Experiencia fantástica: I love the hospital but it takes way to long for the pharmacy to fill prescriptions. Dr. Ashlie Hancock and her staff are amazing!

Experiencia negativa: There are multiple reasons I would never recommend this place to anyone. Do not bring your dogs here, they are unorganized, rude, and only care about the money. First few times I had brought him there they “lost his records” even though they were scanned in from the moment I brought my puppy to them. He had gotten his booster vaccine and it wasn’t until months later when I was looking at his records that I noticed it wasn’t listed, goes to show they “forgot to charge me” and are now requesting almost $100 for the vaccine THEY forgot to charge for months later. If I didn’t need to take him somewhere for his records to be looked at they never would have caught that. His most recent visit was due to a concern with redness in his eyes and I just wanted to ensure it was nothing more than allergies. Dr.Redding does not care what so ever, he was dismissive and painted my dog to be aggressive. The tech that was with him was also rude and rushed herself onto my dog who was clearly nervous. You’re telling me you have never experienced an anxious dog at a vet. no treats, no letting him feel her out just immediately shoved a thermometer in his behind. For some reason they can only examine him in the back without me being in the room and returns in a muzzle extremely stressed. I am completely turned off with this practice. I left and took him to urgent vet. they were so kind and patient and my dog did so great and ended up wanting to follow them out of the room and play because they ensured he was comfortable unlike this joke of a practice. take notes Hickory Vet, patience goes a long way. My dog is not aggressive.

Experiencia fantástica: We have just started going to Hickory Veterinary Hospital with our pups. One is just a year old and the other two 11 and 13 years old. We saw Dr. Redding. He took care of our 1 year old and our 11 year old pup so far. He is probably the best Vet we have ever dealt with, with the exception of one other at another hospital. Dr. Redding and his staff impressed us with their handling of our pups and his expertise in treating them. He takes time with you explaining his decisions and takes time with the pups. He doesn't do things that aren't necessary to drive up cost. Very professional. We had been looking for a good vet for a while now. We actually travel 23 miles to bring our pups here. That should speak volumes of the Dr's and Staff. Hope to have a long vet relationship with the Dr and staff here. Take you pups there; you won't be disappointed.

Experiencia negativa: I do NOT recommend Hickory Veternary Hospital in Chesapeake! Wyatt has always been itchy during spring. This past February I took him in as I noticed an increase in itchy and hair loss. He did have some weight loss however there was no major concern but to keep an eye on it per the doctor. We made an another visit two months later as my concerns continue and the same words were spoken to me again. In June I took him in and a large portion of his hair was gone and he was down a significant amount of weight. I asked for a blood panel to which they did not find anything and told me yet again it was just allergies. Today he saw a different vet today back home in WA. He is down 13lbs since March and much of his fur. They did a simple skin test and found bacteria. He is on medication to help get better. I am very thankful this was finally found by Vet at home and we can get him better. However, I am beyond disappointed in Hickory Veterinary hospital who did not take the time to truly listen to my concerns and take steps to help my dog. Will never go back!

Experiencia fantástica: Dr. Hancock is hands down the most caring and genuinely amazing Veterinarian out there. She truly cares about your pet and is honest & trustworthy. A wonderful person to trust with your furry friend. After bringing our pets to her for years, she moved to another clinic in a different city. We saw a few other veterinarians and just never had the same great experience or trustworthy feeling as we had with her. Therefore we decided it is well worth the extra drive to come see her! We’re thankful to have found her :) The rest of the front desk and staff were all extremely nice as well. I appreciated the assistant who helped with Dr. Hancock (I didn’t get her name). Very sweet with our cats and not pushy at all with any services. They have some great people working here.

Experiencia fantástica: I was a little disappointed that Dr.A left and upon scheduling my visit and no one advised me. But the new doctor absolutely amazing! The knowledge that he bestowed upon me on how to take care of my fur-baby’s needs, time and care they took with me and my fur baby has always been top-notch. My fur baby gets protective when I’m with him so they took their time with him, We had a great visit. I felt very comfortable with the entire visit and definitely recommend them.

From treating our pesky siamese who got an abcess to seeing 2 of our 3 dogs today!! I couldn't be happier and look forward to getting our cat and smallest pup in next month to see Dr. A.and Dr. H

Experiencia positiva: We appreciate the business responding to our review. I truly believe their push to only use their online pharmacy in this day and age could potentially be their down fall. Chewy has always been fantastic, speedy and has always taken accountability if ever an issue was to occur and promptly. For the good and well being of some of our medicated pets we are now having to decided to weigh our options to continue to go through the hoops of obtaining and mailing paper scripts or do we switch vets. Time will ultimately tell, this was certainly not on our bingo card this year. Otherwise more times than not its a good experience here.. Updating my review after about a year of us using them. Recent development is that they sadly will no longer allow clients to use Chewy or any other online pharmacy that isn't theirs. This is a major inconvenience because when we had to use their online pharmacy last time it took twice as long as it ever has with Chewy. It should be about the animals and not pushing for clients to use their online pharmacy over the "competition". This has become a major issue for us and our animals. Aside from that issue with the vet clinic Dr. Hancock is amazing and so kind. She listens.

Experiencia negativa: Do NOT bring scared or nervous dogs here. We trusted them with our dog, only to be forced into untrained, terrifying roles: sedating him ourselves and pulling his breathing tube as he woke—tasks trained staff should handle. Zero prior communication about any of this. Staff whispered very negative comments, hid behind doors, refused to speak to him—creating a hostile, fear-filled environment. If your dog is large, anxious, or simply needs respect and preparation, look elsewhere.

Experiencia negativa: I’m editing my review for Hickory veterinary service due to the fact they let my baby boy of only four years old slip through the cracks and he lost his life. He woke up one morning and I can tell he wasn’t feeling well I took him to the vet Dr. Redding Who ran a battery of tests on him bringing my bill up too close to $1000. When I asked him about his feline leukemia that he himself had diagnosed him when he was a kitten he looks surprised. And lo and behold when he did that one simple test it showed that his feline leukemia had accelerated to the point that he was on his deathbed. After he was diagnosed a month or so later they told me he didn’t have it anymore. Now I don’t know if that test was true or not but I lost my little baby of four years old and now I have a bill of $1000 for no good reason whatsoever. Dr. Redding especially I believe is only interested in racking up your bill and not taking care of your pet. Therefore I do not recommend this veterinary service one little bit. Dr. Hancock the other Vet there is a good doctor I believe but I still would never use that practice again. They cost me my cats life And he was very precious to me. Nothing could be seen but the Dr. Prescribed a medicine that finally gave my dog some relief. Thank You! The technitions are helpful and and show caring attitudes. I appreciate the follow up calls to check on my baby after my dog has been treated!

Experiencia negativa: We like Dr Hancock very much but this practice has very poor business practices. Dentals are crazy expensive as it is and since getting “new equipment” etc the price skyrocketed however we still scheduled. They called yesterday apologizing that the price has changed again, yes another increase three days before our appointment. Our trust in this vet has been completely lost and so has our business. How dishonorable of you to not honor the price given.

Experiencia fantástica: Got us in quickly. Both Dr. Redding and Dr. Hancock are very knowledgeable, and both have giant breed experience, which is a plus when you own great danes! Dr. Redding spends time with you to make sure you understand what's going on with your pet and understands working gently with fear reactive dogs. Highly recommend this office!

She was very personable and spent a lot of time examining and discussing the issues our dog has been experiencing, answering our questions, and coming up with a new treatment plan for our dog. The staff was incredibly kind and compassionate, making both me and my dog feel welcomed and cared for. During the visit, my dog received a steroid injection but unfortunately had an adverse reaction. The veterinary team responded swiftly and professionally, administering Benadryl and another medication to counteract the reaction. Their quick action and attentive care ensured my dog’s safety and comfort. I truly appreciate the team's dedication, compassion, and professionalism. Their prompt response to an unexpected situation gave me confidence in their expertise. Experiencia positiva: The front desk girls were great! I made an appointment for the next day no problem. The vet tech came and asked all great questions and concerns. Then a guy came in. He did not introduce himself just kept typing away on computer. Didn’t ask me anything or look my dog. He left and vet tech came back and explained medication with me for my dog. So needless to say the guy/man who came in was not professional at all.

We don't have to wait to be seen for weeks if there is a problem with our one of our fur babies. Dr. Redding is our primary vet, and been with us through 2 losses. We have been to other vets in the area, and by far Hickory is the best in our experience/opinion.

Experiencia fantástica: Hickory Vet has always been there to help my senior cat Cyclone with whatever he needs. General checkups or even surgeries. This past Monday he had dental cleaning and some teeth had to be extracted. They made sure my baby was happy and healthy before sending him home. I would recommend Hickory Vet to anyone.

Experiencia fantástica: Took our shepherd Moxie to have a cyst on her ankle looked at and a bad abrasion on her hip. Cyst was just fluid but Dr Redding pointed out the abrasion was from her licking and chewing there cuz she has arthritis and it was a painful area. I did not think of that. He cleaned it, shaved a spot and applied strong antibacterial ointment. She has pain meds now , heartworm test and heartworm meds, and a nail clip! Very pleased at the thoroughness of entire staff and how personable everyone is. They have been our vet since 2015 and we love them . Amending this review on5/14/25 to add all the praise we have for Dr Hancock, Dr A and Dr Redding and all the staff. We have been back several times and Dr A treated Lance for a seizure which was probably a heat stroke and he has had 2 eye issues that resulted in ophthalmologist visits and we had to put our 15 year old cat down during the past few years . Every time we needed them. Hickory Vets went above and beyond to treat our pets like they were theirs. Hands down the best people ever!!!

Experiencia negativa: When I first started bringing my pet Franklin here, it was absolutely amazing. Everyone was attentive to him and did an amazing job. However, the past few times I brought him by I felt like my concerns were dismissed. I realize that most of the time when I would bring him his symptoms were nebulous and intermittent, however, I was often dissuaded from doing more extensive testing to see what may have been going on with him. I also believe that this directly resulted in him not receiving needed treatment and why he passed away recently. I don't believe anyone there does not care about their patients. I just hope they will lend a little more credit to owners who notice something being off about their pets.

They were running late due to an emergency. They kept us updated on what was going on . This was a previous review. Today we saw doctor Handcock. We had a great visit and all is well. Misty has white coat syndrome so panics at first . Dr Handcock was fabulous and gently calmed her down . May 6th Another visit to Hickory veterinary hospital. Misty saw the tec for heart worm test and nail trim . They are so kind and caring. Misty has serious white coat syndrome and panics . They take care of her so gently and lovingly We saw Dr Hancock and her tec on the 6th of February. They were both so kind and friendly. Misty is getting over her white coat syndrome which is hard as she is a great Pyrenees. It's such a joy to go to a caring practice that is about the health of the patient rather than the bottom line. Dr Hancock is well beloved by her patients parents as they trust her to do her upmost for the pets . This was a previous post also . Misty's last visit was the 6th June 2024. Misty went in for rabies shots and heartworm test, fecal test and check up plus nails trimmed Being a great Pyrenees Misty suffers from white coat syndrome and gets upset when we walk in the veterinary office. They are very gentle and kind to her and with great patience successfully complete the the visit nails, temperature reading, blood work and all . She loves them really and is very stoic while they work on her . I have been with this clinic since getting Misty . We followed Dr Hancock here when she moved from our old clinic. She had treated our last 2 previous dogs. The staff at Hickory are friendly,very competent and compassionate. I rate them all very highly.

Experiencia fantástica: First time ever bringing my chicken in. The staff was so wonderful and the Vet was beyond helpful. They made me feel like I was actually doing a great job raising chickens. I left with so much knowledge to be able to apply to all my backyard chickens. Wonderful veterinary and I will be bringing my dogs also.

They do not treat their customers as dollar signs or numbers. They treat you like family! They know our names and genuinely mean it when they ask how you are doing. I brought in my 14 year-old dachshund that just had a first seizure and they were extremely kind to her and it’s been the time if they needed to explain to me what could happen in the future with her and put her on medication if she needed it I definitely would recommend this veterinary clinic, especially to people who come from out of the area, who do not have a vet!

Lucy would have died had it not been for them. I have NEVER been more impressed with any Veterinary clinic or hospital as I was with them. I live in Oceanview and will happily drive to them every time!!!! Dr. Redding is awesome and I take my kids to him for whatever reason. I highly recommend them to anyone looking for a veterinarian for their pets.

Experiencia negativa: Awful dental experience here with our dog. He had several teeth extracted and the veterinarian left the roots intact without letting us know. This led to infection which led to pain, suffering and ultimately oral surgery from a specialist for our 3 year old Labrador retriever. All of this could have been prevented if they had done an x-Ray prior to extraction or at least let us know that they were unable to remove the roots. I hope others can learn from our experience. Do not go to a vet that does extractions without doing x-rays. The oral surgeon that took care of the root extractions was shocked and told us they had never seen this before. Our dog suffered because the crowns were cut off, but the roots left intact. X-rays are the standard of care when doing extractions. To make matters worse, Hickory Veterinary Hospital denied responsibility for the whole situation. Totally unprofessional and unacceptable.

Experiencia fantástica: We have entrusted Hickory with all our "fur babies" going back at least 25 years. They've taken great care of them all and we couldn't be happier with the care they've provided.

Experiencia fantástica: I’m really thankful for the service this hospital provided us, one my Aussies is an aggressive chewer and basically eats whatever he can find reason why was having symptoms of a blockage. We call and got an appointment the same day, instead of rushing us into getting surgery doctor Hancock gave us alternatives and was so friendly. He is back to normal running, eating and playing. I would recommend this hospital if you’re looking for a honest diagnosis and treatment.

The waiting area is spacious so I could easily keep my energetic puppy away from a nervous dog. The vet was wonderful with my puppy. She answered all of my questions and provided helpful advice for treating his itchy paws. I’m very pleased with our experience.

Experiencia fantástica: We could not be more grateful for the compassionate care given by Dr. Hancock, the techs and all of the support staff at Hickory Veterinary Hospital. We came to this place after our very sick 12-year-old “puppy,” Chloë, had been hospitalized for 7 days. Unlike her previous vet, here at Hickory, Dr. Hancock not only cared for Chloë but was wonderful in her way of instructing us on how to best care for her at home in a way we could understand. Dr. Hancock gave us information and confidence to keep Chloë on a path to being the bright, energetic dog she had previously been. After a few weeks, Chloë bounced back and started becoming our playful, silly pup again, and then some! Because of Dr. Hancock’s care, advice and continuing communication, we know what to do to help keep her this way. In fact, the neighbors call Chloë “the miracle dog” because of the transformation they have witnessed since her hospitalization. As I said, we could not be more grateful!

One needed to be sent to a specialist and they were wonderful with transferring all information so there were no delays. Dr. Redding is outstanding and always takes his time to talk to me about any concerns.

Started reading reviews and called Hickory. They were able to squeeze us in to see Dr. Redding....who must be a cat whisperer, because my girl was so comfortable with him. I never worry about my bird when i bring him here, and the staff is very nice and very knowledgeable (even though my bird is NOT the easiest to work with). The were able make an appointment the next day and examine her for the Certification, plus updated vaccinations since she was 3 months overdue. In and out in know time and an affordable cost. Hickory Veterinary Hospital was able to get us in in a few hours. All the staff were so friendly. They were very transparent with pricing. They didn’t push any necessary testing or medication on us. Experiencia fantástica: 7 years ago I brought Chloe, my little pom there as they were closing. We had,what I thought, a medical emergency. Never have my wife and i been there before. Dr. Redding took us right away and let us know it would be fine and made us feel better about situation. Fast-forward 7 years. We have moved and still drive an hour to see him and his amazing staff. Every time we walk in first thing we hear "CHLOEEEEEEE or GROOOONK(meatball) our other fur baby. The whole team there is amazing and can't thank them enough for everything they have done for Chloe and Gronk(meatball)

Experiencia fantástica: The lobby was very clean and the receptionist were organized. The checkin process was very quick and easy. The vet tech was receptive and gave me details as to how things were going to go. The vet was very informative and reassuring. At no time did I feel that I was just another client. I was made to feel that my dog was being cared for in the best way. Even though this is not where I normally.take my dog, it would be if it were closer to where I live.

Experiencia fantástica: I've been taking my cat's to Hickory Vet for about 6 years now. I love the service I recieve and the vets are very personable and knowledgeable. Dr. Hancock did my girl's teeth extraction and cleaning less than a year ago and she is so much better now. I never feel pressured into any services and they're up front about possible costs with services needed. I did look around when initially looking for a vet years ago and their prices were reasonable and reviews were good. I def would recommend them to anyone looking for a vet. They also got me in quickly and have longer hours now on certain days.

Experiencia fantástica: The Labrador is a very living but nervous and scared dog. The techs and vet with Hickory Veterinary Hospital were so patient and kind. They quickly diagnosed her issue and put her on tue road to recovery. This is our second dog we have had with them and I am thankful I found them.

Experiencia fantástica: Was charged an exorbitant amount of money for an antibiotic prescription ($207) that CVS would have charged $54. Never was the cost of the drug discussed with us during our visit, and obviously the option to get it filled outside the clinic was never offered. When I called the practice manager to give my "feedback" on the matter, it was simply cast aside in the spirit of "we will look into it and adjust our price going forward if we need to." Perhaps repeat business or referrals are not a priority to this business. We live 45 minutes away and drive by half a dozen other vets to bring our Great Dane to this practice. **Update: Our concerns were heard by the practice and alleviated to our satisfaction. The outcome was more than fair. To clarify, we have always been very pleased with the care that our Great Dane has received from the doctor and staff. We will continue to bring her to them for her care.**

I dread going to the vet around holidays and weekends as I just moved from Colorado and I have never been able to get in when my pet is sick except for going to the pet emergency room. Hickory Veterinary Hospital was able to see my dog within 90 minutes of calling on a holiday weekend with five star treatment. Veterinarian and staff were exceptional.
