Fantastic experience: I've been here on three occasions, with three different dogs. Each time I go here my faith in humanity is restored. They go above and beyond. Kind, compassionate, quality care at a fair price.

Negative experience: I would not refer anyone to MedVet. I took my dog there thinking she might have been having an issue with her diabetes and they told me there were other issues and she could die in two days if I didn't hospitalize her that night. I asked how much that would cost and was told $5,000 per week. I said I didn't have that kind of money and that I would have her regular vet treat her. She (the Vet) told me to euthanize my dog because if I couldn't pay that money I didnt deserve to have a dog! Of course I left with my dog and took her to her own vet and found out that my dog didnt even have the illness MedVets Dr said my dog had! And they kept refusing to check my dogs' sugar level. That was outrageous! And then tell me I didn't deserve to have my dog!

Deborah, we are very sorry to read this. Facing a possible diabetic emergency is frightening, and being told your dog could decline quickly would feel overwhelming for any family.
The language you described does not reflect our standards or our values. Our doctors and team members enter the veterinary profession because they care deeply about pets and the people who love them. Recommendations for hospitalization or advanced care are made when a doctor believes a patient may be at risk, and costs are discussed so families can make informed decisions. Euthanasia is only ever presented when it is believed to be in a patient’s medical best interest to prevent suffering — never as a financial judgment.
Out of respect for privacy, we cannot discuss medical specifics publicly, but we would very much like to review your visit with you. Please call our hospital and ask to speak with a member of our leadership team, or email [email protected] with your contact information and additional details so we can ensure your concerns are carefully reviewed.
We hope your beloved dog is doing well under your family veterinarian’s care, and we appreciate the opportunity to speak with you directly.

Negative experience: I would give 0 stars if I could. My dog has diagnosed CHF, he was showing current symptoms, such as coughing and an episode of fainting earlier in the day. I took him to the ER at medvet thinking they could readjust his medications because his cardiologist is all booked until August.” They were the one who diagnosed him with chf in the first place “ . The doctor said she couldn’t find any records of that visit and therefore couldn’t adjust his med because they didn’t feel comfortable . Get real how do you lose records? they run a quick ultrasound and say there is no fluid accumulation. He clearly has a swollen belly and is having coughing fits so something is wrong. All they did was take his blood pressure , and i asked for extra meds just until I get my shipment in from chewy . I waited for 3 hours just for them to give me meds and take his blood pressure then told me it would be $500. $500 for what? You guys didnt do anything other then keep me waiting for hours and there was only 1 or 2 people in the waiting room. They took my dog back immediately due to his symptoms and still kept us waiting . Also the doctor seemed as if she didn’t know what she was talking about and broke character while trying to discuss options with me . She couldn’t even finish a sentence because she couldn’t stop laughing because my dog was barking at her. It was a complete waste of time and days later my dog is STILL IN DISTRESS. Now I’ll have to take him somewhere else because you guys didn’t do your job in the first place.

Hannah, we understand how frightening it is when a dog with congestive heart failure is showing concerning symptoms. Moments like that are incredibly stressful, and we never take that lightly.
Out of respect for client and patient privacy, we are not able to discuss specific medical records or visit details in a public forum. What we can share is that any recommendations made by our doctors are discussed with pet families, and we do not move forward with services unless they are approved. If there was any misunderstanding about what was recommended or authorized during your visit, we would truly welcome the opportunity to review that with you.
Please call our hospital directly and ask to speak with a member of our leadership team, or email [email protected] with your contact information and any additional details so we can ensure your concerns are carefully reviewed and addressed. We remain fully committed to supporting you and your beloved dog, and we sincerely hope he is more comfortable.

Negative experience: They don’t care about your pet’s health. If vitals are fine, they will by pass you. I understand that life threatening emergency comes first. After waiting over 8 hours two different occasions for my pet bleeding internally, they say pet is stable. Other pets that come in that know the staff, they are taken first. I will never recommend this place ever.

MedVet Pittsburgh
MedVet Pittsburgh

Don, we’re very sorry to hear how frustrating and upsetting this experience felt for you. When you believe your pet may be bleeding internally, the stress and urgency are overwhelming, and waiting in that situation can feel unbearable.
In emergency medicine, patients are triaged based strictly on medical status at that moment. If a pet’s vital signs are stable, they may be categorized differently than a patient who is actively crashing or in immediate life-threatening distress. That does not mean their condition isn’t serious or important — it means our team must continually prioritize those requiring immediate intervention. Pets are never moved ahead in line based on familiarity with our team, and care decisions are based solely on medical need.
We understand how difficult extended wait times can be, especially during repeated visits. If you would like to discuss your experience further, we encourage you to call our hospital and ask to speak with a member of our leadership team or email [email protected] so we can better understand your concerns.

Fantastic experience: My experience as well as my dog’s care has been exceptional. My little guy had diabetic cataracts removed and the staff was available for all my questions and for his care. Dr. Micceri and her staff are caring, thorough and have taken care of my pup with kid gloves. I would highly recommend the ophthalmology department as well as the emergency services.

Dru Sturgess Posted on Google 3 months ago

Positive experience: Basing this off of two experiences - 1. A few weeks ago arrived at 11pm - did not leave until 530am. Sat in bright lights and a rock hard chair with a super stressed out dog for hours on end. At one point I wasn’t spoken to for 3 hours. When I finally spoke to vet at 5am the was good but it did not outweigh the brutal wait experience and communication during that wait. I was told they only have one vet. I get that severe case come in, I truly do but that doesn’t mean you can’t have better communication or let local people go home and come back. 2. A few years ago I took my dog who was close to end of life. I was concerned about her not eating or drinking and her heart murmur. After tests and many hours later I was told to make her comfortable but that she okay had eaten and drank while in their care so I took her home as I saw that as a good sign. When I got her home she refused both, I called to confirm she had actually been given food and drank and they said they made a mistake she had in fact not. A few thousand dollars for bad information and hope that was false.

MedVet Pittsburgh
MedVet Pittsburgh

Dru, we appreciate you taking the time to share your experiences. Emergency veterinary hospitals function very differently than general practice clinics, especially overnight. Care is provided based on a triage system, meaning patients are continually assessed and prioritized according to medical stability and risk. When there is one doctor on duty managing multiple critical or life-threatening cases, timelines can shift quickly and without warning as new emergencies arrive. While that can result in extended wait times, it ensures that the most medically urgent patients receive immediate attention.
Regarding your earlier visit, recommendations about comfort care are based on the full clinical picture at that moment, including exam findings, diagnostics, and observations while the patient is in the hospital. Appetite and hydration can fluctuate in unfamiliar or stressful environments, and medical guidance is always rooted in the information available at the time of evaluation.
We understand that emergency visits are stressful, physically exhausting, and emotionally heavy — particularly when facing end-of-life concerns. The fact that you brought your dog to MedVet shows how deeply you cared and that you wanted thorough evaluation and guidance. If you would like to discuss either visit in more detail, we welcome that conversation. Please call and ask to speak with a member of our leadership team or email [email protected] so we can review your concerns directly.

Breanna, we’re so glad your dog was seen quickly and that our team was able to intervene before surgery became necessary. Situations like that can escalate fast, and we know how scary it is when they swallow something they shouldn’t. Thank you for trusting us during your first visit — we’re grateful everything turned out well.

Yogi Posted on Google 3 months ago

Positive experience: Unfortunately, we’ve had to come here several times for our dog’s needs. Two of our three visits were fine — slow, but we received the care we needed each time and with professionalism and kindness from the staff. However, our most recent experience makes me hope we never have to return. Our dog was bitten in the neck by another dog and was bleeding heavily, so we brought him in to be evaluated and receive stitches. Despite the severity of the bleeding, he was not seen in a timely manner. I understand that cases are prioritized based on medical urgency, and there may have been patients requiring more immediate attention. However, waiting what would have been eight hours from check-in is extremely concerning. We chose to wait in the car to keep him calm and prevent further agitation, arriving around 8 PM. After waiting all night, we eventually went home and only received a call at approximately 4:30 AM saying they were available to see him. While I respect the triage process, it did not feel like his injury was thoroughly assessed at intake to properly determine its severity. In the end, we did not receive treatment here due to the delay — our regular vet was able to mend him instead. It feels like they may be understaffed and should consider the long wait times in their scheduling process.

MedVet Pittsburgh
MedVet Pittsburgh

Yogi, we’re truly sorry you and your dog had to experience such a stressful night. Seeing your dog bleeding heavily from a neck bite is frightening, and making the decision to wait while trying to keep him calm in the car must have been incredibly difficult.
Emergency hospitals operate on a triage system, meaning patients are assessed and prioritized based on the immediacy of life-threatening conditions. Bite wounds can vary widely in severity — some require immediate intervention, while others, once initially assessed and stabilized, may be considered less critical than cases involving respiratory distress, active hemorrhage that cannot be controlled, or other life-threatening emergencies. That said, when wait times extend into many hours, especially overnight, it is understandably concerning and exhausting for families. Clear communication about anticipated wait times and reassessments is essential in those moments.
We’re glad your family veterinarian was able to mend him and that he ultimately received the care he needed. If you would be open to it, we would appreciate the opportunity to review the details of your visit, including the intake assessment and triage process that night. Please call and ask to speak with a member of our leadership team, or email [email protected] with your dog’s name and your contact information so we can look into this further.
You brought your dog to us because you wanted him safe and properly treated during an emergency. We don’t take that trust lightly, and we truly hope he is healing well.

Fantastic experience: Follow up: a 2nd visit this week on my dogs eyes and wanted to thank the doctors and Shannon for their time and effort! It was a good experiene, thorough view inside his eyes. I look forward to our annual visit. Sam 2/20/26 Dr.Danielle Micceri, DVM and technician Kailey and staff were very good. This was a cataract appointment and they gave my bouvier a thorough examination. It was a good experience and the photographs of the eyes were very helpful along with the eye schematic and explanation. See you in a year for followup. Sam Canonsburg

Fantastic experience: We were referred to Dr. Anderson and MedVet in 2024 when our dog, Meryl, showed a tumor on her liver. Dr. Anderson was fantastic in walking us through all our options and taking care of our sweet girl. Thanks to her and the entire oncology team, we got an extra two years with Meryl. They were always available for check ins, phone calls, and last minute appointments. We can never thank her and the entire MedVet team enough! They loved her just as much as we did.

Robbie, thank you so much for sharing Meryl’s story. Hearing that you were given two more precious years with your sweet girl means more than we can say. When families come to us facing a diagnosis like a liver tumor, our oncology team is committed to walking through every option with clarity, compassion, and thoughtful guidance, and we’re so glad you appreciated the time and care that was given to Meryl. Being available for check-ins, calls, and last-minute needs is an important part of supporting both our patients and the people who love them. It was truly an honor to care for Meryl and to be part of those additional years with her. Thank you for trusting our team with someone so deeply loved.

Negative experience: my dog needs an emergency surgery or she’s going to die… i have $5,000 and they said it was $5,500, the receptionist who was an amazing lady and even looked into different options for me, she knew how dire my dogs surgery is. so she asked her supervisor if there was anything they could do and the supervisor left the decision up to the surgeon.. this surgeon who knows how life threatening my dogs case is, who had the option to do it for my budget refused. he would rather let my dog die, than lose $500. i don’t understand how anyone could live with themselves after making a decision like that. if you are not a millionaire, don’t go here because the surgeon would rather see your pets dead than lose money. when i asked the receptionist if he was really willing to let an innocent animal die because of some money, she said yes. he does not care about animals, only himself, and i take peace in knowing that he will one day he will get his karma, and will have to live with the consequences of his actions.

MedVet Pittsburgh
MedVet Pittsburgh

Ashley, we cannot imagine how terrifying and overwhelming that moment must have felt. Being told your dog needs emergency surgery and trying to process everything — emotionally and financially — is incredibly heavy. Anyone who loves their dog would feel the same urgency and fear.
We do need to clarify something important. Surgical estimates in emergency and specialty medicine reflect the full scope of medically necessary care — anesthesia, surgical time, advanced monitoring, hospitalization, medications, equipment, and the team members required to care for a patient before, during, and after surgery. These components are not optional, and they are not arbitrarily set. They are what allow us to perform procedures safely and responsibly.
Our surgeons do not make decisions based on personal financial preference. They undergo years of additional specialty training specifically to save lives in critical situations. The suggestion that a surgeon would choose money over a patient’s life does not reflect who they are or how they practice medicine. Their commitment is to providing care that gives pets the best possible chance of survival with appropriate medical support.
We understand how painful it is when the recommended treatment plan is not financially feasible. When that happens, our teams do explore available options and discuss alternatives when appropriate. However, we cannot perform major surgery without the full resources required to safely support a patient throughout the entire process.
If you would like to speak directly with a member of our leadership team to review the estimate provided, the communication that took place, and the options discussed, we encourage you to call our hospital at 724.717.2273 and ask for leadership. You may also email [email protected] with your contact information so we can ensure your concerns are reviewed thoroughly.
You brought your dog to us because you were fighting for her. That love is clear. While we stand firmly behind our medical team and their integrity, we are sincerely sorry for the distress this situation caused you.

Negative experience: DO NOT GO TO THIS HOSPITAL! Our dog broke his foot yesterday afternoon around 4pm. His poor pinky toe is sticking out sideways, foot swelled up, and he can’t put any weight on it. We got to Med Vet around 4:30pm. We sat for about 30 minutes, and then they did a little vital check on him and offered pain meds, which was great! But that was literally it… FOR 7.5 HOURS! We sat in the waiting room for 5 hours. Kept being told that we were next, just a few more minutes, any moment… finally they took us back to a room.. where we sat for 2.5 more hours!! But boy were they quick to give us an estimate on the price. We finally had enough, and so had our poor baby. He was in pain since the meds wore off. And he was laying on a hard ground. We asked how much longer and they couldn’t give us any indication, just saying that more emergencies came in so we got pushed longer. We ended up asking for pain meds and said we were going home and taking him somewhere else in the morning since it was midnight at this point. The lady gave such an attitude, the level of professionalism was actually funny. They also tried to charge us for an exam and consultation totaling $210 (not including the pain meds)….. charged us this FOR WHAT?! So that was something we had to fight. No idea how this place even stays open!!! Unless your animal is in critical condition….. do not go here!!!! Even then, find somewhere different! Wishing I could give this negative stars!!

MedVet Pittsburgh
MedVet Pittsburgh

Brittany, we can only imagine how stressful and upsetting that evening must have been for you. Seeing your dog in obvious pain and feeling like you were waiting without clear answers is incredibly difficult. You came to us because you wanted relief and help for him, and we never want a family to leave feeling unheard or frustrated.
As an emergency and specialty hospital, we triage patients based on medical urgency. When life-threatening cases arrive, they must be taken immediately, even if other families have been waiting. We understand how hard that can feel — especially when your dog is hurting — and we’re sorry that the changing wait time and communication around it added to your distress. Even when the lobby may not appear busy, our teams are often actively caring for critical patients behind the scenes, which can significantly impact timing.
Regarding the exam charge, when a pet is triaged, vital signs are obtained, pain medication is administered, and a doctor begins assessing the patient, that constitutes the start of a medical evaluation. If you have questions about the specific charges from that visit, that is something our team can review and clarify.
We also want to address your concern about professionalism. Our team enters the veterinary profession because of a deep commitment to animals and the families who love them, and it’s difficult to hear that any interaction felt otherwise. If you would like to discuss your visit further, you may call our hospital at 724.717.2273 and ask to speak with a member of our leadership team. You may also email [email protected] with your review, your contact information, and any additional details so it can be directed appropriately. You brought your dog to us because you wanted the very best for him, and that devotion is clear. We remain committed to caring for pets and supporting the families who trust us during urgent and emotional moments.

MedVet Pittsburgh
MedVet Pittsburgh

Rachel, we’re truly sorry to read how strongly you feel about your experience. We know that when a beloved companion is sick or injured, emotions run high, and fear and frustration can feel overwhelming.
MedVet Pittsburgh is an emergency and specialty hospital, which means our doctors and specialists undergo extensive training and continued years of education to provide comprehensive care around the clock. Our teams are here 24/7 so that critically ill and injured patients can be monitored closely and given every possible chance at recovery. Financial gain is never the motivation behind our recommendations — our focus is always on what a pet medically needs in that moment.
We also understand how difficult it can be when the care plan we recommend is not possible for a family to pursue. In those situations, our team works to discuss alternative options when appropriate or may recommend seeking care at another facility if that better fits a family’s circumstances. Those conversations can be incredibly hard, and we recognize the pain that can come from not being able to move forward with a recommended plan.
Bringing your pet to us shows that you wanted the very best chance for them, and that speaks volumes about your love and commitment. We do believe a conversation could help clarify what was recommended, answer any remaining questions, and allow us to hear your concerns directly. If you are open to that, please call our hospital and ask to speak with a member of our leadership team. You may also email your review, contact information, and any additional details to [email protected], and we will ensure it reaches the appropriate team for follow-up.
We remain committed to caring for pets and supporting the families who love them, even in the most difficult moments.

Negative experience: The surgeon here is only worried about money and could care less about the animals life. Refused to perform emergency surgery on my sisters dog because she only had 5,000 instead of 5500. Couldn’t even offer to do a payment play for the other 500. If you want your animal to live, I suggest going somewhere else, unless you’re rich and have the money because that’s all the surgeon cares about .

MedVet Pittsburgh
MedVet Pittsburgh

Tiffani, we understand how emotional and upsetting situations like this can be, especially when a beloved companion needs emergency surgery. We appreciate you advocating for your sister and her dog and sharing your concerns.
Out of respect for client confidentiality, we are not able to discuss specific details of a pet’s medical care publicly or with anyone other than the pet’s owner or individuals authorized on the account. If your sister would like to speak with us directly, we strongly encourage her to call our hospital at 724.717.2273 and ask to speak with a member of our leadership team. We would be glad to review the care plan, the estimate provided, and the communication that took place so her questions can be addressed thoroughly.
What we can share is that our surgeons and medical teams enter the veterinary profession out of a deep commitment to caring for pets and the people who love them. As an emergency and specialty hospital, our doctors undergo extensive additional education and ongoing training so they can provide advanced, around-the-clock care. Treatment plans and associated costs are based on the medical needs of the patient, and we do not proceed with care without client authorization.
We know that choosing emergency surgery is overwhelming, and bringing a pet to a specialty hospital reflects how much you want the best possible chance for them. If your sister is open to speaking with us, we welcome that conversation so we can ensure her concerns are heard and addressed directly.

Fantastic experience: I called ahead to see if they could deal with an open wound & if they were busy. We were greeted upon entering. Registration was smooth. My only suggestion would be to have a hook there, at the desk, that a leash could be wrapped around. Juggling my dog’s record folder, purse, & a dog was a bit much. But overall, impressed with cleanliness & direction signage. We were in, stapled, discharged, relatively quick & efficient. They sent the record of the visit to my regular vet. Also, followed up with a phone call to make sure she was doing ok. We’ll return for our emergency needs, if needed.

MedVet Pittsburgh
MedVet Pittsburgh

Kristin, thank you so much for your thoughtful feedback and for sharing your experience. We’re glad to hear registration felt smooth and that your dog received efficient, attentive care — and we truly appreciate you taking the time to offer a suggestion.
We absolutely understand how challenging it can be juggling a leash, paperwork, and personal items at the front desk. Please don’t hesitate to ask for assistance if that ever happens again — our team is always happy to step out and help so you can feel supported from the moment you walk in.
While leash hooks may work for some clinics, they can create issues with leashes not remaining secure and pets becoming loose. Because safety is our highest priority, especially in a busy emergency environment, that’s something we simply can’t risk.
We’re grateful for your understanding and for trusting us with your dog’s care.

Negative experience: All about the money at this place. 2 trips with my sick dog, x-rays, bloodwork, ultrasound as this was what they suggested, and she got a "clean bill of health." Gastritis was the diagnosis and she was sent home with probiotics. A week later and she's worse. After calling to talk to the doctor to try and brainstorm what it could possibly be since all the tests they wanted to perform came back great, and she wouldn't talk over the phone and wanted us to bring her back up for another diagnosis (which is an hour drive each way and she's having the same exact symptoms.) So almost $3,000 later and we are still at square 1. I'm not a doctor and I'm literally just looking to get my dog healthy again, but this place is just a racket. I'm not going to even get into the wait time there even with an appointment. I had to drop her off before 9 for the ultrasound and I was told not to go home because it wouldn't take long as they said they didn't have much going on that morning. 4 hours later I had to ask what was going on with her, seeing other patients come and go, 1 lady came in after me and her cat had an ultrasound lickity split. Don't know where to go from here but I'll be taking her to a different hospital.

MedVet Pittsburgh
MedVet Pittsburgh

Jeff, we can hear how frustrating and discouraging this experience has been, especially after multiple visits and still not having the answers you were hoping for. When a beloved companion isn’t improving, that uncertainty weighs heavily. As an emergency and specialty hospital, our focus is first on identifying and ruling out life-threatening conditions and then stabilizing our patients while working through possible causes. Even when diagnostics such as bloodwork, imaging, and ultrasound come back within normal limits, that information is still important—it helps narrow possibilities and guide next steps—but we understand how discouraging it can feel when your dog isn’t better yet.
We also want to acknowledge your concerns about wait times. In our hospital, some patients are seen based on medical urgency, while others may be scheduled specialty consultations or procedures. We’re truly sorry if seeing others brought back ahead of you made you feel your dog was not a priority, and we can absolutely understand how frustrating that would be—especially after being told it might not take long. Clear communication in those moments matters.
Our team never wants finances or repeat visits to feel like the goal. The doctors and team members here entered the veterinary profession because of their commitment to pets and the people who love them. We would genuinely welcome the opportunity to review your dog’s records with you and talk through what was found, what was ruled out, and what options may still be available. Please consider calling and asking to speak with a member of our leadership team, or email your review along with your contact information to [email protected] so we can ensure your concerns are addressed directly. Most importantly, we hope your dog finds relief and healing very soon.

Positive experience: They took what could have been a very serious issue with my dog and made it as easy as possible. Price seemed to be about $150 less than what I have paid for similar services at another vet, but of course still expensive as expected. Almost everyone I encountered working there was incredibly kind to me and my baby.

Fantastic experience: Dr. Jacob Leslie was wonderful. He was exceedingly thorough and spent a lot of time with us explaining the details of our dog’s pancreatic tumor. (Dr. Leslie is technically a neurologist, but demonstrated a ton of knowledge about our dog’s pancreatic and intestinal disorder.) MedVet was able to see us the day after we were referred to them by our regular vet whereas the other gigantic specialty vet outfit in the Pittsburgh area was going to make us wait for three weeks by which time our dog would’ve either passed or been so ill that it would have been a full-blown crisis.) We were thankful for the promptness and also for Dr. Leslie‘s thoroughness and willingness to spend extra time explaining our options.

Bill, thank you for sharing such thoughtful feedback. We’re glad our team was able to see your dog quickly and provide the time, attention, and thorough explanation you deserved during such a complex situation. Taking the time to walk pet families through findings and options is an important part of what we do, especially when decisions feel urgent and overwhelming. We truly appreciate your trust and are grateful we could be there when timely care mattered most.

Fantastic experience: The team at MedVet who cared for my dog when he had a ruptured disc was stellar. Especially Dr. Leslie who went above and beyond to explain the situation, options, and care instructions on depth and made sure we understood even after we asked a billion questions. He got the surgery he needed next day and was home the morning after. Thank you to all the team who helped our Blue!

Negative experience: Got there at 6pm. Its 10 pm and we still haven't been scene. Just forcing a cat to sit in a carrier for 4 hours is inhumane if ask me. Ive had other vet emergency and never had to wait this long. Will not be returning.somehow vomit and diarrhea isn't a priority to be seen.

MedVet Pittsburgh
MedVet Pittsburgh

Beyleigh, we’re sorry for the frustration and concern you experienced during your visit. We understand how stressful it is to wait while your cat is uncomfortable, and we agree that no one wants their pet to feel unwell for any length of time. Our emergency hospitals operate using a triage-based system, which means patients are prioritized based on the severity of their condition rather than arrival time. While vomiting and diarrhea can be urgent, more critical or life-threatening situations may require immediate attention, which can unfortunately lead to long wait times. We appreciate you sharing your feedback and are reviewing it with our team to continue improving our communication and support for pet families.

Missy Posted on Google 4 months ago

Negative experience: I truly wish I could leave a 0 star review. This is by far the worst emergency vet. My family dog was brought there for pooping blood. They couldn’t have cared less. After two+ hours of waiting they decided to tell us we need to go outside to wait because it “sounded like Parvo”. It didn’t, they just didn’t take a single second with us to ask about any additional issues or symptoms. (Mind you, we took a stool sample. They didn’t take it nor want to test it. Which would have ruled Parvo out in minutes.) It was absolutely unprofessional to worry a family with this awful diagnosis, when you took zero time to actually triage the patient. After waiting about 20 minutes in the car, we decided we were putting our dog more at risk by sitting and waiting to be seen at a dirty hospital with staff who truly couldn’t have cared less. As I’m typing this, less than twenty four hours after visiting MedVet, my dog is being taken into emergency surgery because of internal bleeding and her bladder/intestines overlapping. Thank god we went to PVSEC; Blue Pearl North, or I don’t believe my dog would be okay. Please, save yourself the worry and your pet the trauma. Do not visit MedVet.

Missy, we’re very sorry to hear how distressing this experience was for you and your family. We do not discuss patient or client information on public forums in order to protect the privacy of those we serve, and your review does not include enough identifiable information for us to investigate the situation directly. If you would like us to look into this further or have a conversation about your experience and the reasoning behind our medical protocols, we encourage you to call us directly and ask to speak with a member of our leadership team.

Fantastic experience: MedVet Pittsburgh (McMurray) was a pivotal part of our dog Miles’ life, and Dr. Christine Anderson’s care changed the course of it. In 2021, Miles was diagnosed with mast cell tumors at a time when we were in the middle of a major transition and urgently searching for the best option for him. Through research we learned about Stelfonta (tigilanol tiglate), which was still a relatively new treatment in the U.S. at the time. We found Dr. Anderson at MedVet and made the trip from West Virginia because we needed an oncologist who could evaluate Miles thoroughly, communicate in facts, and build a plan based on evidence — not guesswork. From our first consultation, the difference was clear: Dr. Anderson was exceptionally prepared, calm, and direct, and she took the time to answer every question without rushing. Miles underwent Stelfonta treatment under her care, with detailed guidance and follow-through, and that decision gave him four additional years of good quality life — time we will always be grateful for. In 2025, when Miles was later diagnosed with osteosarcoma, Dr. Anderson again brought clarity and steady professionalism to an unbearable situation. Her guidance helped us prioritize Miles’ comfort and dignity, and to “let him be a dog” for as long as he could be. That perspective mattered more than we can express. We are devastated by our loss, but deeply grateful for the expertise and humanity we experienced at MedVet — from Dr. Anderson to the oncology team and staff. If you are facing cancer with your dog and need specialty care grounded in science, honesty, and compassion, we wholeheartedly recommend MedVet Pittsburgh. For families facing a mast cell tumor diagnosis, there are options — and expertise matters.

Dan, thank you for sharing Miles’ story and for trusting us with his care over so many meaningful years. We’re honored to hear how our oncology team helped bring clarity, evidence-based guidance, and steady support during such pivotal moments—from exploring treatment options early on to prioritizing comfort and dignity later. Knowing that Miles enjoyed additional years of good quality life and that you felt informed, unhurried, and supported throughout the journey means more to us than we can say. We’re deeply sorry for your loss, and we’re grateful to have walked alongside you and Miles with compassion, honesty, and respect for what mattered most to your family.

Negative experience: We had to bring our chocolate lab here because our family vet wasn’t able to see him. The lady at the front desk that checked us in was very helpful, kind and thorough-making the check in process very easy, while we were very uneasy about our pup. We waited about 30 minutes and were then taken to a room and waited for the doctor. The doctor came in and immediately sat and asked us questions on our dogs’ medical history, medications, etc. She never once talked to him, pet him or showed any type of care or concern. Instead it seemed as if she was reading out of a text book and seemed to get annoyed when we gave answers to her questions. When we asked her questions about our dog and his condition, we got the text book answer. When your dog is not just your pet but a part of your family and one of your kids-having to take them to an emergency vet hospital is extremely emotional and scarey. In this circumstance you are looking for ease and comfort from the doctor, not to feel like just a number. The experience with this vet was very off putting and not a good feeling to have. A little consolation and empathy would have made the world of a difference. Why would you want to be a vet if you treat patients and the family like a number with no grace or tenderness. Although this may be a great establishment, this particular vet didn’t give us a good feeling and we walked out with our pup very upset. I truly hope that she doesn’t treat everyone this way and can learn how to talk with the animals families and not talk at them. I am guessing that she is very new to this aspect of her career and can hopefully learn the gifts of care, concern and kindness.

MedVet Pittsburgh
MedVet Pittsburgh

Dave and Gwen, we can hear how upsetting and disappointing this experience felt, especially when you were already anxious about your beloved Chocolate Lab and needed reassurance during such an emotional moment. We know that when a treasured companion is unwell, families are not only looking for medical expertise but also compassion, presence, and kindness for someone who is truly part of the family. Our doctors and team members enter the veterinary profession because they deeply care about animals and the people who love them, and while medical visits often require thorough history-taking and focused discussion to ensure the right decisions are made, we never want a family to feel overlooked, unheard, or like just a number. We’re saddened to hear that this interaction did not reflect the level of empathy and connection you were hoping for, as trust and comfort are incredibly important to us. If you’re open to it, we would welcome the opportunity to speak with you directly, listen more fully to your concerns, and better understand what occurred so we can address it thoughtfully—please feel free to call and ask to speak with a member of our leadership team or email [email protected] with your contact information. Thank you for sharing your experience, and we truly hope your cherished Lab is doing well.

Negative experience: I am completely shocked they had any 5 star reviews. They had to have offered people discounts for a five star review or something. I’ve been sitting here on a Saturday night from 11pm until now, which is 3am, and still have not been seen. There’s a guy across from me who’s been here 30 minutes longer and his dog got ran over by a car. He also has not been seen. That is insane! Another woman has been here 8 hours and counting. After 3 hours of hearing nothing, the woman at the front said they’re discharging everyone in the back now and it should be a few minutes. 45 minutes later, a different woman came out and said they’re going to start taking the animals in the order that we all came in. Of course this was after numerous people passed us up and passed up the dog that was literally run over by a car. Not sure if they’re just incompetent, lazy or just severely understaffed. I haven’t figured that one out yet… Update: I finally got in to see them and they took an xray but couldn’t tell me what was wrong for sure so they wanted me to put her on fluids for about 10 hours and then they wanted to take another xray to see if things were moving along normally or if they needed to have surgery. They brought their quote in with a low end and a high end. Not sure why there’s a quote for an xray and fluids?? I could see if she needed extra fluids but the pricing made no sense at all. The range was from $2,700-$3,900 (roughly). $3,900 for fluids and 2 xray images? Ripoff. Not worth it. I told them no and that I could call my normal vets emergency line and it would be cheaper and I just wanted to pay for what was done so far and that came out to about $485. 6 hours and $485 is what I spent to get no answers to what was wrong with my dog. True 1 star experience. They’re just taking advantage of people in a desperate situation. Look elsewhere… maybe even for the 24 hour clinic in Washington that is more affordable and has better reviews and ratings.

MedVet Pittsburgh
MedVet Pittsburgh

Brian, we know how stressful and emotionally taxing it can be to make medical decisions for your dog during a long and exhausting emergency visit, and we’re sorry this experience left you feeling uncertain and without the confidence you deserved. Our team’s intent is always to walk pet families through findings, outline recommended care plans, and explain why certain diagnostics or monitoring may be advised so families can make informed decisions during very difficult moments. Because it sounds like there are lingering questions about the care plan that was discussed, we would truly welcome the opportunity to speak with you directly, review those recommendations in more detail, and answer any questions you may have. Trust means everything to us, and we believe a conversation can help address concerns, provide clarity, and support you in feeling more confident about the information that was shared; if you’re open to it, please call and ask to speak with a member of our leadership team or email [email protected] with your review, your contact information, and any additional details so we can follow up with you personally.

DagnyN Posted on Google 4 months ago

Negative experience: My 15 year old was taken there yesterday. From the start, no one introduced themselves. My husband waited in the room an exorbitantly long time. And in the end, we declined extra testing only to be guilty tripped on the way out because in their professional opinion he should be put down. Really? Without doing any extra tests, you suggested to kill my beloved pet. Not good, or professional. I am very disappointed in the lack of compassion and for the guilt trip you all gave my husband. I work in death care, and this is not the way you handle a grieving family.

MedVet Pittsburgh
MedVet Pittsburgh

Dagny, thank you for taking the time to share your perspective. We are truly sorry for how upsetting and distressing this experience felt for your family, especially during such an emotionally difficult time. Conversations around quality of life and end-of-life care are never taken lightly, and our doctors’ role is to share medical concerns and options based on the information available at the time, even when additional diagnostics are declined. That said, those discussions should always be handled with clarity, respect, and compassion, and we’re concerned to hear that this did not come across that way for your husband. Because we do not have identifying details in this review, we are unable to look into the specifics of this visit, but we would appreciate the opportunity to better understand what occurred and address your concerns directly. If you are open to doing so, please call us and ask to speak with a member of our leadership team, or email this review along with any additional details and your preferred contact information to [email protected] so it can be directed to the appropriate parties. We recognize how deeply pets are loved members of the family, and we never want anyone to leave feeling unheard or unsupported.

Fantastic experience: While the beginning of the year wasn't to kind to us, I have to thank the team at MetVet for saving my 4 year old kitty's life... I brought my boy in the first week of January with a urinary blockage and when I was told it was a life threatening condition. I couldn't fathom saying good bye to my buddy at such a young age. The price for the services were definitely way more than I wanted to pay and was hoping there would be wiggle room for the final bill but unfortunately there wasn't. At the end of the day, it wasn't worth saying good bye to my furry friend. He has been at home for more than a week after his initial visit and is happier and healthier than he has ever been. Thank you to the team at MedVet for taking such great care of Lucy. While I am hoping to not have to return for such urgent and stressful reasons, I'd definitely recommend this establishment for your pets emergency care!

Fantastic experience: Don't let the bad reviews keep you from coming in. I nervous of them, but desperate. I thought my male cat had a blockage. They listened and immediately took him back to be seen. They were all so kind. They understood the concerns of price and explained my options and why. I took every precaution they offered and it was so reasonably priced I had to fight back tears of relief seeing the estimate. My boy is okay. And a game plan moving forward. Very grateful for medvet today.

Fantastic experience: We had to bring our German shepherd Jethro through the emergency room. These people were so compassionate and took our dog in right away. The doctors saved his life that night and gave me a full day to say goodbye to my bestfriend my soul/velcro dog. They did everything they could for him but unfortunately I had to bring him back the next day to let him go. They placed us in a room that didn't feel like a hospital, and gave us all the time we needed to say our goodbyes. When we were ready the doctor came back in and explained everything to us and assured us he would not feel any pain. Afterwards she allowed us more time with him. The hardest decision I've ever had to make. I would most definitely use them again for any emergency or for end of life. They truly show how much they care and it doesn't come off as fake. It feels real and understanding. Thank you all for the fast care you gave Jethro. And thank you for making it as comfortable for us to say goodbye. Fantastic experience: We had to lay our 15.5 year old bulldog to rest last night and it was devastating to say the least. However, the staff at Med Vet were phenomenal. Their kindness and compassion was just what we needed at the time. The veterinarian who saw us in the morning at 7 AM was still there at night (well after 7) to be there with us and see our dog’s care through. Dr. Snow was called in, and called us at 12:45 am right before surgery. She called us again a little after 2:00 am saying it was successful. she called again at 10:00 am saying we could pick him up that day. he is 4 days post GDV surgery and acting like his normal self. i cannot thank medvet enough. every vet tech was so sweet with maverick, even the front desk workers were so sweet. we can’t thank them enough!

Negative experience: Well, took my cat in because she was struggling to use her litter box, I was there for 12 HOURS, I understand there was 4 emergencies thst needed to be taken care of, but there were people who came in after me, got seen and left before me...(non emergency appts) there is absolutely no reason why I was there for 12 hours....and the cost, $700....you better bring a pillow and blanket and credit card if you are going there...it's sad that it's the only company that does this, there is no competition...the Washington hospital stopped 24 hour service and is only open sun-wed from 9-7....only go to med express, if it's a life threating emergency....

Mike, we understand how stressful it is to be worried about your cat for such a long period of time, and we’re sorry this felt like such a difficult experience. In an emergency hospital, pets are seen based on medical priority rather than arrival time, which means families can sometimes experience extended waits when our team is providing life-saving care to more critical patients. That said, it’s important to us that every family feels informed and supported while they wait. If you feel the communication you received did not reflect that, we’d encourage you to call and ask to speak with a member of our leadership team so we can review your visit with you directly. We’re glad your cat was able to be evaluated, and we appreciate you taking the time to share your concerns with us.

Negative experience: Worst care imaginable. My dog had chocolate poisoning after accidentally eating an entire jar of Nutella at home. Upon arrival at Med Vet at 5:45 AM- my dog continued to vomit and have severe diarrhea in the waiting room. She was in a great deal of pain and discomfort. After waiting for nearly 2 hours, we left and were provided with the quality care my dog deserved upon arrival at a neighboring 24 facility. Poison control stated she needed fluids and anti-nausea medicine asap. I informed MedVet of this info and my case number and I was told there were too many other animals being cared for and my dog was not a priority. Mind you, I was the only person there from 5:45-8:00 AM in the waiting room and my car was the only one in the parking lot. I also witnessed the staff “playing on their cellphones” in plain sight as I waiting for the care my dog deserved. In addition, the heat was turned off in the waiting room and I asked politely to turn in on as we were freezing and was told no because the heat isn’t regulated and it gets too hot in the back for the staff. Very sad; do better. I will NEVER visit this facility ever again.

Kelly, we’re very sorry to hear how stressful this situation felt for you and your dog. Chocolate ingestion can be frightening, and we understand how urgent it feels when a pet is sick and uncomfortable.
Our hospital operates with a full team of highly trained veterinary professionals who are providing care throughout the building, not only in the waiting area. Even when the lobby looks quiet, our team is actively treating hospitalized patients and triaging new arrivals based on the seriousness of each pet’s medical needs. This means that a pet who is stable, even when they’re uncomfortable or vomiting, may wait while our team is focused on life-threatening emergencies behind the scenes. We recognize that this can be difficult, and we’re sorry if the triage process was not clearly communicated during your visit.
We do want to assure you that our team is dedicated, attentive, and focused on patient care at all times. The behavior you described does not reflect the standards we uphold, and we will be reviewing your concerns. Regarding the temperature in the waiting area, our building’s climate system balances the needs of patients throughout the hospital, including those receiving intensive care, and we apologize if the environment felt uncomfortable during your time with us.
We truly hope your dog is recovering well after receiving care. If you would like to speak further or have us look more closely into your visit, please feel welcome to call and ask to speak with a member of our leadership team so we can support you and your pet.

Negative experience: I arrived at 5:30 pm and didn’t get out till 8:00 am. They only had 1 vet on duty and they kept my cat in the back saying they gave him some pain meds and he was doing fine but they were not able to get his vital as he would hiss an bite them as his leg was hurt. At 3:00 in the morning they were finally able to get to him. I asked them to take a xray to make sure his leg wasn’t broken being they said they couldn’t touch him. They said it could take 40 min or more to knock him out, which I thought was very strange. All in all I was very unhappy in the way I was treated put off all night and was the last one out. If they planed on all of the other emergency vets to take turns in being open for the week they need to have more vets in to take Care of the over flow. It was not fare to the customer or the vet on had. I know she did her best to help everyone but was overwhelmed.

Bonnie, we’re truly sorry for how long and stressful this visit felt. We understand how difficult it is to wait when your cat is hurting, and we appreciate you sharing your concerns. Our hospital operates with a full team of highly skilled and trained veterinary professionals providing life-saving care 24/7. In emergency medicine, we must prioritize pets based on the severity of their condition, and some companions need immediate intervention, which can extend wait times for others. Please know this never means your cat wasn’t a priority for us.
When a pet is painful or defensive, our team may need to wait until it’s safe to complete certain evaluations, or recommend sedation if it’s the safest way to assess them — always with the owner’s approval. These decisions are made carefully with your pet’s wellbeing at the center.
Our team entered the veterinary profession out of a deep love for animals and the families who cherish them, and we never want anyone to feel overlooked or unsupported. We hope your cat is resting more comfortably, and if you’d like to talk through your visit, we welcome you to call and speak with a member of our leadership team. We remain committed to supporting you both.

Negative experience: Wait time was inexcusable. 10 hours and they didn’t even really look at my pet. Gave him a pain injection and suggested euthanasia. If they’d have done bloodwork they would’ve found the raging UTI he had.

MedVet Pittsburgh
MedVet Pittsburgh

Lisa, we’re truly sorry to hear how upsetting this experience felt for you and your companion. Long waits can be incredibly difficult, and we understand how stressful it is when your pet is hurting. In our emergency hospital, our team must prioritize the most critical patients first, which can extend wait times for pets who are stable but still uncomfortable. This never means your pet wasn’t a priority to us. Regarding diagnostics, our doctors only proceed with testing and treatment options that are discussed with and approved by each client. We would never recommend euthanasia unless we believed, based on the information available at the time, that a pet’s quality of life was severely compromised. Since we do not discuss patient or client details on public forums, we encourage you to call us directly so we can review your concerns, answer your questions, and support you however we can. We're here for you and your pet.

Fantastic experience: We rushed our 5 month old kitten to MedVet after she experienced a focal seizure. It was about ten til midnight and a few others were in the lobby. The front desk girl was extremely nice and Lorelei was taken quickly to triage to have her vitals checked. From there we waited nearly 6 hours. It was rough for both us and her as she continued to have episodes in her carrier. But we understood there were several other life-threatening emergencies happening. We were seen by the vet around 6am and the care was wonderful. They apologized several times for the long wait but were sure to take their time with her. Within about an hour we were able to leave with several medications for Lorelei and she is on the mend. We’re very thankful for the staff at MedVet!

Fantastic experience: We are so grateful for the entire team at MedVet. From the moment we arrived around 5 a.m., everyone was incredibly kind, professional, and compassionate. They did such a great job explaining everything to us step by step, keeping us at ease during a really stressful time as our 13-year-old pup underwent surgery to remove a liver mass. Their communication and follow-up were great. They kept us informed through every update and made sure we understood what was happening as they discovered more. Now that she’s home and on day two of recovery, we can hardly believe how well she’s doing. We’re beyond thankful for the care and compassion MedVet showed throughout this process and for giving us more precious time with our girl.

Fantastic experience: We took our furbaby Bristol here because she wasn't walking well and eating very little. She had swelling that appeared over night on her face and neck. Once there they took information. We waited. Then took her back for triage. Waited a little more then seen the doctor. We didn't receive good news it was lymphoma. The doctor gave us options. She didn't make us feel bad the option we chose. We are elderly and on a fixed income. We chose palliative care for her. We got meds to keep her comfortable and to keep her going for a little longer. We have no idea how long she has but I'm greatful for the caring staff and doctor there

Emily, we’re truly sorry your visit left you feeling this way. We understand how difficult it is to see your pet uncomfortable and to face a long wait in the middle of the night. Please know that every care plan we create is based on your pet’s individual signalment—that is, their age, breed, gender, and symptoms—and is always designed with one goal in mind: to help them feel better and get back home to you as soon as possible.
We want to assure you that our recommendations are never made with financial gain in mind. We believe in full transparency, which includes providing multiple care options so you can make informed decisions about potential diagnostics, hospitalization, and treatment. While most clients appreciate this open approach, we’re sorry if it came across differently to you. Our team works tirelessly to exceed expectations, and we’re saddened that your impression of us does not reflect the care and integrity we bring to every patient and family we serve.
We truly hope your dog is feeling better, and we’d be happy to go over your pet’s care plan or answer any questions that may help provide clarity. If you'd like to speak further, please call and ask for a member of our leadership team, or email [email protected] with your contact information and any additional details. We are here to help.

Negative experience: brought my dog to MedVet on Sunday night, 11/9/2025, for an emergency visit — and it was one of the most frustrating and upsetting experiences I’ve ever had at a veterinary hospital. First, they didn’t even have my dog’s name correct when we were checked in. Then, when we were placed in a room, the ER doctor came in and made it known she’s using AI on her iPad, stating that “AI is “doing her notes”. Before even asking why I brought my dog in, she jumped straight to saying that my dog had heart failure and “only months to live.” I tried to explain that it could also be pneumonia, and that based on how the symptoms started, it sounded like aspiration pneumonia. She brushed that off, saying it was “low on her list.” It seemed like the diagnosis was made by her AI tool before any real discussion took place. To make matters worse, she added false information to my dog’s record, claiming he had a “history of heart murmur,” which I never said and is not true. Because of this misinformation and premature conclusion, we were sent to another hospital (BluePearl North) under the assumption that my dog was in heart failure. That incorrect diagnosis led to days of unnecessary heart treatment and delay in proper pneumonia care. It wasn’t until day three of hospitalization that my dog finally received bronchodilators and appropriate pneumonia medication — and he began improving. I am extremely disappointed that this ER doctor didn’t take the time to interview me properly or listen to my concerns. She showed no bedside manner, and I truly feel my dog was misdiagnosed because of a lack of basic communication and overreliance on AI. If you want your pet to be treated with real attention and empathy — not by someone who lets a computer make assumptions — I would strongly advise caution before coming here.

Fantastic experience: This Veterinary ER is absolutely fantastic. They have very kind, caring staff who are helpful, patient, and extremely gracious during a tough time for you. Every single person here was fantastic to me, and every other person being seen there. They provided multiple updates (proactively, without being asked) both to notify us of what was happening and even to ask if we needed drinks while in an exam room. Dr. Amber Hutchinson was the Doctor we spoke with, and she was also extremely knowledgeable and kind; and another woman named Katherine helped us in the waiting room alot, and she went above and beyond in care and in helping us understand what was happening. The wait wasn't bad, especially considering it was a busy Saturday, most places were closed, and we walked in mid-afternoon with an emergency. The price wasn't bad (comparing to other places-the prices of everything are bad right now but the costs here seemed average, and they kindly helped us look into carecredit and charged us as little as possible). All in all this was an absolutely fantastic visit, and I cannot recommend MedVet enough. They made a very hard time very manageable, and I truly dont have a single complaint. Thank you to all of the people here for your grace, skill, and care. I hope you all know how appreciated it is, and how amazing you are.

Negative experience: Wish I would have read the reviews first. What they did to my dog was cruel. Horrible experience, my dog cried in pain for 6 hours waiting to be seen by a Dr. They kept putting other dogs in front of him even though most cases were the same severity as him. After 6 hrs & nobody checking on him, we left & took him to another emergency vet facility. If you care about your pet, don’t come here!

Brandy, we’re truly sorry to hear that your experience left you feeling this way. Our team of dedicated veterinary professionals works around the clock to ensure every patient is treated with compassion and care. We never want our patients or their families to be uncomfortable, and it is never something we take lightly. In some situations, it may be necessary to briefly withhold pain medication in order to properly evaluate and localize the source of discomfort—but please know this is a general explanation, not specific to your pet, as we do not discuss individual patient information publicly. We understand how upsetting it is to see a beloved companion in distress, and in our emergency setting, patients are prioritized based on the severity of their condition. This means more stable patients may need to wait longer while our team addresses life-threatening emergencies. If you’d like us to review your visit or help answer any questions, please call and ask to speak with a member of our leadership team or email [email protected] with your contact information and details. Fantastic experience: I would give them 100 stars if possible. I took my baby girl in on September 10th for a nosebleed. While we were waiting, they brought her a blanket to lay on. This was the start of a five-night ICU stay, during which she received a blood transfusion from a staff member’s dog. I was able to take her home for a few days, then had to bring her back for what would be a six-night ICU stay. I visited every day, and each day I was greeted warmly—just as I was when I called. While there, I was treated like the only customer that mattered, and Stevie was treated like the only patient. They spent hours with me, making sure all my questions were answered, and when I cried, they simply let me—they never tried to rush my emotions or my decisions on any of her medical options. The staff was always direct and honest, but beyond that, they did every single thing possible to save her. I’ll never forget when one of the vets said, “If Stevie is going to keep fighting, then so are we.” They truly loved her. Sadly, all of our efforts—and Stevie’s fight—couldn’t save her. But I was able to take her home for a few days to be comfortable in the place she loved. When the time came to say goodbye, I took her back to the place that fought for her; it only seemed right that they got to say goodbye too. My beautiful, loving baby girl passed peacefully at MedVet on September 28th. Every single person treated us with such respect and warmth during those weeks and during the goodbye. Stevie was loved while she was there—and so was I. I visited daily, carrying bags of toys, blankets, and treats—whatever I could think of to remind her of home—and the staff never judged me once. Thank you for trying your hardest to save my girl and for never giving up on her—or on me. While I wish she could have lived longer than her 5½ years, I’m thankful for the time I had with her and that I have no regrets knowing we tried everything. Thank you times a million billion. Now, for the reviews that say it’s expensive or that they only care about money: yes, it’s expensive—but you get what you pay for. I appreciated that they came in regularly to update me on costs and collect deposits, so I always knew where things stood and was never blindsided. To say they only care about money is so disrespectful to that team, who deal with death and trauma on a daily basis. These doctors spend years beyond regular vet school learning all they can to save your best friend, and most of the staff have their own pets—as I learned during my time there. (As mentioned, a staff member’s dog even gave my dog blood.) You also have to keep in mind that it is a business, and the way they afford top-of-the-line 24-hour staff, the newest meds, and advanced machines is by ensuring they collect payment. Not a single thing was ever done without my approval first. It’s an ER, and it’s clearly marked how they triage patients. We waited four hours the first time—but at that point, she just had a bloody nose. There were far worse cases coming in, and I’m glad those dogs went ahead of us—they needed it. Not everything works out, just like in human medicine—but they do their best, and they know best. It’s what they do. Okay, I think that’s all I have to say. Stevie was one tough cookie, and thank you again for being in our corner. ❤️

Positive experience: If you want to wait 6+ hours to be seen. This place is for you. 11:30am arrived. Spent 2 hours in the waiting room. Had the dog looked at for vitals. Put in the exam room for the next 4 hours. (No water for the dog) oh and dont worry they have a vending machine with m&ms for $4! We understand there are critical patients. So we waited. When we finally said. "Look we have to be home by 6pm and have an hr drive home". We finally see the dr. at 5:15. The dr. never touched the dog! She explained the issue (BECAUSE SHE EXAMINED HIM AT NOON!!) And the medicine could be explained to us by the vet technician! $600 and 6 hrs later... we left at 5:45 PM.

Negative experience: My eight month old puppy waited 10 hours to be seen. The vet came in our room at the end of her shift and talked to me for less than five minutes. She then had one of her techs attempt to shave my puppies neck, which was raw and infected. I could hear my puppy scream (not a normal cry) it was a blood curdling scream. A few minutes later, the tech came out and said they can’t shave him because it hurts and they would need to use anesthesia which I would have to wait until 11 AM when the next vet arrived. I am not sure why they would attempt to shave hair off any animal where the skin was raw and infected without some sort of anesthesia. My puppy left their traumatized and so did I.

MedVet Pittsburgh

We’re very sorry to hear how distressing this experience was for both you and your puppy. We understand how upsetting it can be to see your dog in pain, and we know this visit was emotionally difficult. Please know that pain control and patient comfort are among our highest priorities. In some situations, our team will first attempt care without sedation—especially when it may avoid the need for additional monitoring or delay—but if a patient is too painful, we absolutely recommend anesthesia to ensure the procedure is done safely and humanely. That said, we cannot move forward with certain treatments unless we have approval from a pet’s family. If you feel this wasn’t clearly communicated to you, or if you have additional concerns, we invite you to call and ask to speak with a member of our leadership team, or email us at [email protected] with your contact information and a copy of this review. We’re happy to direct it to the appropriate team for further review. We truly hope your puppy is healing and feeling more like himself.

I thought about it over and over, but it didn’t go as I planned in my head. My 10 year old Great Dane was in a-fib out of nowhere. His heart was racing and I could feel it pounding out of his chest. The ride over to MedVet was grim and I knew it was going to be that day I never wanted to meet. They took Thor in immediately, the vet gave her diagnosis and confirmed my fear. She said that dog hearts don’t work like human hearts’ electrical signals. She said there is no fix for his a-fib and he’d be suffering. As much as I didn’t want to accept it and I fought it, she assured me that she’d make the same decision for her own, and that it’s our responsibility to keep our pets from suffering and they rely on us for that. They took us to their comfort room which was a blessing. They didn’t rush us at all, they told us to take all the time we wanted and gave us blankets and all to make our pup comfortable so we could lay with him one last time. When we were ready, the vet came in, explained the process and talked us through it all. It was the hardest thing I’ve ever faced in my life, but getting to be with my baby during his last moments made a world of difference. They handled everything afterwards, including the transfer for cremation and they even made us a mold of his paw print. Seriously, I can’t thank them enough for helping us make one of the worst days of our lives so much brighter than I imagined. Miss you so much.

Negative experience: Horrible! Arrived for an emergency at 9am did not get emergency help until I approached desk at 4:30 pm that was an all day before we were looked at. I was outrageous! There were dogs and cats coming in without serious and were being taking care of. I will never ever refer or take my dog to this Facility in future. My little Yorkie was in so much pain and suffering I will never forgive them

Nadine, we are very sorry to hear how stressful this experience was for both you and your Yorkie. We know how heartbreaking it is to watch a beloved pet in pain, and our thoughts are with you. As an emergency and specialty hospital, we triage patients similar to a human ER, which means those in the most critical, life-threatening condition are seen first. This can lead to long and difficult wait times, and we regret if this was not communicated clearly during your visit. Please know that our team works tirelessly to provide care to every patient while also being at the side of pets needing life-saving support. If you would like to talk through your experience further, please call us directly and ask to speak with a member of our leadership team, or email [email protected] so we can connect.

Fantastic experience: I’ve unfortunately had to take my two dogs and my late cat here. I’ve been to this facility 4 different times between 2022 to 2025. I’d like to say that the circumstances that brought me and my animals to the facility were unfortunate, but I wouldn’t use that word to describe the staff there or services that we received. Every staff person (from the front desk staff, the person that handled our billing, the doctors, VAs, and technicians) that I met was kind and welcoming. Even while I struggled to process and make sense of everything that was going on (due to my pets going through medical emergencies and me being under a lot of stress at the time), the staff there took their time and were incredibly patient when speaking to my husband and I. They explained every option they could take with my animals during every stage of care/treatment, every procedure was discussed thoroughly before they moved forward with it, the important of/why they recommended bloodwork before anesthesia, were prompt with giving me updates after surgeries, and took their time with discussing aftercare plans with me. I was also incredibly impressed by your staff’s knowledge of some of the needs and health challenges of the dalmatian breed. Unfortunately, I don’t have her name, but I especially wanted to thank the technician or VA that spoke with me when my dalmatian was discharged from your facility after a urolith was flushed back via a catheter before my regular vet did a cystotomy a few days later. She also shared that both she and one of the surgeons at the facility owned dalmatians, and she really took her time with me to talk about urinary stones in dalmatians, general care information, HUA vs LUA dals, and provided information about credentialed veterinary nutritionists that I reviewed further with my regular vet. I couldn’t imagine not owning a dalmatian now after getting my boy, but it’s been a big learning process compared to other dogs, and I appreciate that she spoke with me in a away that was both informative, patient, and non-judgmental during an incredibly stressful and emotional time for my family. If this office ever provided general veterinary care, I would have been back in a heart beat for that reason alone. I hope that if anyone from this office ever reads this, that you could share with that tech or VA that my husband and I wanted to thank her and say that her level of care and professionalism was so appreciated. Given that this is an emergency facility where staff are available at all odd hours of the day and night, I thought that the costs that we paid were reasonable and fair for the services that we received. Yes- we did spend some periods at this facility where we were there for a few hours before we were either discharged or our pet was taken in for surgery, however, we don’t know what other types of other serious emergencies staff there were dealing with when we came in. Yes- some people that came in after us sometimes that were brought back before we were, but I also imagine that their pets were going through more serious emergencies that required more prompt or expedient treatment to save their life. Maybe they were already scheduled for an important surgery or scheduled to see a specialist. As someone who has spent almost a decade triaging clients in-need of services, I trust that their staff are able to appropriately triage their clientele. For example- if I went to the ER for chest pains, would I want the doctor to see the guy that walked in with a sprained ankle before me, even if he came in first? Or to be brought in to the ER after a serious car accident just for the doctor to see someone who came in first with a mild case of the flu? Probably not. So while inconvenient at times, I understand the wait (I hope others would too…) and I’ve never felt forgotten or invisible when I’m there, as staff did still check up on us during the wait. I would personally go back or recommend this facility.

Fantastic experience: Our pup was chewing on a stick and end up getting a piece of it stuck in his throat and was acting crazy. We brought him here and they saw him immediately. What seemed like 30 seconds later they walked out with a happy pup and a several inch stick. Very friendly and helpful.

Negative experience: I will NEVER take my pet here again. I was mislead and my dog got WORSE. They didn’t even offer medication…. They are not to be trusted, I never heard my dog yulp and cry like she did….. and again was not even treated medically for her condition properly. And the bill being over $800 they are a corporate company and just want to rob you of your funds. DO NOT USE THEM.

Fantastic experience: Our experience with Medvet in McMurray PA has always been positive. This time it was our 8-month old puppy who had a fractured growth plate in her left knee. The staff explained our options and didn't try to sell a surgery that wasn't necessary. Lucy just passed her third week casted and we are very satisfied with the care she has received. The folks at Medvet were very responsive when Lucy had issues with her bowel movements and worked with us to resolve the problem (poor baby was constipated). They quickly refilled meds when needed. They were timely with appointments. We are very pleased with Medvet so far.

Negative experience: Arrived at 4am and left at 9am. Dog couldn’t urinate and also gets 500 ml of fluids daily. Worried about bladder bursting. Techs ran a catheter and removed fluid. All we were waiting on were X-rays for stones and ended up leaving and calling primary vet to get scans. I understand critical cases being primary but they are severely understaffed for the services they provide. Personnel were extremely nice and patient and was a great interaction with them. Hire more vets or pay better to attract more vets.

Tonya, we appreciate you sharing both your kind words about our team and your frustration with the wait. We’re sorry for the stress and concern you experienced, and we understand how serious your dog’s condition was. Our triage process is designed to ensure that pets with the most critical needs are seen first, but this can result in long waits during peak times. We know how difficult that can be, especially when your pet is in distress. Please know our team is committed to doing everything we can for every patient, and we’re constantly working to improve. If you’d like to discuss your visit further, please call and ask to speak with a member of our leadership team or email [email protected]. We’re grateful you took the time to share your experience.

Fantastic experience: I have never been to them before. They were not as expensive as I thought they would be. My cat didn’t need much and that may be why. Their service was great. Longer than I wanted it to be but it is about the same wait as a human ER

Fantastic experience: My dog was put down here. They gave us so many options. They said they could try to help him, but warned us that if he did get through them helping, they weren't sure how long he had. They let us back with him while he was put to sleep, after we took some time to make the hard decision. They were so patient & respectful. Especially Amber Hutchinson. She was an angel. All the workers are angels & they handled my dog & my family with such gentleness & kindness. No rushing, no smart under-the-breath remarks, no weird looks, no trying to change our decisions. Nothing. They did clay paw prints after he was gone as well as gave us a jar of fur & wrapped him up so we could take him home to bury. They left his collar on, we took it off after we got him home. Thank you so much to the workers who helped my childhood dog Grizzly pass smoothly.

Fantastic experience: We went to this particular place because they have the most knowledgeable Dr's and the technology to know exactly what is going on with your Pet The Dr's and staff are very compassionate and loving which really helps during a emergency situation A big thank you goes out to everyone we met during our experience of reaching the end of life for our family member , our beloved Dog Star.
