide the care he needs. When my younger girl had an emergency after hours they immediately checked in on her the next day when they received the emergency clinic records. Their prices are pretty average for the area, and the care they give is unmatched. Throughout the years I’ve had appointments with every single doctor, and I’ve met every tech, every assistant, and every receptionist. All provide top notch care and my dogs love every one of them. The doctors are upfront and honest with their recommendations, and they talk to me without “dumbing down” or sugarcoating things - which I greatly appreciate. Truly a gem of a clinic!

Experiencia fantástica: I cannot say enough in one review to capture the all the things I love and appreciate about Lake Harriet Vet. If you are reading reviews because you are looking for the very best vet to care for your animals, then you probably love them like family. LHV feels more like you are going yo a family doctor than a veterinary clinic. My animals have received everything from annual wellness care to acupuncture, to cancer treatments here and I can’t imagine going anywhere else. They even helped me before and after the very difficult process of saying goodbye to my little furry loved one. You can trust LHV.

Dr. Jessy is our main vet, but all of the techs and vets have been excellent to us. They take the time to listen to us, and answer all our questions. And they are so gentle and calm with the cats. It's plain to see that they really love their patients.

Experiencia fantástica: I started using Lake Harriet Veterinary in 2021 with my then new puppy and senior dog. I have been so pleased with the service and care they have provided both my dogs and me. I know we are in good hands no matter who our appointment it with, I have had the pleasure to meet all the Doctors. They actively listen to my concerns, observations and answers my questions with care. They have always made me feel like I am their main focus during these appointments and send home detailed instructions when needed. I am especially impressed with they way they all have navigated my young dog as he can be fearful and barky when in the exam room. Experiencia fantástica: Oh my! Where would I be without Lake Harriet Vet and Dr Jessy?! My sweet dog has had no shortage of health issues, truly a gamete of inherited and happenstance health issues and Dr Jessy has helped me navigate it all. I had tried a few clinics in the area and I’ve been happy to call Lake Harriet home. They are experienced, they’ve helped me where other vets were stumped, they promote different modalities of healing from western to eastern, something I practice for myself and is a natural translation for my pet, and they truly care. I have tons of respect and appreciation as they do things like help layout how to get my dog to a healthy weight, explain the costs associated to treatment, and talk me through how to tend to my dogs needs. One challenge has been finding a food for my dog. The shops where I buy food from praise my vet for setting me up with good information and we’ve eventually found something that works for her. I love my dog and I want to keep her healthy for as long as possible, I think that’s totally possible with Lake Harriet. Update: Years later and the still are very thorough and caring towards my dog and I. My dog has had weird things happen but their quick action and follow up each time has been great.

Experiencia fantástica: Dr. Sarah is the best vet I’ve had in the 20+ years I’ve had dogs. She is patient and nonjudgmental with my fear reactive pup and doesn’t get short or frustrated with my dog the way other vets and techs have in the past. She’s incredibly knowledgeable and provides me with all the resources, guidance, and answers I need as an anxious dog parent. If your pet struggles with vet anxiety, I recommend going to Lake Harriet Veterinary.

Experiencia fantástica: Lake Harriet vet has the kindest, most patient, knowledgeable staff of any vet clinic we've had over the 15+ years of having pets. Our dog isn't the easiest patient (dog reactive and anxious around new people) AND he has chronic ear infections due to allergies, which means we're frequent fliers at the clinic. Every interaction (phone calls and visits) the staff make both us humans and our dog feel so cared for. When our dog ended up at an emergency vet clinic over the weekend, Lake Harriet called us Monday morning to check on him. When we've had urgent medical concerns, they work hard to try to fit us in same day. We love Lake Harriet Vet and recommend them to everyone.
