Fantastic experience: We always appreciate the caring and helpful staff.

Negative experience: Before the gripe I will say that the front staff is friendly, as well as Dr. Jensen. They are the only redeeming quality and the sole reason for the two stars. After having a few engagements I can now wholeheartedly say that this practice is nothing but a glorified PetCo. They shirk from performing duties that an appointment was scheduled for and are still practicing as if pet care hasn’t advanced from the 1970’s. I know we are in Bakersfield, but modernization is still greatly appreciated. Speaking of, this is an aged out office with old equipment and handyman touch-ups seen throughout the building. It seems that no money has been invested into this practice since moving into this location. It appears to be clean inside but I’m not sure of the level of depth involved as my pet returned with fleas after their last appointment and I am adamant about their flea and tick prevention maintenance. The information they provide is vague and comes across as standard boilerplate, rather than specific assessment. They do not have the ability to offer a higher level of dental care that would result in being able to recondition teeth so that a tooth may be saved and instead offer only extractions. Which, to be fair, is what is generally offered at most veterinarian locations in town; but should be noted. Another benefit of living in the great metropolis that is Bakersfield, I would assume. When it comes to dental services, the price range for services at this location are considerably higher compared to other pet hospitals. It would be worth your time to call around to a few other places before deciding to go ahead with this particular location. Be ready to hear plenty of excuses if you try taking up offers from their promotional emails. Ultimately it will end with them flat out denying to honor anything of significance. Even when you are within the parameters outlined in the fine print. An establishment that pushes back as much as they had when it comes to a trying to apply a discount, despite how little of a discount it actually is and even one that they themselves offer to their clients, rings quite a few alarm bells as to the overall state of their practice. I appreciate the friendly staff but genuine care, for even your own facility, is much more appreciated.

Fantastic experience: January 2024 was my first visit to SW Vet office. They have a pretty good website and they allow text contact as well as the landline contact. And you can make appts online or order food and other things through the website. Office is small and the parking lot also but the numbered spaces are good for curbside pickup if you need assistance getting a big or heavy pet out of your car. I found the vet staff very pleasant and I liked my Dr Hiteshew and her assistant. I brought my fat kitty in just for vaccination boosters after having to move from Bakersfield Vet Hospital and fortunately my cat did not have side effects from the rabies shot which I was dreading. I recommend this vet office. Returned a year later in 2025 with Dr Holland for annual visit. And rabies booster. Pleasant staff and he was very nice and dedicated also. He recommended a prescription diet for my kitty who is pretty overweight so although the bag is pretty expensive I wi try it and hope she eats it and loses some weight slowly. She is middle aged. I recommend this office.

Fantastic experience: They were friendly, efficient and on time. I did not feel rushed with the doctor. My questions were all answered. You can tell they love animals. Cooper was treated like he was their pet. They billed my insurance for me and applied the payment so I did not have to pay the full amount. Great service!

Fantastic experience: Unfortunately we had to have our dog put down today. I have NEVER had a vet get down on the floor with any of my sick dogs until Dr. Holland did today. He showed so much love and compassion. He's definitely in the right line of work. I would HIGHLY recommend him and his staff. All of them were outstanding. Fantastic experience: Dr Love and the whole staff were amazing. They scheduled appropriately so that the waiting room was quiet and not crowded. The tech sprayed a fresh towel on the exam table with pheromones to keep my cat comfortable and at ease. Dr Love was thorough and thoughtful. Definitely recommend.

Fantastic experience: Took a cat in to have his matted fur shaved off, and asked them to keep as much fur as possible, and they did such a great job you can hardly tell he’s been shaved! Love them!

Pebbles ‍⬛ is back to his usual lounge self and loves the cuddles after being neutered they were fast and communicative the entire time! This is definitely the place for your fur baby!

We had to make the decision to send Kasper to the rainbow bridge yesterday after an emergency visit showed our baby boy had multiple serious issues. Fantastic experience: My cat Willow has gotten the best of care from Dr Holland and the staff. They go the extra mile to make sure our fur babies are well taken care of. Highly recommended to family and friends and to whomever wants epic quality veterinary care. Unfortunately Willow didn’t make it a few months later because she was very ill, and due to her age she couldn’t fight her illness. My other pets have been seen by Dr Holland and I’m very thankful at how thorough he is and the staff is very supportive. Kristen the Veterinary Assistant is very helpful and knowledgeable. Definitely found a great Veterinary team. Thanks so much because I know my fur babies are in the best of care. Negative experience: The parking for this place is ridiculous and they never answer their phones. In the afternoon time it's always a busy signal so if you have an emergency you better call in the morning

Fantastic experience: I didn’t have to wait too long for the doctor to see my cat. He asked a few questions & the he examined her & gave her vaccines. We talked a few minutes about cats & dogs. Then I left. The only thing is that it costs so much. But so does everything else.

Fantastic experience: We were patients of Dr. Holland's at Southwest Veterinary for years. We were perfectly happy with him, and we always received good service and the atmosphere was always friendly. We moved to a different part of town several years ago, but we continued to go to Southwest for all of our animal care needs. It got to be difficult to go all the way or to Southwest from the northwest, so we switched to a different veterinarian closer to home about 10 years ago. We got pretty good service with them for a while, but that gradually faded away. I'm happy to say now, we are back with Dr Holland at Southwest vet, and we couldn't be happier. He is so thorough, kind and attentive... Very caring with our animals, and explained me everything in detail, and actually has a PLAN!! This is something we hadn't experienced with the other vet. Thank you Dr Holland and staff.. you guys are awesome!!

Fantastic experience: We found a kitten in the engine of our car and we decided to keep her. We are pretty sure she was born in our backyard because the mom still comes around. We wanted to get her checked out because she was really young. I used the neighbor app to see where we should take her. This vet came up and we had an amazing time. It was very affordable and everyone was so nice. Unfortunately the vet we saw is no longer working there, the day we saw her was her last day. However the tech was so helpful and nice. I highly recommend this place and we will definitely be bringing Navi back for the rest of her shots.

Fantastic experience: It was the best experience I had they were kind and gentle with my dog Roxie She went in on Monday stayed the night on Tuesday she came out happy jumping running ready to go home I was given instructions in detail I was told to make a follow up if incisions were infected they called to let me know that the procedure went well and she’s doing fine I would recommend anybody to go there to get their pets spayed or neutered Thank you Michele Rodriguez

Fantastic experience: Been bringing my dog for check ups for the last year. Doctors are very nice and good at explaining what she needs or doesn’t. Reasonably priced. Vaccines are a bit pricey at about $50 a piece. Nurses and admins very not as well! You can tell they enjoy what they do. You get a free dog bath after a three day boarding. My dog is only 30lbs so is it’s not too bad. We’ll keep coming.

Negative experience: So this was my first time going to this veterinary office. I made an appointment to get my pet checked out because he kept scratching himself over and over and I just wanted to make sure everything was ok. One of the techs did all the procedures for a new pet visit such as weighing him etc etc. I mentioned to the tech that he had been scratching himself on his chin but also on his body. Finally the Doctor comes in and I mention the same thing to him. He checks out my pets mouth and verifies that all the teeth are good and tells me that my pet has a little bit of black heads and possibly light acne under his chin. However he didn’t really bother checking out the rest of my pets body. I mentioned to the Doctor many times that he has been scratching different parts of his body and still didn’t really care to check. It seems like I paid $63 for a dental check up instead of the concerns that I mentioned to the tech and the Doctor…

Fantastic experience: It was our first time here and It didn’t take long to make an appointment, staff were professional and empathetic helped me schedule tried to get me the appointment that would work with my schedule thank you again. When I went I didn’t feel rushed like at some other clinics and , they were kind and sweet with my pet and I. I will definitely be coming back. Thank you guys I am updating this review. Fantastic experience: This is the inside of the room. Such a nice sterile environment too. This was my first time here but our cats been here before. My mom passed so I took the cat. I needed to bring her in for a well check up and get some shots. The doctor let me know what breed she is and how much she weighs also when her birthday is. Our cat was in good health and I’m so glad. The dr and nurse are so professional, I am the happiest person that we both were treated so special. The appt wasn’t long and they took time to answer all of my questions as mom wasn’t around to answer them. I strongly recommend this facility. We will not go anywhere else. Thanks ladies.

Fantastic experience: My 12 year old boxer/bulldog, Cleo, was very sick but I didn’t realize SW Vet Hospital was appointment only. The person at the desk could have just sent us away but she said they would squeeze us in, if I could wait. Of course we waited, Cleo was too sick. It was only a few minutes and we were in a room. After her exam, the doctor took the time to explain in detail what was happening. Being an emergency, it wasn’t inexpensive but they did a great job giving her the care she needed.

Fantastic experience: The staff here are amazing! I’m so glad we found them. We adopted shelter dogs that had kennel cough and they were able to get us an appointment the same day we called.

Fantastic experience: Dr. Love is absolutely fantastic. She takes time to listen to my concerns and answers my questions thoughtfully and provides sound guidance when needed with utmost patience and kindness. She even follows up with phone calls in between appointments when test results come back. On occasion we have seen other Dr’s from the office as well and I have had nothing but good experiences with everyone. The front desk can get very busy/hectic, a little patience from clients goes a long way! I love that they’ll let me wait in my car and check out over the phone to make the process smooth for my pets.

Fantastic experience: Great place to take your pets people are friendly nice and know what they’re doing. They care about your pet like it was family and listen to your problems and they let you know what they find right away. Plus the prices are great compared to other veterinary places and places clean, and the people are always in a happy mood.

Negative experience: I wasn’t too happy with the service. I came in about to sit down a woman came up to me and said I had to sit in my car. I asked why she said it was due to the ringworm. I told her I was there before for the same thing and I was told nothing I didn’t appreciate the way she treated me, she needs to work on her people skills. I sure miss Dr Clark when she was there things were much, much better. You need to get together and work with the front desk. They are not working together, everyone tells you something different. Even when making the appointment that was an issue also!

Positive experience: It was full no place to park . Had to park behind the vet place, I came to pick up medication for my dog and had to wait 20 minutes. The only thing good was the animal waiting to be seen were cute and the receptionist was very nice.

Fantastic experience: Robot, our 14+ year señor Maltese has had problems with uncontrollable coughing and hacking. Dr. Love was able to squeeze in time to see Robot and supply him with 5-Star care and a plan to help his health improve. I’ve been going to Southwest Veterinary hospital for almost a quarter of a century for my other pets…I’m a longtime admirer and patient advocate. Thank you SWVH and staff for all you do!

Fantastic experience: We have been coming here for about 2.5yrs now and it is great! Dr. Hiteshew and staff take great care of my senior dog with an autoimmune condition and my senior cat. We are in the office regularly with Scout’s condition and staff always listens to any concerns and makes us feel welcome and also confident with his ongoing treatment. Thanks Dr Hiteshew and staff!

Fantastic experience: With three dogs, I find peace of mind knowing that Southwest Veterinary Hospital is there to take care of any problems. On my last visit, March 9, 2023, Dr.Kristina Love examinted Rita and David and gave them their shots. Even though I've been going to Southwest for over 12 years, this was the first time I had met Dr. Love. She is great, and I'm sure, who every pet owner hopes they will get as their vetinarian. Dr. Love is caring, friendly, professional, and offers advice on food and care, without having to be asked. I didn't feel rushed and invisible (as I have at some other vet cliincs). I felt welcome and important. This is also true for the office staff and vet assistants, every one of them is friendly and professional. So, when I take Rita, Louie, and David to Southwest, for any reason, I'm confident they will provide my Three Amigos with excellent care. Thank you Southwest Veterinary Hospital! And especially, Dr. Kristina Love.

Fantastic experience: Excellent experience. Dr Holland was kind, caring and helpful. He took time to listen and addressed all of my questions. He provided us some options of care for our elderly dog. I will definitely be returning.

Positive experience: It was very difficult to get my pet in, when she was sick. I was put on the ER list and was told I would be contacted when there was an opening. Three or four days later I was given an appointment. My Vet was very attentive, answered all my questions, and the visit was a good experience. I was billed for an emergency appointment, which puzzled me…after 4 days it is still an emergency visit?

Fantastic experience: Took my kitten to see Dr Holland- the visit went well- started Charlie’s shots and he checked out fine. We have been going to Southwest Vet for almost 30 years! Never had a bad experience.

Fantastic experience: Dr. Holland and staff not only takes care of my boy Ajax but also takes care of me. They do this by validating my concerns for Ajax's several mystifying medical events and know that it is important to me to have through explanations of these medical conditions as well as a through explanation of the course of treatment. I feel relaxed knowing Ajax goes to Southwest and that Dr. Holland not only has Ajax's back but he has mine as well.

Negative experience: I have called multiple times for my dogs records. I'm in the military and moved to El Paso and I was told they'd be in my email inbox. However, they were not in my inbox, updates, promotion, social or spam folders. I am about to do a 45 day training and I will need her records to board her. I leave in a few days. I originally thought this vet clinic was amazing but they fumbled the ball here. I am desperately trying to to keep my dog and this makes things so much harder.

Fantastic experience: The entire staff from front office to back office is exceptional! Friendly, kind, knowledgeable and professional. I had the mama cat spayed and her two kittens neutered there. Also started them on their vaccines and flea meds plus medication for tapeworms for the kittens. Prices are very reasonable compared to other veterinary offices I’ve taken my other cats to in the past couple of years.
