Negative experience: I brought my dog Levi to SAGE Veterinary Centers in San Francisco while traveling because he was experiencing gastrointestinal issues and needed emergency care. While the medical treatment appeared appropriate, the overall experience felt impersonal, disjointed, and unnecessarily stressful — primarily due to repeated separation from my dog, limited communication, and multiple payments required prior to services. The visit felt heavily payment-driven from the start. I was required to pay the exam fee immediately upon arrival, before any exam had taken place. More concerning was that I was not present with my dog for vitals, the exam, or treatment. Levi was repeatedly taken to the back and kept in a kennel for much of the visit. Being in a new city with a sick dog, having him separated from me for the the whole process was unduly stressful (for me, ut especially him). Each time a technician took Levi, I was asked to turn him around and hand him over and he was immediately taken to the back. At no point during the visit did I observe anyone pet, soothe, or reassure him. Because he remained in the back, I was also unable to observe how the veterinarian interacted with him during the exam. Communication with the veterinarian was limited. The discussion moved quickly toward diagnostics without clearly explaining what was most likely going on or outlining the typical first-line treatment approach, and I did not see the veterinarian again after that conversation. Allowing owners to be present for exams and simplifying the billing process would make a significant difference in the experience for both pets and their owners. Keeping pets in kennels has not been my experience at any other veterinary/emegency clinic in 20 years. Nor have I seen the lack of interaction or reassurance, while being asked to make multiple payments prior to services. Overall, this experience was disappointing. In the future I would choose a veterinary clinic that is more focused on communication, trust, and pet comfort.

Fantastic experience: SAGE has been amazing each time I’ve visited them for emergencies. Oliver and Kelly at the front desk are so kind and comforting during what is usually a stressful situation! They take great care of my dog, and I’m thankful to have them as my go-to for emergency care.

Fantastic experience: The staff and the vet were very helpful and friendly. They saw our dog Emmy right away, shared all information about available tests and the results, and steps forward. Emmy had ongoing diarrhea for a few days and had started to refuse food. The supportive care they provided helped our dog get better right away, she was excited to eat the prescribed food when we got home, and went back to her normal self in about a day.

Negative experience: The first thing is the receptionist. She is friendly and open at initial greeting. Upon paying for the exam fee, I felt she was checking if payment would clear. While another person followed behind me to pay their fee, she had no hesitation and smiled. A nurse came out and was immediately interrogative and asked me a ton of questions on whether I knew my pets age, if he ate, why I carried sedation pills, etc. I had just explained that he had a fall so I brought them to help with whatever is needed. She didn't see too thrilled to assist a cat. She took him and said she would be back. The second person that followed behind me had a nurse come out, welcomed her with a smile, said welcome and offered them a room to discuss their pet which made me feel a bit disturbed since I was not greeted that way nor given a room to discuss -- mine was out in the open in the lobby. The nurse came right back and complained how the cat was not letting her examine him. I explained that is why I had the sedation pills. She then proceeded to talk loudly about how they will need to sedate him and other things or I can take him home and monitor. Mind you I have paid the $260 fee already and had not been in this location more than 8 minutes. I then said I will give him sedation pills since I already paid the $260 and would like to continue with checking out my cat. She has attitude and walked back to a room. I then ask the receptionist is they had nurses for cats and dogs separately and she said they handle all pets. I mentioned the above interactions and she proceeded to speak to me in a condescending tone that the nurse wanted to be safe and ye, I'm there to check out my cat to see if he has any injuries or issues. Within the 8-13 minutes I was present, and still present in the lobby waiting for the sedation pills to kick in, the hospitality turn from night to day, total change and completely unwelcoming. I'll update this post as the evening progresses at Sage. Also for anyone interested in coming at nigh, they have two doctors until midnight and then only one doctor after to check on pet patients. I'll post shortly. Tom is an amazing nurse and is very compassionate and warm.

Fantastic experience: We brought in our cat Mudd, who was in mild kidney failure. Everyone was very kind and responsive, and they gave me updates on my cats condition. Having a sick pet is terrible but you are in good hands with these folks.

Fantastic experience: Our cavaliers are very well-cared for here. Dr. Woodruff is a wonderful cardiologist and we’d highly recommend her for her expertise and compassion for animals.

Fantastic experience: Each person, from receptionist to triage nurse to veterinarian were skillful and personable. Dr Hummer was compassionate and very informative in helping me navigate a very complex situation with my cat. Records were sent to my email right away. Clinically excellent, efficient, compassionate care. As a nurse, I wish humans got such well coordinated care! Thank you Sage!

Fantastic experience: They took excellent care of my cat and were thoughtful and communicative. I hope I never need to take him to an ER again, but if I do, I’ll go back here!

Ryan Forney Posted on Google 1 month ago

Fantastic experience: I love going to SAGE. The wait times for the ER are a little long but nothing outweighs the professionalism and clinical knowledge of all of staff. Even when the wait times were super long they helped me find another ER who has a shorter wait. Even when my puppy was referred to a specialist service, they followed up quickly to schedule an appointment. Thank you SAGE team for everything you do!!!

Fantastic experience: When Percy wasn’t feeling well, we were panicked and unsure what was going on. I called Sage and the staff was immediately helpful and reassuring over the phone. Even better — we didn’t even need an appointment. We walked in and Percy was seen within 20 minutes. From the moment we arrived, every single staff member was warm, friendly, and genuinely caring. But the real standout was Dr. Phil. He was not only kind and patient with Percy, but it was clear he truly cared about getting to the bottom of what was wrong. He ran a full blood panel and urine analysis and exhausted every resource available to him to find answers. We left still a little uncertain about the diagnosis, but Dr. Phil prescribed medication based on his best clinical judgment — and within a few days, Percy was feeling so much better. We can’t say enough about the level of care, attention, and kindness we received at Sage. If your pet ever needs urgent care, this is the place to go.

Fantastic experience: I really liked the vet Erika, she was really helpful and nice, she helped us out a lot. The last time I came the vet was kind of rude and seemed like she was in a rush but Erika did what was best with our budget and I’ve never had a vet do that for us. Thank you

Fantastic experience: My pet was referred for heart disease issues. Ollie saw Dr Kate Woodruff n Cardiology. I recommend SAGE for any pet parent who has an Unfounding love for their pet. She spoke indepth with me after performing a Echocardiogram giving me a better understanding of what's going on with Ollie. Her compassion when she offered to work with me I will be forever thankful. Excellent Services

Fantastic experience: We had a wonderful experience at SAGE. From the person who answered the phone, (sorry I don't remember his name) to Natasha who did our intake, the nurses, vets Dr Park, and the neurologist, Dr Macrie, everyone was caring, thoughtful and empathetic. They assessed our dog Bobby, who had a traumatic fall from a staircase immediately, and ran all the tests and treatments necessary, making sure to check in with us about costs, tests and procedures every step of the way. Thank you so much, it was the best experience possible under the circumstance! We're happy to have Bobby home and going back for follow ups. Highly recommended.

Negative experience: I had a pretty bad experience here. My dogs left eye was shut when I went in Saturday morning to get it checked. I was panicked and their entire check up took less than 5 minutes after waiting for an hour. They gave antibiotic drops and sent us out. By the evening it spread to her other eye and now both eyes were shut. I was scared it could be glaucoma or it would get worse. Again, check up took less than 5 minutes. The doctor comes out and I ask her why is her right eye swollen as well and she goes “is it swollen?” I don’t know. Aren’t you supposed to tell me? She then proceeds to give me new drops to apply to her eyes. I ask for a pressure test and I’m told “she won’t sit still for that.” Yeah, maybe because she’s a dog and not a statue. Then tells me I should wait until Monday for her regular vet to check her. Eyes are sensitive and things can turn poorly fast. I realized how horrible my experience was when I went to an ophthalmologist specialist at Veterinary Vision in SF. It was clear they cared and weren’t just after overcharging me for absolutely no results. The drops they gave here did nothing to her eyes, and I learned from a better, more compassionate vet that you don’t have to overpay for medication. They can send them to a pharmacy to be filled at a fraction of a price. They overcharged me twice for drops and a concurred and ran 0 tests to understand what the right treatment should have been. Disappointed is an understatement.

Fantastic experience: This place is amazing. My dog got hit by a car and they got him seen quickly, calmed me down and took great car of him. Highly recommend.

Fantastic experience: The staff was so helpful and kind. They did a wonderful job of taking care of my dog who ate chocolate and was very sick at 2am. Thank you for everything!

Fredy Barrera Posted on Google 2 months ago

Fantastic experience: Besides a long wait on Sunday, overall experience was pleasant. The complementary snacks was helpful during the wait. Once seen, they gave a clear diagnosis of my pet, and how to give her proper care to resolve her issues. I would come back for sure, if it’s an emergency. Although I would hope not to have to come at all.

Fantastic experience: Just brought my dog home from a major surgical procedure, and I could not be happier with the entire team at Sage SF. They are compassionate, empathetic, and IMO the best of the best. Dr. Morrissey is a gift to humanity!

Fantastic experience: From the friendliest front desk staff to the professionalism of the medical staff, this place does not cease to amaze me!! Thank you, Sage, for your warmth and friendship! Zak loves you all!

Fantastic experience: Fast friendly service. Very patient & caring Vet for my fur baby. Appreciated the promp recap notes from visit that were available to our regular vet by Monday.

Brittany Blaiddyd Posted on Google 3 months ago

Negative experience: Disgusting lack of care for my cat after thousands of dollars spent. They continually refuse to refill her prescription in time, but wouldn't write a script to buy the medicine elsewhere because they wanted to upcharge me for it instead. Every single member of the staff should be ashamed of themselves.

Mark Akamine Posted on Google 3 months ago

Fantastic experience: Staff provided excellent medical care for my dog. Their facilities and expertise is at the highest level. I couldn’t be happier

Flora Posted on Google 3 months ago

Negative experience: Very kind staff, but over $800 for vaguely conclusive blood results & just for an exam. Medications charged at 3x the amount as a regular pharmacy. Dismissed our suspicion that it was neurological & then our dog had his first seizure 3 days later. Quoted diagnostic chest xray of $700, $900, and $1000–in no particular order. Ultimately had chest xray done elsewhere for appx $600. I would only recommend Sage if you can’t/won’t go to emergency vet in Oakland or Marin, AND have endless amounts of money to spend on test after test.

Fantastic experience: These folks are amazing. We brought our pup in visible distressed (as were we). They were professional, warm and reassuring.

Betty Shon Posted on Google 3 months ago

Fantastic experience: The whole team at Sage, vets, nurses, front desk, parking attendants etc. were excellent. My pup had to stay for several nights so I was very anxious. The doctors were really good about communicating on a regular basis and kept me updated two or three times a day. I am grateful for the care my pup received at Sage. I am also thankful for their 24/7 availability. Vet care is costly throughout the Bay Area so I am relieved I had pet insurance!

Hope Hanna Posted on Google 3 months ago

Fantastic experience: This review is primarily for Dr. Macri, Sage’s neurologist. I have taken my pup to many veterinarians throughout his life, and Dr. Macri is truly among the very best. His devotion to both his patients and their families was immediately evident. It was clear that he carried his cases with him, thinking through problems thoughtfully and persistently in an effort to provide the best possible care. Even after an exceptionally long shift (15 hours or more), Dr. Macri still took the time to personally call me, answer my questions, and adjust medications as needed. That level of dedication is rare, and it meant more to me than I can adequately express. He consistently went above and beyond for my little guy. I also want to acknowledge the front desk staff, who were always helpful, compassionate, patient, and kind. Taking your pet to a hospital is never a relaxing experience, but they consistently made me feel welcomed and supported—keeping me informed about wait times and even offering helpful suggestions, such as filling prescriptions at Costco to reduce costs. To Sage's managament or owners- he is a keeper. Appreciate him and value him, he is a gem! I am deeply grateful for the care, compassion, and professionalism shown by the entire team.

Fantastic experience: Excellent care for a pet emergency. Vet was a super listener and was very knowledgeable. Also, the triage team triaged my pet in a way that I felt was appropriate. Empathetic staff. Very pleased. We’ll be back if we need future urgent care.

Ru Posted on Google 3 months ago

Fantastic experience: The staff were all very kind and they treated our cat very gently. The vet and nurses were non-judgmental and gave clear and easy to understand instructions and answered all our questions, our girl made a swift recovery thanks to them :)

Matthew Souzis Posted on Google 3 months ago

Fantastic experience: My cat received excellent care, the vet and all assistants were thoughtful and compassionate.

Evan Johnson Posted on Google 3 months ago

Fantastic experience: Came by for an emergency visit on New Year's Day and were completely reassured by how the entire team that day interacted with us (and thankfully our cat had nothing more going on than just being a little less graceful than cats typically are). I wish I had gotten the name of the nurse who took him back for triage to call them out as well for how much their manner when talking to us made us feel so comfortable and gave us some levity while we were still feeling pretty concerned about our cat, but if you're the one who overheard us calling our cat a jackass and matched that energy, know it was so appreciated. We saw Dr. Harrington and absolutely loved her. She was so reassuring and clear about what she thought might be going on, what we should be looking out for, and where we could potentially go if specialist care was needed. Such an incredible team that really made a stressful holiday feel more manageable.

Positive experience: It has been a month since my best friend Toby passed. As difficult as it is for me to write this, my family and I greatly appreciate the effort the staff made to help my dog, Toby. Toby was family, and for 15.5 years, I was able to cherish every moment being with him until the end. Despite all the pain he endured, Toby was conscious and had a fighting spirit as he waited for his owner's help. I called SAGE ahead, and when I went to pick up Toby, during the car ride, it felt as though he was talking to me. When he heard my voice, he let out a big sigh, then began whimpering to me, reflecting his pain and relief at seeing me. I was reassuring him the whole ride to the vet, telling Toby he was going to be alright and to push a bit more, and he barked back. I said we made it, boy, and brought him inside. At this point, I put my faith in accepting whatever outcome will be... and Toby passed, he stopped breathing while in the operating room, but somehow got a breath of air again. The nurse saw this and brought him into the room so that my family and I could say our goodbyes. His body was shutting down, his eyes were off balance, neck was broken, and he was gasping for air. It was hard to watch. A dog is more than just a pet; they are angels, and I was fortunate enough to be with Toby as he was not alone. His last moments were where he showed me his loyalty and unconditional love by turning his head to look at me one last time. Toby closed his mouth, flared his ears forward, and his eyes locked onto mine as his pupils dilated. It was a moment of peace for both of us. It was his way of saying thank you.

Michelle San Martin Posted on Google 3 months ago

Positive experience: It took an hour to be seen in the ER when it was fairly empty. Not sure why?? We called ahead and were told we could be seen upon arrival. X-rays weren't taken. They tried to induce vomiting instead which wasn't successful. So we left in the same condition we arrived with no new information in the obstruction. But they were reassuring that the obstruction would probably pass which was comforting. The front desk staff was very pleasant and helpful.

Esme Wang Posted on Google 3 months ago

Fantastic experience: The team at Sage saved our dog’s life. We were stunned when we arrived—the staff were so kind and even offered us tea, coffee, or water. The doctors were also highly informative, making sure we knew what was going on. They didn’t pressure us into making a decision, acknowledging that the financial aspect of a pet emergency is a big one. We will always be thankful to them for allowing us to visit her and for keeping her so comfortable before we were able to take her home. We absolutely loved our experience. It was highly stressful, of course, but they did everything they could to make it less so.

Fantastic experience: The staff at SAGE are incredibly on top in of it — they are knowledgeable, quick, kind, thorough, and professional. From the moment they took our cat I felt he was in excellent hands. Big thanks to Tom, Michael, and Natasha who made our visit as comfortable as possible. I wish human hospitals operated this efficiently and humanely!

Negative experience: Horrible Cusotmer service. I brung my dog in and they took over 2 hours to see him even though they already charged me $260. After I got tired of waiting they said I’ll be next and if I can wait 30 minutes. They didn’t give me no medications for my dog and didn’t solve any issues. Just an x ray. They charged over $1,600 just for that. They wanted to charge over $7,000 for an overnight stay. The doctor also stated “I know it’s expensive and I know you guys don’t have that money”. Using psychological practices. We took our dog of course. After they brung him back one of his nail was broken and bleeding.

Tatiana Tkhorik Posted on Google 4 months ago

Negative experience: Pay close attention to their billing practices. I paid $260 for the visit in the morning and I was told that there would be no charge if my cat’s condition worsens within 24 hours. We had to come back at 11 pm same day and I got charged $260 again in addition to the medications and shots. It was 3 in the morning and I was exhausted so I just paid. For both visits it was almost $900 in total. When I looked at the docs in the morning and asked why I was double charged I’ve got a response that it was up to the doctor. I tried to discuss it with their manager and they avoided me at all cost. After bugging them for a couple days I got refunded $90.

Negative experience: Long wait I spend 7HRS WAITING when I was there for 5hrs I ask them excuse me how many how many people are in front of me she said two I was like ok then I Turn 7HRS I ask again they said one more person and I'm next I was like what ? So then I a told them can I have my money back I been. Here 7 hrs for what they charged I expect more but no she was ok o apologies I definitely not recommended this place this well be my last place to go definitely the worst

Marty Miner Posted on Google 4 months ago

Fantastic experience: We arrived about 5pm and were seen within 20 minutes of our arrival. The staff and doctor who saw Janey were very considerate and knowledgeable. We left with a good plan to proceed with and a referral to their internal medicine veterinarian.

Laura Grishaver Posted on Google 4 months ago

Fantastic experience: All of the staff are extremely compassionate and professional. I had awful experience of my dog dying. The vets and techs did not sugarcoat my dog's prognosis, they kept me updated on any changes in my dogs health, and were very kind and sensitive when they euthanized her. They did everything they could have possibly done to save my dog's life. I will forever be grateful.

Fantastic experience: Great hospital. Great staff and care. Could not ask for any better than this . A bit pricey, but your animal deserves the best !

Mike Lem Posted on Google 4 months ago

Fantastic experience: Sage is very much appreciated. The welcome staff is kind and helpful. Even though it was busy, we didn’t wait long before we had our beloved Kiku looked at. The Drs did as best to look out for our doggie. The prognosis is not good but I feel like we got the best compassionate care at Sage. Parking is hard at the SF location but the Valet staff is also top notch and also super helpful. Highly recommended.

World Traveler Posted on Google 4 months ago

Negative experience: If you call them, they act very sympathetic, confirm how quick you can arrive and prioritize telling you to have payment ready for the visit fee. What they don't tell you is that you called a call center that has no idea what is happening at the actual center and whether your pet can be seen after they said it's ok to go in. Then when you get there you get turned away because it will be 3 hours before you can be seen, because their call center routinely sends people to SAGE, not knowing there is no staff to see you. This is a known problem and the clowns in management (Medical Director Michael and Hospital Manager Erik) have let it go on for long enough that the poor techs seemed exhausted that they have to deal with frustrated people being directed to come in. So make sure you take to someone at the actual center and ensure your dog is on their death bed, or you may have just wasted a trip or will wait hours. I will never come here to these clowns ever again. Instead there are other places you can go in the city that don't use call centers, will see you in minutes and triage your pet FOR FREE. Utter incompetence at SAGE.

Fantastic experience: Sage medical center rocks. They’re Professional , qualified, efficient, supportive and caring. You get what you pay for at this pet emergency hospital. Thank you very much Dr Morrissey, you are god’s gift to our animals and their parents that are suffering. I also thank all the ancillary staff from the front parking gents and front desk assistant Isabela, ER doctors Burdette, Salazar, radiologist Tong and all the caring nurses Briana and others unnamed but still important. This emergency animal hospital delivers. I can not thank all the staff here who give beyond giving for the love of animals.

Fantastic experience: We brought our cat to Sage on Friday for an emergency, the minute we walked in they took him and started working on him to get him comfortable. Came out to us and updated his condition. They kept him over the weekend, called and texted us for updates. They made us feel comfortable knowing he was in good hands. The professionalism was outstanding by all staff members. Hopefully we never have to bring our cat back but if we do, we know he will be in the best of care. Update: Our Cosmo is home and doing great

Jake Ryan Posted on Google 4 months ago

Negative experience: On Thanksgiving of this year, my dog was hit by a car, He had very minor scrapes and no broken bones, but we wanted to bring them to a vet just in case, so we brought them to Sage that hospital. As soon as we arrived, The vets took him to the back room, And about 10 seconds later, one of the assistance poked her head out of the door and ask the desk associate for A “critical“. The desk associate then proceeded to pull out a paper for us to sign and stated that the vet needs a immediate deposit of $2000 to proceed or else the That would step away and come talk to me. I am in the service field myself so I understand service providers needing a deposit to start work in case additional issues arise, it wasn’t till later this seemed a little weird. After about 20 to 30 minutes, the vet called us in she talked to us. They stated that they could see some blood pooling in different spots internally, and his gums were a little pale. The vet did say that he was stable though, and they would recommend A 72 hour stay. Then the assistant came in to give us a quote, Stated he was in critical condition and then gave Their first quote was $15,000 for 72 hours, which I’m sorry seems a little ridiculous, so we asked for a shorter stay for Less. The vet that came in again, stated that he was in stable condition, and that they got his blood work back, and it did not seem like he was losing a large amount of blood. After that, the assistant came back in with Their second quote for about $4800 for eight hours. Your assistant, Dan stated that he was again in critical condition and that they were waiting for his blood work, contradicting what the vet had just stated. I try not to think the worst, but I can’t help but feel That something was off due to the extremely large “In the fact that the assistant was trying to make the situation seem like it was more critical than it was. I don’t mind paying what needs to be paid to help my dog, but it definitely seems like they’re running some kind of emotional game when quoting clients. After we took him home, he was fine for a few days, but then started to throw up his food with the medication they originally gave us. After contacting the vet and asking For advice, they stated that he needs to be brought in again, and since it’s A “ separate issue“ They will need to charge another evaluation fee(Which coincidentally had just gone up the same day). The person I talk to you over the phone later, stated that it was up to the vets discretion if they wanted to waive the fee, but later stated that they would not be doing that. Overall feels like they’re just trying to price gouge, I don’t mind paying for additional medication or additional services, but $300 just to bring him in again when I literally spent $4800 with them seven days before, is a bit ridiculous. Especially when they said they had the ability to waive the fee And chose not to.

Fantastic experience: When our dog was diagnosed with lymphoma, we were referred to Sage in SF. We didn't know what to expect but the entire team at Sage has been amazing. First and foremost for taking great care of our guy and getting him back into good health. Also from always being available for questions, working with us through the long schedule and having such a welcoming environment to go to every week. Would absolutely recommend.

Negative experience: Front desk staff were great. I waited almost an hour just to get vitals. Waited 4.5 hours for a doctor to tell me my dog will be fine with rest. Worst $275.00 I have spent. No x-rays. Just a quick under 10 min experience. I wrongfully assumed that the nurse(s) were competent enough to advise accordingly. That money could have been spent directly on the recommended prescription instead. That way, they could have still gotten some money.

Fantastic experience: My experience was very good: The hospital did a lot of necessary tests ( alas also not cheap)and finally , after 4 hours the verdict came : acute pneumonia. And here I was treating my dog for Allergies. They gave her shots, anti biotics and she immediately stopped wheezing and on the way to recovery Excellent services ….!!!!!!

Negative experience: We had a really disappointing experience here. Our dog was having serious stomach issues, so we came to the emergency clinic late at night. We were told the wait would be about an hour, but we ended up sitting there for over 3 hours with no updates. Around 2 AM, someone finally came out only to tell us that the doctor was still busy and that we should go to another emergency clinic instead. After waiting that long with a sick dog, being turned away felt extremely frustrating and unprofessional. Would not recommend.

Negative experience: This wasn't a great experience. I'll give them that they were able to take care of my cat. Beyond that the experience was pretty subpar. When I was at the facility I asked about my cat's irritated skin and the tech said the doctor didn't notice anything to address but when I got my cat home the skin was so irritated from her scratching and licking it the area on her chest was bright red with blood. I called and spoke to someone who should probably look for another job because as I'm telling him what I need because all the techs and Doctors were busy he couldn't understand what I was saying. He wrote down some incorrect information which I had to repeat several times. I asked what I should do about the skin irritation and got told to use Gabapentin. Great.... I was never discharged with gabapentin. I got told, "oh I guess there's miscommunication. They said you had it." I asked what I do as another option and got "I'm not sure". I ended up having to just put gauze and wrapping it to keep her from scratching. Maybe 12 hrs later I got a call back that the gabapentin is ready and to use a surgical suit. I told the doctor what I told the other person I spoke to about. I don't have a surgical suit and had to wait til Wednesday. She says, "I'll give you a scrub." I get there and was given a pack of gauze and gabapentin. I asked "where's the scrubs?" The front desk clerk tells me "oh there's the clorhexadine scrub. They soaked it in some gauze." They gave me 3-4 loose gauze soaked in clorhexadine which I can get anywhere and some gauze that is wet from the clorhexadine gauze.... pretty nice. This was not a good experience. I wish I went to VEG who has always done a great job.

Negative experience: I'm on hour six of my wait time and it's 3:30 am. This review isn't because I've had to wait six hours with no end in site, I can accept that I have a lower priority issue. But it's so so cold in this waiting room at 3:30am. I even brought a blanket and a jacket. I'm just hoping that this review inspires sage to provide a heated building. The visit room is as cold as the outside waiting room

Fantastic experience: We needed emergency treatment for our cat last night. The doctors, nurses and staff were very professional and compassionate.

Jenny Dorrila Posted on Google 5 months ago

Positive experience: I would give them a 5 if they didn’t take that long honestly I know it’s an emergency place but it took us like 3-4 hours just to get a check up on my dog service tho is great just maybe not the time is great took too long.

Fantastic experience: Sage veterinarians are highly skilled specialists who go the extra mile to provide necessary services to our beloved pets. They take the time to really know each animal, and are forthright in their assessment of required intervention. They helped me make the best decision on the course of treatment for my beloved canine companion. I am confident in their recommendations and appreciative of their compassion.

Fantastic experience: As with most pet owners who only visit a pet hospital during emergencies, I didn’t do much research beforehand. However, SAGE was there for me when I needed them, and the care they provided was exceptional. My pet recovered, and I feel like we’re on a path to a better quality of life overall. Thank you all at SAGE for your unwavering dedication and support.

Fantastic experience: We had a recent visit to SAGE ER for our frenchie, Quincy, having acute pain. The team saw him right away as he was screaming in pain. Our vet quickly assessed Quincy & diagnosed him with cervical pain, recommended medication management & referred us to Neuro to rule out IVDD. The team was amazing from the valet to the front desk to the vet herself. It's been a few days after meds and Quincy is responding well and almost back to his usual self. Pricing for the service was transparent. They sent us a copy of the itemized receipt and medical records for our pet insurance. It was also very helpful that SAGE had valet parking... one less thing to worry about when you're having a pet emergency. Thanks for taking care of our best boy, Quincy!

Fantastic experience: We were very impressed during our first visit to Sage. Everything was very professional and the whole experience moved quickly with all of our questions answered and the minor surgery required done quickly.

Fantastic experience: Second time there with a different dog. Both times have been a great experience. I highly recommend SAGE %. Thanks for the clean facility, kind people and complimentary items in the waiting area in SF on Alabama.

Fantastic experience: Great experience! I was able to my pup seen right away and they took great care of her. They also offer nice details like valet parking, coffee, tea, snacks, and the exam room was personalized with my pup’s name.

Fantastic experience: Great from initial call, arrival with triage to prioritize an ingested toy. Got right in to an exam, XRay and diagnosis. Clear options presented by several staff with cost range up front. All ended well with my dog being induced to vomit up the toy while. Phew! Thank you SAGE team. Highly recommend for your pets!!

Fantastic experience: SAGE is absolutely top-notch! I’m so grateful to have such an advanced, state-of-the-art veterinary hospital nearby. My cat and dog have unfortunately needed medical attention several times, but thankfully SAGE has always been there. As a physician in San Francisco, I often describe SAGE as the UCSF of animal hospitals. Their team is professional, compassionate, and organized, from the first phone call and scheduling to the smooth check-in process. The waiting area is clean and welcoming, with thoughtful touches like complimentary coffee, tea, and snacks. Wait times have always felt appropriate for the high level of specialized, hands-on care they provide. The range of expertise under one roof is impressive, and it’s reassuring to know my pets can get everything they need in one place, no matter the issue. Dr. Morrissey was especially wonderful: knowledgeable, warm, and generous with her time. She clearly explained my cat’s condition and treatment plan and made me feel confident that we were in the best possible hands. Overall, I can’t say enough good things about SAGE! We’re lucky to have them in our community.

Fantastic experience: We dealt with the oncology department. Dr Andres and everyone else was knowledgeable, attentive and clear. Office is clean and has complimentary valet parking. Highly recommend.

LuAnn McVicker Posted on Google 6 months ago

Negative experience: Wait times were incredibly long with no communication from the front desk staff. I actually left at 2am after waiting over 3 hours. I returned the next morning, wait time was still 3 hours, no communication. Vet Techs are misinformed and ill-prepared. No follow-up on lab results was provided, I had to call. Sage Redwood City is so good, too bad Sage San Francisco is so terrible.

Helen Nicely Posted on Google 6 months ago

Fantastic experience: We arrived 15 minutes early to assist with parking. The free valet made it easy for us, and we proceeded upstairs and were still early! We had a good discussion about my dog’s health & prognosis with Dr Kathy Andres; I agreed to set up health checks at Sage every 3 or so months to look for further adenocarcinoma appearing, which we will schedule for late February since we will be taking 6 weeks’ vacation.

Michael Schreiber Posted on Google 6 months ago

Fantastic experience: The staff here are amazing. You can always tell when someone truly cares about you and your pet. They have given me great advice about ways to save money through the treatment process and how to help with my pets comfort. It sucked having to need to go here (pet has cancer), but glad for the staff here.

Fantastic experience: Superb care during a recent emergency visit with our pooch. Excellent intake experience despite our being under duress, and clear, explicit communication from the veterinary and other clinical staff.

Maxine Boykin Posted on Google 6 months ago

Positive experience: Wonderful hospital, staff and service. I just wish that there were more veterinarian mds. in there, they were very busy and under staffed. I had an emergency visit for a 19 year old cat. But I am grateful to have been seen and able to confer on the next steps for keeping my cat comfortable and safe.

Gman 49 Posted on Google 6 months ago

Fantastic experience: At one in the morning. It's not cheap and neither is the care. Saved my cat's life at the time. Nice people, very professional, and skilled. Hopefully I won't be back anytime soon...but if I did, I wouldn't hesitate. They worked with me to make it happen. And she was well treated.. Unfortunately, she's struggling now and it's not looking good. But, it was worth it. It bought us some time and that means alot to me and to my little girl. And, we did what we could, she will be missed.

Fantastic experience: Last month, my dog had an emergency and needed to see a vet late at night—around 10:00 p.m. I tried everything I could at home for over an hour, but eventually realized he needed professional help. I called ahead to Sage and they were incredibly helpful, walking me through what to expect at check-in and taking my information quickly. When we arrived, the check-in process was smooth and efficient. I stepped away briefly to use the restroom, leaving my dog with my boyfriend. I was gone for maybe five minutes, and when I came back, my dog was sitting calmly like nothing had ever happened! My boyfriend asked Paige to explain what she did, and I was honestly amazed—she resolved the issue so quickly and without any fuss. I’m so grateful to Paige and the entire Sage team for their compassion, efficiency, and care. Thank you for taking such great care of my doggy during a stressful time!

Maribel Santos Posted on Google 6 months ago

Positive experience: Service was excellent but giving 3 stars for the long wait. We walked in at 10:30pm and was out the door @3am. Wait time is about 2-3 hours but the other pet hospital on Fillmore was an even longer wait so we went to Sage. I understand this could be due to the shortage of veterinaries in SF.

Ian Richardson Posted on Google 6 months ago

Fantastic experience: Amazing service, speed and above all care. My little kitten has shown signs of distress and they immediately took him in , checked him out, and had him back to me in one piece. An amazimg vetinary hospital that I can recommend enough!

Fantastic experience: I had to take my 17yr old dog to Sage for an emergency. I found the staff to be kind, helpful and professional. It was extremely comforting to know he was in such good hands during a very scary time.

Terry O'Donnell Posted on Google 6 months ago

Fantastic experience: Always a great experience going to Sage. The care they provide my pet is thorough and thoughtful. The only problem I ever had was finding parking but now with the free valet right at the front door this issue has been taken care of. It’s amazing. Plus I love the reuse of an old brick warehouse. It makes for a pleasant light filled experience while you wait for your pet.

Kristin Joyce Posted on Google 6 months ago

Negative experience: Don’t waste your time. I brought my cat in for severe dehydration and a possible intestinal obstruction. I waited for almost 4 hrs, went up to the desk and asked how long it would be and they said it would still be awhile because they only had ONE emergency vet working… at an EMERGENCY VET HOSPITAL!!! I work at a hospital and could never call it that if there was only ONE emergency MD working. That’s considered a MD/vet office at that point! I will never bring any my animals or recommend this place to anyone I know. Do yourself a favor and seek out another location or emergency hospital for your pet EMERGENCY because they don’t treat it like an emergency. You and your pet deserve SO MUCH BETTER!

Michael Ahlin Posted on Google 6 months ago

Negative experience: I have attempted to give this place a shot on three separate occasions and on my third visit, I am still not impressed. This place is so short-staffed that my average wait time has been 3+ hours to be seen by the veterinarian. The front desk is not responsive and will drag you along as if they are more interested in your money than your pets care. They even charged $240 up front just to get you in the door and then make you wait a crazy amount of time to charge you again when you leave. The only reason this place isn’t getting a zero is because the nurse was extremely professional and kind. Although in a convenient location, I recommend driving the extra 30-45 minutes to a different emergency vet location because it will likely save you time, money, and a lot of frustration.

Robert Allen Posted on Google 6 months ago

Fantastic experience: Had the classic Saturday morning pet emergency. I was able to get right in and the wait wasn't long. My impressions.... Very professional. Staff was concerned not just about my pet but also me. Offered me options on treatment to help manage expenses. Did not feel like they were pushing an agenda. Was very happy to find them though I hope I never need them again.

Sumi Posted on Google 6 months ago

Negative experience: went to them for an emergency vet. waited 5 hours overnight from 1am-6am with very little communication from staff besides the receptionist and one nurse. we were told numerous times they would be back to help in a second but were made to wait up to an hour each time, either in the waiting room or alone in a room. the prices are also very steep but to be expected from an emergency service. overall, they desperately need more patient-facing staff. otherwise you're just left waiting there with no communication on what is happening and when. it was a really stressful experience that was not made easier here.

Mary Hules Posted on Google 6 months ago

Fantastic experience: They are very compassionateand knowledeable, and they kept me and my brother well informed throughout the whole experience. They were honest about possible causes of my cat's ilness, what all te potential diagnosis tools were, and the basic approximate costs. They also didn't have a problem with my brother paying for the services, with his credit card, even though I am the cat "owner".

erin mogensen Posted on Google 6 months ago

Negative experience: Terrible customer service and excellent at price gouging. I did not feel they gave adequate care to my dog, and it didn’t appear to seem that there was appropriate communication between the two different doctors who had seen him. The night shift loaded him up with at least 4 or 5 different sedatives, then the day shift doctor was concerned at his altered mental status… insinuating his mental health was rapidly declining, insisting he be transferred to their Redwood City location for an MRI (quoting me 7-10k!) He was showing signs of altered mental status because he was overloaded with sedatives!! Even I know that and I’m not a doctor or a vet. Was there a lack of communication between the two vets that worked on him; between the one who gave him an insane amount of medication and the one who said he was mentally altered? Did the second vet even read the chart from the night before?! Disgraceful. Most of the front desk staff were cold and unhelpful (at both locations), no one called to update me on my pets condition throughout the day, apart from one call at shift change, where I was told he did well throughout the night, “no more seizures and was resting comfortably” (keep in mind, this call came from the night shift doc, who had given him the bill of the sedation drugs). I had to call to see how he was doing in the afternoon, then was told by the vet on shift that she “didn’t have a chance to call me” but my dog was so badly mentally altered that he needed an MRI immediately. If he was that bad then I should’ve been notified sooner. If he was administered so much medication that his mental status was altered to the point of deterioration, I SHOULD HAVE BEEN CALLED, whether they had time to or not.

Negative experience: Horrible experience in ER. They barely looked at my dog and sent us home to wait, we went somewhere else and they diagnosed her with Lyme. Why have an ER if you’re unable to diagnose emergency conditions? Why charge without giving any answers? This place is the worst

Fantastic experience: Emergency Visit with a Sick Pup Our emergency visit to Sage was excellent. I had a young pup with explosive, bloody diarrhea. We were triaged promptly, and all of our information taken, including our insurance. There were several more emergent cases in front of us, but the staff was caring, efficient, very pleasant and kept me in the loop regarding our status. The vet was excellent and took time with us, understanding how difficult this was for both my dog and I. She answered every question I could possibly have and described the care she thought would be required in detail. My insurance was contacted in real time (this was late PM!), and the expected services pre-authorized. As a result, I knew what my exposure would be right then and there. The claim was filed within 24 hours and paid as reported. My boy had to spend two nights at Sage, but I felt very comfortable that he was getting the best services possible. During that period the staff stayed in touch with me regarding his status, by both phone and text. After discharge, the results of the tests that have been done were sent to me as they came in, and when the final tests came through the vet called me. I would take my dogs to Sage anytime. The staff is wonderful, the services excellent, and, above all, they really care! Can't thank them enough! Highly recommend.

Negative experience: Run away - far far away! I would give no stars if I could. Negligent, irresponsible, dangerous. Carried in our 5 year old lab who was suddenly so weak that she couldn’t even hold her head up and had collapsed. She looked like she was about to die. They made sure to take our credit card information but did not care about our dog at all and made us wait forever before someone even came to take her vitals. They then took us to a separate room where they dragged her out by her leash - not even looking at how weak she was and the effort it was taking her to even stand. They took her to the back to be examined. After another 45mins I had to go out to the front desk to ask for an update. Someone then came to say the Dr was busy so she was waiting in a crate in the back to be seen. Unacceptable. We got our dog back and went to another facility who identified an overwhelming infection starting sepsis that required emergency surgery and saved our dog’s life. (VEG Palo Alto was amazing- it’s far from the city but you will still drive there and be seen before Sage gets to you) Sage then sent us a bill for almost $300 with a diagnosis of her having discomfort on her neck due to her collar. They clearly didn’t even look at her but still want to charge us. It makes me sick to my stomach how negligent they were. If it was for Sage we would have lost our dog. Do not go here!

Christine Brown Posted on Google 7 months ago

Fantastic experience: We were very happy with our care at Sage. The office was clean and friendly. There were two separate waiting areas so you could sit where you felt most comfortable with your pet. The triage process was quick and the time to see the Vet depended on how emergent your concern was but felt fair. There was good communication from the Vet and the team throughout the process. Printed aftercare was comprehensive.

Fantastic experience: The staff was kind, supportive and Very helpful! Thank you to the Sage Team. The doctor was very busy but she made me feel important and validated. It was an emotional time and everyone was gracious! I really appreciate the experience!

Fantastic experience: Friendly front desk, helpful tech and vet. Was seen immediately and our dog was well taken care of. Explained the procedure and post care thoroughly.

Caramia Marinelli Posted on Google 7 months ago

Negative experience: Don't bring your pets here unless you ABSOLUTELY have to. The negligence of the staff cost me my dogs life. I brought my dog into the ER for the same symptoms almost 3x a week every week. And every time they brushed it off as if it was nothing, told me "take him home and just let him rest".... with no additional testing or care. Turns out my dog was having seizures, and had they caught it early, it wouldn't have become fatal. Take youe pet somewhere that will take the time to really look into your pets condition, and not just brush it off like its nothing. Completley incompetent staff, and totally medically negligent.

Fantastic experience: Our dog had a massive foxtail stuck in his nose and SAGE truly impressed us with their service. We originally went to another emergency vet where our dog wouldn’t have been able to see a doctor for 4-5 hours. We called SAGE and they said they could take us in. We hardly had to wait and were met with the nicest member of the triage team, Tierney, who walked us through the process of removing the foxtail. Amanda the vet was so kind and made us feel calm about the procedure. Ryan at the front desk was so nice and friendly. Overall, the experience (though we wish it didn't have to happen) was great and they were clear about the costs from the beginning - we even got a refund when the procedure didn't end up costing as much. We even noticed that they cut our dog’s nails for us which was a great surprise when we got home. Highly recommend going here if you have a pet emergency.

Fantastic experience: Our forever hungry old man, Magoo, ate 36 grapes on Saturday and we took him to SAGE. The front desk staff was incredibly kind and reassuring, providing him with prompt care. Given the urgent nature of the situation, things could not have gone better, and we truly believe the excellent staff at SAGE made all the difference. The woman working the late shift at the front desk was particularly comforting, giving Magoo plenty of love and easing our worries. I highly recommend SAGE!
