Primary Care Animal Hospital: Reviews
Negative experience: They took my mone and still haven't helpedy pet. I did blood work then was told to have more blood work done. All along the vet said it was probably thyroid issues but they said I need to do other test as well. The. After the other test were done and the results were negative we went back to the idea it was thyroid issues. They quoted me 238 for additional thyroid test like I had said originally if that was the prime suspectiin then we should do that first but didn't do that! Then when I called to make the appt for the additional thyroid test they tell me I can bringy cat back in and they will take more blood. Well I get there and then all of a sudden the cost was going to be another 408 dollars not 238 like they quoted me! And said it was due to the timeframe. However never once at all tolde I had a timeframe for this 'add on" and now for some reason I have to do blood work for everything all over again? Complete scam! When all along the vet has always suspected it to be thyroid issues. Now I have to find another vet who isn't playing games trying to mooch me for money and I still don't know what is wrong withy poor cat! All while thyroid meds are like 30 bucks! And this could have easily been handled the first time with a proper thyroid test from the start! If it wasn't that then we could have done a full blood panel. I haven't had the runaround from any other vet like this before. I will report it to the BBB I want a refund on the previous blood work I paid for which I NEVER got the results sent to me on paper like I asked and I never got anything in writing about the charge for thyroid test will jump to 400 again if not done asap! You would think that would be mentioned. Not wait until I have my pet withe waiting on the waiting room for us to get the final blood drawn. Jerks!
Negative experience: I like Dr Jacobo but this facility is too busy. Was there over an hour and a half for labs. I will be using my local vet here-out. They are chronically understaffed with techs here. Prices have become unreasonable as well.
Negative experience: I used to love this place. Dr Jacobo is great but the business is bad now. 2 hour waits with appointments. 400$ for a simple visit with labs. Labs are send out now so no idea for several days what’s going on with my cat. Techs chronically understaffed. I will no longer be using this vet.
Fantastic experience: We had a really good experience at Primary Care Animal Hospital. Our dog started having blood in her urine and was trying to pee but nothing would come out. Our regular vet initially gave antibiotics and medication, and he said if it happens again, we should take her to the hospital for more test as he was thinking there was something in her bladder like stones. When the symptoms returned a week later, we knew we had to take her to the hospital. Since our usual clinic doesn’t offer urgent care, we searched and found this hospital on Google. They were able to see us the same day. The front desk staff was very kind and welcoming, and even though the place is currently remodeling, everything still felt organized and efficient. They performed an X-ray and urinalysis, found a bladder stone, and clearly explained the situation and treatment options. Because the stone was too large to pass naturally, surgery was recommended. They walked us through the procedure, provided a clear estimate, and scheduled surgery for the very next day. The entire visit took about 3 hours, and we felt our dog was in very good hands the whole time. She is now on the road to recovery, and we’re so grateful for the care she received. We also appreciate that this hospital is closer to home — we’ve definitely found our new vet. Thank you to the whole team for taking such good care of our girl.
Fantastic experience: Pricey but quality. My cat’s doctor was able to hear an extra heart beat and it turns out she has a rare abnormality. Thankfully it’s benign and something to just monitor for now. But I’m so grateful to be aware of it so I can keep a close eye on any changes as she gets older. I never have a problem getting an appointment. My only complaint is there is a huuuge gap in pricing for services compared to a low cost vet. But the care and service is top notch so I feel like I’m getting what I’m paying for. When it comes to my fur babies they are worth it.
Fantastic experience: My dog, Blueberry, is VERY nervous to got to the vet. All members of the PCAH Team, especially Dr. Tellez, were very accommodating and gentle towards Blueberry. I trust her professional opinion and recommendations for my doggies. I've been there a few times and have even recommended PCAH to my coworkers and neighbors.
Fantastic experience: My puppy Nicco love's Primary Care Animal Hospital He get so excited too visit Nicco start barking soon as the car get in the parking lot He runs to the door Funny part He weighs himself Veterinarians Doctor's & receptionist customer service amazing We love them service is beyond expectation Thank you Primary ❤️
Fantastic experience: My vet was very informative and quick to help my dog. She had an abscess in her anal gland that ruptured which has happened once in the past. The first time it happened, the vet I went to heavily pushed for an expensive surgery. Here, they recommended antibiotics send painkillers which worked much quicker and put less stress on both me and my dog. I highly recommend giving this animal hospital a try.
Fantastic experience: Went there for a second opinion to help with pets their chronic condition and they are improving. Very knowledgeable , Compassionateand friendly staff.
Fantastic experience: I have been taking my fur baby here for 12 years and he is always well taken care of. The vets are attentive and caring.
Fantastic experience: This review is LONG overdue, but this is easily the best vet hospital I’ve ever taken my babies to. So much so that they quickly became my babies’ primary vet. When it comes to choosing a place that will care for my babies there are two things that matter: 1. Price and 2. Do the people responsible for caring for my pets truly CARE about them? When it comes to primary care, it’s AFFORDABLE, and YES, they care! Many other veterinary clinics I’ve been to always tried to order unnecessary tests to get the most money out of me. Plus, it often felt like they didn’t genuinely care about my pets’ wellbeing. However, since coming here, the difference in service is so clear. They genuinely CARE and only do what is absolutely necessary. Even if you can’t afford a treatment, they work with you. I love this place so much; everyone I’ve interacted with is so helpful and friendly, and they’ve helped my babies through their troubles many times. I can’t recommend this place enough :)
Fantastic experience: I am so incredibly grateful for the wonderful care my pets have received at this animal hospital. They have consistently gone above and beyond to ensure my beloved companions are healthy and happy. The staff's dedication and compassion truly shine through in every interaction. It's such a relief to know my furry (and not-so-furry!) friends are in such capable hands. I highly recommend their services to any pet owner.
Negative experience: Every time I come here I spend so much money it hurts my soul. Literally just spent thousands of dollars for my pets procedure today and they also took my soul as a down payment. As I waited for my precious baby boy to be returned to me, I seen a male employee (not the guy with glasses) bring in a small looking French bulldog that was wearing a cone, literally dragged it from the leash that was wrapped around the neck, not a harness around the torso or it woulda been a bit more acceptable. The dog didn’t take single step, I watched it stiff as a board just sliding across the entire way down the hall by the leash wrapped around the neck. I waited for someone to have literally any kind of reaction but it never came, if that was my dog & I seen that I’d probably drag the guy by the neck to see if he likes it. Other than that everyone is mostly kind and professional. Coming here it’s best to prepare to spend more than expected everyy time, and don’t forget to bring your soul and your entire life savings just in case!
Fantastic experience: Very convenient hours Caring staff and doctors Fair prices We feel comfortable taking our cats to primary care Lakewood…. Helpful by phone … techs warm with pets … doctors never rushed (probably why there can be a wait) …. Phone call follow ups
Fantastic experience: Love this vet! Everyone here is great with my dogs, and the staff are always friendly. China and Camila are the best staff who always welcome people with their animals. They do get booked quickly so make sure to book in advance!
Fantastic experience: Get my dogs nails trimmed here and they are great and good price too
Fantastic experience: Everybody there is super but Jaime goes above and beyond. For example, when I brought my dog Pepe in after a cardiac event - without an appointment - Jaime completely understood that my dog was in distress and would not be able to wait. She immediately got Dr Jacobo and Pepe was seen and given the care he needed in his last hour. I very much appreciate Jaime for her professionalism and heart. Thank you. Update for 10-23-25 - Great people at the front desk! Nail tech is wonderful. Very professional and helpful all around.
Negative experience: I've been coming here for over 10 years and will never step foot in this place again. There's a reason why all their good Veterinarians have left and moved on to other clinics. They were the best clinic before 2020. After COVID every time I went in, there were signs I overlooked like: cleanliness, smell, holes in chair cushions, workers less attentive; sitting in a chair while you get the dogs on scale, unfinished construction repairs, dogs urinating and receptionist were NOT cleaning quickly or effectively... then another dog urinates in the same spot repeating the process. This year I was forgotten about and waited in the waiting room for hours, until they closed and they were like "What are you here for?". "My dog!..." I explained. This place is now completely focused on money, extracting every dollar they can out of you and put into the owners pocket. Don't explain things anymore (Get you in and get you out.) They are more expensive than competition and much more than they used to be. Past couple years if there is an emergency, they will tell you they have no availability for days to a week out. They used to make space if things were serious enough. DON'T GET YOUR PRESCRIPTIONS HERE!! 2x-4x more than elsewhere. They cancel your online prescriptions elsewhere and make no contact with you as to why. Making you come in and pay more for the prescription. They know how to price gouge and totally aware these animals are family members. They know what strings to pull!
Negative experience: I called this place Saturday around 12 o’clock. I got a machine recording and they never picked up the phone to talk to me. I base this. I’m very bad customer service. I understand businesses get busy but not answering your phone. Call is very bad in my opinion.
Positive experience: Some vets and so are the technicians are super professional and cordial.
Fantastic experience: My cat, Little Man, suddenly came down with an ear infection. I tried a home remedy to no satisfaction. Once again I knew I could count on the level of care and the fair price this outfit provides. For 13 years I've had dogs and cats who were treated here and passed away here when the time was right. I highly recommend Primary Care Animal Hospital.
Fantastic experience: Dr nakata and the whole staff have been beyond amazing to my pups. Even better they are 1/3-1/2 the cost of the vet we used to use in bixby. Major bonus points for being open so late and having a really reasonable exam rate. Mahalo nui loa for caring so much about my pups health.
Negative experience: The front desk staff are rude and give attitude. I’ve been here at least 4-5 times and on 2 different occasions, I’ve had issues with tie customer service from the front desk workers. They need to either train them better or hire more respectful and professional workers.
Fantastic experience: Friendly and efficient. Staff and Dr. Have always been very helpful with my Sapphire and the rest of my fur babies.
Fantastic experience: We have been coming here for over 7 years and they have always been so great! I have always recommended them and have brought every pet to them. They are pretty reasonably priced for a vet. Thank you primary care!!!
Fantastic experience: I would highly recommend Primary Animal Care. Their admin staff is friendly and welcoming, treat out pets like 'people' and share the concern we have for our furry family members. The clinical staff is also knowledgeable, thorough, and takes time to talk about any concerns owners have and explain and answer questions. I would not take any of my six cats anywhere else! PCA is Pet Care At it's best!
Fantastic experience: The staff at Primary Care is kind, willing to listen to a human's concerns and most importantly, put your animals well being first and foremost. They are open every day of the week for convenience and are just an overall great, local veterinarian to utilize.
Fantastic experience: I want to say thank you very much to the primary care animal hospital I had to put my best friend down Mr. Blue last week and I couldn't of ask for a better place to to do it at. These people were so compassionate they were so awesome they made the experience as good as it could be thank you so much for all your expertise and compassion you guys are wonderful thank you for everything.
Fantastic experience: People are great, prices might be a little high, but vet was great with my dog. Thanks again for your check up.
Fantastic experience: Everyone is very polite and the Doctor's are very approachable and are genuinely curious about my pet and the reason why they were brought in. 10/10 I always recommend this hospital I have never had a bad experience!
Fantastic experience: Everyone was so kind and compassionate. I appreciate all of the care, from the front desk, to the techs, to the vet.
Fantastic experience: THE STAFF GREETED US AS WE WALKED IN WITH OUR CAT ! WE HAD AN APPOINTMENT AT 4PM ,WE WERE A LITTLE EARLY TO FILL OUT PAPERS ABOUT THE CAT ! WE HAVE BEEN HERE BEFORE YEARS AGO WITH ANOTHER CAT ! THEY ARE FRIENDLY AND KNOWLEDGEABLE ! DR. MARIA EXPLAINED EVERYTHING IN GREAT DETAIL ! HE HAS ALLERGIES TO CHICKEN & POSSIBLY TO FLEAS ! SHE TOLD US WHAT KIND OF MEDICINE & HOW MANY TIMES TO GIVE TO HIM SHE HAD THE MANAGER PRINT OUT THE COST FOR THE VISIT PLUS THE MEDICINE ! THE PHARMACY IS OUTSIDE NEXT DOOR , THEY WERE FRIENDLY AS WELL ! WE WILL BE BACK
Fantastic experience: I asked her a bunch of detailed questions about my dogs, diet regarding supplements, wet food, dry food, her health everything and she stayed on the line with me so that she could really give me detailed answers regarding my 2 dogs diet. She also used her personal experience and answered all my questions phenomenally.
Fantastic experience: Very clean, very good staff. Thank you for taking care of my MoJo...
Fantastic experience: Amazing experience!! Easy to book and manage care our cane corso. Staff is great! Dr. N was super amazing as well! Very detailed and patient with my 191919191919 questions!! Highly recommend and affordable!
Fantastic experience: There is no better place to take a beloved pet to be cared for whether it be for wellness exams and shots or if your furbaby is sick. EVERYONE here is so kind and loves animals. The doctors are loving, knowledgeable, and we trust them implicitly! They have great hours so you can find an appointment easily. I cannot say enough good things about this vet! Now they have two locations in Long Beach. The original is off Lakewood and Stearns and they have extended hours and are open 7 days a week. They also have a smaller office in Bixby Knolls that is full of the same animal loving people as the original. Our friends and family bring their furfamily here too.
Negative experience: Pets are like family to us, but to Primary Care, they seem more like money bags. While the staff and Dr. are kind and courteous, this clinic operates with a clear profit-driven mindset. They overcharge for medications—up to three times the cost found elsewhere. When questioned about this, their response was that since the medication is dispensed directly from their office, the pricing reflects their "in-house rate"—essentially saying, we can charge whatever we want. They also aggressively upsell services like flea prevention (while discrediting other effective treatments on the market) and push "profile urinary and blood tests" that can cost up to $400. All I'm asking for is reasonableness. We love our pets and want the best care for them—but that shouldn't mean being taken advantage of when visiting the vet.
Fantastic experience: You know I really like these people. It seems like they really try their best with good care and honest pricing. I brought my border collie here for a spay years ago and recently came in with my doberman after he had a sudden and severe allergic reaction to something. His lips swelled up bright red, he had hives it was really scary and I thought the next step was going to be anaphylaxis. They took him in and treated him with Benadryl and assured me it was probably just a bee sting or something else which I later found out was something in the food because he had a less severe reaction again when he ate more of the salmon kibble later that evening. I didn't have an appointment, they saw him quickly and they were reasonably priced for the services rendered. Thank you!
Fantastic experience: I love primary animal care! Such a great team of doctors. So friendly and professional and I love the clean office environment.
Fantastic experience: When my lab passed, I couldn't seem to get off the floor with her. The doctor sat with me on the floor, and we sent her to doggy heaven together. I felt like part of the family. We highly recommend this vet.
Fantastic experience: The staff, nurses, and Dr. Monterrosa have been very informative, patient, kind, and great to work with. The prices are also very normal / have not been absurdly high or abnormal, and I appreciate that immensely.
Fantastic experience: Their customer service is great ! They handle your pet with care and love. My Mittens is getting surgery done here in 2 days. And I can feel with the doctor that he will be in good hands. I should have found this place years ago! ❣️
Fantastic experience: We love love love Primary Care and Dr. Nguyen and the staff. They always take care of us and love our dogs just as we do. We actually are there weekly (we have 3 Frenchies, with 1 being geriatric) and we feel grateful to have a vet office that we can trust. We trust them with our babies and have had the absolute best experiences here. We were at Bixby Animal Hospital previously and they were terrible. We had to have our other Frenchie put down last year due to cancer and the entire staff made the process as comfortable, empathetic and genuine as they could. Trust and believe that your pets are in good hands at this office.
Fantastic experience: I have taken both my dogs here for several years. The care they receive has been excellent and the prices are reasonable when compared to other places.
Fantastic experience: Primary Care Animal Hospital is excellent. Brought all my pets for decades. Dr. Jacob Balairon is our current vet for Mika, and is through, kind, and excellent. Love this Hospital.
Fantastic experience: Everyone is always so nice and gives helpful advice. Takes great care of my cats and dog with true compassion.
Fantastic experience: Love their staff. Very professional, very respectful. They helped me send my cranky old man over the rainbow bridge. Let me hold him in my arms as he died. Stayed with me and my parents until it was done.
Fantastic experience: Doctor Jacobo is the most competent, knowledgeable, and attentive veterinarian I have ever known. The staff are also very helpful and attentive.
Fantastic experience: Wonderful place to take your pet. Even if all appointments are filled, they will do their best to accommodate depending on what is wrong with your fur baby. The office is caring, empathetic and attentive to your pet’s needs. We have only encountered Dr. Jacobo but he’s the BEST !!!
Fantastic experience: This is the best vet ever. I’ve been coming here the last 4 years and literally every single staff member is so friendly, gentle and caring. If you’re looking for a new vet, COME HERE! You won’t regret it :)
Fantastic experience: I took 8 Ball in due to a torn ACL, surgery is warranted. The vet was very through in his examination and besides his ACL surgery we will also due dental work while he is out. His surgery is scheduled for next week. I will follow up then.
Positive experience: We loved the amazing customer service and care they provided for our Lola. Everyone from the receptionists at the front desk to the technicians to the veterinarians were great! However, the costs of the diagnostics, medications and treatments were very expensive requiring us to make critical decisions about our canine loved one because we couldn’t afford a lot of what they recommended.
Positive experience: Took my kitten in for a spay, since they take the Long Beach spay/neuter vouchers. Front desk staff are good, the doctors are great, the nursing staff is so-so. I sent an appointment request and they booked it with no phone call or reaching out at all. We took our girl in, thinking she was going to be spayed that day. Nope. It was a pre-appointment and cost us $200+. The surgery itself, after the voucher was about $300+. They requested a follow up appointment that I believe is an extra appointment fee.
Positive experience: Primary Care Animal Hospital has been our primary care for our beloved German Shepherd who passed away. The veterinarians here are really professional and compassionate. We would like to personally thank Dr. Jacobo Balairon for helping our dog live with less pain for another 6 months of her life. We also would like to thank the vet and staff for their compassion when we said goodbye to our dog. In our experience, the veterinarians are great at what they do. The vet tech and receptionists working there are a hit and miss. There seems to be a high turn-over since it's never the same people. There was a time when one of the vet tech was too scared to approach our dog (for no apparent reason) and requested for us to put a cloth muzzle on her. It scared my dog as she has never been muzzled before and we were disappointed to find that the muzzle was still on her after waiting for 4 hours. Thankfully our dog is ok, but definitely too long for a muzzle to be on. Other than that, the veterinarians themselves are great and were worth coming back for.
Fantastic experience: I've always preferred Primary Care, ever since they opened. I got tired of the VCA high prices, and the small private practices were booked 2 weeks in advance. Friendly, personable staff, very knowledgeable and helpful as well
Fantastic experience: Amazing! Very fairly priced unlike other vets I’ve been to. They take great care of my 2 cats and 2 dogs.
Fantastic experience: Dr Nguyen is a wonderful, caring veterinarian, as are all the staff. My 10 year old cats are healthy because of their care!! Update, it's been 4 years and, sadly, I lost one of my cats, Trainie, she had an inoperable tumor. They were so kind, caring and took such good care of her when she crossed the rainbow bridge
Fantastic experience: Primary Care Animal Hospital are really professional and awesome. They really love my pet and really care for him like their own puppy. Thank you Primary Care Animal Hospital for your amazing work!
Fantastic experience: We have been taking my fur babies here since they opened. They are always so kind and compassionate. They are great with your fur babies and with their humans as well.
Negative experience: They never have urgent appointments, always booking weeks out; it does no good to have a regular vet if your pet can't go when they're sick. They also are unable to give my pet's records in a timely fashion. If the last visit was months ago, why are the notes still not finished? Disappointed that the new vet will be uninformed on his past due to your poor bookkeeping.
Fantastic experience: Nice, reasonably priced, honest veterinary care. Always clean, and really care about you and your pets.
Negative experience: While this has been my cat's home vet for years. I just can't with their lack of communication of what's going on in the back and the front office. Dealing with 4-5 people passing my cat around and telling me different information is extremely frustrating. Taking time off of work, and shelling out hundreds of dollars for appointments, blood panels, meds, and every time they do a different treatment for the same issue. They don't seem to know what's going on, but will definitely let you spend tons of money to continue being left in the dark. For an average appointment, everyone says it'll be a few mins for the doc, for the shots,... to check out. Yet I am in the office for 1.5-2 hours for a 10 min doc visit, flea meds, and 2 shots. At this point, it feels like they're doing this on purpose. The front desk is rude and has some serious communication and attitude issues when dealing with the chaos that is a part of their own office. If your office is dysfunctional, that's a you problem. Dont take your problems out on your paying cumstomers. Will no longer be dealing with this nonsense. Unbelievable.
Fantastic experience: Clean and efficient office! We are always able to get an appointment quickly and are usually in and out of the office in about an hour. The vets are very knowledgeable and do not try to upsell services. We have been coming here since we adopted our dog 5 years ago and they did a great job when she needed some teeth pulled. We will continue coming here and recommending this vet office!
Fantastic experience: I always have a pleasant experience when I visit. The staff takes excellent care of my little dog, and the front desk team is always friendly and ready to assist.
Negative experience: I couldn't even get my pet through the door. I called a week ago and spoke to someone who confirmed my appointment over the phone for this past Friday. I then get an email that my appointment is instead on Thursday even though I confirmed a Friday appointment over the phone? So I call to confirm since the appointment time changed and they tell me that my appointment for Friday wasn't available even though I confirmed it over the phone. So then they said the Thursday appointment is open. So I AGAIN confirmed over the phone. Come the day before I get a voice-mail that my appointment apparently AGAIN was unavailable even though I YET AGAIN confirmed over phone and email. And then the morning of I receive a voice-mail that now the vet has called out and I have to reschedule? I don't know what happened but it sounds like they kept making mistakes and confirming appointments they couldn't even make with me. Regardless I won't be going there ever. And I received an email today thanking me for my visit even though it was canceled and I never showed up. Honestly don't trust your appointment will be set in stone.
Negative experience: We've been going here for years with previous cats (who are unfortunately since deceased). However, we won't be going back. We saw a different vet this time, Dr. Landa. He was abrupt and uncaring and went on and on about fleas, using a flea comb to "show" me that my cat had fleas. (There were no fleas and no flea eggs - I've owned cats for years and do know what both look like.) Then he went on for several minutes about Revolution. The reason we'd come was because of an issue with urination - my kitty no longer peeing much in her litter box but randomly piddling in other places. We suspected a urinary tract infection. Dr. Landa recommended blood tests and urinalysis -- $473 worth of tests. I said Ok and they did the blood tests but weren't able to do the urinalysis. He explained that usually, they use ultrasound to locate the bladder so that they can extract a sterile sample but there was an abnormal mass so he didn't want to do it. He said very coldly, "It looks like it could be cancer. You need to go see an internist" and the did give me a list of other places to go to. And then he still proceeded to charge me for the urinalysis. They agreed that they would adjust the bill and then I waited nearly an hour before it was adjusted and I could pay and leave. He said that there was an elevated white blood cell count and perhaps steroids or anitibiotics were indicated, but prescribed neither. When we initially took our cat in (she was a rescue and we were told she'd been chipped and spayed), the vet couldn't locate the chip and so we had her chipped again and initially said she hadn't been spayed -- though later discovered that she had. I don't trust this facility anymore and won't go back.
Fantastic experience: Love this place. I’ve been twice and they took care of my cat and my stray kitten I found. They took their time to research what could be given to him because he was so tiny. Happy to say Orange guy is on his road to recovery! Highly recommend this place and I already did to my best friend.
Negative experience: Horrible overpriced and just not caring. I had an urgent need for my animal to get care and I guess this business is version of urgent is 2 weeks out. You'd be better off looking for someplace else that would be I'm sure better than this place Or LBC vets my experience with both of these places was horrifying!
Fantastic experience: Great vet. Good care. Please do not overbook your vets and make time for emergencies.
Positive experience: I hate vets, but this place is okay. Don't feel obligated buy everything, do what's right for you. Check prescription price online first if it's really expensive. This is how vets make extra money.
Fantastic experience: If you have furry family members and need an amazing place to take them for all their health needs, THIS IS THE SPOT!! I have two rescues and Dr. Nguyen has been their doctor for more than 10 years. She's the BEST, but I've seen several different doctors, and they're all FANTASTIC. The staff couldn't be more patient, kind, and understanding. This will always be the place I trust.
Fantastic experience: The whole staff was amazing. They took care of emmie lou eventhough it was her first time. Dr nakata was amazing. I'm looking forward to bring emmie lou here for all her needs.
Fantastic experience: My dog had issues with his spine and couldn't walk for a short period of time but the great staff here offered Lazer therapy and just one visit he was walking again. Hands down the best vet hospital in LB
Negative experience: This office has really gone downhill. I used to love this animal hospital and was willing to drive the 30 minutes because they were so kind, honest, and reliable. However, the last several times we've taken our kitten, the receptionists have been very unfriendly and rude. Even hung up on me. They charge for things but then don't follow through or give you all the information, but it's your fault for not knowing. They don't take the same care they use to and have terrible staff, mostly with reception and the front office. I will no longer be taking my cats there and recommend you look elsewhere for your pets health care and where you spend your money.
Fantastic experience: Primary Care Animal Hospital is the best in LB! Fabulous front desk team and the doctors and tech are awesome. We only bring our fur babies here and we love it!
Fantastic experience: We love dr Cara, she really listens to our concerns and has genuine care for the pets she treats! We love ❤️ primary care you guys are the best!
Fantastic experience: All the staff is so friendly and you can tell they all know how to handle and care for the pets. My experience is always good there when my pets see Dr. Nguyen. She is truly the best vet! so attentive, patient, and thorough. I never feel that my pets are getting more test than they truly need. With most vets I have previously gone to, I feel like they are up-selling tests. We love Primary Care and especially Dr. Nguyen.
Fantastic experience: The hospital was clean and there was basically no wait time. The staff was amazing! Super helpful and patient with my questions. I plan on returning. It was clear that they actually care about the animals and aren't just here to make a quick buck. Pricing was decent as well. They also accept Care Credit, which is a plus! Making an appointment was super easy and fast! Even though it is close to a holiday, I was able to make 2 appointments within days.
Negative experience: UPDATED REVIEW (5/2024): I've been going to this vet since they opened and have been satisfied with their service and prices until recently. I took my senior cat in for a wellness check back in March and found out she had very high glucose levels, which explained the recent excessive thirst and litterbox use. At that point, she was diagnosed with type 2 diabetes. They sold me the insulin, syringes, showed me how to give her a shot, and wrote me a prescription for diabetic cat food. The rest of it I had to figure out all myself. Two weeks after my initial visit, she still wasn't really getting any better, and I was worried about giving her the insulin shots because she wasn't eating. They ordered additional testing to be done, and I brought her in to be observed for 3 days while they monitored her glucose levels. I got her back, they said she was doing well, but once she was home, it didn't seem like she was any better. I brought her in again and asked about placing a Freestyle Libre Glucose monitoring device on her that I learned about via the internet. So the vet wrote me a prescription. I asked if they could put the first one on her for me. They told me that it would cost $450 to do that. I watched videos online, and it wasn't a complicated process to do, and I had already spent over $2000 in vet bills with them so far. I told them that was way too much to charge for a 5-minute application. I told them I would do it myself but asked if they could shave her hair in the spot it was going to be applied, and I was told the vet wasn't "comfortable" doing that. So at that point, I decided I am done with Primary Care Animal Hospital; it's time for a new vet. I found a new, local vet in Long Beach not too far away, and guess what? Dr. Kessler was able to answer all the questions I still had, and she recommended the Libre sensor before I even told her that I already got one. I asked how much she would charge to put it on, and she said she does it for FREE as part of the office visit. After my visit with her, I felt so much better and confident that my baby girl was going to get better. Dr. Kessler checked in with me many times after my initial visit and was also checking my cat's glucose levels from the sensor via the internet. I am happy to say that things are back to normal, and my cat has been fine. One last thing, I recently got a new prescription for insulin, the same brand I got from PCAH, and picked up a 5-month supply at CVS for $35.00. Guess how much PCAH had charged me... $165.00 for a single months supply. It's obvious that PCAH is all about making $$$ and less about providing exceptional service so learn from my experience and choose a different vet! OLD REVIEW: Been using them for years... good with the animals and reasonably priced.
Fantastic experience: I have been taking our pets to Primary for over 10 years and all of the staff and doctors have a great deal of compassion for our bugs. Charlie is 70lbs Boxer/Lab/Pit and we have 2 kitty’s Max and Nona. Max is almost 20lbs and is not even 2 yet, Nona is 8lbs and turning 1yr old next month. Best service!
Fantastic experience: There is no better place to take a beloved pet to be cared for whether it be for wellness exams and shots, nail trim or if your furbaby is sick. EVERYONE here is so kind and loves animals. The doctors are loving, knowledgeable, and we trust them implicitly! I've been going there for years I love this place.
Fantastic experience: This is my go to vet! They are friendly, very knowledgeable, care about the animals they are helping, and are transparent. My dogs have had everything here from elbow dysplasia surgery to regular vet check up visits. Sometimes they can be booked up so I recommend scheduling ahead of time but other than that, they are awesome.
Fantastic experience: The veterinarians and staff are extremely pleasant and very compassionate and helpful. They genuinely care about the life and health of my dog Mac. The veterinary costs are very reasonable compared to other places I have been as well. I will continue to bring my dog here for all his veterinary needs and will recommend Primary Care Animal Hospital to all my friends and family.
Fantastic experience: Everyone was so kind and understanding, as well as helpful. It was greatly appreciated, especially when one has a nervous/reactive large rescue dog. I am also quite thankful that the fees were much more manageable than at other places. Areas were spacious and the attention was quick.
Fantastic experience: Brought my 17 yr old cat in to see Dr. Nguyen. She was kind and detailed and offered many suggestions for dealing with his osteoarthritis. She also drained the large cyst on his shoulder and ran blood and urinalysis. All this and I was charged about 1/3 of what I was paying at another vet. Thank you so much Primary Care! I will definitely be back!
Negative experience: This place sucks now. It used to be our go to vet, but they’ve recently either over-scheduled or have grown incompetent. There is no reason an appointment that normally takes 20-30 minutes should take close to 2 hours. My appointment was at 3pm. I wasn’t put into the room with my pet until 3:50, vet came in for around 4:15. The exam took all of 7minutes. Then I waited in the lobby for another 30 minutes just to pay. We’ll be changing primary vets. This level of gross incompetence is unacceptable.
Fantastic experience: Top notch compassionate care at a very fair price, by friendly, professional and empathetic staff. Dr. Cuervo was amazing and put my mind at ease. A true gem in our community, we're lucky to have you. Thank you! ❤️
Negative experience: They messed my cat up terribly. I took her to get antibiotics for a UTI. They kept her for 6 hours and never called me back. I went back wondering what's going on. When I picked her up she was is a terrible state and hasn't recovered. I have NEVER seen her like this. I am beyond upset and cannot believe how my pet was treated and mishandled. She won't eat, drink, vocalize and just stares at the wall. I don't know if she'll survive her vet visit. IF YOU LOVE YOUR PET, GO SOMEPLACE ELSE!!!
Fantastic experience: I no longer trust primary care hospital. Took my service dog to get her teeth cleaned and a couple extracted. They had a tech perform the extractions instead of a licensed vet. When they wouldn't give me an appointment during covid, I went to VCA. At VCA, only a veterinarian performs teeth cleaning and extractions. At VCA an x-ray clearly showed that the primary care TECH had broken, and left, half a tooth in her from their SUBSTANDARD PROCEDURE the year before. This caused her to lose another tooth right next to it. Not to mention the pain that she suffered for a whole year. BAD PLACE TO TAKE ANY ANIMAL!
Negative experience: this review is mostly regarding dr. landa - i would not trust him with any pet care as he as misinformed us 3 times now. we adopted our puppy around 6 months of age and unfortunately had several medical issues with him right away. the first strike we had with dr landa was him telling us that dairy/specifically goat milk was not good for dogs. this is false. i already knew this but even double checked with our dog nutritionist. the second strike was his instruction to operate on our dog’s cherry eye IMMEDIATELY. we have an eye specialist who reassured us that the repair didn’t have to happen in the 1-2 weeks that he tried scaring us into surgery. the third strike was regarding our dog’s leg. his leg was swinging outwards while running and dr landa wouldn’t even do an X-ray. just attributed it to “genetics and he spent too much time on newspapers as a puppy”. fast forward to an ortho consult who actually did an XR and advised he needed an ulnar osteotomy (basically cut his bone) because it wasn’t growing as fast as his radial bone. the techs and waiting room staff are fine and the facility is clean enough. but if you go here - don’t see dr landa.
Fantastic experience: We had a great time this past visit. Every staff we came across made us and our dog feel special. We moved further to this hospital but don't mind driving 30-1 hr for great service.
Fantastic experience: The doctor we worked with was gentle and attentive to our pet's needs. He listened to all of our concerns and made sure we had answers before we left. Our pet is back to feeling much better. Thanks to Dr. Balarion.
Fantastic experience: Dr. Magallanes was born to do what she does. I believe in my heart she has a God-given gift. She was there when we had to hear the news of our dear chihuahua Honey’s physical condition, and thanks to her and the entire team at Primary we were blessed with a few more treasured years with our baby. Now, she was the first to give our tiny rescued kitten Stormie a check-up, and she is just as professional, friendly, endearing and excited about her calling as that first day years ago. Our family thanks the whole Primary team from the bottom of our hearts. They’re forever family.
Fantastic experience: Dr. Maria was great. She answered all our questions about our new puppy and was able to prescribe flea medication for our 8 week old pup that worked within days!
Fantastic experience: The team is super helpful and happy to help, which makes the experience less stressful. Even though the wait time once we were in a room was a bit longer than I would have liked, because the staff kept me posted, it kept me from getting upset in the least bit. The doctor was kind, very knowledgeable and got a health plan going for my new fur baby.
Fantastic experience: We found a lost dog and their staff was so amazing and sweet at helping us help him. They are so sweet and caring 10 out of 10! Edit: We found the dog’s owner and returned him home!
Fantastic experience: Great experience, exceeded my expectations. Dog with extreme heart murmur got dental extractions. Amazing improvement after procedure.
Fantastic experience: Love this place, they are super friendly and patient to get you the help you need! Ive been taking my pet here for years and no problems and cost friendly for the amazing services they provide. highly reccommend.
Fantastic experience: Called on a Sunday mid morning to possibly get my dog seen for a semi urgent issue, their appointment schedule was booked for the day so they said to drop her off at 1230 so vet could squeeze her in in between appointments. They were able got me in and seen w the vet at 1230 without doing drop off pick up and took care of my pups needs quickly and efficiently. Appreciate the help on short notice and everyone who works here is very friendly. Been coming here for almost 10 years.
Fantastic experience: Dr Lambda & the Staff are always friendly & very accommodating. They treat my German Shepherd with the utmost care!! My shepherd does not like going to the vets office but they treat & handle him gently
