BluePearl Pet Hospital: Reviews
Fantastic experience: My 27 year old cat is alive and well today due to their quick service. They are truly the best experience I've had with ANY medical service - people or animal. So often Dr's and their staff do not listen due to so many factors which leaves care suboptimal. While here they took the time to listen, provide updates, were caring, concise, and if you need vital care for your animal you need to go here.
Fantastic experience: Our Daschund just had IVDD surgery a couple of days ago - a harrowing experience for pet parents and patient. The team at Blue Pearl were so helpful and kind - from the people at the front desks to the techs and doctors. They made a difficult time so much easier - basically held our hands through the process. Most importantly, the communication from them throughout this process was timely and specific. Dr Scoda, who did the surgery, called us before and after the surgery with updates and took the time to answer questions - never felt like she was rushed. Day 2 after surgery and Felix is doing well. We appreciated all the info we came home with to help him get back on his feet.
Thank you for sharing your experience during Felix’s IVDD surgery journey. We understand how challenging such times can be for both pets and their families. It’s wonderful to hear that our entire team—from front desk staff to techs and doctors—provided the support and kindness needed to ease the process. Dr. Scoda and the team are committed to clear, timely communication, and we’re glad that made a difference for you. We’re also happy to hear Felix is doing well on day two post-surgery. Wishing him a smooth and speedy recovery!
Fantastic experience: I cannot praise Blue Pearl enough. The staff, clinicians, and doctors are phenomenal. I base this on 3 separate emergency situations where I took my cat(Emme) to Blue Pearl(North) over the past few years. They have never hesitated to take my numerous calls and when I was told I would get a callback I did everytime in a timely manner. I would not hesitate in recommending them. They are nothing short of phenomenal.
Fantastic experience: Many thanks to all involved in my mom’s Standard poodle Elizabeth’s care. A special thank you to Drs Colon and Esteban. Your caring and compassionate care went above and beyond. On a Scale of 1 to 5 you deserve a 10!
Fantastic experience: The wonderful Vets and Vet Techs saved Georgie's life! The coordination between the animal poison control people and Blue Pearl was outstanding--They were ready for me within 90 seconds of showing up with my poisoned pup! She got great care and I felt like the folks taking care of her for 2 days treated her as best they could. The discharge process was less than ideal but hopefully that was not business as usual.
Fantastic experience: You get what you pay for, which is an amazing medical team. They have saved our dogs lives each time we had to go there. They have wonderful communication and are very upfront about treatment options, estimated prices and are very compassionate. The actual vets there are amazing. It’s an emergency vet so the prices are high but in the event you need to use them, I wouldn’t go anywhere else.
Fantastic experience: We selected Blue Pearl network based on a vet referral and decided to use the Pittsburgh facility for an amputation for my Great Dane, diagnosed with bone cancer. Overall, I was very impressed and very satisfied with the service that they provided for my dog - and would recommend them if you want exceptional care, keeping in mind: exceptional care does not come reasonably priced. They went slightly over their estimated max amount. They do have a huge staff (you might see at least 3 different people during the course of your visit - all with specific roles) - and that costs money, I'm sure. The receptionists were satisfactory - but the vet/nurses/assistants were very friendly, very understanding and accommodating - especially with my schedule - since I was coming in from 300 miles away. They took the time to explain all of the procedures; I never felt rushed or that I was inconveniencing them. The surgery was second to none - I have never seen such a clean amputation on such a large animal as was done for my dog. If not for the missing leg, you could hardly tell anything was done! We followed the post op procedures, and she was back to her happy self in less than a week. Since the hospital was almost 2 hours away from where I was staying, I was allowed to use a local vet for her post-op exam and they were also very impressed with the surgery! It's been less than 2 months since her surgery, and she is doing everything she did prior - except this time, without pain in her leg.
Fantastic experience: We took our 7 yo Heeler for further ophthalmology tests after noticing rapid vision loss. The staff and doctors were polite, knowledgeable and sensitive to our concerns. Joy was so reassuring and thorough when doing the initial intake. She also did everything in her power to calm our sweet girl in a stressful environment by petting her gently and even kissing the top of her head. You can tell that Joy genuinely cares. Dr. Gornik was thorough with the initial exam and recommended further testing, but didn’t push it. We were very impressed with a busy animal hospital that took their time to help us understand what was going on with our dog, ensuring that we made an informed decision. We opted for further testing and are glad we did. We have a plan for the road ahead and know that things will be different for our girl from now on, and we are certain that we made the right decision by choosing to go to Blue Pearl.
Negative experience: We took our cat to this veterinary hospital because ours near us was to busy to see the cat after hours We got there at 1130 got check in vitals done on cat worker stated not to busy it should not be long just wait in waiting room . An hour goes by a man comes in with a cat says Cheatlake vets said go there just like they told us they took his car right in we still are waiting, a woman comes in with a dog it seems fine I think I heard them say she is a rescue person goes back still we sit so I nicely go up now it is about 115 am I say we have been waiting since 1130 when is it our turn girl says let me look she says vet had paper in back that is not what I ask how much longer she said it should not be much longer so I said ok finally about 145 am they came got us and took her in to find out why she was bleeding from her month which they never did . We should not have been skipped over for them to do nothing and it was $284 and that was not blood work , X-ray , nothing but vitals and vet to say I don’t know what caused this. Everyone was nice , place was clean Vet was nice. Just don’t skip people . Felt it was unorganized when it came to who gets seen and when and if you don’t fix anything on animal you should not charge so much .
Fantastic experience: Everyone at Blue Pearl North was exceptional! Without them our girl would certainly not made it - professional- caring - knowledgeable- ours was a emergency situation for a gallbladder rupture and we couldn’t be more thankful for this group of compassionate talented individuals from the front desk to the surgeons, Dr’s , technicians and phone staff ❤️
Fantastic experience: Excellent, personal care. Staff truly cares for their patients. Our sweet girl loves seeing her friends on appointment days. Treatment options are explained clearly and in layman terms. Answer calls quickly and address any and all concerns. We have been very happy with the oncology team at Blue Pearl.
Fantastic experience: Brought my Senior Cat named Jewel in with difficulty breathing. Staff were quick to help and very friendly. Jewel is doing much better as of now and purred more than I’ve ever heard the very next day. I recommends these people as they are definitely out to do their best, have genuine care and look out for you the best they can.
Fantastic experience: Dr MacKillop is the best! He gives all options available for your pet and truly understands and is very compassionate. If you need a neurologist for your pet, Dr Mac Killop is your doctor.. Very experienced!
Fantastic experience: I can’t express how grateful we are for the excellent care our boy Ping received at Blue Pearl where he was admitted with diabetes and pancreatitis. He was so very sick but with the excellent care he received he turned the corner overnight and was able to come home on meds we could administer. Thank you, Blue Pearl!
Fantastic experience: I cannot be more thankful for the emergency team. From the first phone call through discharge everyone was fantastic. A special shout out to Delaney at the front desk and Dr. Tyler Rothka for providing the most wonderful support and experience during a difficult time. Although the diagnosis was not the answer we wanted for Dozer, the support they offered me exceeded expectations. Thank you both for being such wonderful people and support.
Positive experience: Received excellent care for my German Shepherd who had to have an emergency splenectomy, and unfortunately found to have hemangiosarcoma. Now getting Chemo at Blue Pearl. The surgeon, oncologist and staff were great. 4 stars and not 5 because of the expense which will be ongoing with chemo.
Fantastic experience: Every person working at this facility was very kind and professional. Although they were very busy, they still took time to explain everything clearly to me about my the treatment plan for my cats emergency. I have been to this facility before and if there is a pet emergency in the future I will be back. They are top notch here.
Fantastic experience: I had very good experience with this veterinary team. Everyone was kind, patient, and truly attentive to me and my pet’s needs. They took the time to explain everything clearly, treated my pet with real compassion, and made the whole visit feel calm and reassuring. It’s clear they genuinely care about both animals and their humans. I highly recommend them.
Thank you so much for sharing your experience with us! We’re truly grateful for your kind words. Our team works hard to provide compassionate, clear, and supportive care to every pet and family who walks through our doors, and it means a lot to hear that this was reflected in your visit.
We’re glad we could help make the experience calm and reassuring for both you and your pet. Thank you for the recommendation — it’s one of the greatest compliments we can receive.
We wish you and your pet all the best, and we’re always here if you need us!
Negative experience: Very disappointed. Five years ago I brought one of our dogs to ER, Dr Payne worked on Doogie. He listened to what was wrong. Dr Payne treated him and Doogie is still with us. Unfortunately Dr Payne retired and from my service, that day, showed me a different outlook of your care. That day, that Dr, to me, not only a conveyor line, but loss of confidence. I spent $1600 to find out everything that wasn't wrong, but not what was wrong. He didn't listen to me. Two days later I took Jaxxs to our vet and Dr Elliott prescribed meds and today, Jaxxs is slowly rebounding. I will never go back to pearl as your quality of care is lacking. You diffently are corporate mindset. The bottom line. $$$ Sad
Hi there,
Thank you for taking the time to share your experience. We’re truly sorry to hear that your recent visit didn’t reflect the level of attentive, compassionate care you received in the past, and that we strive to provide every day. Jaxxs’ well‑being is incredibly important to us, and we’re relieved to hear he is now improving under your primary veterinarian’s care.
We understand how frustrating it is to leave without clear answers, especially when you know your pet best and don’t feel heard. That is not the experience we want for any family who comes to us in a moment of worry or urgency. Your feedback has been shared with our leadership and medical teams so we can continue to improve communication, diagnostic clarity, and overall client support.
We’d be grateful for the opportunity to learn more about your visit and address your concerns directly. If you’re open to it, please reach out to us at your convenience so we can discuss what happened and how we can do better moving forward.
We sincerely wish you and Jaxxs all the best.
Fantastic experience: I cannot say enough good things about the care we have received at this hospital. Over the years we have had orthopedic injuries, terminal cancer, and more recently our 5 year old Golden Retriever had a recurrence of Mast Cell Cancer. The staff has always treated our dogs with the best care! We saw Dr. Urie and her staff recently and she is the absolute best! Very knowledgeable and she took as much time as needed to explain the disease and our treatment options. I would recommend this pet hospital.
Fantastic experience: Greatest vets! Very compassionate, knowledgeable and responsive. Our cat sustained an injury that is often fatal and they responded quickly and expertly to lead him to recovery. We strongly recommend the Camp Horne Rd facility near Pittsburgh for emergency care.
Fantastic experience: I've had to go to the Opthamology department here many times in the last 6 months to get my year old cat's entropion surgery & eye herpes/ulcers dealt with. Every time they have been extremely quick, caring, and made me feel like I'm in amazing hands. The surgery team too was always so sweet to my baby and called to check in after both surgeries. Highly recommend this hospital and this team <3
Fantastic experience: Dr. Dodge is five stars. All around. The kindness and empathy we received was top notch. Changed our whole perspective on Blue Pearl. Will be back if we ever need anything ♥️
Fantastic experience: We brought our 12-week-old kitten to BluePearl with what turned out to be panleukopenia. Our initial wait to be seen was relatively short for a veterinary ER. The vet broke the news to us in a very sensitive manner and walked us through our options and their associated costs. We had our kitten admitted to the hospital for intensive care. She was given a blood transfusion, monoclonal antibodies, and a high dose of antibiotics and steroids as well as comfort and care. We received regular updates from the vet, who answered all of our questions as her status continued to change. While the bill was high, BluePearl found some financial assistance for us that made it manageable. Their professionalism and expertise saved our kitten's life, and we are so deeply grateful. She has since made a full recovery.
Negative experience: called ahead because my dog needs emergency surgery, i asked if they could do it today and was told yes, i told them i have a limit of $5,000 and they told me that’s ok. i drove an hour to be told not only did they not have a surgeon in but that the cost would be $7-9,000. the receptionists have no idea what they are doing and just costed my dog precious hours. the lady who saw my dog though was very real and straight forward and i did appreciate that
Fantastic experience: Our cat was looked at promptly and taken care of. The payment was reasonable for an emergency visit.
Fantastic experience: We brought my dog in at 9pm for suspected mold ingestion with sudden onset of tremors and breathing changes. The staff prioritized our triage and they were able to start an infusion in a timely manner which greatly enhanced his recovery time and positive outcomes. The dr explained everything in a clear and understandable manner and patiently answered questions. The staff was transparent with our options, outlining pros and cons, what her suggestion was and estimated costs so there were no surprises. We were kept in contact as to when he completed treatment and had him back home in about 4½ hours. Thank you!
Fantastic experience: The best pet hospital in Pittsburgh - top notch specialty care for my pooches! Everyone is so kind and helpful.
Fantastic experience: I was very pleased with the care my dog received from Blue Pirl. Great communication, staff was professional and very thorough and patient with me during initial consult and throughout my dog's stay in the hospital. Pricing was as expected for her emergency care and specialty services. Shes doing remarkably well and happy to be home with her beagle sister!
Fantastic experience: Our experience with Dr Sepesy and team is always superb. We always feel cared about and that they truly care about our furbaby. Dr Sepesy treats you like family and gives the absolute best care!
Fantastic experience: My dog passed away unexpectedly and I couldn't have brought him to a better place. I called ahead and they had a gurney waiting for him. Everyone I interacted with was very kind and understanding. They had a private room for grieving parents, offered me several chances to see him, guided me through my options, pamphlets on dealing with death, and I could leave through the back door. We had never been patients there before and I am happy we were able to be seen for the final time with such care and empathy for both of us.
Fantastic experience: This place runs like an oil machine lathered up with WD 40 and butter. Very smooth and fast emergency care. Always in constant contact with you with various forms of communication. Calls, text, and emails. When they say they will call they do and when they say a time, it’s very close to their time that was stated. My dog had an infected uterus that required emergent surgery. They had a full check and ultrasound done with various results within an hour, and were already working on surgery measures and payment plans too. They were nice enough to provide a list of other treatment centers that could possibly do the surgery cheaper. The various places we called who did it for cheaper, agreed that BLUE was more expensive, but was the best place to be. You pay for what you get. They provide a payment plan called care credit with various options. We got the one where we pay off in a year with no interest. It took mins to apply and get ready. The initial estimate was 5 to 8,000 dollars for my girl’s surgery. In the end, it was about 6,300 and they reimbursed us the initial amount we were approved for. This was everything the meds, the surgery, the overnight stay, the fluids, the ultrasounds, the follow up appts, all of it, and honestly yes it’s a lot of money, but it could be worse, and I appreciated their accuracy on the price up front and was pleased with the ending price being on the lower side of their estimate. Plus, for the level of care-that price was worth it all day long. They treated us and my dog with love, respect, and empathy. After we got things settled, I had the full confidence that not only would she be fine, but she was loved and getting excellent care. I am a surgical nurse and their professionalism gave me peace that they knew what they were doing. Yes, I work with humans, but it’s all the same ideas and concepts, and they were on point ! Very knowledgeable, informative, organized, and patient. Seriously, outstanding! I cannot thank you enough for saving my Luna. My family is forever grateful for what you do and did.
Fantastic experience: This is the best and most knowledgeable vet service for my GSD who has melanoma. The oncologist, Dr. Newman is an expert and uses a wholistic approach. Staff is pleasant and helpful. The facility is immaculate. I trust them completely.
Fantastic experience: This is my second experience using Blue Pearl Pet Hospital - Pittsburgh North and is was a 5 star experience again. My dog was worked up by our local veterinarian for neurologic dysfunction that got progressively worse despite treatment. We went to Blue Pearl through emergency and were transferred to neurology the next day for an MRI and additional diagnostics. Although the prognosis is not good, the professionalism, care, and kindness showed by the ER and Neurology team made the experience less stressful for Cody and our family. The reception staff, technicians, and doctors I interacted with (shoutout Dr. McKillop) were happy to be there, empathetic, and efficient in their approach to care and cost. Although visiting a specialty hospital is expensive, I feel like I got the expertise and responsiveness I was paid for.
Fantastic experience: Could not have asked for a better experience. Dr. Stuart was so kind and compassionate while delivering news that was heartbreaking to our family. Grateful for people like her that treat family and their pets so well.
Fantastic experience: We are just at the beginning of our journey with the oncology department, having just started a treatment protocol for our golden retriever with lymphoma. But so far, I am really impressed and grateful for how knowledgeable and professional. Everyone is at blue Pearl, not to mention very loving towards my sweet boy. He has been seeing the doctors in the ophthalmology department for a couple of They are wonderful also. I can’t say enough good about blue pearl, and the staff there. I will add that treatment is expensive, but it is in line with what excellent veterinarian care costs everywhere. So you get what you pay for.
Fantastic experience: We took our dog in to the emergency room after consistent bloody diarrhea and a sudden change to full bright red blood. The care we received was incredible. During the long stay, the staff brought a blanket for our dog to be more comfortable and kept us as up to date as possible. We were allowed to stay in an exam room to help keep the stress down for our dog during an unpleasant time for all of us. The diagnosis was very bad. The people involved were thorough and didn't leave us hanging. They offered a path forward and I can't thank Doctor Maczuzak enough for the way she walked us through everything, and the caring and friendly nature of the rest of the staff. It was not a good day for us, and they did everything they could to lighten the burden.
Fantastic experience: The level of care I receives at this hospital is top tier hands down. I had to bring my 4 yr old Lab in after an attack from a neighbors dog and they were very gentle and explained everything every step of the way. I hate that I was there as a result of an emergency but I am so glad and thankful for BluePearl and all the help they provide
Fantastic experience: We had a very good experience with Surgeon, Dr. Anderson. Our dog head two kind of scary things going on and he took the time to explain both of them and they tell us his views and to be truthful about the possibilities. He was very kind, very kind to the dog too. The way he spoke we could tell that he was up to speed with the latest Research on some of the things we needed to talk about. The intern accompanying him, Dr. BRczynski, Was very nice and interested. The hospital was able to do some sonogram an x-ray work right away, which was a relief so we didn’t have to bring him back Of course, all of this is very expensive. We do have pet insurance so we’ll see what that does. But veterinary care is expensive right now. All of the staff was nice as well. We have surgery scheduled for later in the month. We have full confidence that we made the right decision in going to this Hospital as recommended by our vet. And we have full faith in Dr. Anderson as our surgeon choice. We had heard good things about him.
Fantastic experience: Blue Pearl Pet hospital is the only place we would take our pets for expert emergency and surgical care! Everyone on the Emergency side and the Surgery side is exceptional and super caring and comforting! Surgeon Dr. Ally James is tremendous! Her expertise is immediately evident and her compassion for her patients made us feel so much at ease during a scary and stressful time. We wouldn’t take our furry loved ones anywhere else!
Fantastic experience: Brought our dog, Nikko, for a follow up. He has a scar on his right eye along with dry eye. Dr. Bagley put him on a regime of 2 different eye drops. In 3 months, Dr. saw noticeable improvement. Dr and staff are super nice and knowledgeable. Thank you!
Negative experience: Update: we don't have the $1,400 they asked for over the phone we just showed up at the facility to pick up our dog who is in the same condition if not worse than when we dropped him off and they are now wanting $1900 and no scans were ever done. This staff is out of their mind and nobody here seems to communicate. I deeply regret wasting my dogs precious time here This place is a scam. They quoted us $1,000 for our dog having seizures. Drove 3 hours there and had him emitted into the hospital. Went to check out and our bill was already at $2,500 which didn't include any scans or testing just medication and I'm assuming the hospitalization fee. Fast forward to the next day and they want another $1,400 before even doing the scans and want to keep him another night. The staff also talks down to you besides the one very nice lady at the counter. We're now stuck 3 hours away with a seizing dog, no answers, and no money. Don't bother coming here unless you're rich and have a lot of time to waste...
Fantastic experience: My dog had 3 visits to vet and they recommended eye specialist. Has appointment for the next week . Took her to blue pearl in monroeville as she was head banging that morning as issue worsening. Urgent Care Dr Palumbo able to get Urgent visit that day with specialist at Camp Horne north location. Very attentive to my dog at North location. Explained issues and fees up front. So appreciative she was seen sooner. Seeing improvement .
Fantastic experience: Blue Pearl is fantastic, They answered all my questions and Pendle and I were treated great. I would highly reccomend them without reservation. A special thank-you for talking us from being coimpletely lost to getting us there,
Fantastic experience: Bentley, 14yo, saw the cardiologist Dr. Anderson for valvular heart disease ( he is a Cavalier and this is often genetically a frequent condition)and Dr. Urie, an oncologist, but Bentley sees her for hepatic biliary cystic disease, she also has helped to manage his inflammatory bowel disease. Both vets are outstanding, very personable, extremely knowledgeable, answer all of my questions and I usually have many! I always feel they are giving me the latest up to date medical care for my pup and consider his quality of life and treatment plan and consider my input.
Fantastic experience: My dog is very very anxious at the vet office. The staff was so kind to my dog and to me. I had to make the decision to remove my dogs eye. Dr Gornik is amazing!! I felt so comfortable leaving Piper in her care. I can not speak highly enough about Pipers vet tech. Wow!! She was top notch. She explained everything so thoroughly and she handled my scared anxious dog as if she were her own dog. Sadly I cannot remember her name... she really made my day alot easier. She is far and away the best tech I ever have had an encounter with. Her pts and their owners are blessed to have her.
Fantastic experience: I see internal medicine every year due to my dog’s Cushings disease. They always treat my dog like he is the cutest dog in the world. They are very thorough and upfront with pricing. They make it easy to use my insurance. Everyone there is wonderful.
Fantastic experience: My Boston Terrier is currently undergoing chemo for TCC. Every single person at Blue Pearl has been kind, patient and gentle with my dog and me. Cannot recommend them enough. The vets are top-notch and the staff are caring and friendly!!!
Fantastic experience: We went in with our dog three weeks ago. They were able to see him fairly quickly and did initial testing. That led to the next step of an MRI and that provided clues into our dog's issues. They treated him with care and provided an excellent explanation of what is happening. We are on the road to recovery now. Excellent service and knowledge from the staff.
Fantastic experience: Dr. Urie and the staff at Blue Pearl are incredible. They love my girl Joy and treat her like a queen. Dr. True is very thorough and communicates everything in a clear manner. Thanks to Dr. Urie’s care, Joy is cancer free at this time.
Fantastic experience: Emergency visit ! They treated my dog and family very well.it was so busy but they always had time to explain what was going on. Everyone was very kind and skilled.above and beyond what I've ever expected. They should introduce that business model to human hospitals! Wish I would have had pet insurance.
Fantastic experience: Staff was so kind and compassionate. The vet explained everything in detail and also provided me with a detailed explanation of my cat's issue and needs. I highly recommend Blue Pearl.
Fantastic experience: My puppy had an emergency and needed to have vomiting induced. Everyone was amazing and my puppy was quickly taken back. The most unexpected part was the cost, which was very fair. I was super stressed out when I arrived but by the time I left, I was so relieved and very impressed with service and price. Hopefully I won't need to use them again but it makes me feel better to know they are there!
Fantastic experience: Kind staff, well-informed, lovely bedside manner, professional. This is the second emergency we've had with our pets in 6 years. The first one dire where action was taken immediately with my darling dog. Yesterday, was a in-depth consult for a sick kitten. I don't feel "sold" on tests, upfront staff are kind, clinical professionals take the time to listen and offer solutions. No one really *wants* to be in this situation but if you find yourself there, this facility and the professionals working there make offer comfort.
Fantastic experience: Best care from doctors and nurses......expensive but I was updated extensively, stabilized my dog with active seizures, so through, my girl is deaf and they were amazing, kind, patient, caring and loved on her. I was comforted in how they loved and cared for her and everything was explained to me slowly and educated me with such understanding and compassion.
Fantastic experience: My beautiful kitty was taken care of by the oncology team. They are very caring for both pets and owners. As a human nurse, I know perhaps too much about medicine but feel as if I'm flying blind for my fur baby. They are SO knowledgeable I know I care relax and trust them completely with her and all my questions. Definitely recommend.
Thank you for sharing your heartfelt experience with our oncology team. We deeply appreciate your trust in our knowledge and care, especially given your background as a nurse. It means a great deal to us that we could provide the support and reassurance you needed during your kitty’s treatment. Our team is committed to caring for both pets and their owners with compassion and expertise.
We are grateful for your recommendation and remain here to support you and your fur baby every step of the way.
Fantastic experience: What a wonderful organization. I had to travel two hours to get to Blue Pearl, it was well worth it. Time was not a factor when they examined my pet, explained everything to me in detail and answered all of my questions. I would highly recommend Blue Pearl.
Positive experience: Very quick in a crisis situation; the only clinic around that could provide the specialized services we needed at that time. The vets monitoring our dog called frequently with updates, which I appreciated given how stressful the situation was. Despite the gravity of it all, they did their best to answer my numerous questions clearly. However, there were some issues with coordination. After I had already arranged payment, a staff member came in and I was asked about paying (I believe for the tiers of cremation packages?) multiple times… IN the exam room right after putting my boy down, still saying final goodbyes. It took my father stepping out to speak with staff before being given privacy. And then in the following days, I discovered we’d been double-charged for cremation services. I wonder if this was due a staff miscommunication, but it did add unnecessary frustration during an already difficult time. The clinical care was good, but the administrative experience really should have been handled with more sensitivity.
Thank you for taking the time to share your experience with us during such a difficult moment. We are grateful for your recognition of our clinical team’s prompt response and dedication to keeping you informed throughout your dog’s care. Providing clear communication and compassionate support in crisis situations is always our priority.
We sincerely apologize for the issues you encountered with coordination and payment, especially during such an emotional time. Your feedback is invaluable, and we will review our administrative processes to ensure greater sensitivity and clarity for families in the future. We regret any additional frustration this caused and appreciate your patience and understanding.
Thank you again for your trust in our clinic and for sharing your concerns. We are committed to improving every aspect of our service and supporting pet owners with both excellent medical care and respectful, thoughtful administration.
Fantastic experience: My wife and I took our 14 year old dog Harley who wasn’t able to walk to see neurosurgeon Dr MacKillop at Blue Pearl Pittsburgh North who treated her previously for disk surgery. Dr MacKillop was extremely compassionate after his examination in discussing end of life option with us. He went further since he knew us & our dog to come in on his day off to perform the euthanasia. We will always appreciate the kindness of the doctor & hospital staff on this sad day of our lives.
Fantastic experience: Awesome caring people & doctors. Ollie, My male cat had a blockage in his urethra. Being that was life threatening, they worked with me the best they could to help him with the money I had. These people deserve a reward. May they be blessed for their efforts and empathy.
Negative experience: We took our Bichon dog here on recommendation of Wexford Vet Hospital since they did not have an appointment for a dog going through heart failure. My dog went through heart failure and was in oxygen tank and some tests ,iv and meds for 48 hours. They gave us an estimate of $3000-$6000 cost but charged us $7800. There was no surgery. Just 48 hours on oxygen. I asked for a pill popper that they had for less than $1 so I can easily give him meds right way when I reach home but they repeatedly told us to buy from Amazon. 48 hours, oxygen, tests, NO SURGERY $7800
Fantastic experience: We were referred to Blue Pearl by our vet for a severe back issue with our 5 year old dog. All of the people at Blue Pearl who were involved were absolutely top notch pros. Emergency surgery was done the same day. Communication to us from Surgeon, Doctor, and techs was perfect. Our pet came home two days after surgery and is making good progress in her recovery. A sincere thank you to all who took care of our Lola.
Fantastic experience: Bluepearl north has exceeded my expectations. The front desk staff, every single vet tech, Lisa the social worker, Dr. Troudt in emergency, Dr. Sepesy, & Dr. Smith in internal medicine were nothing short of absolutely amazing. Not only did they take amazing care of my dog while she was hospitalized for four days but they also made sure that I was okay throughout the process. Every single person that I encountered had such compassion, care, and took the extra time to explain things and ensure me that my dog was getting the best care possible. I wish I could put into words just how thankful I am to have gotten these wonderful doctors. Pictured is Luna after getting home from her long hospital stay. Yes, it is more expensive than other places but the quality care makes it worth while.
Fantastic experience: Dr Erfourth and the staff at the location in Pgh are awesome. We came from out of state to see them. We have been seeing him for a few years and have the most confidence in them. Our pup is thriving after surviving cancer twice and going thru 1 year of chemo. Keep up the good work. We highly recommend this facility and the wonderful staff.
Fantastic experience: Great facility and super staff. The vet was caring and extremely competent. I felt very at ease taking my injured dog there for treatment. Highly recommend.
Fantastic experience: We took our 13yo Standard Poodle in for a respiratory issue. Their team was incredibly quick to evaluate her and start oxygen and ultimately diagnose her with aspiration pneumonia. She had to stay overnight for 2 days for oxygen and treatment and during that time the staff and doctors communicated with us regularly and allowed us to come in to visit with her. I felt very good about the care she received and the instructions they provided for at home care.
Fantastic experience: Anytime you have to go to an ER for your pet, it’s stressful, however, the Vet and the workers were very helpful to ease our stress. Can’t say it was a good time, but we were met with very knowledgeable people.
Fantastic experience: We were referred to BluePearl by our veterinarian to the ophthalmologist for our Shih Tzu who has cataracts and possibly glaucoma. Dr. Finn and staff have been very kind throughout the appointments. He explains everything in a way that we understand and we our on a managing plan to make it more comfortable for our Barkley. I would recommend BluePearl.
Fantastic experience: I highly recommend the doctors and surgeons at BluePearl Pet Hospital. So far I've had to take two of my dogs to BluePearl with very serious injuries and they did a very good job of fixing them up. I have to drive more than two hours to get there but it's worth the drive to make sure my pets are properly taken care of. I'd love to be able to say I hope I never see any of the doctors again, but if one of my dogs needs surgery in the future I won't hesitate to take them there.
Fantastic experience: Took my sick furry nugget in on a Sunday evening as their health was declining rapidly. Staff were wonderful at every step along the way. The vet was able to quickly identify the issue after bloodwork & we were on our way with meds to help. I was never pressured into unnecessary treatment or scans as a precautionary measure. They were straight to the point for what the issue to be and recommendation to make my nugget healthy again. Such wonderful care & respect to others coming in with their pets also. Our family appreciates and commends each person at the facility for all they do!!
Fantastic experience: If you’re going to take your animals to a BluePearl, take them to this one and not the South. Our Mara wouldn’t be here today if it wasn’t for BluePearl North, the care the staff gives is exceptional, they’re very informative and willing to work within your budget, and are some of the most caring and compassionate people my wife and I have met. When no one knew what was wrong with our Mara, they did all they could to find and fix her problems so she could come home to us again. If any of our other girls would get sick and would need care, we’ll be taking them here for sure.
Negative experience: My dog had a surgery a few years ago here and all went fine. It was 2021 so I wasn’t able to enter the clinic and everything was done over the phone. My dog needs a similar surgery in the other leg and my current vet recommended I go back where he got the first surgery. I no longer live near by but I scheduled an appointment because I trust them. I had to reschedule due to work conflicts but always called and was never a no show. For the last one, there was a winter storm and any Pennsylvanian knows not to drive on the turnpike through Somerset in the snow. I asked to reschedule and they said to find another place. I had already paid the fee and had been very apologetic. I’m literally trying to pay these people thousands of dollars to fix my poor dogs knee. The last surgery was around 6k.
Fantastic experience: Our vet recommended us to take our dachshund to Blue Pearl because he was suffering from IVDD and needed to see a neurologist. It was a bit of a drive for us but was ultimately worth it. We were very impressed with how kind and compassionate everyone was. They really knew what they were doing. We have been to other ER's that were nothing like this one. I would recommend them to anyone needing emergency care for their pet.
Fantastic experience: I had an excellent experience at BluePearl Animal Hospital for our surgery consultation with Dr. Doorninck. From the moment I arrived, the staff was kind, professional, and compassionate, which immediately put me at ease. Dr. Doorninck was incredibly thorough and took the time to explain everything clearly, answering all of my questions without rushing. I felt heard, supported, and confident in the recommendations provided. It was clear that our pet’s comfort and well-being were the top priority. I'm very grateful for the level of care, communication, and expertise I received and would highly recommend BluePearl—and Dr. Doorninck in particular—to anyone needing specialized veterinary care.
Thank you so much for taking the time to share your experience with us. We’re delighted to hear that your surgery consultation with Dr. Doornink was such a positive one. Providing compassionate, thorough, and respectful care is very important to our team, and we’re glad that you felt at ease from the moment you arrived.
Dr. Doornink takes great pride in ensuring pet parents feel heard, informed, and confident in the care plan for their pets, so your kind words truly mean a lot. We’re grateful for your trust in our team and appreciate your recommendation. Please don’t hesitate to reach out if we can support you and your pet in the future—we’re always here to help.
Negative experience: I have several reasons for the one-star review. After the vet gave me my pets prognosis it took over an hour for my discharge papers to printed up so I could pay and leave. My pet had soiled the carrier by that time. I feel there's no reason to wait an hour to be discharged. It wasn't busy at that time, bare parking lot. Also, when calling in with follow up questions, just dial zero otherwise you'll be un hold until you get hung up on. Dialing zero will get you the front desk. You'll get an attitude like you're bothering them or asking something not within your right to know, but you'll get the answer you need. In addition, if they recommend any meds, don't let them fill them there. The cost is outrageous and WAY over the cost of filling the Rx at a pharmacy or thru an on-line source. Thy won't tell you that.
Fantastic experience: I had to go in, sadly, for humane euthanasia for my beloved dog. All of the staff were extremely kind as well as professional and efficient. I’ve also been there for ER and specialty services and have been consistently pleased. Highly recommend.
Fantastic experience: Took my cat there on New Year’s Eve because he had a urinary obstruction. When I got there I did not have to wait long for him to be seen. They were very clear with me on the problem, the solution and the financial end of things. They had to keep him for 48 hours and kept in contact with me for updates on his progress. When he was ready to go home, they were very informative on how to prevent this issue from returning and sent me home with plenty of literature and resources for improving his health. I will always recommend them for any emergencies. I am very happy with how he and I were treated through what was otherwise a very bad situation. Keep up the great work!
Positive experience: We went for help on Dec 31st with our Saint Pyrenees, who ended up with Open Pyrometra. To do surgery they wanted $6000 to $8000. We are not rich by no mmeans. We love our family friend. But the cost is enough to to add more stress already on top of stress. The one good thing is they cut a break on visiting cost. I get that Veterinarian's have costs as well. Being in the area we were is for super rich people. Not the middle hardworking people who live paycheck to paycheck. Makes you feel so helpless to help a fur family friend that can't speak for themselves. I guess that Veterinarian's code is all about that big buck not the animal.
Fantastic experience: We traveled quite a distance in a snow storm to Blue Pearl to see the oncology team and it was so worth it. The staff was exceptional. Friendly and compassionate. 100% recommend to anyone seeking a veterinary group.
Fantastic experience: You guys are amazing. Loving and passionate about the care of our dog Stormy. The staff are very friendly and knowledgeable and truly caring.
Negative experience: I brought my 7 y/o otherwise healthy Yorkie here because she needed an ultrasound. Dixie was in and out within 15 minutes, but then we sat in the waiting room for another almost 5 hours for a doctor to come talk to us. Dixie began throwing up water and there was no sense of urgency to help her. Finally, we were seen by a Doctor Who told us that she had a severe case of pancreatitis, and that she recommended we keep her there for the entire weekend which would cost us between $3k-$6k. We were shocked not expecting that amount of money. This extremely rude doctor literally told us “well if you don’t have the money to pay for this, then you should consider putting her down.” To our knowledge she wasn’t sick enough to be put down!! To tell people to euthanize their pet if you suspect they can’t afford the care is absolutely disgusting. I called my regular veterinarian and explained what was going on, had all of her records sent over and followed their advice-We admitted Dixie for the day and were told that we could pick her up after 10 PM. Dixie was out of it when we brought her home -she began pacing around trying to hide somewhere (come to find out now that she was most likely coming down off of fentanyl). We took Dixie back within an hour of her being there and they admitted her for the weekend. They refused to refund us the medication we had taken home with us and not even used. They don’t allow you to talk to a doctor until after 10 pm- Every time I called we were told she was stable but not out of the woods yet or that she was doing okay and resting. By Sunday morning my mom called BP asking what Dixie’s treatment plan was and they told her that they were just keeping her comfortable because they were told money was an issue (not true). My mom told them that was unacceptable and to actually provide her treatment and find out what was going on with her. We were told she needed a GI tube and other ultrasounds done (nothing was found). We asked if we could visit her and we were only given 5 minutes. I then spoke with her doctor of the day and she told us she had a 70% chance of survival but her pancreas was still angry. After this conversation We were hoping we would be able to take her home within a day or two but we were wrong. Come Monday they tell us that she had a cyst on her pancreas that had ruptured causing fluid buildup and that she would need put down because she wouldn’t make it through a surgery. We rushed to blue Pearl to pick her up so that our vet that we trust could let her go peacefully. They would not release her to us until we signed off on the $7,800 bill she had after her stay. I took a look at the itemized list of care and want to know why she had multiple ultrasounds and ultrasound checks done and the last ultrasound that was looked at by a specialist finally showed a cyst?? Who missed that on Friday when she had her first round of imaging done? Instead of telling us to put her down if we couldn’t afford them, they should have spent longer than 2 minutes looking at an ultrasound and this could have possibly been caught before her health got worse. What also is heartbreaking is that we were told there was a 70% chance of survival and given false hope that she would make it every time we talked with someone. Now we are stuck trying to pay down a care credit card bill they urged us to open before the 32% interest kicks in I am extremely disappointed in BP, the first doctor we met with on day 1 had ZERO bedside manor, she made us feel like terrible dog parents and had no empathy whatsoever for what we were going through and being told. This woman needs training on how to be compassionate. This was single handedly the most traumatic experience of my life- losing Dixie was gut wrenching but the lack of compassion and care from some of the doctors at this place made it even worse. I will be taking my pets to a different ER god forbid they need it in the future. Do better blue pearl.
Fantastic experience: Our sweet bulldog died unexpectedly at home. We didnt know what to do. We called Blue Pearl and they were compassionate and knowledgeable. They told us to bring him in, and they let us say goodbye to him with respect and compassion. They set up his after care and today we received his cremains. They were in a beautiful wooden box with his name engraved. A paw print impression was included along with his fur and a heartfelt note. Thank you so much for helping us and exceeding our expectations in this awful time.
We are deeply sorry for your loss and are honored that you trusted us during such a difficult time. It means so much to know that our team could provide compassion, guidance, and support while saying goodbye to your sweet bulldog. We’re grateful to have been able to help you honor him with care and thoughtfulness. Thank you for sharing your experience and for letting us be part of your pup’s final moments.
Fantastic experience: Internal Dr. Adam Rudinski and his staff did a wonderful job taking care of my family member Whiskers. He explained everything really well and they put her through every test possible to come to a resolution hopefully , to help with her digestive issue? The follow-up appointment a few weeks later ended up having some more follow-up testing. We hope our Whiskers is on to a fun and healthy life. She's already perked up and is running up and down the steps like she used to.Yay! Thank you all at Blue Pearl.✌️❤️ Whiskers ,Kathy, EJ and Jorden
Fantastic experience: My Bull Terrier consumed 1lb of raisins. Go him down there they. They ran bloodwork ASAP and gave advice and the options I had. The staff was wonderful, the price was good considering that they are open 24hrs 7 days a week. I came in the following day to run bloodwork once again to see if there was a trend but all good. I highly recommend this place for anyone with a pet that deeds emergency attention.
Positive experience: Initially this place was good. Once they recieved the 8k for surgery they treated us like 2nd rate citizens. 3 weeks post ops they didnt feel it was necessary to change bandage. 4th week check up, the doctor came out and informed us that our dog has huge sores and needed to be contained with bandage removed so the sores can heal. Absolutely pathetic after care. Overall the experience her left me angry.
Fantastic experience: Dr. Urie, with BluePearl North Hills, was phenomenal at our first visit. She provided us with all of the information, in layman's terms, so we could make the perfect decision for our beloved pet, Ziggy. Dr. Urie also developed a plan for Ziggy's future treatment that we can implement easily and afford. All of the BluePearl staff members were kind, efficient, knowledgeable, and helpful. We look forward to working with Dr. Urie and her staff in the near future.
Fantastic experience: We take our beautiful pup here for neurology as she is epileptic. Dr. Scoda and her team are just absolutely amazing at what they do. They really care for our girl and are always so excited to see her and make sure she is comfortable. And our girl LOVES to go see them- although she was told on our last visit she needs to be on a diet she wasn’t thrilled about that part. But, the love and care they put forth shines through. I don’t know what we would do without them.
Fantastic experience: I have been trying for 6 months to find out what was wrong with my baby and her tummy. We have gone through blood work, six weeks of B12 shots, several food changes, an ultrasound, and finally, we had our endoscope at blue pearl. The staff was wonderful and made me feel very comfortable. Doctor smith was very personable and explained everything that she was going to do and what would happen after the test was done as far as timing of results and where we would go after we got the results of the biopsy. They kept me notified when they were going to start the procedure and they let me know when it was finished. Dr. Smith personally talked to me on the phone to let me know some of the specifics that she found but would need the biopsy to confirm. I have heard so many different stories about blue pearl, but I can honestly say that my interaction with them was fantastic. We still have some work to do with my baby girl and her tummy, but it seems like she is turning a corner and we finally have an answer and hopefully she can live a long and healthy life going forward. Thank you.Blue pearl for taking great care of my baby girl.
Fantastic experience: First and foremost, we went to BluePearl to have our German Shephard's torn ACL surgically repaired because of Dr. Pardoe. He had performed the same surgery twice on a German Shephard we owned over 10 years ago with fantastic results. Were so pleased that he was still practicing. He is absolutely the best veterinary surgeon in Pittsburgh! In addition, the staff was empathetic and helped us through the process both pre and post surgery. They took the time to review all the post surgery instructions with us, not just hand us a piece of paper. Thank you Dr Pardoe and staff for giving our pet a chance to remain active in these last years of his life.
Fantastic experience: We are extremely grateful for the care Katerina received at BluePearl Pet Hospital. Katerina had a foreign body in her small intestine. We feel very fortunate that Dr. Jonathan Anderson was able to complete a successful surgery to save her. The hospital was very busy, but the staff and medical team were very professional. I was impressed with the communication of the medical team. I spoke with several different doctors over the course of Katerina's hospital stay- each one was familiar with katerina's case and with me. Katerina has recovered well and we feel very fortunate to have her back in good health 1st photo- immediately post op 2nd/3rd photos- 2 weeks post op
Fantastic experience: The most caring staff, most knowledgeable doctors, best experience I’ve had at a vet & vet hospital. Explained everything about Bella’s eye surgery to us, really helped to put us more at ease about it. Bella came through like a champ & the doctors work was perfect. I’m so glad I went forward with her cataract surgery. She can see again, thanks to everyone at Blue Pearl.
Fantastic experience: This was our first time visiting Blue Pearl. The doctor was very thorough during the consultation. Dr. Adam Rudinsky took his time explaining everything and multiple options to decrease the financial burden for the care of our pet, Marlee. Dr. Rudinsky answered all of our questions and concerns. We were very happy with the care that Marlee received. We would definitely recommend Blue Pearl for anyone to take their fur babies too.
Fantastic experience: I would give more than 5 stars if I could! I took my 5yo male mixed dog to another specialty pet hospital several days ago for an ultrasound. He wasn't presenting as sick, but his urinalysis results weren't perfect after a few rounds of antibiotics and testing. So. Further testing was in order. Long story short, I took him for the test to a specialty hospital (regrettably, not Blue Pearl) and was turned over to their ER doctor. That Dr misdiagnosed the results and concluded that his bladder was stretched to 8 times normal size and had a large mass close to his urethra. Conclusion: humane thing to do was to euthanize him. I was devastated. I took him to Blue Pearl for their opinion, thinking maybe a medication was available or maybe surgically whittle this mass away. Anything. And oh my! Surprise surprise! Blue Pearl's radiologist found that it wasn't his bladder at all! It was one kidney grossly enlarged! Surgery next day and my sweet dog is recovering! Second opinion ALWAYS! If I had listened to the first hospital, I may have put him down. I guess this wasn't so short but I hope you stuck with this story and don't fall for bad news without double checking. Update - I should mention that this is the Camp Horne Rd, Pittsburgh location. Update 12/17/25: Results of the removed kidney showed cancer (no surprise) and BP Oncology recommended chemo to ensure no rogue cancer cells were roaming. Chemo is in pill form taken at home with regular visits to BP for monitoring. My dog, Toby, is doing well in every aspect including the treatment. None of this is cheap, but I doubt any good vet specialty hospital is. The staff at Blue Pearl is exceptional and caring.
Thank you so much for sharing your story and trusting us with your dog’s care. We’re incredibly glad that our team could provide the correct diagnosis and treatment, and it’s wonderful to hear that your sweet dog is now recovering. Your experience is such a powerful reminder of the importance of second opinions, and we’re honored that you chose BluePearl to be there for your pet when it mattered most. We’ll be sure to share your kind words with our Camp Horne Road team—they’ll be thrilled to hear how much of a difference they made.
Fantastic experience: Not the place you want to end up on. Saturday morning, but everyone eas extremely kind, thoughtful, and professional. The care my dog received was great. We will definitely come back for any emergency vet needs.
Negative experience: Took our 9yr old cat (Sammy) in overnight Friday into Saturday because he was having numerous seizures. He has a heart murmur so we thought it might be connected. The estimate was $3-5,000 and we paid the low amount as a down payment. We were told “no news is good news and if something happens we’ll call you” and we left him in their care Saturday morning at 6AM. We did get an update Saturday afternoon and it was great news. Sunday we hadn’t heard anything so we called only to find out that Saturday evening at 10PM he was given 4 times his dosage of medication and poison control was consulted and we were instantly upset but kept our kool because our little boy’s life depended on their care. He was kept at the facility until Monday to see the Cardiologist and we were told Sammy could come home. We went to get him arriving at 8PM and someone behind the desk acknowledged us and who we were there to get. We waited patiently until 9:15PM when I asked the desk if there was a problem with Sammy. I was told they were still trying to contact “that technician” (whatever that means, there was 30 of them running around). About 10 minutes later a technician took us back and went over the medication instructions and precautions. When she was done she asked if we had any other questions or concerns and I explained that it did not set very well that Sammy was overdosed to the point of calling poison control and we weren’t notified and I asked that a supervisor contact me. Then came THE BILL!!! The original total was $7,273.48 ! We were floored to say the least. The real slap in the face was they “discounted” our total $539 for “compassionate care”……..ok, so Sammy’s life is worth $539! What an INSULT!!!! You guys are in the pet care field because you supposedly love animals yet you can justify charging someone these kinds of fees for helping an animal that is in medical distress…….how dare you!!!! The unfortunate thing is that they weren’t done there, they wanted to schedule having someone come to our home and put some sort of halter on him for monitoring and scheduling neurological visits. This is absolute insanity and you guys are preying on people’s love for their animals. This is EXACTLY why you see news stories about people who have animas that are in poor health…..because they can’t afford it!!!! I spect your moral compass and values going forward.
Fantastic experience: Our German Shepherd Maizie Mae was recently seen by Surgery(Dr. Doornink), Cardiology and Radiology for diagnostics for an unknown mass in her chest. Upon further exam they discovered a small mass in an anal sac. Surgery was done successfully on her anal sac and unfortunatly pathology wa positive for carcinoma. She will follow with Oncology in the coming weeks. Excellent communication from the Surgery team, and ICU team. It was very beneficial to have all the departments available in the same location without having to have multiple appointments. Having everything streamlined internally was equally beneficial to help decrease already high levels of stress, not only for us humans but for our Shepherd. Very well organized, scheduling was easy and they accept Care Credit. Staff were all very supportive and understanding during a very stressful situation. This is Maizie's 4th surgery done at Blue Pearl, and we are very confident in the surgery department and their expertise in so many areas.
Hi, Pam.
We’re so glad Maizie Mae received thorough, coordinated care from our Surgery, Cardiology, Radiology, and ICU teams. While we’re sorry to hear about her diagnosis, it means a great deal to know that our communication, organization, and team approach helped ease some of the stress for both your family and Maizie during such a challenging time. Thank you for your continued trust in our surgical team and for allowing us to care for her through each step — we’ll be thinking of you both as she continues with Oncology.
Fantastic experience: My dog Rowan broke his foot in the beginning of October. We were treated so kindly and compassionately and still continue to have cheerful and professional care. Rowan actually loves going into the building. The care has been remarkable; it is definitely not cheap, but it is excellent care, and worth every penny.
Fantastic experience: I was able to get Reyna in for surgery to repair a CCL tear fairly quickly. The pre-op visit with the doctor helped me understand what needed to happen and the post-op visit clearly laid out what I need to do to help Reyna recover over the next few months. The staff was very friendly, kind and caring. The final price came within $14 of the original estimate. I highly recommend Blue Pearl if you need a place to whom you can entrust your pet’s welfare.
Positive experience: This hospital literally saved our dog’s life. The staff here are amazing and so kind. We will forever be grateful to them for saving our sweet girl and for the wonderful care they gave her during the scariest time of our lives. If there was one negative, it would be the lack of communication. I do think though that it’s probably due to the high demand of patients and lack of staffing. Overall, life saving care. Thank you all so much for the life saving work you do and amazing care you provide. I can’t thank you all enough; you are the reason our dog is still alive today.
Fantastic experience: I take my rescue Weimaraner for vaccine treatments and checkups twice a year. It's reassuring that he acts happy about going into the building, and into the treatment area. Everyone is always nice, from the people on the phone, to the front desk, the vet techs, and the vets. They clearly care about our pets, and us because we love those pets.
