Experiencia fantástica: I will forever use this place. I was nervous to try a new vet because my cat can be anxious with new people. I spoke to Payton on the phone and she ensured me that they would take care of my baby. Fast forward to the appointment. I walked in and Payton knew exactly who I was and greeted me at the door. My kitty was meowing loudly and I know I appeared very overwhelmed. Payton helped sign me in and I sat down on the bench. She kept checking in to make sure I was okay. This level of professionalism from the staff and the doctors is so unheard of and I am SO happy that this is my cat’s new vet.

Experiencia negativa: I was very optimistic about this vet as I’ve heard great things but I was very disappointed. Ashley in the front desk was very kind at updating my appointment quickly when I called this morning but Peyton was extremely dismissive and rude from the start proving no introduction upon meeting me and immediately being stand-off ish when it’s my first time here with my new pup. I disclosed that I came here because my dog may have been exposed to kennel cough at daycare (all of which I explained on the phone and was told I did not. I absolutely did.) I do not appreciate being made to feel as though I did not disclose this information when I absolutely 100% did immediately after being told by the daycare lead.

Experiencia fantástica: We called late on a Sunday afternoon after we discovered a very large infection on our cats neck. He is mostly an outdoor cat. The staff explained everything. They drained the pocket of infection gave him an antibiotic shot and pain medicine there and some to take with us. It was 45 miles round trip. It has been one week ago today and our cat is well. Thank you so much.

Our two year old cat suddenly developed severe respiratory issues, and even though we were new patients with no appointment, the staff immediately brought us back and began helping him right away. Their vet tech, Shelby, was incredibly supportive throughout the process. She was quick to act, reassuring, and clearly cared for our cat as if he were her own. Dr. Allison took our cat back for x-rays and testing. She ultimately determined that he needed emergency care. She was patient, kind, and steady, especially since we had no idea how serious the situation was when we arrived. She explained every option clearly, including cost effective emergency care choices, and helped us decide to take him to Auburn due to the severity of his condition. Before we left, she called ahead to make sure the emergency team knew we were coming. We were seen right away once we got there. We stayed in the waiting room while we waited on an update and overheard the front desk staff mention that Dr. Allison had called to check on our cat after we had arrived, asked how he was doing, what the team at Auburn ultimately thought the cause was. Hearing how genuinely concerned she was meant the world to us during such an overwhelming and uncertain moment. Thankfully, our cat was able to come home with a treatment plan and instructions to follow up at Avondale as soon as possible. Since Dr. Allison was out of town, we were seen by another doctor filling in for her, and she was just as wonderful. She took the time to review everything that had happened, asked how I was coping, and asked thoughtful questions to understand our cat’s condition. She even sat on the floor with him to help him feel comfortable enough to come out on his own. She answered all of my anxious questions with patience and compassion and explained each possible diagnosis and what it would mean for his care. Once again, we left feeling completely supported. Today, now that she is back from vacation, Dr. Allison called to check on him again. I have no doubt our sweet boy will be cared for each step of the way during this process, and he is currently feeling much better!! I cannot express how caring, patient, and extraordinary this entire practice is. We will absolutely be bringing all of our pets here from now on!!!

From my first call to walking in, the whole hospital was so sweet and Dr K was so excillent with my Baby beaerd dragon. She told me so much information on bearded dragons and it made my mama heart feel so much better .we live an hour and 20 minutes away and this wonderful hospital for animals is worth the drive even the Tech nurse was so sweet she warmed up a warmie for my bearded dragon because of how far away we live so he can stay warm all the way home !!! :) They truly care about your animals and my popcorn was so relaxed with Dr K and her nurse assistant. Thank you guys so much for pouring your love into our babies !! I will also be going to Dr K animal clinic for my bearded dragons check up so worth the drive!!!!

Experiencia fantástica: Service at Avondale Animal Hospital is great. I have a new fur baby, a couple of months old, under the care of Dr. Cobb. She was wonderful and loving with Buddy. Dr. Cobb explained the issue going on with him, administered medication and he's was doing so much better the next day. Previously, another baby of mine was taken care of by Dr. Atchison for many, many years, so that is why I felt comfortable and confident returning with this fur baby knowing the doctors there provide great care.

I’m very cautious about my cat and tend to worry too much, but the attentiveness and care from AAH has been more than reassuring. The front desk is very welcoming, and the vet techs are kind and gentle with your pets, and the vets are amazing. The entire staff is capable, thorough, and considerate. My 6 month old kitten went in for a spay a few weeks ago and I was so anxious. Before the surgery, they noticed she had a mild respiratory infection and recommended pushing off the spay. I appreciated how thorough they were in their pre-surgery work and how much they cared about her wellbeing. She had her spay today and everything went smoothly. She’s home now and doing great!! Dr. Allison & Dr. Atchison are awesome. You will not regret bringing your pet here.

Oreo had been sick and we didn't know what was wrong and she needed tests run and ended up needing surgery as well but they took such good care of her. Not only did they take amazing care of Oreo but they supported us like we were one of their own and I can't even fully express how much we appreciate you all! Very helpful and understanding staff. Main goal was to have Oreo taken care of and make sure our money was well spent on great care! again thank u so much!

Experiencia negativa: Shamed our dog for being a Frenchie- connected us with an emergency vet who then also shamed our dog for being a Frenchie. Told us to euthanize our dog. Our pet is in good health and not even 13 yet. Avondale Animal Hospitwl was not helpful even though our dog is in so much pain and distress. No empathy, bedside manner, or care. Two different doctors told us to euthanize our pet even though her lab work is good. Preemptively took our pet off of her medicine which resulted in us having to go to the emergency vet for the second weekend in a row. Refused to write prescription medication (even if it was an antibiotic) for our dog. I don’t want anyone else to experience this. Pets are family members, too. Pets deserve the utmost care. We deserve help when we are paying for services to try to help our pet who is in excruciating pain. Would rate 0 out of 5 stars if google review provided the option. Never again.

Experiencia fantástica: Came here for the 1st time with my two cats after moving to Alabama. The staff is absolutely incredible and it's apparent how much they care for animals. They also were extremely helpful and understanding with keeping the visit in my budget while still giving full care and attention to my babies. 10/10 recommend!!

Experiencia negativa: My neighbor abducted my healthy cat and took him to Avondale animal hospital. They scanned him, saw that he was microchipped to me, and proceeded to “treat” my cat to the tune of nearly $400, despite not knowing his medical history and fully aware that the individual that brought him in was not his registered owner. I received a message informing me that my cat had been “found” and less than one hour later, AAH was closed, having proceeded with treatment and released my cat to his abducter, who refused to release him to me unless I paid the $400 bill. Completely unethical behavior.

Experiencia fantástica: I am a senior citizen and didn’t know the right move to make with my older Pomeranian, Bella. Dr. Atchison and his team made me feel like I was with my family. He helped me to see that it was time to help Bella over the rainbow bridge and into Heaven. On every turn not only did they love on my baby but they showed me incredible patience, sympathy and helped do what was so hard. I know there are so many dedicated vets in the Birmingham area. Avondale Animal Hospital is truly a group of angels . God bless them.

The vet went through everything they needed to do for my dog and then everything that could be done for my dog. I really appreciated that, no surprises at checkout. I also thought their pricing was extremely reasonable. They offer drop-off and curbside visits too. I can't wait to take my cats in. I've already recommended AAH to so many people too!

Experiencia negativa: I took my cat here for itching skin problems and anxiety. I left with my cat being even more sick, and Avondale Animal Hospital directing me to other vets because they could not help with what they have caused. They prescribed my cat Gabapentin for his anxiety and wipes for his spots that he was itching. They did not tell me how to administer his liquid medicine orally. When I got home, of course my cat hated it, so of course we had to inject it down his mouth quite fast, because unfortunately we were NOT told to do this. So, now he has close to pneumonia, has constant breathing attacks and sneezing, and when we told Avondale about this, they directed us to an emergency vet. We never received any calls or emails regarding what was incorrectly done or not addressed by Dr. Walker. This is ridiculous, and we will never come back here, and will make sure to NOT recommend this vet to others.

Experiencia fantástica: We love Avondale Animal Hospital so much. My 2 cats are so important to me, and finding a vet to give them the care they need was a challenge. I have an elderly cat with a handful of health problems and a very spicy cat who doesn’t usually do well at the vet, and Dr. G has been so perfect with both of them. I seriously cannot recommend them enough for any cat parents who want to make sure they are getting all necessary preventative care.

Experiencia fantástica: I've only been to Avondale Animal Hospital a few times, but they've gained a customer for life in me. I took my dog there to get a growth on my buddy Max looked at. Of note, Dr. Cobb waived the visitation fee, and even gave me a BOGO on flea and tick medication due to the cost of the sample they took (the cost of the sample wasn't too bad, for what it's worth). The test revealed the growth was a benign tumor, and they fit us in for surgery quickly. I fretted about the price of the surgery, given some prior experiences at other vets, but I walked out the door paying less than $400. I've been to a handful of other vets in Birmingham, but the quality of care and pricing are incomparable to Avondale Animal Hospital. The staff has been so accommodating and friendly every time I've gone, and it's made a lasting impression. Don't bother going anywhere else, because this is the best place to get amazing care for your pets.

Experiencia fantástica: I have absolutely no words to express my gratitude and appreciation to this team! Back story : We adopted our sweet and beautiful cat Rose back in September , she immediately captured our hearts and became a member of our family! In January our vet informed us our precious girl was terminally sick but we could manage symptoms, we did all the things to help our sweet girl including a blood transfusion and daily prednisone. Today 3/22 around 1pm she made a dramatic turn for the worse. I contacted Avondale and without hesitation they offered their support in her care. We took our beautiful girl in knowing it would be her last vet visits. The lady at the front desk was everything we needed , followed by the vet tech and Doctor. They assisted our Beautiful Rose in her transition and I couldn’t have asked for a better group of ladies. We were there after 8pm and they encouraged us to take all the time we needed. They will never know what a blessing they were to our sweet Rose and my family!

Experiencia negativa: My sister took her Lab mix in a couple of weeks ago. He had a swollen cheek and his mouth was draining a bloody, purulent discharge. After the vet examined him, she concluded that it was an abscessed tooth that needed immediate attention by his vet. She said they were not set up to perform extractions, other than that she exclaimed he was healthy. My sister took him to his vet the next day and they discovered that the " bad tooth" was actually a cancerous mass in his cheek . Sadly. my sister had to put Charlie down, because the cost to care for him was too great. They charged my sister over two hundred dollars for a misdiagnosis. I won't ask anyone not to use their services, but I do encourage other fur parents to ask questions...lots of questions. I don't understand how she could have missed that.

Experiencia fantástica: Was very easy to get an appointment the next day. Everyone was friendly and knowledgeable and the environment was clean and smelt great! The nurse and Doc were very caring with my cat and I found the cost quite affordable. I got my 12 year old cat seen for his eye which they gave me drops for and they also gave him a rabies shot all together it was about 75$. We will definitely be going back for a teeth cleaning!

Experiencia negativa: This place is extremely expensive for no reason. They will probably reply to this review with some kind of long winded excuse to justify their thievery. We were quoted over $700 to spay a 15 lb dog. We spayed our 34 lb dog at a different vet for $165. A check up just cost me almost $300, while the same check up & vaccines cost ~ $180 at a different vet. I sincerely hope these grifters go out of business. We will be choosing a different vet.

He’s great at breaking down complicated medical issues, and he’s never rushed us through appointments. He takes his time getting to know both the animals and their people, and I’ve never left the office with an unanswered question. The staff here is great, too. This office has helped me through everything from routine checkups to in-home training sessions to managing degenerative health issues and palliative care. Bottom line is these folks genuinely care about animals, and it shows in everything they do. If you're looking for a vet who'll treat your pets like their own, this is the place to go.

Everyone at Avondale Animal Hospital is an absolute pleasure to interact with! They have always gone above and beyond for my pets on multiple occasions. We had an incident where my dog popped his hip out and was in a lot of pain. Avondale Animal Hospital waited for us to arrive, even though it was just after closing. They were able to let me know that he popped his hip out and gave me pain medication to hold him over until they could fix his hip the next day. Saving us a trip to an emergency vet! They were always able to fit us in last minute for any kind of sick visit. Now having moved 500 miles away, we will miss everyone at Avondale Animal Hospital and the amazing care they have provided for our pets over the years. Thank you!

Experiencia fantástica: When our lovely Abby likely had a stroke, we took her to Avondale Animal Hospital. From the moment we walked in the door, we could feel the compassion. We were put in a nice quit, candlelit room with soft music playing. The Vet tech and Dr. Atchison were both very compassionate. Dr. Atchison provided us several options regarding her care but was honest with us that the prognosis was not good. They were patient and allowed us time to make our decision in private and then time to be with Abby just a bit longer. Prior to this, I had never had to handle this type of situation. Despite the circumstances, I can't imagine a more ideal manner in which, Abby, my wife and I could have been treated. I would recommend anybody to use this practice for their pet care.

They also gave us a cost for each item on the treatment plan prior to starting which is something I personally have never experienced with a veterinary office before. I would highly recommend them!

Experiencia fantástica: We have always gotten great care at Avondale Animal Hospital. The staff is always kind, and the doctors are great. Unfortunately, we just recently had to put our 17 year old cat down, and while it was one of the worst days, I cannot say enough about the compassion of the staff. They were so kind and gentle with us. They allowed us as much time as we needed to say goodbye, and we never felt rushed. I also appreciated how Dr. Atchison assured us that we were doing the right thing and was very transparent that even doing a bunch of testing that would result in a lot of money spent, the end result would be the same. I appreciate that they did not put her and us through all of that just to increase a bill, but they did what was the humane thing for beloved fur baby. Even though we have moved across town, I will always continue to bring pets to Avondale for care.

Experiencia negativa: Don’t go here unless you like to waste your time and money as well as possibly jeopardize your pets life. I have a very sick kitten that has worms and they only gave him a topical medicine which is only really good for prevention. Not only that but the vet assisted had no idea why my kitten with worms was bleeding so bad I’m not a professional and even I know that worms can cause excess bleeding from it being thinner and I over heard them talking crap about me not wanting to clip my kittens nails Side note there was also a dog screaming and crying in the back the whole time and we could hear the poor thing slamming itself into it’s kennel. Super uncomfortable and not a single care about the safety and wellbeing of your pets.

Experiencia negativa: Took my cat in because she had bad diarrhea and vomiting for a week and had been losing weight and had been lethargic and not her normal self. Vet looked at her, insisted she was fine and she was probably stressed. She was clearly not fine and I feel like any vet would have known that. My cat is still having symptoms and she is only getting worse and developing more symptoms (peeing blood, etc). I wish the vet would have been more thorough when examining her so the issue could have actually been caught instead of brushed off as stress. Maybe it was because it was a “free checkup visit” and they only want to put in the time for paying customers (we obviously would have and were expecting to pay for additional tests to be ran). Getting a second opinion ASAP. Go somewhere else if you actually want to be taken seriously and for your pet to be treated.

Experiencia fantástica: The experience at Avondale animal hospital is incredible. We have 4 fur babies so things can get pricey and they always work with us to make sure every one is taken care off, without spending more than necessary. Staff is always friendly and loving, and punctual. We also had to have emergency surgery on one of our pups last year and Dr. Brown was an absolute angel. We truly believe he would not have survived without her attention to detail and support through the days of his emergency. I can’t say enough good things about them. If you are in search of a new vet office, this is your place.

The staff very friendly and accommodating so that is definitely our go to for Kobie’s vaccinations and when we need anything regarding his health and we’ll being! Experiencia negativa: The staff was nice and tried to help but were way wrong. I was told my dog had internal bleeding probably from a tumor, and it was suggested that I go to the emergency vet as soon as possible, which I did. The emergency vet found no bleeding, no tumors, possibly a pinched nerve in her back, which was causing her pain. My dog is now on pain medication for a week and anti-inflammatories. She should be fine.

Experiencia fantástica: Wouldn’t trust anyone else with my pup! My dog literally RUNS inside when we pull up. The receptionists are always so excited to see him & the vets answer all of my questions. Avondale Animal Hospital is the best!!!
