Fantastic experience: Doctor was very upfront and honest with me about hawkins' condition. I wish the one neurologists I saw prior to Dr. Schuler would have, it's been more honest with me. It would have meant my dog being able to walk again. But I do appreciate the time doctor took with halkins and helped me with his wheelchair.

Fantastic experience: We were nervous about taking Nadia to a neurologist for a few reasons but mostly because of cost. Dr. Gainsburg was very caring and excellent with Nadia. He was understanding of what we had already done and been through to address her epileptic seizures and we arrived at a reasonable path forward that will hopefully make all of our lives more pleasant!

Fantastic experience: We brought our 10 year old Yorkie in from a referral after taking her to VEG PET ER for back pain. Dr. Mannix and her team did a phenomenal job accessing our girl and providing a safe and practical treatment plan with pain relief using anti-inflammatory and pain medication. Our family appreciates the care our fur baby received.

Fantastic experience: When my dog had IVDD, no other neurologist would take him despite his condition. They were the only ones that showed heart and compassion. said dont worry just get here we will take him in. Sad to say hes gone...but the staff was very comforting and compassionate, the doctor was straight forward and Understanding and had heart as well. They sent us the paw print we paid for as well as his fur, I was upset about not requesting it but they sent it as well. They also sent in a had signed card from the doctor and staff, they also donated to a shelter on his behalf . I cannot say enough about this practice. they went above and beyond .

Fantastic experience: If I could rate this place higher than 5 stars, I would. Being told that you have to take your pet to a neurologist by an emergency vet is one of the most anxiety inducing experiences. All you hear is Latin medical terms and cash register chimes. The staff here are professionals; handling both your pet’s nerves and yours. Dr. McDonnell saw my Frenchie and was able to give the most solid physical exam and diagnosis I’ve seen in both the animal and human medical field. A master of his profession. This clinic knows what they are doing. No unnecessary testing, procedures and guessing. If you have the unfortunate need to take your pet here, please know that they are truly in the best place for your situation. This clinic cares.

Fantastic experience: Dr Gainsburg was wonderful with our foster pup, Rudy. He was thorough with his assessment and took the time to explain all of our options. Dr Gainsburg gained Rudy’s trust right away and helped him feel comfortable for the duration of the testing. We left the visit with much more information and a clear path forward.

Fantastic experience: I must share this!! As pet owners, we never thought we had to visit an ER to save a sweet Tortie's life. She had an acute onset of a blood clot to her hind leg. Our Vet sent us to PET-ER for Cardiac eval & CT Scan. This place is amazing!! Great service, care, compassion and specialist on-site, We are forever grateful for their expertise and good staff- Many thanks to all!! Expensive but worth it!!

Fantastic experience: Our 5 month old puppy has been seen by Dr. McDonnell and his team twice in the last month. Luca is happy to see them and enjoys the attention and “play time” with Dr. McDonnell. In reality the doctor is examining Luca. As Luca’s pet parents we appreciate the time the doctor spends explaining his recommendations, test results, and progress.

Fantastic experience: Our visit with Dr. Mannix was phenomenal. Jax has been struggling with mobility issues for a while. On his last visit with his Internal Medicine vet, it was recommended that he have a neurological assessment. After his examination, Dr. Mannix recommended that he be seen by an orthopedic surgeon and even managed to get one of the surgeons to take a quick look at Jax. I can't say enough good things about Dr. Mannix. She gives absolutely wonderful care.

Fantastic experience: Sending many thank you’s to the staff at VNIC. I was able to get my pitty seen within a reasonable amount of time for her sudden neuro issue. The technicians were great with the handling of my dog despite her sassy nature, and Dr. Mannix was very thorough and kind. I was completely reassured of my dogs diagnosis and left very satisfied. Fantastic experience: We’ve been going to VNIOC for 3.5 years now for our dog, Chubs. He has a very complicated case of idiopathic epilepsy. Prior to being referred to VNIOC, vets and specialists we saw were unable to help us manage his seizures. Since seeing Dr. McDonnell at VNIOC, Chubs has had a drastic decrease in seizures and is living a normal and happy life. Any time chubs has a seizure, they contact us to check in. Dr. McDonnell himself often gives us a call, when needed, caring about him as if he were his own dog. We’re incredibly grateful for the relief we feel knowing we have such good care management. The support and compassion shown by VNIOC, their front desk staff, their vet techs, and Dr. McDonnell has drastically improved Chub’s and our wellbeing.

I first brought my dog, Tegan, here for a neurology consult, and from day one they were kind, knowledgeable, and communicated clearly with both me and my primary veterinarian. Lat month, when Tegan suddenly began declining, VNIOC was able to fit her in for a consult, MRI, and attempted spinal tap the very same day through Pet ER. Unfortunately, despite everyone's best efforts, Tegan was laid to rest that night. What truly sets this team apart is the compassion they showed afterward. The doctor personally called me with her MRI results and condolences, I received a sympathy card, and they even made a donation to BARCS in Tegan's memory. Fantastic experience: I want to thank Dr McDonnell for reviewing my dogs prior MRI records and taking the time to help co ordinate the follow-up care he needs. My dog was previously diagnosed with discospondylitis (2023) and treated by another neurology practice but they failed to communicate that his recheck MRI didn't show it was 100% resolved which caused him to relapse. I then sought a second opinion at Penn Vet which resulted in him being misdiagnosed and further delay. I felt heard by Dr McDonnell and wish I had contacted him earlier. Thank you

Fantastic experience: I was referred here by a family friend when the vet ER suspected Idiopathic Trigeminal Neuritis. I was a mess due to my boy not being able to eat or drink on his own, and they were able to squeeze him in for an urgent next day appointment. The staff was so kind and accommodating since my boy gets fear aggressive at vets offices, and treated us no differently than anyone else with plenty of reassurance for both me and him. Dr. Mannix was able to get enough confirmation with other tests done and exams excluding other possibilities to pretty confidently say idiopathic Trigeminal neuritis is a strong candidate for his symptoms without bankrupting me with extra tests like an MRI or CT scan. But also provided testing for another likely unrelated issue to try and help me and my boy as much as possible. It was all in all a great experience here and put a lot of my worry at ease for the hard road ahead the next few weeks.

Fantastic experience: Ten months ago, my dog Kingston underwent surgery for IVDD at Veterinary Neurology & Imaging of the Chesapeake with Dr. Mannix and her team. What felt like a terrifying and overwhelming diagnosis turned into a story of healing and hope thanks to their incredible care. Despite how dire things looked, Kingston began (wobbly) walking just two weeks after surgery. With months of rehab, water treadmill therapy, and chiropractic support, he’s now as active as ever, if not more! It’s amazing to see him living fully mobile again, enjoying life with the same joy and energy as before. Facing IVDD is very scary, but I felt I was in the most competent and compassionate hands with Dr. Mannix and her staff. They not only gave Kingston a second chance at mobility but also gave me the reassurance and guidance I needed through the process. I will be forever grateful to Dr. Mannix and everyone at Veterinary Neurology & Imaging of the Chesapeake for giving my fur baby another lease on life. Thank you from the bottom of my heart!

Fantastic experience: First time seeing a Neurologist for our Aussie because of seizures. Couldn't have asked for a better experience. The Vet techs, front office staff, and Dr were all kind and made you feel welcome. I was worried they would want repeat labs already done but they were able to obtain records ahead of time and didn't reorder them. They did their exam and didn't push for CT's and MRI's because they didn't think it was necessary. They have a place to log seizures online, which we did use. We actually received an unexpected call from the Neurologist after we logged one in. Looking forward to our continued care with this practice.

We were able to understand the root cause of our Reggie's seizures which helped understand his quality of life going forward. Unfortunately, Reggie did succumb to one last seizure and is now at peace. However, if it weren't for VNIoC, we wouldn't have understood his condition. Dr. Gainsburg even made a financial donation on behalf of Reggie to the Baltimore Animal Rescue and Care Shelter. Unfortunately, medication did not help control Luna’s epilepsy & I did have to make the heartbreaking decision to put her down, but I cannot thank the VNIOC staff enough for EVERYTHING they have done for us this past year.

Fantastic experience: We found VNIOC when my almost 2 year old austrailian shepherd started having seizures. They got her in pretty quickly to try to figure out what was causing them. Thankfully, there was nothing obvious (brain tumor, etc) and she was diagnosed with idiopathic epilepsy. After a lot of questions (from me), we developed a treatment plan, which has been updated over time (and I still ask lots of questions). It has been a long road. Some years have been better than others, but today Ellie is better than she has been in a long time. It has made a world of difference having a team of people to support our journey, and I'm not sure we would have been successful without them. I highly recommend the expertise of the neuro team at VNIOC for anyone who needs support for their four legged family member.

We live 2.5 hours away and when our Cavachon was unfortunately diagnosed with a severe case of IVDD back in February, VNIOC saw him on a Saturday (yes, we saw the neurologist on the weekend!) and they had him in surgery that following Monday morning. I know without a doubt they saved his life. We are so confident in their expertise. They even accommodated us at a follow up visit on a Monday with our schedules. If you have a pet with any neurological conditions, go to VNIOC!

Fantastic experience: Dr. McDonald has taken wonderful care of our golden retriever Honey for the last 12 years, and has kept her seizures under control. When she was diagnosed, he was wonderful in assuring my wife that Honey's condition was treatable, and wouldn't mean a shorter life. Fantastic experience: We've been seeing Dr. McDonnell and the team at VNIOC since our cat was 11 weeks old when he started having seizures. After so many others told us to consider "options," it was Dr. McDonnell would called and said, "we are going to help and get this under control." Six years later, and our guy is doing well and is considered well controlled. It was trial and error, but Dr. McDonnell and the staff were with us every step of the way. Our dog started having seizures at 6 months and the prognosis did not look good, but VNIOC (and specifically Dr. McDonnell) have controlled his seizures so well. She broke down all of the medical terminology so I could easily understand what she was saying. I brought my dog in from PA (an hour away),and although it did not go the way I'd hoped (she had an MRI where they diagnosed Degenerative Myelopathy) and we had to put her down, Dr Minnix and her team were highly professional and compassionate. My vet in PA recommended them and I definitely second the recommendation!

Fantastic experience: Our dog has canine epilepsy. She is a very difficult case. We have been patients of Dr. McDonnell's for several years. He is wonderful. He has done a great job of balancing the medications required to control her seizures, while maintaining her quality of life. He is always responsive to our needs. I highly recommend him!

Fantastic experience: Dr. McDonnell and his team were our 2nd opinion neurologist team! We are so glad we decided to get a 2nd opinion for our pup that suffers with seizures. We were able to get testing reran and get diagnosed with something less severe than what we were originally told. We got our girl off 1 medication and on to another one. She has made a complete come back to puppyhood!! It's amazing what another set of eyes and medication plan can do. We thought for sure it was her 2 seizure medications turning her into a pup that was 'just existing', when in reality it was a medication not used for seizure control that was doing that to her! What a refreshing thing to have your puppy back from near deaths door on a medication. Dr. McDonnell listened to our concerns, made adjustments that he thought would work and here we are today! We were NOT told that he 'does not care' what another in person our vet team has told us. He did listen to us when he wanted to up a seizure medication and we asked him to please reconsider that as that particular one was causing extreme dry skin on our girl - we did not up that one, but now will be trying to get off of it or lower it, eventually. We added another medication that another person from our vet team said she did not like... we voiced the concern we had on this medication - Dr. McDonnell understood our concerns - he asked us to try it for a few months and then make our own decisions on this medication. Overall the care that our pup has received has been phenomenal. Luna is a noisy little pittie when she gets to the office because she feels she needs all the pets from all the people!! We know this must be so irritating to the team, but, no one ever gets upset with us about it. Thank you Dr. McDonnell and team for all the care for our girl, Luna =)

Fantastic experience: Its not often that I feel compelled to write a review for good reason but this will be the first. Dr. Rivera and the tech Michaela were awesome. Took my four year old Frenchie in for what appeared to be a slipped disc. He was in pain and miserable for the last month. Michaela was calm and in turn made me calm. Dr. Rivera was knowledgeable and educated me, answering all of my questions without frustration (Im sure I asked the same ones one hundred times). Didn't get an MRI on the appt. day but I was ok with that as Dr.Rivera gave me some hope that a medication regimen could help. Praying for a positive outcome, but no matter how it goes, I will return. Michaela, and Dr. Rivera, you ladies rock! .. and Sarah, Never actually saw her but she was pleasant on every call and even sent me a follow up email to check on my pet. Awesome team!

Fantastic experience: UPDATE: 9/3/22. I lost my beloved dog, Toodles, on 9/1/22. I want to let anyone reading this know that my dog lived 1 yr and 3 months past his diagnosis. As mentioned in my initial review my dog was given 2 months at most but was a miracle dog and Dr McDonnell's medicine regime had a lot to do with that too bc he only experienced 1 minor seizure during this time and without the medicine I would have likely never been able to prevent seizures and keep him alive. Dr McDonnell and his wonderful staff treated me and Toodles like family .They patiently listened to me on the phone when I'd call with questions, updates, concerns. They always knew who I was when I called and told me how much everyone loved Toodles. They got me in the next day when they had a cancellation after I called recently with concerns about new clinical signs Toodles was showing. I highly recommend Chesapeake Veterinary of the Neurology. MY REVIEW BELOW IS FROM JUNE OF 2021. Dr. McDonnell and Dr.Pacheco and their staff have been wonderful in caring for my pet, Toodles, a 10 lb min.poodle who has an incurable cancerous brain tumour that the doctors noted above found back around Memorial Day. Toodles had had a very bad seizure that wknd and I raced him to Pet ER of Towson who saved his life. After being in Pet ER for a couple days, I decided to go forward with an MRI and that was when he was transferred to Chesapeake Neurology (located at same place as Pet ER which was really great). Sadly that's when they found the cause of the seizure a cancerous tumor with signs it had spread elsewhere in the brain. Surgery and radiation was not an option. I decided to bring him home with anti seizure meds and prednisone. I was told he could have days, weeks or maybe 2 months. Amazingly, he is still here 5 months later and has not had 1 seizure since being home and at his last follow up appt Dr McDonnell was very happy with how he was doing. I believe Pet ER, Chesapeake Neurology and God are why my pet is still here today. Whenever, I have questions the staff here follow up with me right away and have been so caring. Katie, Sarah, Alexis, Julia just wonderful. Hope I'm not missing anyone. If your pet needs specialist care bring them to this place.

Fantastic experience: On July 14th we brought our 9 year old golden doodle in for an mri. It was discovered that she had a massive brain tumor. The compassion that was shown by the staff and the neurologist was phenomenal. When the decision was made by my wife and I to end Zailey’s life, everyone did everything to make her passing as peaceful as possible. We will be eternally thankful to everyone there.

Negative experience: Took my six year old Cavalier King Charles spaniel there. Dr. McDonnell did two MRIs and surgery to correct her neurological problem. After one month she was experiencing the same symptoms as before the surgery. Dr. McDonnell did two more MRIs but could not figure out why this was happening. She eventually became completely paralyzed & died when she was only 10 years old. I wrote to Dr. McDonnell about all of this. He never replied! My two year old cavalier started experiencing similar symptoms so I took him to long island veterinary specialists. He had surgery and is now eight years old and is fine! I found out the reason why my cavalier that McDonnell operated on had the problems that she did was because he did not do the surgery correctly! Do not take your precious pets to McDonnell! He doesn’t care about the animals it’s all about the money!!

Fantastic experience: The staff at VNIoC inspired nothing but confidence and relief. My dog needed emergency surgery and they got him in the same day, recovered in a couple of weeks. We seriously couldn’t have asked for a better experience.

Fantastic experience: I took Leighann to Veterinary Neurology & Imaging of the Chesapeake on June 29th for a second opinion on the operability of a spinal condition – another neurologist said it was not operable. A genetic test was ordered and the lab said the test was sent to Dr. McDonnell on July the 9th. I called Monday and Tuesday, 7/13, and was repeatedly told the test results had not been received. I called the lab directly to confirm they received blood samples and they told me the test had been completed and results sent to Dr. McDonnell on 7/9. The lab then sent the test results directly to me even though I did not request this. I understand vets are busy people, but not recognizing test results even when they have been sent to your office more than once is troubling. If I had not followed up directly with the lab, I probably would have gone more days with being told they do not have the test results. It is and has been difficult because Leighann has been faithfully by my side as a working dog for over 6 years now and has saved my life twice. She will be forever in my heart. I will move on and continue to look for help with her until her journey on this planet ends.

Fantastic experience: My dachshund hurt his back 10 days ago, and on the recommendation of my family vet, I took him here for a consultation, and a possible MRI. My dog was treated with much love and respect during his consultation, the doctors and attendance there are fantastic!
