Negative experience: Took my previous cat there for a check up after being told they were affordable, he was taken back for bloodwork and then the vet came back with a mysteriously dead cat and no answers. I was still charged for everything. Current cat went because they were the only place I could get a next day appointment for his lethargy, they charged over $400 for an x-ray & bloodwork with no evidence of anything and no answers, then had the gall to ask for another $300+ to do better x-rays. Never take your pet here.
Fantastic experience: Dr. Dodson and Dr Fulton have provided excellent care to our 12 year old English Setter. They are both extremely skilled and thorough. The entire staff is caring and responsive. I highly recommend this outstanding practice.

Fantastic experience: I have been going to this vet for quite a while now and I have only good things to say about this company and the people there. Everyone is so helpful and I am able to know that they truly care about the animals and their owners that walk through the door. I can say I have not had one bad experience here and will continue to seek care from this vet office. I have seen Dr. Callahan, Dr. Dodson and Dr. Blake all for different visits and they are all great. Although Dr. Callahan is now elsewhere, I have enjoyed seeing these three doctors and appreciate everything that they have done for my dog Bandit and myself whether that is just me trying to understand something or as simple as walking in to pick up his prescriptions. I also appreciate everyone here understanding and being patient with us as Bandit has very bad anxiety. They are quick to put us in a room as well as quick to get us out. The staff all seem very professional as well as kind. I would recommend this office to anyone with a pet!

Fantastic experience: Brought my senior cat in that hasn't really been to the vet for a wellness check and vaccinations. The entire staff was very nice and the visit went very well even though my cat was stressed. They made her feel very welcome and took their time so she didn't get extra stressed out! I would definitely recommend.
Negative experience: Been told Betty Baugh’s is pretty good but I called not to get an exact price but a rough ball park range on the cost of a dental cleaning and tooth extraction. They refused to give me a hint of even a wide range. I’ve been able to get this from a few other vets. This smells as a money grubbing grifting technique. I’d come in, pay for and do the preliminary evaluation if I knew a ball park range even if it was large. Other vets have given me this. Financially extractive! Edit: front desk also hung up on me mid sentence when I was about to ask if I could send a photo of a problematic tooth. Not everyone has an arm and a leg to pay for endless evaluations to consider second options when they realize they are getting an over priced initial estimate from the first vet they see. Transparency in pricing is something any moral practitioner of medicine for adults or animals should engage in. Edit: more than half the vets in the city gave me a range. Do better. I’m double affirming this 1 star review
Fantastic experience: Betty Baugh has been absolutely terrific. We have been with them for about 7-8 years and they have been nothing but good to me, my pet babies and family. They are gentle, caring, you can get a quick appointment and they are thorough!

Dr. Dodson has been a godsend for our dog and helped us figure out the root cause of his gastro issues that other vets couldn't pinpoint. He's a spicy boy, and she - as well as the whole staff - is so empathetic and compassionate. I feel so supported every time I walk in the door. I didn't have anything left except my rent money when I went in so when they told me the price I was shocked at how cheap it was. I thought I was getting a deal with using plans but I'm not. This place is cheaper and the people are really nice.

Negative experience: My dog is known for being anxious and needs to be muzzled for vaccines and instead of muzzling him like I asked they threw a towel over him and held him down causing him to be severely anxious. I had told them to come get me and let me do it if he causing issues with the muzzle. They ignored me and put my dog at a high level of stress and wouldn’t let me be with him while he was getting his vaccine. They then lectured me and said he tried to bite them and acted as if I hadn’t warned them and told them I need to muzzle him because he needs 10 minutes to warm up to strangers. They also didn’t try to let him warm up with treats or anything they took him immediately into the back. The first time he got his shots I was allowed to be with him, muzzle him and hold him. The second time they wouldn't allow any of that. If you have an anxious dog or one that needs to be warmed up do not take then here they do not care.
Fantastic experience: Doctor Dodson is fantastic. The staff caring and attentive. We started bringing our cats here when we moved from NYC. We have brought two kittens we adopted while here, they took care of our two older cats. We received a card from the entire staff when we had to put our 15 year old cat down. They were kind and gentle with us, they let us take time with Nicholas before the procedure. Humane treatment for Nicholas and for my wife and I. I recommend this clinic and Doctor Dodson without reservation.

Fantastic experience: We saw Dr Gomes today for the first time. He and his assistant were absolutely wonderful! They made of my 3 month old Pittie girl and made her comfortable. She even gave good bye kisses. They were knowledgeable and professional while showing they cared. It was so refreshing since having been to others that were stohic and stone faced. Fantastic experience: We are new dog owners and just had our first Vet visit to Betty Baugh’s. These guys are superb and answered all many questions and instantly put us to easy that we had found our Vet! From the doc, front of house, nurse, to vet tech everyone showed us and our dog so much kindness and care! Also these guys are shot experts, my dog didn’t even know he got a shot with there amazing shot teamwork!
Fantastic experience: Dr. Fulton is one of the kindest, most gentle, patient and wonderful veterinarians I’ve ever met. After our senior cat’s first appointment with him, we knew he was the one. We’ve had a few scares these last few years while we watch the little boy age and Dr. Fulton has made us feel so at ease. Every vet I’ve booked an appointment with at Betty Baugh’s over the last 14+ years has been warm, welcoming, and understanding. It is clear everyone truly loves animals and what they do.
Fantastic experience: My 3 month old Boston Terrier, Keaton, and I met with Dr. Dodson yesterday and we couldn't have been more pleased. Both Dr. Dodson and Sophia were amazingly helpful, caring, and patient with us. Keaton was excited and lively plus I had many questions which were answered with the detail that I needed. I researched many veterinarians and I am so happy to have found Betty Baugh's. I highly recommend it. Thank you.
Negative experience: Today I had a scheduled appointment at 11:00 a.m. for a simple vaccination. As a new client, and following the instructions stated in your policy for first-time visits, I arrived early — specifically at 10:30 a.m. At the front desk, I was assisted by a young man who was very kind and professional. He gave me several forms, which I filled out completely with all the required information and signatures (he was the only positive part of this experience). After that, he escorted me to a small room where, without any explanation, I waited for over an hour. At the 53-minute mark, I asked what was going on, and they told me they would check. Finally, after one hour and ten minutes of waiting— and my dog’s growing distress — I decided to leave without being seen. I consider this level of disorganization completely unacceptable, especially in a setting that should prioritize the well-being of animals. The stress and anxiety caused by prolonged waiting in confined spaces cannot be overlooked. Moreover, I find it deeply unfair that your policy is so strict with clients — including fees for being 10 minutes late — yet there is no mention of consequences or accountability when the delay is caused by your own veterinary team. I left frustrated, disappointed, and with a deep sense of guilt for having subjected my pet to such a stressful and pointless experience. I urge you to review your protocols and policies, and to reflect on the clear imbalance between the demands placed on clients and the lack of reciprocity in how your time management is handled. I also encourage you to consider the emotional and physical toll that experiences like this can have on the animals who visit your clinic.

Fantastic experience: All team members are great from those who answer the phone and run the front desk, to all the vet techs, and to our wonderful Dr. Wynne! We transferred to you all from another facility where we felt their business model /corporate attitude took precedent over giving us a personal caring attitude like you all give to us and Raleigh. We are so happy with your caring attitude! I really appreciate that you will keep Raleigh with me for blood draws. I don’t want him to have to go in the back. I really appreciate that Dr Wynn and the vet techs really focused on what I was saying- not typing into a computer because I was in a room where it was recorded so vet had a reminder of the conversation for notes.
Fantastic experience: I took our cat Buster to Betty Baugh’s for his scheduled check-up. As usual, it took awhile to get him into his carrier, but once buckled into the passenger side seat belt he was fine. Because Dr. Dodson was in surgery, Dr. Chubb and her assistant cared for Buster, and with their kind and gentle manner, he was fine with them. They said that he continues to show plaque on some of his teeth, so dental cleaning should still be considered. They said they would do bloodwork to be sure he would be safe with the cleaning. Otherwise, he was doing very well. I put Buster back into his carrier, checked out, then took him home. Everyone at Betty Baugh’s is so kind with Buster, he is happy and comfortable with his visits, exams, and tests. Thank you all very much!
Fantastic experience: Dr. Wynne and the team have been exceptional since I found them when moving to RVA a couple of years ago. They have multiple vets on staff in the event I have an emergency but my preferred vet is unavailable. They are always kind in guiding me in situations I'm unfamiliar with and help me make sure I provide the best care to both my cat and dog. It makes me feel extra cared for, that every time I come in everyone knows my pets names and loves all over them. It makes it seem as though they love my pets as much as I do, so I know they will take extra care to ensure they are in their best health.

Negative experience: Edit: Never got a call back for any kind of scheduling, pretty disappointing. Even a message saying they aren't taking on new clients would have been preferable to no response. I have not met with any staff yet and as such am willing to adjust my review in future. Reviews that it is unlikely your phone call will be answered are true and you will likely need to leave a message rather than talk to someone.
Fantastic experience: I’ve been taking my dog to Betty Baugh’s since I first brought him home. I invested in their puppy package, which was a great deal, and despite moving across town, I take the time to bring him here. He’s seen Dr. Wynne, Dr. Gomes, and a few folks in between. Everyone is friendly and takes the time to discuss treatment and other concerns. I’ve never waited long for an available appointment and their Saturday hours are an added perk. The cost is reasonable considering the level of care and support provided. I highly recommend them to anyone looking for veterinary care or anyone who is interested in comparing service costs and scope.
Positive experience: I’ve only had great experiences with my dog here. Unfortunately, my dog had an ultrasound 5 days ago, and am still waiting on a call from the Dr. here for the results!?!

Fantastic experience: Dr. Dodson is a rockstar. She is thorough, my (even fearful) dogs adore her gentle touch and sweet nature, and she thinks way ahead for their futures. We trust her for everything!
Negative experience: The doctors are knowledgeable and very competent, but this place has fallen victim to corporatism like most private practices that are bought out by larger companies. Don't try calling because you're unlikely to get someone on the phone. They do not provide timely updates without prompting, and communication could be much improved upon. If the doctor assigned to your case isn't currently in, they will wait days to reach out until said doctor finally is. That is a unique experience compared to the other vets I've patroned in the past where staff members not assigned to the case can at least check the patient file to provide you updates. The facility is adequate, but it's very loud, dated, and appears to be falling apart. They try to get you back to a room quickly, but the waiting room ends up being a very stressful environment if your pet is prone to anxiety. They want you to come in for re-checks often which ends up being quite costly. At times it feels like unnecessary procedures are suggested. I ended up deciding to leave this vet months ago after getting a second and third opinion on my pet's prognosis that didn't align with what Betty Baugh suggested.
Fantastic experience: I absolutely adore every individual we have had a chance to meet. They always cover all of my concern, work with my dogs needs, take the time to make a genuine connection with us both and have me giggling at least 5 times while visiting. From the moment I tell them Lilith is ready for her appointment to paying the bill, I feel like we are cared for.

Fantastic experience: I can't recommend Dr. Wynn enough. It has been a stressful week and a half with a sick pup. Dr. Wynn & her staff assured me it would be the last day of him being sick and there would be a solution. They were compassionate and understanding. I have a pit, a very misrepresented breed. They understood the breed and their nature. I felt comfortable after feeling uncomfortable in other places. He is truly the best baby and rarely barks. I blamed myself for him being sick and I was comforted. They immediately sent me to AMC for further help. Thank you so much!!
Fantastic experience: Thank you to Betty Baugh’s staff and especially Dr Fulton who allowed us to bring in our two dogs after they were attacked by two large aggressive dogs. The attack was unexpected and violent. Our vet was unavailable and two other emergency vet services had long waits. Betty Baugh Clinic worked us in quickly and evaluated our dogs, making sure they did not have internal injuries in addition to treating their bites and bruises. We were grateful that they were willing to evaluate the dogs even though they were not our regular vet and then to recommend the meds and treatment needed to help our dogs recover. Thank you Betty Baugh staff and vets!

My dog was recently sick and they accommodated me immediately and the whole staff—the reception, the assistants, the doctors—were incredible in helping me get my guy back to his usual self I’ve gone here for years and my dog pulls on the leash towards the clinic whenever we walk by on Patterson because he loves how he’s treated there. Fantastic experience: Most dogs hate going to the vet. Not mine. They love all the attention they get from the reception desk staff and the techs that give Fergie her monthly shot. Dr. Wynn is amazing. She genuinely cares and makes the appointment more enjoyable and less scary for my pups.

Fantastic experience: I have been a client at Betty Baugh for almost a year now! I was reluctant to leave my prior vet for years and was driving over 90minutes for each appointment! However, when my 12 year old Black and Tan Coonhound experienced an injury, limiting her mobility and balance I needed to find a local vet that could manage her care on a routine basis. I searched the Internet to find reputable practices that offered medicinal and alternative treatment options. I thought it’d be difficult to get an appointment in a timely manner, however I was able to schedule one for the following day online. I was amazed at the convenience. My first visit far exceeded my expectations and I was offered multiple treatment options to improve her condition and chose to start her on monthly Librella injections in addition to weekly laser treatments. I was astonished at the results, within 3 weeks my dog was walking and even running on her own without losing her balance! She has continued to improve and has more energy than she’s had in years!! The staff are all friendly and very knowledgeable, offering the most up-to-date and cutting edge treatments.
Positive experience: Our dog Rosie was attacked by a pit bull on Sunday at 5:00. She was stable, but BB could not see her until Tues AM. She was thoroughly evaluated by Dr Wynne, including three wounds and possible rabies exposure. The doctor treated other routine conditions while Rosie was in the office. The only criticism I have is that no one notified me that Rosie should be fasting for 4? hours before her appointment.
Fantastic experience: My dog Adonis was sick and I had taken him to another vet who could not help him and diagnosed him wrong. I thought I was going to lose him. I saw your ad online and decided to call. Needless to say Dr Edwards diagnosed Donnie and recommended the necessary medicine to care for him. Adonis has recovered and is now running and playing like his old self. My boy could not walk. Thank you staff and Dr Edwards. You saved his life and I thank you .
Fantastic experience: We have had nothing but fantastic experiences at Betty Baugh’s. My girlfriend and I moved to RVA a few years ago with her now 13 year old cat, and we have been going there for all our vet needs. They are fantastic at working with you to ensure that you receive all the required care for your pet, while still working within your budget. It has been fantastic for a couple of college kids with an old cat. The entire staff also cares so much. Recently, when our kitty was having some stomach issues they managed to fit us in between appointments. Multiple members of their staff have messaged us to check in on our cat (not just the doctor, but even some of the front desk staff). We highly recommend Betty Baughs!
Negative experience: Had been with them for about 11 years. Started off great, but service has gradually deteriorated. When you call it will just ring and ring and ring. After getting a new kitten a few months ago, I purchased their kitten package which used to give you 50% off the spay or neutering. It is now 25%. I haven't had a new cat in over 4 or 5 years, so I questioned the 25%. After taking 2 weeks to get in touch with them to set up the spay I was already frustrated with their service, so I mentioned I would likely be looking for a better suited vet for my cats. They cancelled my appointment without notifying me. When I realized this I asked to speak with a manager. She was out and I was assured she would call me the next day, she didn't. A week later I called again and she didn't have a good excuse other than some personal stuff in her life. We reviewed my complaint and she agreed it was unprofessional of them to cancel without confirmation or notice. For my terrible experience and their unprofessionalism I requested a discount. She said she was not authorized, so I requested to speak with someone above her. She said she was unable or unwilling to provide me that information, but she would make a call and see what she could do, and that we should just go ahead and schedule my kitten for her spay, that she would work on it for me and get back to me. I reluctantly agreed, asking for her assurance she would take care of it for me. She assured me she would. I take my kitten this morning for her surgery (keep in mind she hadn't eaten since 8pm yesterday along with my other 7 cats who had to wait until she left to eat), they give me the same estimate and ask me to initial. I wrote that I didn't agree with estimate and that the manager had assured me she would work on that for me. Of course she wasn't in, so they refused to do the surgery until speaking to her. They agreed to hold her there while I went to work and that they would have the manager call me as soon as she got in, which was 9am. At 9:15am I started calling to get this resolved. No one answered. I emailed and texted once, but kept calling. Nobody ever answered in the 10 times I called over the next hour. She finally returns my call and I asked why she didn't call me back before I brought my kitten in. I did what she asked me to do expecting her to do what she said she would do. She said she never said she was going to do anything else and thought the matter was closed. I was in complete disbelief!!!! How can a company treat a long time customer like this Needless to say I went to pick my kitten who still hadn't eaten since 8pm the night before and all my cats medical records to take to my new vet. They won't get another dime from me and you should give them one either! They may be nice to your pets(at least when you are there I guess, who knows), but they are terrible to you!!! BEWARE!!!!!
Fantastic experience: Dr Blake is very kind and caring. He went above and beyond to help figure out what is going on with my pup. The office staff is all super friendly and the facility is clean and up to date.

Fantastic experience: Dr. Blake and the entire Betty Baugh staff treated our sick cat, and our family, with such kindness and compassion during a very difficult time. Their schedulers were accommodating to our urgent needs, the techs were attentive and careful with our pet, and Dr. Blake was fantastic all around. The Betty Baugh clinic was a breath of fresh air during a challenging time in our cat’s health. I would highly recommend this clinic to anyone!

They’re some of the most caring people I’ve had the pleasure of being around, and they understand getting the care your pet needs can be expensive, so they really do try their best to make it affordable. Positive experience: The doctors are amazing, there’s a staff member with red hair with an industrial piercing who tried to overcharge me $60 for a service (that was not listed on my initial invoice). When I called them on it I received a very rude, and very intimidating attitude from this attendant. I basically had to demand they eat the cost for charging me more than on the initial invoice. Great veterinarians, staff have attitudes. Make sure they don’t overcharge you. The veterinarians are amazing, the staff is horrible.

Fantastic experience: Best vet experience I've ever had by a landslide. I am new to Richmond and this vet was recommended to me when my cat recently stopped eating. They got us seen quickly and we've been there a handful of times over the past couple of weeks and each time I received the excellent customer service and my cat received excellent treatment and care from the staff. Dr Blake and team have been communicative and patient and I fully believe they have worked hard to do everything they can to assess my cat's condition and provide the best course of action in her healing. I've dealt with multiple vets in NC and GA and have never received this quality of care, attentiveness and clear communication. Thank you Dr Blake and team. I won't be going anywhere else!
Negative experience: I have taken my pets here for 3 years now but have decided to move on. Everyone is very friendly but at the end of the day it's all about money and they are quite expensive. This year I had to get my dogs annuals from vetco vaccine clinic as its a bit cheaper and we are struggling. BB would not honor the paperwork from Vetco and prescribe us his usual medication and said we needed a "wellness visit". Everything he was due for at BB was taken care of at Vetco and I sent them the paperwork, but they still wanted us to pay to come in.
Fantastic experience: I have had a number of vets, and the folks at Betty Baugh are far and away the best of the bunch. In addition to the wonderful regular care they’ve given my dog, I came in two days in a row for an emergency and they have gone above and beyond in accommodating us, communicating proactively, and providing thorough and thoughtful care. Really grateful to have found this clinic.
Fantastic experience: I LOVE this vet. My dog is older and every time she comes in here she’s so well taken care of, the doctors are so sweet and really want to take care of the animals. Lastly, the facility is super clean.

Fantastic experience: One of the best experiences I’ve ever had at a doctor/vet. All the staff care so much and do everything to make the experience perfect. They even accommodated my husky who isn’t great around other dogs and were able to get us into a room without a problem. Dr. Dodson was very thorough and you can tell she cares and puts so much time and attention into each patient. Amazing experience!
Positive experience: The doctors, techs, and support staff are excellent. Phone service is terrible. Can't remember the last time that the phone was answered without automatically going on hold. Not unusual to go through three cycles of "Thank you for your patience..." then "We cannot take your call at this time.". So glad I've not had an urgent issue so far. It was not like this before this former private practice was sold to a corporation. Services also went down and prices went up. The only reason I stay with this practice is because of the medical staff.
Positive experience: My dog sees Dr. Wynne and she provides excellent care. Staff is very friendly and easy to work with and it’s never hard to get an appointment short notice. That said, the cost of care has steadily increased and the only reason we’d consider changing vets.
Fantastic experience: Every bit of the staff that we encountered were AMAZING !!!!! We saw Dr Wynne and she was great with our 13 year old Pitt that's been doing not so great. Her and the nurses were gentle with him and made his experience as easy as possible. I forgot everyone's names but best Vet visit I've ever had!!!

Negative experience: We've taken our three dogs here since 2019 but have made the decision to move to a new practice. I took two of our pups in for care in December - one for his annual heartworm test and vaccination and the other for his 6 month senior visit. They charged for both having full visits and I was charged more than $200 for this extra unexpected and unwarranted exam. I complained four times - twice in person, twice by phone and no one ever responded back to me. The receptionist told me it was up to me to question everything the vet does during the visit to ensure nothing extra is done. :\ If I had ever received a reply from the practice manager or vet, we likely could have talked through this but the crickets have convinced me that the practice is focused on just charging as much as possible and their relationship with my pets is purely transactional.
Fantastic experience: I brought my little guy in with quite a few issues and Dr Dodson really took the time to learn about my kitty and allow him to get comfortable with her. She spent a long time with us and really listened to my concerns and seemed to really care for my cat! I am excited for him to have found his new vet!
Fantastic experience: Absolutely the best vets out there! They have taken care of my puppy Gus since I brought him home at 8 weeks, and now at his first birthday I couldn’t recommend their team more!! I recommend them to everyone who asks. The entire staff is exceptionally kind, and they can do so much for you and your pet from the convenience of the office.
Negative experience: The good news is that BB is very well priced. It might be a good choice if you have a healthy pet. However, if your pet has a problem, expect to be gaslit. The vet interrupted my history repeatedly, left the room when I cried, and misgendered my pup making me think they can't keep their dogs straight. I should have gotten a second opinion a year ago.
Fantastic experience: Dr. Chubb and the team at Betty Baugh’s Animal Clinic are amazing! We relocated from Pennsylvania and were concerned about finding someone local for our fur babies. Dr. Chubb does an great job at educating on concerns and risks, but also doesn’t make you feel pressured to run every test possible. She is transparent when discussing costs and provides alternatives when available. Her team follows up after visits with phone calls to see how our pups are doing and makes sure we feel comfortable with any recommended treatment plan. We’re so glad we found this location and feel confident in their ability to care for our chihuahuas.
Fantastic experience: I took my beloved golden boy there for years, and when he was devastatingly diagnosed with cancer we received the absolute best care. He was gifted 4 amazing weeks of additional quality life thanks to the staff at Betty Baughs. The kindness of the front desk staff and passion that the techs and vets show is truly one of a kind. Dr Chubb helped us through some very tough decisions. Our boy was blessed to have such a wonderful team care for him- and he knew it, he loved going to Betty baughs!

She is knowledgeable in her field and has the best bedside manner for both the animals and their humans. Everyone who works there is kind and caring. They are also mindful of total cost and they don’t seem to run up the bill with tests that aren’t necessary.
Fantastic experience: Dr Blake has gone beyond the call of duty in his care for our pup with pneumonia. He called our home on many occasions to check on Skip; he worked us into his already full schedules when Skip’s health took a nose dive. He and his assistant, Amanda, have been kind, gentle and understanding and have patiently walked us through weeks of visits, X-rays, meds and healing. We felt so fortunate to have Dr. Blake guiding us through this ordeal.
