DR Steph Wheatley, new staff vet is OUTSTANDIINGLY SUPERB ‼️ she is so wonderfully gentle with our sweet old cat, CoCo. This was our 2nd visit with Dr Wheatley. As a cat owner too, she put us at ease immediately about CoCo’s issues. Completely relieved that our fur baby will be ok. Dr Wheatley again, was AWESOME! Kind, caring & informative. We are continually impressed with the entire staff at Hillside Vet. .

Fantastic experience: We have been with Hillside Pet Clinic for a decade or so. They have been professional and kind w our pet needs the whole time. We recently experienced a death of one of our beloved animals. HSP was above and beyond as they helped our family transition. They gave the utmost care and dignity. Talked us through all the steps and asked us if anything needed more explaining. It made all the difference for our pet and our family.

Fantastic experience: We took our bearded dragon here after taking her to a different vet that did not help us with the issue she was having. Dr. Steven's was very knowledgeable, kind, and explained things really well. Within a day, my bearded dragon was doing much better. I am pleased with the care we received from Hillside and will continue to bring my bearded dragon here!

Fantastic experience: We first moved to Anchorage in December of 2024. My dogs had diarrhea from the stress of apartment living as they were used to living at a quiet residence. On our visit, my poor babies lost their bowels all over the exam room. The smell was putrid. Dr. Sarah Stevens helped us and she had to step out to get a peppermint it was so bad. Everyone in that office assisted me in cleaning my dogs up for the ride home, they were kind and helpful. Dr. Steven’s never lost patience with us and took her time examining both dogs and visiting with us despite the situation. She was SO kind. Later on we have started to work with Dr. Gardner Montgomery. Both Dr. Stevens and Dr. Gardner have made many follow up calls just to check on my dogs and see how they’re doing when they experience illness or natural aging. I’ve lost track of how many times Dr. Gardner has taken time out of his busy day just to call me to answer any questions or concerns I have over meds for my older dog. Dr. Montgomery is genuine and passionate about animals. His heart is IN this. This office is SO wonderful. ❤️ Anchorage is a better place because of Hillside Vet Clinic and all the genuine souls who work there. I highly recommend this office.

Negative experience: Two days in a row I had the scheduler put me down for a different time other than what they told me. Not sure what is going on over there but we won’t be coming back.

Fantastic experience: We sadly lost our puppy to a tragic accident and the staff was incredibly kind, supportive and patient as we worked through everything. They made a horrific situation and the process manageable. We are grateful to all of them for their empathy and the difference they made.

Fantastic experience: The team took good care of my hedgehog when she was alive and took good care of her and me as she passed. They always really made sure they were double checking and doing things correctly and I really appreciated that. When we had to make the hard decision of putting her down when she became ill, they were so kind and helped me contact who I needed since I didn't have a phone that time and they never rushed me to do anything or to hurry up, etc. And they went the extra mile getting ink prints and quills to keep forever. Few weeks later I got a card from the team that made me feel really thankful for the team and for my sweet hedgehog. Thank you guys!

We can’t express enough gratitude for such a loving, compassionate team. They are all deserving of the highest level of recognition. Fantastic experience: I’m going to whisper this review because I secretly don’t want Hillside Pet Clinic to get TOO popular… but they do deserve every single star and then some. Finding the right vet feels exactly like searching for the perfect pediatrician for your human kids—someone who loves them almost as much as you do, notices the tiniest details, and somehow speaks fluent “dog” better than we ever will. That’s Hillside. Every single visit, they treat our lovable golden four-legged son like the VIP he believes he is (and okay, we believe it too). From the kind front desk to the doctors, who patiently listen and explain things in a way that makes us feel heard and calm, they go above and beyond every time. They’ve eased our minds, celebrated the big wins with us, and honestly just made us feel like our dog has the best possible team in his corner. Thank you for always taking such gentle, thoughtful, incredible care of my favorite child (I would say don’t tell my other kids, but they already know!) ❤️ P.S. Positive experience: The visit at Hillside went okay. I am finding that ALL the vets pretty much work within the same parameters. You're pretty much run through like a heard of cattle being treated like every other cow in the heard with no actual special attention and without being heard. The area that I saw as needing improvement was the vets listening skills. Though she listened to the words I was saying, I didn't actually feel heard because had I been a tually heard she would have taken the time to really look at the evidence that I brought in as well as the areas o. my cat that displayed the actual problem that I brought my cat in for.

Fantastic experience: The doctor and attendants were fantastic. They did more than what I thought they could do. My dog was frightened but they were great and calmed her down.

Fantastic experience: Dr. Stevens is phenomenal! We took our teacup yorkie in and were so shocked and impressed. She was very thorough, made us feel very comfortable, and did everything in the room with us present. She got our girl back on track and has a care plan for her. The staff are friendly and super sweet. As far as pricing, it is incredibly lower than the other vets we had tried. Several vets in this area are a cash grab. Hillside is not and they actually care.

Fantastic experience: They have taken extraordinary care of our senior dog, Sole…above and beyond does not begin to describe the staff. Over the last two years, they have helped manage Sole’s natural aging process with such kindness and compassion. In the midst of uncertainty in Sole’s final years, months, and weeks, Dr. Engel and the support staff sustained a sense of safety and trust that we will never forget. Thanks to their care, Sole’s quality of life at her advanced age was great. Hillside Vet had a way of making us feel like we were the only ones in the clinic at every visit. Thank you all for everything!

Fantastic experience: I’d say Hillside pet clinic took care of my needs, it took probably longer than it needed to however I do have two dogs. They were very nice there. They seemed to know what they were doing. It did seem like it would’ve been easier for everyone if there was a table for the dog to be on for shots, etc.. (but I'm no expert)

Fantastic experience: I just took my cats for their annual exam/vaccinations Saturday. Dr. Myhre was thorough and compassionate with my cats, as she has been for years. I value her advice and after going to Hillside Pet Clinic for eleven years, we continue to receive great pet care and I wouldn’t go anywhere else.

Fantastic experience: Wonderful car for my kitty Got her in the same day, I called them. The treatment was great and she is on her way to healing.

Fantastic experience: Even though they were all booked they still let us come in so our hamster could be seen. The staff were very helpful and friendly. If our hamster needs to be seen again sometime down the road we will 100% be going back.

Negative experience: We have been going to this vet for over 15 years. And when we got a pit bull mix they were judgmental and made us feel like a Pitt bull was bad. Really they are cuddle bugs and so sweet. When we had to put our first dog down they rushed the process and made a bad experience horrible. After that, we tried a new vet but had issues with Pitt bull judgement again. Fast forward 10 years and we got a reactive rescue Shepard. They blamed us for the reactive dog. One its the breed. Two we just rescued the dog with known issues. The only positive support was from their vet tech who instantly knew the breed and was like it’s partly normal and gave the dog a treat. Instant happy dog. Three years pass and no reminder to go in for shots etc. I call the vet and ask for help with a hurt dog and they tell me sorry we don’t take emergencies. Also shamed me for not going to vet in three years, but unless she needs a shot why would I torture the dog going to that hell. Deff need to find a better vet.

Fantastic experience: The receptionist worked with me to get a good appointment date wise and with my vet of choice. And, I was able to bring my dog in to see a vet tech ASAP. Very friendly all…people at the desk, vet tech, and most telling, perhaps, the other people in the waiting room☺️

Fantastic experience: Finally found a great place that sees our pet goose, listen to our concern and help us get him better. They actually listened to us and im just very thankful that they also are able to see our pet goose. They did blood test and im happy they did that. They offered Xray too but we are holding off, on that since it can be really stressful for a bird. Very caring, experienced and professional vet. We will definitely keep this place in mind in the future for our pet geese or ducks.

Positive experience: Everything was great except wait time. Didn’t get seen until 30 min after my scheduled appt time, then had to wait a good bit for the vet.

Fantastic experience: I’ve been taking my pets (dogs and birds) to Hillside Pet Clinic since 2003. Dr. Karen Myhre has treated my dogs for some time. She gave me many more months with my beloved JRT, pulling her back from the brink, for which I’ll be forever grateful. Yesterday, she saw my almost 13-year-old Staffie girl for various concerns. Despite its being a very busy day at the clinic, Dr. Myhre didn’t rush the appointment. She is always thorough, attentive, and compassionate. She is knowledgeable and thoughtful and kind. The clinic techs and administrative staff are, likewise, kind and welcoming. I have utmost confidence when I take a beloved pet to Hillside.

Fantastic experience: My bunny had an eye infection and they were able to get us in the next day. The vet and vet tech prioritized her comfort, make sure to soothe her when she got nervous during the exam before moving on to the next portion. They showed me how to give her meds and supplied them for us at the visit. The staff even moved us to the exam room as fast as possible so my bunny could be warmer, away from the windows. We’ve always brought our tortoise here because they are amazing with exotics. I’m happy to say that even though I live downtown, I will always go all the way to Hillside to get our pets seen there. Always.

Positive experience: Always a great comfortable time for Jax and I, Dr Gardner does a great job keeping Jax clam while the exam is being done and gives me tips to keep him happy and healthy.

Fantastic experience: We had an emergent situation with our leopard gecko, and Hillside worked us right in. The staff was very friendly and clearly showed their affection for pets, which made me feel very comfortable leaving him there. Our issue was resolved, and the doctor took great care in giving us follow up instructions and answering all our question. The staff also kindly followed up the next morning. I couldn’t have asked for better care for a beloved pet!

Fantastic experience: Another great visit to Hillside. Guinea pig Buttercup gives them 5 stars, too. Update 2025: same great service. All the staff are great. Buttercup is about 5 1/2 years old and going strong!

Fantastic experience: Dr Steven’s is a skilled, caring animal provider. I have Netherlands Dwarf rabbits, and it’s difficult to find vets trained on these animals. But she can also treat a cat, a dog, a bird, a snake. She is very gentle with my bunnies and seems to really care about their health, diet, and living environment. Plus the tech brought treats, so my bunny was very relaxed during exam. The front of the house associates express the same caring attitude. I won’t go anywhere else now!

Fantastic experience: They took great care of Gibson and were very friendly to work with. Gibsons root canal looks as beautiful as a canine root canal can, and he has fully recovered from the procedure with no associated pain or side effects. His teeth are also cleaner than I’ve seen since he was a wee pup. Overall a great experience and will definitely return here. Feb 8, 2025 update: still five stars and I’m endlessly impressed. I am moving out of the country with my dog and the Hillside staff are so knowledgeable and helpful. They are a breath of fresh air with this stressful process of moving with my dog! So thankful for them!!

Fantastic experience: My pup tore his dewclaw pretty badly on this ice. Dr. Wheatley is the vet who saw us and she was wonderful! She was very empathetic and knowledgeable. My pup loved her and left the clinic with a wagging tail. I'll be using Dr. Wheatley as my primary vet from here on out!
