They were able to get me in right away, which I really appreciated given how worried I was about her. From the moment we arrived, the entire staff was kind, professional, and incredibly attentive. What really stood out to me was how much they genuinely cared. Not only did they take great care of Sammie during the appointment, but they also followed up multiple times afterward just to check in and see how she was doing. That level of care and attention means A LOT to me. Experiencia fantástica: Years ago I used to only take my dogs to union hill animal hospital. I loved them and even though I felt like it was overpriced it was worth it to me. I noticed some changes but still I swore it was the only vet I’d take my animals too. Fast forward to now, my husband and I have been living up north for 3 years. He’d always take his pets to Antioch and as our dog family grew I slowly started taking our dogs there because it was so close. The first thing I noticed was how cost effective it was, and they always break down the prices before so you’re not just leaving and get hit with a 1000 dollar bill. You always know exactly what they’re charging you for and I’ve never felt like I’ve been overcharged. Honestly more times than not I feel like they undercharge. With three dogs emergencies happen and they always tend to happen when the vets are closed and appointments are full. Last night my little Lew hurt his leg and I saw they open at 8am but had no available appointments. I brought him in first thing when they opened anyways, and they saw my sweet Lew without an appointment. Now this isnt the first time they’ve done this for me, but this was the first emergency my older dog has had so I was extra worried they might not be able to see him on such a short busy day. (They close at 12 on Saturday) The doctor saw me immediately and they got my baby all fixed up and pain free. I was out of of there before 9am. Union hill is a great vet but every time I go to Antioch I’m reminded why I switched. From the front desk to the doctors you’re surrounded by people who just want to help. I truly feel like they want what’s best for my animals. I can’t express my gratitude enough for fitting in my dog today. You guys helped him and in turn helped me. You are all hero’s. Thank you. Thank you. Thank you.

Experiencia fantástica: My sweet girl has been poorly handled at a vet nearby that I thought had her best interest at heart. I went out on a limb and tried a second opinion. It didn’t take long at Antioch to realize just how much me and her were being treated only like transactions at the last vet office. I don’t live with my head in the sand, these things cost money and can be quite expensive sometimes, especially when lab work and/or x-rays or needed. Dr Ballenger saved my dog’s life, I’m absolutely convinced of it. She is always kind and patient with both Daisy’s and mine emotions and is understanding. Dr. B has given very great recommendations and referred some specialty type items to a cardiologist that also worked very well in Daisy’s health. I think she can see that neither Daisy Duke or myself are ready to give up. She thinks differently from other vets. She really works through the problem, is flexible and her actions show that she actually cares. If anyone said an ill word about this woman, I’d have to say they are ignorant or have horribly misjudged her. Thank you so much for taking such tender care of my poor baby dealing with heart failure. Thank you for answering my crazy amount of questions and actually thinking through the answers instead of dismissing me. This place is the premium of vet care and in my personal experience, Dr. B is at the helm of that balance. We quite literally game plan together with her expertise and treat medicine as it is, an art. I know my little Angel won’t be here forever, but because of you, she can spend her last days in comfort and dignity. The staff and techs are great too, I don’t understand some of these comments…treat them decent like the human beings they are, and they will return the favor. People, take your beloved pets here, they will take care of you. More importantly, they will take care of your loved one.

I’ve taken my animals here for over 15 years and no more.! took my two pets in separate times first for an anal gland abscess and second one for blood in urine, they charged $800 for the first one which I paid thinking it was all necessary and again today they tried charging me $800 for the second animal with urine in blood (I left with assumption of UTI) and left with one bottle of antibiotics for it, this was at best a $200 fix for the work provided, do not bring your fur babies here without expecting to pay over $500 on site, I’m taking my dogs elsewhere moving forward

No one is ever required to proceed with care they are uncomfortable with.
When a pet has not been seen at our hospital previously or within the last year, an exam is required in order to establish a valid veterinarian–client–patient relationship and to ensure we are acting in the pet’s best interest before performing any medical services, including euthanasia.
We take accusations of taking advantage of grieving families very seriously, and that is not reflective of our values or how our team practices. We welcome the opportunity to discuss concerns privately with the pet’s legal owner.
Experiencia negativa: This is the worst vet office in kansas city! The front office ladies are very rude and unwilling to help with an issues. They only care about getting your money, they don't care about your pet. Dr. Ballenger showed no empathy in our appointment she was more worried about vaccinations then the problem. Save yourself the stress and take your loved one some where else. This place is the worst! Of course this office would deflect blame.

Experiencia negativa: As of yesterday I will not be going back there after about 15 years. Don't know what happened to the place but it's a crappy place anymore. They gave me drugs for my 1 year old puppy that had to be given 3 hours before I brought her back for an anual gland fix. Tech a.sk if she had her drugs and when? I said 3 hours ago like you said. Took her back brought her back out in just a few minutes ( also had to put a muzzle on her) saying she's not letting us do it so we'll give you stronger drugs and you can try bringing her back.. I'm like you want me to drug her again,? I said maybe I should look for another vet.. well she just won't let us do her glands.... I left went to another vet by Antioch center made an appointment for this morning. They said we can give her a shot to relax her and get it done. Took her this morning they got her glands done without giving her a shot... So let be clear.. she won't lets us do it? Means you shouldn't be in this field. The other place got it done less then 10 minutes... Very disappointing we've been going there for a long time. But hey on a better note I not only found a vet that can do it they're even way cheaper in everything like vaccines and such....

The staff is so kind and I would definitely come back. Doctor was knowledgeable and thoughtful. Very clean, professional yet cozy inside. Leaving my cat overnight for his care doesn’t leave me feeling worried. Experiencia fantástica: I have been going here since my childhood cat I got in 2005. Now I bring my own cat and dog and they have been and still are amazing, kind, and compassionate. My new dog has gotten into some things and they were so understanding and compassionate when we brought him in. highly recommend and love the staff!

Experiencia fantástica: I brought my 2 Huskys, Max & Juneaux to be boarded with them in 1998 before we even moved into our new home & life. Dr. Michael Hodgson has given us very competent, compassionate care and honest opinions with those 2, then Nico the big red Husky, 2 cats, Menew & Baby then my last Hysky, Luca, an abused rescue from southern Kansas. He went through an ordeal, poor guy, and now I'm entrusting his team with my 2 fur babies, 3 yr old Koko the Vizsla, and Zoey, who I believe is a 35 lb. Tasmanian Devil mix. I can't give a higher recommendation.

Experiencia negativa: My regular vet was not available so we used Animal dogs and cats for a cat with respiratory problems. They treated the cat and did x rays. Few weeks later cat had same problem. I called them asked to transfer the x rays to my regular vet. They promised to do it next day. I did go to the vet after 2 days reccords and X rays were not tranfered.

Experiencia fantástica: I called an hour before closing with my cat in extreme distress, sobbing my brains out. They were able to slot me in last minute, waived the emergency fee because I was financially unstable, and took excellent care of my little angel. We’ve had everything from a lily emergency with my cats to our 12-year-old dog being diagnosed with cancer and living another eight months with excellent quality of life. When it was time to say goodbye, Doc came to our home and helped her cross rainbow bridge in the most compassionate, humane way possible. I have 3 cats and a senior dog left and they will always remain in his/their care. Their prices aren’t the cheapest, but their care and professionalism is unmatched. I’ve never once doubted their judgment or treatment.

Experiencia fantástica: Don't take your animals there. They let my dog suffer for 5 days despite one visit and 2 phone calls, she was no better. Took her to another vet and she was on the wrong dose of steroids and ineffective meds. 4 days into different meds and the right dose of steroids, she was 50% better. Although they swore she was on the right meds and she just needed time to let the meds work. Won't ever go back there.

If you care about your animals do not ever take them to this place.

Experiencia negativa: ***THIS REVIEW IS NOT FOR THE ACTUAL VETS - Dr. Carr and Dr. Hodgson are amazing. I've also never had ANYTHING but positive experiences with the girls up front... or any techs. This is about changes in the ownership - likely a corporation, unfortunately. Yes, costs have increased. Yes, they're more expensive than other vets. I can overlook increased costs for the level of expertise provided by Dr Hodgson and Dr Carr. It may be that my last visit was with a new young vet that was afraid to make decisions based on the pet condition rather than office policies. She seemed defensive, not understanding, when I voiced concerns. So here's the deal. Please be advised - if you have a geriatric pet and wish for a comfort-only approach for their final days, months, whatever - they have policies that require certain additional services. ---They require you have their rabies vax updated ----- even while acutely ill ----- even if the cat is 20 years old ---They now require you have labs drawn to monitor their systemic functions depending on the meds they receive. ---- even if the cat is 20 and likely has some baseline renal failure Dr. Hodgson has always been willing to provide this type of (comfort-guided) care to my pets as they aged. Treatment involved for my 20yo cat included a steroid injection for her discomfort. I couldn't get in to see Dr Hodgson on my last visit, so we saw this newer vet. She stated it was mandatory that my cat be vaccinated for rabies during that visit. When I refused, she said I could speak to the office manager about it. Then she stated it was necessary for them to run labs to check her renal function since she would be receiving a steroid shot. I refused that, too. At the direction of the office manager (who was gone for the day) she provided me with a printed "estimate" for those required services should I visit again (rabies vax and labs). I never went back. In my opinion, unnecessary labs and vaccinations are counterproductive for an old pet, especially if you want them to live out the rest of their days in comfort without aggressive treatment. I knew my cat was declining and I told the vet that. She stated that cats can live up to 20-something years and who knows when she would die (please listen to an owner if they tell you they know something about their pet - especially if they indicate they have a background in healthcare). My sweet cat peacefully passed away at the new vet's office approximately 2 weeks ago... I knew she was approaching the end which is why I said it. I also found it unprofessional for her to state they're "still working on him" when I mentioned how Dr Hodgson did not require those additional services when I was last there (according to her, the new policies were already in place at that time). He is a very experienced, very professional vet and to imply he needs any type of "working on" to change his professional judgment seems unprofessional. He cared for my first black lab and towards the end of her life, he was supportive of a comfort-based approach. Another male vet that was there for a very long time (no longer there now), he was also very good like Dr H... he put our 1st lab down after 13 years and within 2 days I had a card with very kind words written by him and signed by the entire staff...they were so good to us when it was time to say goodbye to her. The final thing that annoyed me - I requested a copy of my 4yo labrador and 20yo cat vet records They said they'd be emailed to me. Weeks later, they were not. I requested again and they stated they needed to get vet approval - they never responded. Finally, on the day that I took both pets to a new vet, the girl at the front desk said "here, I'll call them right now." She did and they provided her with the information she needed but I do not believe they faxed over the records. Also, I have yet to hear anything back from them. I will update this review if I ever receive those records.

The Veterinarians and staff were wonderful as Trixie grew I'll and passed away. They've been great with Jazz our Chocolate Lab, whose still kicking at 14. They've also handled our tiny additions: 8 week old Bonnie who is now a thriving 2.5 year old Great Pyrenees/ Mastiff mix weighi g in at 90ish pounds and 6 week old Clyde, who came to us very I'll and in need of special care. Clyde is now a happy, healthy 1 year old Australian Shepherd/ Great Pyrenees mix. We have all of their vaccinations, procedures, and wellness visits at Antioch Dog &Cat Hospital. They provide sound, reasonable care options and always give you pricing upfront. They even go out of their way to find coupons, rebates and other discounts for their clients. 5-stars love them!

Experiencia fantástica: I can't say enough good about Antioch Dog and Cat Hospital and staff. My French bulldog overheated, she was literally dying before my eyes. My normal vet and the ER vets were too far of a drive for her to have a chance to survive. I tried 2 other vets that turned me away, When I walked in with a dying dog in my hands, they immediately stepped into action and literally saved her life. They made her a priority and I will forever be grateful, and recommend to anyone needing pet medical care, you can be assured you will get the best. To add, they also set up her transfer with all her records to the ER vet as she needed overnight monitoring and additional care. I also received a follow up text the next morning giving me an update of how Bella was doing at the ER vet.

Experiencia negativa: My wife and I have been going here for years and we've always felt like our pets got a higher level of care. Sadly, we lost our 15 year old dog, followed 6 weeks later by our 19 year old cat. Our dog was not small and while I thought $500 for cremation was a bit steep, I was not thrilled that the same process for our cat totaled more than $600 due to a change in the hospital's process. They now outsource the cremation to a company called "Trusted Journey". You'll now pay $313+ for euthanizing, then $330+ to get your furry soul mate back. Best part? The urn is now 1/3 the size! What a joke "Trusted Journey". I understand it's easy to lash out right now. It's just frustrating when people charge more because they can and the overall level of service becomes mediocre. I'm calling it like it is.

Experiencia fantástica: I'm very happy with how quickly I was able to get my cat seen when she had a swollen lower jaw that was swollen and bleeding. When I called that Sat. morning, I got got appt. My cat got pain medicines and antibiotics. She got a biopsy which surprised the vet with the bloody fluid withdrawn. (As far as I known it was a diabetic abscess although no one has confirmed or denied this.) I got an appt for Monday morning to get her jaw wound cleaned out which it was. Since then, my cat has been treated for diabetes and responding well to insulin injections and quickly recovered from her jaw 'clean up.'. My rating is 5 stars for a responsive and caring treatment.

If I would have read some of these reviews I would have known not to bring my dog. My dog wanted to leave the whole time , should have been a red flag there too. They are not open about charges either, I had to ask what I was going to be charged for. $90 for a nail trim? You are out of your mind. These people are in it for money, not to help animals.

Experiencia fantástica: Taking our cats to the doctor is stressful for them and me. The two kitties were yowling with fear from the car ride, so one of the staff put a pheromone-infused towel over each cat carrier which helped them calm down. The exam was quick, and their vaccinations were quick and easy - the cats didn't even wince. They were also able to apply flea treatments for each. The doctors and staff made our visit as painless and comfortable as possible. Thank you.

Experiencia negativa: I had a dog years ago who had cancer. I couldn't afford treatment so I took her home to be with her as long as possible. Now I have a cat who has Fiv which is fatal also. He's dehydrated and hasn't eaten hardly anything in two weeks. He is having diarrhea and throwing up.I took him here for help. I couldn't get him into the low cost vet. These people made me wait 45 minutes while they tried to get info from the old vet. I waited another 10 minutes with the receptionist. I am 82 years old have a bad back and was in pain. They never came out to do anything. I left. They could have given him fluids at least to make him a little more comfortable. All they want is more money to make the poor thing last longer. Believe me I've spent many hours agonizing about putting him down but he's miserable. Now they say I owe them 63.50 for an office visit where they did no counseling with me or treatment for him. What has happened to the veterinary industry.

It is important to us to provide excellent care specific to your pet's needs. We tried to get records from all three of the past veterinary clinics you had been to but we are at their mercy with the timeline of getting those records. Due to the history you described above for your pet, we did not want to pursue a treatment that would not be in the best interest of Smokey. Our veterinarian did do a full exam and spent time discussing his condition with you in the room, thus the examination fee that is still due. While I cannot speak for the veterinary industry as a whole, our practice is focused on quality medicine based on your pet's total health and wellbeing. We want to be fully informed of your pet's history to make those decisions.

Experiencia fantástica: I never write reviews, so for me to write this one says a lot about Antioch Dog and Cat Hospital and its wonderful staff. For all of you cat owners out there, this is the place to go. I usually like to bring my cats to a cat-only clinic; however, they can sometimes be miles away. As a cat owner knows, most cats do not travel well. I landed at Antioch Dog and Cat Hospital because my cat kept having symptoms, but I was getting no answers from the other clinic we were going to. My cat was a feral kitten, and his personality reflects that. Dr J and Alex P were absolutely wonderful with him. They took the time to calm him and showed that they were understanding of his demeanor. They were kind and gentle with him, which is what was needed for him to be calm. They ran some tests and were able to figure out what was going on with him. He’s now healthy and happy thanks to Dr J and Alex P!

Experiencia fantástica: I love this veterinarian's office. I've been with this vet for 18 years. Dr Hodgson has been there the whole time. He's great. I hope he never retires. Dr. McLaughlin is equally as wonderful. And the girls that work there. The best. The front desk girls Christina M., Sarah, and Erin always help me with my insurance paperwork and are so nice. They are a lot of fun too. And then there's the techs. Emily and Lauren. They are really sweet too. I live the way Lauren baby talks to my dogs. I know my dogs are taken care of when I take them there. And I know my dogs love them too.

Experiencia fantástica: This is Princezz Jazzmin. Her favorite place to go is Antioch Dog and Cat Hospital. Christina M and Sarah, front desk, love when she comes in. Both of these ladies give her so much love and attention. These ladies also take the time to talk with you and listen to your concerns, making sure the Doctor's are aware of any and all problems that Jazzy may have. Every staff member is polite and welcoming. We have an adult husky who we brought there during a scary time and they were amazing with us, we have kept Gucci there ever since. Experiencia fantástica: The wait was a bit long (probably 15-20 minutes) for a nail trim, but the staff were very friendly and offered some great tips for my dogs. I also went on a Saturday so it was a bit busy and I called that day and they were able to get them in. Thank you, will come back!

Experiencia negativa: I will never bring another animal to these money hungry people again! I tried to give them a chance when my dog had a tumor on his leg. They wanted to do a bunch of unnecessary stuff that was all really expensive. I decided to not have them treat him and took him to our regular vet that is quite a bit further away. They were able to remove his tumor and prescribe meds for less than half the price that Antioch wanted to charge me. Today I took my small puppy we just adopted to them for diarrhea and lethargy because I couldn’t find anyone else that could get her in today. They did a parvo test that came back “positive” and told me that I needed to pay for their treatment that the shelter doesn’t do. I told them I couldn’t afford that and would rather take her to the free parvo clinic at KCPP. The vet then told me if I couldn’t afford their treatment then I shouldn’t have adopted her. I left and took her to KCPP who did a snap test and blood work and both came back negative. They lied to me to try and get me to pay them $400 for a treatment that she didn’t need. I’m disgusted by everything I’ve seen from them!
