Experiencia fantástica: We took our newly adopted 6 year old Scottish terriers for their first visit. We were so pleased with the professionals working there. Dr. Seremet was so thorough and informative. She provided so much information that I must have looked overwhelmed. She said that she would send her notes to our email so we can review everything we discussed. We got home and within a half hour, we received her notes. We used to go to North Boros. When you went there it was always very busy with lots of animals waiting in the waiting area. We were the only ones in the waiting room. The cost was very reasonable. I will be taking my son's dog, Australian cattle dog, there on Tuesday.

Experiencia fantástica: We took our dog Pierre (Pit Bull Mix) here for the first time to establish them as his primary vet care. From the time we first contacted the office, up until the day of our first examination appointment, the entire staff was very friendly, efficient and thorough. We will definitely be taking Pierre and any future pets to this location for veterinary needs. They even called us the next morning as follow up to see how Pierre was doing after his visit, which just goes above & beyond the level of care expected.

Experiencia positiva: The vets, techs, and front office staff here are wonderful. Their website makes it easy to schedule and they’ll work with you for emergency appointments if possible. Every person there is great and their waiting room is nicely laid out so my cats are always separated from any dogs that might also be there. Their prices are very competitive for the services they offer. The only reason they’re not getting 5 stars is because they use an online pharmacy out of New Jersey for medications. If they prescribe a medication, you order online through a branded portal for their practice, but Wedgewood Pharmacy in NJ is responsible for preparing and shipping the medications. I had no idea what pharmacy was shipping the medications until afterward, and assumed such a great vet practice would work with a great pharmacy. Not the case. This pharmacy created a nightmare situation that not only I had to deal with, but also the vet practice. Through all of this, I came to learn there is a local compounding pharmacy, but they’re not the online provider. I should have gotten a paper prescription and ordered through Chewy or the local pharmacy, because despite paying for 1 day shipping and the medication being ready to ship in a day, the pharmacy shipped the medication ground instead of air, creating a 5 day delay. The pharmacy then lied about this, saying there was a delay in transit with UPS. UPS easily confirmed to me there was no delay and the package was on time for the shipping method used. Wedgewood’s recent reviews are almost entirely 1 and 2 stars for this exact reason and had I known up front this was the pharmacy, a quick Google search would have informed me to order elsewhere for a critically needed medication. They’re taking money for one day shipping but not actually shipping one day. The vet’s office staff did what they could to find a short term substitute, but they need to find a better partner for their online pharmacy especially since negative experiences with their branded pharmacy will result in negative customer experience with this aspect of care through their practice.

Their staff is super kind and pleasant, the office is clean and new, and the vets are helpful and almost always on time to our appointments (if only human doctors could handle that!). Costs are reasonable and our older dog especially loves going, which is a really strange thing to say about going to the vet. No complaints!

Experiencia negativa: Edit #2, 2 years later: Avalon had told us the day of his surgery that they got the results back and everything was fine. I never saw the actual write-up, I just took their word that it was fine, but this week I finally reached back out to get the record just to have it. It turns out that he was NOT fine, and the cardiologist recommended an echo and to get his proBNP levels. I'm disappointed all over again. Also, their records show they received the results of the testing 5 days before his surgery, even though they were claiming they still didn't have them the morning of. Editing to address their comment that they can't find me in the system: I go by my married name on here, they have me in their system by my maiden name. I was actively using their vet services for 3 years. Avalon Veterinary Hospital is on the higher end of pricing for vets I've been to. This cost premium was, in my opinion, worth the convenience of them being walking distance to their customers. However, they relocated last year to be a 20 minute drive, and their prices remained the same. The service is acceptable but not fantastic. They sent my cats bloodwork for the wrong test and made me come back in to do it again, thankfully before they moved 20 minutes away. Then they convinced me that my kitten had a heart murmur that the vet I had originally taken him to hadn't noted and really emphasized that it was a risk to perform his neutering without doing further testing for the cause of the heart murmur. They said he could have a medical emergency and pass away depending on what the issue was. I paid around $600 for his testing, about 3 weeks before his surgery was scheduled. They didn't call me with the results. I had to call them the week before (on a Wednesday, surgery scheduled for Monday) to see what was going on. They said the lab "lost" the x-rays and they had to resend and would get results back to me the next day. 2 days later and I still hadn't heard back and had to call again. Sounded like they hadn't yet sent the x-rays in. I was assured that they would get the x-rays over and get me results that day or Saturday. Saturday's business hours came and went and I still hadn't heard. I had no idea if I was able to bring my cat in for surgery on Monday or not. Monday morning came and they still didn't have the results, and a voicemail they left that morning stated they sent the x-rays on SATURDAY, even though I had called about it on Wednesday and it had been 3 weeks at that point since they were supposed to have originally sent the x-rays. Then the tech told me that there was no issue with performing the surgery without the results, as they were taking special steps regardless for the surgery because of the murmur, which immediately indicated to me that they had overemphasized the importance of the testing in order to get more money from me. I requested that the cost I had paid for the testing that wasn't completed to be applied to the neutering bill but was rejected. The only thing they offered me was to either reschedule until they get the results (which I doubted would happen at that point) or they would schedule his surgery last for the day to wait for the results and call me again if they didn't get them in time to decide what to do. I honestly don't even trust that the test results they got back were real. I lost faith in them, and am searching for a new vet. Also, they won't work with online pharmacies like Chewy, unless you do the one that they've partnered with on their website.

Experiencia fantástica: All the staff here are very friendly, and the waiting time isn’t long. Our dog has never shown any unusual reactions after getting shots and coming back home. It’s much better than those chain hospitals. The front desk staff in particular are very kind and friendly, and I feel completely comfortable leaving my dog in their care.

Experiencia fantástica: My corgi, Daphne, and I had a great 1st experience here! Dr. Gazda and Vet tech Sam were so kind and knowledgeable. The girls at the front desk were very sweet and greeted us right away. Glad we made the switch here—they were very honest about Daphne’s stress level for getting vaccines/bloodwork and prescribed us with something to take the edge off for future visits so she can be more comfortable.

Experiencia positiva: My family and I have been clients of this vet practice since we first moved here in 2012. Sadly since they moved locations, which I was initially excited about, the quality of care has changed for the worse. Beginning in January of last year we had to put our first dog we got in Pittsburgh down so emotions were already high. While I appreciate them getting us in same day, we just did not get the care we are used to with Avalon. They gave our dog the initial sedative and after a few minutes we were ready, we rang the bell like they told us to and took almost 10 minutes to get to the room to finish putting down our dog. We left feeling so put off by how we were treated I don’t know how else to describe it. We do have other dogs which I continued to take mine. My dog seemed weary of the vet and I was told I could bring her to have “happy visits” just call before hand. I did just that, told the lobby we were here for a “happy visit”. No staff interacted with her and I simply just left after a few minutes of standing there. Lastly and my final straw, we had a visit in June where I was concerned about possible allergies. Besides paying $340 for an exam, 3 vaccines and a fecal exam, the allergy concerns were entirely dismissed. Months went by with my dog constantly scratching, I was at my wits end. I finally made an appointment at North Boros and got the care my dog needed! One Cytopoint shot and my dogs itching has entirely stopped. Yes these issues may seem small to some but when it comes to the care of my animals, if I go an entire year of leaving the office unhappy, I will find somewhere that does make me and my animals happy. I do appreciate the well over a decade of experience I have had with them but I believe this practice is headed in the wrong direction.

Experiencia fantástica: Looking for a new vet? Stop now and make an appointment at Avalon. You can do it from an app (which is so much easier for me). From our first visit to every appointment since, the whole experience has been top-notch. Everyone I have encountered there has been phenomenal, and they carry an AAHA accreditation which proves their quality of care. If you’re looking for a hospital that will care for your pups (or cats maybe more I’m not sure ) like your own, Avalon is the place. The waiting room is always clean, and they have designated dog and cat areas. I’ve never waited too long to get into a room, either. As I said earlier, the care of our pups is unmatched. We went to another vet office previously where the answer was always to prescribe an antibiotic and prednisone; the vet was in the room for maybe five minutes and gone. At Avalon, we were able to get a diagnosis and a treatment plan that gave us peace of mind. The timing of the office visit is a perfect balance of strong communication and options for next steps without being overwhelming. The previous vet was a "you get what you pay for" situation. Avalon is the opposite, and we feel so grateful for the care they’ve provided. A massive thank you to everyone at Avalon for all that they do. Now stop reading reviews and make an appointment, you’ve found the best. Extra points: the staff is so awesome! For Valentine’s Day they had a kissing booth see pic below.

Experiencia negativa: December 2025 Update I previously had a good review for this Vet (see below) but my last experience there, in November 2025, was poor. I felt very rushed at the appointment, my concerns were not addressed and I was not informed of additional costs nor provided any quotes or asked if I was ok with the treatment plan before things were done. The doctor immediately tried to sell me on new products and services before any of the concerns I brought to that visit were addressed. I had to ask multiple times about all the things I came in for and she was in a major rush to get out of the room. I also did not like that my dog was taken out of the room for vaccines or ear cleaning. I wasn't even asked, it was just done. After the visit, I followed-up with the practice manager, who listened to my concerns and said the lead Vet would be contacting me, but that never happened. I switched vets after this and was provided a much more relaxed and thorough visit elsewhere. I wish they would have made things right for me before switching. Previous Review They have seen my dog since she was a puppy. They have always been fantastic 100% of the time. The service is personable, I never feel rushed. Excellent care.

Experiencia fantástica: Best vet ever!!! I drive from Swissvale for my pup to be seen here because they go above and beyond. They respond SO fast over text, phone, email, whatever. They also always fit us in the schedule so fast. I rescued a Great Dane mix puppy and she’s soooo anxious. We’re working on it but at the vet?? She regresses and pancakes on the ground. 90 pounds, refuses to leave the lobby. The staff here are so patient and kind while I’m still working on this issue with my pup. Just the absolute best place. Particularly great with understanding large breeds. Look no further than Avalon vet!!

Experiencia fantástica: My dog Petey had not been feeling like himself for a few days. They had open appts that next day and the online scheduling process was super simple (super accommodating when you have a screaming toddler when you use the phone ). Petey is a very fiesty chihuahua and also deaf and blind in one eye. I was worried he’d be a bit of a problemo for everyone lol. Aside from being extremely patient, they treated Petey with such care and made sure I was also at ease. They gave me all of the info I needed in going forward with his condition and called the next day to check on him. The staff from the time we walked in to when we left (front desk, nurses, doctor etc) all amazing. We will deff be going back for Peteys routine care! Thank you

Experiencia fantástica: I am so happy to have found Avalon Veterinary Hospital to be a part of Phoenix's care. All of the staff members were so kind and accommodating. Phoenix gets a little bit nervous in new surroundings, but they did such an amazing job with making this experience comfortable for him. The office was so clean and I loved how they had a separate seating area for cat and dog owners. Experiencia fantástica: Truly love this vet. My family has taken our various dogs to Avalon since 1997. Since their move to McIntyre Square, the same level of care, compassion and common sense has followed. My parents take their current dog, and now that I have moved back to Pittsburgh, I drive out from the city to bring my dog, Betty, because I know she will be well taken care of. Prices are very reasonable, they are very up front and honest about any costs or suggested services. Just the best, I recommend them to all of my friends.

Most of our visits are with Dr. Gazda for acupuncture, and she is absolutely incredible — compassionate, patient, and so in tune with our dog’s needs. Samantha adores her, and we’ve seen such positive results from the treatments. We’ve also seen Dr. Neely for an issue with Samantha’s paw and had a great experience there as well — thorough, caring, and gentle. Everyone at Avalon goes out of their way to make both pets and owners feel comfortable and cared for. We’re so grateful to have such an exceptional team looking after Samantha. Highly recommend Avalon Veterinary Hospital!

Experiencia fantástica: Love Avalon Veterinary Hospital. Penny, my dog, gets great care here. Plus she loves the staff! Doctors are knowledgeable, thorough, love their patients and give great advice on how to keep my furry baby healthy & happy. The Vet techs & front office staff are wonderful with my pup. Besides general care, Penny has had same day surgery to clean her teeth & take off a cyst on her neck. I was kept informed and Penny had great experience. Cost of surgery was transparent. Hospital is kept clean and very well kept. Myself and my parents have been bring our pets here for at least 40 years. Yes staff and management has changed through the years. Current staff is great!! Website makes keeping records and making appointments easy & effortlessly. Highly recommended Avalon Vet!

Experiencia fantástica: Best vet and clinic I've ever had! First, the front desk is very responsive and they got me a price quote and an appointment quickly for my sick cat. Next, their office segregates cats and dogs, and they have plug-ins in the exam rooms emitting calming pheromones. Our tech Emily was very compassionate, kind and professional. Dr. McGowan is considered a credentialed feline specialist, though I am sure she's phenomenal with caring for any pet. She is very straightforward, read all the records I sent very thoroughly and was ready to examine, assess and recommend treatment. She and the tech did an ultrasound, collected urine and clipped nails in a very short time while being careful to keep Doja away from dogs in the back. The doc looked up the food brand I use given that Doja needs hypoallergenic food for skin allergies and found there's one that doubles as that plus urinary tract health (her current issue. So she proposed a plan in short order, gave me an Rx. This was all after 5 pm Friday. Saturday, I received three phone calls - one from the front desk checking on Doja, another from a tech already giving me a urinalysis result in brief, and although Dr. McGowan was the only vet on duty, she called also - got my voice mail, but gave me a thorough explanation of the urinalysis and why we're going to proceed how we are with two Rx's and follow-up. She is cautious but conservative with her approach. The doctor is also going to take the time to look at pics of where I have Doja's boxes inside the house and my house layout so she can make recommendations since Doja is picky about her box and is having issues with cystititis from stress. Lots of detail here, but I'm blown away by their responsiveness, professionalism and care! Especially if you have a cat, you'll never find better. I've never had a vet successfully collect urine from either of my cats - left me to try to do it. :( This doc is assertive and knows what she's doing.

Experiencia fantástica: We had a small emergency with our dog yesterday and took him to Avalon in McIntyre square, they were quick to take him in for an evaluation until the doctor could see him. Thankfully it was nothing serious and he is on the mend in less than 24 hours. Amazing staff and doctors, highly recommend ~ Thank you Avalon Veterinarian hospital.

Experiencia fantástica: I have had nothing but good experiences here. Both the vets and vet techs are compassionate, information, and explain things throughly throughout my visits. They have helped me with a difficult decision that no other vet or vet hospital was willing to help with in the past that will have me bringing my pet there life long. They understand the financial burden some vet visits can bring and have no problem giving me an itemized bill and explaining the cost or suggesting different less expensive routes if it is not a dire need for the pet. They have handled my cats and large dog with the care of an office full of animal lovers and not a company looking to make money off clients. As long as the current staff stays the way they are I see no reason to take my pets else where.

Experiencia negativa: I recently switched to Avalon Veterinary Hospital due to its convenient location. During my dog’s initial sick visit, I was charged a comprehensive exam fee of $89, which I found reasonable. However, they were unable to draw blood during this visit due to my dog not having received the necessary pre-medication (Trazodone, $13). I then scheduled a follow-up appointment and inquired with the front desk whether I would be charged another exam fee ($68) for the second visit. The receptionist confirmed that I would be, but I expressed concern, as I felt the bloodwork should have been included in the first exam. The front desk staff acknowledged my concern and reassured me that I would not be charged the additional fee after consulting with someone. Unfortunately, upon arriving for the follow-up visit, I was told that my dog might have ingested socks, and that further tests were necessary. The total charge for this second visit amounted to $977.79, including an antibiotic prescription for my dog. At the end of the visit, I was informed that the issue could be related to a tick bite and possibly Lyme disease (due to a past history of tick bites). However, the explanation was unclear, and I was told the antibiotic would likely resolve the issue. Fortunately, my dog did recover after one day of antibiotic, but my overall experience with Avalon Veterinary Hospital has been disappointing. While the pricing was transparent, I felt that unnecessary additional exams and charges were added without clear justification. This raised concerns about the professionalism and business practices at this facility.

Experiencia fantástica: Avalon Vet Hospital is very kind and accommodating of my anxious/reactive dog. The front desk staff help to make sure the lobby is clear of other dogs before we enter/exit. Dr. Neely definitely seems to understand anxious/reactive dogs and she is so patient and caring with my dog. It is apparent how much she loves animals and she takes into consideration their emotional state when planning/administering treatments. I am thankful to have found a vet that is such a good fit for us.

Experiencia negativa: I took my cat for an appointment and was told that all doctors are booked and only a new doc was available. Dr matthew stanga was nice but did not have proficient knowledge or skills in how to handle my cat because she is scared at the vet. When dicussing medications and what they needed to do, he was unclear and did not explain things thoroughly. He seems dismissive of the concerns I have until he finishes talking or he loses track. There was so much back and forth and confusion. Dr stanga told me to recheck with him in a few weeks, but I will definitely not be seeing him again. I was not happy about our visit!!!

Experiencia negativa: Avalon Veterinary Hospital was a trusted animal hospital when it was in Avalon. Unfortunately a corporation bought it out and moved the business. I continued to take my dog there and noticed substantial price increases but I did not have a problem with my dog’s care and that never was the issue. I recently went for my dog’s ear infection, the second in past 5 months. Again I didn’t have any problem with the care although the tech told me the visit would cost 177. I ended up paying 359 but they sent me home with the same medicine I already had from my previous visit. I made it clear that I did not want charged for the same medicine that I already had. To make a long story short, they in fact sent me home with the same medicine for a charge of 50 dollars. I called the following day and spoke with the business manager, Marin, who didn’t feel comfortable giving me her last name. She told me the conversation was recorded and she picked out a portion that she felt supported her case. In Pa you cannot record a conversation without both parties consent but that’s another issue. Marin was firm in her not refunding the medication bill because the tech used it to show me how to use it. In her opinion I should have recognized it was the same medicine I had at home and stopped the tech from showing me. It all boils down to this manager not wanting to satisfy a customer over 50 dollars and losing a customer who has been with them for years. Not a great business decision on their part but I guess she will be applauded by corporate for not losing that 50 bucks!

Experiencia fantástica: My cat had vomited in her carrier just before we arrived. The vet tech, Chelsea, took us into an examining room and helped me clean up my cat. The vet came in a short time later and proceeded with the exam. After the Wellness check, Dr Seremet recommended bloodwork (on the previous visit, another vet had recommended bloodwork but I was not in a financial position to have it done at that time). It turns out that my sweet little girl is showing signs of kidney failure. Dr Seremet not only explained next steps but emailed information to me. In the meantime, Chelsea was loving on my cat and keeping her calm. In addition, I was able to take my cat home in a clean cardboard carrier thanks to the kindness of the hospital. I have a clearer picture of how to help my cat going forward.

Experiencia fantástica: We were looking for a new vet and based on very good reaction to a call I had with them, set a first visit to Avalon for our cat to be be checked. Got there 20 minutes early just in case we needed to do any paperwork and were in a room in less than 5 minutes (15 minutes early than our appointment on a Saturday morning) with a very knowledgable vet tech and the vet was in shortly after. Very good vibes all around and will absolutely use Avalon in the future.

Experiencia fantástica: The whole staff here is absolutely wonderful! Kind, flexible, knowledgeable, and they love my cats :) we’ve been bringing our cats here for 4 years. Every single vet, tech, and receptionist has been a pleasure to work with whether it’s routine visits or more in-depth treatments. When we had to finally say goodbye to one of our fur babies, the staff were compassionate and so helpful when we had to schedule an emergency visit. More recently, Dr. McGowan in particular helped us so incredibly with our other senior kitty’s behavioral health, even analyzing our home layout and providing personalized recommendations for medications and supplements to help regulate our sweet old girl. She really went above and beyond! They absolutely care about your pets and are exceptionally easy to work with, even when things get tough. Could not be happier with this clinic.

Experiencia fantástica: We brought our 6 year old tuxedo cat, Estelle, to the vet on 5/30/25. She was having difficulty breathing. Dr Gazda and the technicians took great care of her, providing x-rays which revealed an enlarged heart & congestive heart failure. Estelle was doing some better last week after receiving her prescription of lasix to remove the excess fluid, however, she quickly became in distress again by Friday, June 6. Called the office and had her seen by Dr Gazda on Saturday. Unfortunately and with great sadness, Estelle did not live thru the day on Saturday. We appreciate the honest evaluation, concern and care that Dr Gazda, the technicians and reception staff showed to our family and to our much missed feline, Estelle. Thank you again.

Everyone was so kind to him and kind to me, and they get bonus points for being very transparent about costs of everything before taking him back to get all of the things done. Experiencia positiva: For years my family took pets to the “old” Avalon Veterinary Hospital when it was in Bellevue—I’m talking going back to the 70’s. When I moved back to the area recently, I found that they were now corporate owned and acting like corporate health care. I don’t fault any of the staff there individually. They just work there. I don’t like that we never see the same vet twice. I don’t like that the last time I was there the vet tech asked me about bloodwork before the doctor ever laid eyes on my pet. I don’t like the fact that they are so expensive, though I realize everything has gone up. I didn’t like the fact that until I showed up for the third visit in as many weeks that they failed to tell me all of the records had not been transferred from my old vet. REALLY? And I didn’t like the fact that after I had spent over $2000 there in the course of less than a month, they refused to give a complementary claw trim. C’mon. That’s the kind of thing which builds client loyalty and satisfaction. I honestly don’t know what I’m going to do. I may have to start driving 150 miles RT for routine care from my previous vet since if there’s a life threatening emergency I’d go to a local emergency clinic anyway.

Experiencia positiva: I have taken my personal cats to both the old and new location for over 25 years. I am fostering a cat rescued off the streets. She was very sick when found and needed all her teeth removed, her jaw wired and multiple medications for a bad URI. This was all done elsewhere at a vet that specializes in ferals and strays. I took Amelia to AVH today as her URI was lingering and to get her vaccinated and combo tested . When I received the bill estimate I asked if they had any sort of discount for Rescue or foster and was told no. I asked if they could at least cut her nails for free instead of the astounding cost of $35. The exact quote from the vet tech was” we expect to be paid for our services”. It made me sad that this practice appears not to give back to the community by helping those who are rescuing. But I guess that 1 minute nail trim would break the bank if they did not get their $35. .

My two huskies love the staff and aren't dramatic at all when going in, which says a lot to how well the staff treat them! 12/10 would recommend!

Experiencia negativa: A year before Bella passed, I took her in for a check up because she was having some trouble breathing. She got the green light that everything was okay and great health. For another year, she suffered with stuffy nose and a lot of sneezing. Nearly exactly a year later, Bella was basically on her way out. I wish I had chosen a different place. When we got there, they pulled her out of the crate and asked if they could do a bunch of testing before the physical exam. I was in a highly emotional state as this was for my companion of 13 years so I agreed. They took her back for X-rays and blood work so she had to be stabbed several times because she was anemic. And she was very scared. Turns out, she didn't need any testing really, as soon as the vet came and examined her, they told me she had cancer throughout her body. Then they hit us with the charges of all the testing, over 700$ total for tests that were unnecessary that put Bella through more turmoil and stress than she OR I needed. We had to get a credit card to pay for the services. There was no other option, we didn't have that kind of money. I got to hold her as they euthanized her. And then she was gone, but we were left with almost a grand in debt. No receipt either. I was so distraught I couldn't really think. I feel like they took advantage of my intense emotional state to squeeze every penny out of a desperate situation. It's been over a year now and I still regret taking her here. They basically ripped her out of my arms when she had passed too, I had very little time with her in general because the testing took longer than anything. I feel robbed, not only of money, but of an experience that should've been compassionate. I wasn't going to leave a review but I've had several several others tell me how messed up this was and that it's not normal. Please be weary, your companions lives are worth more than how they treated Bella and us. Rest easy sweet girl.

The call the day after the appointment made me happy to know they were checking in on my girl. They made sure to reach me as soon as they could about test results, too. Experiencia fantástica: Avalon Vet has been my family's VET for many years. They recently upgraded their location and facility to be more expansive with larger rooms and even a backdoor access for my reactive puppers allowing myself, my baby and the other patients to all feel safe. My puppers loves all of the techs and staff. Dr. Gazda is amazing, she is calm, patient, thorough and passionate about her work. Each time I go to Avalon Vet whether it is a crisis or annual check-up, I am confident with their ability to help my puppers.
