Fantastic experience: Vestavia Animal Clinic is Wonderful!! They have been our family vet for over 25 years-they are the most caring, intelligent, kind doctors and associates! Dr. West was Teddy’s, Lucky’s & Fidget’s doctor Dr. Raines & Dr. Murphy are the doctors that saved Sandy & Panda’s lives-each of our dogs lived over 12 years & counting! Bless them! They take care of my son’s dogs too!

Fantastic experience: These amazing people took fantastic care of our dog and cats. The front desk was friendly and extremely helpful. The doctors are knowledgeable, patient, and compassionate. The kennel staff did so amazing with our dog that I wasnt sure if she wanted to leave! Overall, I would recommend this vet to anyone. Good clinics are hard to come by these days, so definitely give them a go!

Negative experience: I’m not giving this clinic a one star because the staff and doctor were extremely friendly and easy to work with, but unfortunately, my Doberman passed away 6 weeks after his TPLO surgery. He developed a staph infection in his knee. After taking him to other hospitals and seeing other doctors, many X-rays and blood work were done, and they determined, the staph infection came from this clinic. He was also prescribed Chloramphenicol, which is really hard on dog’s hearts and it’s toxic to humans along with other pain meds. After over $8000 in total, Jax died from heart failure and I came home to find him dead in his bed. Our family has taken this extremely hard and in terms we were only given an apology and a card two weeks later. I’m not doubting the Doctor’s ability but an advise to everyone, when taking your dogs for surgeries, ask all the necessary questions before taking medication from veterinarians and request to look at the sterile operating room before leaving your pet for surgery.

Fantastic experience: Love this Clinic. Dr. Brad Murphy is one of the most competent veterinarians I’ve ever met. My dog will be hyper as can be until he walks into the room. He seems to have that special knack that animals relate to. That says a lot. When you can put a dog at ease that is hyper as my Alaskan malamute that’s a Special talent. Also, he’s very thorough and answers My questions in a way that I can understand them and is very comfortable to talk to. Last time I was there, I had the pleasure of meeting Dr. Paulson. I think that he’ll fit right in with that Clinic and be a good match. I just wish that their medication’s wasn’t so high. I can understand the vet charges, but the medication’s are out of this world. I rate this Clinic a five Star. And I would be a mess if I didn’t say something about his office staff. The girls upfront are great and I met Molly the other day and she was delightful.

Negative experience: ZERO STARS…. Brought my cat here for an exam and xray after an injury. Saw Colton Paulson. While there they gave my cat too much pain medicine somehow. Vet Paulson did not mention this until the very end of our visit. Informing me that I have to take her to an emergency vet to be monitored for 24 hours. Once i got to said emergency vet the staff informed me that she had overdosed and been brought back to life with narcan which Vestavia Animal Clinic ( Vet Paulson) failed to mention. Again he DID NOT TELL ME that my cat died in their hands and had to be brought back to life. This is not a mistake that should EVER happen. Someone was simply not paying attention. Do not bring your babies here… Might just leave empty handed or have more problems to deal with due to careless mistakes.

They even sent me a picture of my puppy while he was at his last visit. I highly recommend them to anyone and will be using them again. And while I'm at it, they have top level vets too!!

Fantastic experience: We have been using Vestavia Animal Clinic for over 20 years. All the vets are great but we Love Dr. Murphy. We have an elderly dog and he has been awesome taking care of her. I also have another dog and 4 cats and they he treats them all like they are his own. The staff is wonderful and kind. They will always get you in to see someone if the need is urgent. I will never change vet clinics.

Drs Murdock and Murphy have been very kind and thorough with me since I’ve adopted two kittens and previously knew nothing about cats. They are patient and willing to explain things so you can take the best care of your fur baby.

A year ago I lost my cat due to her getting spayed at another vet, so when I brought in my kitty to get spayed a couple weeks ago I walked into the office sobbing bc of that past experience. Reception was so sweet & compassionate & Dr. Murdock called before her spaying to answer any questions & then after to let me know everything went well. They handled a very stressed out pet parent so well & I cannot be more grateful for them!

Fantastic experience: Absolutely amazing vet! I just moved here from Arizona and was unsure on where to go, and I am SO glad that I chose Vestavia Animal Clinic. Dr.Murdock is the one who did my nala baby’s surgery. I was reassured throughout the whole process that she would be okay and I knew that she was in good hands. All of the staff were so amazing and very willing to help in whatever way possible. I used CareCredit through them which was so helpful for me. I definitely recommend going here for any of your animals needs. They will treat them with love and care the whole time! <3 They even gave her a cute onesie!

Fantastic experience: When I moved to the area, I was looking for a kennel that provided the same kind of personal care and attention that I received where I used to live. Vestavia Animal Clinic has done just that. My dog is excited to go in, has no fear, and I can tell by the way they were late to every animal that comes in the place that it is a very solid place. The vet and tech were both wonderful and wonderfully patient with my somewhat temperamental cat. They got us in and out quickly and my Alley cat is feeling much better. The entire staff was wonderful, and Dr. Murdock was both knowledgeable and friendly. He even followed up with a call a week later. I would highly recommend them for your furry companions.

Fantastic experience: Stop shopping around. This is the animal clinic you want to bring your pets to. They have been nothing short of amazing. If you have pets this is the place to go. Other vets missed our dog's IBS that was leaving her so malnourished is was causing seizures and they caught it just from us describing her normal behavior. Dr Murdock spent 45 minutes talking with us while his staff started her medications and even once we were home he called every few days to check her progress. Same thing when we took in an emaciated stray we found covered in burns. Even without pet insurance we were easily able to afford their care. And whenever we have called with questions the techs have been great about either answering immediately or for more tricky questions Dr. Murdock would either hop on or call us back quickly to answer our questions or walk us through something. Honestly I don't think either of our dogs would have survived without their excellent care and even if your budget it tight they find ways to help keep the cost low without skimping on the care

Fantastic experience: We have used Vestavia Animal Clinic for many years because the veterinarians and assistants we have encountered over time have all been kind, professional and efficient. Dr. Raines is currently our veterinarian of choice. As she is a "cat person," as is my wife, she works extremely well with both of our cats, even when Brother's or Gracie's mood at the moment may be foul. She offers a lot of sound advice on the feeding and care of our cats as they age and we appreciate that. We recently met Dr. Ionas and she is also kind, efficient and personable. All the different assistants that have worked with us and our pets have also been very professional and caring towards our pets. That makes a HUGE difference in where we choose to go for our pets' care.

Negative experience: Beware of this Vet. They don't really care about your pet. We have a sick 7 month old cat, I called them on a Saturday and they wouldn't work her in, sent me to Steel City Emergency Care. She was there for two days and they said she was better but now on Monday she is actually worse. I called Vestavia Animal Clinic because they have seen our other pets, explained the situation and asked for their help but again, turned us down because they were "booked" up? I guess clipping dogs toe nails is more important to them, so as I said, they don't really care about your pet. Will never go there again.

Fantastic experience: I have been coming here for almost four years for two of my cats. The staff here is always so welcoming and friendly. They are very patient with my grumpy cat that hates the vet, and provides comfort to my friendly but scared cat. Just recently had a sick cat get treated, and Dr. Murdock was very thorough in explaining his findings and providing a treatment plan. We've also seen Dr. Rains and Dr. Iona in the past, who have both provided the best care for them. I would recommend this place to anyone!

Negative experience: I've been a patron of this establishment for over eight years, entrusting them with the nail clipping and vaccinations for my two chihuahuas. Unfortunately, my recent experiences have led me to reconsider this choice. Since the pandemic, I've observed not only a significant increase in prices (over 50% for nail clipping services) but also a decline in the quality of care. The nail clipping now seems rushed, often leaving sharp edges that pose a risk to my pets. Additionally, there have been concerning reports of incidents where dogs have bitten staff members, which raises questions about the training and safety procedures in place for handling animals, especially larger or more aggressive ones. A new policy requiring an on-the-spot rabies shot for nail clipping services, presumably to address these safety concerns, has been introduced. This, among other issues, has led me to decide to take my business to one of the many other competent clinics in the area. For those considering this clinic, I would recommend exploring other options to ensure the best care for your pets.

Fantastic experience: Absolutely LOVE Vestavia Animal Clinic. We have been taking our babies since 1992. When you love your animals as you love your children you want the best care. VAC is the best!

Fantastic experience: Our 7 yr old husky quickly developed a horrible rash on his back and he was miserable. Dr. Ionas quickly diagnosed him and he completely quit itching and scratching in pain. So grateful for the great treatment from Dr. Ionas.

Fantastic experience: I brought my FIV+ cat here when she had an emergency on a Saturday and I was blown away by how great the whole experience was! I was able to get an appointment immediately and Dr Murdock spent plenty of time explaining what was wrong with her and how we could treat it. He really went above and beyond to make sure we walked out of there in much better shape than when we came in. It was a 30 minute drive for me but it was well worth it. Highly recommend this practice.

Positive experience: Service was excellent the doctor was very informative when letting me know how my little guy did during and after surgery. The reason for the 4 the vet tech or doctor did not call me back to inform me of the update of my dog after he came down fully off the medication like they stated they would. I had to reach out after a few hours of waiting and it was too late to pick him up so he had to stay overnight. The staff was very nice just would say follow up calls needs to be more of a priority.
