Viscaya Prado Veterinary Hospital: Reviews
Fantastic experience: Dr Kroll is the best veterinarian I have encountered in more than 50 years of veterinary medicine I have experienced. His kindness is unmatched and he truly cares for my critters. I’m so grateful for Doc. The support staff is amazing. From the people who answer the phone to check in and check out the staff members are incredibly kind.
Fantastic experience: Great customer service. Front desk is always courteous and professional.
Fantastic experience: Veterinarians are very knowledgeable, and kind. Good with the animals and the pet parents. Staff very professional and knowledgeable. It usually does not take very long to get an appointment. They do have emergency hours at night if needed. Large selection of veterinary pet foods available. We have 2 cats. One is 12 weeks old, and one is 17. I trust them with care for Both of them. Love this place!
Negative experience: Front desk workers are pleasant. Dr Edward’s is slow and rude.
Fantastic experience: Best animal hospital ever as far as I’m concerned !! Doctor Lisa Monte saved my baby girls life 7 years ago and we’ve been not only forever grateful , we’re so very also so very thankful to all the most outstanding, caring, passionate , dedicated staff I’ve ever had the privilege of entrusting my precious girl with !! My Harley Quinn actually can’t wait to get in the building and see all the welcoming staff !! 10 out of 10 for me
Negative experience: If I could give 1 star I would. Money grabbing establishment. Brought my dog 3 days ago had pneumonia 700$ later they say to call back if he worsens to see what c Can be done. Fast forward to today trying to get more antibiotics a Or a steroid they want me to bring him back. They know hes aggressive and hard to get near to xray etc. So now they want to charge me another vet visit on top of whatever else instead of just calling in the prescription. I dont even know how dr edwards got her license. DO NOT TAKE YOUR ANIMALS HERE. The technicians don't do anything to try to help starting to wonder how much they really know.
Fantastic experience: Outstanding service. our new regular vet!
Fantastic experience: Winston had the blue plate special. Snip-snip, dew-claws,and baby teeth removed. Dr Melloh is so compa, caring and an excellent surgeon. All my pets have gone to Viscaya Veterinarian Hospital. Nothing but expert care and ❤️ love.
Fantastic experience: I called my vet because my little guy injured his hip and I needed hi. To be seen right away. My vet told me they were to busy and recommended Viscaya Prado Veterinary Hospital. I called and they co I ld see him in an hour which was fine because it is a bit further than my vet. I arrived early they checked me in and explained the Vet had an emergency co e in and I may have to wait a bit. They kept me updated and got me as soon as possible. The technician was so sweet and made sure my little guy was okay. The doctor came in, she was so good with him, suggested a few things but knew his problem , gave me meds to help him and asked me to call her in a few days to check on him. For an emergency the bill was surprising less than I pay my current vet. Needless to say I am changing to Viscaya Prado.
Negative experience: The fact that this place is still open is insane! Do yourself a favor and take your babies to East West on Del Prado! Super caring staff, who take their time with your pets and don’t treat you like shit and write you off because they are too lazy to do the job they signed up for!
Fantastic experience: Dog became very ill on a Sunday. Called and they took him right in. Found to be diabetic. Blood work, fluids and insulin. Dr. Montero was excellent!
Fantastic experience: Many different fur babies over the yrs. They're reliable, explain everything
Negative experience: This place is a joke, I’ve been taking my dogs here for YEARS! And it’s literally just gotten worse and worse as the time goes on. I brought my dog in today (she will be 7 in February) she has hyperkeratosis on her paw pads, was really hoping they’d do SOMETHING literally ANYTHING AT ALL. You know considering I pay 105$ to even be seen for a “physical exam” yet the doctor who I could barely understand (older Indian guy) did the literal bare minimum and even that is giving him too much credit. Only checked her heart rate and looked at her paws. Didn’t check her teeth, didn’t check her temperature, didn’t feel her to make sure her tumor hasn’t grown anymore like literally did NOTHING I paid 105 dollar for a physical exam they didn’t even perform. Not to mention they offered NO HELP for her hyperkeratosis. Didn’t dremel her paws WHEN I LITERALLY BROUGHT THE DREMEL WITH ME, didn’t prescribe an antibiotic which is absolutely mind blowing to me. Just basically said “yeah you guys can dremel her paws at home” WHAT?!!!!!! ISNT THAT HIS JOB THAT I PAY HIM FOR!!! Not only that but he also talked me out of getting her bloodwork done. She’s at that age where I’d like to check her levels and make sure she is okay. He goes “yeah not necessary, she’s not that old, if she had cancer there’d be symptoms” so he refused to do that. Refused to help with her hyperkeratosis but then proceeded to tell me she needs to lose weight. Well how can she when she can BARELY WALK BECAUSE OF THE HYPERKERATOSIS ON HER PAW PADS that makes it painful for her to walk at all. So overall cost was 246$ and I walked out with more questions than I had prior to coming in and absolutely no solution for my dog other then she needs to lose weight. I work in the medical field, I can tell when someone DOESNT WANT TO DO THEIR JOB!!! Place is a joke and I’ve been a loyal customer for 6 years: and this is what it gets me, absolutely nothing. No help for my dogs paw pads, no bloodwork, nothing. Just a hefty vet bill and a 105 dollar “examination fee” when he didn’t even examine her. A JOKE. The least yall could do is refund me so I can find a REAL vet to HELP my dog. I’ll be making a call to the BBB first thing tomorrow morning, don’t worry I recorded everything.
Fantastic experience: Kind, caring staff. Cant say enough good things about them. All of them. The way they went above and beyond to help our Nessie was amazing in today's world.
Negative experience: On August 18th, 2025, Dr. Mason Freed neutered one of my dogs. Unfortunately, this experience turned into a long and distressing ordeal due to repeated errors and negligence at this clinic. First, my dog was given an e-cone that was too short, and as soon as we got home one of the stitches on the incision fell out. When I called the next morning, instead of suggesting a proper cone, a technician told me to buy a $45 onesie from PetSmart, which did not solve the issue. The next day, the incision reopened. Dr. Freed attempted to fix it with glue, but that failed as well. On Sunday, August 24th, I was forced to return and saw Dr. Krishnaswami. This veterinarian recommended using staples but insisted on sedating my dog, even though I later learned that this procedure can be done without anesthesia. Not only was my dog unnecessarily sedated, but only one staple was placed—and in the wrong spot. Despite this inadequate treatment, I was billed as though another neutering procedure had been performed. By Wednesday, the incision reopened again. On my third visit, Dr. Altman finally closed the incision correctly with two staples, without sedation, in less than five minutes, and also provided a longer cone. This was the type of care I should have received from the beginning. Throughout this ordeal, I was never properly informed about aftercare, such as the need to return for staple removal. I only learned that later by chance, when I brought another one of my dogs for a visit. I also requested to speak with the office manager, but never received a call back. This entire experience caused unnecessary pain and stress for my dog, as well as significant financial and emotional burden for me. In my opinion, this is a clear case of malpractice, marked by negligence, improper treatment, and failure to communicate with the client. For these reasons, I strongly urge pet owners to stay away from Viscaya-Prado Veterinary Hospital.
Negative experience: I am never one to make posts but this seems very necessary given how many residents take their pets to Viscaya Prado Veterinary Hospital. On Friday July 18th my 6 year old dog (NO health issues of any kind) was outside playing with my husband and our other dog. My husband threw a toy for them & both dogs starting running & proceeded to round the corner of our yard, at this point out of my husbands view, but he was following right behind to watch them. However, within the 30-60 seconds he didn’t have a visual we *think* our dogs collided, because when he rounded the corner to see them, our 6 year old was on the ground having a full blown grand-mal seizure & saliva foaming at the mouth. We were able to get her inside and he packed her up into the car to take her to the vet while I stayed home with our NEWBORN BABY and other dog. He arrived at the vet roughly around 5:15-5:20pm and told reception that we think she had *possible* head trauma (as we think she collided with her house mate while chasing the toy) and then started seizing. My husband was told to wait a minute while they go speak to the Dr on staff. After a few minutes reception came back out and was told the Dr WOULD NOT see him or our dog because “she (the Dr) is getting ready to leave”. At this point our dog had come out of the seizure and was acting fairly normal, so he came home since they weren’t going to see her anyways and she was seemingly okay. When he got back and told me what happened I immediately called the vets number (at this point it’s maybe 5:45pm) and I was told the Dr wouldn’t see them because they were “getting ready to leave at 6pm for the night). Now at this point I absolutely lost it & I do take full accountability for how I reacted. Let’s just say I had some choice words, but I DID apologize to the receptionist on the phone before the end of the call because I know it wasn’t her fault. HOWEVER, with my husband being there at 5:15/20 and the Dr not leaving till 6pm, they ABSOLUTELY should have seen our dog considering possible head trauma & a grand-mal seizure. I was told that I would be recieiving a call back on Monday July 21st from one of the owners (as per my request) because I wanted to make a formal complaint again the Dr (I don’t know which Dr was on staff during this time but I was told it was a female). As of now, I never received a call & I had even called back to ask when I would be hearing back from the owner & was assured they’d call me …. Back to our dog though - she ended up having a total of 3 seizures in 12 hours, each one worse than the last. Blue Pearl Veterinary Hospital ended up helping us & giving us rescue meds (we didn’t go to Blue Pearl first because A.) they are an hour away from us, so obviously not helpful in an emergent event & B.) Viscaya Prado is who we’ve used for years & they WERE OPEN/STAFFED) So I am writing this as the lack of actions or CARE from Viscaya Prado is DESPICABLE & DISGUSTING!! Blue Pearl followed up with phone calls to check in & see if there was anything else they could do
Fantastic experience: Dr Edwards was incredibly calm and sweet.
Fantastic experience: I cannot say enough amazing things about this Vet Hospital and the people that work here. I'm going to call a few out by name because they deserve it so... • Dr. Lawrence provided emergency care to our dog that got toxicity from moldy compost... She went right into action, remained calm and worked with a plan and then adjusted as our dogs condition was changing (not always for the better). She kept us updated and explained care-plans and possible outcomes. • Maya H. provided information throughout the days she was hospitalized (4 in total) that kept us in the loop and calm. She let us come in an spend some visitation hours with our dog that we needed so badly, and she even perked up. She didn't make us feel bad about asking a million hypothetical questions and explained her at-home care meds thoroughly with a schedule. Answered all of our questions and provided the customer service our hearts needed to get through this horrific time. She made us feel like our dog was loved and cared for while we were at work. • The staff in the front were friendly and attentive to our needs as they cared for our dog in the back. PSA: COMPOST/MOLD is toxic to dogs!!!! Also a shout out to Van Roekle for After-hours suggestions on where to take our dog for immediate care. Collaboration was key
Fantastic experience: We were visiting from out of town but we got an appointment quickly and they took good care of our two cats. Very professional.
Fantastic experience: Viscaya Prado is not my main veterinarian but I have gone to them for major issues with my dog and they do a great job. We saw Dr. Melloh and he just does a better and more thorough job of looking and explaining. The only reason why I haven’t switched permanently is due to having vaccines for life at our main vet.
Fantastic experience: The fee's and services are the best. Thank you for taking care of our puppies
Fantastic experience: They always take great care of my cats. Trixie is a handful and hates getting nails clipped but she always is a gem with them.
Fantastic experience: I just want to give a HUGE shout out to the vet staff that was on shift last night at around 6:30. You guys are awesome! The sweet Vet who btw has the cutest cat shoes showed my sweet Brie such affection and care! Thank you thank you thank you
Positive experience: Very nice doctors that take the time with you and your pet needs! I Like the multi pet discount. I recommend dr. McKelvey.
Fantastic experience: I absolutely LOVE this vet. All 3 locations!! The staff are always very caring and friendly.
Fantastic experience: This is probably the best vet in SW Florida. They have been fantastic with our Vino (14 y.o. shihzu mix) since we rescued him.
Fantastic experience: This is my go to place! Dr. Richard's is the best! This location is on country club across from the tax collector.
Fantastic experience: Very dedicated and experienced staff. Terrific doctor!! Sara’s family sends thanks. Darlene Geiger
Positive experience: I’ve been to this location multiple times and it’s been a worse experience every time I go, I don’t think I’ll be going back again. There was no vet tech in the room so I had to weigh my own cat and hold my cat down while he was getting a shot. I had mentioned in the appointment notes about my cats breathing and the doctor didn’t even try and help me figure that out. $105 just for the visit when I did most of the work with my cat and had no help figuring out what was wrong with him. Everybody is always very nice but it’s just not worth it.
Fantastic experience: They are a wonderful vet. They truly care about our cats, dr. Richards is our favorite. She truly listens and takes everything into consideration for our animals.
Fantastic experience: Had a lovely time at this hospital, the workers are super friendly and they love working with the animals, highly recommend
Fantastic experience: Very friendly, fair priced and knowledgeable. We will definitely use them again.
Fantastic experience: We have been taking our pets to Viscaya Prado Veterinary Hospital since we moved to Cape Coral in 2012. They have always taken great care of our cats and dogs. We have also found their fees to be reasonable. Highly recommended!
Fantastic experience: Dr Mckelvey..best vet in the area ! Very kind and sympathetic♡ Its about the animals with this Dr not the money!! He's saved Big kitty twice now!!
Positive experience: I was so worried about getting my rabbit neutered, but this place had given me the comfort I needed to get him neutered. Dr. McKelvie did an amazing job, when my bun came home he was a little groggy but still as curious and active as ever (although I had to limit his activity of course). I dont even think he noticed he just went through surgery lol. Absolutely affordable, and they took GREAT care of him!!! Im happy to have a local place that is well versed in rabbit care! Although, the only criticism I have is when I called to schedule the surgery for my rabbit, one of the receptionists said to fast my rabbit the day before. Rabbits should NEVER be fasted, as they cannot vomit and it's deadly. A mistake like that CAN cost a pets life. If you are working at a mixed practice, please be well versed in the exotics that come in as well!
Fantastic experience: I took my pup to the humane society vet in dec 2023 and the vet said she had a gum disease where the gums grow over and cover their teeth that can cause severe pain and eventually dying , that vet said he didn't do surgeries and recommended to find one . I've used Viscaya Prado since she was a pup until 2021 when moving to Ft Myers so I called them back and got the surgery scheduled 2 weeks ago. The vet Mckelvie immediately after seeing my pup said he didn't think the original diagnosis was correct but said they'd do some testing, blood work to make sure she could handle the anesthesia etc especially since she's an older dog . A few hours after dropping my dog off I received a call letting me know she was in post op and about ready to go home . The best part was hearing the diagnosis was wrong and she only needed a procedure to do a deep clean on her gums and teeth which did require the anesthesia but she's been home now for about 2 weeks and doing a lot better because she was also coughing a lot like something was caught in her mouth or throat (this coughing was almost constantly going on ). The coughing went away immediately and now she's back to normal on her regular diet . The Vet Mckelvie did an amazing job and truly cares about animals and their owners which I immediately felt after meeting him also all the staff at this location are amazing as well. Highly recommend this veterinarian hospital and even though it's a little cheaper to use the vet close to me in Ft Myers it's worth it to go to this location as they seem very knowledgeable and capable of doing surgeries and other procedures. Thank you Dr Mckelvie and staff for your amazing care of my pup !
Fantastic experience: Love love Laidy and Dr. P and all the staff that we see monthly. My boys love them all. Best Vet for my boys. Never had an issue like I have had with other places. Happy boy is on the way home back to Punta Gorda.
Fantastic experience: They were able to squeeze me in on a sunday as a new client for my sick cat which i was surprised. Staff was very friendly and was seen quickly too. Dr. Montiero was great and very professional too!
Fantastic experience: I've had phenomenal experiences with Dr Kroll. Hes old school but reads all the new journals He's able to diagnose very well from all his years of expertise so that saves you money. Dr Edwards is wonderful as well She is good at diagnosing and will tell you the real deal sometimes the truth hurts. She is my 2nd go to. I've heard great things about Dr McKelvey.. Overall the facility has never steered me in the wrong direction and did the what's best for my animals.
Fantastic experience: Huge Thank you to Dr. Lawrence and the emergency staff at Viscaya Prado. My fur baby passed Thursday night and they couldn't have been more kind and compassionate. Thank you for being there❤ Also Thank you to Dr. Kroll who has been my girls doctor for years.. Nicest person you will ever meet.
Negative experience: I used to love this place. I took my English Bulldog in for a cesarean section. Dr. Z performed the surgery. Immediately after she closed her incision they brought her back to the room we were in waiting with our incubator. Petunia, was non responsive for over an hour I understand they need to have time to wake up from the surgery. While we waited she soaked the towels we brought with cups of blood. We sat there begging her to wake up. We told the doctor, something is wrong! She said everything went well and that she had “multiple surgeries”! This wasn’t true. She had only had one litter of puppies. The doctor ran a blood panel for the loss trying to find a reason and said oh this is low and that is low, and gave us the paper. This woman was the rudest person I’ve ever dealt with in my life. She said “I have other things to do and don’t have time for this”. Dr. Kroll came in because we have been taking our pets to him and Dr. Mckelvie for 10 plus years. Dr. Kroll said this just could be from the surgery. There were two puppies, not a big litter. That really confused us. We had to put Petunia on a gurney and take her lifeless body to our truck. Once home she was very weak for days. She bled and bled and bled. My husband called everyday. The Doctors refused to see her. She bled for three weeks. They said they would absolutely not open her back up. We even offered to pay for this to just double check for an anomaly. Finally she seemed herself again several months later. Huge sigh of relief for us. She is the first of our English Bulldog family. We changed veterinarians completely because of the way they treated our beloved family member. Petunia conceived her third litter at Choice Veterinary Hospital in Punta Gorda. Dr. Shaw was the surgeon. Petunia had a mass on her left ovary. We were in the room during the surgery. We really appreciate this because now we can ask if everything looks okay. We asked him and he sad “No, I’m going to spay her if that’s okay? She has this large mass and it could save her life removing it now” We completely agreed immediately. He said he could send it to the lab and we quickly agreed. He said “It can be a little pricey” We did not care about the cost at all. All we cared about was her health. Our pets are our family! We got the results back in a few days. Turns out Dr. Z left a surgical sponge inside petunia. Maybe trying to stop hemorrhaging? Who knows? All I know is I’m going to send the reports to the Veterinary Board now. I waited a long time to review this Doctor. I was too upset to even type. Every time I would think about it I would cry hysterically. No one’s animal needs to be treated like they aren’t worth someone’s time. Especially if they were paid to do a procedure and only wanted to move on to the next patient. Saying they aren’t responsible. Well! You are. I tried reaching out to Dr. Mckelvie and didn’t ever hear back from him. Just go to a different Vet. Even if it costs more. It’s pitiful how my beautiful girl was just treated like trash.
Fantastic experience: We love them all...Josie was my everything...my reason
Fantastic experience: We haven’t had a set vet in the Cape but after the way they had compassion for our pup on her last day with us has us sold. They got us in quickly, went over everything we needed to know and gave us the option to be with her or leave her with them. Thank you for caring for us and our pup in her time of need!
Negative experience: They wrote off my cat, who had a serious UTI. They attempted to obtain a urine sample by offering fluids and a wait period but gave up after 40 minutes. They did not try to obtain the sample by cystocentesis. Instead they prescribed him pain meds and a sedative, and told me to return in a few days if he wasn’t better. The sedative essentially made him too tired to feel the urge to pee everywhere, and when I stopped giving it his symptoms appeared worse than before. I brought him to a different vet, who was surprised to hear what medications were prescribed to him and appalled at the fact they didn’t obtain the urine sample, but instead wrote it off as anxiety.
Fantastic experience: Dr C. Melloh & the entire staff at the 1141 & 920 Country Club Blvd are just great from my emergency with my 13 year old Chihuahua Mombo, the care that was given they knew he was in pain & he is old and not 100% in great shape anyways!! He is old but a trooper my Mombito! They took care of him as I would have & that meant so much to us!! They didn’t disregard him as old as the previous Vet did that’s how we came to Dr Melloh & staff! He is doing so so good and I must say has learned real quick to eat without teeth but the best my baby doesn’t have that awful breath he had! He is so happy yes old but happy not in pain or discomfort!! Thank you thank you Dr Melloh for going just that extra & not disregard him as old!! From Mombo Eissler and his family Rosa, George & Mochi thank you all so much!! P.S. Mochi can’t wait to meet y’all!!
Negative experience: I was just refused purchasing prescription food for my pet because they were one month past their yearly check up. I offered to schedule the appointment immediately but was told I would have to wait until after the appointment to buy the food. I’ve been taking all of my pets here for years. Spent thousands of dollars on care and food. I was in their offices 3 times in the past month for care for another pet in my household and not once did anyone mention I was overdue for the other pets annual exam. I am shocked at what I was told is the owners policy.
Fantastic experience: Staff is always very pleasant and helpful. Dr McKelvie is the only vet in the area that treats pet skunks, and he's been wonderful
Fantastic experience: Absolutely amazing care from Dr. Mason Freed, he was so compassionate and kind to my dog, Luna. The first doctor we had there, Dr. Milton McKelvie, just seemed to want to rush and charge us as much money as possible. I had brought my dog in with concerns of a mass on her leg. Dr. McKelvie spent less than 5 minutes examining my dog and said “yup that needs to come out” and gave us a referral for over $1000. So we came in for a second opinion, same clinic, different doctor. Dr. Freed took his time examining Luna thoroughly and gave us several options and what he thought would be best for not only Luna but our wallet. Overall, Dr. Freed saved us over $500 and Luna is already feeling much better and going to an oncologist Dr. Freed recommended.
Fantastic experience: It's hard to find an affordable vet. Not only are their prices very reasonable, they provide a superior level of care to the animals.
Negative experience: I have had 3 wonderful experiences with my 2 pups at this vet in the past year. Each visit the staff have praised both dogs behavior. I took my Doberman in today & Dr. Edwards refused to even look at her without putting muzzle on her. I was completely shocked & caught off guard by this. 7 veterinarians my girl has seen in her short 2 years of life & this is a first. She doesn’t get muzzled doesn’t grooming & does great for her monthly allergy injections. Needless to say I walked out & will be finding another vet! If you’re scared of big dogs, why go into this profession?
Fantastic experience: We had to bring in our baby boy (20yr old) cat BRUNO ( whom I’ve had since he was 7 weeks old) last month to be carried over the Rainbow Bridge. The whole place was amazing!!! This was hard for us and even though he was 20, was unexpected . He literally went down hill and sick after like 3 days . He had cancer. The staff was caring and kind. Would recommend them 10000x over .
Fantastic experience: Another Vet recommended we take our friend and pet of 30 years, a Princess Parrot, to Viscaya Prado Veterinary Hospital to put our bird to sleep. They took us in the day after we called. The check in was done with a lot of sensitivity. Most importantly the vet's assistant who started the process was gentle and very compassionate. The vet who put our friend to sleep was professional and stated he was sorry for our loss. This is my only experience with this hospital but if are looking for a vet I highly recommend Viscaya Cape Coral.
Fantastic experience: Our dog is getting very good care. She was recently diagnosed with Diabetes so that requires vigilant care and observation. She has responded very well to her treatment.
Fantastic experience: I made an appointment today and the lady that waited on me was beautiful great service I'm very happy with the service the prices and I've been there before and I would give it 10 Stars if I could great job guys
Fantastic experience: The staff was great! Everyone was very helpful and patient. I like that they can do everything right there.
Negative experience: Horrible customer service. My dog is on apoquel allergy med. without it she has sores all over and in her paws. She didn’t have a visit documented. The front desk refused to provide her med. I said Ill make an appt. She said I still can’t give you her meds.I said what kind of vet service does not care for animals. I said she will suffer with sores. Women did not care. Do not send your pet there.
Fantastic experience: Dr. Monteiro was great and the most thorough vet we have seen. Last time we saw a different dr from here and he did not give any diagnosis, just took his blood and gave him steroids with minimal explanation. This time we had Dr. Monteiro and she was great, showed care, gave us a thorough evaluation and finally gave us a diagnosis and worked with our budget as well.
Fantastic experience: Such a great Vet! This is the 2nd time they did surgery on a pet of mine. Dr. Mellow and staff is amazing , caring and very good at explaining everything. Also both times the cost was a fraction of all the other vets. Highly recommend if you want the best care and don't want to be way over charged.
Negative experience: My past experiences at Viscaya Prado have been very good - Dr. Kroller is the best! But the last 2 Fridays, I have had Dr. Montero. Today, I waited in the waiting room for 40 minutes with 2 cats who had been in their carriers for over an hour. I finally was taken back, and told it could be another 20 - 30 minutes. This was just a routine check-up that was made a week ago. As I had somewhere to be in 30 minutes, I couldn't wait and left. I had to ask vet assistants twice how much longer it would be. Many people came in after me, but were taken back to exam rooms before me. They had appointments with different doctors, which I understand, but NO ONE at Viscaya-Prado made any attempt to notify the vet that people were waiting, nor did they ever tell me that she was running so far behind. This happened the previous week with my dog - over an hour of waiting both in the waiting room and the exam room! If you go to this clinic, DO NOT see Dr. Monero! I was livid and upset that my cats had to be contained in their carriers for over an hour, with no result in the end. I will definitely NOT see this vet again, nor will I book an afternoon appointment.
Fantastic experience: Really happy about my dogos argentinos ears cropped, I would like to thanks to these amazing people!! Amazing job totally recommend it
Fantastic experience: I have been a client of Viscaya Prado Veterinary Services since( it's been so long I can't remember) 25 yrs+. They are the best team of human beings and they know animals. I trust them as family. God bless them all please, you are his Angels. Thank you with all my heart ❤️. Christopher Whelan
Positive experience: Liked the place and good service and staff. Only comment is the fact that the veterinarian came in afterwards to see if I wanted to buy his book of his life story. Not rude or anything but was just a bit odd in my opinion.
Negative experience: To preface this: I know veterinary services aren't cheap, depending on the service offered. That is expected. What isn't expected is when they quote you that price, and lie through their teeth about the option of a payment plan. We were told from the BEGINNING that if we couldn't afford to pay $700 outright, that we could have a payment plan through the clinic or through a care card. We agreed to take our dog there for surgery based on this information. So imagine my surprise when we drop our dog off and only AFTER THAT do they tell us that we need to pay the $700 up front, and that we cannot do a payment plan. We were essentially lied to in order to keep us from seeking medical care for our dog elsewhere, and we could not afford to take more time, as the issue my dog had was serious. They forced us to make a decision: either pay $700 up front after lying about a payment plan, or let our dog get an infection and potentially die. And on top of that, when i had called a day before the appointment, I was told we were pre-existing patrons. We should have had access to a payment plan. That being said, the lady who took my call sounded like she had never used the system before, and didn't have a clue on how to talk to someone. Maybe stop repeating "Account name? Account name?" And tell me what you specifically need from me, I gave you my name, my husband's name, my dog's name, hell, I even gave you a potential username before you decided ONE of those names was the right one and had a hard time finding it afterwards because you heard it wrong. You'd heard it wrong BOTH times I told you the right way to say the name, apparently. So either the people at this clinic are liars or inept. I can't tell which is worse. Not like it matters, because we were manipulated into a situation that has us deciding between making sure our dog doesn't get sick or whether we can afford to eat. Don't bother coming here. They don't care about you, they don't care about your pet, and they apparently don't care about their medical staff either. Edit: apparently they lied to us about the availability of payment plans. Someone that I'm close to brought their pet in for medication and diagnosis of a serious issue, and they've been allowed to pay off the cost of the procedure over time through the clinic. If you come here because you have no other choice, be careful: they will try to swindle you.
Fantastic experience: My 3 year old English Bulldog has a ton of allergies and is very high maintenance. We spend a lot of time seeing Dr Melloh. He is an amazing veterinarian and Tank loves him. The entire staff is amazing. I wouldn’t take my baby, Tank, anyplace else! Thank you Viscaya-Prado Vet staff for all that you do!
Fantastic experience: Dr Melloh is amazing with our furbaby. He is so knowledgeable about the Shar Pei breed. Kudos to him and the Vet techs!
Fantastic experience: 100%. I called in as an urgent walk in: was seen in less than 30 minutes and a splint was placed in less than another 30. Very pleased, Only paid about $300. Thank you Dr. McKelvey for seeing my Chloe so fast, without an appointment!!
Fantastic experience: I've been bringing all my dogs here for over 10 years. Very kind staff and great doctors
Fantastic experience: My doggy was injured and they saw us right away. We were treated very well. Our doc was fantastic with us and our pup. I highly recommend Viscaya Prado.
Fantastic experience: I honestly don't remember who my vet is, I've only seen him a couple times, but I've enjoyed my experience each time, the staff is so friendly and it doesn't cost an arm and a leg like some other vets.
Fantastic experience: The entire staff here has been great to me and my oskie kitty ❤️
Fantastic experience: The BEST staff. We had to put our 15 year old fut baby down, and they could not have been any more kind and compassionate. Highly recommend
Negative experience: I called Monday morning and left a message with the front desk to have someone call me back. Well that didn't happen so I had to call again on Tuesday. They set me up with an appointment for Wednesday at their Country Club location but when we arrived, they said we had to go to their Animal Hospital which was a mile down the road. When we finally got there, they said they couldn't find my appointment and to come back tomorrow. So now we're at 2 days loss of work, wasted gas and wasted time. We went back on Thursday and when we got taken back, the staff was manhandling my poor rabbit. They freaked out on me because she had fleas yet that was the reason we were there. After just about giving my rabbit a heart attack trying to get her back into the carrier, which I had no trouble doing the 10 times I had to do it, they just handed me the flea stuff and said I had to do it myself. Also without asking, they gave my rabbit a shot for ear mites but when they tested her for them, it was negative. So my basic visit now is jacked up to $200 and I have to go home and do all the work myself. I will never go there again and I suggest that if you need a vet for an animal other than a cat or a dog, that you choose another place.
Fantastic experience: Love this place! I go to the one on Country Club. Our Vet is Dr. P. He is wonderful. Gets on the floor with my cocker spaniel, pets her before exam, very caring and knowledgeable. The assistants and receptionists are so welcoming as well. I highly recommend Viscaya Prado for the best care of your furbabies!
Fantastic experience: I am extremely pleased with this clinic/hospital. I called another veterinarian clinic and because I didn’t have an appointment they would not allow me to bring my sick cat in. I called Viscaya Prado and after telling the person on the phone how he was behaving; I was told to bring him right in. My cat (King Tutt) was seen after not waiting very long. My cat was sick, ultimately requiring surgery. I could have lost my cat waiting on an appointment with the other clinic that refused to see him. While my cat was in the hospital, I could call at anytime for an update and I was able to visit. I spoke with his doctor before and after the surgery. What I also appreciated is that no one seemed bothered by my calling or having questions. I have called hospital to check on family members and not been treated as well. My cat has now been home four days and is doing very well. He did not even behave as if he was in any pain. I would recommend this clinic to anyone and I will be going here for all my cat’s health care needs. Thank you to all the staff for the great care that was given to King Tutt and a special thanks to Dr. Monteiro who did the surgery. She is awesome!
Fantastic experience: Wish I could post 1,000 stars. We had the best care and support from Dr Edward's and the entire team with the worst decision we had to make. Cannot say enough about the excellent care our baby girl recieved but the support to us was amazing. Thank you Dr Edward's and Staff.
Fantastic experience: They were very kind when we had to put Jewels down. We mentioned how she loved going outside and sniffing the air. wind blowing her ears. They offered to go outside on a blanket to put her down. Very kind and thoughtful during a very rough time. Thank you Jonathan Rapp
Fantastic experience: My little monkey always gets great treatment. Butters had a mass on his belly and I kinda figured it was a fat mass but wanted to make sure. I don't know what I would do without my little boy. It turned out to be just that. Now that he is getting older, I will do periodical check ups. If your looking for a vet, these guys are the best.
Negative experience: I've been waiting three weeks now for the results for my pet. My wife has called multiple times and has been told that the results have been back for about a week now, and supposedly they are forwarding notes for a doctor to call us and let us know if our dog has CANCER, but not one person there has the decency to let us k ow so that we can try and save our dogs life.. so disappointed especially since this place used to be my go to
Fantastic experience: I just want to give an huge thank you to Dr. Prakash & the 2 wonderful ladies that assisted him with us about a week ago. Unfortunately after 17 yrs we had to euthanize our precious cat Shado. This was the first time we’ve had to do this but Dr. P and his staff were amazing. He explained every step and was so attentive to our needs. But most of all his compassion for us & our cat you hardly see that anymore. So thank you all so much for everything you did for us and for what you are doing for others. God bless
Fantastic experience: I have used Viscaya Prado for over 40 years for my past and current 5 dogs as well as birds. They are the best. I always recommend them to friends and family.
Positive experience: Awesome Vet that I have been using for 6 years now. A little pricey but your fur baby will be in excellence hands. The doctors and staff are amazing and they always call and let you visit. If you are looking for a beautiful new animal hospital centrally located near the Cape's municipal buildings with the best care in the area, Viscaya Prado is it! I am only giving it 4 stars because they have always been 24 hours and now closes at 8. I think cutting back hours in the booming Cape where we desperately need 24 hour vet care is a mistake, especially now during tourist season!
Fantastic experience: This is the veterinary clinic I wish I had used way longer than I have been. They were recommended to me by the Humane Society when one of our (now adopted) neighborhood strays appeared to us with a broken leg. Ever member of staff, from reception, technicians, and veterinarians has been the utmost kind, informative, and brisk with the work they put in to help all their non-human patients. They've gone above and beyond all expectations to care for our new kitty cats and am currently relying on their care for my senior minpin. Thank you, Viscaya-Prado, and to the Humane Society for guiding me to them!!
Negative experience: Charged for services not completed! Took two of our furries for ear infections. Dr Juanita Monteiro took it upon herself without authorization to do complete exams. Charged for paw pad trim, was not done. When my wife came home with a $652 invoice she was in tears. Called to speak to manager, after 15 minutes on hold waiting for manager I was told she was not available and said she would call. Went to office and spoke to Dr M. to dispute the invoice, she would not listen and said if it’s on the invoice it was done. Would not let us speak. Mentioned have been clients of Dr McKelvie for 20yrs and we will not be back. Her response was “That’s Fine”. To add insult to injury she said “Have a Happy Holiday” as she exits the room. Nothing but respect for Dr McKelvie, but this Dr Monteiro is bad for business!
Fantastic experience: This time going to get Ruby's nails clipped the wait was a much shorter time the last time I was there I had to wait almost 2 hours just to get nails done This time it was a 30 minute wait and that is good Thank you so much I enjoyed the service.
Fantastic experience: Best services I've ever had. The wait was well worth it in my case. I went after hours and got my boy a full check up, upper respiratory, and flee meds with full blood work. About 500 dollars for those tests and all medications.
Negative experience: Absolutely appalled. I called to request an appointment, knowing that my cat would need to be admitted for emergency overnight care. I was asked the usual questions, explained the situation, and given a time slot. 5 hours later, they called back to let me know that “they forgot” that they don’t have an overnight doctor in on weekends, and that there wouldn’t be any doctors around to help me. They offered to suggest a replacement office, and then gave me the number to a place that is over an hour and an half drive away from where we are?? I got the bare minimum apology and told to “have a nice day.” I wouldn’t trust these people of it was free.
Fantastic experience: The entire team showed compassion and a sense of urgency in providing our cat necessary surgery. Despite not being previously established, Viscaya Prado was able to fit us into the schedule. They reviewed options, explained the procedure, ensured that we understood the aftercare instructions, and far exceeded our expectations. She is now back to her normal, playful self and looking forward to getting her cone removed soon. Thank you to everyone who participated in her care.
Fantastic experience: I called me vet (who is out of the country) and several others before calling viscaya because they were the only ones who would squeeze me in with an emergency. I had to say goodbye to my 15 year old pup today and the compassion and then explaining the process to us was wonderful. They will absolutely be my go to vet especially in an emergency. Thank you to everyone who was so wonderful today. They even allowed me to park my truck right in front and let us leave through the back so everyone wouldn’t see us crying and upset. Thank you again you all were wonderful.
Negative experience: Went into this clinic to get basic services for my new puppy. They did fine from a medical perspective, but within an hr after checking out from there, my credit card (rarely used) was used to wrack up almost $2,000 worth of fraudulent charges. I reported it to my bank and to the Sheriff and they told me to contact the last place I tried to use the card. I tried 5 times to reach out to a manager at Viscaya Vet office and they told me different stories ... not available... not in office... with another customer. After 6 hrs of calling regularly I haven't even gotten a call back or a number to discuss the issue with someone.
Fantastic experience: Love this place. Caring people and we trust Dr. Monte and her people very much with our little babies! Keep up the good work and thank you for the wonderful care of our pets.
Negative experience: Terrible experience. Took a rescue cat there to get tests to make sure he was ok to bring around our other cats. They didn’t do what was told, risked our other cats, “new owner” was supposed to call and make right, no call, we’ve called 3 more times, no response. Terrible customer service and not a care in the world about our cats. Look elsewhere
Fantastic experience: Knowledgeable, Personable, Calm, Efficient, Loving people. Echo and Koda are happy with their services. 'nuff said
Positive experience: Great doctors and nurses. front desk staff was nice as well. I took my cat to get neutered first thing in the morning , and when he was done by 1, no one had called me. I had to call at 3:30 and ask if he was ready, and they told me he’d been ready since one. Then when I got there to pick him up , the nurse went back to grab him, then came up and told me he had bleeding after his surgery and he needed to stay over night. When I went back to see him before leaving, there were a ton of nurses which made me feel comfortable. I asked why no one called me to tell me about this bleeding. They said they called and I never answered (I never got any call) , but they never called the emergency phone # I put on the form to fill out. I just felt a little nervous after that. they didn’t charge extra to keep him over night, and they did a great job of taking care of him. I called at around 1 am to check on him and someone answered right away and told me how he was. I do wish there was a little more instructions on how to give a 2 inch capsule to a 2 year old cat who would never voluntarily take it. Facility was very nice and clean , and the price was affordable!
Fantastic experience: My dog had 2 grand male seizures. We called. They took him right in for an evaluation. They were very good and thorough.
Fantastic experience: My "go to" veterinarian. Staff very professional and treat you fur babies like their own. First vet my dog doesn't freak out. Loves it, so if he's happy I'm happy.
Fantastic experience: We love bringing our mini golden doodle here. They are not as expensive as these other places that the pet stores where you can purchase animals from and they "Give you a discount " if you go to the vet they offer. The staff here are very KNOWLEDGEABLE & PROFESSIONAL. They are very empathetic to their customers
Negative experience: Run! They can't take care of their patients that have been there for years and keep taking new patients and can't handle it. You will wait for an hour for a normal appointment and God forbid if your precious pet has a life emergency. You will still sit in waiting room while your loved pet is bleeding with no help. Don't walk but stay away!
Fantastic experience: Our experience with this vet has been nothing but positive. The doctors here show that they care. They listen to our concerns and help us understand the conditions our pets have had better. I love the new facility, very clean. When one of my dogs needed surgery for a life-threatening emergency, i felt better knowing they were the obes doing it. We have been taking all of dogs here for a few years now.
Fantastic experience: I love viscaya Prado vet because they are alwaythere for us and our pets. Sunday we had an issue w our Frenchie and we thought he was going to die and they saved him;; so bless u guys and thank u from the bottom of our hearts
Fantastic experience: This hospital save my dog pluto's life. I want to think them from the bottom of my heart. I do not know what to say. I have had my dog for 12 years and they kept him alive for another 12 or more.
