Fantastic experience: Receptionist and vet techs were stellar! They were caring and empathetic. Dr. Baxter was very focused, knowledgeable and explained everything very well. I believe she was the only vet on duty until 2 PM so things were moving as quickly as they could. But on a weekend, I think a second vet is warranted for the entire day to be available for cases that need immediate attention. Don’t think anyone complained, but it certainly wasn’t fair to Dr. Baxter.

We’re glad to hear that our receptionist, vet techs, and doctor made you and your pet feel supported and informed, even during a busy weekend. Your kind words mean a lot, and we’re grateful for your trust.

Fantastic experience: I wanted to circle back here to leave these comments after we brought our critically sick senior boxer, Zara, to AVECCC. We knew what needed to be done- she was at the end of her life, though it came to be suddenly. It was late at night, and I called them while fighting tears. Their staff were completely compassionate, starting with the staff member who answered the phone. When we arrived, they brought the gurney to the car and assured us she would be made comfortable before they brought her to us in a room. They quickly gave her some medications to help with comfort, gave her a cozy blanket, and the doctor was lovely. She was so kind and compassionate, and allowed us to have say in the pace of the process. As heartbreaking as the process was, they made it the easiest it could have possibly been. We are so appreciative of this facility's staff. Thank you so much.

Negative experience: I had a very disappointing experience with Dr. Park. During our visit, she presented multiple worst-case scenarios involving other dogs and gave us about different treatment options, which felt fear-based rather than helpful. When I asked if we could take our dog home, she strongly insisted he needed to be hospitalized and implied we would end up bringing him back in worse condition. She relied on X-rays from our primary vet, did minimal hands-on examination, and quickly said he should be hospitalized and possible surgery without much additional evaluation. We ultimately chose to follow our instincts, opted for fluids, and took him home. Thankfully, he was able to pass what was inside successfully without hospitalization or surgery. The experience felt rushed and unnecessarily alarming. Based on this visit, I would not return to this facility

Brenna, thank you for taking the time to share your experience. We sincerely appreciate you speaking with Dr. Park over the phone to further discuss your concerns. Fantastic experience: I had to take my cat in for an emergency as his face was all swollen and gunk was draining out of his eye. They got us in immediately and found that my Jake has a tooth abscess! They gave Jake a Shot of antibiotics and a shot of Gabapentin for the pain. They also sent us home with both as it was the weekend and they knew he was in pain and the abscess would only get worse! This was on Friday and they gave us a couple of recommendations and we were able to get him in to this Dr today. Everyone at the ER vet were super friendly and very empathetic. They treated him as one of their own and that goes along way with me. I know the cost is high, but just the fact that there is someone is out there who is available 24/7 is what matters when one of your fur babies is sick! So thank you to all for your help!!

Negative experience: I recently had my cat hospitalized for two days at AVECCC, and unfortunately my experience raised serious concerns about both their billing practices and the quality of care provided. From a billing standpoint, I encountered several troubling issues. On day one, I was given an estimate that included a $350 charge to cover any unplanned or minor additional services so they would not need to call for authorization. I agreed to this as it seemed reasonable. However, the day two estimated included an additional $350 “miscellaneous/unplanned” charge. When I asked whether any of the original $350 from day one had been used, I was told it had not. It was confusing and concerning that another $350 was being added despite the first amount remaining untouched. While this alone may seem minor, it contributed to a broader pattern of billing concerns. After discharge, I requested an itemized receipt and compared it to the amount charged to my credit card. I discovered an approximately $450 discrepancy — my card had been charged more than the total of services actually provided. I had to bring this to their attention in order to receive a refund (over a week after the discharge of my pet). If I had not carefully reviewed the charges, that overpayment would not have been returned. While I understand that estimates can differ from final charges, there should be systems in place to automatically reconcile charges and issue refunds when appropriate. Clients should not have to audit their invoices and this raises questions about the billing practices currently in place. In addition to billing concerns, I was disappointed by the overall quality of care and communication. My cat’s condition was medically complex, and shared decision-making and a patient-centered approach were important to me. While a few veterinarians took the time to answer questions thoroughly, there were multiple instances where I was spoken to dismissively, or not allowed to ask all of my questions about my pet’s treatment plan. I was concerned that they were trying to discharge my pet even though he still wasn't eating sufficiently or really able to walk. To me he didn't' seem stable enough to discharge, but they did so any way. During an already stressful situation, this lack of respectful communication made it even more difficult. In addition, when i visited my cat, I noticed that his IV line was physically caught in the kennel of another animal, preventing proper flow of IV fluids. I had to point this out to staff. I do not know how long it had been that way or when it would have been corrected had I not noticed it. Seeing a basic element of care compromised in that way significantly undermined my confidence in the monitoring and attention being provided.

Fantastic experience: UPDATE: We’re even more grateful for AVECCC. They helped us figure out that our sweet Jack has epilepsy, and they’ve continued to care for him ever since. Now they’re also helping our older pup, Sasha, who was recently diagnosed with lymphoma. Thank you again to such an incredible team. This is the second time in about 15 years we’ve needed to bring a pet to AVECCC, and once again, their care and compassion have been exceptional. Our shih tzu puppy, Jack, has a neurological issue he was likely born with, and he suddenly began having a cluster of seizures. The team immediately stepped in to calm the episodes, stabilize him, and provide the right medication and clear guidance. Every staff member we encountered was professional, kind, and reassuring during a truly scary time. We’re so thankful to have an emergency veterinary team like this to turn to when it matters most. Highly recommend. (Pic is Jack (right) and his sister.) ❤️

Fantastic experience: A very heartfelt thank you to Dr. Alex Beckley and all the staff who attended our old man Louie. We came in late evening and Cassie at the front desk was very kind and quick. Melissa and staff kept us updated and well informed in the time Louie was in their care. We appreciated how thorough Dr Beckley was, and after informing him that we didn’t live in Phoenix, he curated some patient care options to help us with the transition for care back home. It’s scary to be away from home when an emergency happens but i’m very glad to have chosen this facility. They were kind enough to offer their help via phone even if we live hours away.

We’re grateful we could make the experience a little easier for both Louie and your family.

Fantastic experience: We had to rush our Samoyed, Luka, to this wonderful facility on 2/14, as he was experiencing breathing and coughing issues. We cannot fully express our heartfelt gratitude to Dr. McKee and the entire kind staff who so lovingly cared for our Luka. Their kindness and genuine concern for patients and their families is absolutely remarkable and worthy of the highest praise. We were so distraught by our Luka’s condition but, as soon as he was seen, our distress became lessened by the warm, gentle care they provided and by the informative care plan that Dr. McKee explained in such detail to us. We join our Luka in sending the entire staff our sincere gratitude!❤️

Negative experience: Spent 195 dollars for an “exam” that the doctor completed. The doctor didn’t even touch my dog or write anything down. He was scribbling in circles on a piece of paper to make it seam like he was writing things down.

Thank you for sharing your feedback, Christina. We’re sorry to hear that your experience did not meet your expectations.

A medical exam often includes observation, assessment, and documentation that may not always be obvious during the appointment. The exam fee reflects the doctor’s time, evaluation, and medical expertise. We take concerns like yours seriously and would be happy to review your visit with you. Please feel free to contact our office directly so we can discuss further.

Positive experience: Not really sure how to explain this but I’ll try. The people working here were all so nice. Vet was great, nice at the desk. One of the attendants wasn’t great but not that bad either. My problem is the pricing is so out of control. I understand everything has gotten so expensive but nearly $1800 for blood work and X-ray’s is not ok. Not even close to ok. It makes me feel like the owner of this place doesn’t care about me or my dog because nobody can afford that. Just because they can get it way with it doesn’t mean they should. $820 for X-rays. I’ve been there before and it wasn’t like this. Just a hard pill to swallow when your dog is sick. Maybe this is what they all cost now but it feels wrong

Thank you for sharing your experience, Peter. We’re glad to hear our team treated you kindly, but we’re truly sorry to learn that the cost of your visit felt overwhelming. We completely understand how difficult it is when your pet needs care, and we never want you to feel unsupported. Your feedback means a lot, and we’ll keep it in mind as we work to provide the best care possible for both pets and their owners.

Fantastic experience: I cannot say enough wonderful things about this emergency vet hospital. I brought my Samoyed, Luka, in when he started experiencing a dry cough and sniffles, and as any pet parent knows, that can be really scary. From the moment we walked in, the team was incredibly kind, accommodating, and reassuring. They treated Luka with so much care and compassion, and you could genuinely tell they love what they do. The staff moved quickly and were extremely thorough - they ran an abundance of tests to make sure nothing was missed and diagnosed him right away with kennel cough. A very special thank you to Dr. McKee, Carlos, and Shane for being so attentive, gentle, and caring. They took the time to explain everything clearly and made sure both Luka and I felt comfortable throughout the entire visit. BIG thank you from Luka

Negative experience: I’m giving 1 star only because they don’t offer negative stars. Extreme wait times. Horrible communication except when you walk in any they play on your emotions as they get ready to screw you. The worst service you could dream up in your mind. DO NOT TAKE YOUR PET TO THIS PLACE!!! We paid $195 for a four hour wait just to learn how absolutely horrible this organization is. They not interested in your dog’s wellbeing or yours ….they are interested in money. PERIOD. This coming from a person who never writes reviews. I’m so pissed I had to share.

Negative experience: Where to even start! We were charged almost $1,300 for a weekend ER visit for our dog and were not impressed by the visit in any way. It was crazy expensive for not having any more answers than before we arrived. Subpar service and care at best. We were sent home after about an hour (around 9 am) and told doggo's blood work would be sent to lab that day and to "stay close by" in case they called back to have us come back in within the next few hours for urgent surgery. We left not knowing what his condition was, while he silently suffered at home, waiting all day. No call. My husband finally called just before 8pm and no apology for his expressed frustration of waiting and waiting and needing answers, just that someone would call him back shortly. Finally, just after 9pm, we received a call back regarding "some questions" we had. Um...yeah...we had lots of questions, including first and foremost, why no one bothered to call us that day and give us any information our dog's condition. What did blood tests show? What did the radiology report show? What did ultrasound show? Was our dog okay, should we be worried? Then we proceeded to go in circles with the, I think, doctor who returned our call, who just kept responding to our concerns as a "misunderstanding" and wouldn't give us any information on what was going on with our dog. I can't believe we paid $1,300 for literally no answers, no peace of mind, and utter lack of concern from your staff. So disappointed. I'd really like our money back because I don't feel we got anything for the fee we paid. I will not come here again and definitely will not recommend others come here for (emergency or any!) care needs. Be more communicative, empathetic, and responsive to your clients!

Fantastic experience: I called multiple vet ERs before deciding on this one, because I was told they are equipped to handle more complex emergencies. They took good care of my baby, who had an URI, and was having trouble breathing. They took him back right away and put him in an oxygenated kennel. They were reassuring, knowledgeable, patient and less expensive than what I had already spent at my normal vet. I took him home and he was doing better, and they had the medication he needed that isn’t arriving until Today from Chewy. I had a great experience here during a very difficult night. We saw Dr Jenny Bauman, who helped me to feel at ease, and understand my options, and June was especially sweet.

We’ll be sure to pass along your kind words to Dr. Jenny Bauman and June—they’ll truly appreciate it. Thank you for trusting us with your pet’s care, and we’re wishing him continued improvement. Fantastic experience: I cannot say enough about this place. My little dog, the only thing I have in this world needed emergency surgery in order to save him. They worked with me in price. The surgery was successful, but then he had complications afterwards, and they had to intubate him. The doctor called me every 2 hours with updates.I was terrified that I would lose him. They encouraged me to come with his dad and see him, said they thought it would help. We went to see him, and talked to him, telling him he had to fight. The nurse said she was going to be with him 24/7 and not to worry. They called me 14 hours later and told me I could bring him home. The saved my kid and gave him the best care I ever could have hoped for. If your pet is sick, this is the place to take them.

Negative experience: Waited for over an hour for a dog that was actively bleeding from a ripped skin tag. Just left her on my car, came out to check on her vitals but was a 1.5 hr wait to even be seen. When she was seen, they said "they don't do skin issues" after waiting all that time. And was forced to go home with our pet still actively bleeding and was forced to find a different hospital.

Hi Carly. Thank you for taking the time to share your feedback with us. We are sorry for any frustration you experienced with emergency wait times, as patients are seen based on severity. Negative experience: I’m grateful that emergency veterinary clinics exist, but as with any hospital, the quality of care depends greatly on the staff. While the technicians were kind, I found the overall level of compassion and bedside manner from the doctors to be lacking. When I brought my dog in for an emergency, I did not expect to feel judged. I was surprised to see comments in the medical notes about my dog’s coat being “dull and unkempt,” as if I should have taken him to a groomer before seeking urgent care. I also agree with other reviews that mention these facilities feel very money-driven. I was hoping for more empathy and understanding during a very stressful situation, rather than being spoken to as though I didn’t understand my dog’s condition or was being unrealistic or naïve.

Arizona Veterinary Emergency & Critical Care Center (AVECCC)
Arizona Veterinary Emergency & Critical Care Center (AVECCC)

Thank you for taking the time to share your perspective, Kari. We recognize how vulnerable and overwhelming it can feel to seek emergency care for a beloved pet, and we appreciate you being open about how that experience came across to you. Our goal is always to provide clear medical communication while supporting both pets and their people during stressful moments. If our words or documentation were perceived as judgmental or lacking empathy, that was never the intent of our veterinary team. We’re grateful you acknowledged the kindness of our technicians, and we value your feedback as it helps us reflect on how we can continue to improve communication and the overall experience for our clients.

Fantastic experience: They went above and beyond to help my girl Ellie. We had come in after she had been hurt by another dog. They got us in as quickly as possible, made sure she was comfortable while we were waiting and when they took her back to check her out. They were busy but still took their time to connect with my family and take excellent care of my dog and they were so kind to answer all my questions and reassure me, you can tell the people here actually want to help you and your animals and they are so kind while they do it even when it’s 1 AM and everyone in the building is tired. When we said we couldn’t afford the full estimated price they gave us resources so we could get her help at a good low cost vet, wrote her prescriptions out so we could save money getting them at Walgreens and even clipped and cleaned her wounds and nails free of charge. I don’t know of any other place that would help like that. They genuinely cared about my pet and my family and they understood that she is my baby and they treated her as if she was their own. I will forever be grateful for the team that helped her! ❤️

Fantastic experience: Our sweet Odie had a very scary sudden onset of an autoimmune disease. The staff was extremely helpful, kind and efficient. Dr McKee and Dr Zayas were knowledgeable and thoroughly explained the situation. Emma and Tessie and all the staff we so patient and sweet. I had to leave Odie in the ICU, which was very hard. Negative experience: Lied to and mislead!!! DO NOT BRING ANY OF YOUR ANIMALS HERE IF YOU WANT THEM TO BE TREATED, RIGHT!!!! I took my dog here Sunday night at 7:15PM. She was having severe vomiting and severe bloody diarrhea that day.... As soon as we realized it we took her to the hospital!.... Prior to bringing in, it was just blood coming out only! We finally got into a room around 9:00 p.m. Doctor finally came in And downplayed the entire thing stating that blood in stool in dogs is not as severe as it is for humans. We told the doctor our dogs health history (low blood platelets)... And prednisone as a treatment for many years which is very hard on the liver. We've been monitoring her health generally every couple of weeks to every couple of months! We have been on top of her health!... So for this to occur, was not normal at all to say the least. The hospital advised us to leave and indicated that they would call us in an hour or so.! My husband and I left at 9:30 p.m. 3 hours go by And we haven't heard from them, So I called them at 12:45am. The guy that answered the phone lied to me stating that "the doctor is reviewing your dogs test results, blood work, x-rays, and ultrasound as we speak, And will call you shortly." Another 3 hours goes by and the doctor finally calls me at 3:30 a.m.... And I find out they have done absolutely nothing to treat my dog. Prior to leaving they collected almost $2,000 and we gave consent for them to treat her with anti-nausea medications as well as pain medications.... But instead my dog just sat there for 8 hours untreated! Then the doctor says she thinks they should keep her overnight.... They already had kept her over night and done absolutely nothing!!!!! When I ask her why she wanted to keep her overnight, she said so we can give her anti-nausea medication and pain meds. I said that's what you were supposed to have done anyway.... And she wanted to charge me another $2,000. Needless to say, they finally gave her the meds and when I I went to pick her up at 5:00 a.m. she was really doped up. The doctor seemed like she needed to explain that she gave her the lowest dose pain med and it really made her sedated. We were planning to take her to the doctor the next day for a more in-depth ultrasound (per the hospital's recommendation... As apparently they don't have high-tech ultrasound equipment), but she died 2 hours after we brought her home! I think they didn't realize what an emergency it was and just left her sitting there while they treated other dogs. My poor sweet dog suffered all those hours! If they didn't have time for her, they should have referred us to a different hospital!... Then when the doctor finally realized it was an emergency, she freaked out and decided she wanted to keep her overnight And charge us for her own mistake and oversight. This was absolutely negligent and I don't appreciate being lied to or talked to as if it's not an emergency! Hospitals should tell the truth and doctors swore an oath, And that oath was definitely not lived up to! I am so devastated and distraught! It's so absolutely terrible!!

Fantastic experience: We were referred to the ER from the dental dept. Our yorkie was promptly triaged and tended to due to her blood work and new kidney issues. Every staff member was professional, empathetic and caring. Vet consultations were thorough with options given and choices based on our considerations combined with their best recommendations. Negative experience: This place is an absolute money pit and should never be a first choice to take a sick pet. We went with our dog who was seemingly sick with an upset stomach. When the vet came in the room (Dr Hopey) we were given what I felt like were timeshare options. This doctor had to worst bedside manner and it was clear that empathy was something that was hard for her to find. All options well above $1000. We worked with the assistant who understood we wanted to make our dog feel comfortable and take her home. Pain meds and fluids were almost $700. Later on, our dog did not improve and sadly had a seizure in the car on the way back to the vet. We think she passed and instead of examining her quickly in the emergency room they asked my 10 year old son if we wanted to resuscitate. They whisked her away and then came back telling us she had passed and then had us sign paperwork to pay over $1500. For what? We had just lost our dog and our kids were crying and all they cared about was an enormous bill. How can you ask a family that has paid so much to you already to pay more? I would never recommend taking a pet here because all they cared about it how you will pay their ridiculous prices for medical care that is subpar. They have no empathy and terrible tactics to drain every last drop. We are left with a beloved dog who is gone forever and over $1300 is bills for services that were unsuccessful.

Positive experience: Came in very late for an injured pup. We did have to wait a really long time (about an hour longer than they originally estimated) to be seen because there was only one vet working at the time. Negative experience: Went there under the guise that they accepted certain payment methods after visiting anotheremergency vet that morning and because my puppy managed to get some new vaccine resistant supper strain of parvo, they made us wait in the car (with outside temperature almost 100⁰ that day for 3 HOURS just to be told we had to take him somewhere else! In that time my 6 month old puppy had stayed to go down hill FAST! I want even allowed to take him out to do his business, and so because of their unacceptable time management he went in to backseat of my car and all that did was give me a roll of paper towels to clean everything up. Finally whilst looking for a third place to take him, to save face, they didn't charge me the initial office visit fee of almost $300, they also administered meds and fluids to make him Road worthy to just go 5 miles up the road. I DO NOT RECOMMEND these guys unless you have money walking in the door and time to kill. I literally waited almost 5 hours just to be told "sorry, we can't help you" because of the charity, I have them 1 star

Fantastic experience: Bam suddenly presented with inability to move any of his legs. (future dx FCE) Called AVECCC and they immediately said bring him in. Dr Saree Shogren was his primary with Dr Megan Colborn for the night shift. Both Doctors kept me apprised of his condition through his time with AVECCC. Both in my opinion were fantastic in caring for my boy. Then there was the staff, talk about caring, compassionate, and understanding. This has been a stressful situation, but they did the best they could for me. Very empathetic. All said and done. If you have an animal emergency run don't walk to AVECCC. Thanks All in Bams care with you.

Fantastic experience: I recently lost my cat Pip after taking him in for emergency care. Without going into detail, the staff were incredibly compassionate, informative, helpful, caring, and a lot more. It was a devastating week and they made it a little bit more bearable, and kept me realistic in keeping Pip’s best interest in mind as well. When I had to euthanize him, they were very, very kind. Let me spend as much time with him as I wanted, and even rechecked him when I felt uncertain if he had passed. You would be very fortunate to have your pet in this teams care if they ever have to be hospitalized or euthanized. Dr. Wilkins was really amazing and Tessie and I wish I remembered all of everybody’s names because everybody was honestly awesome. Thank you for everything you did for Pip and for me. Anyway, fly high buddy I love you and I miss you.

Fantastic experience: Above and beyond care, communication of surgery plan/cost/after care and providing us with a specialty vet in our home area for after care or any follow up that our vet couldn’t provide. As a client visiting the area I would highly recommend after the traumatic, scary emergency we had. They made us feel safe, confident in their services to care for our dog that broke both front legs and had to have surgery. Pictures: after admitted to emergency, after surgery, resting at home.

Fantastic experience: The staff and medical personnel were all terrific. They kept us informed as to what they were having to do to our pet and what they may have to do. The surgeon even called us the next morning to let us know how Bella was doing and what they found during the surgery. Many thanks go out to all of the staff at Arizona Veterinary Emergency Clinic of Chandler.

Negative experience: A friend & I took her dog on Thanksgiving evening. Called ahead, and no one in the waiting room at all the first 2 hours. The 5 pound Chiuahua hadn't pooped in 7 days, yet owner had 2 previous visits to regular vet within that last week. Had blood tests, sub Q fluids, etc. Still no poop. The staff if friendly, but the prices are outrageous and off the charts compared to other ER vet hospitals I've been to. It's the same cost to do an x-ray at 2pm as it is at 2am, yet the price is way above normal range for an ER Animal hospital. $600 for basic xray. After being shuffled around for 3.5 hours... the dog had no fluids at all while waiting. I was dry and thirsty myself just waiting so long. They wear you down waiting, gave a huge quote of $1,200 then sent in a "Closer" to see how high of a package they can upsell you. We said upfront the dog already had blood work done 2 days ago. We even recommended just doing another round of sub Q fluid. Ended up leaving and paying $195 just to walk in the door. The vet took the dog to a back room to check heart, but the heart was already checked by regular vet 2 days prior. Then the dog was in the back room for 30 minutes... really? Were they checking a heart for 30 minutes beyond what the tech checked who did a 5 minute exam on arrival. For basic sub Q fluids, a 10 minute process, they estimated a 2 hour wait, and to leave the dog. Too long of a wait. Way too expensive. Sub Q fluids at regular vet was $30 that the dog had 2 days prior, and this place was $121 (3 times more) for exact same thing. But you can't get the exact same service without paying the $195 entrance fee for walking through the door, plus other added fees. This is a racket to take advantage of people who they know are emotionally vulnerable with their pets. Very disappointed in our animal care system. They claim to be the #1 ER vet hospital in AZ... at those peice quotes, they should be! The bottom line... the dog received no actual service in 3.5 hours, which should have been an in and out case for what we were asking and expevting. We sat and researched ourselves during the 3.5 hour wait and found our own $20 remedy at the 24-hour pharmacy (after ruling out obstruction on our own)... and by the next day she finally pooped with our additional hydration remedy. I'm sure their will be a canned response to follow.

Ida, we understand how stressful it can be when a friend's beloved family pet isn't feeling well, especially on a holiday evening. We appreciate you sharing your experience as you witnessed the ebb and flow of a busy emergency veterinary hospital. Emergency hospitals do sometimes experience delays, even when the lobby appears quiet, as we’re triaging cases based on medical urgency. We also understand how difficult waiting can feel without frequent updates.

We understand emergency care can be costly and unexpected. We strive to make every effort to ensure our prices are comparable to other emergency facilities in our local area. We appreciate you sharing your perspective so we can continue to improve how we communicate estimates and recommendations.

We’re glad to hear that your friend's dog is feeling better now, and we’re sorry the visit didn’t meet your expectations. We’d really value the opportunity to speak with your friend directly so we can learn more and address any remaining concerns.

Negative experience: It was 4 am, I brought my dog in for a pretty bad allergic reaction to most likely a bee sting. The staff was extremely nice so I was very happy about that. Unfortunately, my dog did not receive the care he needed. His face was completely swollen, I let them know I had already given him benadryl and it did not work and made him throw up and he was getting worse and more swollen, so they thought the best form of care would be to give him more benadryl and nothing more. Almost $300 for benadryl... Not only did it make my dog so sick he threw up everywhere, but it did absolutely nothing to help him and his whole muzzle and head swelled up even bigger like a watermelon. The picture i posted doesnt even show how much worse he got, thats how he looked when I took him in! I had to later take him to my vet who told me that benedryl is not a proper treatment. My vet was very competent and gave my dog steroids and anti-nausia meds which finally took down the swelling. When you are helpless at 4 am the ER Vet is your only hope, however, this incompetence could have cost my dog his life and cost me several hundreds of dollars since it was a useless trip and I had to spend even more money taking him to my Vet once they opened. This was an easy fix, Very disappointing that an ER Vet had no knowledge on vet care and almost cost my dog his life!

Negative experience: I had a very troubling experience with Dr. Steen and the veterinary team. My dog, who was already experiencing severe seizures related to valley fever, was given what I later learned was approximately 3.5 times the recommended dose of medication. This error caused complications in my dog’s recovery and made an already stressful situation even more difficult for my family, eventually leading to euthanasia. What was especially disappointing was how the situation was handled afterward. I felt there was minimal accountability taken by the office, and I was still charged for the night during which the medical error occurred. Overall, this experience left me feeling uneasy and unsupported during a critical time for my dog. There are other near by emergency veterinarians and if you love your animals and what the proper treatment and care for them, avoid this business!

Fantastic experience: My 10 month old kitten has had a reoccurring ear infection and wheezing since I got her six months ago. She’s been to 4 different vet visits and all they did was shove medicine at me and a ridiculous bill and sent us on our way just for her infection to come back. She stopped eating so I took her to emergency and Dr Morgan Pearson finally helped us and gave us a diagnosis and recommended we see a dermatologist for her impacted ear infection. I finally got someone who wanted to help my little baby. Thank you Dr Pearson.

Negative experience: I have to say, I’m terrible disappointed in this practice. I, due to a long drawn out experience, ended up with a litter of newborn kittens I saved from a dangerous life or death situation. They still had their placenta attached and were very cold. I called the AZ Humane Society and they told me to take them to my nearest Emergency Vet. They said they’d call the Humane Society to dispatch a transporter to pickup the kittens. So being closest to this one, I arrived, only to be turned away by several of your staff. I understand it wasn’t convenient and it was arguably dangerous, but I was horrified to hear them say “We don’t have the tools to take care of this, you’ll have to go elsewhere”. You’re an emergency vet. Are you serious? They basically turned me to the curb with a box of dying kittens. I called the Humane Society again who said they are in fact not allowed to do that. How can you guys turn away people needing help? I mean, what if they were my kittens and you just told me too bad, basically?

Hello Alexis. Thank you for taking the time to share your experience. We’re truly sorry for the distressing situation you faced and for how you felt when you came to our hospital. It’s clear you acted with compassion and urgency to help those vulnerable kittens, and we commend you for that.

We are proud to offer emergency first aid to sick and injured stray animals in our community. That being said, there are limitations to the services we can offer to stray animals—especially when it comes to one-on-one neonatal care. We are grateful for our partnership with the AZ Humane Society; however, stray animal transfer is at their discretion. It is always recommended to drop off stray animals directly at one of their locations. We're also happy to provide resources and contact information to facilitate further care.

Positive experience: They sedated and took trays of his leg and showed us where they suspected it was broken. Giving us options to repair it but they wanted to c charge more to splint it. The trip already cost us almost $1000.00 and since we didn't have more for the splint, they let us leave without doing it. For that amount of money, and the welfare of my dog, they should have at least splinted it.

Fantastic experience: We came here with our 11 year-old dachshund on the recommendation of our primary care vet. He was deathly sick. The doctor came out with a huge array of tests and a very expensive pricing sheet to keep him for two nights. They discovered that he has Addison’s disease, which is an autoimmune disorder that attacks the adrenal glands. Very rare in an 11 year-old small, male dog. Keep in mind this is the third place we had taken him…the other two Vets absolutely missed the diagnosis. I went to the back to visit him with my wife, where I clearly saw where my money was going. They have an army of people working back there. It looks like a critical care unit of any major hospital. They stabilized my little guy, brought him back from the brink. Now he’s home with us. I cannot thank the doctors, the front desk, the staff, and the technicians enough for what they have done. Thank You. All of you!

We took our baby there a few days before and came back with some issues with her unfortunately. The doctor who came in made us feel secure and heard our concerns and handle it with ease. As well as the older lady who took our baby to the back room sat and chatted with us for a minute and really went over everything with us and made it feel like it was our decision on what to do and wasn’t being forced into a 2,000 bill. By the time I got to here, I was a wreck and my Aslan was in horrible pain. Dr Weinzierl & the entire staff was incredibly compassionate. Aslan would not be leaving here & the care they gave him in his last moments was kind and loving. They also staff a grief counselor, who spent some time with me. Positive experience: Friendly and respectful team but there was only 1 vet available for HOURS and then they called in another doctor and things moved along. Does not feel like a very cat friendly hospital, they didn’t take my concerns as seriously as the ones who came in for the pups. Overall if you have a dog this is a great place because it is open 24hrs, if you have a kitty who is sick but can hold over until the next day- just take them to their regular vets office. We waited over 9 hours before we could be seen and my cat was not doing well and he was kept in a carrier the whole time.
