Negative experience: Care is mediocre and the fees are outrageous. They provided me a cost estimate for a stage 1 teeth cleaning in the $1800 range (it will be costing me $500 at Banfield tomorrow). They charge $20 to give you a physical rabies tag in addition to the paying for the rabies vaccine (no other vet has ever charged me for the tag). And they will charge you extra money if you don't return their $0.50 cent plastic tube for a fecal test. South siders, just drive to Indiana and establish care for a quarter of the price - all the Chicago vets have been purchased by private equity and are profiteering off their customers. The extra 20 minute drive is going to save you thousands!

Thank you for sharing your feedback. We understand your concerns about pricing and appreciate your perspective. Our goal is to provide quality care as we are AAHA-accredited, which only 12-15% of Veterinary Hospitals in the U.S meet the standards.
We continuously review our pricing structure to ensure it reflects the services we offer.
During visits, our staff goes over treatment plans that reflect the price for services before services are performed, to gain approval from the owner, and ensure they are comfortable with the charges associated with our services. After visits, we follow up with clients as well as communicate any reminders if samples need to be brought back to us, since labs are time sensitive. We also charge $18 for the rabies tag that Cook County requires for all pets that are vaccinated against rabies. Below are a few links on what is required. We encourage you to reach out directly if you have further concerns.

Fantastic experience: I want to clear any misunderstandings from previous reviews. Hyde Park Animal Hospital are heroes. The cats abandoned in plastic bins were left in front of the hospital by an unknown stranger overnight. Once Hyde Park Animal Hospital opened, they immediately contacted Chicago Animal Care and Control and were able to rescue the kittens. In doing so, they saved these cats lives. Just because these cats were left at this hospital, doesn’t mean this hospital was the one that placed these cats in plastic bins. Please celebrate that these cats are rescued because of Hyde Park Animal Hospital.

Negative experience: One word, Horrible! These people should not be anywhere near animals. I called Hyde park animal hospital after seeing on a cat rescue forum that cats were placed in plastic bins with lids and left outside the animal hospital. The woman who answered the phone was unbelievably rude when I told her about the cats. She said she already knew about the cats and wasn’t going to do anything to help them. Her exact words “ you do something about it” Her demeanor and attitude was disgusting. I would never trust a place like this with an animal

We take feedback seriously, and the unfortunate circumstance that someone abandoned 12 cats yesterday in the alley behind the hospital and apartment buildings was cruel. The shelter was contacted for pet abandonment, and all cats were picked up and didn't seem hurt. The police department also showed up. Abandoning animals is a crime and happens way too often. As an animal hospital, we are not equipped or have the space to house abandoned animals. A hospital specializes in veterinary medical care, vaccines, diagnostics, etc. A shelter provides the housing and rehoming of abandoned/surrendering of animals.
Our team members also volunteer their time once a month to vaccinate over 500 animals in the community, to ensure pets are vaccinated against diseases. We care.
The lady you talked to yesterday, we will handle that internally. Again, thank you for your feedback.

Negative experience: Someone abandoned a bunch of cats in plastic bins right behind this clinic. After it was posted in a local Facebook group, multiple people called the clinic and asked them to help, since the cats were at risk of being suffocated. Whoever answered the phone refused to help even though the cats were literally a hundred yards away. Incredibly disappointing response from a community animal hospital.

Thank you for sharing your concerns. We take feedback seriously and are committed to supporting our community and animal welfare.
Soon after the hospital opened, we took the appropriate action and contacted the shelter, letting them know that there were abandoned cats in the alley behind the hospital and apartment buildings that needed to be picked up. And a good samaritan came by, and placed them in her car. We did help, since one cat escaped from the bin, and we ended up catching it.
The shelter came to pick up all the cats, as well as the police department, since abandoning animals is a crime.
"As your neighborhood veterinary hospital, we are a hospital that focuses on keeping your furry family members healthy through vaccinations and medical care. " We also volunteer our time, once a month, to vaccinate 500+ pets in communities. Unfortunately, the hospital is not equipped or does not have the space as a animal shelter does to take in several abandoned animals. It is also unfortunate that several animals are abandoned at animal shelters. Please spay and neuter your pets to keep the pet population down.

Fantastic experience: I had a wonderful experience at Hyde Park Animal Hospital. My cat was diagnosed with stones in his ureter. He was scheduled the following day to correct his urinary function. He is urinating with no problems at this time. I give praise to Dr. Narvaez and caring staff on my initial visit and Dr. Williams who performed my cats procedure, and staff for watching over him for 2 days during his hospital stay. Nothing but gratitude for all of them. Caring and compassionate with our other Loved ones ❤️. God Bless

Negative experience: I had to change my review…I use to love this place, but they literally killed my diabetic cat Simba Royston…when I called and called about his medication and no one answered and then when they did told me the medicine wasn’t ready when it had been ready for 3 days. He went into diabetic ketoacidosis and I had to take him to the emergency room. When the emergency room reached out to them to get medical records no one answered the phone and even though they left a ln urgent message no one called back. My cat passed away and no one even called to send me condolences. Dr. K is awesome but the front desk really needs to be replaced. I hate them for this and will never bring my new animal here.

Negative experience: Everyone is very nice but communication is atrocious and it impacts animal health. A year or two ago I brought my cat in to get tested for a uti. Didn’t get results, despite calling, and going in person, for two weeks. She had a uti the entire time and to this day i wonder if it impacted my cat’s recurring kidney problems. Have also had delays with prescriptions, including for serious issues like her UTI or for food refills. And several times a year I make an appointment that they then claim I got wrong (time, location, the appt existing). Recently, I went in because my cat was vomiting often. The vet felt an unidentified mass in my cat’s abdomen. They couldn't do an xray because their machine was down so scheduled me for Monday. They brought her back from getting an anti-nausea shot and she was very upset, which she does usually get. They came back minutes later to say they'd "forgotten to draw blood." Decided to schedule that for Monday too. Monday, we got xrays, bloodwork, and other tests done, all for the usual exorbitant prices. They warned me Dr Baker would be out for a week and that I wouldn’t get my results for 7 days and that she'd call Monday. They did not give me more meds for my cat in the meantime. That afternoon Dr Baker called and said the xray showed an irregularity with the kidney and asked if I wanted to send it to a radiologist for $200+ more. I spent 7 full days watching over my cat, who remained sick, and stressing. On the day the doc returned I spent all day waiting for results. At 4:30 I called and they said I “might still get a call.” 5:30 they said she was gone for the day. I informed them I had not gotten one, and they seemed puzzled. The next day, no call, and I was told she went home early for a personal emergency and would be out til Friday. They saw in the file that they were waiting on one test still but that I should have gotten a Monday followup call. Friday I called twice to emphasize that I needed to hear back, and finally got a call from her 10 minutes to the clinic closing. There was no mass. Possible IBS. Kidney was the same as it usually is. Heart was borderline but it would be fine because "she's never had a heart murmur." She does have a heart murmur, I corrected her. She's always had one, it's noted at every appointment. Oh yes, she said. I should have checked my notes. Six calls in five days. 10 days of waiting to find out if my cat is ok, and worrying she has something that needs treatment. All that to have the doctor finally get in touch and she hasn't even looked down at my cat's file properly. I have made an appointment for another vet. I will never bring my cat back there. Other reviews mention that Dr Williams is excellent; but I've only ever seen Dr Baker, and the reviews are not good for her. Skip this practice and go elsewhere unless you don't have a choice.

Negative experience: I have been taking my dogs here because I live in the area. I’d imagine this place stays in business due to its convenient location and lack of competitors in the area. It most definitely is not their professionalism that is bringing in clients. If there was any somewhat convenient alternative in the neighborhood, I’d be there in a heartbeat.

Negative experience: I had a generally good experience with this clinic in the past (the vet techs are so nice and great), but felt really let down in a recent critical situation. When I first brought in my two young sibling cats, I asked if it would be possible to do an early spay/neuter, knowing the risks of them mating. I was told they don’t fix cats until 6 months unless necessary. When my female 5 month old kitten went into heat for the first time and was mated by her intact male sibling, they refused a spay, even though pregnancy at her young age is more dangerous than a spay in early heat. I was also told they don’t do pregnancy terminations, and that the only option was to separate them for 6-8 weeks until they’d be willing to do a spay, which does nothing to eliminate the risk of pregnancy if mating has already occurred. They offered no other solutions and were completely unwilling to be flexible on their policies despite the potential health risks for my pets, and their website advertising flexibility in special/emergency situations. The price was also incredibly steep— over 4x the cost of what I ended up paying at a different clinic (who also emphasized that early fixing was the more responsible choice at this stage). I left feeling like my concerns weren’t taken seriously and wasn’t offered real support to protect my cats’ health. In fact, I believe they prioritized their own “image” and policies as a clinic rather than their patients’ wellness. This may be the right vet for some people, but if you have intact cats or urgent reproductive concerns, you may want to ask detailed questions first. I will be taking my cats elsewhere moving forward to a place that is more willing to prioritize their patients’ needs and safety.

Negative experience: I took my dog here for years before finally taking her somewhere else and I’m so thankful I finally did. Negative experience: Never bringing my cats here again. I brought both of my cats to be seen due to excessive scratching and hair loss around their ears. The first veterinarian they saw prescribed them itch wipes. When I brought them back for a follow-up they scheduled me with a different veterinarian (unbeknownst to me ) who sent us home with a clean bill of health after seeing the improvements in my cat's skin. When we got home, my cats immediately started scratching again to the point of bleeding. I had already expressed my concerns at the veterinarian because I felt like her follow-up was not thorough enough but I was dismissed. When I called the vet back and explained what had happened less than 30 minutes since they had been seen, They told me I had to reschedule another appointment with the first veterinarian and pay full price. At this point, I had already given them over $400, money that I did not have being that I was unemployed at the time. Because I did not have any more funds for them to be seen again after the vets negligence, my cats have been wearing cones and scratching for the past 7 months whole I've been trying to find at home remedies. I'm just now able to save up enough to take them to a new veterinarian. Thank you for all your amazing help Hyde Park animal hospital!!!!

Fantastic experience: I’d like to send a special thank you the staff and vets at this location. Both my dogs Sir Ellington and Paris were patients here. This year we unfortunately lost them both. Sir Ellington suffered from Congestive Heart Failure and collapsed trachea. Both progressive conditions I believe common in Yorkies. The care he was provided sustained him throughout the remaining years we had with him even as we changed vets due to relocation and I just want to thank you for taking the time, completing the test, and making needed modifications to his regimen that truly got it right. Although we were cross county I was actually planning on bringing him back during his last rough patch because I wanted him to be seen by the team who were most successful at his protocol but he didn’t make it. It took me a while to write this and I can’t fight back the tears. They both were so loved and will be dearly missed but I hope you all continue the great work you are doing because they are not pets. They are family. Thank you team.

Negative experience: This place is a disaster! I seriously believe that I was scammed. Felt like I was being punked and I was. All these vaccinations are required for you to have your dog groomed or boarded. Ok. So I met with the Vet for an exam. Then I had to come back to get more vaccinations. Then I had to come back in 3 weeks for more. Hundreds of dollars spent. They also tried to tell me that he needed a rabies vaccine. No he didn’t. That doesn’t expire until next year. After all “required” vaccines were completed I was finally able to schedule an appointment to have him groomed. I dropped him off. They call me 10 mins later to tell me that they weren’t able to groom him because one of the test results required more time to process. Then why take my money, schedule the grooming and waste my time having me drop him off? So I had to leave work and go back to pick him up. I called to let them know that I was on my way back. No answer so I left a voicemail. I get there again and they tell me they can now groom him because he already had that test at a previous vet that had not expired. Are you kidding me? So why waste my money on this test again? And why didn’t you call me to tell me that he can now be groomed. So now I’m headed back to work. They call me again and tell me that he can not be groomed. He’s too old. So we’ll have to shave him completely bald and charge you more money. Come back for the 3rd time today and get your dog. They did nothing but waste my time and money. I will take the long commute to the vet that is more professional and organized. This place is a mess and can’t be trusted.

Fantastic experience: Our 7 year old pit-mix male dog KennyBlu saw Dr. Jeremy Williams and his team. They were awesome. Kenny is a sweet dog and they treated him with gentle care and no fear because of his breed. Everyone from the receptionist to the tech the doctor and dr's. assistant were professional and answered all of our questions. At one point we had 3 techs assisting, administering vaccines and teaching who seemed to be a student assistant the proper way to administer and draw blood. Dr. Jeremy called me a few days later with KennyBlu's lab results and review of the exams. He was very attentive and explained everything in laymen's terms so I could get full understanding. The office was clean and didn't smell as so many animal hospitals do. We plan to bring Kenny back for his healthcare and follow up visits.

Negative experience: I have been using this place since they were a clinic on 53rd Street and I continue to use the clinic on 51st now, with the hospital as a medication refill spot. I have never had issues with anyone, until now, and I do not even know who caused this problem! I called and left a refill request for my dog's medication on their phone service on Monday. Nothing. No acknowledgment at all. I called and left a message Wednesday asking for an update, because of course no one ever picks up the phone. Nothing. Called yesterday and left a message again. Nothing. Called this morning, AGAIN, and left a message saying that I had left a refill request, my dog was down to his last pill, and I really didn't want him to get sick (he has allergies that make him wheeze). No response. FINALLY, I received a phone call saying that his prescription needed to be approved by his vet, but since he wasn't there until next Wednesday, they were going to ask another vet to approve it, but they may not because this vet has never seen my dog before. WHAT?! She apologized because someone obviously dropped the ball, but I guess there isn't much that she can do. Now I have to figure out what to do for my dog until if and when his prescription is refilled. Frankly, I'm tired of the runaround I got with this request and will probably just be looking for another place that will hopefully be more timely with their refills and calls.

Negative experience: I’m extremely disappointed and frustrated with the service I received at Hyde Park Animal Hospital today. I had a confirmed appointment — they even sent me an email confirmation — so I left work early to make sure my dog could be seen. When I arrived, I was told there was a scheduling error on their end and the doctor would not be seeing my pet. What’s most upsetting is the complete lack of professionalism and compassion. The doctor didn’t even come out to speak to me personally, didn’t offer an apology, and made zero effort to assess whether my dog had an urgent need. Instead, the message was simply relayed through the front desk that the doctor “couldn’t see us.” This is unacceptable for any medical practice — especially one entrusted with the care of animals. My time was wasted, my dog wasn’t treated, and I was left with no support, no solution, and no basic courtesy. I will not be returning and cannot recommend this clinic to anyone who values reliability, communication, and basic decency in pet care.

Negative experience: 0 stars. TERRIBLE business operations and SHAMEFUL tactics. VERY UNPROFESSIONAL SCAMMERS. They will book an appointment over the phone, quote you a price and then play nice once you're in just to do the old switch-a-roo when you're already done with part of the "services". Brought my two 10 week old puppies in for their first set of shots. We were told over the phone that the cost would be $60 per dog for their first round. Never told there was a exam fee that cost more than the actual shots and dewormer. Upon arrival a lady snatched both puppies out of my two daughters hands without our permission while I was turned around singing in and she ran off with them to another room to "show them off". The doctor came in with no gloves on and touched around them and in their mouths with his bare hands for less than 5 full mins. for both puppies just to tell us after the fact that it was $75+ per pup per exam. He barely did anything at all. BFFR. They were upset and shocked when I said I wanted all services performed in front of us as I know the type of games people play nowadays. They were moving weird which alarmed my instincts to keep a close watch and to make sure the service claimed would actually be provided/performed; not off in another room where we wouldn't see them as the vet suggested or tried to run game on me. They charged two different prices for both pups of the same age and breed that had a clean bill of health from them. Wanted over $450 for just one round of exams and shots for both which is outrageous pricing and was not discussed over the phone. There's no pricing sheet like other vets in the Chicagoland area so they can make up whatever as they go after they already have you in there. Petco charges way less for all the round of shots which is done in 3 visits plus extra services and testing. At Hyde Park animal hospital she told me after the fact that going forward every time they come there is an exam fee plus the cost of shots; so if I agreed to the insanity I would be over paying for subpar services that I'm not sure would have even been performed. $450+ x 4 visits totaling over $1800. Petco charges $229 for Pup Shield Pro (all 3 visits) or $99 per pup first visit and the exams for new patients are free. Save yourself time, money and the headache of dealing with people that like to play mind games and go with a well know company that lays everything out so there's no confusion. Do yourself a favor and DO NOT go here just because it's close by. The fake niceness is a rouse unless you just like overpaying then do you. AND always always always read the reviews and don't ignore the people that take the time to warn you. I should have read the reviews they are horrible.

Negative experience: Made my appointment on April 9th for April 18. Got a call that my appointment would be cancelled same day. While I understand things happen, they had no urgency in trying to get us in earlier. Next appointment wasn't until April 30, and when I called back they did not answer the phone. Its not only inconsiderate to cancel us same day but to also be unapologetic about it is despicable. Thankfully, Woodlawn Animal Hospital was able to take us same day, so we will not be returning to Hyde Park.

Negative experience: While the staff is kind and pleasant to work with, our elder cat received subpar service. Refills for Rx would take 3-4 weeks, and appts for urgent care are at least a week out. Twice we had to take our cat to the ER bc they couldn't see him in time. 1st time ER saved his life, but the 2nd time it was too late, and our cat died within 15 mins of arriving to the ER bc HPAH didn't have any appts until a week out. I will never ever take another pet here when they are better vets out there who understand the need to provide timely med refills and make room in their schedules for emergent issues. Disgraceful

Fantastic experience: Very friendly clean atmosphere. The staff is very professional and tentative to our pets. This will definitely be our primary office. The only downfall is that it is pretty pricey.

Negative experience: I have been a long time patron of Hyde Park animal Hospital. At my pet’s most recent annual visit I explained to Dr Elizabeth De La Sierra my concerns. She downplayed all of my concerns. Only seeming interested in adding services that would be an additional fee. At some point, mid conversation I was informed that she must go and tend to other clients. At checkout I was offered $10 to give a 5⭐️ review. How dare you try to buy reviews! How shady! So no need to trust the positive reviews. The unaddressed concerns I was having with my dog worsened in a few days. I called to speak with a doctor to explain and was told that the one doctor on staff for the day was busy in surgeries all day. I was also informed they did not have any upcoming appointments and that I should visit an emergency facility. Needless to say I am very disappointed and angry!

Fantastic experience: Our Dog Drake was given a death sentence by MedVet emergency clinic, if we did not follow there surgery procedure that cost upwards of $5000 to start. We opted that we could not afford that, and took him to Hyde Park Animal Hospital to be put down and not feeling good about that at all. At the appointment, Dr. Kat Baker refused to put him down and suggested another treatment that required no surgery. I am happy to announce that Drake is home and doing very well and looking forward to a long happy life. I am forever grateful to Dr. Baker and Hyde Park Animal Hospital for their services. The staff spanning from the front desk to the Veterinarians and the management staff have been a Godsend in keeping our dogs happy and healthy. Remarkable place all around, very loving to all dogs they service. I love this place.

Fantastic experience: A wonderful animal care facility. The doctors and nurses are skilled and have great patience and kindness. The front desk staff are professional and very warm and, while intake and check out can take a while, it's because the facility is usually very busy. Their kennel staff is amazing. My dog loves staying here for overnight boarding. I know he is treated with care.

Negative experience: They Killed my puppy, and broke our heart. She was my daughters Emotional Support Animal. My grief is so heavy it cuts off my breath. I am angry I trusted Hyde Park Animal Hospital. The many choices they made lead to the death of my puppy. 1) not informing me of medicine used on her when she arrived. 2) not letting us know the critical nature of her condition 3)not releasing her early enough to get to ER. She only lived 1 hr in the ER, and we were at Hyde Pk hospital for approximately 5 hrs. When they determined they did not have the capability to treat her- they should have released us to rush her to ER. Instead they suggested that we leave her with them overnight for "observation." Then take her to ER the next day if no improvement. They close at 7pm, and open 8am. There would be NO ONE ON SITE @ NIGHT. My baby would have died alone. That suggestion implied that her condition was not critical. If it was critical then I would've trust that they wouldn't suggest leaving her there for "observation." When we brought her in - she had thrown up & we were concerned. Roxy had an ear infection diagnosis a week before. We just wanted her checked out. We came in - She was up moving around on the exam table- in my lap- my shoulder--the only issue was she was not feeling well. I didn't think I would be burying her hours later. The problem is they KNEW SHE WAS CRITICAL. Her records were transferred to ER. Literally when we entered the ER specialist runs out grab my puppy and says to her team "this is our critical patient". This was the FIRST TIME I HEARD CRITICAL, and the LAST TIME I SAW MY BABY ALIVE. Why didnt they tell me, and give me a chance to leave to rush her to ER quicker? Major part of this horrible grief I feel is that I trusted, and waited to take her to Hyde Park Hosp. My puppy was up & alert when I brought her in after she threw up, etc. They gave her to me in a blanket barely coherent as i rushed her to ER. I am angry at myself. Instead I should have bypassed them, and go to ER. Now my 2 yr old puppy is dead, and my heart is broken. I can't stop crying, and being angry at Hyde Park AND Myself. The trust I had for them died with my fur baby. I can no longer pick her up, cradle her, rub her, and gaze into her soothing puppy dog eyes. I now hold my hands upon my heart imagining her resting her head on my shoulder. That was a heavy price to pay for the lesson. This has been devastating for our family-she was not only my "grand-puppy" - she saved my daughter. Now my daughters Emotional Support Animal is gone. . This is a nightmare I wish I could wake up from. Pray for our family...

Negative experience: Not sure if my review was posted but I have taken my cat to this clinic many times for up to date shots, nail trimming, boarding an illness he had, had to purchase medication which is understandable but I believe their prices are over excessive. I had to have my 17 year old cat euthanized I was in the clinic crying, bawling and heartbroken. They were sympathetic until time to pay up. I walked out of there paying over 400.00. This is my first time having to have a cat euthanized and so I never received a card at least expressing their condolences. Not sure if animal clinics does this but I’m just saying. I now have another cat and definitely will find another clinic to take him to.

Negative experience: Really sad what has happened to vet offices since being bought out. The vets won't spend much time with you. The vet tech have to handle all questions and you better listen fast cuz they all will be talking fast. Also they've lost some dogs so be careful they're boarding services are dangerous.

Positive experience: Well, I am happy to see my fellow African-Americans working in this space. I always feel overcharged and up charge. There is a frequent addition to my bill for things that I did not request. For my pet to be seen or get shots they add on extra exams or charge me for stool samples when all I want is shots for my pet and not a run around. I like to get in and out of a space as I have a large and anxious and if overwhelmed aggressive Corso. When I am here, they are helpful with getting his shots done but More so from a standpoint of me advocating for him versus this being a place that is a wealth of animal knowledge and support. Just pay attention to what you are paying for, however and you will be fine.

Negative experience: I went to this place since it had great reviews and was relatively close to me. The staff and vets were nice and respectful but there was definitely a lack of communication on what exactly I am paying for. They had me pay for a service that I never received and when I called to let them know, they told me there was nothing they could do. They truly do care for the Animals but this action resulted in me having distrust with them as it made them come off as money hungry. I spent over $500 just in vaccination and checkup charges, which is insane compared to other place I have found since then. They also claim they don’t take pet insurance.

Fantastic experience: The staff was very welcoming, and professional. The veterinarian was kind and gentle with my fur baby Rex. The facility as always whenever I went there was clean. Grateful to my brother for referring Hyde Park Animal Hospital on Stoney Island. I brought my Shitzu Woody, here for his continual care until his passing in 2022.

Positive experience: I've had nothing but good experiences taking my pets to them for medical care. When I boarded a cat and reptile for about 4 days, I noticed when returned to me, they were both very thirsty, both went straight to the water bowl when I got them back home. Otherwise, they seemed well taken care of. Edited to add, once they clipped my cat's claws and clipped so close she couldn't climb using her claws until they grew out again. I didn't expect them to be clipped this close.

Positive experience: Look, everyone that I've actually been able to interact with at this vet has been kind and professional and clearly cares deeply about animals. However - I am incredibly frustrated at how impossible it is to get in contact with them via phone, email, or website contact form. They never respond to voicemails. They have never responded to emails or contact form submissions. I have to call, repeatedly, until someone eventually picks up - maybe, if I'm lucky. It truly may be the thing that makes me go to a new vet, because being that lack of reliability makes doing business with them nearly impossible. I hope they fix it, as they have said they are working to. But so far, they haven't, and they're losing my trust as a customer. I've never left critical reviews, but am doing so here in hopes that they re-examine their communication procedures to fix them once and for all. I'd be happy to amend this review if they do.

Negative experience: The vets Dr. Katie Keets and Dr. Jeremy Williams allowed my dog to mutilate her paw while under their care. She was a large breed who went in the hospital with an infected paw. Dr. Keets wanted to keep her overnight for "observation". When I pick her up the following day, I was informed then that her entire nail "fell off". She was kept in a kennel overnight with no protection cone and chewed her nail down to the nerve. After a couple of days her leg was becoming infected and I contacted them upset of course and I was told Dr. Williams wanted me to bring her back. This monster tried to tell me, with no testing or anything, that my dog had cancer and that's why her nail came off. I knew he was covering up but I wanted my dog properly treated and since I paid them and her paw was never treated by Keets. He kept my dog over the weekend, supposedly treating the infection. After having her for 4 days, I popped up there and found my dog with her entire toe gone! Everything except the bone and pad. The infection was cleared up and he obviously was trimming the tissue. I paid another 6k to have what was left amputated. I attempted to sue but I needed to hire an attorney and provide an expert witness which would've cost close to 10k. I filed a complaint with the State of IL but they closed it out. I ended having it withdrawn voluntarily so I can still go back and sue. Be careful of who you choose for your vet. They can hurt your pet, cause you great financial damage, and it's difficult to sue because pets are property by most States' laws. Even though they make billions in this industry. Dr. Keets is a real quack and Dr. Williams is a monster in my opinion. You'll be taking a real chance going to Hyde Park Animal Hyde Park or Clinic

Negative experience: if their credit card terminal is ever not working do not let them convince you that you can pay later. they send out payment notices late and then deactivate your patient account for not paying within a certain time frame. also, they have no problem letting other people sign documents on yours and your pet’s behalf without asking or informing you. i have been a loyal member of the hospital for years and am being denied service based on an agreement forged between the hospital and someone else whose name was not on our patient account without my knowledge or consent. my cat is now severely injured and they couldn’t care less about seeing her regardless of my attempts to settle the payment. this hospital prioritizes finances over patient care and should be ashamed considering the fact that it’s a whole animal HOSPITAL.

Negative experience: I cannot believe I suffered at this animal hospital for over a decade before I finally moved onto greener pastures. Yes, the grass I greener where you water it and it’s clear the grass is being watered with cat urine at Hyde park animal hospital. I had the most trouble calling to schedule an appointment but also the electronic scheduling platform did not work properly so you had to call multiple times and by the time they answered there were few available appointments - none in the near future. They required a deposit because they don’t trust customers to show up or pay - which is frustrating if you’ve been going here and paying for years. Then they’re always late for appointments and they can run 90+ minutes long. Find another vet, friends. I went to another vet and they answer phone, they are friendly, the appointment started on time and took maybe 30 minutes, and it was half of the cost. If you are still suffering with this clinic and a high turnover of providers, move on to greener pastures

Negative experience: I’m very shocked and disappointed in how I was treated at my last visit at this clinic. The veterinarian with was very disrespectful and made a HUGE assumption about me and my family regarding the care of my pet!!! This person KAT might be a decent veterinarian, but definitely needs to learn how to speak to HUMAN adults! Totally UNACCEPTABLE

Negative experience: If I could leave them 0 stars I would. My dog got very very sick and he was brought in. First I had to call like 50 times for someone to bring make the emergency appointment to bring him in. The doctors went back and forth with what was wrong and finally diagnosed him. After medicine and IVs and learning what to do at home and 1000. We were trying to save our dog. The next day we had questions. We called and called and finally left a message with someone for the doctor to call us back. Our dog passed 24 hours later. The doctor finally called back 2 days later. Smh. The callousness and lack of concern was ridiculous. They had no problem taking my money but couldn’t have the empathy to say your dog can not be saved or even to return a phone call. If you love your pet don’t come here

Negative experience: My puppy died after coming here. No they did not kill her; however, there was a degree of negligence on their part-- that may have caused harm. She got sick over the weekend. They had just treated her for an ear infection. She was alert when she came in. After being there several hours - they brought her out in a blanket - NOT ALERT. I rushed her to ER. They wanted to observe her overnight- even though they close at 7, and open 8am next day. Who would watch her? I took her to the ER since they really weren't doing anything. When I arrived to ER- the specialist said she was CRITICAL. However, Hyde Pk had her all morning and never told me that. They sent her records to ER, and something sounded the alarm. The ER doctor was waiting for us and rushed my 2 yr puppy to the back. I never saw my puppy alive again. Hyde Pk Animal Hosp Failure to Inform me of the puppy serious/ critical condition made me think that it would be a normal vet visit. She has thrown up & pooped a lot in the past. They changed her food - which helped. I thought it would be something similar. What they should have told me was to take her to the ER... instead they tried to sell me on the ridiculous overnite suggestion. We lost life saving hours sitting in room with no solution. Only overnight. Can you imagine her being there in that condition dying in their dark office- alone. Bottomline they focused on overnite $$-- when they HAD TO HAVE KNOWN how gravely ill she was. Yes, I gave them their $800 and rushed to my puppy to ER. I'm heart broken and angry. They gave her pain meds on an empty stomach- without letting me know. This explained why she could not wake up in the ER. They took away her ability to stay alert and fight for her life. Now I just sit here crying. Angry that I trusted them. Shame on you Hyde Pk. I've trusted them for over a decade. Now I wish I had not. vominf - but a They came back with pancreatitis. Later they told me (after) she died that they weren't equipped to handle

Negative experience: I am writing this review because I read another review which suggested that they will take you for all the money that you have, and that is absolutely correct. First, the technology platforms that they use are outdated. It’s impossible to actually book an appointment or refill medications through the app; you have to call. When you call, their message tells you to book through the app even though it’s not possible. Second, I have taken my animals here for several years. I have scheduled all of their exams on time. They are up to date on all of their vaccines. And yet, when I called to request a refill of a medication for a recurring medical issue - I was met with very expensive barriers. What I found interesting was the way in which the representative went about explaining this. I asked for the food and she tells me they’re out of stock. I suggest a solution: I can order it through chewy and the doctor can approve it? Now that I have suggested a solution where I could get the medicated food elsewhere, she tells me that actually I need to book an annual wellness appointment because they haven’t seen my cat in 13 months. I didn’t book an appointment with them because I booked elsewhere (appointment pending) because every time I take my pets in for an exam I am stuck there for 1.5-2 hours as a result of the long wait times. For this particular ailment, the doctor didn’t do any additional tests or actually investigate the issue - they just prescribed the medicated food. Therefore, based on my experience, they could easily just approve the medicated food a second time for a recurring and known ongoing issue - but not if they want to get your money! Generally speaking, establishments that require deposites, cancel late appointments and charge cancellation fees but then also see patients horrendously late are garbage. I feel like for an ongoing patient of YEARS, the doctor could’ve approved that dang prescription appointment pending so that I could go ahead and start my cat on treatment. But they care more about getting their money than they do about the wellbeing of your pet. A capitalistic win, but a fail in providing adequate care. 0/1 would recommend this facility

Negative experience: FWIW, I have not had a negative interaction with a staff member. They have been courteous in the least if not openly kind. However, this is not enough to carry them. I have gone to Hyde Park Animal Hospital for 10 years at this point (for 3 separate animals). It was never a stellar experience, but it got the job done and it was local. On several occasions, I have found myself waiting a great deal of time for my scheduled appointment which can be very frustrating. I have been driven to the point of finally writing a review because I need to admit to myself that this establishment is no longer worth my patronage. I waited 40 minutes for my scheduled appointment. I was in the facility for 90 total minutes. The visit lasted 50 minutes because the vet & tech were in & out of the office for various reasons. If this were the first time in 10 years that this had been an issue I’d probably let it go, but enough is enough. This is not the exception, it is the norm. It’s a quite confusing norm because I have called a few times over the years, attempting to get a last minute appointment for my dog or cat and they’ve always been unwilling to squeeze me in. If they don’t squeeze in emergency appointments, then why are they always behind schedule? It seems like an organization or scheduling issue and I’m sick of places trying to squeeze in as many appointments as (obviously NOT) possible at the expense of my time. Furthermore, the cost of an annual exam plus shots continues to increase. It has increased by $200 in the last two years. Last year I thought it had gone up (by $100) bc my dog required a few three year vaccines, so I told myself the cost would decrease (or at least not increase) the following year. I played myself because not only did it not stay the same, it increased by an additional $100. Additionally, they finally upgraded their app so you can schedule appointments through the app but I attempted to do so and it didn’t work. So I still had to call and schedule an appointment like it’s 2013. So at this point, I am paying more to wait longer and at best engage with moderately friendly staff. Being close to my home is not enough to keep me anymore and I will be seeking another provider.

Aminah Hanan Posted on Google 2 years ago

Negative experience: EDIT: changed vets because I sent my cat with my husband and he came back with a limp. Luckily nothing was broken but the tech didn’t say anything. If the cat was being difficult they could’ve easily told us and we would’ve come back in another day. You need to be able to trust your pet with their vet. I don’t trust them anymore. I like this vet. The techs are excellent. Except the one that didn’t really clip my cat’s nails. My fault for not checking. It’ll never happen again. Prices have gone up but where have they not? Overall great service since my go to vet retired.

Negative experience: This was our primary vet for our family cat. Last night, we took our cat that had gotten out of the house and came back battered and bloody and injured. I tried calling at 5:15 PM and no one answered and I left a voice mail. We decided to just go, because it was still well within working hours and our cat was suffering. No other customers were in there. The clerk was helpful and said she'd ask the doctor, but that they wouldn't be able to do anything at this hour. (Hours are until 7, mind you). After checking out the cat behind closed doors, the doctor came out and said he had a broken jaw, and there was nothing they could do right now. No offers of pain meds, nothing. Just a worksheet with other vet locations, all of which were an hour away in traffic. When we asked how much treating this condition might cost, this vet said she had no idea, and was completely dismissive. The lack of compassion to our situation was stunning. The very least they could have done was made him a little more comfortable with pain meds before we had to go somewhere else. We ended up having to go to the ER vet and had to make a decision to put him to sleep. This could've been prevented had they taken even 20 damn minutes to see if they could help at all. Instead, our cat is dead because some vets had weekend plans. It's very unprofessional at the least to post business hours you don't actually honor. If you don't want to say open until 7PM, then don't post hours until 7 PM. Had we known, we could've gone straight to the ER vet and saved precious time. They could've told me that on the phone, but they didn't answer. I'm not blaming my cat's death on this place, but they certainly wasted a lot of time and made his last hours a pain filled experience, sitting in the back of our car in traffic trying to find somewhere else. I fully understand some places aren't equipped to handle certain emergencies, but just a touch of compassion goes a long way. I'll never go here again, and I suggest you don't either.

Fantastic experience: Dr Baker, at the HPAH, is the BEST!!! She and her staff took very good care of my Zoe (on the right) as she was in her final stages of life. I am very grateful for their patience and understanding of how emotionally challenging this was for us. If you don’t have a vet, you should consider the HPAH.

Fantastic experience: We currently have two dogs and have used the vets at Hyde Park Animal clinic for over 30 years. We also frequently board our dogs at their kennel and the dogs come back healthy and happy as far as we can tell. We are very satisfied with the care they get while boarding.

Fantastic experience: My dog had a terrible UTI infection and I needed him to be seen right away, although they are not and emergency hospital, when I called I was able to get him in the same day. The staff was friendly and the nurse and Doctor were extremely helpful. Dr Baker even called to follow up with me about his results. I'm glad this hospital is in my area and will continue to go there for my fur babies.

Positive experience: Hyde Park Animal Hospital is excellent. The Vets are very thorough and took good care of my dog. Hyde Park Animal Hospital is the only clinic that I trust with my dog. They treated my dog for an itchy rash and allergies and updated vaccinations. Update: This is the only Veterinarian clinic that I have used with my dog Nippy. In the beginning, I thought Hyde Park Animal Hospital was the best but now I am having 2nd thoughts and looking for another Veterinarian to care for my dog. I have been calling HP for an appointment for the last month with no response or callback. I am very disappointed. What's the problem, are you all still in business?

Negative experience: I hate giving a low rating especially since I know that the great resignation has affected vet offices too, but I feel that the vets and staff are not working together and it affects the well being of the animals. My dog started limping in July after chasing a squirrel and we thought for sure she tore something. We went in to see the vets the next day and they said they couldn’t X-ray because of the swelling and to come back in a couple weeks. We finally were able to make an appointment after many calls and messages. (They never called back, you just need to catch them when they are free). She had her X-rays finally and again, we had to wait for a call from the doctor that took many calls for a week. They said she was fine and that it could take up to 6 months to heal. They gave us some meds for swelling and pain. A few months later, still limping on her leg, our dog had her annual visit and Kimmy( the PT vet tech - a godsend) came up to me and said that there was some PT we could do. So we went for 7 sessions with no improvements. At the end of the 7th session Kimmy said she wanted to check in with the vet. The vet said that the X-rays were not clear so that they would retake the X-rays. This is now close to 5 months later and they find that she did in fact tear her cruciate ligament. We scheduled surgery at a great orthopedic vet in Highland, Indiana and for 2weeks they tried to get our dog’s records to no avail. It’s a bummer because they are in the neighborhood, but the service is so poor we cannot return.

Negative experience: Brought my dog in for eye drops and a microchip. I go home, am petting my dogs back and feel something weird. I use my phone flashlight and separate her fur and see the microchip was sticking halfway out of my dogs back. I immediately call the vet back but they’ve closed for the day so I leave a voicemail. I call first thing the next day (it takes about 20 min and several calls to actually get an answer) and when I told them what happened, the person on the phone is shocked and asks if “im sure” because she’d never heard of that happening. I tell her I’m literally looking at the chip coming out of my dogs back and that I wanted my money back for the poor service and inconvenience of having to go back to the facility again (I was supposed to be working). She is quick to say no and asks “well do you want a new chip?” I say yes…and she says I’ll have to pay for the replacement. Absolutely ridiculous. I argue this and say I wouldn’t even have to be going back if they had done their jobs correctly in the first place. The receptionist finally agrees that if they can confirm the chip is indeed sticking out of my dogs back, I would get refunded. I bring my dog back, yes the chip was sticking out of her back (the vet blamed MY DOG, saying she moved a lot which is why the insert went awry) then I wait 40min for a doctor and again have to argue for my refund to a different receptionist. All this to say, I will never go back. This place used to be great. I don’t know what happened, but it’s an absolute mess now. And this is just one situation. I, as well as several family members, have other horror stories from this place. Don’t waste your time or money.

Negative experience: I am giving zero stars--not one. I called repeatedly during business hours when my dog had an emergency and they never got back to me. I continued to call over the course of 3 days after I already saw a new vet, and they still did not answer. Finally they answered (never called back) on day 4 when I was calling to request they send me my dog's complete medical record with them. They NEVER suggested any other procedure besides full sedation for my dog who requires additional care for a regular nail trim--my dog is now 10 years old it is not healthy to sedate him that often. I was immediately presented an alternative option by my new vet. I was told that a lump on my 10 year old dog was cancer and it was immediately removed by the new vet on visit #2. Hyde Park Animal Clinic told me it was "normal changes as a dog gets older"--he was 6 yrs old, and they ignored it for years. If you love your pet and family member as I love mine, please try a different vet if you are suspicious of ANYTHING going on with him or her.

Fantastic experience: I love this place. Its very professional, cuteous, and kind. They will take very good care of your pet. Often give great service and follow up advice. Sort of pricey, but its worth the money. My pet looks really great..

Adam Mendez Posted on Google 3 years ago

Positive experience: This was my first time visiting this animal hospital and it was good. The wait wasn't terrible and the facility itself is laid out nicely. The only thing that bothered me was that during my pet's examination (I went in for a skin allergy situation) I tried to show the vet a new hotspot from the allergy that developed on her back, and she was all like "excuse me!" in a really aggressive tone and I wasn't sure what that meant and when I didn't take my hand off of my pet quickly enough, she said "Excuse me! I am doing my examination!" At this point I was bewildered because she seemed so poised and professional at first. Being a new customer, I would expect them to be a little more professional and understanding. It was really off-putting. Other than that, the staff was wonderful, and the prices are reasonable. I think I will go elsewhere next time though. I don’t want that vet ever again. Update: After visiting another vet I was blown away by how much better they were than this place. The vet at my new place blows away the condescending rude one here. So much more gentle and caring with my pet, not to mention polite and sweet with her clients. I will never be back here.

Negative experience: Usually I have pretty good service but today was very disappointing. Let me start by saying the girls at the front are always extremely sweet, but the doctor that my dog and I saw today was unpleasant, and she seemed a little rude. On top of that they ran tests and charged fees that (to my understanding) wouldn’t be applied since this was a follow up visit. Extremely disappointed. Again, love the ladies at the front desk but didn’t care for the vet.

Fantastic experience: Very clean, modern facility. Wait time was short, saw vet personnel within 5min. Customer service was excellent. Vet nurse was knowledgeable about my kitten and loving. Handled my kitten with care. Dr S was very pleasant, gave detailed explanations to all my all my questions. Gave side effects of shots given. Dr S did not rush her care. Discharge instructions were easy to follow. Discharge was quick. Vet costs can be expensive..pricing reasonable

Negative experience: Dr. Wake spent 30 years building his practice caring for and loving our pets. Hyde Park Animal Clinic was once considered a premier clinic for the south side of Chicago. I have taken all of my pets there since 2004. Unfortunately, it took the new owners less than 6 years to tear down the reputation Hyde Park Animal Clinic once had. The customer service is less than desirable. They come across as cold and unconcerned. I took my older cat in for a wellness check and to have her nails clipped 2 years ago. It was found that she had fluid on her stomach. The vet took some of the fluid off but without a diagnosis, the vet tried to convince me and my family to put her down that day. He said I must consider the quality of life. Also, he did not clip her nails. I took her somewhere else to have her nails clipped. She is still enjoying life to this day. They can keep that quack doctor and their horrible customer service.

Christopher Summers Posted on Google 3 years ago

Negative experience: Absolute worse customer service from their receptionist. I was mislead and uninformed that my cat was too weak for vaccination after diagnosis of illness about a week ago. I was lead to believe that she was vaccinated and up to date so in the future when the time came to have surgery everything was in order. Come today while admitting her for emergency surgery. I call to get her records forwarded to the surgeon I find out via the most nastiest, idiotic and highly unprofessional receptionist that she wasn't vaccinated. Rather then taking the time to listen to the client or customer she decides to over talk me and then proceeds to hang up the phone mid conversation. Then would not answer my calls when I tried to call back, screening my calls. Keep in mind I'm calling them during an emergency situation and this is the treatment Hyde Park Animal Hospital on Stony Island gives out. The other issue I have with them is that during my visit, concerning the veterinarian's I found them to be very vague, giving prepared answers to get you to spend more money it seems.  I also found them to be lacking with the after care procedures. My cat was just diagnosed with an serious ailment, potentially life threatening. They suggested X-ray to pinpoint the blockage. I was told she did have an x-ray and it confirmed the blockage in her system. However, I wasn't shown that x-ray until I requested it for my records a few days later. No explanation or presentation of the X-rays were shown to me during the time of the diagnosis and initial visit, I definitely billed for it though. I had to request for that via email, while they did send x-rays they didn't send an explanation of the x-ray as I requested. They also didn't bother to schedule my cat for a follow up appointment to see if there was any changes. Overall my experience with Hyde Park Animal Hospital has been lackluster at best.

Fantastic experience: The staff is GREAT. They are professional, patient, calm and friendly. They are good with scared pets, even the big ones. I've been a client for some years now and I always come back. I feel comfortable leaving my pets for the weekend and confident that when they're sick the doctors are knowledgeable and compassionate.

Fantastic experience: I love this place ❤️. The staff is awesome and they are patient. Not to leave out veterinarian's they are as well awesome. If they are not available, they'll get back to you in a timely matter. The doctor's office it's always clean. They take care of your pet as if it was their own. Any questions comments or concerns all are addressed. I wouldn't take my dog anywhere else. Thank you for being such a good Clinic not only to my pet but to me as well. So I rate them at 5 and kudos to you guys. Thank you for being a part of our lives....

Negative experience: They tried to unnecessarily over charge me for a Flu shot for my Shih Tzu dog . I only wanted my dog groomed & he already has all his vaccines shots. He doesn’t need any more shots when I have his medical vaccine paperwork as proof. I was not going to pay $64.00 grooming +$75.00 for medical exam+$50.00 for Flu shot that Crazy! I will never go to them again nor will I advise anyone to deal with them.

Fantastic experience: Dr. Andreu absolutely goes above and beyond to care for our cat, Rubiks. He's had some persistent health issues, and she is always communicative and thorough going through his bloodwork and explaining her concerns. She truly takes the time to research his issues and treatments after our appointments, and follows up by email with her findings. She discusses all aspects of what might be affecting him- we've changed his diet based on her recommendations, and it's definitely been good for his nutrition and keeping weight on. Our cat is really badly behaved at the vet/very difficult to handle, and she has great patience with him to make sure that he gets examined as thoroughly as he can be. I've never been one to leave reviews before, but really want to emphasize that Dr. Andreu is the best vet we've ever had! We are very lucky to have found someone so invested in his wellbeing.

Fantastic experience: We have had our fur baby Rocky for about 3 years now. This was the very first animal hospital we took him to. The care has always been Great!!!! During Covid we took him to another groomer a couple of times. But I’m so glad we were able to get him in this week with groomer. I must say I was a nervous wreck leaving him alone at the other place. But with them , no worries at all!!!! His coat was nice and shiny. His nails were trimmed down really good. Even his paw pads were nice and soft. Rocky had an awesome spa day. Thanks to the wonderful staff for taking care of my sonshine!!!

Fantastic experience: My dog is very anxious around new people and places. I let them know before my first appointment and they were so helpful! All of the reception staff, the vet techs, and the doctor were all very conscientious and patient with my dog, and made it a wonderful experience.

Negative experience: I have to revise my 5 star view. I was impressed that the vet worked to find a solution within our price range when we took our 17 year old cat in for not eating and being lethargic. We took her on Friday, decided with the doctor's help that the lab work was more important than medication to soothe her nausea and fluids for dehydration. The doctor emailed Saturday to suggest meds for a thyroid problem - we picked up the meds but she still wasn't eating so we can't give them to her. She passed Monday morning, laying in our bathtub. I can only wonder if our $400 could have been better spent making her comfortable that last weekend rather than running tests and offering treatments she wouldn't live to see. I was happy the vet worked with us on a price solution but in hindsight I feel like we got fleeced and the only ones who be benefited from that visit was Hyde Park Animal Hospital Quick service, caring staff and the vet worked with us to find a care solution within our price range.

Negative experience: DON'T GO HERE!!! They charged an enormous emergency appointment fee and still they were more than willing to let cat die! They are non caring and have an unprofessional attitude. HOWEVER, because of them I found the best vet in Chicago...Dr. Jewell & his staff at Pershing Animal Hospital. I suggest going there instead, he's great for cats and dogs!

Fantastic experience: This review is about the rehab services and the rehab tech, Kimmie. Kimmie is the BEST. She is extremely knowledgeable and extremely caring. She always goes the extra mile for your pet. And she is a veterinary nurse as well, so she can give advice on other matters and really has a comprehensive understanding of your pet's needs. We have had three dogs who needed rehab services - water treadmill therapy, work on the "obstacle course," and laser -- and she significantly improved the life of all three. And when our young dog was ready to end rehab work (the other two were aged...), she told us so -- he "graduated" :) Thank you, Kimmie, for everything!

Fantastic experience: You can really tell that the staff here genuinely cares for animals. Every person that I came in contact with was very friendly and patient and extremely gentle with my pet. I really appreciate all of the phone calls I received to provide updates on my pet's procedure. It really helped put me at ease, especially after having a terrible experience at another clinic. I would highly recommend this facility

Fantastic experience: They took very good care of our piggies. Getting an appointment was easy. You paid a deposit prior and they come to the door to get your animal. The doctor calls you after his exam and they bring you your animals after. They are truly practicing social distancing and adhering to all safety standards.

Fantastic experience: I asked Dr. Williams to perform an ultrasound on my chinchilla recently, and he was completely honest about the inconclusive results. So honest that he didn't think it was fair to charge for the work. The good news is that he was able to rule out some potential issues with what he was able to see. I genuinely appreciate Dr. William's time and attention, and would recommend him to others.
