Experiencia fantástica: The vets, nurses, and whole staff were amazing and so kind! They explained everything and answered questions without judgement. Triage was fast! I really appreciated being able to see my cat at any point during his stay- the open concept allows you to walk up to their kennel and see your animals at any point during their stay.

Experiencia positiva: Dr. Christine was great in a big help but the prices are insane to walk in the door is $200 saline water two tiny vials were $140. I started to think when we go to these emergency vets we’re just doing this to pay employees.

Experiencia fantástica: I brought my senior kitty to VEG Pittsburgh after he had a scary accident playing with his toys on the stairs. I've had bad experiences with ER vets in the past, but this completely changed my perspective. From the initial phone call through discharge, we were treated with kindness and compassion. There was no wait, the facility was clean, and I was able to stay with him the entire time - even sitting with him and providing pets and comfort while he recovered. The staff took their time, gave him wonderful care (and lots of attention, which he loved!) They clearly explained treatment options at different price tiers without any pressure. The doctor also promptly emailed detailed notes so I could submit them to his insurance, which allowed me to be reimbursed immediately. Emergency visits are stressful, but their warmth and professionalism made a difficult situation much easier. I'm grateful for the care we received.

Experiencia fantástica: Penny had been bitten and her skin was torn away from her belly to her knees. The doc cleaned and sewed her up, leaving drainage holes to prevent infection. We returned home but she wouldn’t eat, drink or take medicine so we returned the following day for IV fluids and medication. She lit up entering the ER and wore this huge smile for the duration of her stay there. She would unquestionably give VegER five stars!!

Experiencia positiva: My wife took our cat here late last night. He was throwing up, not eating, being lethargic, and obviously had us worried. We contemplated for awhile what we should do. We love our cat, we wanted to take care of him, and ultimately decided it was better to bring him just Incase. I’m grateful they helped him, but they ultimately determined there was no medical emergency. This unfortunately still left us with a nearly $600 bill. I can’t pretend to understand why things cost what they cost, and I can’t really blame the business, however I have to be honest… The decision to help your pet knowing it will be a financial burden is such a sad reality. If it was worse I couldn’t imagine our family could afford it. I’m not saying anything groundbreaking or giving anyone advice, just know that helping your pet in these situations comes with a hefty price. I’ll always help my pet in a precieved emergency, but not without the dread of financial consequences. I wish it wasn’t like this, but emotional vulnerability is expensive.

Experiencia fantástica: VEG ER in Pittsburgh is a wonderful emergency care hospital. From the time you walk in through the doors the compassion and care shine through. When your pet is sick it is wonderful to have doctors and nurses who care about your pet and support the pet parents. It is the best emergency care hospital in pittsburgh!!

Experiencia fantástica: Top notch clinic. Quick access to a skilled clinician, you're able to stay with and support your pet, and decisions are made as a team after opportunity for questions and explanations. The medicine they practice is top notch (I know because I'm a veterinarian). They are good communicators and compassionate. My dog stayed calm and after some diagnostics and IV fluids and medications, she came home feeling better and has thrived. Whew!

Experiencia fantástica: If you are making a trip to a veterinarian emergency hospital, you are in dire straits, and that was absolutely the case as we walked up to VEG ER in East Liberty last night, a very loud and sick cat in her carrier. Jackie, who works the front desk, rushed to meet us at the door and immediately started taking our information while ushering us to a table and clinicians who immediately got to work. The entire vibe was incredibly peaceful and we felt cared for - considering this is a place for emergencies, this was unexpected and welcomed. When it came time to discuss treatment and next steps, Dr. Mauro and the student doctor (I believe her name was Jessica, apologies if I am misremembering) were so incredibly kind and supportive and patient with us, anticipating our needs and responding with such care. While we ultimately had to make an incredibly sad decision, it was comforting knowing we were doing so in the presence of people who cared. While I hope we do not ever need their services again, we will absolutely return without question if we do, and we will be recommending VEG ER to any of our fellow pet parents in need. Thank you so much to the team.

Experiencia fantástica: It’s been 6 months since my first ever visit to VEG. Still, 6 months after losing my dog that was terribly ill, i still think about this animal ER, and the people that work there. From the second i stepped through the door, he was shown right to an exam area in the open concept ER. They ran an EKG, did a quick exam, placed the IV… you name it… it was happening. AND… they sent me an estimate before moving any further to make sure i was okay to pay it. We were able to sit right there with him, and the kind assistant brought us bean bag chairs to sit on right in the middle of the action! Unfortunately, my baby was hemorrhaging internally, and was suffering from an addison’s crisis. Dr. DiPaola gave me the option of hospitalization to make sure he is rehydrated, make sure his labs are better, all the things. So, i went home after he was sleeping and tucked in to see my other dog and prepare for another day of being at the ER. I got a call from Dr. Tully saying i needed to come in. I got there, and the tech Christen was still there sitting with him. We went over additional options but decided on letting him go. They quickly moved us to a private room with dim, peaceful lighting where i held my baby take his last breath. It was the most peaceful experience i’ve ever had. I think about these angels every day. They did everything they could for my baby. THANK YOU…. Dr. DiPaola, Dr. Tully, and Vet tech Christen. I hope i never have to be at your ER again, but i know i will be if im in need of one.

Experiencia fantástica: I went to VEG ER for Pets in East Liberty because my puppy started showing signs of a bad UTI in the middle of the night and I could not say enough good things about the facility and staff. They were extremely kind and attentive right when we walked in the door. They were super efficient but thorough and got us in and out in a very reasonable amount of time. The cost of treatment was more than reasonable and the setup of the facility allowed for separation from other patients which was greatly appreciated considering my puppy was not fully vaccinated yet at the time of our visit. I couldn’t have asked for a better experience. HIGHLY recommend coming here if you ever need emergency care for your pet.

Experiencia negativa: I brought my 2.2-lb Yorkie to this emergency facility expecting aggressive, lifesaving care. What we received instead felt like a veterinary version of assisted dying. Despite performing an X-ray and ultrasound, the treating veterinarian failed to diagnose or disclose congestive heart failure. While my dog was in active respiratory distress, he was never provided oxygen, never given medication to relieve fluid or pressure, and was instead administered subcutaneous fluids, a treatment widely known to be contraindicated in CHF, especially in a dog this small. He was then discharged while still struggling to breathe. The outcome was rapid deterioration and euthanasia shortly after. Another veterinary provider later confirmed CHF and advised that fluid administration likely exacerbated the condition. In hindsight, the care provided here felt less like emergency medicine and more like resignation. The treating physician’s approach was disturbingly reminiscent of Dr. Kevorkian operating in a colonized K9 community, where life-saving intervention is optional and outcomes are quietly accepted. Even more troubling, the urgency of care noticeably declined once the doctor learned my dog was a senior rather than a puppy. Treatment appeared deferred, not escalated-raising serious concerns about age-based decision-making. My husband, a Black man, was the sole person present during this visit. Given the lack of urgency, disclosure, escalation of care, or even basic respiratory support, we cannot ignore the possibility that implicit bias played a role in how concerns were addressed and how treatment decisions were made. That is not an accusation, it is a question forced by the facts and the outcome. Frankly, my dog would have stood a better chance under the attentive care of Doc McStuffins than under a licensed professional who ignored clear red flags, withheld critical information, and failed to provide even the most basic supportive care. This was not an unavoidable tragedy. It was substandard, negligent veterinary care, and pet owners deserve to know exactly where not to bring the animals they love.

Experiencia fantástica: Yo Everyone Shout out to Veg Er My cat Moe was diagnosed with Fip and I was down to my last and couldn’t afford to save him. Veg Er front desk Staff let me know they accept Care credit and walked me through the steps on how to make it all work . They are oven 24 hours took my Cat in and they Immediately took him in and actually saved his life as it was time sensitive. Shout out to the Head Er Doctors very professional and Compassionate and five stars to Raven (front desk staff) for keeping me and my cat comfortable thru the Whole Process Big Love n Respect Bless Up One Love

Experiencia fantástica: Hello! i’m here to leave a real and raw review. if I could get this place 1 million stars I would! sadly, my dog was hit by a car when my brother had accidentally taken his fence collar off and he ran up to the road with our hidden driveway. Let’s just say I was genuinely in shock. We hurried up to an emergency vet near us, which I guess I’ve been a typo because when they got there, they told us they could not treat us. We’ve been had to take a $50 Uber to this emergency hospital in hopes that they could obviously they did we had checked the website lol but first things first the immediately helped us get him out of the car, they were incredibly gentle and sweet and understanding, and they were quick to act as soon as we got in there, we laid him down and we were literally sprawled out in the middle of the floor. They weren’t super busy, but they were just working around us. They didn’t care that we were laying there with our dog who was in shock. They were super understanding and sweet and they even gave him some medicine while we figured out a plan. this right off the bat was honestly heartwarming as someone who suffers with serious anxiety, and a friend who was with me who also has anxiety. This was an incredibly stressful moment because this has been my best friend for the last six years luckily, they explained that they didn’t see any serious damage, but we were going to make out a whole plan I worked with the Doctor Who was literally a sweetheart, made out of a plan, even had some parts where we had some financial issues so I talked to her, and she went ahead and modified the plan for us to pursue our budget accommodation which right off the bat, a lot of vets would’ve turned us away than in there but she was understanding and sat and figured out a plan for us. we were able to meet around half of the budget maybe a little more so then she went ahead and modified the budget for us and then they went started for treatment. It had been hours of us trying to figure this out me and my friend went and got some food while the dog was getting treated as we had not eaten all day. They were super understanding of us even getting food and even were joking around with us and making us feel more welcome it genuinely felt like I was friends with everyone there. Then when we returned, he went and saw him and she went over a couple things with us, not only did she void some of the treatments she was going to do the ones she voided she ended up doing anyway, and went ahead and stitched up his wound and honestly that was so heart won’t make as somebody that doesn’t come from a good financial family and usually has to be the burdens of stuff like this happening having someone so understandable and loving towards animals is such a huge win nowadays with healthcare it’s hard to even find that for humans and again this was my best friend of six years. I didn’t wanna lose him to a stupid car. already frustrated from the hit-and-run luckily my dog slowly woke up and was starting to feel like himself. He was still struggling to walk, but we managed to get him discharged and get him out of there. All of the staff were so sweet. They even had a shift change in the new staff that had come in were so so sweet. They had snack snacks, and drink drinks and water for anybody there who was waiting or needed it. They had dog treats, literally everywhere and probably some cat treats. The doctor I had even had brought her cat to work and let us see her. She was so cute!! this was so worth it and the hospital was so caring. I recommend if you have an emergency to go here I felt incredibly welcomed and incredibly seen. They didn’t even have a long wait time if we have any emergencies in the future we will definitely be back. I hope they can open more hospitals around PA. We need some good doctors around here! I will definitely be sending them a little photo of Ollie for his recovery. They even said they liked when people checked in! So so sweet I recommend for literally everybody!

Experiencia fantástica: I was very upset coming in but the staff took amazing care of me and Snickers and calmed me down immediately. They were efficient, kind and calming. Highly recommend this vet! Also they take exotics. Snickers is a ferret and they treated him like they would a dog or cat!

Experiencia fantástica: I have no other words for this place other than amazing!!! I unfortunately had to come here during the big snow storm that hit cause something was telling me my baby wasn’t right. Come to find out she needed time sensitive surgery and we weren’t really sure how that would go. Of course hearing that as a pet mom I was a mess. Every member of the staff was warm and kind hearted. They explained everything and helped / guided me through the scary process. My fur baby went Into surgery that night and of course me being a helicopter mom I stayed the whole time. They set me up with a room, would frequently check in and let me know what was going on. The care doesn’t just stop when you leave either, i’ve called with questions non stop and everyone was more than welcome to help to ensure she was making a good recovery. They treat every animal as if it were their own. The 2 doctors and all the nurses that worked on her saved her and for that i’m forever grateful. Nothing can put into words how blessed I was to have them as the team working on my baby. This team is truly amazing with the work they do! Amira says thank you as well!

I had to wait a little longer because an emergency came in but I did not mind at all because I watched the whole staff drop everything and come together to fight to save a dog’s life. It actually brought tears to my eyes. At other Vet ERs, we wait for hours and have no idea what’s going on and it’s frustrating but at VEG I had a completely different experience and left with nothing but love and complete respect for the whole team. They’re incredible human beings and exceptional at what they do which is save lives.

Experiencia fantástica: I want to make sure that Dr. Sefchok, Dr. Barker, Dr. Cameron, Cassidy, Kelsey, Jami, Raven, and Gabby (everyone who handled my cat at one point or another during his stay), get the recognition they deserve. My 16ish year old cat suffered a urinary blockage on Sunday morning during the big snow storm and once we arrived to this location in Pittsburgh, they immediately got us situated and comfortable. They also risked themselves getting to their place of work in the storm and I heard some were staying somewhere else close by just to make sure they could make it in to work in case of emergency to help others in need, that alone is amazing! But they helped treat my cat and I was even able to see what all was going on as it was happening. They checked in with me every time I needed to know something when I left him overnight, and even after bringing him home, I have called multiple times asking “silly” questions (there are no silly questions but I always feel bad for overthinking), and they are just so comforting to talk to, and always tell us to reach back out for any reason at all. I’ve had bad experiences at other vets in the past, and this healed a little bit of my worries for the future, fully recommend this facility to anyone in need of urgent care with their pets. Thank you all so much again, being able to sit here on the floor with my boy right now is the best feeling in the whole world, and you all are beyond amazing at what you do. You all deserve nothing but the best, bless you all!!!

Experiencia fantástica: I cannot thank the staff enough for helping our new puppy after she got parvovirus. It was a holiday weekend and very tough to watch her so sick. She recovered well and she is doing well adjusting to her new home! Thanks for all your staff does, your compassion to animals is always shown!

Experiencia fantástica: My fiancé and I brought our almost 3 year old cat to this location as many others around us were closed on a Friday night. The team working here were able to bring our little guy right to a treatment table as soon as we stepped through the door. They immediately got to work caring for our little family member. In addition to this, they allowed us to stay with him through his entire stay. We are incredibly grateful to the team working here for working so well together to help our baby kitty. A massive thanks to Dr.Sefchok and the rest of the vet team for their time and care.

Experiencia fantástica: I came in with our 10 year old rabbit Kibo who was starting to decline and at the end of her life. I had never been to this vet before and was amazed by all the staff and their treatment of me and our rabbit. They made the process of saying goodbye a calm and dignified experience. Experiencia fantástica: I would take my pet's here for an emergency over any other place in the Pittsburgh area. The staff was so kind and attentive, they explained every procedure, test result and diagnosis. They never separate you from your pet if you don't want to be separated, and you can stay 24/7 if you want. They even review prices with you to help make a gameplan for treatment. 10/10 place, so thankful that they're taking such good care of my baby kitty. It's obvious that all the staff members here truly love to take care of animals.

Experiencia fantástica: I cannot say enough good things about the staff and care we received at VEG this following week. We came in early Wednesday morning (almost 3 am) with an emaciated dog that we had found. She was very close to death. You could see every bone in this poor girl's body. We were in and out over the course of the next few days in order to raise funds for various testing and care that she needed to save her life. They fielded calls from people wanting to make donations for her care, answered any and all questions we had willingly, and never made us feel like we were being a bother. They worked with us and were compassionate throughout it all, from the medical team to the front desk staff. Without them, she most likely would not be here. THANK YOU ♥️

Experiencia fantástica: The staff here are truly incredible. Kind, knowledgeable, and always going above and beyond. My cat passed away at the end of a five-night inpatient stay. Even though I'm devastated I can undoubtedly say they did everything possible for my sweet girl and for me. I got to stay with her as much as I wanted and we had our own room. Thank you to every single person who cared for us and to Walter the cat for donating blood to Aayla.

Experiencia fantástica: Took our dog here today as we suspected he had pneumonia and other nearby ERs had a crazy long wait or were at capacity. The staff here is extremely friendly and educated. They told us that they wanted to make this a comfortable and non stressful experience for us and our dog, and they succeeded! They were very efficient in their care. I would 10/10 recommend VEG ER and their staff!

Experiencia fantástica: We brought our Chinese dwarf hamster Niuniu to VEG ER on the night of 1/13/26 due to respiratory distress and reduced energy level. She was cared for promptly and compassionately. Niuniu unfortunately still passed away midnight of 1/15/26 after putting up a good fight. Knowing that we did all we could to our knowledge to help Niuniu when she was vulnerable gave us some comfort. I hope we did what was right for her as it was indeed stressful for her to go through the medical exams etc. The head nurse was highly attentive. Experiencia fantástica: I don't usually write reviews but felt compelled to write one after we took our dog, Cash, to VEG ER after he got into some raisins. The staff there was very supportive and helpful, easing our minds with positive attitudes and warm welcomes. Cash ended up having to stay a couple days for monitoring and Dr. Abby Picyk was so attentive to him during his stay there, along with the other staff. We truly felt he was in great hands. There was even an emergent situation where another dog came in during our time there before leaving Cash overnight and that dog passed away in front of us. It was very chaotic and emotional and Dr. Abby came back specifically to check on us and see if we were ok given the stressful situation. This is my first ER vet experience and I am very appreciative of everyone at VEG ER taking care of my best boy and for their positive attitudes. It truly made a difference to our little family.

She’s also not dog friendly, and they were able to accommodate a room for her so she wasn’t around other pets while we were waiting (it wasn’t too busy when we went). We have also recently called on a different occasion due to a potential emergency; and were able to talk to a vet to determine next steps of care. Highly recommend.

Experiencia fantástica: I could not be more happy with my experience at VEG in East Liberty. I brought my kitty in because she was having UTI like symptoms. Despite the fact that VEG was busy with much more critical patients, the doctor and nurse were so kind and attentive. They did a thorough work up and talked us through each step. Sent us home with medication and detailed instructions. All the staff was so kind and sympathetic to our kitty. Seriously - if your pet has an issue, take them here! I could not recommend them enough

Experiencia fantástica: Very impressed with the clinic. Clean and staff was completely friendly + professional the entire time. We were promptly given an initial examination to determine if any emergency procedures needed to occur and once it was determined that it wasn't an immediate concern we were sent to the waiting room and visited by a vet within the hour. We were checked on as we waited and informed of the queue. The entire clinic was fairly calm + clean especially when you consider what type of environment it is. They offered advice on the phone before we visited and the vet spoke with us multiple times beyond her initial assessment. The price for the assessment was fairly reasonable at about $200. They offered scans + bloodwork which would have run us over $1000, which in my opinion is a little much, but they didn't force it on us and once we decided our situation wasn't at that level they understood. Just keep in mind if you end up needing an x-ray, that will run you about $500. Overall, very impressed with the clinic and for our situation where we stopped in, they verified nothing was of major concern, and we went home, it was all you could ask for. They treated my sister's cat better than UPMC treated me as a human when I went to their ER (and for a similar price).

Experiencia fantástica: Our little guy, Axel, has glaucoma. His eye was completely closed and oozing. He was in tremendous pain. The vet tech and the Doc were exceptionally caring. This is the 2nd time we visited VEG. The first time was with our other little guy who had pancreatitis. I would recommend VEG as one of the best emergency places to go. Thank you VEG!

Experiencia fantástica: I was referred to VEG from AVET in Monroeville because they were swamped at 8:30 pm. I was glad I went. As a first-timer, I had no idea what to expect and was pleasantly surprised at the immediate triage we received and how I was allowed to be present while the team worked on my kitty, Gioia. It felt like a true medical emergency room--thorough, efficient, proficient--yet friendly and welcoming. VEG is highly equipped with high-tech diagnostic tools that effectively triages your pet's condition. I left with the medication Gioia needed and my Vet received Gioia's medical report the next morning. I felt I got exceptional care for the cost and the time that I was there.

Experiencia fantástica: I am tremendously thankful for Dr. Hoch, technicians and the rest of the staff for treating my cat, Howl. They triaged her, came up with a plan, and started with treatment right away. They were very compassionate and understanding about our situation. Information was transparent and thorough, and Dr. Hoch answered any questions with extensive knowledge. If you're in a medical emergency with your pet, this is the best place to go. Again, I truly can't express my gratitude for Dr. Hoch and the amazing team with her. I am lucky enough to walk out with my Howl. Thank you all so much!!

Experiencia fantástica: Very very kind. My kitty was having very rapid breaths but was fine otherwise. We wanted to bring him in just in case. Although they couldn't identify anything wrong with him externally, they wanted to do a radiograph. Our kitty was becoming calmer though and we didn't see the need. Overall, a great experience and very compassionate and attentive workers. Definitely would recommend!

Experiencia negativa: I am writing this review so other pet parents do not have to go through what we did. We brought our kitten, Maze, to this ER after midnight in terrible snowy weather, terrified and desperate for help. He was visibly very sick. He was actively vomiting worms. Despite this being an emergency hospital, we were made to wait almost an hour. From the moment we were seen, it felt like our concerns were not taken seriously. Poor kitten had already been given a dewormer, and I clearly told the doctor this. Despite that, another dewormer was given. We were then discharged saying he will be fine next morning. The doctor stated the intestines were clear, yet the kitten was unable to defecate and continued to deteriorate. I strongly believe that giving him over dose of dewormer deteriorated his condition and caused his death. Losing him was extremely sad. Watching a small, helpless kitten suffer when we had taken him to an “emergency” hospital for help is something I will never forget. What makes this worse is the lack of compassion. We were treated coldly, rushed through, and when we later reached out in distress, we were essentially told to go somewhere else. On top of this, we were charged heavily, including inflated prices for food and basic items, which made it painfully clear that money mattered more than animal care. For a place that claims to exist to save lives, the focus felt entirely financial. The only bright spot in this entire nightmare was one nurse, who showed genuine kindness and tried to help. She was the only person who seemed to care that our kitten was suffering. VEG ER failed Maze. They failed the responsibility that comes with calling yourself an emergency veterinary hospital. Maze, I am so sorry. May you receive all the love in heaven that I could not give you here

Experiencia fantástica: This place is really amazing! My pet was seen within seconds of arriving, literally, and everyone was very kind and compassionate. I was able to stay with him the entire time and observe his treatment(s), which kept us both calmer. Emergency medicine is never gonna be cheap, but I don’t feel like the prices here were *that* much higher than a regular vet’s office. They require full payment up front but do take Care Credit. Most importantly, they helped my pet and he is recovering very well. Highly recommended!

Experiencia fantástica: I used VEG for the first time almost 2 weeks ago. My cat, Perry, was in distress. They took him immediately and was told he had a blood clot. I made the painful to euthanize him. All of the staff were so kind and compassionate. I never imagined I would be there a week later with one of our cocker spaniels who had injured his leg. The emergency room was extremely full with cases that were much more critical than ours, so we knew and understood that it would be a long wait. Again, the staff was kind, compassionate, and professional. I would like to send a shout out to Jackie. She was on shift both of the times we were there, and were able to observe her in action during both visits. She was so patient and kind to everyone all while running around and mopping the floors (it was so muddy outside), providing the dogs with beds to lay on, answering the phone, and answering questions from owners. She was so incredibly patient and was just overall impressive. I would recommend VEG to anyone.

Experiencia fantástica: It's hard for me to state how appreciative I am to VEG ER. A year and a half ago, I lost my 10 month old kitten to FeLV and the whole process was traumatic. Skip ahead to yesterday and my new cat is lethargic and not eating, so last night I started to panic and called them. They told me to bring him in, so I did. When I did, everyone was super caring and friendly and they got to him right away. Unfortunately, I had a little issue financially and would not be able to cover the cost of the visit, but they were so kind and understanding cause they saw me attempting to pay, that they worked it out with me and gave him the fluids he needed. This morning he seems back to his normal self and I am just so grateful. Thank you!

Experiencia fantástica: Before even visiting the facility, I had the chance to speak with one of the vets directly who recommend I come in with my German Shepherd dog, who was possibly experiencing a GDV. Fortunately, we were able to get her to the facility in time and the staff was absolutely wonderful. She ended up needing emergency surgery where I never left her side. They even set me up a station with pillows and blankets to sleep if I wanted to, since it was in the middle of the night, I can’t give enough credit to the staff. They saved my dog’s life!

Their bedside manner was truly exceptional and allowed our dog to receive treatment that she normally would have needed to be sedated for. When she got her shot, she yelped—but the entire team immediately cheered for her, and she felt better right away. Even though we were there in the middle of the night, everyone was upbeat, cheerful, and genuinely helpful. Shawn, Alex, and Dr. Cameron (to name a few) were absolutely wonderful and made a stressful situation feel calm and positive. It was a fantastic experience, and we can’t thank them enough for the care and compassion they showed our dog and our family.

We were so worried about finding an exotic pet vet that could take care of her right away and VEG delivered! They treated her with the utmost care and were incredibly kind and understanding when I was sobbing like a baby in the waiting room. We were able to get x-rays and medicine within a couple of hours and our guinea pig is feeling 100% better now. HIGHLY recommend this place - these lovely people care so much about animals and the people that take care of them and it shows.

They saw us immediately, treated Penny with gentleness and knowledge, and showed so much compassion for me in my state of panic. Although Penny ended up being completely fine, the staff at VEG never once made me feel dumb for driving through the winter weather in the middle of the night just for her to be seen.

They are not in it for the money and actually care about helping the animals and their families. They handled Diva with such tenderness and dignity—it was clear they understood she wasn’t “just a pet,” she was family.I’ve been through euthanasia before at other clinics, and nothing has ever come close to the level of empathy and humanity we received here. They do not provide orthopedic surgery there but were able to refer me to the best possible option. We are 2 wks post-op and my baby is doing great. Experiencia fantástica: I want to share my experiences with VEG (Veterinary Emergency Group) — not just with Chewy this week, but also with Finley earlier this month — because they truly changed everything for us. On November 1st, Finley suddenly became neurological. She was stumbling, falling over… nothing about her symptoms was normal, especially for a 3-month-old kitten. I rushed her to AVETS, and we waited nearly 7 hours without ever seeing a doctor. Every time I asked for an update, I was told she was “stable” and would just have to wait. I still can’t wrap my head around how a kitten in that condition could be considered stable. Out of desperation, I called VEG. Jackie, the receptionist who answered, was incredibly kind and compassionate. She told me they were also swamped — it was a Saturday evening — but she encouraged me to bring Finley in, reassuring me that at the very least a doctor would lay eyes on her right away. And that’s exactly what happened. The moment we walked through the doors at VEG, we were taken straight to their open triage area. A vet tech was already at our side taking vitals and getting Finley’s history. Within two minutes, a doctor was with us. The relief I felt is something I’ll never forget. The entire experience was impressive from start to finish. Every single person we encountered was compassionate, attentive, and genuinely caring. As we waited for diagnostics, we could see everything happening in the hospital. Watching the staff handle every emergency that walked through the door with such ease, professionalism, and heart was like nothing I’ve ever seen. Finley was discharged that night, and she has made a full recovery. Fast forward a few weeks, and Chewy suddenly began struggling to breathe after being diagnosed with pneumonia earlier in the day. Without hesitation, we headed straight to VEG. Again, the same kindness, compassion, and swift response. Chewy needed to be hospitalized, and we felt completely comfortable leaving our sweet boy in their care. Both doctors who treated him ( Dr. Crowling and Dr. Thomas) were phenomenal — they explained everything, kept me updated, and truly treated Chewy as if he were their own. The nurses were just as wonderful. They loved him, comforted him, and made sure he got exactly what he needed. Thanks to them, he was able to be discharged and is on the road to recovery. I honestly can’t believe I wasn’t using VEG all along, despite other rescue friends recommending them. That has officially changed. As for AVETS… after what we experienced and everything I’ve heard from others, we won’t be returning. I’m not sure what’s going on over there, but maybe it’s time they take a page from VEG’s book on how to treat people — and their pets. VEG, thank you for caring for both of my babies with the urgency, empathy, and professionalism every emergency hospital should strive for. ER visits for a pet are typically a nightmare, but this was probably the best experience under the circumstances I've had at an emergency vet. I hope I do not need ER services again but if I do, this is where I will be going.

Experiencia fantástica: We brought our Guinea Pig Bob here back in June of this year upon noticing blood in his urine. Everyone we dealt with was extremely nice and they were very empathic since my daughter was crying as this was her Guinea Pig. He had a urinary stone and we were told to get into a small animal vet ASAP as this was serious and he would need surgery. They even provided a list of small animal vets for me. I appreciate the help and the advice they gave us. Unfortunately Bob passed away after having surgery.

Experiencia fantástica: I’ve been to multiple urgent care or emergency vets in 2 different states —4 in the Pgh area alone (I have a dog with a chronic illness that can flare up with little notice)and VEG is the best one BY A MILE. We were there on a night when all other emergency vets in the area were at capacity and diverting all additional patients to VEG so it was extremely busy, but the medical staff was calm and worked beautifully well together to handle the volume. Both my wife and I have worked in the healthcare industry, so we’re not clueless when I say this: It’s very tempting for a clinic that doesn’t turn away walk-ins to just do the bare minimum to get your pet stabilized and you need to follow-up with your regular vet later. But VEG has figured out how to be both efficient (which they need on these high volume nights) and thorough (which WE need for the well being of our pets). If I win the powerball, I’m going to give them enough money to open another location. Because they’re the real deal and the pet-loving community needs more of them.

I was triaged in a timely fashion and Dr. Cameron had a plan right away, going above and beyond to find us a quiet spot so that Preston would be less anxious. At every step the entire team was compassionate, calm, reassuring and showed their professionalism and expertise throughout our entire visit. Thank you so much for taking great care of Preston!

Experiencia fantástica: My dog was bit by another dog while I was out since it was Saturday I had no choice but to take her to an emergency vet soI brought her into VEG! When I first came in a kind man with a nice mustache, who I later found out his name was Theo was very comforting and kind in the process of helping me check my baby in to be seen. After my wonderful interaction with Theo later on a sweet caring woman named Maia came and helped my dear by getting her vitals and all of that jazz, as well as giving my baby a shot to relieve her of pain. When she was giving the shot my baby queen snapped at her because she was in pain, but Maia kept her cool and assured me it wasn’t an issue. She understood and was very kind about the whole thing. The weight was kind of long, but Katie and Steph were close for most of the time and answered a few of my questions when I was in distress. Dr. Shelby, the sweetest of them all was able to get my baby patched up well enough so that she could go to her vet on Monday. After my baby was patched up, Steph made sure that we were well taken care of even after queen took a fat stinky poop on the couch. I was very excited to do this review because everyone was so kind and when I asked for everyone’s names, Steph took the time to write down everyone’s name for me so that I could mention everyone personally by name and thank you all individually. So once again, thank you Theo the mustache man. Thank you Maia with the piercings. Thank you Katie. Thank you Dr. Julia. thank you Dr. Shelby!! Without all of you and your kindness I don’t think I would have been able to get through yesterday. I am happy to leave this review and hopefully encourage other people to come to this vet because you cannot put a price on well trained, compassionate, hard-working staff. (I am 23 but I am not very tech savvy so just imagine a picture of a cute scruffy dog that’s white mostly with black ears and some white spots under her super furry coat)

Experiencia fantástica: I took my cat here for what ended up being diagnosed as DKA after being turned away by AVETS due to having too many patients. I couldn’t have asked for a better experience at VEG. I called ahead and spoke with Theo who was super kind and helpful; sent a link for paperwork to speed the process along upon arrival and brought me a coffee after my pet was initially seen - so thoughtful. I was seen immediately upon arrival (and so were all the other patients I saw arrive after me). They were super up front about treatment and cost and were so very kind. The vet and the vet techs were warm, efficient and knowledgeable. I’d take my pets here again in a heartbeat (knock on wood I don’t have to).

I can tell that everyone there treats every animal in their care with compassion. Anyone I talked to spent as much time as I needed to answer my questions. Dr. Neely and Dr. Wilson primarily covered my case (male feline urinary obstruction) and they both were so wonderful and kind to me and my little guy. I also want to shout out the front desk staff as they were also so kind and helpful on the phone and in person, checking to see if I needed anything. The facility has snacks, coffee, tea, and other accommodating items. The facility was also well kept and felt clean.

Experiencia fantástica: Really appreciated the front desk staff (and everyone else) who were so kind and supportive when my cat unexpectedly passed away last evening and I called not knowing what else to do. Within a few seconds on the phone, I was speaking to a vet, and within minutes we were there and right away in a private room being seen. I wish we hadn’t needed to be there, but I’m grateful for the compassion we were shown when we had to be there.

My dog also absolutely hates the vet, and they did a really good job making him feel as comfortable as possible. It is expensive (pet insurance is a must), but they give you treatment plans and options to fit your budget as much as possible. 100% would recommend if you have an emergency with your pet.

Experiencia fantástica: i’m very happy with mine and coopers visit there. everyone was super friendly and helpful throughout the whole experience. they started helping us almost immediately when we walked into the building. when i couldn’t afford everything they needed to do they kept the estimate under $3400, and i was ultimately refunded $500. my cooper is back to how he always was, and im going to do everything i can to prevent him getting blocked again.

My baby ended up needing surgery and they decided to help with the cost of her surgery after I came up short to save her life. Words cannot express the gratitude I have for them. Dr. Graham and Dr. Cuccaro (sorry I think I misspelled this) went above and beyond for my baby. We are now home resting and recovering. From the bottom of our hearts thank you for saving her life!!

I wasn’t in the door for more than 15 seconds before a young, very friendly gentleman took me from the waiting room to the examination area. My information was taken and My cat was promptly examined by two different Vet Techs. Once it was established that I probably needed end of life care. I was given a private room and the doctor came into talk to me, explained my options, discussed costs ( a necessity evil) and then a plan as put into place. Every Single Person was professional and compassionate and what was absolutely a horrible day was made the best it could be by the fine, understanding and compassion staff! I give these folks a 5 star rating and strongly recommend them, they made a horrible day tolerable. Thank you to everyone at V.E.G for making a difficult day manageable

Even when more urgent cases needed the doctors attention, someone was there to give me updates and to communicate my pets condition to Dr Wells. We were given a quiet room for me to sit with him as we waited to see the results of treatment. Very reasonable approach - providing the right level of care - leaving me with a reasonable bill. Bedside manner at this clinic was exceptional. I was turned away at two other clinics before arriving due to staffing shortages, but I can say now I am glad I was. I will always use VEG as my emergency veterinary provider in the future. Thank you for taking good care of Goose!

Experiencia fantástica: There are truly no words to thank the team at VEG for what they did for our dog Scip. He was hospitalized for five nights with pancreatitis and acute hemorrhagic diarrhea syndrome, and then developed septic and hypovolemic shock. We were terrified and but this incredible team never gave up on him. Their expertise, teamwork, and compassion truly saved his life. Dr. Wells in particular went above and beyond for Scip. As soon as she walked out the door after our first time meeting her, my partner and I looked at each other and cried happy tears because we knew he was in good hands. Her dedication, skill, and communication gave us confidence even in the scariest moments. We know without a doubt that her quick thinking and constant attention are the reason we got to bring our boy home. She is both an incredible vet and person but also teacher and leader of her team. Dr. Barker also took care of him during a few rough nights and was so attentive, thorough, levelheaded, and compassionate. Danielle was our nurse during our hardest days and we could not be more grateful for steady, comforting presence during that time. She treated him (and us) with such kindness and empathy and is now someone I will always consider a friend. I wish I could give a shout out to every single person we interacted with, every single one of them were incredible. Over the five days we were there, we got to witness this team in action with so many patients. Running codes, triaging new patients, and treating every animal and family with respect and compassion. Their open concept setup also meant we could stay with Scip the whole time, which we truly believe made a difference in his recovery. When Scip was finally well enough to go home, the whole team celebrated with us and it was the most special moment. Even if his outcome would’ve been different, we still couldn’t recommend this team enough. The level of care, dedication, and heart they bring to their work is extraordinary. We will be forever grateful for this team who now feels like family and for giving our boy a second chance at life. VEG team, we love you & Scip loves you! PS Scip update: he has been a rockstar since we’ve been home! He walking, eating, drinking, and taking his meds like a champ and is getting stronger every day!! They brought Boomer back right away, no waiting around, no feeling ignored — it was clear his safety and well-being came first. They were so patient and gentle with him and also incredibly reassuring with me, explaining what was happening and why, every step of the way. You could tell they genuinely cared, not just about treating him, but about making sure he was comfortable and not scared. It’s really hard handing your pup over in an emergency, but I honestly felt like he was in the best possible hands. Boomer was cared for immediately, and we were treated with respect, urgency, and kindness the entire time. I’m so grateful for them and I would 100% recommend their emergency services to anyone. They truly went above and beyond for Boomer.

He bit through a wire and we found him unresponsive, I immediately called VEG panicked and tearful and the receptionist was so kind and patient over the phone while attempting to decipher what I was saying. By the time we ran through the doors our baby did not have a pulse, the medical team quickly sprung into action and while caring for our boy provided sincerity and empathy throughout. Even with the hard effort, our babies body couldn't handle the damage that was done. The team did not try to rush us out or anything, they gave us time to hold and mourn our boy. Then they prepped Purrcy in his box so we could bring him home for his siblings to understand what happened and to bury him, on top of that they gave us clippings of his fur and prints of his nose and paws. He looked so peaceful, like our smiling boy was taking a nap. Although we are heartbroken over the sudden loss of our boy, I can't thank the medical team enough that worked last night on 10/25, from the woman who answered the phone, the Healthcare staff who worked on our boy, and the admitting woman. Thank yinz for easing us through this process with love, sincerity, and empathy.

Experiencia fantástica: Every single person on the VEG team was kind, considerate, and thorough. I was so impressed by how attentive everybody was as they were at max capacity. The estimates and pricing transparency was one of my favorite things especially since the vet sat down and explained it to me every step of the way. I will admit I was there for almost 7 hours but, my dog was stable and they had many urgent emergencies come in. Because so many people were in the hospital for extended periods of time, I think the head vet or maybe manager (i’m unsure) ordered pizza for the entire building. I haven’t even experienced this kind of hospitality and kindness in a human hospital. I would recommend VEG to anybody that will listen!

Experiencia fantástica: I have brought in a rooster, turkey, and rabbit for different emergency/urgent care visits after my vet was closed. Everyone there has been kind, compassionate, and generally amazing! I’m so glad to have found VEG for emergency/after hours care for my “exotics”
